I agree casters still suck. Hasn’t blu been doing this for over a year and hasn’t improved yet. I think we need someone else to step up. A pvper who can actually tell what is going and doesn’t just change the camera from mid team fight to a free back cap just because. I usually mute the sound after a few mins of any caster match.
Create team charters with team rankings and only allow full teams in. Make solo queue with solo rankings and have an unranked queue where fewer than full teams can join.
I don’t like excluding pugs from team queue. Not enough population either for that full team queue to pop much.
even in wow they did step back and said 3v3 will be the competive mode they balancing for cause 5v5 is just to big and to hard to form a team for – and arena in wow was a big success for an MMO game (years ago atleast^^)
and now you guyz should trie this new TDM map 3v3 – its most fun i ever had in this game and i rly hope this will make it to an competive mode here in gw2

I talk about this with friends everytime i play pvp. It would be rly fun and definitely worth a try. It seems the community wants it too. Add a queue system and ticket system for respawns. would be epic!
I don’t play in a regular team but pug with whoever is online from my tiny guild. sometimes we have 5 but mostly its 2 or 3. An arena mode for 2/3 player teams would be great (i think 3 vs 3 would be most fun in terms of gameplay).
Another thing. New arena style map.
First really different map, it works fine…it should be competitive with a ranked que (even if no leaderboards are put in atm). Make it 2 and 3 player team ques. Bam solved the issue for players with only 2-3 people teams who want to be competitive. It is arena so, its all centered around team fights, you can have a lot more versatile builds…careful of 5v5 it will become AE spam fest…but suppose you could have that too.
i would absolutely love 3 vs 3 or 2 vs 2 arena. That wasnt some custom arena locked thing. That map with a queue and ticket system (for respawns) could be epic.
team kills in the new courtyard map are worth 25 points for the team.
perhaps we can apply that to the existing conquest.also award more points for kills made in capture points
25 points – team kills
30 points – team kills in own points
40 points – team kills in neutral points
50 points – team kills in enemy pointssuddenly, there is a big incentive to take down defensive bunkers now, since killing a bunker on their turf would be equivalent to holding a capture point for 17 seconds.
I like this idea. Increasing points for kill;s is a simple idea anet could implement. Would help with the current stale bunker heavy meta.
I’m also bored with the same game mode.

I prefer the balance post patch. I see a lot more variation in team comps. Although guardian/thieves/warriors are still king. Its nice seeing mesmer and ele back.
This was always a pretty stupid reason to limit armor. People tell each other apart by skills and unit frames — and cast bars someday. It will always work that way.

