I vote for puting the race discussion aside from this thread. Please lets hear people’s wishlists instead?

My personal wishlist for GW2 next year(s), from most to least important(To ME, of course):

- A real, PvE valid and truly impactul Elite Spec Mechanic for Scrapper.
- RP specific aid functions and tools, including “RP map preference checkbox” and tons of new emotes.
- Lore imbued, storyline coherent and properly animated/playable explanation for the Revenant timeline phenomena, the sudden development of gliding, and the concrete birth of every Elite Spec.
- Bigger (Visible!) weapons for Asura.
- Reworked Gyros without AI.
- Head and foot gear fixed to correctly match Asura and Charr anatomies.
- Fully reworked, gliding-allowing and megaserver fixed WvW.
- Voice customization for the playable character.
- Pets who don’t forget their names.
- Multiple medium armor sets without trenchcoats.
- Multiple light armor sets without buttcapes.
- New playable race: Steam Creatures, with a proper lore, PS line and coherent explanation.
- New weapon type: Chains or Boomerangs.
- Improved aquatic combat and proper drowning. Breathers become relevant.
- How to dance vol 2.
- Raptor, Chak and Karka pets.
- New armor piece: Belts.
- Fun version of the final battle against Zaithan.
- Customizable Home Instance.

Wow, lots of good suggestions that I haven’t even thought of. Love it!

1. I didn’t forget aesthetics. It may be your biggest reason, but others may have different motives.

2. A new model doesn’t mean by any means that all armors/outfits have been reworked to be adapted. By your own admission, they don’t have the desire to rework armor, why would they do this for a new race then?

3. The story, who knows, it could be new content it could not, there’s not point to fight
this, because its speculation anyway you look at it.

4. Where do you get off speaking for the majority? How do you know what the majority wants? Do you think because you want it, it’s the majority? What about Koden, skritt, quagan, or another race that the other majorities want? I am leaving this as a new player race instead of fighting about a specific one, or resorting to bad logic, lets just talk in the context of a new race, and admit tengu is in the list as realistic as some other possibilities.

5. Your endgame may not be shared by everyone. Some people want to raid and max thier toons, Some may want to be the best at pvp (looks are a far second to this.) Others do want to look good as you state. Again, just because its your goal doesn’t mean everyone shares it.

6. Anet resources: I would prefer modelers coming up with new enemy models. More content NPC’s various things that would imo far better server the community over a new race.

I don’t see any reason a new race would add enough to the game at this point to justify the addition. In the future, who knows, but not right now is my opinion.

I’m not going to argue with you any further because that’s not the point of this thread, and you appear set on your opinion. Please contribute to the topic or post elsewhere. Thanks.

Do we really need a new playable race?

Why not?

Currently the only thing race offers is a tweak in skills in some game modes and 1/3 of the story being slightly different.

You forgot to mention aesthetics, which is the biggest reason to choosing a race.

The down side to a new playable race is every set of armor will have to be deigned and tested on various models. See current complaints on char and asura armors and ask your self if any new race will be better.

Tengu model is just a derivative of the Charr model. There are always going to be issues with Charr and Asura armors, so there’s no point in complaining about it anymore. It’s just how it works, and as far as I can see Anet has no intent to go back through every single armor set and fix it so they fit on Charr and Asura properly. Also Tengu got new models for HoT anyway.

Also their story would just be pigeon holed into the same crap the other races are set to do. This is mostly a guess and I am sure there is plenty of room to argue this point.

Their personal story does not have to be set to “Zhaitan time.” It could easily be something completely different and up to date with whatever dragon we’re fighting next. The “restrictions” that say the personal story for Tengu MUST be set to “Zhaitan time” are nonexistent. The only restriction is how much time Anet wants to bother putting into their kitten game. Unfortunately, lately they don’t seem to care. So, hell, it just might end up being the same kitten every other race had to go through. Who knows.

It would also create huge problems of QQ on the forums for the people who didn’t get their race of choice.

