I can really imagine the executives and the people monitoring the forums rubbing their hands, being like “oh yeah, our little SAB-stick really distracted them from our Legendaries kitten-up.” lol.
I am really really sad. And there isn’t even a real april fools joke this year, no being turned into a puppet, or stickman, or running around with your arms stretched out like a pilot…
Im not really surprised by that tbh, and Im really looking forward to how long it will take until this thread is burried, dead and forgotten by players and mods alike. :/

Legendary weapons

Nonoka.7028

To be honest, this really makes me sad.
First of all, a short bow. Really. Shortbow is used by Thief and Ranger. Two leather armor classes. As opposed to a Gs, which would be used by Warriors, Necro Elite, Ranger, Mesmer, Guardian. But okay, what’s done is done.
BUT – honestly, if you have only six people responsible for the legendary weapons, a feature that was promised with the expansion, a feature a lot of people were looking for, and those people can’t, for whatever reason, finish these things, you could either offer them help by for example the designer team that made, since July 2013, a whopping 30 (!!!) weapon sets with, safe for an exception, the winter’s weapons, which were only 10, and the bloody prince’s weapons, which were only 6, but, for simplicities sake, 16 weapons each. That is 480 (!!!) skins. Fourhundredeighty. Just think about that, 480 skins. And those poor kittens have problems with designing like what, 10 more? I mean sure, you need footfall and auras, and whatnot, but that really shouldn’t be a problem. Honestly, compare the 480 skins to the 3 skins they made in about the same time. You really have some productive people making the BL Weapon skins. And crafting a legendary always follows the same pattern. Get your prec, get your gifts of might and magic, another random gift that fits the theme of the weapon to some extent, bam, done. The blueprint is there. It really only comes down to the design. And we know that the design for, for example, Nevermore, has been out for ages.
So the problem seems to be the legendary journey. Okay, I can see that that could be some trouble, but still, if you told me that you need like 50 point all over tyria that fit a new Legendary weapon that is Ice themed, I could get that done in a month tops. Yaddayadda programming and bam, its done.
And if it takes longer, well, give the people the time they need, but add the new precs to the loot tables in the HoT maps, make them tradeable, until a new journey is finished, then add the journey, everybody is happy. I mean sure, not everybode, but at least a lot of people.
And saying that “legendaries are for only a small percentage of people” – I do not have a legendary, and ive been playing since launch, but I still like them, I love to look at them in the preview, thinking to myself, “oh yeah, one day I will get myself that kitten Flameseeker Prophecies”. It’s just a think of perspective.
I really don’t like the fact that the legendaries are postponed even longer – if they ever get released, that is – and I am really mad that they still didn’t really deliver the things they promised us back in 2013.

around 3700 hours of gameplay > 0 precursor…

if i play 3 hours a day EVERY day of the year that would be 3,5 years of gameplay EVERYDAY! > 0 precursor

So yeah ok, i dont mind it but saying we all have the exact same chance on RNG?
right..

…Do you people even understand the concept of chance? Of “random” things? Honestly. It gets really really tiring.

“Anyone who considers arithmetical methods of producing random digits is, of course, in a state of sin.”

But still, the thing is there really is NO safe way to to compare just playtime. The content you participate in makes a real big difference. Like I said before, spending 3k hours, just whipping out your credit card every other day, buying hundreds and thousands of exos after the gem to gold exchange, you WILL get a lot more precursors and even other rare items than any normal player doing just WvW or plain old “I complete been there, done that on /15 chars”, or, and those people also exist, those who roleplay in the capital cities like 70% of their time in the game. If I spend 100 hours chestfarming in the silverwaster, I will get loads more stuff from there than going for a 100 hours EotM train – because played time is no factor for things. In a chestfarm, I get like what, 20-30 guaranteed champ bags + every now and then stuff like carapace boot chests, obsi shards, and sometimes an essence of time from all the sand I get.
When I walk through the EotM with a zerg, I can get nowhere near this many champ bags from there as I can with a CF. And now, In the same, just let me make up some numbers here, you got say 1000k bags from chestfarming, and maybe 300 bags from eotm. which isn’t very little, let’s be honest, but 1000k times a small chance of getting a prec is a lot better than 300 times a small of chance of getting a prec.
And it is alright for you to questions things as people SEEMINGLY have better luck than you, but then you still have no idea, not the lightest idea, of how and how effective they spend their time in the game. And hell, if you have a guildie that keeps pinging his new prec from the MF, don’t automatically beliefe them. Nothing’s easier than either whipping out a credit card to get it, or to just copy the chat code of the item in question from the wiki.

