Just logged in and selected my warrior. Got the daily log in chest. Another chest popped up alongside it. Opened the daily log in chest and then opened the second chest. This second chest told me that I had completely trained my warriors Berserker trait line and gave me a Helmet as a reward.
Erm ok, considering I hadn’t completely finished training this trait line last night when I logged off (I was round one third of the way round), this was a little bit of a surprise.
Bug? Intended? Who knows, perhaps Anet can take a look.
It’s not a bug. Hero points required was decreased to 250, from 400.
Me and a couple of guild mates are experiencing the following issue.
When we complete 1 of the new maps (e.g Verdant Brink, Auric Basin) we do not get the reward chest for 100% completion, even though it sais that the map is 100% complete.
This issue occured yesterday, about 17 hours ago with the patch that was implemented at that time with the big bug changes. That is when this issue occured for us. (Thats for Verdant Brink) … Today the same thing happened with Auric Basin.I am not entirely sure if this is supposed to be like that and to be gating people to receive less Gifts for the new legendaries, but this problem occured on my 3rd Alt Character when I completed those zones with it. For my guildies this was an issue with their 1st exploration attempts.
Did you have 100% world completion before HoT launch on the alts that did not receive a reward? I believe that’s the common thing between everyone having this issue.
I am talking about 100% Map Completion… Not 100% World completion. Even though this issue occurs on my Thief, which has 100% world Completion, exept the new zones.
I know what you’re talking about. Many people are reporting their characters who had 100% WORLD completion before HoT launch are not getting rewards when they 100% MAP complete the new zones (which is exactly what I said above).
You can buy them at the Laurel Merchant from what I understand.
That’s what I was missing ^.
I did understand that it unlocked automatically, but the character I unlocked it on does not have 400 in that crafting profession, while I have 500 tailor on a different character. One of the first things I tried was looking at the profession trainers/merchants for a recipe to buy. Never though to look at the laurel merchant.
Perhaps there would be some benefit to adding a pop-up text thing directing people to that when they get the achievement.
It seems fairly ridiculous that I would have to level a crafting profession to 400 on that specific character just to be able to create the elite spec runes, especially when I’ve already maxed the profession out (just on a different character). Or am I missing a vendor that sells the recipe once you’ve unlocked it?
I’ve checked the tailoring vendor in Lion’s Arch (nothing), tried seeing if the recipe was unlocked on my 500 Tailor character (nothing), and tried discovering it (couldn’t). Would it be possible to make this an account bound unlock?

I’m not receiving any map completion rewards. I’m on characters that had 100% map completion before HoT came out. This is true for Southsun Cove, Dry Top, Silverwastes and Verdant Brink (haven’t completed any other maps yet).
Rebound:
The healing amount is so negligible that it feels like it doesn’t activate. I realize this is supposed to be a clutch skill, but with the casting time, short duration, and such a small heal that you’ll still die instantly after using it, it’s not really worth bringing. Perhaps if it was a 2-3 second evade/distortion/invuln instead, or if it healed for quite a bit more.
So just to clarify, you have to Pre-Purchase to receive the character slot ? Or it will be available to everyone who purchases the expansion Pre-Purchase or not ?
Also I see July 31 mentioned a few times in the blob, is it safe to assume Pre-Purchase will end July 31, 2015 ?
Yes, the bonus character slot is only if you pre-purchase.
I’m thinking the July 31st date is only because it gives a realistic cut-off period to get everyone settled with refunds or whatever.
Thank you for the quick response
Judging by the reactions in game and everywhere else, you’ve made a lot of people more willing to prepurchase and a lot happier about the edition options (including me). Glad to see Anet is still the same company I’ve trusted for years.
They then conveniently offer a character slot but at a much higher price (previous xpacs came with not 1 but 2, free).
I’m in the same mindset and agree with you, but do keep in mind the reason Factions/Nightfall gave two character slots each was because they both added two new professions.
Even so, that just begs the argument that we should be getting at least one for the Revenant.
Yeah, of course. Sorry if I wasn’t clear, I tried to word it so that I didn’t come across as being against it >.< Just I see a lot of people throwing around “We got two slots with nightfall and factions!” as if there wasn’t a reason behind getting two slots.
You buy HoT and register a new account. Your current account is now your second.
If you don’t care about achievements and other stuff, of course. But what all the second account fuss is about? Daily chest? But isn’t most stuff from is account bound, so you won’t get it for your main.
Laurels can be turned into t6 mats which = money.
You can also use the character slots on your second account to get daily bonuses/boosts of income, like leaving them at a gathering farm/rich node (like potatos or strawberries), or by leaving them at the end of the jumping puzzle in lion’s arch (at level 21) for a chance at silver doubloons (what I do).

