Incredibly frustrating…

1. Canach won’t give me his shield, have to restart the fight to get past the bug.

2. Updrafts not updrafting you in the air no matter how much you jump around/near them resulting in a restart.

3. Knocked out of the air by boulders that don’t come close to hitting you

completely wasted night.

The potential of guild hall

Hey man, Guild Outfits aren’t confirmed, but a light, medium and heavy set of new guild armor is part of the guild halls.

I believe they are going to expand guild missions, or at least eluded to the potential to use Guild Halls as part of the living story in the future.

I am hoping that the “challenging group content” they’ve talked about in HoT is similar to guild based dungeons, even if they aren’t dungeons in the traditional sense. I would love to see instanced, difficult, group content.

I would love to see alliances in this game.

Look, you need to add a new option for the expac. An expac only option. If you want to charge $49.99 for it, be my guest, I would suggest you give a lot more detail, a lot more quickly about the size of this expansion. It’s replay-ability, how many zones, dungeons, raid-type content? New fractals? From a content release, how does it compare to your last true expac, EOTN?

I can accept some inflation on pricing, but just justify it a bit more than you have. The Guild Hall announcement was amazing. It’s like you read my mind. Pretty much everything I wanted appears to be going into Guild Halls. But that’s been completely overshadowed by the pre-purchase boondoggle. And a boondoggle it is.

Here’s how to fix it: Have a new player and existing player option at the $49.99 price point.

New Player Option
-this is exactly what you can get now, base game, title, beta access and HoT expansion when it comes out.

Veteran Player Option
-Requires you to already own Guild Wars 2
-includes the Title, BETA Access and HoT expansion on release… AND…
-1 Character slot
-1 Bank Slot upgrade (for all that new loot you’re about to get)

That is all, carry on. Also, any player who already purchased option one and owned the game prior to doing so gets automatically upgraded to the Veteran Player option.

This is the norm for most expansions check it out, I just looked on the WoW site they charging the same price for their basic expansion so why is everyone complaining this is an industry standard price for an expansion, I don’t get it plus they charge a sub GuildWars has no sub?? Please come up with a good reason why the HoT expansion price point is so terrible????

If HoT has the same level of content that Warlords does, then it’s worth $50.00. Warlords had 8 new dungeons, 2 new raids. It had 7 new zones and a new pvp map. It also has customizable garrisons. It also came with a complete overhaul/update of all character models. As well as a new “perks.”

Again, if HoT can produce that kind of content, it’s worth the $50. Instead of being an insta-buy for me, I now need to wait and see if it’s worth it. Definitely not what I was expecting.

Here are a few things that would be great QoL or just plain cool changes:

1. Chat Wheel, Quick Chat Shortcuts or something similar: A quick way to communicate with allies, either a text key short cut (smite uses v-keys, so i can type v-b-1 and let me team know “enemies in left lane”, etc.). It doesn’t have to be exactly like that but a way to communicate the basics without typing everything out, so I can say “help home”, “leave mid”, “push far”, etc. without stopping to type it all out… that would be cool.

2. Favor, Glory, Mist Swag: Another Smite idea, if you don’t rage quit matches or get reported regularly, you can build up Favor or Glory (smite calls it goodwill) to 100% and functions as a multiplier against the rewards you get for competing in a game. So for GW2, if you’re a player who doesn’t get reported and doesn’t rage quit and can maintain a high glory%, you get a % boost applied to the silver, rank pts and reward track points you receive from the match. It caps at 100%, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it doubles your rewards… you’d have to find a nice balance for it.

3. An actual PVP based report option: This is so long over due it isn’t even funny. Reporting players for botting feels like a complete placebo atm. It adds to the general feeling that spvp isn’t a priority for ANET. Being able to report a player for afking, intentionally throwing the match, etc. is a pretty important component of the spvp experience… implementing this and #2 together seems like a nice carrot/stick combo.

4. Stored Builds: Another item that seems long over due and is self-explanatory. Hopefully with the implementation of the new trait system, this will be added… fingers crossed.

5. Skill Queuing option: Please add the option, via the menu to either have skill queuing or not have it for your account.

6. A Real practice mode: A place where players can queue against NPCs to learn the basic mechanics of conquest or stronghold before hopping into a match.

7. Separate Queues for Separate Game Modes: Another one that seems so obvious that I’m not sure what the counter argument is. Will it split the player-base? Probably, because not everyone wants to play the same game mode, and combining conquest, tdm and stronghold into one queue removes choice from players and will most likely do more harm than good long term, i think it will reduce the player base even more in the long run. I don’t know of any esports game that doesn’t allow players to choose between game modes they want to queue for… You may actually grow the overall spvp pop by having separate queues.