No offense, but I will never believe that for a second. Ive played a lot for over 3 years in every gamemode and I have never once gotten a single precursor drop from any source. At the same time I have known people who have been able to forge dozens literally dozens some over 100 precursors, one person got a precursor their first week. Meanwhile I am still at 0 because of RNG in over 3 years, so you will excuse me for not believing you.[/quote]

…they were able to forge dozens, some OVER 100 precursors.
Well, you say you play a lot. Do you throw stuff into the mystic forge non stop, like people that got dozens, HUNDREDS of precursors, are you trolling, HUNDREDS?! You do not get hundreds of prec by, as you said, playing every game mode, you get that by stuffing down rares and exos worth MINES FULL OF GOLD PIECES down the mystic forge. Seriously.
And a friend of you got a prec in their first week of playing, well boo hoo, that is something that happens.
Did you also say, playing Ludo/Aggrevation as kid, that you did not beliefe that one of your siblings got a six before you did? Did you then also say “No, I don’t believe we have had the same chance, I have heard of people rolling hundreds of sixes with their dice before I did, this can’t be fair!”
Honestly. I just comes down to luck, and not personal luck, just statistical “Maybe you get it, maybe you don’t” luck. Luck doesn’t mean, “Everyone get’s one prec after 1k hours, then the next one after 2k hours” etc. etc, no, luck in this case is “Oh, this mob/event/chest/whatever dropped something for you, well, maybe it will be a prec, unlikely but possible, or maybe it will be some junk, which is very likely, but not the only thing possible, let’s run our super complicated algorithm to sort this out.”

Well, let’s just accept for a minute that somebody really got 4 precs in around 1k hours of gameplay. Quite lucky, not impossible. I have three precs with around 3k hours of gameplay. One in the first 500, the other two around the 2700 and 2800 hour mark – I however did not get a single RNG Ascended Gear Box in all that time. – Just saying.
But what if you and your friend both play on, until you both are at 10k hours.
You do not get another precursor until 6k hours, while your friend gets one at 1,5k hours – but then, you get one new precursor constantly every 1000k hours, while your friend gets nothing from 1,5k to 10k hours – now who would be the one with the lucky, and who’d be the one with the cursed account?

See, there always IS a chance of getting a prec – it’s just utterly small.
Throw a dice 10 times. The chance that you get a 6 on every roll is slim – but it can happen. Now imagine the same with 100 d20. There still is a chance of you getting 100 20s in a row – extremely slim, but not impossible.
So in the end, whether it is a perfect randomnes, or a system meant to at least simulate randomnes by complicated algorithms – it just comes down to personal luck.

And let’s not forget that my example with the 10k hours was just about you two playing just PvE. Loot from enemies and events. But as someone above said, you still have to factor in the things a person does in the time he spends in the game. A person constantly farming silverwastes will have a whole lot more drops than somebody doing 100% world exploration on every character over and over. Because it’s just way more efficient. You also don’t get nearly as much stuff playing WvW or PvP.
And of course, there’s the mystic forge. I can roll a new account, whip out my credit card, buy gems on end, convert them to gold, buy rares and exos from the tp and go wild with flushing down the things, hoping to get a prec every now and then – and I’d probably had more precurses if I do that stuff for 4k hours than any sane person playing the game in a “normal” way.
Just my thoughts on the topic.

…I don’t give a crap about the three tiered mastery system for the precursor hunt to be honest. Not because I don’t like the idea – I love it. If you add in the fact that Legendaries won’t be tradeable, the Legendaries will be more Legendary than they are now.

But I’ve read about the argument that “You won’t be able to do the three tiered Achievements in a few weeks, so don’t worry about now having access to all legendaries on day one.”
But, and I’m just making an example here, since we don’t know about the Mastery etc, let’s say we will be able to do Staff, Greatsword, and Longbow.
And the Collection for one Precursor takes, say, one month to do. So, after one Month, you can have either a Staff, a Greatsword, or a Longbow.
But maybe you play an Engineer that doesn’t have access to one of those – you wait another 2 Months until the day they release the Legendary Rifle. So now, you’ll have to work for one more month – that’s three months since release until you are done with your Precursor.