They really need to change the wording on their buy page. It’s way too vague.
Basically, Heart of Thorns comes with one game code. If you add that game code to an account that doesn’t already have the core game, you get the core game “free” as a bonus. If you add that game code to an account that already has the core game, all it does is add Heart of Thorns to your account.

You do need the core game to play HoT but you can per-order HoT and it comes with the core game. If they once HoT comes out did not have the core game with it THEN you would have to buy GW2 on-top of HoT. Has every one lost there minds this is how per-orders / early kick starers work for some time.
The core game is not a pre-purchase perk. The prepurchase perks are listed in the green banner only.
Anything underneath each edition of the game is what the full game includes. Just like with GW2’s prepurchase.
I think we’re going to see a “passing of the torch” from DE1 to DE2. There’s been a point made that DE2 is really just a bunch of nobodies, and it’s past time for that to change.
It may be mostly symbolic, but things like an injured Eir handing her bow off to Braham are important.
I really hope not. I like DE way more than the new group, and one of my least liked parts of the living story was that they felt abandoned by anet… You have awesome characters that you spent a ton of time developing! Use them!
I was really excited when they started showing up again in S2, but if that was only so they could “discontinue” them again…
At the time of my pre purchase I was still under the impression I’m buying the expansion, and everyone else regardless if new or old player, is doing the same. Their FAQ that I read around the time they released the initial HoT info had me believe that. The original game losing value is a given and I wasn’t at all worried or offended about the sales of it. But adding that product for “free” at the same price value with another product to people that are complete strangers to the series while charging the same to old veterans just for an upgrade, especially when it was a last moment decision, is a shady business practice, and makes me lose trust in Anet as a company. And as I said in my original post this is mainly on me for not reading up carefully, but I didn’t read up carefully because I never had a reason to not trust Anet so far. So yes, you’re right in the fact that it’s a perception issue, but customer care and trust is based exactly on that.
Why? Its quite normal not just for MMOs to offer the original game at a discount when they release an expansion. Like say FFXIV which is launching an expansion right now has a bundle too. $50 for the expansion, $60 expansion + core game. Is arenanet’s decision to instead of discounting the game to $10, they discounted it to $0 that makes this shady for you?
Everyone is simply buying the expansion, if the account you apply that expansion too doesnt have the game, it unlocks the core game for you. I dont really see whats shady about that! No one is being cheated out of anything.
It’s the premise. They say $50 for the expansion, and that you get the core game free when you purchase the expansion. Small print: except if you already have the game. So why can’t I also get the core game if it comes free with purchase? Because I already have an account that I’ve paid for. How does that seem in any way fair? Just because I’ve already paid for my account and the content, someone else who hasn’t gets more from purchasing Heart of Thorns.
Like, I have nothing against getting the core game free with HoT purchase, it’s a great way to get new players in which is good. What’s not good is making your veterans feel as if they’re getting the short end of the stick, just because they’ve already happened to purchase your game/support your company.
ITs actually better then that not only people got refunds but also were allowed to keep their account progress.

It is not better than that.
That reddit thread was one person who had to be tenacious and keep persuading support that he shouldn’t be punished through account termination.
Their standard response to people looking for an upgrade is the typical “30day, account will be terminated, blah, blah” and some people have already taken it.
Anet should have been doing that from the start, but they haven’t.
care to link these? cause I am pretty sure those are nothing but people quoting the standard refund request response. Which according to other people who also succesfully got the account refunded without loosing progress has now changed:
“Actually the code that you are requesting a refund will be permanently disabled. If you registered the code, all features, including game access, will be removed. If you haven’t used the code, the code cannot be registered. If you wish to repurchase the game or the expansion at a later date you will be able to pick up where you last left off by applying a new serial code. Your existing account will not be banned.”
So even if before you had to convince them not to do it (havent seen a single person say they actually lost progress) its definitely not needed anymore.
Hm. Hadn’t read that thread since a few hours after it first came out, guess CS changed their response. Which is good.

That was their initial response to people.
yes I am aware they had a different response. I am just no aware if they actually applied it to anyone. (IE that someone requested this change and actual got his progress deleted)
That would have been pretty evil thing to do and a bad idea on their part. I mean I get it that they want to deter people from refunding and it makes sense but why deter them from rebuying in the future, that part doesnt make sense
Couldn’t say as well. Couple of my friends tried to get refunds but when they got that initial message they just said kitten it, got the refund and then decided to not continue playing.

