ANet Should Kick ALL AFK-ers from map

in Tequatl Rising

Tradewind.6913

Teq and future popular world bosses should get a ready check put in place, say 5 minutes prior to the event beginning. Much like the queue timer is now, if you don’t respond as ready before it expires, you’re moved into overflow or outside of the map. So you’re not starting the event with 30 AFK people and clogging up a zone, forcing others who want to do the event into overflows.

What in the Tequatl fight, amounts to a “well choreographed routine?” That’s the part that confuses me, you’re not building a nuclear reactor people…you have 6 people on some turrets…who’s only real job is to bust scales and clean up poison. Then people defending the turrets and people dps’ing Teq and fingers, people who have to dodge a telegraphed wall of water every…20-30 seconds and don’t stand in poison. Then you defend batteries and a laser a few times. Rinse and repeat.

Exactly this. We need to remember that the game as already set a standard for world events and associated difficulty. Now im all for harder content, and sure, the world bosses should be buffed some. But the coordination required for this goes beyond “pugging”.

If they want to go down this path, great. Just put it as a guild challenge in an instance. Let’s call them “raids” ….

If by standard you mean, mind numbingly boring zerg fest where you can literally just stand there and finish the job with almost no liability or risk? If anything, that’s a standard that should be eliminated.

Or perhaps, just perhaps, the number of people that actually like this kind of content is that small?

Then don’t do it. Nobody’s holding a gun to their head. The fact people are complaining about being constantly put into Overflow would seem to contradict that argument though.

The achievements aren’t going anywhere, Boss Week ones will, but they can be completed without actually killing Teq.

As for the rest, the servers doing well at it so far have a few things in common. One is obviously population and you can’t fix all of that right away, but I’m dubious as to a server’s inability to muster even 100 people to do a fight. To me, it’s just apathy causing that. The other thing these servers have in common is the type of people in there, they’re typically the top performing WvW servers, which suggests to me that a) they listen to directions well from Commanders and such, b) they are going into it with the right gear for that kind of fight. What exactly is stopping everyone else from doing A or B? Simple, ego and stubbornness.

I have raided in very good guilds in both WoW and swtor. I have also managed to finish this event 3 times now. Yet I can easily pinpoint and acknowledge glaring problems without making the mistake of thinking that every person struggling with this content is afraid of a challenge and should really “l2p”.

That’s really not the issue here. The reason I’m voicing my opinion so loudly is because, eventhough I already got it, I feel rather bad for all those people constantly stuck in overflows or who have to do the event with atleast 30-40 people being idle. There is no raidcheck here unless you have a coordinated group who are all on TS, which is only the case on the fullest, most organized servers.

Not sure why you’re quoting me, since none of that is remotely close to what I’m talking about. Fear of a challenge isn’t what’s causing people to lose, but unwillingness to recognize and acclimate to the requirements needed to overcome it. It’s not fear, it’s stubbornness.

Overflow has a disadvantage surely, but it’s only been 2 days. Having any kind of expectations for overflow to do the job is self-defeating. Expectations don’t match reality.

Tequatl is a good case study for when player expectations don’t match reality. This camp seems to have been expecting the same difficulty, but with more “coolness” attached to it. I honestly can’t give much more feedback than that because having done things like raids and such for the better part of a decade, the fun is in the challenge and that feeling you get the first time you kill it. When you feel like you’ve actually accomplished something.

Clearly it is doable, as more and more servers have got the job done as time progresses. The only obstacle to making headway is the stubbornness of players who can’t differentiate between a challenge and a nuisance.

Nothing in game to indicate it? Map chat, guild chat, achievements tied to world bosses, most have dynamic events tied to them not to mention the NPC banter around each of their respective zones.

Don’t get me wrong, good that you’ve found them now too, but I don’t think you’ve really been paying attention if you’ve only just noticed them now.

Now if you want to do them more often and know when and where to be:

Yeah not being able to see an already hard to see ring under water with a reflective surface and therefore being hit, then dodging into another just popping poison field, then being pulled through one by a krait and dying is definitely being a carebear…

Or it could be a badly designed encounter.

Or you could not be using full Zerker gear for it.

If you’re not…yeeeaaaaah, l2p issue.

Yeeeeaaaa not being able to dodge things you can’t see /= l2p. Thanks for trying though!

I’ve yet to do Teq on anything but an Overflow, partly because I am too lazy to try and jam my way into my server’s group right now. As a result, I’ve seen him at 80% at best! But the best part, I don’t even care!

More and more people are killing it, learning the fight and what to do and what not to do. It will eventually get easier. In the meantime, I’m having a blast seeing overflow failing miserably at it and watching him hulksmash the megalaser.

Thought I had with a buddy of mine, who is a condition necro, if the current caps can’t be changed for “reasons.” Condition classes should be able to charge up a power bar, relative to the condition damage that would normally be inflicted. This charged ability can then be discharged for direct damage. Whether it’s just a utility skill, or something granted by a minor trait bonus etc, idk.

Why is there a condition cap anyways?

Outright fix to the RMX Gold Market

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tradewind.6913

That’s probably the driving point behind the whole idea. Make it more costly for the Gold sellers to do business in the first place.

