Will scourge be enough to become raid viable?

Ask again few weeks after release…

(Reaper is perfectly fine for raids, no matter what people are saying)

If “fine” means that it is possible to do a raid with a reaper in the group, then your statement is true.
Unfortunately, everyone else defines “perfectly fine” as “not the worst option by far”. In nearly every situation and raid setup, any other class you pick does more for a raid group. Even an elementalist has an easier time to do far more damage.

So yes, no matter what you are saying, you’re wrong. Reaper isn’t fine: Reaper does significantly less damage in a raid, brings a benefit for only two encounters, and contributes nothing unique. To make a reaper fine, one of two things would need to happen:

-Unique Support that is useful to a group
-Equal DPS

Reaper has neither.

Scourge, at least, has potential for both. The DPS may be competitive (it sure is much higher than reaper), and it is possible the support will come in useful enough to run one.

Pugging raids a lot lately and getting decent necro player is as good as average alternative. Also doing very fast runs with my necro. At least 1/3 of all the LI I have are done with necro. You can keep trying to convince me necro is bad, you wont succeed

He’s not saying it’s bad. He’s just saying it’s the worst, which is why you get carried.

Stop rewarding failure!

Cool class. Cool devs.

  1. They made good guides which are actually really helpful, so thanks to them for that. Seems the Fractal developer agrees.
  2. They run a speedclearing guild, and Necromancer’s are not optimal for speedclearing so they don’t want any. Let them run a guild how they want to.
  3. These two things are completely unrelated, and so your post is grasping at straws to justify whatever point you’re trying to make.

Click on the Necromancer class guide on their site and tell me what happens.

“Thanks for making these!”

If thats what you took from it you missed the point of the thanks.

You’re mixing a guilds personal feelings towards a class and what the devs are actually thanking them for. The two things, like Rising said, are completely unrelated. You’re trying to make it that the devs condoning how the guild personally look at necro and not how inherently useful videos detailing mechanics etc are for people who either find an encounter difficult etc.

You are literally trying to make it something its not.

So since the Dev went through it, is he aware Necro needs buffs?

A dev giving a guide a reply does not mean he read every single sentence, clicked every link, looked at every image and every video, and then carefully considered a response.

That dev is also not responsible for class balance.

Please, stop embarassing your fellow necros with this pathetic, wimpering behavior. Our class has issues, but hounding a dev for a good natured comment is absolutely counterproductive and makes us all look like little, whiny brats.

Your tactic has surely been working over the last 5 years.

I cannot believe some people can’t do kitten in this game unless Anet hold their hand and tell em “It’s okay, we will make it braindead difficulty so u can have shinies too, like those cool kids right there”. Its so bad, it’s amusing.

Keep up the good fight and stay away from reddit. I heard there are sharks there…..

raids are meant to be the way they are.

life is unfair, can’t get a kitten villa without having the money or working for it, right.

don’t say now: but this is a game…because it still follows the same ruleset.
hell, it even has its own economy.
else we could just cather everyone and make everything free in there. everyone can have everything. Guild Soviet 2. lul

Games with much much harder raids (and PVE in general) than GW2 have raid difficulties.

What the difficulties help do is give more casual players the experience and introduction to eventually do normal difficulty. And then normal difficulty (GW2 level) helps them get into Heroic (Harder than GW2). Then heroic possibly helps them get into Mythic (much harder than GW2).

This is one of the reasons games like WoW have dozens upon dozens of LFG listings for raids. While GW2 has possibly 2-4 on a lucky day (All asking for chrono or druid).

So if a much more hardcore game has difficulties, why can’t GW2? I mostly want this so that the raid community can be much larger – because that will be one of the positive effects.

Speaking of shines, lower difficulty = lower reward.

It’s actually very hard to get into a GW2 raid compared to WoW/FF, which have over 100 listings at any given time. GW2 has like 3-4.

And the kicker is, those 2 games have much harder raids yet are pugged much more frequently.

Substatic.6958

A story mote version, using the same tech they use to implement challenge motes, would likely solve this issue – allowing them to develop really difficult raid encounters without boxing the content off from the more casual players – something that Anet obviously cared more about in the early days of the game.

It would give more people more ways to have fun as a team – which should be the whole point.

