As someone who engages in PvE, dabbles in WvW/sPvP/Raids, and most importantly, has 34 characters, 29 of whom are lvl. 80, and ALL of whom have RP involvement planned out. . . please please please raise the guild cap!!

I’m part of FoW for the Yak’s Bend WvW involvement. I’m part of SSC as a guild officer and frequent leader for TD and AB meta runs. I’m part of a small guild run by IRL friends for IRL friend shenanigans. I’m part of two Nightmare Court RP guilds.

And that caps me out! I still have tons of asura characters I’d love to have involved in asura RP guilds like the Peacemakers of Rata Sum or an Inquest guild. I’d like to get my sylvari dreamers involved in Verdance. Some friends and I want to start a sky pirate guild. With so many characters, it’s really hard to find them all homes when I can’t actually join the guilds I want to interact with on those characters. I’d really appreciate it if the guild cap could be raised!

Ideally, I think it would be great if you could join a guild for each character, but I get it if that’s too excessive.

Please consider this! <3 Thanks!

Regarding Revenants

I know you guys mentioned revenants already, but I think what a lot of us in the RP community want to know about revenants is less about the mechanics of how the revenant profession works. I understand that we don’t actually “know” how elementalists or guardians work either.

Rather, we’re hoping to find out some general idea of how, since revenants didn’t exist prior to Rytlock’s trip to the Mists, how are they cropping up now, how have they learned about the skills necessary, etc.

That is to say, the issue is really about the canon newness of the class. Elementalists and warriors have been around for ages, people are trained in their respective arts, they’re a known quantity. It makes sense for a character to enter the story with a good grasp of those abilities. But because the revenant profession is canonically very new to the world of Tyria, it becomes inherently kind of important to know how the character got hold of this knowledge with Rytlock off fighting Mordremoth.

Is it simply not technically canon for a revenant to lead the fight against Mordremoth? Or did Rytlock do some “evangelizing” before heading to the jungle? Do revenants technically only come into existence post-Mordremoth?

Obviously there’s going to be a decent amount of “just accept it as game mechanics that don’t affect lore,” e.g. the ability to play through the personal story and the fall of Zhaitan on a revenant (lol), but if there’s an official canon on the revenant player character’s place in the timeline, we’d like to know! Or at the very least, I would!

Guild Hall 5 Person Instance is A Hindrance

This would be nice.

It’s also kind of a logistical issue when a guild gathers up in their guild hall for GMs or something, and they put down food and banners. If more people join and it spawns a larger instance, you kinda lose that food and banners.

Just kind of a nuisance that would be nice to have fixed.

Thoughts on the Tangled Depths meta event

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Raeysa Penrose.8450

It’s AWESOME. It really is. I know it’s super hard and only two or so groups have beat it so far, but it’s really great challenging content that requires a lot of skill, coordination, and practice.

I’ve run the event around 6 times now (gotta get that Mistguard headwrap!). I’ve learned a lot. I’ve had to brave up and get better at fighting melee. I’ve had to lead. I’ve had to be able to forgive myself for my mistakes, and others for theirs.

I’ve had to step up tag, organize, command, and teach, since not a lot of people are organizing the event yet. I’m terribly shy with a lot of social anxiety, but the community of people trying this event have been extremely friendly, willing to learn, willing to forgive, and willing to learn with me. It’s made me even more eager to get a legitimate commander tag (I’ve been using the lovely budget tag XD) and get more involved in helping the community in-game.

I’ve made some friends, at a casual level, literally from seeing them map after map. We organize, fight the boss, fail, discuss what we learned, and then go our separate ways for an hour until it’s time to start organizing for the next run. We start to recognize each other’s names and call each other out in map chat. We start taking responsibilities for different lanes and strategies. And we look forward to seeing those names again next run, even though we’ve never and may never done anything else together.

I’ve done a lot of things during the Tangled Depths meta event.

Still haven’t beat it, though. XD

My reaction to the event is almost entirely positive. The difficulty is almost entirely of the good, challenging, interesting kind. We keep losing, but we also keep learning things we can do better. For the most part, we haven’t been feeling like we lost for no reason. We felt like we had learned some way we could do better next time, and we really did improve.

