These threads about removing wvw from world completion are like T2 zergs in T3 – never ending and multiplying!
Well it’s the logical thing to do. Want to keep everyone happy? Add more categories. World Completion. World Versus World Completion. Maguuma Completion (in HoT). That way everyone can win, and a gift can be obtained from each. I don’t care about the gift. I’m just obsessive about it being 100% finished on every character I make, which is why I stopped making new characters until they remove WvW. No need to mix PVE and PVP like that for people that dislike one or the other.
I mean come on. It’s not even technically IN the world. I’ve done world completion twice, but WvW is what stops me from going for it anymore. It’s far too troublesome, and I know I’m not the only one that ends up waiting weeks for their servers to rotate, and even then it’s a nightmare.
Why not remove WvW and add in Southsun Cove, Dry Top, and Silverwastes? It just seems silly that some privately instanced pvp battleground is counted, but three legitimate zones that ACTUALLY exist in the world on the map don’t even count just because they were added in later.
I can’t believe they’re making it so limited that most normal players can’t even buy them. I can’t farm that kind of gold in 24 hours and I don’t get paid until Thursday. I had a perfect outfit picked out and I was looking forward to them. I shut the game down for the day, and I think my cash spending on this game has come to an end. Good job.
Are you referring to those crates in khylo when you say “Hundred Blades wrecks everything in site”? Because everything else would have moved out of your way before you got to wreck anything with it.
Yeah, I know, you can set up with immobilize or a knockdown, but those skills can be avoided(or cleansed/stab if they hit), and even if you do manage to miraculously get someone into a full duration HB the damage is really only enough to kill a squishy.
I’m so sorry. I meant to say PVE, not PVP. What a mistake to make. I don’t PVP, but in terms of general PVE (not dungeons, don’t do those either) I destroy with my Warrior. most enemies are too stupid to get out of the way of Hundred Blades.
I played a Warrior from launch onward, quit around the Escape from Lion’s Arch, came back a few weeks ago because of the expansion.
I don’t notice any nerfs when doing general PVE. Honestly it still feels more powerful than my other characters. Hundred Blades still wrecks everything in sight and I can take an absurd amount of damage.
Am I missing something?
(edited by Solirus.1754)
I got world completion a few days ago and didn’t receive the “Gifts of Exploration” for the character… I wouldn’t be so concerned but I’m planning on making a legendary weapon.
I am also having this problem and I reported it. It has been happening to me for at least 3 months!
Plinx has been down for hours, he was just standing around near the end of the run.
Before it looses connection it freezes. Things still move around but if i’m in the middle of a battle, that stops and then it gives me the error message and puts me on the sign in screen.
I keep getting the message : “The game client lost its connection to the server”.
It has happened twice while doing the story. I’ve gotten almost to the end and it just quit.
It also happened at the very end of a dungeon. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it? It just started doing it.
Please stop complaining about the Clock Tower. I completed it, and I am absolutely terrible at jumping puzzles. Do you know how I did it? I spent 15 hours going at it. Hundreds of attempts and hundreds of failures. It’s designed to be hard. It’s not a requirement to complete it, and it’s just fine the way it is (minus some issues with lag on certain overflow servers). If you want to beat it you have to work at it. It’s not handed to you on a silver platter.
I assumed it would be like the first game where the ‘party’ portion of the act would only last one day, on the final day of the event.
However, I work 10 to 6 that day and I’m wondering if I could get some clarification on what time the act starts, and how long it will run until it ends. I’m hoping to still have time to do it when I get home that night, as I need it for my achievement, and I really want to see how everything wraps up, being such an avid fan of this whole event and all.
What in the world is wrong with you people? What happened to playing games for fun? Huh? The battle was fun! The event was fun! That in itself was its own reward. Yet you labeled it as ‘work’. If you’re in this purely to make profit for your character maybe you should try a different game. I’m astounded. People ALWAYS have to have something to complain about. I hope Anet doesn’t spend too much time listening to you people.

That’s very useful and helpful information. I’ve already beaten it (after 15 hours mind you) so if I go again it will be for fun and I won’t bother to do this since it’s not that important to me now.
All that said, wow man, what are your graphics running at and what resolution? That looks atrocious
It took me 15 hours and hundreds upon hundreds of attempts to beat the clock tower. I had memorized most of the past early on, but I failed 80% of the time near the beginning and in the middle due to a combination of over sized races like Charr and Norn (my poor Asura) and a bugged camera that liked to zoom in instantly everytime I jumped while pressing forward against a wall or something.