Actually this game is all about the cosmetic items, otherwise why get a legendary, new armor, or bother to mix and match armor, have a mini, buy anything from the gem store, or have weapon/armor skins at all???? Some people don’t care, very few I’d argue. The bulk of people like their character to look good!
Legendary has higher stats so there goes that one. And a title that everyone will have is not the same as armor skins. Many people buy minis just to auction them off later. I care about cosmetic to a point. All these items will be very easy to obtain and not tradeable. I’m sure there will be an option to upgrade to deluxe later on. My point still remains. IF you don’t care about cosmetic, or at least the cosmetic items included, and we ignore the slot, for reasons stated in original post; we are paying $50 for $50 in gems.
Legendary weapons have the same stats as Ascended weapons.
Legendary allows you to swap stats on-the-fly, which are equal to Ascended gear of the same stat type. That’s the only reason I crafted one.
Of course, now we find out that regular Ascended Weapons will be able to change stats using Skill Points, so…
While losing any infusion/sigil when you do so…

And I did get a new slot… It’s called Beta. That might end up having, as yet, undisclosed value in the future…
The beta slot has no “undisclosed value.” It’s a beta slot. It will disappear as soon as the last beta has ended.
Just want to clarify since I saw this come up a couple of times in this thread and we haven’t actually released our full official patch notes for 6/23 yet….
Ascended Gear will be staying 5% better than Exotic Gear. Gear beyond the tiers we already have are not going to be added and our existing tiers won’t change, they won’t be our main end-game form of progression for your characters/account for all the reasons we’ve covered before – it isn’t what we think Gw2 is about.
Masteries is being added to PvE to help provide this system as our form of progression for PvE moving forward, and the WvW ability system exists for WvW and will be what we use to expand WvW in the future.
To more directly answer some of your point….We are adding a system that lets you change the stats for your ascended gear next Tuesday – which will cost a combination of 10 spirit shards, piece you don’t want anymore, 5 ectos, and an exotic insignia of the stats you want to convert to. Legendary Gear will remain the gear that can freely change stats any time.
-CJ
Will this preserve the runes/sigils on the equipment?
Judging from the blog post today, the guild halls are going to be only for those with the expansion (as they’re located in the maguuma wastes).
For people that don’t have the expansion, you’ll be able to use the Guild Initiative building in Lion’s Arch which will have at least some of the same functionality(?), if not the customization.
Edit to add something from the article about the GI HQ.
We’ve used new technology to make the Guild Initiative Headquarters an instance that is shared by you and your guild members. While the Initiative Headquarters is not a full guild hall, it will provide access to existing features that we’re moving out of the guild panel for those guilds that do not upgrade to the expansion.

It been said mufti times, though I do not have a sorce handy atm, that Anet is upgrading player, or something who recently bought the game to come with Hot, now I do not know how long back, but at least they are doing that and that good.
But they aren’t. They may have said they would, but all they’re doing is honoring their standard 30 day refund policy. If you bought the game within 30 days they will refund your money so you can purchase the new version, but you lose all progress because you’re buying a new account.
Previews of the Heart of Thorns glider skin?

Hey guys!
I’m the happy owner of the GW2 HoT Ultimate pack! I recently received all the exclusive content in my mailbox including the gems and the ‘’Heart of Thorns Glider skin’’
When I click the skin to use it, it disappeared to some location on my account… but now the problem is that I can’t find it anywhere?!!
maybe one of you guys know where I can find the Gilder skin on my account?
Greetings from ,
Lionsheart
It’s not like you can use it yet anyway. It probably went to some part of your wardrobe that hasn’t been unlocked yet.

Thanks “Mr. John Smith”. Snarky answers to real problems are always helpful.
To OP. All you can do is have them contact support. However if they do get a refund then they lose all progress on that account and it’s likely their credit cards will be banned also so it can’t be used to rebuy the game later.
I might be misunderstanding you here, but are you saying that you can only buy 1 game per credit card ? I know several people who have bought more than 1 with the same card.
I think he’s confusing things. AFAIK, refunds are allowed up to 30 days after purchase (this shouldn’t lock your card). If you do a chargeback with your credit card is when you’d unable to purchase the game again with that card. Could be wrong but that’s how I understood/remember it.
Neither of these should matter though, as GMProHeals mentioned upgrading accounts to HoT-Prepurchase if you’ve bought it “recently”. I don’t think they’ve given a cut-off date for “recently” though.