Not trolling but maybe I didn’t think things through clearly. I get your point. But I also think it would be a shame if newbies come to the pvp and just get demoralised by being trashed 500-0 or by practicing and then being told that sorry they didnt get a place because they weren’t “known”.
In short, this tournament SHOULD cater to the casuals and newbies imo. It is what the game needs
I agree with this. And who is to say someone is known or not? I doubt he knows Karmy and his SW guildies, or June guild, or UC, or many, many others who definitely have a decent chance of beating everyone, including “known” teams.
Also, I believe that Anet guys would organise this much, much better. At least they are not teenagers and have way more experience with this. I hope they will get inspired and host the next one, properly.
But I still have hope that this one will work out. Let’s see if it will be what it was advertised to be or it will be some type of yet another boring invitational with same teams as always.
Disagree, it can be organised well by the community especially with Blu who is really good. So I dont think anything needs to change in that respect.
But I had kind of hoped this tournament would bring new players into pvp from pve and wvw. I would love if this was the aim of the tournament. But if they aim is simply to reward those most hardcore players then fine. That is cool too, just a missed opportunity from my point of view.
The best 2/3 players I have ever play with or against are all people who rarely PvP but spend most of their time in WvW or PvE. And I have played with or against everyone of any renown in PvP. The fact is PvE and WvW have a way bigger player base so it is no surprise that the absolute best/most talented guys come from these game modes. The problem is that the barrier to entry for them is huge and they tend to love rewards. If this tournament could bring these people, and others who aren’t as talented, into spvp (finally) then we could really see esports get going.
First of all, I have no idea who you are, and im certain I have never lost to you or your “renown” friends. Secondly the reason Pvers dont play PvP is because they are inclined to continue clicking their skills. As far as WvW, there is little to no skill required in zergs and roamers are still not near the lvl of pvpers. WvWers rely on broken stats and gear, and are quite inferior to PvP. Even guilds like Apex, which was orignally PvP only has transitioned to WvW because they were not top tier pvpers. However in WvW they are very good.. You WvWers and PvErs will soon learn your place in the skill heirachy.
-Backpacknot gonna say I’m disagreeing but I’m disagreeing. just look at caed and toker, tons of wvw thieves can beat them 1v1 8+/10 times.
Caed and Toker play viable PvP builds and wud wreck anyone that matches spec. And if for some reason they need too, they could adapt to the shadow arts handicap, but for now that is useless top tier pvp… Cruuk was probably the best regen thief that played this game and I guarantee he would dominate any WvW thief at the game of cat and mouse…. and if stats were balanced in wvw no thief would run regen if they planed on killing something other than a misquito
Your confidence in PvP players is hilarious. PvP is decided by running to empty points. Primarily that is what wins. Combat takes a huge back seat to this “pro” tactic. In WvW at least combat is the primary factor in success or failure. The people there simply fight and have practice in fighting which gives them the edge (in many cases) over player vs pointers in spvp.
I say it again, I have played against or with anyone who is anyone in spvp. Either in solo q or a team q. And yet the best people I have fought have been in WvW. That is an unpopular opinion on the spvp forum. I get that. But maybe it is time to wind the egos in a bit. PvP players are big fish in small ponds. There are better players in WvW. And this isn’t from a WvW player. This is from an almost exclusive pvp player who has played enough to grind multiple accounts up to the very top of leaderboards multiple times.
You buy multiple alts because you arent good enough to actually play consistently and be at the top of the leaderboards it sounds like.
The primary factor for success in WvW is who has the most coverage and who can bang down doors the fastest.
To say that combat isn’t the primary factor in who wins a PvP match is absurd.
The primary factor in who wins a PvP match is rotations not combat. You can win every team fight and still lose to a team with better rotations.
i was thinking a slightly nerfed version of perplexity would of been a good addition to the meta. But they do need another something to boost their dps as i feel it may be too low post patch.
Maybe more torment, a condition introduced for the necro but used to greater effect by warrior. Or they could revert to a pre dhumfire necro (kinda wish they would start again from pre dhumfire on all classes).
This gonna be a massive nerf. Hopefully lyssa nerf will make up for it but im doubtful. The removal of perplexity runes from the patch also doesn’t help as i imagined they thought the rune set would offset the loss of dhumfire. Its a shame lord rosicky will have to reroll to get no 1 again :P
Necros aren’t strong now and haven’t been since last summer. So all those people saying they deserve it are clearly don’t have any knowledge of the current meta.
yeah. i’m really glad they nerfed the most annoying builds in the game. Took a while to happen but hopefully pvp will be more enjoyable now. Looking forward to the patch now.
The problem is that the developers think warriors are fine, but they are not. I don’t want to get into an argument about it here. However, every profession needs to bring a strength and a weakness to a team, and it needs to be designed such that stacking that profession (i.e. 2x, 3x, etc) far increases the weakness to that team than it does the strengths. This is not the case with warriors.
I’m going to be blunt: The fact that Karl, or Ray, or whomever it was during Ready-Up, says that warriors are right where they want them to be shows that he does not really understand balance, and does not belong on the balance team. PEBKAC
Thieves are the only burst class that works in the meta, and the only one that can reliably (albeit it’s challenging) drop a HS warrior. This leaves Mesmers and elementalists out of the picture entirely.
Decap engies – well, that’s a truly cancerous build. It’s absolutely gutted solo queue. The fact no one has talked about hotfixing that speaks volumes regarding the development team.
could not agree with you more. The devs are so out of touch. I dont think they are even aware of the decap engie and how awful it is to play against.
This reminds of when they thought a bugfix to sigil of paralyzation would change the meta. Warriors didn’t even use it. they are so out of touch is laughable.

