Rewards should be based solely on winning or losing. Any other way and people will find a way to farm it, which just leads to horrible play all around because you end up playing to farm glory, not to win.

Far Shiverpeaks butchers Teakettle every day, usually several times. That said, I have noticed there being less of an overflow, so it’s true that there is less interest.

I would like to see this in a form where each individual player can decide whether or not to “enable” or “disable” it on their own end.
So if you want to see your DPS you can enable it, and it’ll show up for everyone else in the party as well.
However, if you don’t want others to criticize your DPS, then just disable it.
Chances are it won’t impact any on the people who are afraid of people telling them to enable DPS meter or kick, ‘cos those are likely the people who will say “Berserker or kick”, and chances are if you don’t want to show your DPS, you’re not using Berserker gear.
It’s not perfect, but to me this would be better than no DPS meter at all, and the only possible way to test DPS is on the invincible golem in the mist by timing how long it takes you to kill it.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I’ve never had this happen to me, even in groups where I’ve joined solo and there were 3+ ppl of same guild in the group and I criticized their builds/playstyles (guardians running around spamming staff #1 all the run, etc).
I am paranoid, however, so I grab a screenshot at the start of the run so that if I get kicked for no reason I can put them on block list and add nickname “kicked for no reason blahblah”.
But as I said, never actually happened to me yet, so as of now I’ve just been overly paranoid.
I would, however, like to see them fix it so that party chat isn’t completely erased from your log the moment you leave/get kicked from a group.
I want this because of reasons.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Force/force does stack, two force on two weapons will give 10%. Before you criticize me, it is a very easy test in heart of the mists.
Some guy also tested a while ago the same thing with Night, and found that 2x Night also stacks. Why settle for 10% damage increase when you can have 20%? Only downside is you’ll have to either have a seperate set for the few daytime dungeons/fractals, or deal with having no bonus in those.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I don’t expect anything from Guardians in pug groups. Or anyone else, for that matter.
Just finished running a fractal on my Necromancer for the daily (necro is dagger/warhorn + dagger/focus, full zerker), and I got 4 random guardians with me.
Wow, what luck. This should be easy and quick. Nope.
We get both swamp (mossman) and grawl, and not a single WoR or SotA was used.
To top it off, 2 of them were running around spamming Staff #1 pretty much the entire run, and when we got to Maw one of them stood for almost a full minute spamming Scepter #1 against one of the colossi, not realizing they have permanent reflection.

Maybe I didn’t phrase it correctly.
I’m currently running a 10/30/0/20/10 build for all the personal DPS goodies in Zeal and Radiance. The last 30 points that I split in Honor and Virtues are simply due to lack of anything good to put points in. Sure, I could go 30 in Valor for 30% more crit damage, but I rarely use any meditations, and the other traits in Valor are not particularly useful.
Vigorous Precision is just too good to pass up when you’re playing glass cannon. The rest of the traits are also useful, but yeah, there’s just nothing else to take, really.
I still switch up my utilities for various encounters, as I said, but my main focus on the build is to do a lot of damage. I’ve been forced to solo or 2-3man bosses a lot in pugs, and a lot of the time when I drop fire fields/reflects/absorbs, people just run away from it anyway. If I ever find me a solid group to do dungeons/fractals with on a regular basis I’ll switch to hammer build for more group utility and start swapping out a few zerk pieces for knight to toughness tank some bosses, but for pugs it’s just a waste of time.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I’ve been running fractals and pug explorers on my Guardian for a few weeks now, and one thing I’ve learned is that there’s little point in running a utility focused build when you’re running with randoms.
Nobody uses blast finishers in your fire fields, and most of the time the other players will kite the boss out of your symbols/fields/wall of reflect.
I ran a Hammer utility build for a while, but decided to switch back to a full glass cannon DPS build with sword + focus instead.
I still use Wall of Reflection and Shield of the Avenger when appropriate, but my trait build is pretty much for pure personal DPS.
For organized groups in higher fractals, it could definitely be an idea to run with a Hammer utility spec with a few pieces of Knight armor (for aggro on Archdiviner/Ettin, so the rest of your group can wail at them safely). You’ll still do pretty decent DPS.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Wait, Scepter is the highest DPS weapon Guardians have? I’m assuming that’s with Smite being used on every cooldown and every single tick of Smite connecting?