It’s just… I don’t know… poor that they don’t have all the legendaries ready the day they want to release HoT.
In my eyes HoT seems more and more rushed…

Honestly, if you look at the amount of armor and weapon pieces they added via Gemstore or Black Lion Tickets (which is indirectly tied to the gemstore), adding 19 (or say 16, since Underwater content doesn’t seem to be a thing anymore) unique skins doesn’t seem like that much of a problem.
Shadow Weapons, Crimson Lion, Wintersday, Mordrem, Pact Fleet, Tempest, Chaos, Ley Line, Phoenix, Tormented, Zodiac. That’s 11 Sets with 19 weapons each in just a few months. So 16 new weapons can’t be that much of a hassle. Add in the unique skins from the tp (caithes dagger, faren’s rapier, etc.) and you have a whole bunch of weapons right there. Add some more fancy glow and footfall (or not, seeing as the flameseeker doesn’t have one) and boom. Over 200 potential candidates for legendary weapons. And yet, they are not able to add in all of the Legendaries at once? There’s something fishy.

I know you’re all dying for more information on new legendary weapons, but we’d like to delve into them more with a dedicated blog post in the future. For now, I’ll say that we’ve been working kitten new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates.

This game is being rushed out the door so hard lol.

Probs why they didn’t have time to develop dungeons.

…exactly my thoughts. They’ll shove out the door what they got now, say “Hey, look at all the awesome stuff we have here”, and make it look like it’s sooo much awesome content, when in reality, it’s a bit of stuff that’s been made in the past couple of months, and some more stuff added later, whenever they got something done again, at least something that is not part of the gemstore.

…So does this mean that not ALL of the new Legendaries will be available the day Heart of Thorns hits store shelves, like maybe we’ll have access to Sword, Greatsword, and Bow, and then, a week or two later, we get Rifle and Hammer and Dagger, and then, another two weeks later they add in Staff and Pistol and Torch, and so on,

or that we get the complete 19 new Legendaries plus Precursors on day One of HoT, with new Legendaries of each weapon added in later?

There is one thing that struck me as odd though – while reading the german blog post (I couldn’t get a look at the english one yet), it said something along the lines of “We are working kitten the new Legendaries, and we’ll be happy to show SOME of them to you in Heart of Thorns, WITH THE REST BEING ADDED IN FUTURE UPDATES” – was this just a weird translation issue, or are you guys overlooking this very vital aspect, the fact that HoT might not include all the new Legendaries at release?
One can argue “Oh, you won’t be able to do the whole Precursor Hunt in one week anyways”, but still, you will have to wait longer for a certain legendary in the long run.
Any ideas?

Nonoka.7028

…we do from time to time practice actual cutting when we practice Iaido. We have special rolls made from a certain type of grass or bamboo, and cutting through one of these rolls is basically the same as cutting through a lower arm, flesh and bones, and let me tell you: that kitten is NOT easy. With enough practice you surely can cut through them, and even multiple of those, but I really really doubt that you would be able to cut through a whole torso plus armor in one swing. That just doesn’t happen.
The thing is, japanese swords are just very very mysticised, and most things you hear simpy aren’t true. With a katana, you try to aim for parts of the armor that aren’t as protected as others – the parts where armor pieces were linked, armpits, wrists, knee… Those were the places to wreck damage. Or you just stab the person, but no blade will be able to survive stabbing through hundreds of armors and getting stuck in bones without breaking the tip off

inb4 the tanto and iaito get released in the gemstore.

I knew I liked you. People calling that a katana had my teeth itching.

You’re right about the tanto/wakizashi thing, but calling the longer one a Iaito makes MY teeth itch.
An iaito is a sword for training Iaido with a blunt blade usually made out of a alluminium-cink alloy, which is lighter and thus easier to use, and of course cheaper, but it tries to look and feel as closely to a real katana as possible – the same size of blade and handle, the same way the handle is made, possibly some visual cues like the hamon on the “blade”, in order to get the Iaidoka ready for the shinken, the sharp sword.
You usually start Iaido by practicing with a Bokken, the wooden sword, also formed like a real katana, and then, once you feel ready, you get a Iaito with a scabbard (saya) in order to train the movements of a real blade, especially the movement of putting the sword back into the scabbard without putting the enemy under pressure after a fight.
So a Iaito is just the fancy word for “Training Sword”, and whoever taught you that this is actually the real word for a shorter katana, tell him to kitten off.
All this coming from a 2nd Dan Iaidoka from Germany.