That vast majority of people want Tengu, there’s enough lore behind them to create a cohesive story around them, and they already have a home city literally right next to Lion’s Arch. The others can continue to cry about how they didn’t get their “completely realistic” choice of Quaggan as a playable race.

Personally I would rather see a better investment of time on ANet’s side instead of wasting time with something that has next to no impact on game play. This is the reason there was no new race in HoT, and I seriously doubt in the near future.

Choosing the basis of what your character looks like has next to no impact on gameplay in game where the endgame is to make your character look as fabulous as possible? I want to look at the butt of a bird while I play my ranger, not the butt of a salad or a cat. Also, Anet isn’t just one almighty being, there are multiple teams made up of multiple people doing multiple things. One team could easily be set to make Tengu playable. You seem to be talking like the people who fix bugs are the same people who do art and make models for the game. If anything, the creation of a new outfit being made to put into the gemstore would be pushed back, and I wouldn’t lose any tears over that.

What do you want to see in the future of Guild Wars 2 or the next expansion? List it all in this thread!

My personal list:

  • Tengu playable race – This is my greatest desire. The implementation of this race should, of course, should come with a new starting area, racial city (we all know it’s right next to Lion’s Arch…), and personal story. I’ve seen some people try to come up with reasons why this would be complicated, but none of the reasons that get frequently mentioned I see as an outright deterrent to making Tengu playable. I have actually held off creating a ranger because I want my ranger to be a Tengu. The wait is becoming painful for me. Just let us play as these beautiful, colorful birds already!
  • Bring back the old PvP armor sets as PvP reward tracks – I think this one is inevitable, to be honest. I’m talking about the Tribal armor set and the Stalwart armor set, of course. It’s been talked about a lot recently, so hopefully this doesn’t get “knocked off the table” again. I know that I won’t forget it…
  • Fix the physics on armors such as the “Shackles of Madness” – Some developer, God bless their soul whoever they are, actually fixed the physics on the “Wreath of Cooperation” skin not too long ago. This gives me hope that other skins (notably “Shackles of Madness” and “Glittering Wings Backpack”) will be fixed as well. I’m sure there are other armors that have some quite noticeable dysfunctions, so if you have a similar issue with a piece of armor, don’t be afraid to mention it! The particular issue with the "Shackles of Madness" skin is that the chains are stiff. They simple do not move as they should, and this has made it so that I, and many other players, do not want to wear this skin. The issue with the "Glittering Wings Backpack" is not that big of an issue, but it still bugs me personally. Some would argue that they are fine the way they are, but the stiffness of the dragonfly-like wings part of the skin doesn't seem natural. There should be at least some flexibility in this backpack, in my opinion.

So what do you want?

I really like my white wings, however the physical structure of the hawk wings is much more bird like. Comparing the two, the white (and black) wings look more like an avalanche of feathers that roughly approximate wings, while the hawk wings look very bird-like. I’d like to see the white/black wings get a makeover if possible.

THIS THIS THIS! So much this! I really want the old models to be replaced with the new. Anet please!!!

I’ll add in my two cents.

I think all existing backpieces should have a glider come with it. I know that’s A LOT of work to do on anet’s part, but having a glowy purple vine Mawdrey glider, a slick, mechanical Tempered Spinal Blades glider, and an angelic Light of Dwayna glider would make me (and a lot of other people, I’m sure) very, VERY happy.

There’s so much potential for good looking gliders. I hope anet can find it in their hearts to create something other than just plain old wings. (Although to be entirely honest I wouldn’t mind a silver version of the wing backpack/glider combo…)

Prestige is meaningless. This game should be about character customization, not arbitrary exclusivity.

This isnt communism online.

You’re right, this isn’t Communism online, but wanting to BE ABLE to get an armor set that others have (that was essentially taken out of the game with no warning, mind you) is akin to advocating for Communism? It’s not like they want to kittening take away the skins from the people that have them and given them to the people who don’t. You’re argument (if it even is one) is extremely flawed, so much so I can only assume you are baiting. I guess I bit anyway.