You must not play PvP much as Pistol whip thieves are the easiest type of thieves to kill. Pistol whip was useless until recently. Now it got fixed. There are many more valid and critical things to complain about balance in this game than pistol whip.
While you are right PW are easier to kill than the previous S/D meta build, the damage and cc they do is greatly increased. They are still very prevalent in high ranked team queue games and the build just crushes necros, rangers, ele and mesmer. I’d like to know what u think is a more valid and critical thing tocomplain about is. I think the build that cuts 2 classes completely out of the meta is something to complain about.
Altho i do hate decap engies twice as much.
Also. to add to OP. I’m disappointed as well. same old Anet BS. Take 6 months to get balance patch out and still fail to address any of the problems.

I heard the new map was called cake walk. Each time must take all passive bs skills. then spam their auto attack. evading/AI is encouraged. The least amount of player input wins.
I dont understand why anet do this. The best part of pvp was the pick up and play aspect. you aint behind to anyone on gears or skills. why are you changing this? are we moving to a normal mmorpg progression system where newbies will get farmed by better geared veterans. i hope not.
Fwiw, Karl and Roy are good guys who do a good job for this game. It isn’t their fault the game has a PvE direction.

can any dev comment and tell us new game modes are coming on april 15th? Given the dev teams record on balance patches i dont think they will turn this meta around. Only new game modes that can create a fresh meta can save this game.
i approve of this message. I cant believe the lack of balance updates this game has had since release. It has been beyond lazy and has resulted in a terrible meta for nearly a year (since dhuumfire patch). There needs to be more accountability in the pvp team. I expect a big balance update and new game modes in the april 15th patch. it has been long enough.

I agree. they left healing signet alone for 9 months despite a daily thread about it. I have quit this game too, mainly due to playing cheese mode meta for 9 full months! At first i thought the devs understood their game and balance would come. Now i just think its incompetence.
Given that there is no sub, im sure ill be back for updates but i have 0 confidence in the devs making any good new modes and the lack of community wont help.

I agree that the shout caster’s aren’t very good and i normally mute any gw2 stream. They rarely say anything relevant or noteworthy and often don’t understand the meta.
Their direction and observation skills are lacking and i often find they move away from a key/fun fight to something that isn’t really relevant/exciting (such as a solo decap). They also tend to select the downed characters viewpoint rather than those trying to fight/stomp so you miss out on any good stomp plays etc.
Having said that i wouldn’t of made a video like this which was a overly rude. A polite constuctive video would made this point better.
Anyone and everyone who says diamond skin builds are anything but UP is a noob.

I have seen your posts in a few threads. I think you have missed the point entirely. You are right there aren’t any good DS builds atm. The point is it is a hard counter to one specific build type (condi). And is terrible design, i dont expect it to be good until ele gets more buffs in next patch (in 3 months!) and then ele could be ridic given their dmg atm. It just indicative of bad design where some classes cant counter it or even catch them as most cc is countered with it. And please stop with adapt BS. There is no power necro that can hold its own vs good teams and even using carrion, wurm and golem wont make a difference if the ele is paying attention and kills them quickly.
Warriors are both bunkers and dmg. No trade offs. id try them.
Warriors are still king. Not seen that heal being used much tho. Healing signet still best heal in game. The class is the definition of easy mode, there is no skill involved. Well done anet you failed to nerf any of the meta. (3x warrior, spirit ranger and guard). How hard was it to nerf healing signet/spirits.

