You guys are all being ridiculous, the op is talking about getting to hard to reach or out of bounds areas on the map, the example given is the bottom of rata sum.
There is nothing to be gained from that how is anyone making the jump from that to an instance where you avoid mobs.
Stop being dumb.
I think probably what the person said about younger people being able to devour content for 10+ hours a day is probably more true for them not liking it than a short attention span.
That being said I’m 25 and can put in 5 or so hours some days if I choose to after work. And I do still enjoy the game. (woo for expendable income and few responsibilities!)
I like that many of you overlooked the part where he said his mmo community sampling is the “large pool of friends” he has that play mmos. I know some people that think diablo 3 is a great game. Do I think that’s the majority opinion? Hell no.
It’s not about socializing in the aspect of what is being typed out its antisocial in the regards that people develop zero patience for people. Mistakes become unacceptable. Instead of trying to teach people how to do a fight properly it becomes easier to wait for the next batch and hope its better. That is what I mean by antisocial, it’s not the content of what is being typed its the aversion to contact with people that will be deemed unacceptable by people’s standards.
That is the antisocial behavior I speak of. It’s the exact thing that happened in wow. When you have easy access to a pool of hundreds of thousands of players they all become less valuable and the slightest misstep or flaw by someone is seen as a easier fix to replace them rather than help them learn what they did wrong. Cause why bother spending anytime teaching when there’s 10,000 people waiting in line behind that guy.
I know you might say, we’ll I wouldn’t do that, but once again as wow proved by example most people do.
And to clarify this is about a wow style dungeon finder. I’m not against Lfg tools but not one that does all the work for you.
A LFG system wouldnt ruin socialization and make people selffish.
This game has loot for all and everyone gets their share based on luck.
If you think an LFG system is going to cause people to be uncooperative or socially negative, then guess what theyre kitten-holes. When i join a group i usually like to say hi cuz im happy other people want to run this dungeon. Im not thinking about the LFG system and matching me with “zomg oh noes, Randoms!”
People will choose to be social or anti-social, cooperative or uncooperative, nice or straight up mean, With or Without a LFG system.
The LFG system would just help streamline the process to aquire a group for a dungeon. Allowing a player let says to run his Orichalcum rounds around Frostgorge Sound and Cursed Shore while looking for a group at the same time.
How exactly is this going to ruin the social aspect of this game, someone please give me a real example lol?
When getting a group becomes as easy as pressing a button and waiting 30 seconds the value of that group is destroyed because there’s another group always waiting for you. When groups are harder to come by and you have to put in the effort to make them you have more invested in it and want it to succeed.
I get that you may feel that this would change nothing for you but as wow showed by example millions of people feel the way I described. If you never played wow and haven’t seen 3/5 people instantly leave the group when someone isn’t careful and pulls an extra pack then you won’t fully understand how little value wow has made dungeon groups with their Lfg tool.
I was around from the beginning of wow and I watched how the implementation of dungeon finder tools destroyed social and moral aspects of the game.
First it was dungeon stones and those were pretty good, run to the instance click on the stone outside it puts you in an Lfg with everyone else that ran and touched the stone so you could assemble a group from that pool.
Then those turned into summoning stones, this is where trouble started. After a few weeks of the change everyone asked to be summoned instead of going to the instance, which was a problem since you needed at least 2 people to use the summon. Thus you stood for 10 minutes alone by the stone telling your party members at least one if them has to come to summon. 2 out of 3 times someone left cause it was taking too long and the didn’t feel like running.
Then we got global LFG chat, oh how horrible spamfest/racial name calling that turned into in mere weeks.
Then came the saviour dungeon tool. Now one of the largest problems in wow would not exist in gw2 that is long queue times for dps. But the second problem and the worst would. That is the zero tolerance policy that overtook dungeons. 1 wipe was 1 too many. One mistake, or wrong pull or anything deviating from a smooth run was an instant execution on your group. People would rather leave and jump back into queue than “rack up repair bills with a bunch of noobs”
Given the difficulty that inexperienced groups can have in dungeons there would be an aweful lot of that and overall it would degrade the attitude of the community.
I’m lovin what I see but I wants to see moar!
Well I have to ask since you are on sea of sorrows what are your normal playtimes? SoS has a very large AU population and most of them will be most active during the time when you will most likely be sleeping (that is if you are in the states) I will agree that many lower zones are lightly populated, but that could be a reason for such an extreme scarcity.