I absolutely love these wings.

That being said, I haven’t bought them because it’s inevitable that anet will come out with better colors.

That ALSO being said, I now regret buying the white anatomically incorrect feather wings because now they’ll come out with anatomically correct snow owl wings instead of doing what they SHOULD do and replace the white feather wings with the new, blatantly superior model. If they actually end up doing the latter I would be surprised.

I figured they did this because they were moving rewards to fractals and raids. Can’t say much for raids, seeing as how they aren’t in the game atm, but fractal rewards still suck. It makes me concerned that raid rewards won’t make up for it.

Hopefully a GM can help me with this!

About a week ago or so, I accidentally bought an “Identity Repair Kit” instead of a “Total Makeover Kit.” I didn’t realize that the Identity Repair Kit included both a Name Change Contract and a Total Repair Kit until I opened it. I had just previously bought two Name Change Contracts in order to fix a minor issue with two of my characters (I changed “Prowlerclaaw” to “Prowlerclaw” and “Feralpaaw” to “Feralpounce”). I had no idea the Identity Repair Kit even existed, because if I had I would have bought that instead of one of the contracts that I bought, as “Feralpounce” needed a makeover as well, so I ended up wasting a lot of gems.

Admittedly, I didn’t think things through well enough when I made my purchase.

To summarize briefly:
I paid $50 for 4000 gems.
I bought two Name Change Contracts (1600 gems)
I bought an Identity Repair Kit (1000 gems)
The total cost of these items came to 2600 gems

I could have bought one Name Change Contract (800 gems)
and an Identity Repair Kit (1000)
for 1800 gems total

This, on my part, was a terrible mistake.

I’d now like to ask a GM if they could possibly restore 1000 gems to me and remove the components of the Identity Repair Kit (the unused Name Change Contract and the unused Identity Repair Kit) that is sitting in the inventory of “Feralpounce.”

If you have any doubts you may check my purchase history (I also bought a Total Makeover Kit, Daydreamer’s Wings Backpack Set, and Mask of the Wanderer Skin on that same day, I’ll even include a screenshot!).

I’d very extremely grateful to the GM and the Arenanet company as a whole if someone could do this for me. If there is any trouble with fulfilling my request, please tell me why! Thank you.

I do think the Kas/Jory relationship was added too early. I would’ve liked to see their relationship develop at a slower pace. Let little hints drop, let them be best friends before realising that they might want more than friendship. I think that would’ve saved us quite some sappy conversations in between battles.

I agree with this. Their relationship seemed to happen too fast, which I think really took away from more character development, both individual and between them. It just feels really forced, like a lot of things in this games’ story, unfortunately.

Kasmeer and Marjory are just shoehorned lesbians that constantly flaunt the fact that they are together in our face

Remember that the next time you see a heterosexual couple kissing in public, wearing rings, holding hands, referring to each other, and so on. For some reason it is only when non-straight couples make it obvious they are a couple that it is “flaunting it in your face”.

No, actually. It’s considered flaunting when straight people do it too.

Please direct me to all the posts with people complaining about straight people “flaunting it”.

Sorry, did I just not complain about straight people “flaunting it?” It’s the post you replied to, in case you didn’t notice. Also I’m pretty sure a lot of people criticized Logan Thackery’s relationship with the Queen back when that was relevant.

I have been outside. That’s common. They are your main companions, so of course you see people commenting on them.

Your bigoted attitude is, unfortunately, not unique. The mere fact that queer characters exist, at all, is reason enough for some to suggest they are “flaunting it”. Basically, behaving like any couple would, somehow different rules apply because they are gay. No one ever says this sort of thing about straight characters.

You see this in various media too – movies, TV, etc. If they include a gay character, the thinking is they’re only putting it in to be controversial. And everyone sexualizes them.