The one issue I’d have is that, after 6 or so tries, I and others are running into a bit of a wall. We’ve improved a TON, but we’re still not quite there. I know a couple of groups have beat the event, but it seems a little depressing if only incredibly elite, highly organized groups can beat it.

We’re a bunch of pickup groups, learning but still working largely with pugs. Personally, I don’t think we should have to give that up. There’s a sense of community and camaraderie in working with pugs, rather than having to form some highly efficient group (not that I don’t think those should exist, but save it for raids?).

From what we’re learning, it’s reached a point where the only thing we can really improve on is having the groups mostly comprised of melee, full-zerk players. We’re completing all the objectives in time. We’re taking out the chak rushes. We’re destroying the break bars in under 4s. We know the event pretty dang well. The issue is that the chak gerents are huge damage sponges. They’re really really huge. We don’t really know what else to do but put out more DPS. Significantly more DPS.

Of course, zerker melee builds in the challenging content for HOT are hard to pull off. Some of us are (me included, though I’m fairly new to the melee thing), and some of us simply aren’t. It’s a lot to ask to have an entire organized map of zerker melee players who can pull that off and not be constantly dying, WPing, and running back.

I think there’s a line between challenging group content and punishing the playerbase for not having a majority of elite players. Mostly this event is challenging group content. That last 20% of the gerents’ health, though? It’s starting to seem a little punishing.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still getting back on tomorrow afternoon and giving this another shot. Who knows, maybe I’m wrong and I’ll learn more, find out that yes, there’s something else besides DPS we could be doing better. But my general impression is that the event would be more rewarding and get more people feeling like they could actually tackle it (just finding enough people who are willing to attempt it is a big undertaking, since so many are just not expecting to win, ever.) if we had about 10% more time or the bosses had about 10% less health.

tl;dr: waaa waaa nerf gerent pls. XD No but seriously, this event is great.

Thanks for a great experience, and if you read all that, thanks for that too. XD

P.S. Don’t quote me on my numbers, numbers are hard. That’s just my general feel, the numbers could be a little off.

The only real issue I have, given that I know ANet’s working on the bugs, is the pricing of the rewards. I’ve been told that we can get up to 5 blooms per invasion, which means 5/hour. At that rate, in order to get one of the selfless/selfish potions, you’d have to be playing for around 22 hours of every single day of the event, leaving around 6ish hours to sleep.

As I ‘m not sure whether the rate is a further result of the bug or a set thing, I’ll refrain from commenting further until the next patch goes up. I hope I can get my potion(s) without unhealthy sleep deprivation though!

Hair accessory dyes

Raeysa Penrose.8450

I’m sure this has been said before, bug I haven’t seen any threads on this in the most recent pages so I’m going to say it again.

Hair accessory dyes. It’s bothered me since my first hair kit that even if you go and pay gems for gorgeous new hairstyles, no matter what you do, you’re still only going to have the most basic, limited dyes to colour their accessories with. Hair colours are varied and keep getting dyes added, but not the accessories. I’m really puzzled by this and would love for it to be changed! I guarantee I’d buy at least 600% more hairstyle kits off the gemstore if I knew I could also change the colours of ribbons and beads and gemstones like I can the hair itself.

I know Anet probably won’t see this, but if you do—please consider making this change! My knowledge on the programming behind this is limited, but it wouldn’t be adding new dye channels or modeling or anything, just adding available colours for an existing channel, right? I hope to see this improved upon in the future!!

Are you rolling Sylvari for HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Raeysa Penrose.8450

what was the dev suggestion?

More telling than Colin’s suggestion is this excerpt from the News Blog:

Scott and Bobby recommend a playthrough of the story as a sylvari to experience the full psychological horror of Mordremoth’s power. The Elder Dragon can implant thoughts in its creations—thoughts they may even believe to be their own—and only a combination of immense willpower and the protection of the Pale Tree can prevent Mordremoth from taking control. Sylvari receive calls to action in the form of the Wyld Hunt—or the Dark Hunt, for Nightmare Courtiers—and these compulsions act as an access point for Mordremoth’s influence.

