[MISSION Impossible] Siege Commander's Spoon

in WvW

Shukriyya.7629

For those who are still getting them, do you have the spoon collection unlocked? They seem to turn into broken spoon drops once that collection requirement is either met or the collection is completed, not sure which.

As I pointed out, https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Broken_Spoon it clearly states that the broken spoon replaces some others, such as siege commander’s spoon, after getting that spoon for the collection.

Yeah, once you complete the collection, you’ll only get broken spoons instead of the siege commander, fractal and teq spoon. Rip my siege commander spoon collection. :’(

Just keep doing what you’ve been doing, Dofty. In my experience, the spoons drop more often when roaming. They only drop from veterans and champions, by the way, so you can spare the quartermasters if they aren’t in your way. I once got a spoon from one of the sharks in bay – it was a glorious day.

Good luck, I hope you’ll get your spoon soon!

Identities of Linked Worlds

Shukriyya.7629

2. What, if anything, would you change about any of the current proposals?

I would change option 1. Instead of their being random names from a pool, when links are formed give them a name derived from the linked servers names:
EG: Maguuma Terrace, Aspenwood Sanctum, Stormbluff Madness, Bay of Sorrows, Yak’s Anvil, Shiverpeak’s Furnace, Kaineng Brand Pass, Isle of Ferguson’s Henge, Devona’s Crystal Haven.

Granted it’s a little tricker with 3-4 servers linked, but it acknowledges everyone, without the loss of identity, both to the team and the enemy. Keep it for the length of the linking.

This. Option 1 would be my preferred option, but only if the alliance names contain parts of our server names.

I’d also be fine with abbreviations like apharma mentioned above. You could explain the abbreviations on the score/borderland selection tab by showing the full names when one hovers on the names, similar to what we have now.

If neither of those options are possible, my vote goes to solution 3. That way guest servers would at least get credit for their work sometimes.

Solution 2 is unacceptable to me. It doesn’t foster allegiance to your team when instead of having a name you get assigned a colour that could possibly change weekly.

@ McKenna, It’s clear you’ve been reading these forums, and tried to really take on board the ideas discussed. I can’t speak for everyone else, but I appreciate your efforts to make wvw fun again

But having to run around in a blob with 40 other people for 6 hours is just mind-numbing.

You don’t have to run with a blob. You can do stuff on your own or run around with a small group of people. Who knows, maybe you’ll even have fun doing that.

It’s not at all uncommon for this to not drop roaming solo or small group. I do that all the time and rarely get spoons, just because you kill fewer guards than zerging an undefended keep in a few seconds or etc.

Actually, it’s the other way around. You are way more likely to get it if you’re solo or in a small group, just because you’ll actually be the one killing the guards. When you’re in a zerg, you’re lucky if you can get a hit in before the guards are dead.

Gift of battle

in WvW

Shukriyya.7629

Just used one of those potions and it did not advance the track or grant any WvW experience.

It doesn’t grant WvW experience — it awards progress to the reward track.
--————————————————

  • You get one potion for the daily of Big Spender.
  • It takes 80 potions to complete a reward track.
  • Big Spender appears roughly 3-4x/month.

Thus, “earning” the Gift of Battle solely using Big Spender would take ~20-27 months. I think it’s unrealistic to expect that most people will want to use that method.

Big Spender doesn’t appear 3-4x/month, it’s one of the dailies pretty much every day.

Yes, it was in the notes, under World v World, not a PvE change.

It’s an item bought in wvw with wvw currency, of course changes to it would be in the wvw section of the patch notes.

It’s called Silverwastes reward track – you can activate it in the reward tracks section of the wvw panel. The Champion Mordrem Troll Cache in the middle of the reward track is the one containing the shovels.

Don’t worry about having wasted luck, it’s very easy to get the amount needed. Just make sure you upgrade all the luck you get from salvaging to exotic (with the artificing profession) – you’ll be there in no time!

If you play on a European server, feel free to whisper me or send me an in-game mail when you have a date for your capture mission, I’m happy to help out if I can.