Also, do you have to do anything special to get decent DPS out of Hammer? I feel like it’s doing very low damage with chaining #1, due to the third attack having such a long wind-up time. Is the majority of the Hammer DPS coming from the 3x damage ticks on Symbol of Protection with Writ of Persistance?
Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I’m genuinely confused about this, and I like to have as much information about the class I’m playing as possible.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I’ve got both Guardian and Warrior at lvl 80 in full Berserker exotics and DPS builds.
My Warrior is running 20/25/0/10/15 with Greatsword & Axe+Mace and my Guardian is running 10/30/0/10/20 with Sword+Focus & Greatsword. Both are running 6x Scholar runes.
Now, I keep reading people who are crunching numbers saying that Guardians can pull off more DPS than Warriors, but I’m not seeing it.
I’m not saying I’m doing bad DPS on my Guardian, but the highest I’ve done so far with Whirling Wrath/Zealot’s Defense is ~20-24k, whereas I’ve done over 30k Hundred Blades on my Warrior.
So my question is, is the notion that Guardians can deal more damage than Warriors in PvE false, or am I just falling for an optical illusion that is Hundred Blades crits?
Don’t get me wrong, I love playing my Guardian, and there are other areas where Guardians blow Warriors out of the water in PvE (projectile defense, for instance), but the impression I got from many of the posts in this forum was that Guardian’s personal DPS was higher than Warriors these days.

I love all 3 of my lvl 80 characters. Necromancer, Warrior and Guardian.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
What I’d love to see is some new Elite Skills for Guardians.
It’s obvious they aren’t going to completely rework the books, and Renewed Focus is pretty good as it is already. The changes OP suggested would make it way too strong, so that won’t ever happen.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Tier 1: Warriors, Guardians, Rangers, Mesmer, Thieves, Ele, Engineer
Tier 2: Necro
That’s weird, because I can’t remember the last time I caught any flak for being Necro, and I generally do 4-5 EXP dungeons a day on my Necro.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I really wanted to run dual wield when I started my warrior on launch day, but I quickly realized that swords were garbage and while axes and mace offhand are pretty decent, I still couldn’t go proper dual wield warrior.
If they ever change swords to be viable, I’ll go sword/sword + axe/mace in a heartbeat, but as it stands now, it’s just so much better to play greatsword + axe/mace.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
They could have a tuned down version with worse rewards in the open world and keep teqatl as is in the instance.
Again, that would exclude those people from the content, or force them to join a large guild.
A lot of people who play GW2 play it because it doesn’t have dumb reward tiers that force you to do big raids to get the coolest stuff (IE every other MMORPG out there).
I’m in a small guild, and I like my guild a lot. I don’t want to be forced to join a bigger guild just to have access to some content.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I’m all for challenging new content. Problem is, I don’t want to see said content in the form of a open world zergfest boss where there are way too many variables that can screw you over.
AFK/non-participating players taking up zone slots, players who have no idea what they’re doing, lazy players who refuse to respawn at waypoint and run back when they’re dead (dead, not downed), trolls who occupy Hylek Cannons and doesn’t do anything with them, etc.
As it stands players downing to waves causes a massive drop in damage dealt as other players who managed to avoid the damage are then having to revive the downed players. It has a far larger effect than you initially think.
In addition to this, it seems that a LOT of the players manning the cannons are either not capable of removing clouds effectively, or players don’t kill the tentacles before there’s so many around that they blanket the entire area with clouds.
It’s almost impossible to revive downed players when they’re downed in a poison cloud.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
That would pretty much exclude anyone who doesn’t play in a large guild from doing this content. I’d rather they just make it so that people can actually kill him. As of right now, he has either a) too much HP, or b) too short timer.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
For this guy? Nope. Even 30 minutes won’t guarantee victory.
You misunderstand. 30 minutes is too long for a boss fight. Period. It’s not fun sitting for 30 min wailing at a health bar, no matter how many cool and new mechanics you throw into the mix.