The more you know.

…but farming Imps for days and potentially getting nothing is equivalent to farming Tequatl for Tequatls Hoard for days and potentially getting nothing -
oh wait, it isn’t. Because I can farm those Imps 24/7 if I want to, and I will get my IDS one day, maybe not with perfect stats, but I’ll get it. And I’ll also get a lot of other stuff I can turn into a bit of money on the way.
Teq is different – you can do him what, 6 times a day with his 4 hour cooldown? And the stuff you get usually consists of greens and blues with the occasional rare thrown next to the spoon or rune of the sunless for good measure.

Guaranteeing my odds is a great way, no questions asked, the way the dungeon rewards work is fantastic – everybody can have a piece of the cake – but they completely abandoned the concept with everything they released afterwards, and even when you would think they got back on track with the Crests is the Silverwastes, they ruined it with RNG for Coat Boxes in the Vinewrath fight. Just lovely.

Do you think Anet is hiding something big

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Nonoka.7028

Honestly, I’m slowly losing interest in this whole thing again. I love playing the game, I really do, I’m having loads of fun, but the expansion is less and less gripping every day.

At first, my hype was huge, being raised on the Guild Wars 1 expansions – big continents full of new stuff to explore, two new classes, new skills for all my existing characters, new armor, weapons, and enemies – those were really big things.
So when I heard of Heart of Thorns, the hype was real.
But anet keeps hiding in the shadows. We’ve heard some things – 3 of the Revenant Weapons and two of it’s Legends, which is great, and I’m really looking forward to it – but in the same breath they tell us that they aren’t even done with the traitlines yet.
This xpac seems like it’s not even closed to finished, at least not in my eyes, maybe they have a lot of stuff done already, maybe even enough to push out a release, but let’s be honest here: Will this be sufficient? Whenever there’s an interview, they avoid the topic of map size, and try to parry the questions with “oh, the maps are so densly filled with events!” – is that because they have a lot of events done that they can simply copy paste onto the maps (like they did with silverwastes – which I really like, but I cannot imagine an xpac consisting of this design), so the small 2 or 3 maps that are there will take a bit more time to get through? Even if there are multiple layers, are they all worth playing?

I am going to get Heart of Thorns when it comes out, no question there. But I don’t think I will look forward to it as much as I did when it was first anounced, because the way I see it, anet is stumbling around in the dark, trying to get the bit of stuff they have ready out as slowly as possible, to have more time finishing the definitely unfinished xpac they anounced out of sheer desparation.

Statistics on obtaining gear

Posted by: Nonoka.7028

Nonoka.7028

So, I need some help here:

I am a huge fan of statistics, so I would love to make one about the different Weapon SETS in the game as a start – The sets that were obtainable in the Vanilla Game (for example Legendaries and Precursors, Cultural Weapons, standard crafted weapons like Iron, etc.), and all of that Divided into different categories: Crafted, Karma, Mystic Forge, Loot, etc.

And all of that compared to how many new weapon sets have found their way into the game – like the halloween skins (that Bat-Greatsword and the Chainsaw, Wintersday), again, the way these can be obtained (leisure grind with some rng like the Ambrite ones, longer grind like the ascended, pure RNG like Sunless and Fractal), and, and this is in my eyes the most important part, the amount of weapons added via Black Lion Weapon Specialist, and thus, black lion chests, and that compared to one another.

I’ll need a few days to do all of this stuff, checking multiple sources, ingame and on the internet, etc etc. I just wanted to know if there was actually any interest on this topic, or if I can take a nice weekend off because somebody already did this stuff.