It would make it more costly for the customer.

You think the gold seller is going to take a 15% profit loss rather than passing it on?

:edit:

You would need a stupidly high tax rate to have it be as expensive as the gem – gold exchange rate…

But if that cost was closer to what ANet provides for the Gem>Gold conversion, what’s the point in going to the third parties? Admittedly I don’t know what it’s going for these days from those third parties, never checked.

Hinders them a bit. Since you’d have to look fairly hard to find items not listed on the TP that are in abundance. Ready enough anyway to sell. If they went the route of providing the item to the player to repost, then either that person is losing 15% of what they just paid for, or the sellers are eating an additional 15% cost to reimburse the posting/sale fees. You’d also have to have the money in the first place to place the sell order, which may be prohibitive for the buyers.

@Jestunhi, sure let’s argue semantics. That’s clearly going to help.

You cannot buy karma gear, cultural gear, any dungeon gear through the TP. Are we actually arguing over the concept here that gw2 is or isn’t pay2win?

Stop making excuses and go earn some gold like the rest of us do.

I’m sorry, I thought you were replying to this: “You can buy approximately/almost/just about/pretty much/all items in the entire game from the Trading Post.”

That is discussing the proportion of the ingame items which can be sold on the TP. Note “the entire game”, not “just end-game”.

So that’s what I was talking about too. What exactly are you talking about if not the content of the post which you quoted?

Not to mention that nothing in my post fits any definition of an excuse and I have yet to complain about the speed of earning gold… so you have managed another reply that makes no sense given the rest of the discussion.

Karma gear is end game only now? Cultural gear has 3 tiers starting at level 30 etc. If end-game gear isn’t the point of this then what is? You need to buy gold to afford the 50c-1s buyouts on leveling gear? The gross exaggeration of people on the “pay2win” warpath is just pathetic. That’s all.

As for the excuse, not directed at you specifically, but there are many people here making excuses for it. Being “pay2win” having to buy gold with gems just to make money or that the only way to make gold is to spend all day playing or exploit the system. It’s just sad how quickly people give up. Despite someone explaining how you can make gold by literally doing…nothing.

Why would someone willingly pay more for the exact same thing though? It’s not like you’re buying RC Cola for the same price as a Coke. Again I’m suggesting that your expectations are just out of whack. It might take an item an hour, a day, a week to sell depending on it’s demand. But it does sell assuming people want it. The ones that don’t are the people who put crap up a month ago for 100x what it’s worth and haven’t done anything about it since.

Except you’re going to get people constantly undercutting each other by 2.5%. For the exact same reason they’re undercutting it by 1c. To sell it faster. You drive the value of the item down through repetitive undercutting at a mandatory 2.5% each time. At least with a 1c less buyout the value to the seller remains somewhat consistent. You just can’t expect a sale within 5 minutes on everything.

People buy stuff that is cheaper than other stuff. Part of trying to sell things on the Trading Post is being competitive. Arbitrarily imposing an “undercut” fee on things is just going to make valuable items even less valuable. It’s already irritating when someone undercuts by 10-15% on some items just to make a quick sale. If it lasts too long, then the price has just tanked for everyone else. Has to be a balance.

This is due to the huge hop in resolution. The extra fov gives maybe a 5-10% hit, if that. Everything else is the graphics card trying to draw them pixels. I know what I’m talking about here, I keep having slowdowns on my 30" screen in the more graphically demanding games, because

maybe they are trying to say that if you can see more then the person who cant especially in pvp you have an advantage over them. like when you can see people to the side of you without having to turn and look that it wouldnt be fair to the person who cant see whats on the side of them without having to turn. but i do agree it would be nice to have.

He said exactly that. What he failed to mention (or even acknowledge) is that three monitor setups already do benifit from a wider FoV, a feature promoted by Anet. Not only that, it has barely a performance decrease. This makes the “unfair” argument completely moot, because it already is, to all of us refused the option to increase our FoV to match 3 monitor setup players.

Coming from a developer, he clearly already understands this, making his last point dishearteningly disingenuous.

As someone with a 3 monitor setup, 3x BenQ XL2420T’s on a GTX 690…there is a significant performance difference at 5760×1080 vs 1920×1080 without altering the quality. Just felt that needed to be clarified.

It’s still just making up for a deficiency due to a selfish choice. If your group is now being made to support lack of survivability because a player has effectively culled their stats into MF% for a dungeon, you’re asking them to take on that extra responsibility. For what? A 1% gain in finding rares? Maybe?

Granted if your group is willing to do that, go for it. However it shouldn’t be immediately expected for pugs to pickup the slack of people loading up on MF gear.

Diminishing Returns... for Combat

As well, some games implement a DR on damage received from multiple sources. This way, someone whose job it is to break up an enemy formation, when specced for it, can run into a crowd of fifty people, not only survive for more than three seconds, but shrug off most of the damage if all fifty people start bombing him, and actually manage to move around for quite a while in the enemy lines, to help clear them out. Again, assuming they are specced for this specific role.

I had to stop here and ask what game exactly adds diminishing returns based on the number of people targeting a single player. Because I cannot think of any time when that would be a good thing.