I’m usually one to enjoy “challenging” content, but SAB isn’t designed to be challenging. It’s designed to be a brick wall to slam your head against after being forced to buy infinite coin if you want to get past world 1 zone 1.
Whoever designed this is a complete kitten . Seriously. Instant-death traps that you can only avoid if you already know EXACTLY where they are, because the moment you actually see them it’s already too late. Instant death.
And don’t get me started on the many MANY jumps where if you’re off by even 1 millimeter you die instantly (such as the jumping boulder at the first lava field in W1 Z2, checkpoint 1).
I don’t want to have to choose between fun and the possibility of eventually obtaining some cool special event weapon skins.
As it stands now, obtaining the SAB skins is not fun. It’s not a game. It’s a chore. An incredibly mind-numbing chore.
I hope someone at ANET reads this and forwards it to whoever is in charge of designing these things, and hopefully future content won’t be so anti-fun.
PS: I’m talking about Trib mode here. Normal mode was actually quite fun. Trib is just complete BS.

I’ve been away from GW2 since last years halloween event, and gonna start playing again.
I mostly enjoy running dungeons, although I will probably do some PvP as well.
Got lvl 80 Necromancer and Warrior, and planning on leveling a Guardian up as well (although I’ll mostly be playing my Necromancer).
I’m Norwegian, so it would have to be a EU guild (English speaking, ofc).
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Thanks. Decided to go for the full Rascal set to transmute, and transmuted the mechanical monocles I started with as my headgear.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I recommend rascal armour, it’s crafted and could be bought dirt cheap just for the skins. I actually like it better than any other armour, so I even transmuted my lvl 80 exotics into it
Thanks for the tip, will check it out.
@Faction – If you’re going to show off your armor, then at least say what armor it is, else you’re about as helpful as a bucket of salt in the Sahara Desert.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I still need 5 more Arah exp runs for my full armor set, so if anyone wants to go you can PM me in game.
PS: I’m on EU servers, and only interested in doing Arah exp with people who know tactics. Full exotic geared, ofc.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I recently started leveling my engineer towards lvl 80, after leveling warrior and necro to 80. I’m a fairly vain person when it comes to my characters, so I’m in need of a cool looking coat-based armor set to transmute my armor into until I reach lvl 80 and can get the Orr karma set (the one that looks like the one human/norn wear in the engineer character creation).
Can anyone recommend a set? Preferably crafted and reasonably prices on the TP, as I’m not filthy rich, so I can’t really afford to buy lvl 80 exotic stuff just for the skins.

Daggers:
Fixed a bug that causes most Dagger skills to have longer range than originally intended, which gave Necromancers an unfair advantage.
All dagger skills are now 130 range, as intended.
DISCLAIMER: I personally think Necros are in a decent position right now, although I do wish we could get some of the many bugs fixed, and some actual pet AI. Funny thread, though, so figured I’d chip in.

I’ve been using the “<” key as my elite skill hotkey since launch, and yesterday, out of nowhere, the game started to think that “<” is “|” (a.k.a weapon swap hotkey).
At first I thought I had accidentally triggered the hotkey to change key layout from Norwegian to English, but none of the other keys are affected, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Anyone know what caused this?
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
What I find interesting about Oreo’s build is that it’s supposedly a “bunker build”, but it uses Berserker amulet and Lich elite.
I also find it interesting that all the “proof” of it being viable are screenshots from 8v8 games where he has a high score, which doesn’t really prove anything other than that it is effective for farming Glory with in the mindless zergfest that is 8v8 sPvP.
I doubt this build would be effective in tPvP as a bunker, and for other roles there are better specs.
Here are some screens from tournament games I’ve played with my current D/D Power spec:
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Sorry to break it to you OP, but if you were 5 friends who couldn’t clear all modes within reasonable time, then it’s because you’re not very good. The only encounter in any of the 3 paths that is remotely difficult is Simin in Seer path (due to bugs), but with a non-PuG group even that fight is fairly simple, even if the boss does bug and give you an extra orb and heal to full.
As long as you don’t fail and die (read: don’t know how to use tears) then you should be able to get her down even after she gets back to full HP after a bugged orb spawn.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I play Power D/D spec in tPvP and I can kill pretty much anyone 1v1, and in my team I play as a sort of reaver type, going where I’m needed and burning down priority targets.