I actually really like the idea of the “PvP”-Elements. You would of course need auto-balance, as probably everybody would want to play as the evil guys at first, but it would work. Have teams of maybe 20-40 players fighting over the smaller parts of the map, along with some npcs, and once this, let’s call it “war-event-chain” is done, the map returns to normal for the next 5 hours, giving people time to get their map completion and have the outcome of the battle influence the way the map looks until it’s “cleansed” again by players or npcs.
This would work for so many maps, all those with the sons of svanir, fire legion, nightmare court, whatever. I can even imagine going as far as to give players more or less generic looks for the event, just soldiers and charr.

…No but honestly, am I the only one who’s tired of those things? Maces can be beautiful weapons but they all look like kitten in gw2, I don’t get it

So, when I heard about the new weaponset coming out, I was as always waiting to see the mace. And, once again, they kittened it up good.
Maces are not the size of basketballs! They just aren’t. The only mace skin in the game that resembles a real mace is the Krytan one. All the others are like metal bowlingballs made for giants put on a stick. Most of them look bigger than the hammers, I just don’t get it. You can make really beautiful and well designed maces that aren’t the size of a watermelon, just look at the designs in Skyrim for example.

So my gf and I were exploring bloodtide Coast and Doing the “Vermin-Heart”. There we met some naked people farming candycornelementals with maize balm, I have Sometimes heard of it, but never seen it, and Im playing since Beta.

Now, we did hit a few of the candycorns and we did pick up the tot-bags, and opened them. My gf started about two or three weeks ago with gw2, and she was surprised that there were holiday related items. She opened the bags happily, and to my surprise, she did get Oontz (or whatever its called) accesory, which gives You the black Aura (poly Luminescent undulating refractor Black). Being used to ping rare drops to teammates from us playing gw1 a few weeks ago together with our friends, she basically automatically pinged her Oontz necklace of the cat. And then, the kittenstorm started, a lot of curse words that would be censored to ‘Kitten’ in the forum were written on the map Chat and whispered to her, but Hey , who cares. I dropped two precursors and one preserved bee queen, pinged them, and got mostly gz messages, and some kitten you s. However, the Thing is, the guy that threw the maize balm keeps whispering and writing to her that "Its our rule that ten percent of all drops go to me, because I bought the balm, but we were basically just passing by, and she got Lucky.
My Question now Is not “what can we do” , the reports are sent and blocks are given and screenshots kept for Future reference, but rather: what do You guys think about people like this, and his behaviour?

Finally got it!

I think I know why you don’t see many Mjölnirs around.
Because they are expensive as kitten,
greatswords are much more common than hammers
and Mjölnir looks like utter kitten in my opinion, and most of my guildies and friends.
I’m gonna get the Juggernaut

Edit: forgot to congratulate you

So I was walking around doing map completion, when I stumble upon this here.

And I cannot open it and collect my reward. How mean is this, teasing us with ages old pirate treasures that we cannot even open?

weapon skins you want from HoT

I think HoT is a great opportunity for bringing the tribal armor back into the game, seeing as it is already verified by the devs that it will make a comeback.
I would love more nature themed armors, things made out of wood and bark, bones, fur.
As for weapons, I don’t have too many Ideas… the Bloodstone Weapon Set Idea sounds good, I’m thinking about really simple designs… pointy stones with a bit of leather and wood to get a grip and cut the enemies flesh open.
But concerning other weapons… dunno.

We need Elite zones like the Fissure of Woe

There were also Dungeons in the original Guild Wars.
They are kinda similar to the Dungeons in GW2, without the multiple paths.
FoW and UW were different though – they were actual zones.
So the Idea would be to do something different with the challenging content this time – instead of following the same formula as the dungeons are (relatively big structures with only a few paths that can be followed, predetermined by the path you choose), make a big zone with different “Quests”, and once you are done with all of them, you get to fight the boss and claim your really awesome prices.
So more like a hardmore map completion. And less like the dungeons.
And to the guy “Fow was easy” – why do you even need to write this down, without giving any input on the actual topic?

just tell us the weapon list already

Even more interesting for me is the weapon that the specialisation for the revenant will get.
Also, I guess we would need at least one more offhand weapon for the rev, every other class has got more than one offhand choice. Torch? Focus? Shield? Dagger, since there is no heavy armor class with daggers (though theres also no caster class with bows so that argument doesnt really count)

Suggestion: merge Spear and Staff skins

Yes, please, merge the staff pool with Tridents and Spears, but not vice versa