WvW Guild +5 supply buff

in WvW

Posted by: Shukriyya.7629

Shukriyya.7629

Now that the +5 buff is the first aura, it’s definitely possible even for small guilds to get it back. As others have already said, you’ll need some volunteers for the capture mission – aim for doing the mission with 5-9 players. They don’t have to join your guild, by the way, they only need to be in your squad when you start the mission. You can look for volunteers on the forums, in lfg or mapchat.

For the favor, set your guild missions preference to pve only, because some pve missions can be done with 1-2 players (easy trek, if you have a character with world completion) or with other guilds (all races, easy bounty) or even randoms (easy bounty).

The most annoying part will be getting the 50 shovels for the mine 1 upgrade – you’ll have to grind Silverwastes for a while, but at least you’ll get lots of luck that you can use for the +5 upgrade at the same time (you’ll need 77 exotic luck for that upgrade). You can also get a tiny amount of shovels (3 I think) from the Silverwastes wvw reward track.

The guild catapult upgrade will be unlocked automatically because you already had the upgrade in the old system. However, in order to make guild catas you’d have to level the scribe profession (or buy them with guild commendations, but you’d need the market and the guild trader upgrade for that). Guild catas cost 40 supply now if I’m not mistaken.

Upgrading the guild hall will take an insane amount of elder wood and mithril, by the way. Be prepared to chop billions of trees! Good luck!

Don’t bother. Especially since they’ve done it once, they’ll do it again. Do you really want to re-grind your 5-supply buff for the third time when the next expansion comes?

I don’t think they’d do this. Upgrading the guild hall is very expensive, so there would be a huge outrage if they dared to take our upgrades away again. Even the big guilds would mind this time!

Removed crafting stations and vendors.

in WvW

Posted by: Shukriyya.7629

Shukriyya.7629

Let’s not even talk about WvW.

There’s a reason why there’s no crafting stations in HoT maps or in dungeons/fractals/raids and I’ve never seen requests for them. Can you imagine what it’d be like if people stopped in the middle of a fractal run “BRB need to craft, we’ll be 4% more effective after 15 minutes!”. You’d be booted, and for good reason.

What about people that are in a full map for Dragon’s Stand? Would it be cool if they just went in that crafting? What if I go into these things and halfway through I realized I didn’t bring my best food? I deal with it, and get prepared next time like anyone else who actually cares about using the best stuff. If you actually cared about optimizing the run with overpriced crap like Gnashblade and Bountiful Sharpening Stones, you’d also properly manage your inventory too. As for feasts, well, if I don’t have one, I just summon a trader and buy it right away.

This kind of behavior isn’t acceptable anywhere else. Why would it be acceptable in WvW?

The difference is that wvw has downtimes when there’s nothing to do. When the enemy guild groups stopped raiding and there were enough other scouts or roamers around to keep enemy roamers in check, it was perfectly acceptable to get your crafting done. And yes, that also meant that you were still on the map and would have been able to help if an enemy server decided to rush one of your keeps.

I guess the removal also means that I will no longer find myself accidentally playing a couple of hours of wvw on a Sunday afternoon when my intentions were only to do some quick crafting before preparing a meal – which might be good for me but not that good for my server.

Now I don’t know if you ever have any downtimes in tier 1, but my tier certainly does. It seems to me that the change might be good for T1, but it’s not beneficial for the lower tiers.

Your top 5 priorities for WvW-Overhaul

in WvW

Posted by: Shukriyya.7629

Shukriyya.7629

Didn’t have time to read everything, will get back to that later. Here’s my thoughts:

- Bring back the old borderland map and go back to the old upgrade system. Maps shouldn’t be playing themselves when no one is there – it makes playing defense pointless. There’s less of an incentive to defend a keep when you can just flip it back after the enemy zerg is gone and still have your waypoint. So that means that automatic upgrades kill scouting and defending (for me, anyway). Also, every server needs to be able to build a waypoint in every keep.

- No shrines/traps on normal wvw maps. I don’t care if you keep them in EotM as it’s a pve map anyway.

- Give small guilds a reasonable way to get their +5 back – e.g. by scaling guild hall capture and upgrade costs to roster size. Introduce smaller guild hall maps for this new system, so that the huge maps are only available to guilds who pay full price. I vote for the secret cat/quaggan cave from DBL as the map for the smallest guild hall.

- Introduce a wvw reward track similar to the pvp one.