Please try to run the build you complain about before you pass judgement on it.
Also if you think the build is easy even after that, I’m open to having some duels with you to help “confirm” your skill at spirit ranger.
The spirit ranger build is by far the easiest build to play at an effective level in top ranked matches. Please enlighten me on how it is skillful in anyway. Are you actively reacting to all the passive things going on?
I hate playing versus spirit rangers, every team fight we spend way too much energy on dealing with it. It has decided so many games where we down half of the other team only for the ranger to use his 1 sec cast time res. 1 sec!!!
Everyone in this thread is just scared that their only effective tpvp build is gonna get nerfed and rangers will be out of the meta. I for one wish they’d totally remake the ranger so that their passive builds weren’t the strongest and give the class a higher skill ceiling. Right now you just need to turn up.
The fact that there is counter-play for the Elite Spirit rez does not absolve it from being over budget.

Well, I know for one in team fight’s when my team see’s the Spirit go up just as we are about to take a target down, one of our guys will call the interrupt on the Spirit. Maybe people need to stop doing Solo Que (Only good for testing builds) and join Team Que and setup team’s.
Sick of reading these forum’s where most of this player base doesn’t even play at a competitive level, you all want to be Solo HERO’S.
As does my team yet we are often counter cc’ed or kill the pet anyways activating it. Every match versus a spirit ranger is always decided on who cc’s the other team before the nature spirit casts in each team fight. No other skill has the same impact.
Also maybe i should of specified but i’m talking about its effect in team queue but thanks for talking down to me.

Warbanner is a 2 sec cast time, is stationary and only resurrects on cast once.
Specifically spirit of nature.
This summon heals for 480hp per second, cures conditions and resurrects up to 3 allies. The condition cure and res are on a 30 sec cd with a 1.5s cast time and if it dies it automatically activates and has a 1 sec cast time (if traited).
In every team fight with a spirit ranger (most top ranked team run at least 1) it gives everyone a healing signet equivalent and has to be focused instantly a soon as it appears. It has a lot of health for a summon and has to be foccused by 2+ to get it down quickly. A good ranger will also save it for their teams first res knowing even if its focused it, will still res and turn around the fight.
No other res skill is this powerful and have been nerfed in regards to cds or cast time.
I’m really hoping the devs realize the problem this causes in every team fight and how frustrating it can be.
I suggest that it does not activate on death, reduce HP by 10% and make res cast 2 seconds.
So lets get the facts out there shall we:
- Some top rangers actually think this patch buffed them
- Having tested it against GOOD PEOPLE (like probably nobody else on this forum has) the elite res spirit is still auto-win team fights
- The fact they get launched is borderline irrelevant
- Spirits still body block you
- You still cant see anything ever
- Spirit ranger is still the most insanely powerful build AND the lamest by far as it is a build which LITERALLY stops you from playing the game by making you see nothing
- Bad people in this thread moan about something which was barely even nerfed
- Some people are saying this patch was actually a buff
- The spirits passive buffs still linger for basically the whole timeYeh. In fact the res spirit got buffed as now if it dies 10 seconds after spawning it then you get it back 50 seconds faster.
Spirit ranger still needs nerfing to make it bad so that people can actually get back to seeing anything which happens ever.

yeah its hard to see asuran animations through all AOE effects. I dont even bother trying to read their animations unless its 1 vs 1. I dont know why all characters aren’t the same size,

i watched the final match too and the whole game was decided by engie/spirit res. Two of the top teams couldn’t coordinate and kill each others spirits or knock engies out of their elixir res.
So i guess its not so easy….
A random map tournie and locked in builds would be great. You could even run sky hammer this way as people couldn’t use cheap builds.
The biggest problem here is that we play the same map for 3 days. If we cant have random maps can we at least have a much shorter turnaround. I would prefer something less than an hour.

i agree and to add why cant we have shorter map rotation or a random map selection for each tournament. better yet a 2 round randomized map tournament.
playing the same map over and over gets rather dull.
Team Team Team Team Team Team runs 5 or less most days on borderlands. It’s always fun running into other good small groups and battling. Normally we try to whisper them after and get some gvg going at the mill.
wvw gets blobbier every week and we wish anet would create disincentive for blobbers.
Still we love messing with blobs as most of the difficulty in wvw comes when adding more enemies.

Yeah I find this new map requires much more timing and positioning. I’d say it increased the skill cap.
