Why do people keep using the term free to play for buy to play games? What is so difficult about it?
Does it really matter?
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/60838-math-damage-reduction-toughness-and-vitality/
TLDR version is that you stack Toughness if it’s predictable incoming direct damage. Vitality if it’s condition damage.
Dyes look different depending on the material it’s applied to, metal/leather/cloth.
Pretty sure Mario had a carrot on the stick at the end of every castle right up until the last one.
People said cthun was impossible back in vanilla wow… all it took was 40 people who could work together.
except for the part where it literally was impossible until blizzard nerfed it so the top guilds could beat him.
There is a considerable difference between it being “nerfed” and “fixed.” Just thought I’d point that out.
Drop armor repair costs in Dungeons
Drop armor repair costs in WvW
Adjust some mobs in DungeonsEveryone gets a nice beer to drink.
WvW yes.
Dungeons no. You’re being penalized for doing it wrong.
I see this as two things.
1) You’re only being downscaled a few levels in which case, no you’re not some all powerful uber-player and this is working as intended.
2) You are being downscaled to a degree of 50 levels or more in which case you’re doing something incredibly wrong if you’re being threatened by a sub-level-10 wolf while farming mats…
Don’t get too sassy, Charr engineers have perfected a non-selective herbicide aerial bomb. Would be a shame to detonate a few over that stupid tree of yours.
Yeah I’m not 100% sure on the area, all I recall was they were big yellowy/orange shiny kittens.
The world is in ruins, the elder dragons are killing people by the thousands and raising the dead and corrupting the northerners and you humans are focused on PONY TAILS!?
Looks like us Charr gotta come blow up your stupid city again.
I have to agree, the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan fight and the events shortly afterwards were pretty fantastic, right up there (if not beyond) with the same feelings I got from finishing my Sith Assassin’s questline back in SWToR, only without the despair and hopelessness that came afterwards…but that’s another story.
Very well done, whatever you paid Jeremy Soule for this game’s soundtrack wasn’t nearly enough. Knocked it out the park.
Even the Sylvari twigs share no love for the Human’s irritating drama queen!

The Great Imperial Smelter is feeling a little cool today, better dump some more sylvari in to get the heat going.

That is such a buttering buttery idea.

I think we can all agree, using the tp to store items by devaluing them to near worthless is a pretty dumb move.
Seriously, putting items up on TP and then taking a fee cancelling the order in order to just sell them at the vendor? Why not just vendor them when you’re crafting them?? Every profession table has a vendor right there…
But honestly, it doesn’t even come close to ruining the economy. The components that these items are made from are just as valuable, since they are required to level up the profession in the first place.
There’s also vendors strewn around the world.
But no they’re not anywhere near the appropriate cost versus the cost in materials to make them. Leveling tailoring and artifice I had to vendor many items just to make some money back because the same items were going for +1c on the TP, when you’re having to dump gear with master insignias (8x rare crafting item worth 1s or higher each) for vendor price because the TP value is sub 2s something is wrong.
My finding is the opposite for MF gear, it helps a lot for me. The sheer amount of fine material drops and rares that ectos can be salvaged from contributes to the daunting task of getting legendary gear.
Although I’m curious as to how you’ve been farming your powerful bloods with no MF gear to help get you funds and no clear mobs to kill it from except very rare, abysmal drop rate, drops from the trolls in Frostgorge.
I was obtaining them rather frequently from the spirit’s near Doric’s Waypoint in Malchor’s…I’m pretty sure that’s where it was. idk I was only passing through but in the short time there I picked up 4.

Conspiracy theory abounds…
People built up inventory over a week of the TP being down to the point where it was filling their banks. The TP opens up and people, trying to undercut each other with a huge glut of the same exact items, end up undercutting each other to the point where they literally aren’t making any money on the deal.
That’s not some evil-genius stragegy of “wrecking the economy”, it’s supply and demand.
So is it just stupidity or willful ignorance that drives these people to unwittingly ruin the economy? Undercutting to the point of ruining the very economy you’re trying to take advantage of is pretty counter-productive. If this was also the case it would be much more systemic, there are still many items that sell for what could be considered fair value. It’s mostly the crappy blues and green armor/weapons that have this issue.
Unless I’m mistaken… When were legendaries just a “skin”? They’re a tier higher than exotics, better stats.
Big words for a garnish!