- Skill balance. Despite the name, elite specs shouldn’t be superior to the other specs. Feels like p2w at the moment.

- Get rid of the resource node generators. Having entire maps without trees, plants and ore makes them lifeless. Instead, introduce a wider variety of possible nodes to spawn on the maps.

- Bring back siege commander spoons!

Since people love Friday, but we might do a build on Friday, we need to talk about exactly what time of day would be good for the community, and then adjust based on that.

Shared Inventory Slot Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This actually seems a bit too cheap to me, since 1 copper fed + 1 slot == one copper fed for each character, at a lower price then buying just two copper fed’s.

There was never a reason to buy a second copper-fed salvage kit. You could always move it between characters for free by using the bank in either the pvp lobby or in wvw.

I would have wanted a shared bag slot. There are too many things I’d want to share between characters (siege, food, tonics and toys*, etc.), so five single slots are nowhere near enough. I guess that means I’m lucky because I won’t have to buy those overpriced slots.

January 26th Update: Your feedback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shukriyya.7629

Shukriyya.7629

Some buddies and I were doing jump puzzles in Tyria and I was frustrated because my glider kept popping out if I held the spacebar for too long and it made me miss some tight jumps. I would appreciate if the glider was changed to double-tapping the glide key and not just holding it down, since some jumps the game requires you to make are sensitive to how long you hold down the spacebar.

I would prefer it if we could bind gliding to a different key. That way there would be no accidental gliding while jumping at all.

It would also mean that I wouldn’t ever have to glide in core Tyria. I’m the odd one out, I don’t like gliding!

I liked the following changes introduced by the patch:

  • The fractal scale can now be set inside Mistlock Observatory by interacting with the control panel near the entrance. (In theory, anyway. Due to the lfg bug it’s even more annoying to start the next fractal when a player leaves your party at the moment. We need this fixed asap, anet!)
  • Increased the deactivation timer on the Reflecting Crystals in the Solid Ocean fractal from 1 minute to 5 minutes. (Finally I can stop refreshing them! \o/)

I haven’t had a chance to look at the new Shatterer fight yet, but I’m looking forward to that.

Some of the wvw changes go in the right direction (e.g. cata supply cost reduction) but I can’t really comment on that as I hardly ever play what used to be my favourite play mode nowadays after it was ruined by HoT. I’m disappointed you still haven’t changed reset back to Friday, which is what most players prefer over a Saturday reset. By the way, an update on whether you’ve looked at your metrics would be nice. You should also consider bringing back the Alpine borderlands, as, again, this is what players prefer.

The Canthan New Year festival used to be one of my favourites in GW1. Unfortunately the GW2 version is boring. I’d really like to see celestial minis make a return (to be earned in-game, not to be bought on the gemstore). The celestial ox mini is still one my favourites, after all those years.

It’s even worse than that. The members of my party have been unable to enter our party into the lfg tool – it doesn’t matter if we’re still in Lion’s Arch or if we’re in the instance already. The only way to get more people for your party at the moment is for one person to leave and list the party in the lfg tool and the others to join afterwards.

So that means that whenever someone leaves your party you have to go back to Lion’s Arch and one person needs to leave the party to list it in lfg. Please fix this asap, anet! It really is a pain having to go through this every couple of minutes.

I will ask to be certain I give you the best answer. Thanks for the question.

Hi Gaile, thanks for this info, it’s a huge relief for me and anyone else trying to complete the Winter’s Presence shoulders. However, I do have a few questions that I would like to ask, and hope you have the answers to.

  • Will the candy cane achievement be given similar treatment? It’s not required for the shoulders, but it’s still one that is on a similar progression scale as Festive Imbiber.
  • Will FI and the candy cane achievement progress the Wintersday meta after Jan 12? This is mainly a curiosity thing, am interested to know if the meta achieve will be locked after Jan 12 is over, even though anyone that really wants the meta won’t need it.
  • Will FI and the candy cane achievement’s progress carry to next Wintersday, similar to the Grawnk ones did from last year? Just another curiosity deal.

I will see what I can learn about these questions, as well. Thank you, Kamui.

Any news, Gaile?