Your response had nothing to do with what the op asked. And bc level cap was 70. But onto the subject.
I say it’s a pretty accurate comparison. I’m not sure which would be more costly since the pre req weapon prices keep skyrocketing but you do have a chance to get one via the mystic forge. Compare that to you having to either farm lock boxes (would take you forever) or having to buy thousands of the kitten things. There is less rng involved in the rep grinds for the insane title but there’s a considerable more amount of grinding.
I guess the biggest difference is you can buy your way through most of the achieve in wow if you have the gold. Whereas a legendary in gw2 requires you to do a fair amount of grinding.
I think it has more involved with the stats to get the name.
For example I transmuted a rivetwall shield with a mystic shield and it’s still just called rivetwall.
I’ll have to check my AC sword and see if it picked up the prefix of berserker. I can’t remember.
I love the pvp has no progression.
Dunno why games like street fighter, mortal kombat, marvel v capcom, or counter strike did good at all. All pvp games with 0 progression.
11k views and 50 replys… hit that print screen button people! i want to see some armor
Vjek that is a very dumb statement, if you really think this game is pay to win please go play a real pay to win game like d3 to help you understand the difference.
Gw2 has a gear ceiling that is only inches above incredibly cheap and easy to obtain rare gear. If anything gw2 is pay to get there faster but a skilled player in rare gear will still contend with your full exotic set in pvp or dungeons. That is not pay to win.
In d3 if you purchase the highest top end gear you can get you will unmercifully obliterate a person who is using crafted or found rare gear. That’s called pay to win.
Paying money to be a half step above someone else but they can still take you down, not pay to win.
That is a bit on the ridiculous size, how does one even reasonably carry that on his/her back. I think skyrim has the size down good, they seem to be just a bit bigger than gw2 hammers but not oversized.
Love to see all the nice gear and color combos.
Yes I know a gladuis was standard issue, much like a bayonet was standard issue for riflemen. Which do you think they preferred using.
The point is range, like someone just said, maybe its just cause the picture in my mind is a charr, but using a hammer on him the thing looks shorter than a baseball bat. I know both the GS and hammer have the same range, but visually it looks like I have to stand on top of an enemy to connect with them.
Hey! I’m a men and I’m offende……‘fades to static’
I did say that I had that as an advantage over you, but I didn’t buy stuff from the TP for my crafting. I think that’s where you ended up screwing yourself over a bit.
I did also level with 2 other friends one went jeweler the other went tailor. So between us, I got all the ore and wood, my one friend got all the gems, and my other friend got all the cloth and leather. Maybe see if you can strike a similar bargain with some guildies.
The daggers I am fine with because it’s about being able to actually see the weapon. But a roman soldier would not be happily using a gladuis in a war, it was all about the spear.
Which btw I kinda wonder why there is no polearms usable on land. A spear is the most ancient weapon, most signs point to the first, and yet we can only use one when we go for a swim?
People had no concept of prices in the first couple of weeks when the game came out. Remember how cheap the rare greatswords that weren’t berserker we’re selling for before people realized the value of globs. If it had healing on it the thing was being sold for just a few silver.
Like I said people who had more knowledge of the way the mystic forge works were buying them up most likely. The guy on reddit posted kitten where he had like 5 dusks.
I think lejean was referring to the people that figured out you had a 1/3 chance to get a dusk/dawn from mystic forge and made a kitten load of them. And since the chance is now like less than 10% I’d say it is some form of exploit.
I remember I had more than enough at 60 but I held off buying it. If memory serves me right I would have had like 3 gold leftover.
Since it refunds your traits anyway I didn’t buy the book till I was 80. But I never spent much money on crafting. I might have the bigger advantage over you in that I got to 80 a bit faster when the game released so when I could make rare weapons using wep smithing I’d link it in map chat and get a lot of “omg where did you get that?”
So I did get quite a lot of levels for free by crafting weapons for people using their mats. I did pick up tips too which helped.
A good bit came from people that understood how things worked before the masses, maybe got some info from the closed beta.
There was a post on reddit about how the mystic forge had a ~33% chance to spit out the pre req exotic weapon by combining 4 of the same rares. I’m sure people knew about this well before this person and were stockpiling the weapons.
Of course that person was so kind as to inform the general population after he filed a bug report and the chance to get a pre req wep via mystic forge was nerfed into the ground.