Just here to throw my voice into this.
I was willing to pay $50 for an expansion (although it will already be ~$60 since I’m Canadian). I feel like the content we’re being given will give me more than my moneys worth as far as that goes. I’ve certainly gotten more than my moneys worth of enjoyment from my digital deluxe pre-purchase back in 2012.
What I cannot agree with however, is not having a character slot included in the $50 purchase option. Revenant has been advertised as one of the major selling points of this expansion, but if we don’t have any character slots we have to pay for both the expansion and a character slot to experience it. If I’m paying for the expansion, to access the expansion’s content, I should not have to go through another charge to access content I’ve (hypothetically) already paid for. It’s an underhanded business practice and something that I would not have expected from Arenanet.

But if you’re buying the core game + expansion you’re basically buying a new account. What would happen with the old account then?
If you’re a new player, you pay at least $50 for both the core game and the expansion.
If you already have the core game, you’re paying at least $50 for just the expansion.
Daydreamer is not a Melandru set! The person who posted that text piece on the facebook page even corrected people multiple times in the comments >.< It’s creative writing.
What the writing means is basically: Group of humans go into the Maguuma (or wherever), see these cool things that make them think of Melandru, go back to wherever they came from and try to recreate what they saw.
Well, technically this backpack has nothing to do with either of them [Lyssa or Melandru] . The reference to Melandru is merely there to describe the men amazement at what they saw in the forest. ~SB
As I was explaining above, just because men compared what they saw to Melandru’s doing, doesn’t mean it actually was. It is a poetic comparison, not to be taken too literally ~SB

It’d be nice to get a light, medium, and heavy armor set that we could earn for doing in game stuff every once in a while. I am not in any way against the gem shop stuff. Some of it I love and purchase. 2 times a year would be great. I don’t think asking for 2 sets of armor per year that we can earn in game is asking too much. We got the last few pieces early this year to finish off the 2 SW sets and then, nada y pues y pues nada.
Not getting stuff to play the game for doesn’t make me want to open up my wallet. The best way to get me to open my wallet is release content and store stuff to go along with said content. You guys are dropping the ball big time.
IIRC they’ve already said that from now on armor will be earned in-game and there will only be outfits on the gem store.
There’s new armor coming with the expansion, just like the rest of the new content.
I wish it looked like the Dwayna’s Regalia from Guild Wars 1. Oh well.
This. 1000% this. I appreciate the new one is based on the Dervish Avatar (which means it’s still pretty cool), but when I saw “Dwayna’s Regalia” I was thinking it was time to finally buy some more gems, as the original GW1 costume of that name is far and away my favorite. Oh well, maybe some day ANet will re-name this to what it is – Avatar of Dwayna – and give me the REAL Dwayna’s Regalia… I can wish, right?
It was only “Dwayna Costume” in GW.
No, it was not. The costume had two parts, the headpiece called “dwayna’s diadem” and the outfit called “dwayna’s regalia”
My bad. Never bought it myself, just only saw it as “Dwayna Costume” in the store.
It was a Wintersday release costume if I remember correctly. Maybe if we ask really nice-like we can get a port of it like they got the Lich Outfit
I’d love it if they could port all the costumes over >.< Love the shining blade one >>
We estimate tomorrow, give or take some time.
Some time? It has been almost 6 months since announced at PAX. I know patience is a virtue, but I only have so much of it. Currently the expansion is in TBA form. TBA could mean tomorrow, it could mean winter 2016.
Telling us Q4 2016 would be better then this.
I’ll do you one better, Q3 projections show a quadruple earnings, and they slipped up saying summer release and the pre-patch will be in 1-3 weeks handling the specialization changes. Long story short, expect between July and September and you’ll be golden.
You’re going to be disappointed.
The summer released thing was already reneged (hesitant to even use that because it wasn’t really “promised”) on by another dev.
The predictions were for a heavy increase in Q3, with even more of an increase in Q4 which imo is more likely to mean prepurchases will start sometime july/september, with the actual release being closer to october/november (if not even december).

Q3 projects 91, Q4 is 51.Also as far as I could tell (and recall) the dev said nothing except “nothing is set in stone” typical damage control bandaid over the slip up.

I still think september is too early though, no matter what they have predicted. Guess will see at E3 (maybe).

