Actually the right terms are Team arena and Solo arena. So yea, it can be confusing.

It literally says

Solo Arena
“Automatically find a team to play with”

Team Arena
“Form a team before playing”

if you dont push the button twice fast enough the waterfield wont appear right at the start.

The 2nd button press activates the healing turret overcharge on the next healing turet activation – as long as you press the button fast enough in succession it will always be almost instant (still takes like half a second to pop) but if you dont you might have a quite noticable delay

Runes of Lyssa + basi venom = third-highest stability uptime in the game (behind bunker guardians and warriors)

Besides, skyhammer is essentially a map about stealth. Stability is trivial.

^yes you totally can do that before the game after it popped. 2 minutes should be more than enough. I do it regularly not only with equipment but traits as well. Even after getting into the map to see what matchup im u against.

And yes most meta builds are simply being played for a complete lack of alternative. I cant imagine a single ranger actually WANTING to play this brain afk build.

I think you clearly underestimate how strong MMnecroes are in 1v1s. You obviously have not seen the patch updates to MMnecroes. It’s annoying to fight such builds because it’s a mass clusterkitten of kitten that you have to go through, when your first priority is to get the bone golem down.

Let me see…

ranger —> use your own pet to dps necro and kite the minions (chill on weapon swap or the long aoe cripple are typical choices) easy win

engineer —> nades+bombs lol ez win

thief —> lolstep to necro --> dps necro —> step back when minions come near --> wait for minions to get away from MM —> lolstep back in --> gg

warrior —> just aoe / stunlock the minions to death while you destroy the nec as well

Mesmer —> Better minions + stealth + aoe burst --> gg

Ele isnt viable and so is dps guard so far…

The only scary thing about minion nec is getting stuck in his stupidly long immobilize which is on ridiculous cooldown. Dealing with minions is as easy as PvE. Minions arent very smart.

Not to mention minions are unplayable on kylho anyway.

I refuse to play skyhammer map in tpvp anymore, it is just a waste of time.

If u dont want to play the map dont play soloq simple yes. I dont like all the maps / a bunch of players/bad builds. But when i sign up i would smash my keyboard just to win. Afk is not an option.

minion master necro builds are horrendous as long as you can kite / aoe snare / kill the minions. This idea that these guys are good 1v1ers is pure garbage.

I think youre correct! my mistake! Whirl actually cleanses on hitting friendlys
. Too lazy to test though might still be wrong but vaguely remember it this way as well – really not sure.

i am VERY sure about light field + projectile though.

A well timed enemies dodge roll can really mess you up though AS STATIC DISCHARGE (Some weird chat filter forced me to type like that….)

You’re suppose to count those dodges accordingly but you’re definitely right.

Power (SD) engi (at least in PvP – i know power works a lot better in wvw because of scaling) should be dead by the time his enemy has used 2 dodge rolls.

Of all classes at the moment engis have, by far, the least condi removal. 2 every 15 seconds attached to a heal.

It’s even worse than mesmers who have the convenience of being a power class that’s able to use lyssa in addition to their mantra or nullfield….

It’s very depressing to see our survivability continually nerfed when it’s the weakest aspect of any viable engineer build by a long shot…

Have to repost this for emphasis again. Sooo trueeee.

Also @ all the people who dont understand how projectile + light field work here is how:

It cleanses in a VERY SMALL AOE around the target hit.
So in order to pull it off successfully all you have to do is:

- put down 10 second elixir gun lightfield and pretty much stand in it (because if u dont youre either not getting the combo at all or youre not in melee range of your opponent so it doesnt do anything anyway
- be in melee range
- pray your opponent doesnt just walk away a few steps
- pray your opponent doesnt blind/block/dodge
- bring 2 specific utility skills – one of which HAS to be elixir gun and the other HAS to be a projectile finisher

GZ! You have now successfully cleansed ONE CONDITION.

Best of all now that the pvp que/hotjoin system is disjointed from the heart of the mists there’s no penalty at all.

In fact I think we should be able to camp the PvErs and not let em run through without dieing first..

Lets say the teams are balanced. Consisting of 1 Awesome person, 3 Mediocre, 1 Awful.

Their home point has 1 Awesome/mediocre from your team (I don’t know how well you rate yourself but prolly in one of those 2 categories) and the awful person from theirs.
The other 2 points have all 4 of their best players and the worst or second worst lineup from your team.