Proof of Heroics: Soulbound, really?

in WvW

Posted by: Shukriyya.7629

Shukriyya.7629

As I’ve said before, Hero Challenges are not analogous to Notaries. Wxp is account bound, and it makes no sense to fit it in a soulbound system.

You could play 95% of a level on a character, and 5% on another character of which the chest is acquired through rank up, thus defeating the purpose of “playing a character to progress them”

Furthermore, WvW isn’t really the place to walk around willy nilly trying to “progress” a character the same way uplevels don’t have a good time either, though not as severe. But basically, outside of EOTM, progression isn’t exactly a priority in WvW, nor is it really supported much either. This is because World vs World is about a war between people from different servers, as opposed to the cooperative nature of Open World PvE which is meant to grow your character and teach you how the mechanics work.

Frankly, given the random nature of the heroics, I just hope people realize what a low priority people who are aiming for these things care about individual character exploration and progression. When you explore the world in PvE, you’re not just getting hero points in a vacuum. Map compleition is an inevitable effect of doing it, and comes with its own set of rewards per character that go beyond hero points, which is why it makes sense to make map completion per character.

Finally, hero points in PvE become progressively easier to get thanks to the existence of masteries. WvW masteries do not help anywhere near that same extent, excluding the now-defunct guard stacks.

Personally, I am unlocking things at a decent rate, but I think it really wouldn’t hurt to have them account bound— even if they were, running down to VB would still be speedier IMO. Though I do think a part of the issue is the perception that the elite specs are superior to the baseline ones, thanks to the extremely wonky class design atm that makes the issue much worse than it should be and increasing the frustration of any given grind. Essentially, people are pressured to feel that they need certain things or they’ll be a liability to their team, whereas in PvE nobody really cares about that unless it’s a fractal or a raid.

Well said!

The proof of heroics bug fix was the one bug fix we didn’t need.

To Those Who Think They Want A Megaserver

in WvW

Posted by: Shukriyya.7629

Shukriyya.7629

I disagree. Server communities is what has kept people playing a reward-less game for the past three years. It’s only with the advent of the new map and the pve mechanics on those maps that WvW has completely sputtered out.

The problem with megaserver is that there is no brand loyalty. Your conclusion that new communities will emerge from it is specious if you look at how the mechanics will work.

First off, if you’re not in a big guild, you likely will have a randomized map. If you do defense at all for your server, you will know that the bulk of those defenders come from small or solo guilds.

Big guilds tend to want to run together, so they are not going to separate one or two members to scout and watch the maps. They just won’t.

And how many guilds do you know of that strictly do defense 24/7 in WvW? And how big are those guilds? Not likely very big.

And if those smaller solo/guilds are randomized into different matches, there’s no creation of team — the backbone of WvW will disappear simply because people won’t respond to scout call outs because they don’t know and trust that scout. Scouts will stop doing the most unrewarding task on map because their efforts are being ignored.

With no scouts, and no defenders, the map will consist of attack forces only. With nobody defending the keeps or towers, and only attack on the map, the map will ultimately morph into a pve-champ train map — all aboard the ktrain.

For those of us who have played this game, and loved this game mode, for the past three years — and honestly with the sheer lack of rewards in WvW and STILL it drew a loyal following is indication of people’s passion for this game. And all of that relied on a sense of community.

It didn’t happen because of guilds and their alliances. It happened because of a common purpose/server pride/goals that brought all those different guilds and single players together.

Take away that, and you’ll see WvW turn into a giant pve ktrain. Which will empty the next time a big update/shiny is announced.

Well said! I agree completely.

Small Guilds, stop complaining about GHls

Posted by: Shukriyya.7629

Shukriyya.7629

I didn’t read through this thread, just skimmed through it, so I’m not sure if this was brought up here or another thread, I had a suggestion for that. Maybe guild hall upgrades can be scaled with however many members for the cost, and if the guild grows, the upgrades will be closed off and you’ll have to dump in more gold/materials before its accessesable again.

Seems like a very easy thing to exploit.

Just off the top of my head; assume the guild has the member cap of 500. Their costs are therefore massive. The GM organizes a second guild which will only ever have the smallest number of people in it (say, five). Guild members send money and resources to those five people, they build their guild hall for a fraction of the cost, and once it’s finished the entire guild transfers into the new, fully upgraded guild.