But…I finally did it. I was the only one of my group to make it in. Most Charr and Norn tend to die early on, which makes early levels the hardest for me. Also the first time I ever got to the clock face was the only time I needed. I didn’t miss. I went right in.
This is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. So why do I love it so much? The design, the atmosphere, the music, the challenge! I relish it. The entire mad king’s realm just made this event go from fun to outstanding. Anet I love you!
And please do a jumping puzzle like this for Wintersday!
I’ve been playing a ton of costume brawl lately and I haven’t experienced many problems from the costumes paid for versus the costumes you earn from the cauldron. The mummy/zombie in particular is really easy to control and can take people on with ease. You just need to learn how to play other costumes.
If you really don’t want to learn and want an easy ‘I win’ button then go farm the gold and buy the costume.
It seems to me that minis don’t have quite as much appeal as they did in Guild Wars 1, though they’re still really popular and I am personally still an obsessive collector. I find them fun. But to make them more fun and to appeal to more people, perhaps you could look into having mini-pets do more than just walk around beside you. For example: on Valentines day release a flying cupid that shoots arrows of love at other players. Obviously the arrows don’t have any effect on them, but it’s still a lot of fun to watch. Just a thought.
I love minis. I love to collect them, and I love to show them off. This addiction started back in Guild Wars 1 and grew into an obsession. The Guild Wars 2 minis haven’t had quite as much pull over me mostly due to the lack of any that are extremely fun.
Until Halloween. The Halloween minis are the best ones yet. Especially the ghost, which is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. And the spider that makes tap tap noises as it walks. I disliked having to grind out another 5 gold so I could destroy 3, make the rare, then rebuy the 3, but it was worth it.
Anet, please make more cool minis for Wintersday. Thanks
Thank you kind sir.
But can I transmute it? I know there are more parts to the event and we don’t know what those are, but do I somehow need this book in its original form for later on or do you think it’s safe to transmute it? Because I love it and want to keep wearing it. I’m also worried that it might get stronger with each act and eventually turn Rare or Exotic or something.
I agree that a slider or something would be great. Lion’s Arch is a bit of a mess right now for me. I don’t lag, but I can’t see anyone unless I’m right on top of them. I actually see the ‘Pow’, ‘Bam’ pop ups before I see the players.
Also, has anyone else noticed that load times have increased substantially throughout every single zone since launch, and have now reached critical in Lion’s Arch?
If it makes you feel better the prices are dropping rapidly on the trading post and will likely continue to do so as the event goes on. The shield is only 20g, which can be made in a day or two of hard work. The only overly expensive one at this time is the Greatsaw, which will likely drop down to 30g-ish in time.
Just because the Pact weapons are rare doesn’t automatically make them food for the Mystic Forge. A lot of people (myself included) like the way they look. Exotic weapons are not hard to get. I can get an exotic greatsword for 1.5g, which is less than an hour of work at level 80 in Cursed Shore. They were designed with looks in mind. If you like it, transmute it. I plan to.
Guys, its this simple. You want something in life. Learn to work for it. Stop whining like a bunch of little kids and get over it. Nothing. Nothing is going to be handed to you on a silver platter. If you want something cool from this event, you have to be 1 of 3 things.
1. Determined as all hell to earn it, And work through the entire event to get it.
2. Rich as hell and just buy keys.
3. Really Really lucky.
If you are not any of those 3 things. Sucks to be you. Get over it. Life ain’t fair. Now if you excuse me. I have to get back to farming to EARN my weapon.
I haven’t complained 1 kitten bit, Even with the almost routine disconnects every 30-45 minutes or so.
If we were talking about the normal legendary weapons or something I would agree with you. However, this is a festival that we are supposed to be enjoying, not grinding to get items that they made a point to advertise all over the place. The whole situation between this and the BLC items is completely ridiculous, but I’ve long since expected fanboys to actually realize that not everything in the game is perfect. ArenaNet makes mistakes, but if you had your way they would get away with every bad decision and nothing would change.
All that said, most people only like to use Halloween weapons during the holiday itself. This game is still only 2 months old, and 98% of the player base can NOT afford these weapons. By the time we can, the holiday will be long gone, and by then what is the point? It was a bad decision, they’re being called out on it. Stop defending them.