Shadowstep/Blink "fixes"

Raeysa Penrose.8450

Honestly… people will complain about anything.
This is a MASSIVE fix to teleporting issues that have existed since launch, and you are upsed because you can’t hack through walls “for RP purposes (wink wink).”

Yeah, no.

You want to ask that those secret rooms be opened for everyone, go right ahead. Don’t ask for a roll back on an exploit fix so you can continue to access locked content that other people can’t. Why would anyone even take that request seriously?

Whatever the reasoning is, there is a reason it’s closed. Primarily its just leftovers because of a large number of things that were scrapped before launch.

Not really. I respect that the dungeon exploits and such needed to be fixed. We’re asking whether there could be a way to fix the gamebreaking exploits without killing the fun exploration options that are, yes, sometimes used for RP, and sometimes used for pure explorative fun. [Fell], for example, is a guild that does a lot of hide-and-seek activities and enjoys taking people on free tours around the world, showing neat views you wouldn’t see otherwise. People generally share information on these sorts of things, and it makes everything a lot more fun.

Yes, gamebreaking is an issue and needs to be dealt with, but if there’s an option that doesn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, that would be even better.

Zelanard, the thing is that the megaserver system puts you on maps with people it considers relevant to you. Most RPers are from the Tarnished Coast server, so they get put on shards with other TC players. If you are friends with a lot of TCers, you are more likely to get put on the same maps with them.

If you’re interested in getting involved with RP, or even with just seeing it around the game, I’d advise you to check out guildwars2roleplayers.com and touch base with people there. You can find people to friend, guilds to join, and generally get some contacts within the RP community. If you party/guild/friend up with several of them, you’re more likely to run into our sort throughout the game.

Just a couple of tips! Have a nice day!

What if they just removed those sorts of exploits from dungeons, but left the open world content intact?

I know, but instead of fixing the map when it comes to getting into the aquarium and other places they imply that it’s a pathing error by “fixing” tele/shadowstep and the like. They did the same thing by “fixing” farmable events. Instead of putting a cast on a broken arm, they just amputate it.

Yeah, it’s really frustrating. :/

I’m betting 10 Charrs that we don’t even get clickable interactable chairs during the expansion. Guild halls should have been around from day one of this sequel and then player housing added later for the expansion. That might have kept players around or even attract role player from other games.

For the record, we do have a pretty decent RP community in GW2, and the game hasn’t been terribly unfriendly to us. It’s just not been especially supportive either.

Things that are not gamebreaking, things that are not dungeon cheats. Jumps that merely enrich the gaming experience and do not detract from it.

Okay, so there have been some updates in the past that I have been less than thrilled about (cough cough leveling system cough), but up until now every change has been something I could respect in concept, just not necessarily in implementation. This, however, is just not okay.

Shadowstepping/teleporting to otherwise inaccessible locations. Why would you “fix” this? Of all the things you could have worked on, you picked this?

You’ve admitted that the trait system as it stands is less than perfect and needs some reworking, you’ve completely removed entire arcs from the personal story as if that were acceptable, you’ve changed the leveling system so that it is actually tedious where it wasn’t before. These areas could all use work. These areas have actually been harmful to the game in some small part. Accessing interesting and unique views on the world you’ve worked so hard to model and show off? Absolutely pointless, actively harmful to certain player communities, and altogether an unprofitable, unpopular, unwanted change.

Guilds have been formed around hide-and-seek and exploration activities that were inherently based on the shadowstep/blink exploits you have just removed. Roleplay communities have found beautiful spots to interact without disruption. People have made friends, created events, formed communities all based around friendly competition as to who could find the most interesting spots to play. There have been absolutely no gamebreaking or “cheating” aspects to this feature of the game, and removing it as an option actively moves against your philosophy of “play how you want to play.”

I know it doesn’t mean much as I’m just one kid out of thousands of players, but dear god, I have been the most active proponent of this game in my social circles. I have dragged nearly every friend I have into this game, become a foghorn every time the game went on sale, gone on endless rants about how amazingly the game continues to grow and develop. Every change I have seen has been actively furthering the beautiful aspects of GW2, even if sometimes they have taken some tweaking to pull off correctly. This, however, is a very negative step that I dearly hope you are not serious about.