I’m fairly certain there is many dusks and other pre req exotics just sitting in people’s banks waiting till the prices are good enough to sell.
Have you seen the lionguard hammer? That looks smaller than a normal sledgehammer. If you want to talk reality then at least keep them somewhat in proportion with the other weapons. There’s no way you’d choose that over the white starter greatsword if you had to choose a weapon to fight with, based in reach alone.
Some hammers are in a good spot. Others though look like you could almost mistake them for a staff.
wow Rythmless, your norn has some serious abs.
Wow pve is exactly like a puzzle, it looks confusing at first but once you know where the peices go its not a challenge just a matter of putting them in place.
Gw2 pve is more like a rubik’s cube (not sure of spelling) it can be scrambled up differently each time you get it. But as with a rubiks cube there’s a system to solve it. Once you get that system you can just apply it to any situation.
Last time I was at Rata Sum there was literally nobody there, not a living soul. It sort of killed the atmosphere for a buzzing city. I think they should put in unique events for each city, events that promise long term enjoyment. Then people might visit the cities once in a while.
You know I will give wow a pat on the back for Dalaran because they really did pack a lot of neat fluff in that city to keep you occupied. Fishing fountain/sewers, finding potion that turned you into random stuff, hunting down magical books, toy store, tracking down the npc that sells you a sparkle wand.
Sadly they did away with all of that fun fluff in cata but that’s beside the point. It would be cool to add fun fluff stuff in the main cities (not LA) to draw us to congregate there.
I think you misunderstood me Looria (are you a quaggan btw?!) but I understand your point.

Well when your alternative is literally costing you money then I guess you gotta breakdown the cost of load screen vs silver spent.
Yea I got a 48" hd tv for my birthday earlier this year but since I don’t have cable (just watch tv online) It literally just sat on a dresser collecting dust as I thought, well maybe someday I’ll get cable.
Then one day it just hit me I could just use it as my monitor instead and happily did so. I don’t think I could go back to a tiny normal sized monitor ever again.
Why not just get there free via lions arch Morrigan? Or is that one too many load screens :P
Maybe they could just add portals to the different cities in the mists. But I do agree there’s no incentive to go to another city when LA is free via the mists and has it all.
@Ari Kagura
I can relate more than you know. My little pally tank collected all types of shields from wow, but my absolute favorite was always the Aldori Legacy Defender. It’s still transmogged on her to this day even though I haven’t played wow in months.
Quality is a bit rubbish and looks really off to me since I have to up the gamma to compensate for my monitor’s placement, but eh…
Actually found a decent combo of some of the Dungeon armour I’d prefer to get, but still can’t force myself to set foot into those things. :-/
Never really liked the Ithas longbow, but it beats the Pearl skin and it’s a free transmute, so meh. Only have 5Øs as it stands, so it won’t be getting upgraded anytime soon.
That second one looks like shes winking at the camera.
Just was curious as to how people’s characters are developing. I remember like a week after the release having a post about your character but most of us were wearing the same armor since we were all lowbies for the most part.
So i want to see what look/styles people have cultivated in the month and some change time we’ve had to wander around Tyria.
I took a shine to the dredge look minus the vader helm >.>
I will say when I first found out that Tybalt was my partner I was like, oh great a charr (I wasn’t a big fan of the charr at the time) but just after the first mission I fell in love with Tybalt and he warmed me up to the charr.
Good character awesome personality, sad sad ending. Tybalt will truly be missed.
So you aren’t being barred from doing it. And you lie that you don’t mind putting in the work. You’re just being impatient and lazy.
So your answer to my valid objections is to personally attack me and say that i lie, and then add impatient and lazy… Internet, you have to love it, no better argument then lets go insult people.
Guess i am expecting to much from a gaming forum when i expect civilized behaving and discussion…
Your whole arguement was that you had no problem putting the work in for it but it’s just not possible to get some points because your server might not have those points captured cause they are getting dominated.
And then I proceeded to explain that because your position on the map rotates you don’t have to capture it just wait until its your realms turn to own it.
So since your impossible is now possible you either are being impatient because you don’t want to wait for the reset or lazy cause it’s too much work to have to queue for each WvW match 3 times in the span of 3 weeks.
I’ve felt like the returns on my investment are diminishing.
Kidding but I know that topic will soon invade this post, yes very much so I haven’t played a game where each class has so many interesting abilities that I actually want to play them all. Plus the game looks beautiful.