Without specifying the difficulty you are looking for, you already have this in the game (at least wing 4, lets be real they will never go back and add story mote to older wings)

Its called normal mode…challenge mote is the problem because it is not repeatable? If the challenge mote was the repeatable “normal” mode but then the “story mote” was the current difficulty, would this solve the problem? Absolutely not. It would just mean one more button click when you enter the instance. Not only are you looking for a story version, but a story version that is easier than the current difficulty.

Its been 18 months…we should be long past the point of “we can/cannot have an easier version of raids in gw2”. It can definitely happen. The question is what resources is the community, or more importantly ANET willing to give up to dedicate the time/tech to be able to do so? Want easy mode raids? Do you want it if PoF only has 2 maps instead of 5? These are the questions to think about…not the blanket statement yes/no answers.

To all of the folks who think that raids changed the direction of the game for the worse…maybe some parts of the content did. But nobody seems to want to acknowledge that the game and ANET greatly benefit from being able to make more challenging content.

It widens the door for types of encounters they can design, allows them to implement new tech/mechanics that they can use elsewhere to benefit the game, it gives players a reason to improve which allows ANET to make more content/$$$, etc.

Remember all of the amazing reddit posts about how the checkpoint system in Siren’s JP with the special action key? Where did the tech for the special action key come from? Oh ya…raids. Just one small example of the types of indirect benefits that come from having to design more challenging content. Who knows, maybe if Sabetha didn’t require a green bomb to throw, we never would have had the special action key in the first place.

Changing health and damage values would be that resource intensive?

Also whatever they are doing with raids at the moment isn’t working. The raid scene in gw2 is practically dead compared to the other top MMOs. I attribute this to the combination of no raid difficulties and some of the worst PVE balance I’ve seen in a long time for a video game. The lack of difficulties makes GW2’s more casual playerbase have a harder time to slowly get introduced into them. The extreme imbalance makes it hard for even good players to join a group that only want very very specific classes and specs from a relatively tiny pool of builds.

And the ironic point about needing these meta builds is, the gw2 raids are actually easy compared to other games. But the specs are so imba it doesn’t even matter.

I could just as easily turn this around on you. So here it goes. Where did the devs lock you out of raids.

They didn’t, but he has a point. Open world is a content meant for everyone. Raids, by design and stated devs intention, aren’t.
Besides, anyone that can do raids will do fine in open world. The opposite is obviously not true.
So, it’s not that one side gets 4 maps, and another gets a raid. No. Raiders get the maps as well… in addition to raids.

So do PvP-ers. So do WvW-ers. And – surprise, surprise – many of them don’t bother with open world. So in effect open world isn’t meant for everyone. It’s the closest thing to “meant for everyone” the game has to offer, but nevertheless your argument is flawed. The game is full of targeted content. And this is only normal. It needs to be. Or it couldn’t keep its players in. Open world is only good for keeping casual players and casual players do not tend to stick around for long. Sure, there will be exceptions. But they won’t be enough to keep the game alive.

Why not put in different raid difficulties so everyone can enjoy it?

This is like asking “why not put in story-mode PvP so everyone can enjoy it”? Because the enjoyable part of raiding is the challenge. They are designed like that. Take that away and they lose all meaning and purpose. Nobody will enjoy that.

WoW has raid difficulty and it is extremely successful and fun. They range from easier to GW2 raids, similar to GW2 raids, slightly harder, to extremely harder. It lets everyone enjoy raids. The difficulties have different rewards.

As a result you see 60+ groups in LFG at any one given moment (all raids), asking for any class. In GW2 you maybe see 2 or 3, all asking for the same 2 classes.

It’s good for casuals and hardcore players. It’s good for “bad” raid classes and specs. Casuals get to learn and experience the raid, and use more specs. Hardcore get a the option of playing harder Raids than what is currently available (which is frankly easy compared to other MMOs, which is why I’m confused by your elitism, btw). They all get what they want.

Another result of raid difficulties is participation is exponentially increased (as proven by WoW’s huge sample size once difficulties were released). Were is the issue? There is literally zero down sides.

Regarding Reaper & Design Philosophy

in Necromancer

Substatic.6958

Agreed with Dadnir. Making a spec condi/power etc as it’s primary design is bad. A spec should be focused around a given playstyle, with traits giving multiple ways to do so.