Even the comments in this thread are appalling. Comments like “there only there because lesbians.” and transphobic jokes. This game has a trans character, so that one was particularly awful.

Personally, I like how ANet have added all these characters. I hope they add even more. Lots more. The game could be even more diverse. I mean, the game has thousands of characters, and a handful aren’t straight, white males and y’all come here and complain? Don’t make me laugh.

But why is their relationship being mentioned all the time? If they were a straight couple it would be mentioned once or twice, not every time you pass by a new NPC. Ok, that’s obviously an exaggeration, but I’m trying to make the point that it is simply mentioned more than it needs to be. Let me also add that this would still be an issue IF THEY WERE A STRAIGHT COUPLE. It’s annoying, REGARDLESS of sexuality, when a relationship is being mentioned all the time. Yes, ok, we get it, they are together, can we talk about Mordremoth now?

Now I’m not the person you were talking to, but using ad hominem to support your argument isn’t very helpful. And I can’t speak for the person you were talking to, but I don’t mind homosexual characters if they have more going for them than just their sexuality. Their sexual preference should NOT be the defining factor of a characters’ personality, straight, gay, or whatever. It makes the character look like they were only put in there for diversity purposes, and that is simply not good story writing.

And aren’t character, by mentioning their sexuality over and over and over again, sexualizing themselves? I’m not just talking about gay people either. Having ANYONE do ANYTHING sexual is considered sexualization, by definition. Of course, I don’t think Kas and Marj are super bad culprits of this, because they seriously could be worse, but the point is I want to see more of WHO THEY ARE beyond their relationship. At this point, if one of them dies, the one who is living is going to become nothing but an ineffective backstory. The writers need to stress their individual personalities more, that’s all I really want. (Well, that and more focus on MY character, since I’m supposed to be the “boss.”)

It’s funny that you quoted me and the one line that I said in my initial, very vague comment instead of reading beyond that to my other comment in which I said, “They ARE more than just lesbians, but it doesn’t feel like they are since their relationship is at the forefront of their ‘character development.’” I expand even further beyond that in the same comment about why I feel the way I feel about these characters.

Diversity for the sake of diversity is a terrible idea. When writing in solely focused on getting as many demographics in the story as possible, then they lose focus on what the story is supposed to be about. I’m not saying I’m against diversity. I’m saying that you can add in as many black, lesbian, whatever minority people as you want as long as they are MORE than their skin color or sexuality. Of course giving side NPCs that don’t matter backstories and complex personalities because they are a minority is just useless, because they are just side NPCs. But the point I’m trying to make here is that no one should be given special treatment in the story because of their sexuality or skin color or anything like that.

Who here is actually complaining about these characters JUST because they are lesbians? Most of us are constructively criticizing the writing. Like I said in a previous comment, “Let’s pretend for a moment that Marjory was a dude and he feel in love with Kasmeer or vice versa. That would mean that they would be a straight couple, and guess what, I still wouldn’t like it. Why? Because they have no personality. They are just there, and they happen to be in a relationship. It doesn’t matter what KIND of relationship, I don’t care that they’re lesbians, but outside of this relationship there’s nothing extraordinary about who they are as individual characters.”

I hope I made you laugh your kitten off.

I know some people don’t understand language and subtext but I’ll explain why this is not a nice way of expressing yourself.

“in our face” is a phrase linked with “rubbing dirt/kitten in our face”, when you use this about being shown a lesbian couple it creates the notion that their relationship or all lesbian relationships are something awful being inflicted on you.

You might not mean that (or you might) but this language is what stirs up resentment and offense, you’re using provocative language.

In truth Kasmeer has a very interesting backstory and has a character arc through the living story.

Aristocratic family destroyed by her brother – unsure of her place in the world – meeting Marjory – discovering she has unique talents – dealing with the nightmare tower’s effects – strength from vengence charging Scarlet – Anise (fellow Mesmer) helping her get back to court (which implies there is a coven of Mesmers in great position to help one another in DR) – how to help a loved one who has suffered a loss and feeling helpless – feeling like a valued member of DE 2.0.