Whether or not people chose to spend money or not is irrelevant, but I expect people to defend bad decisions in every game, so it’s no surprise there are people in this topic actually behind ArenaNet on this.
The fact is that they deliberately misled their player base so that they could rake in more cash. I didn’t want to believe it. I thought ArenaNet was above things like this. They never tell you how pitifully low your chances are of getting an item, and make a big fuss out of advertising the skins.
Yes, the event itself is fun outside of weapon skins, but why take the time to design weapon skins that 95% of the playerbase will never see or use? The low drop rate of BLC skins combined with the ABSURD requirements for crafted weapon skins (see my post on the subject) makes absolutely no sense to me. This game is 2 months old. Very, very, VERY few people have upwards of 100g or more to spend on a single weapon skin and it will stay that way for a very long time.
You know what, I’m not even going to bother. I don’t know what’s happened over at Anet headquarters, but this just goes way too far. I’m all for working towards something (even legendary weapons, since they are very unique and not holiday specific in their themes) but this is too much. By the time most players get these materials it will be WINTERSDAY! By which point we’ll likely have more weapons to make. Nobody wants Halloween weapons during Christmas time. I’m disappointed in this.
A single gift per item is somewhat more reasonable. However, does this mean there are only 3 weapons to make? Because that leaves a lot of players hanging out to dry. My Warrior can only use one of those 3 weapons.
I’d love to know how they get the mats with 8g considering that the wine bottles alone will cost you 60g (if you get enough for all 4 gifts). And the only crazy drops I see are from exploiting doors that spawn infinite enemies.
Also, what do you mean by ‘X Halloween Item’?
This is ridiculous. It’s like they’re trying to ruin their own game.
There’s no way that can be the recipes. I can understand making them challenging to craft, but that’s nuts. These aren’t legendaries, and should not be treated as such.
I would also like to know where it is.
If anyone discovers where and how to get the recipe for a halloween greatsword (if such a thing exists) please post here.
I hope they move him. Doing Arah was a ton of fun, but I just did it yesterday, and am not ready to go through that challenge again.
Plus I don’t remember Arah putting you behind that door.
I noticed this too, but not until after I’d used it for 45 seconds did I realize it was a bug, now I’m afraid of being banned. Half of my guild was there too apparently (the one in Queensdale.
Now I’m afraid.
Anet confirmed that there were craftable Halloween weapons (not the same as the Black Lion weapons) that are permanent versions of the ones you can buy on a 4 hour timer in Lions Arch. Does anyone know where the recipes are for these? And is there only a shield, bow and staff to craft or are there more weapons I’m not seeing?
All mini-pets in the Gem Store.
As a GW1 player, that’s sad…
Why is that sad? At the moment the transfer rate is pretty good. You can trade a couple of gold (which can be made in less than two hours) for about 400 gems, which is enough for a pet pack, which nets several minis of various rarities.
This all sounds fantastic. Especially the easier to obtain Karma (tier 3 cultural weapons here I come!) and the redesign of some events.
If they aren’t permanent I will be extremely upset.
As has already been pointed out, the personal story had its ups and downs. There were parts that made me want to give up on it because of characters and dialogue. Then Battle for Claw Island happened and made me realize how great it could be. Between levels 50 and 80 the story quality rose and fell at various times.
Then I hit level 70, and things drastically improved. As I rose through the final ten levels I realized that for the first time I was enjoying the ride as far as the story went, and the closer to 80 I got the better the story was. And not just the story. The mission layout, the scope and feel, the music (oh my god, the music in the final missions and final dungeon…Jeremy Soule at his best, moved me to tears at time) everything was great…except the characters.
I think that if Anet can keep the story at the quality it was in Orr, but GIVE US BETTER CHARACTERS (who decided Trahearne was a good idea? But Destiny’s Edge was pretty great in my opinion, more of them please) it will be a story to be proud of.
Seriously, missions like Air Drop (level 79), Source of Orr (level 80), and the Arah dungeon are some of my best memories in MMO history, and I’m extremely thankful for that. All that said, work on your final boss mechanics too. Getting to Zhaitan in that dungeon was fantastic, but the boss himself didn’t put up a fight at all. I enjoyed the fireworks though. And somewhere out there if Jeremy Soule is reading this…marry me.