I didn’t mind the long meta event. I’m assuming it is going to cover the map so there will probably be quite a bit more to do once we can access the entirety of Verdant Brink.
- I only found one bug (I think?) myself, and that was that Vinetender and the Vine would respawn after the event was completed. It would be up on it’s pillar with the Pale Reavers shooting at it occasionally even after the event had completed.
General feedback:
- I’m sure it has something to do with how huge the map is, and how much is going on, but I’m hoping there’s some way to increase the optimization. I play GW2 on low to get ~30fps in the base areas, but if I remember correctly it was around 15-20 (sometimes going lower) while in Verdant Brink.
- Masteries were not very well explained. I’m sure this can be fixed with a mini-tutorial/tooltip, but I encountered many people who didn’t know that they had to go and select a mastery, level that up and then they can use their mastery points. It seemed to confuse people quite a bit when they earned a mastery point very early on, but didn’t see any progress from it/couldn’t use it on a mastery line (like how we’re used to with skill points and traits).
- Night events were fairly confusing to me the first time around. Most of the explanations/guidance came from commanders who had done it before (I only got to experience the night events during the 3rd period). Maybe I missed an outpost with explanations over the “rally points”, but I think mentioning that would be a good idea.
- Last, but probably the biggest, thing for me was that the Vinetender event was way too long. I’m hoping the time was extended because of the limited outposts in the Beta, but it really threw me off. All the events leading up to that were amazing, I was excited, and while basic, they were fun (the capture point part of the ruin event was amazing). When we got to Vinetender though, the first few cycles were okay, but I really started wanting it to be over. It wasn’t really challenging, and there didn’t seem to be any sort of signal/sign about progressing through the fight. There were quite a few people in my server who were also questioning when it would end as well. I can’t speak towards the mortar side of the event though, as I didn’t get to experience that.
Other than those things, I had a ton of fun. The outpost system was a huge hit with the people in map chat. I disagree with OP about the event around opening the ruins taking too long. As long as you had snipers taking down the husks it would be over fairly quickly.

Expansion only.
@syviren, the first closed beta in March was the same, in EU was the night from tuesday to wednesday at 20:00ish and at 1:00ish, for 2 hours each.
This time they followed the same scheme, with the adittion of one round more at 4:00ishI expected to be on tuesday night, like the last one.
However i agree with Zackie, the best would be to have 24 hours so any one could test it at their own pace and time. But like has been said: maybe what they want to test is if a determined time, the serveres can handle a determined number of people. So it is understandable that they put specific hours.
The set time is so that Anet employees will be there to gather information/fix things if necessary. This isn’t a “get hyped, it’s almost out!” beta. This is for bug testing.
It is a beta test, not a demo. It is for a select group of people to test for bugs and glitches to help in the development process. This is their first real beta test, the previous stress test was just the demo version. They delivered exactly what they promised.
I feel sorry for those who farmed for hours thinking this was going to be one of those marketing/hype focused betas, but that’s not what it is and they chose those times for a reason.
I would really love to hear opinion from Anet… how it should be, cause wikia says one, and in the game you can see something else :/ I have new theory though my little asura is such a genius it brakes through time and space when it travels around Tyria.
Do remember that the wiki is updated by community members. In fact, the Day/Night cycle research/wiki page was all done by one person.

IIRC buying the seed with laurels was only introduced because of a bug at the time of release.
You don’t need the entirety of season 2, only episodes 3 and 4.

Other bug i found is that i couldn’t apply any mastery points except for in the gliding line and the mushroom one which made it kind of strange.
Not a bug. It specifically said when you hovered over them that they’re “not available for the demo” (or something along those lines).
Not sure if just not ready but beginning video has no sound.
It had sound for me.
Can’t players submit issues within game?
It seems a little too unnecessary to post on forums…. Especially in a collective thread that people will then in the future use are reference to say “Hey there were so many bugs since beta that they haven’t fixed, look here”.
This is part of what the subforum is for.
From the invitation email:
“We also encourage you to provide your feedback on the Heart of Thorns subforum.”
I’ll just keep editing this whenever I find something.
- Tendril Torching challenge interface disappears if disrupted by cinematics (when the vine appears and starts shooting poison from the mountainside). The challenge is still in effect, but I could not see the the information on time/how many tendrils I’ve burnt. Managed to recreate this three times in a row.
- No way to cancel the challenge once you’ve started. You need to wait for the timer to run out. Slightly inconvenient, though not a huge problem.
- The mastery orb on the rock is unable to be used without using a leap skill (like revenant hammer 3) while spamming the F key. Not sure if there is going to be some other way to get this in the non-demo version (ie. being able to glide from somewhere higher).

How does bifrost not fit? Sure, it’s a rainbow, but I don’t think it’s of the same class as the minstrel, quip, dreamer or moot (the “joke” legendaries).
As to OP, yes pleeeeease! I was so excited at the start when I found out that the legendary focus was a harp, at least until I realized it was a chicken harp T-T
There is special dialogue when you return the dowsing rod, one or two lines and the skritt starts spinning around. It is easy to miss though (and may seem like part of her usual dialogue if there’s a somewhat steady stream of epople giving her the dowsing rod).
“I am a storm wizard! I will rally water to sail our ship! (grunt). (Moan) Water has been backlogged.”