You know I don’t even get why I have to go through this whole rigmarole of leveling and obtaining gear. They should just log you in with all the gear in the game in your inventory, at max level, with all skills unlocked.
Then after I choose the gear I want to equip, if I feel like actually playing all that dumb content stuff, that’s my business. If not eh whatever I already pwnt the game anyway.
Your best counter to what I said is, well usually you do but not always.
So WvW completion takes you 4 weeks instead of 3 oh mah Lerrd.
I am sorry to see so many people missing the main points in the whole thing…
1. Most parts of WvWvW maps are not accessible on many servers out of simple lack of map control, this promotes exploiting of server transfer to complete the achievement
2. PvE players taking up spots for WvWvW on many servers with over 1 hour queues and simply not contributing on the whole WvWvW front just roaming around trying to get one silly PoI or vista to get some achievement that has absolutely no connection to the whole WvWvW they are in atm…
I am simply confused by the amount of answers dont want it dont do it, and what are you afraid of since that has absolutely no sense at all…
It is not impossible to do, each map reset your servers position for bases rotates. That means one week in eternal battlegrounds you’ll be on the top portion, the next week you will be in one of the other 2 positions, the third week you will be in the last spot.
If you enter WvW when the reset happens you can easily get 1/3rd of the map complete with nobody bothering you and you can go back and do the same next week.
So you aren’t being barred from doing it. And you lie that you don’t mind putting in the work. You’re just being impatient and lazy.
Well first off the threat of an ancient powerful dragon that wants to turn everyone undead is a pretty good catalyst for cooperation. I think if our entire planet faced a threat from aliens that just wanted to eradicate all of us we’d learn how to work together pretty quick.
And I. keep seeing the mention of ‘why guilds wars if no wars on guilds?’ I think the answer is from gw1 (though I haven’t played it so I can’t elaborate) and seeing as how this game takes place further down the timeline from that some things may have changed.
But it wouldn’t make much sense for a company that’s using the same lore, characters, races, and world to just go with a completely different name for their game that follows the timeline. At least I think so.
I’m fine with this remove the need for WvW discovery. As long as when you complete it you don’t get the star and the title been there done that has an asterisk * next to it so we all know you didn’t complete WvW.
I mean the achievement does say 100% world completion as in all of it. And WvW isn’t some instanced area that’s made up, it’s a part of the world.
Although I myself don’t like the WvW being tied in to map completion I understand why it’s there and I can deal with it. 100% world completion, I thought, wasn’t going to be something everyone expects to cross of their to do list. I actually thought it was going to require something difficult in the ways of exploration so I was a bit disappointed in that regard.
Btw the WvW maps rotate their position each reset so all you really have to do is discover 1/3rd of the map one week then wait till the reset to discover another 3rd.
I do thank Anet for this game. So far the smoothest launch and most server uptime of any mmo I’ve ever played. Not to mention how beautiful looking the game is.
Btw this thread also has a great second purpose by catching all the people who just have to try to rain on others parade by interjecting their disappointment. Just go through and ignore posts by them.
Well unfortunately the forums after bwe1 were ablaze with MELEE TOO HARD NERF PLX and this is the end result.
I do agree that I liked bwe1 difficulty much better, where pulling 2 mobs actually meant you could die. Now I see people grabbing 4+ and aoeing them to death.
But of course had they not changed it the forums would be completely flooded with how unpossible melee is to play.
You are insane if you think the $60 from each sale goes right into anets pocket. Each one of those $60 sales gets divided up into a ton of different chunks.
I knew a company owner who’s main product sold for $30. Out of that whole 30 he directly got $1 all the rest went to pay for all the expenses and people his business had. Now of course he had several offices selling several hundred a day so it was still good money but the point is that’s how money is broken up.
I don’t know exactly what anets costs are but I’m sure ncsoft takes a healthy portion of that money.
It all has to do with the exact same message and yes even in 2 hours between if you are spitting out the exact same message you’ll get suppressed. It’s not permanent just slightly alter your message. Is it that hard to add an exclamation point or an extra couple of letters.
Having a lot of fun in dungeons.
I think most of your problem comes from doing them at the lower levels where most everyone is just a spec that’s more focused on themselves than group utility. At 80 I’ve seen plenty of organization and understanding of mechanics. I haven’t had a Zerg fest since lower levels.