She’s a lot more than “just a lesbian” but I guess you weren’t listening.

Let’s pretend for a moment that Marjory was a dude and he feel in love with Kasmeer or vice versa. That would mean that they would be a straight couple, and guess what, I still wouldn’t like it. Why? Because they have no personality. They are just there, and they happen to be in a relationship. It doesn’t matter what KIND of relationship, I don’t care that they’re lesbians, but outside of this relationship there’s nothing extraordinary about who they are as individual characters. There’s no personality, and the relationship does nothing to improve it, so it becomes annoying when you are constantly reminded that these two characters are together when that relationship doesn’t matter. Mentioning it over and over and over again makes it seem like the writers are trying too hard to force you to feel like this relationship means something, when it really doesn’t. At least not to me.

You brought up their backstories. I didn’t feel like the backstories of these characters made their personalities any more outstanding. Kasmeer and Marjory both had rough pasts… and in order to cope with this they… fall in love and everything is suddenly ok because they have each other? This is very cliche writing. It would be far better if they were able to overcome their troubles on their own, which would help them develop as individual characters, and their relationship could just be the cherry on top of the ice cream.

They ARE more than just lesbians, but it doesn’t feel like they are since their relationship is at the forefront of their “character development.” I don’t doubt it’s especially hard for people who haven’t played season 1 at all to see these characters as anything but lesbians. This is unfortunate. Also, if we have to be paying special attention to the story to see past their relationship in order to see their personalities, then their personalities aren’t being expressed strongly enough.

Inb4 kittenstorm because I said something negative about a fictional person who happens to be a lesbian and get called a homophobe.

One last thing, the player character could do with some romance options, bringing optional personality back and actually altering relationships within the group because of it. Ya know, the things that attaches and connects different players with different NPCs.

How about no romance at all? I’m freaking exploring the land of Tyria, not the land of some sylvari dude’s body. And I could give less of a crap about other NPCs’ romance.

But I agree we need more game changing, actual RPG decisions that take you down different paths depending on your choice, and then as a result of that choice it gives you more choices that branch off from that, and so on.

Also remember how choosing your personality during character creation was going to actually make a difference? Yeah… what gives.

I 100% agree. I WANT to like them, but I wasn’t around for most of Season 1, and I don’t feel very connected to these characters at all. It’s sad that Marjory and Kasmeer have basically no personality and there only there because lesbians. Rox and Braham are bland, and frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if they turned out to be a Godkitten inter-species couple and we get a cutscene kiss between them just like with Marjory and Kasmeer. Taimi is the only remotely likable character in my opinion, she seems to have a lot of energy and excitement, things which are severely lacking with the other four. Too bad ANet wouldn’t even think of getting rid of them in Season 3.

There is no scheme, just a misunderstanding. If they would of worded HoT as such “new players get the core game for free” a lot of the arguments would of been erased. HoT is $50 dollars with or without the core game.

But that is how ANet worded it, and our arguments are justified.

Theres a third option too, dont buy it. See how simple it is?

I think most people who have been playing the game for 3 years want to buy HoT and not feel like they are being treated unfairly while doing it.

Most of the people on the forums. I dont feel like im being treated unfairly because I know that I got my monies worth. Its not like WoW where they charge a monthy fee, say all this stuff is going to be in the expansion and then release something like WoD. If you dont like what your getting dont buy it. Its really just that simple.

Then that’s the way you feel, and that’s fine. I’m glad you’re happy with what you paid for, but there are too many people who aren’t happy for this issue to be swept under the rug. It doesn’t help that they people who are happy keep calling the people who aren’t “entitled,” while we clearly have our reasons for being upset about ANet way of marketing.

And I won’t be buying it, not until ANet does something about it. In the end it’s ANet’s loss though.