My full combo on 1 target with high toughness (1800+ toughness) is ~18k over ~7 seconds, during which my target will be blinded, immobilized (4 sec) and knocked down (2 seconds), if I do it right, which leaves very little room for them to escape.
Also, despite being somewhat of a glass cannon build (less than 1000 toughness) I can survive multiple players beating on me for quite a while with clever use of DS.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I like our DS as is, apart from #1 doing a little underwhelming damage after the 5 sec of fury wears off. Whether that’s because of the long cast time, or scaling, I don’t know.
I’m playing with a slight mix of stats in PvE, with berserker jewelry and knight armor + weapons for ~70% crit damage, 52% crit chance and just over 2000 Power, and I hit with Life Blast anywhere between 2000-6000 (depending on crits/non-crits & vulnerability stacks).
There have been higher numbers for me, but that’s with either a lot of might stacks from other party members or on targets that have some mechanic that make them take more damage (such as the crystal entities in Arah Jotun path).
One thing I’ve noticed when grouping with other Necromancers is that they don’t seem to realize just how versatile DS is. In some cases you can use it offensively for more damage (either by stacking vulnerability or by just popping in for 5 sec and bursting with the fury buff), and other times you can use it for the extra HP bar.
For instance, on Lupicus in Arah I pretty much only use DS defensively in phase 2 and 3, unless I also have other cooldowns to fall back on in emergencies, but in phase 1 I use it to blast away for extra burst + vulnerability stacking.
For the most part, however, I just cycle in DS between my weapon swap cycles in my Dagger/Dagger + Axe/Dagger power PvE spec for the fury buff and 3x Life Blast or 1x Life Transfer, then back out. For the most part I stay at 80-100%, and if I get focused hard or mess up, I have an extra health bar to fall back on.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Played a tournament match against a mesmer named “Phantasmal Duelist”. Said Mesmer was playing with sword + pistol, so he was also spawning Phantasmal Duelists.
My reaction was “You cheeky little git”.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I laugh every time I see people looking for <class X> for a dungeon. It’s all about the specs. That’s pretty much a heads up to me to avoid those groups, because they’re usually bads.
You can have 5 warriors with different utility/weapon specs and do very well in explorables, or you can have 5 GS warriors with 5x signets and wipe endlessly.
Hell, if said 5 GS warriors are very good even that might work.
As for levels, I pretty much only run Arah exp, so they all have to be lvl 80 anyway.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Effects that increase all damage like http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil_of_Force also increase condition damage
You sure about that? Reason I’m asking is that everywhere I read people are saying that +% damage effects (such as our Closer To Death trait) doesn’t affect condition damage. That’s one of the main reasons why I don’t play a condition build.
That, and it just seems like power builds in general do way more damage, even over a long duration.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I find Necromancer to be the most enjoyable for both PvP (tournaments) and PvE (explorer dungeons).
I’ve played most of the classes to lvl 20+ either during the beta or after release. Also played every class in sPvP.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
It’s difficult enough to find 4 other people who aren’t terrible at this game to do explorable modes with. I’d prefer not having to find even more.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Grats. I’ve 1shotted him many times with 3-4 man (mesmer taking a visit to the grand city of teleportasia, one guy in my usual group likes to go AFK at bad times, DCs etc). Giganticus really isn’t a big deal, and it’s getting boring when 1/5th of every thread is about giganticus.
My apologies if this comes off as harsh or mean, but this whole giganticus thing is really getting old and stale.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Well, as for the “necro has the coolest gear”, it’s the same gear as every other light armor profession has available.
I personally don’t get beat 1v1 in sPvP (or WvW the few times I do it for monthly WvW kills). Played a lot of tournament games, and I beat mesmers 1v1, guardians 1v1, thieves 1v1, HB warriors 1v1. The only ones I have a problem with are tanky CC builds such as hammer warriors, but only if they know what they’re doing (and what I’m doing).
I’ve got over 200 hours played on my warrior, a lot of which is spent in the mist doing PvP, and I personally prefer playing necro over a warrior.