Now lets assume it isnt balanced, you’ve had bad luck and ended up with the worse team this round. Be that through skill levels or classes.

This is the nature of Hotjoin oh i mean Soloq. Just see it for what it is, better rewarded hotjoin ^^ Also it will hopefully improve over time as the system figures stuff out. But don’t get too upset it will always be a luck dependent thing, if you want security in who is going to be on your team do Teamq.

On topic it was a nice guide.

There is no condition meta anymore gasp . In fact that hasnt been one for a while either in team q or solo q.

I think your balance changes with nerfs to necro condis, and incendary ammo/sun spirit are about 3 months out of date anet.

Actually i think if ANET has gotten ANY data out of teamq / soloq ladder then it should be obvious to them.

The necro bleed reductions on skills are stupid as hell – literally the absolute most unnecessairy thing to nerf about necro. (with the sole exception of traited Staff (2) on foefire – but hell – i havent seen a necro trait staffs ever since Dhuumfire+terror+50%fear duration.

Same with engi. Bomb/Nade will not be affected by the burn proc trait location change at all.

Pure nades on the other hand will be completely kittened – just like HGH. Ohh yea and all those totally OP engineer condition builds that only put 10 trait points in power to get the burn proc #facepalm.

I mean everyone is getting nerfed and just based on consistency the trait change for the burn proc makes sense – but in practical execution – there is nothing popular right now that will be hurt by the burn proc trait location change.

It will only reduce build diversity (lol anet gj!) again leaving Bomb/Nade as the only half playable choice.

I want to know how this is still possible.

its possible because there is literally no playerpool and top 100 get matched with random kittens. Either its people who literally play tourneys for the first time or dudes who just play way too much and never stopped sucking. Check the top 100 – you can literally get there with a winratio of less than 50%

as for your question – where new players are matched – according to anet its at top 500 where u are first placed when u enter the game.

When i played the first game on my 2nd account i was matched with pretty much the best top 100 players in the game currently. Nuff said really..

After i won the 2nd game i got ladderspot 15. So yea its pure RNG now – teams are terrible – strats are idiotic – and even a good amount of the actual decent players just go there to kitten around and do kittened kitten. Overall soloq leaderboard is entirely worthless now.

And if i see another entirely kittening incompetent rifle bunker engi im going to kitten him in real life – i swear. (if u feel addressed i can assure you – YES! that means you!)

Then I started using the 10s light field on the Elixir Gun’s Super Elixir skill comboed with Throw Wrench and our various other 20% chance projectile finishers for extra condition cleanse and I’m happy.

At least in tpvp this is impossible to pull off unless your opponent is braindead.

Also the condition cleanse being a very small aoe around the target hit sure as hell doesnt help.

In PvE this is ok – in PvP its borderline useless. (Also having to use elixir gun and one of our mostly hillariously bad projectile finishers doesnt leave much free room to adjust builds)

The thing is imo that there are a LOT more players in hotjoin than in tourneys imo.

If ranks are what currently drives you to play then there really isnt mcuh incentive to go tourneys.

Also the waiting is still an issue :/ but that would actually improve with more players

I feel like if they were better familiarized with the gametype and maps then they wouldnt be so bad… Upon further thinking i couldnt even think of one thing there is in the HotM to help give them an introduction to spvp. (Hot-joins? forget about it)

Actually with the introduction of skills having to be unlocked to be used it kind of forces people to play a bit before going tourney.

…. that or if they still have the option they will probably go in with nothing but a heal skill equipped xD

If people will really use the kittening worst and dumbest trait in the game as an excuse for sucking all the way please just nerf this kitten. Its kittening worthless to begin with.

automated response is kitten – too expensive only allows for defensive builds – you cant carry with settlers and with rabid its not really worth it because you lose crit procs anyway when you go for AR

only helps vs necro – worthless vs anything else

just nerf it and nerf all the kittening condi reflects on necro with it – matchup is kittening dumb atm

Also i have met a very small number of strong necros who are actually able to deal with AR solo and dont just stand there and spam scepter auto like most do.

And concerning power engi.. actually the only decent power engi i have met said to me that necros are his worst matchup (he specifically said necros instead of warrior when i asked) because theres just not enough condi remove to go around.