Please, please, please reconsider. Thank you for your time.

The very fact that an issue has been made of Jory and Kas’s relationship is a pretty clear indication that their relationship needs to be there. It’s only an issue if you make it one, and people seem pretty determined to do so. They’re another two characters who love each other. There doesn’t have to be a motive. No one questions whether the heterosexual relationships in GW2 are for brownie points or money or fanservice. Just the gay ones.

Jory is a person. Kas is a person. Jory and Kas love one another, gender be kitten ed. End of story.

Why do you feel compelled to antagonize those who don’t hold the same view as you? I’ll agree, many who advocate a binary gender model are homophobic. But that bigotry is just as steadfast in those who hold true to the spectrum gender model.

“The very fact that an issue has been made of Jory and Kas’s relationship is a pretty clear indication that their relationship needs to be there.”

Yeah, that is a very open minded view. I suppose you are right, culture should be diverse as long as it is a culture you agree with.

The sylvari took up a great deal of the game with your ideals. And I held my tongue out of respect – it was very well done. Various NPC’s showed up with your values. Held my tongue still and enjoyed playing a great game along side you all. With the addition of Jory and Kas I think the devs are just overdoing it at this point. I voice my opinion of this and you guys get aggravated over nothing. Bravo. Well, done. You have become what you dislike the most.

Lack of tolerance for heterosexuality would be to disinclude heterosexual relationships. Inclusion of homosexual relationships is not close-mindedness.

A culture that accepts both hetero and homosexuality is diverse. A culture that disincludes either sexuality is not diverse. That’s not closed-mindedness. Closed-mindedness would be only accepting homosexual relationships, which is not the case here.

Kurrilino, please stop claiming that everyone who disagrees with you is a teenager with no interest in the lore. Those who are arguing against you are very much concerned about the lore, which is why they are trying to correct your faulty understanding of it.

On an unrelated note, if you are going to insult peoples’ intelligence, kindly work on your grammar, s;pelling, punctuation, and language usage first. Thanks.

…What is this s;pelling you speak of?

Fixed, thanks.

I don’t make a habit of bugging people for their competence with the English language. The issue is that he’s making a habit of insulting other peoples’ intelligence. If you’re going to assume a position of superiority, you ought to demonstrate it properly.

Indeed english isn’t my native tongue.
But i managed to learn and speak 5 languages fluid.
For the position of superiority we continue the coversation in latin, shall we ????

The point of this thread actually is that it would be great if A-Net would have filled the gap until China is ready with something exiting and rediscovering a little part of the map.
It just got out of control when these Sci-Fi teens told me the Dwarfs never left Shiverpeaks and how it is absolutely impossible to have living Dwarfs as NPC’s even having the Great Dwarf still around and how they don’t belong into a blade n’ plate fantasy game while Borgs and Star Ships do

All I’m saying is that it’s not very polite to assume that everyone who disagrees with you is a teenager with no respect for lore. :P

On the topic of casual versus hardcore gaming. . .

First of all, the elitism around hardcore gaming is really getting a bit outdated and is certainly out of place in a game like GW2, where the entire point of the game is unity, cooperation, and acceptance. The personal story, the design of the MMO aspects of the game—everything points to being decent to one another. Why can’t this extend to casual/hardcore gaming debate?

Secondly, even were the hardcore and casual labels legitimate, they wouldn’t account for people whose situations don’t allow for hours and hours on end of gaming, regardless of how much they want to play. Some people need to work to survive. That’s just the way it is, and they shouldn’t be punished for it. GW2 doesn’t belong exclusively to hardcore gamers, and really shouldn’t.

That said, again, this thread is for the purpose of sharing positive experiences. Please keep off-topic comments to the abundance of other threads in this forum that are meant for critique of the game. Thanks!

Personally, I’ve found that GW2 has less of a problem with elitism than any other MMO I’ve tried. Not that elitism isn’t there, of course, but you can never completely get rid of these problems.