PS: I play d/d power necro in sPvP (and sometimes tanky condition necro, if my team is lacking a node defender). In PvE (explorer dungeons mostly) I also play d/d power necro (with axe + focus offhand for when I can’t be melee).
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Man, this was just sad to watch.
What’s more sad is that a lot of people in this thread seem to think that this was a high skill level game.
I don’t really see any point in arguing about profession balance based on a video with a bunch of bad players playing vs each others (even if one of those bad players is JP from ANET).
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I don’t like condition damage spec for a variety of reasons (PvE):
- Condition damage from multiple sources (players) don’t stack well, and if there’s more than 1 heavily condition damage specced player around, you’ll end up hitting the 25stack cap quickly and doing way less damage than you should.
- Condition builds are horrible vs objects.
- The best condition damage stats combo (Toughness + Precision + Condition Damage) is impossible to get on jewelry in PvE, and for armor and weapons you need to farm explorer mode dungeons to get those stat combos. Also since not every dungeon has those stats available, if you don’t like the look of those sets, you’ll have to farm double to get the set you like the look of + the set with the stats for transmutations.
- +% damage doesn’t work with condition damage. That means the grandmaster Spite trait that gives us +20% damage vs enemies below 50% HP does nothing for condition damage. Neither does the Potions of X Slaying (where X is whichever dungeon you’re doing, Undead for Arah, for instance), which gives +10% damage done vs X, and -10% damage taken from X. So condition builds only receives the -10% damage taken, not the extra damage done.
It’s a shame, really, because I happen to like the condition damage necro as a concept, but there are just too much kitten in the design, that I feel like I’m forced to play power necro in PvE.
Also doesn’t really help for condition necro that power necro builds up vulnerability stacks a lot faster, which is amazing in explorer dungeons.
I do however play a tanky condition spec in sPvP, which works fairly well for the most part.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Tried the build posted in the OP in a few Arah Explorer runs, and it felt like it was only good in the few cases where I didn’t take any damage. When I did take damage, I got instantly popped out of DS and lost all the life force, messed up the rotation.
Seeing as how some mobs will just randomly fixate on you the entire fight, that’s a pretty big downside for me.
Also, I’m not sure why, but I just really dislike the staff as a weapon for a power build.
I use it on my sPvP condition build, but I think as power I’d prefer dual daggers & axe+focus.
Now I’m doing a modified version of your 20/25/0/0/25 build with a mix of berserker and knight items for ~65% crit damage (basically running full knight armor + weapons with berserker accessories).
For the times when mobs/bosses do fixate on me it’s very nice to have a bit of toughness. Also very nice to have toughness on Giganticus, because for some reason he likes to send most of his missiles + shadow steps on me.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
First boss in Mursaat path likes to instagib people without any obvious mechanic (at least not any that I’ve been able to see after killing it almost a dozen times). I know it does that lightning orb thing which leaves a red circle on the ground right before it hits, but sometimes I just die instantly, no red circle anywhere near me.
Could just be all the effects flying around, as it’s sometimes difficult to tell with my groups mesmer throwing down chaos storm, the elementalist throwing around ground AoE as well, and all the smoke and flames in the room. /shrug
Other than that, I can’t think of anything that has instagibed me without any proper warning.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I’ve killed giganticus dozens of times, never knew you could kite him back to waypoint… Don’t see why anyone would want to do it that way, either. I guess if you’re too bad to actually learn how the encounter works…
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Doors already exist, such as Alphrad in Mursaat path of Arah exploration.
That door doesn’t prevent you from entering after the encounter starts. It just takes an extra 5 seconds to get in there.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
Interesting build. Gonna try it out, as it doesn’t have the most glaring problem that my current power build has, which is range vs some bosses (currently playing d/d & axe/focus, which can be quite limiting on bosses where close range is suicide).
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I agree completely, I hope they’ll do a dungeon rework in the near future to add doors that close when you start a boss, and a waypoint very close if you do wipe.
The long waypoints don’t really affect me when I’m doing explorables with my usual group, but it’s kind of annoying when PUGing.
Minister of Fear [80 Necromancer] @Far Shiverpeaks EU
I really love the design of Simin, but it’s obvious that the boss hasn’t been tested properly, as it’s buggy as all hells. Once they fix the bugs she may become one of my favourites.