Every business I know caters more to the new customer than to the existing one.
Now, if the loyal customer feels slighted, than that has to be rectified. But how does Anet go about that?
A character slot for only veterans? Seems like two wrongs there, and a vicious circle tbh.
Still even with any extras, kids are still screaming price when every video game ever released on ANY system is $60.
So if Anet caters to us ‘veterans’ what about those unhappy about price?

People are only unhappy about the price because they don’t think they are getting their moneys worth, and I am in that category. If ANet included a character slot for veterans with the expansion, then I would feel like I’m getting my moneys worth, but I can’t speak for other people.

When you put “only” in that statement that means everyone who is unhappy falls under that category and that isnt the case. People just want free stuff. If you dont think the expansion is worth its cost due to limited information then by all means, wait, talk with your wallet. But coming on the forums screaming that you should get something for playing for 3 years wont accomplish anything. It just makes people look childish like they are deserving of something because they played a game.

Like I said, I can’t speak for everyone, and I doubt that everyone is upset because they “just want free stuff.”

And I’m not screaming, I’ve been discussing the situation civilly anywhere I post on the forums. And if you don’t think that a mass amount of people complaining about the same thing on the forums won’t change anything, then you are dead wrong. Either ANet will change the way they are marketing the expansion to make it seem fairer to veterans, or they do nothing and potentially lose players or not make as much money as they would have off of HoT.

If you cant speak for everyone then dont put “only” in the post. It clumps everyone in the same category. Never said “you” were, just making an example of what is going on and what it would be like if you did do something like what others are doing. This will blow over when something like the engineer specialization comes out or something.

You can’t speak for everyone either, so stop saying that veterans just want free stuff. And no, this won’t “blow over” until the specific problem have been addressed by ANet and they’ve done something about it.

Bla bla bla…

No you have a right to say what you dont like about it. But when it steps into the realm of entitlement your arguments are overlooked. If you dont think the expansion is worth $50 go ahead, voice away. If you think you are owed something because you played for 3 years I get get the kitten out and dont come back.

See? This is why people like you keep repeating like parrots same arguments without noticing the right point: you really don’t read threads. Just imagine the point and charge against it.

Let me tell you the real point.

Most of ‘vets’ who are protesting settle these two clear points against the pre-purchase:

1. Anet shows very, very few information about what HoT will offer. This causes players to not trust the purchase will satisfy their interests.

2. The issue with the Basic Pack isn’t -I repeat: isn’t- the price, but what gives the pack. A ‘vet’ player won’t get more than HoT, while new players get HoT and the core. It’s a good deal for new players? Of course. It’s good for the community? Of course! It’s good for the vets? No. Why? Because there is no real incentive for buying the pack.

Now you’ll say “but you have other two options”. Yeah, true, but…

… what if I’m not interested in the skins, the statue and/or the gems? Really, the only incentive for those packs is the character slot. Oops, but wait… why they didn’t include it in the Basic Pack too, since ‘vet’ players only gonna recieve HoT with it?

There is the point why many ‘vets’ feel disappointed and mad.

Argue with these statements, once you know the real points.

Theres a third option too, dont buy it. See how simple it is?

I think most people who have been playing the game for 3 years want to buy HoT and not feel like they are being treated unfairly while doing it.

But lets see, special treatment. Theres another word for it.

yes, it’s discrimination

Reading comprehention. Im not saying that there is another word for special treatment or entitlement, im saying special treatment is another word for entitlement.

Oh? Now you’re telling people to get some reading comprehension? Oh, this is just too sweet.

What would you like Anet to include in the veteran version?

A character slot included in the cheapest version of the expansion ($50) only available to veterans. This would make it seem fair to me.

I’m entitled to exactly what I paid for.
I’m entitled to equal value for my money.

By the way some veteran players like myself paid $150 for GW2 so we didn’t get anything for free.

You got nothing for free? So you just gave them $150 bucks for nothing, never played the game or anything? Thats your fault, I got plenty of free stuff. Its no ones fault but your own.