I think spvp d/p will run 6/0/0/6/6. Hard to Catch is really good now. I could see people running pain – hard to catch – don’t stop.

I think guarded’s condition (100% to proc) is too harsh to be too effective, but I could be wrong.

Being able to get pain response w/ executioner and sleight is nice esp for hide in shadow d/p thieves. That’s pretty good condi clear.

Deadly Arts is a nasty line now. You can run executioner and revealed training together. I believe they said the 5% damage boost to daggers is now base, so the new dagger training either gives an additional 5% damage vs poisoned targets or will end up procing poison.

Critical Strikes actually looks pretty weak now considering you have to go all in with it. The current grand master traits seem mostly useless as Invig Pro., Ricochet and Hidden Killer though I suppose wvw d/d will still run it.

Shadow Arts is looking a bit silly in the way they have it now. 50% damage reduction in stealth is now a minor trait, which still leaves you with a choice of cloaked in shadow, Shadow Rejuv or venomus. It is nice to see the might stacking in stealth removed from this line. I don’t know that it is nerfed as much as people think w/ the 50% reduction an automatic and shadow rejuv still select able at grandmaster.

Acrobatics are getting hit and deservedly so, imo. Feline grace now grants vigor on a Successful dodge and enhances the effects of vigor (120% recharge rate), they also have a 20% base vigor duration increase as part of the minor traits in this line. Hard to Catch looks really good now, breaks stun and refills your endurance vs porting you. Vigorus and Pained are both adept, so you have to choose one giving acro thief more susceptibility to condi. Don’t stop sounds cool as a grandmaster, you periodically evade projectiles while under the effects of swiftness. 10% damage minor is gone too, so both defensive trait lines don’t give damage bonuses anymore via fluid and hidden.

Trickery has the same minor traits though lead now has a steal reduction fact since you go all in after the update. Has an interesting buff for condi thieves in that you proc torment on interrupt. Can still run all the standard d/p trickery traits after the update. And haste is now a boon.

Anyway, they said repeatedly that this stuff wasn’t final, and stuff is all subject to change. Thanks to Dulfy for the screen caps and notes. I didn’t mention everything so be sure to check out the link above.

The Society of Well Appointed Gentlemen (SWAG) is proud to announce the first (and quite possibly last) Mr. Thief Multiverse contest. This contest is open to any and all entrants who fit the following criteria:

1. Must be a Thief

2. Must be Male

3. Must be cut of the finest cloth, a gentleman of resplendent taste and refined presence

4. Must carry oneself with the requisite style and grace becoming of a well appointed gentleman

5. Must daily devote oneself to achieving the highest pinnacle of debonair propriety and splendor

Rules:
All entrants must submit 1 picture and a single paragraph of no less than two sentences describing why the entrant is worthy of the title: Mr. Thief Multiverse.

Submissions will be open from March 20th, 2015 (10pm EST) through March 27th, 2015 (10pm EST). Limit to one entry per account, multiple entries from one account will be grounds for disqualification.

The honorable Mr. Eli Johnstone (pictured) will preside over the proceedings and pick three finalists once the submission period is closed. He will then choose the new Mr. Thief Universe and second and third place runners up. The winners will be posted in this thread.

The prizing is as follows:

With the recent announcement that Stronghold is going to be crammed into Unranked and Ranked queue, I thought maybe they should take it a step further… behold, the new spvp to do list:

1. Remove Compete, Play and Practice buttons from the Spvp UI. If the New Player experience has taught us anything, it’s that we’re all idiots and should have everything dumbed down to houseplant level difficulty. Instead, just one button called: Something.

By pressing the Something button you’re randomly selected to either a Ranked match (hopefully in progress), an Unranked match (likely stacked with a full team on the other side) or Hot Join where you’ll be yelled at for trying to do anything because, hey man, we’re just trying to finish our daily in here… Occasionally, the Something button should take you into a private server and make you invincible and give you the ANET tag… but just occasionally.

2. In fact, because the theme is to keep players guessing as to whether or not they’ll be fighting over points, focused solely on killing their opponents or doing all that Stronghold stuff, I feel like you need to use the new Map Selection UI on the Enter PvP Lobby button. Instead of just taking you to the Heart of the Mists, it should randomly take you either to Hotm or WvW or a randomn jumping puzzle or something. God knows I’m just excited to be here.