How would this be easy to exploit when, as the poster stated, if the guild grows, the upgrades will be closed off and you’ll have to dump in more gold/materials before its accessesable again? Do you think big guilds want cheap halls without any functions?

And that’s what I’ve been saying about suggestions like this, it’s the most unfair thing EVER, far worse than the current system. If a tier 1 guild has 50 people cap and tier 2 has a 100 people cap, those first 50 people would have to pay the costs of 100 people to increase their tier to tier 2! Effectively those 50 people will pay DOUBLE the price!

But it’s totally fair for 10 people to pay as much as 500? Right.

To the people who complain about small guilds wanting the big halls for cheap: We’d gladly take smaller halls that are cheaper to upgrade, but it’s even more unlikely that anet will spend resources on making new maps for us than it is that they reduce the costs of upgrades and/or introduce tiers. So that’s why our focus is on arguing for the introduction of guild hall tiers.

Honestly, we don’t need big pools, we just want to be given the opportunity to earn our upgrades back (as ridiculous as it is that we even need to do that) without having to spend the next year farming materials instead of playing the game.

PVP Nameplate Icons, Show Player Names [OFF]

Yeah, we really need the ability to turn those off. I don’t play pvp, these tags are useless visual clutter to me. I don’t want to turn off player names – like Vavume, I wouldn’t recognise anyone any more and also because I enjoy seeing random character names that make me chuckle.

[Suggestion] Spoons at the Merchant

From what I understand now, the broken spoon simply replaces the relevant spoon as a drop if you’ve already acquired it.

This makes me sad. Rip my spoon collections. :’(

I hope you’ll get your spoon soon, Keneth.

LFG Tool - we need more categories! [Merged]

Supported, as always. Because I’m lazy, I copied my suggestion on what should be changed from another thread:

The most important thing for me would be to be able to only see the groups from all versions of the map I am currently on. I’d prefer it if that was the default view when I open the lfg tool.

Let’s say I want to do the Tequatl event. I’ll waypoint into the map – if it’s a lively one with enough people and some commanders I’ll stay and help get more people in. If it’s rather empty, I’ll use the lfg tool to find a better map. So this is how I use the lfg tool: I usually know what I want to do and am already on the map I want to be on, I just need to find a more organised version of it.

Most of the vanilla GW2 maps don’t need their own category imo. It would nice to have a separate category for farm maps like Dry Top and Silverwastes, but the rest could go into one general category. The new HoT maps should all have their own category.

So, basically, my suggestion would be:

Open World

  • Central Tyria
    – General
    – Dry Top
    – Silverwastes
  • HoT
    – Verdant Brink
    – Auric Basin
    – Tangled Depths
    – Dragon’s Stand

I like the first one best (with the exception of the loop shoulder – I’d get rid of that!).

Any way to reset the chat window?

IFor example, with the recreated chat tabs I get to be frustrated by an ‘M’ or a ‘G’ (for /map and /guild) for example next to the chat message — like it’s not obvious enough with a different colour.

I don’t know if there’s a way to reset the chat window, but you can get rid of those tags by clicking the gear at the top left of your chat window and deselecting “show channel tag”.

I have only one question. How many members can be considered a small guild in your opinion?

As you only need 1 person to start a guild, one-person guilds are valid guilds, too, in my opinion. As for scaling – which is probably the more interesting question here – I think the following structure (which had been suggested by others before in other threads) would be good:

Tier I: up to 25 members
Tier II: up to 50 members
Tier III: up to 100 members
Tier IV: up to 250 members
Tier V: up to 500 members

Bonus points for anet if they add different guild halls/maps per tier – small halls for small guilds, bigger halls for bigger guilds. This would also mean that you will have a more impressive guild hall the bigger your guild is, which might be important to some people.

In this system, small guilds with only a few members get a choice between farming the materials among themselves or expanding in order to lighten the burden placed on every member of the guild – just like in the current system. It does make a difference after all whether you have e.g. 5 people contributing or 25.

The difference to the old system is that due to the lower costs the upgrades would be achievable by small guilds as well without the members spending the next couple of years grinding materials.

I’m fully aware of that. I chose to take the risk. But the dev post says “30 days since the last post” and this thread had the last post 29 days before mine, so it should be fine!