And you are getting what you paid for, the expansion. That is $50 with or without the core game attached.

Reading comprehension is a nice skill to have, friend.

And how do you know that $50 is worth the expansion without the core game? What exactly is even in HoT?

Because I think its worth it, and if you dont know what is in HoT maybe you should do some research.

I should do some research, hm? So what is the “challenging content” that ANet has said will be in the expansion? What is the elite specialization for any of the classes that haven’t been talked about yet? There are things in HoT that still haven’t been expanded upon.

Simple Question

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Starlightpaw.5871

Starlightpaw.5871

To answer your question: yes, I do like the game. I’ve put well over 1500 hours into it, and I’ve loved nearly every second of it. I don’t doubt I will continue to play the game for a long time, despite the whole ordeal we are currently going through.

However, I don’t like the fact that the core game is being included with the expansion, and let me tell you why. The FAQ used to say that you needed to buy the core game before the expansion. Then ANet turned around and changed the FAQ to say that the core game will be included with the HoT expansion.

Now consider all the people who bought the core game only recently. They’ve been betrayed and misled. ANet will most likely (there will be an uproar and probably a loss of players if they don’t) refund these people if they buy HoT, so no problem there.

But, there’s another problem. This “pricing method” is a huge slap in the face to veteran players (and I’ll expand upon that later in my post). People will either argue A) “Yeah? Well at least you’re not paying a monthly fee!” or B) “You’ve had 3 years to play and enjoy this game! $50 isn’t a big deal, stop crying about it!” They’ll probably argue both since they tie in so nicely together as an argument against the “raging, ANet hating scum.”

My response to A) ANet gets their money from the gem store, this is what replaces the money they would get from a monthly subscription fee. There are people who pay more for gems in a month than they would be paying in a month due to a subscription fee. These people probably bought so many gems because of the fact there is no subscription fee. Personally, I have bought gems before on more than one occasion, as I’m sure many people have. I wasn’t so hesitant to hand ANet my money until recently.

My response to B) Many (I would even say most) people aren’t upset over the fact the expansion is $50. I think the majority of people are upset that the base game comes with the expansion. This is the slap in the face to the veterans, and I’ll explain why in my opinion, and I’m sure people will disagree with me. Everyone should be paying for the base game separate from the expansion. Yes, new players will have missed season 1 and can’t go back to experience the game like the veterans did at the beginning, which is why the base game was being sold for $10 not too long ago. The sale was to compensate for all the missed content and bring in new faces for future content (people who would probably buy HoT if they decided they liked GW2). I wouldn’t expect new players to drop $60 on the base game like I did back in the day, especially with HoT coming out soon. $10 is a reasonable price for the base game at this point in time.
If the expansion was $50 and didn’t come with the base game, the only people that would be complaining would be the people who don’t want to spend and extra $10 to get the gems for another character slot, something that I think most people expected would come included with the expansion, or the people who expected a lower price tag and aren’t happy with $50 period. Either HoT should not have included the base game with it, or there should be a cheaper option to buy HoT without the base game. ANet is currently forcing the people who want to buy HoT to pay for a “free” version of the base game that they already have, and these people can’t even give the key to the base game (that they didn’t want to pay for) to a friend or use it to make another account for themselves. This is why the $50 is a problem.

I’m not buying HoT (even though I really want to) until ANet makes an official statement on the matter and/or changes the “pricing method” to something that I see as reasonable, tells us what exactly is even in HoT since a lot of the content they are talking about isn’t even in the expansion, and gives us a release date.

Will this be available for purchase after Heart of Thorns releases, or is this a pre-order only kind of deal? I would love to have those 4000 gems on top of the other stuff.

New people need to ask for instructions if they don’t know what to do.

Veterans need to give instructions even when no one asks for them.

Unfortunately, there will always be the people who don’t care and just do what they want. You can’t do anything about those people. Hopefully, if you have enough people doing what they are supposed to do, those other people won’t matter as much.