3. Add more stuff to Unranked Queue: Imagine Unranked Queue is your closet and every competitive game mode you’ve ever released is an article of clothing lying on your floor, and you’ve been asked to clean your room. What do you do? Stuff everything in the closet. I want it ALL in unranked queue: Snowball Arena, Southsun Survival, Dragon Ball Arena, Winter Wonderland Jumping Puzzle, That one game where you throw barrels and stuff, etc. When I go into the spvp menu, my desire for choice is completely gone. Get creative boys!

4. Randomize Traits and Classes: Seriously, if I don’t care what game mode I’m playing, why should I care what class and build I’m playing. Surprise me! I don’t even want to see the Character selection screen just take me straight to my series of Wheel of Fortune buttons so I can get playing something I want to play (But don’t know what it is yet).

Thanks for reading! Looking forward to something, I don’t know what because I have no desire for anything specific, but I know I’m excited about something randomly happening in the future!

Post HoT launch, this game will have 3x sPvP game modes: Conquest, Team Death Match (TDM) and Stronghold.

Using some loose generalization, I’ve split the player base into the following groupings (once Stronghold is in the game):

1. Player A - Only wants to play Conquest
2. Player B - Only TDM
3. Player C - Only Stronghold
4. Player D - Some Conquest, Some TDM
5. Player E - Some Conquest, Some Stronghold
6. Player F - Some TDM, Some Stronghold
7. Player G - All three game modes

That’s probably where you’d stop. These are general categories: you might have someone in conquest who on rare occasions dabbles in Stronghold, someone who plays all 3 might cheat toward TDM or Conquest while another person in the Player G group might do two Stronghold maps for every TDM and Conquest map. The point is, it doesn’t matter…

What matters is that: Apparently, all 7 of those player types are in the vast minority and most of us fall into this group:

Player H - Doesn’t Care

After all, why would you assume that a disparate group of players with different opinions and preferences would actually want to have a choice in what type of game mode they play?

Take me for example, anytime I’m given a choice between fixed alternatives, I do what all of us do, I pull out some dice and let lady luck have a go… I wanted a Hamburger, but the dice say Tofu… oh well.

It’s not like there have been many posts and threads asking for a separate queue for 2v2 TDM or the removal of terrible approximations of conquest maps like Skyhammer.

If, as a company, you’re presupposing that your sPvP player population is static, then why even bother with a new game type?

If, as a company, you don’t have the infrastructure to support a separate queue for Stronghold, then frankly, you aren’t ready to release it.

I cannot fathom a legitimate reason for dumping Stronghold into the conquest queue… then again, I couldn’t for Courtyard (TDM), and you did that… my expectations are pretty low at this point.

I sometimes wonder if we are part of an experiment in sadism where ANET is testing to see how much abuse their PvP population will tolerate…

I play less now that TDM is in my conquest rotation, and I’ll play even less when Stronghold becomes part of it. If I want to queue for conquest, that’s ALL I want to queue for. If I want to play Stronghold, I don’t want to take a 3/8 chance just to be able to vote on the Stronghold map followed by a weighted roll dependent on the preferences of the 9 other people in the queue with me.

The decision to put Stronghold in the conquest rotation is so devoid of common sense, It’s astounding.

Just remove shadow’s rejuvenation and prismatic understanding traits.

Easy fix.

If this new game mode is dumped into the regular queue, which will be a colossal mistake, it may not matter. But if they execute right and Stronghold is it’s own queue, I have a feeling SA Thieves and PU mesmers will become two of the most hated builds in this game… it’d be good actually, because both need to be nerfed outside of conquest.

With the Heart of Thorns expansion announced and the first deep-dive previewed the new Mastery feature, there has been a great deal of discussion around the term: Grind.

GW2 players have discussed Grind before (Legendary Weapons, Ascended Weapons, Crafting to 500, etc.), and now Masteries can be added to the list.

I know this is the Internetz and people love to argue on the internet, but as you discuss Grind, understand that it isn’t math. It’s opinion.

2+2=4, that’s math (though if you’re like this guy you’ll argue that it isn’t always 4, w/e). Grind is a term and subject to opinion. So while you can say to someone that they’re crazy to say something is or isn’t Grind, that’s your opinion and not all that nice to say, you can’t say they’re wrong if they believe something is a Grind just because you don’t.

Try not to forget that when you’re discussing the upcoming features of HoT or anything else about GW2. So here’s a Grind formula for you…

x-y=z

X is the amount of input required to get a desired output (Ascended armor piece, Leveling to 80, getting Taylor to 500… but not legendary weapons or fractal skins because RNG).