OP, just an FYI, if you’re invested in the story at all, in order to complete it you have to do the final dungeon (Arah) of the game. In my opinion Ascalonian Catacombs is easy and short compared to some of the things you have to go through in the final dungeon. And I repeat, it is required to beat the storyline.
Even if I’m wearing two daggers. Is this a bug or is that a design decision? Maybe I’m just really OCD about this sort of thing, but if I have two daggers equipped, I’d like to see both of them in my hero panel on my character, and especially in the armor preview pane, where I often check to see if there are any clipping issues with my weapons before I buy the set.
Spoilers in this topic just in case you’re very picky about what you read…
I’ve been messing around in Straits of Devastation for about 2 weeks. Normally the invasion of Orr events are halted by a bug of some sort, and thus I’ve never seen how they all play out and mold into the Temple of Balthazar event. After the patch I decided to work on it again.
So, is the Southern Invasion of Orr like impossible or something? I tried doing this chain twice. Both times we get to the last part of the chain and fail because the morale gauge drops by a ridiculous degree no matter what we do, and there are lots of us there coordinating our attacks against the seemingly endless waves of Risen. The second time was particularly painful because we were on the steps leading up to the temple. Literally right beside the waypoint and on the last wave, and the morale gauge dropped to nothing and the event failed. Then the entire Southern Invasion chain restarted…again.
Sigh. This again?
Click to move was removed because it’s an unreliable, inaccurate, and frankly just plain bad way to play the game, and most games for that matter. Using W, A, S, and D to move ensures that you can maneuver and kite enemies in the way that you need to. The system worked in Guild Wars 1 because it went well with the combat system. In Guild Wars 2 explain to me how you are going to efficiently kite enemies (something frequently required) and also dodge attacks (almost always required) when you are clicking to move? You can’t, and you won’t be able to. They could add the option, but then people will be complaining about how much harder the game is because they are not playing with the proper controls. There’s a reason people don’t ‘click’ in MMOs anymore. It’s ancient and it doesn’t work most of the time. Just like in single player games. If you want to play you’re going to have to learn how to get used to different controls. 1 hour isn’t enough time to adjust to it. You have to actually practice and eventually it will be second nature.
Suggestion- Create restart checkpoints for story mission disconnects
in Suggestions
Posted by: Solirus.1754
Disconnects happen a lot in MMOs. Often it’s the servers, other times it’s someone’s connection. And sometimes people just need to log out because something urgent came up and they have to leave. It’s life, and it happens.
That said, in an MMO where personal story missions are completely instanced, why do we have to repeat the whole thing when we’re disconnected? If we die we resume from a checkpoint. Why can’t the same thing be done if we disconnect? In earlier missions that can be done in 5 or 10 minutes disconnecting isn’t a big deal. However, when you hit the higher levels and story missions are on part with Guild Wars Prophecies in terms of their length (and often times quite frustrating in the terms of their difficulty), disconnecting can lead to rage quitting, and in my case a broken mute button on my keyboard from where I slammed into it with my forehead as I wallowed in despair at my misfortunes.
So, my suggestion in a nutshell: Create a system that will allow you to restart from the same checkpoints as the ones you die at if you have to log out or if you get disconnected from the game. It would certainly make a lot of people I’ve spoken to happier. And it would save me from my current situation of having to redo Temple of the Forgotten God after I just spent 90 minutes getting to the very end of it. Similar thing happened on Forging the Pact, twice.
It would be challenging for certain races to be playable, mostly due to varying the armor designs and giving them believable stories and lip syncing with their voices. But it’s doable.
Tengu
Koda
Quaggan
Skritt
Hylek
All of these are great races with tons of originality and heaps of potential to be playable in an expansion. While Tengu and Koda are at the top of my list, I love all of the ones I listed. I know it seems a bit…strange to be attracted to rat people but I find the Skritt to be extremely cute. The problem with them is that they’re only intelligent in large groups. This could be solved with a proper backstory though. Maybe have a large city of Skritt uncover a spell or magical object that lets them keep their heightened intelligence even when separated or something.
Keep the Vistas the way they are. Getting 100% completion of a zone is not a requirement for beating and enjoying the game. It’s completely optional. If you don’t enjoy getting the Vistas then don’t do it. No one is forcing you to and they are plenty of fun for those of us that don’t have a problem with it.