But necros are susceptible to fast burst and CC (which warrior does better than engi without having to worry about being chain feared to death yolo)

i highly doubt there will be enough gold rewarded for it to actually be profitable by active farming (compared to what u can make in PvE with CoF runs and the like)

leeching on the other hand…

not having instant access to skills is pretty meh – i wont be able to create characters on the fly and hop into tourneys right away so its kind of a waste of time to have to grind for the skill points

The thing is glory has never been really useful and rank currently has pretty much no meaning as well – ill be sad about missing out on shark and whatever but either way the progression system so far wasnt very good.

I understand people cling to it because its the only thing we currently have but personally i’d rather see them attempt something different than this.

i totally agree that topstats should have more impact even if it would force roles on players in pvp going tryhard to rezz your team or get kills or caps is never a bad thing

(unless people try to all get most fullcaps and all always stand on node together – which people are already still doing even though there is literally no reason to atm… i really dont get it – people in hotjoin are not very smart)

Maybe map specific objects would be weird when everyone always rushes svanir and chief / lord etc. On Kylho i would love to see players going for treb more often. So many teams in hotjoin get destroyed just because no one wants to go to the enemy treb.

actually if they give gold a t the end of the match in general and it is still possible to earn pvp rewards by just hopping into an almost finished game then people might pvp farm (even if its not as rewarding as PvE farming) by either

a) hopping on almost finished matches and joining a team and doing anything to get the gold reward

b) LEEEEECH which is very bad. Leeching is already an issue now that you are pretty much rewarded for doing next to nothing and a losing

Signet of Spite is the one of the most broken skills in the game imo. A range skill 0.75 sec cast time with little tele to it that puts basically puts all the condis in the game on you. I would not mind it that much if the cripple on it only lasted like 3-4 seconds not 10 whole seconds…..
That cripple also gives them so much more time to spam there scepter one which has no travel time and puts at least 4 condis that basically take half your health bar due to passive traits (since we need more passives in the game…). Also a 10 sec weakness.. really? Weakness hard counters dps builds. Necros really need to be looked at I would not mind it as much if there was some travel time to some of there skills, so I could actually dodge there kitten. Also the amount of condi transfers they have right now are ridiculous.

most of the conditions from Signet of Spite aren’t really that harmful unless they’re coming from a pure conditionmancer

no reason to pick spite unles you are condi.

Also the real issue with spite isnt the conditiondamage it puts out itself (even though thats a nice addition) but the ton of covering conditions it loads on a player who cant remove the damaging condition because of all the stuff stacked on top (unless you got a full cleanse like lyssa)(also weakness for 10 sec + cripple is a very nice antiburst)

Changing finishers to depend on ladder and not rank – gold in pvp – skins swappable between both all very nice. New heal skill

2 Questions:
It says that finishers which havent been earned yet will not be unlockable through the new system if i read correctly. Does that mean no dragon finisher?

It also said that glory is to be removed with gold in the long run (which sounds reasonable to me) but will i still get the chance to do something with the redonculous amount of glory i got by now before that happens?(maybe 2-3 legendaries?)

1v1 pvp Tourney build

bring rocket turret (not sure how good it still is in 1v1 but when it still burned it was totally op) and defense. Especially when your opponent is specced very offensive.

Spec differently against every class <

Melee classes should melt to settlers + bombs + rocket turret and the 2 defense on stun traits should make you invulnerable against warriors.

ranged will be harder especially mesm

For ranger and against ai heavy opponents bring some aoe snare to kite the pets the entire match (doesnt work against mesm)

People in 1v1 tourneys tend to run crazy stuff so be prepared for weirdness.

As for specific classes:
Against guardian bring range and condi —- nades+snare are perfect imo.

Against necro it reallys depends as i would expect a few power necros maybe? so it might be scary to try to counter condi nec and then meet a hybrid or MM or some crap.

Against condi i would highly suggest picking up autmoated response soldiers amulett + elixir C + rocket turret + tool kit and just put turret down and try to hit the necro from behind all the time. (this wont work at all against power though). Just use elixir C once you hit 25% hp (about 6K) and then you should be invincible unless he has some other form of direct damage (like elite :/ which again can be kited easily though)

The very strong scepter autoattack from necro requires facing the opponent directly so running behind them all day really makes them happy