X is defined by ANET (think XP, Materials, etc.).

Y is the amount of input any individual BELIEVES should get them the desired output and varies with each individual.

Z is what most of us would call grind… So keep the discussions polite and remember, there is NO RIGHT answer when it comes to people’s opinions about grind.

This match was on 2/2/2015 during thief and warrior daily, happened around 9:15pm EST. Final score was in the 500-250 neighborhood.

Next match was even worse but in my favor, appeared the other team was a 2+3 or a 5man, as all had the “Join Party” option. Pic is from the first match…

Thanks Pixels. I appreciate the information. However, it seems to me this change is a bane couched as a boon. What a very unsatisfying response. Seriously… on the off chance we are in a load screen and miss the prompt, we are now forced into the mist where we can do literally nothing—for our own good. Was there an outcry of players being frustrated because they missed the prompted taking “60 seconds or more to load a zone” (on a pc from last century, apparently)?

I see more players frustrated because now they have to watch a pot boil. Further, I have missed more queues because I get side tracked while being alt tabbed than I ever did while running around pve. I cannot think of a single instance where I missed a prompt because of a load screen, or cinematic. I do not think my experience is unique, and implore Anet to redress this change.

Yeah, the old way was better, wish they could do a hybrid…

“We now send players to Heart of the Mists when you queue for a match to make everything uniform and make sure everyone got the match prompt as in other areas you could be stuck in a cinematic or stuck in a load screen.”

Hey folks. I recently finished LS2 on my second character, and I did a video capture of the two cinematics you get at the end. I really enjoyed both and felt they were both unique and effective. I liked them so much, I decided to do a mash-up of the two different videos focusing on the airship battle featured in both.

Here’s the results, hope you like it!

This was all done with free software, so excuse the watermarks and stuff… ;o)

Yeah, I’m hoping for the spears on land thing. But this was really funny stuff.

I’m new so don’t hate, but how would you learn to use a water weapon on land? You’d have to do a tutorial on that first so players like me don’t find it too complicated.

I’d pay 200 gems to watch Scarletmoth fight the Marionette.

Son, if you don’t log in during that week… you’ll pay 600.

It’s 1328, time for some predictions!
(Toonberg Press – LA, 09:30) With the new year come new changes, and we at Toonberg have checked our Crystal Lodestones, gazed at the heavens and consulted the Legendary Shaman to bring you our predictions for 1328 (the year of the tadpole). So with out further ado and in no particular order, behold:

1. In 1328 the Tyrian Fishing and Wildlife commission will begin licensing Tyrian heroes to use spears on land.

2. In 1328 the activist group Tyrians for Honesty in Advertising will successfully sue Box o’ Fun makers BOF to rename their product… Box o’ Meh.

3. In 1328 Asuran researchers will discover Zommoros is actually the manifestation of the Skritt’s hive mind… “ohhh, shinny toilet.”

4. In 1328 Tyria’s finest will defeat Mordremoth only to discover he was actually Scarlet Briar, prompting the exhumation of Scarlet Briar’s body only to discover she was actually Mordremoth at which time Caithe will appear with the stolen egg only to have it hatch “Scarletmoth,” a particularly large Quaggan with a taste for cheap whiskey and penchant for pulp fiction. She will be Tyria’s greatest adversary.

5. In 1328 Logan Thackeray will discover Rytlock Brimstone locked in his closet where he has become addicted to wood alcohol (and subsequently blind) after accidentally deleting Sohothin when attempting to toss out some Bloodstone Dust.

6. In 1328 Tyria’s greatest heroes will become bored with battling each other on circles in the Mists and switch to triangles only to quickly move to rhombuses before settling back on circles.

7. In 1328 Asuran colleges will convene a week long summit to discuss the 79.7% failure rate of all golemns.

So there you have it folks, 7 predictions of the year of the tadpole. Will spears work better than hammers? Can Tyrians defeat Scarletmoth? Will Logan convince Rytlock to leave his closet? Find out in the year 1328!

yea… pretty darn close. Though.. the sword…any idea what the hell that may be? Just curios

Probably the GW2 Skin: Chaos Sword.

That’s what it looks like. He had a similar sword in the crystal desert.

ah.. so basically just his “usual stuff”.

Yeah, but he’s def. got an updated look. Whether that makes him a unique, new character or a GW2 ver. of the Ghostly Hero remains to be seen. I do like the PvP implications though… :o)