In that regard reaper is hands down best elite spec in HoT. It’s not about type of damage, but about being a melee frontliner that cleaves, chills and gets stronger the more numerous the enemy is.

Yes, necros are a selfish class by design. This isn’t new: Necros have always been more about supporting themselves than others, by design. The entire design of the shroud is pretty much the personification of this. This isn’t even a bad thing, inherently. It makes necros/reapers highly successful in two of the three main game modes.

So what about all the classes that excel in all 3 game modes?

Also isn’t this what specs and builds are for – so a class can at least have a chance in all facets of the game? For PVE Necro and its specs clearly need buffs and this can be seen by objective measures.

Look at attached screenshot from their old site. It’s pretty obvious. The only two classes their higher ups don’t care for are rev and necro. No surprise those are the same two classes that nobody wants in raids, since the people de facto in charge of the meta don’t want them. There are objectively better necro builds that have been bench-marked by others and myself already, yet qtfy ignores them and posts their own builds with tons of disclaimers so they can pretend they’re trying.

I find it very odd that WoW is considerably more casual friendly than GW2 at the time being. Odd because this was the exact opposite before HoT and Legion/WOD.

Maybe if there was difficulty modes or queue for Raids. The Fractal system could be smoother and also have queue. Asc Viper armor could be a bit easier to get. Mastery XP could also be increased for getting the higher level ones. Some of the HoT and S3 mobs are clearly over-tuned to be handled by the over-played god classes.

Make money. Yep, I went there. I know its not a big thing on this forum, but its not a HoT only discussion. A lot of people I play with in game, who I talk to on forums, hear on map chat, etc all say “Its impossible to earn money”. I’m BAD at making money, and when I take 5 minutes to figure out a get-rich-quick-scheme, I usually break 10g an hour. What’s the method?

Step 1) Acquire a Pen and Notebook if you are really going for a big goal (2k gold or so), otherwise ignore this step. It is however a good practice to have this in your life for other reasons, but thats my opinion.
Step 2) Open the trading post and check all the mats. Wood, Venom, Blood, Leather, Cloth, Ore, etc. Write down the price in your notebook marking the names clearly so you don’t think later “wut did I write? was I drunk?”.
Step 3) Find the highest pricing ~group~ of items. Group by level, not by item. For instance, I am currently farming a combination of leather/bags/cloth that nets me 1g per 5 or 6 minutes if I go slow.
Step 4) Next week (doesn’t have to be on the dot, but you get the idea) write the prices down. Make sure to mark rises.

OR. There is like a trading post website. =/ But I like having my answer next to me instead of using a search bar. Point being, so long as people like me can make this money (and like I said, I am bad. I use sell instantly .-.) then so can everyone else. If prices were truly dropping in the trading post, then EVERYTHING would drop. But, oddly, legendaries and ascended materials are staying the same. How odd. Have a great day, hope I helped. Not sure what the TP website is though.

WOW. That sounds like TONS of fun!

Let me just put down this Fallout 4 so I hurry up and log into GW2 to do that exciting stuff you just listed!

These threads are ridiculous. MMO developers normally force players to buy new expansions by raising the level cap and introducing more powerful gear, which makes core game obsolete. Anet did not raise level cap so they had to make core game obsolete in other ways.

You are not supposed to continue play and fully enjoy the game if you do not buy expansion. Anet needs you to buy the expansion because developing and maintaining the game is not free, it costs money.

The issue is one of the core game things they substantially nerfed (probably more than dungeons) was Fractals, which is currently the main PVE end-game for HoT as well.

Every time you sell something on the tp, you have the choice to list it for double, triple or ten times the value it actually has.

But you dont and rather go to the forums and complain about them making gold.

Too frequently it’s players doing instant sell of item drops rather than take the 10 seconds to list a price somewhere between current high bid and low ask. That difference adds up quickly over time. And Gods forbid they vendor it to NPCs.

How does any of this explain the nerfs the original post mentioned?

Were the nerfs designed around people using the TP more efficiently after HoT hit?

What i wrote wasnt a response to the OP but to your post. I dont know why you are expecting to find an explaination in it for something unrelated.

And my response was in response to nerfing of all those vanilla gold methods.

Except all those methods that got nerfed werent vanilla they got introduced after launch.

And you dont need spreadsheets in order t olist your loot for a higher value.