I’m not sure you read the suggestion properly, and I think the OPs solution could work quite well. The idea was aimed at clearing out all of the 1c above vendor items which are cluttering the TP currently.
However, I think there’s still a flaw in that argument. It would technically stand a chance at clearing out all the crap from the TP, but there would be nothing stopping people from continuing the existing practice and setting them for 1 above vendor.
(and I agree, it has occurred to me also that it’s the gold sellers who are doing this deliberately, wrecking the economy for others).
Except there is no “current practice,” beyond storing items. At 1c above vendor it’s the lowest possible price the person can set it for storage so it has the lowest “fee” attached to it. Multiply that by thousands if not tens of thousands of people doing it, what do you get? A poisoned price floor. By allowing people to set it even lower, is just going to lower that price floor. Because you only have 3 options when selling something, match lowest seller, sell to an open buy order (usually at a loss too…) or set your own price and have it never sell because of all the +1c’ers using the TP as a personal bank overriding the fair value prices. Nobody is going to willingly pay more just because a subset of listed items is earmarked as “storage.” That’s ludicrous.
The practice of storing on the trading post is destroying the game’s economy from the ground up.

This is the worst idea ever. The people using the TP as their mobile storage center are the ones who are absolutely crippling legitimate sellers from making any profit what-so-ever. Because we’re all beholden to these stupid “at vendor +1c” priced items and would have to match it at a loss after the posting fee and sales fee.

Except it’s not something that is going to be implemented as a toggled option. It’s either all or none. What would be the point in it being an optional feature?
ps. trying to sate a discussion and then calling someone a “fanboi” is a bit hypocritical.
I’ve read your other posts too, you just seem to be arguing for the sake of defending GW2. I’ve removed the fanboi comment, since you seem to have taken exception to it.
Why wouldn’t a toggle feature work? Why is it all or nothing? It’s not your call to make anyway. The point of it being optional would be that for those who enjoy it as is = they can have it. If you don’t like it.then shut it off.
We are going to have to just agree to disagree then because if you can’t see the inherent problem with having a toggle option for level downscaling, given all the reasons given as to why it exists in the first place, then there really is no room for discussion.
This is just flat out a poor suggestion and obviously not thought out at all.
oic, so what can I buy?
High level crafting materials including those needed for Legendaries at 200 a pop.

Except being 80, even downscaled, you already do have an advantage in the quality of gear, traits and skills available.
I do like the idea, and I would imagine the inclusion of something like this is already on the block. But I wouldn’t expect to see it any time soon.
Really you make my point for me because firstly they don’t scale the drops. a level 10 drops level 10 armor, etc. Secondly they don’t scale XP, or not nearly enough. When I want XP its more prudent to go to an area that you are 3-5 levels under. Its a waste of time leveling by killing lower levels
…Then go to a higher level area and level there? The real reason you’re making this suggestion is because you don’t want to take the time to kill things to get to gathering nodes. It has nothing to do with leveling, so don’t try and rebrand it to that.
That’s not entirely untrue. Why should I fight level 5’s when i want to collect say copper? That part is true for sure. Still, why would I want to fight a level 5 the drops aren’t scaled to my level and the exp is almost non existent?
Because you are not a unique and special snowflake? If a level 5 has to go through the same mobs to get the same copper, why shouldn’t everyone else?
I recall messing with graphics settings and there was one that seemed to reduce the ground clutter a bit. Sadly I don’t recall which one, but it was in there.
I’m somewhat saddened that the concept of “real raiding” has been so horribly distilled into the concept of an “instanced romp to kill trash and bosses” thanks to other MMO’s.
I actually skipped most of the western map, I got my first waypoint outside of the sylvari city/tree thing/whatever just the other day.

Unless you play an Elementalist, you wont understand our pain. It has come to a point where people don’t even accept Elementalists to their dungeon groups. Don’t act like “The Moral High Authority” and keep posting BS here.
I do have an 80 Elementalist and played an Ele throughout the BWE’s. I also enjoy it, considerably. Shocking I know.
Map exploration, including the 100% completion rewards, are not meant to be some trivial matter: “oh hey, you’re level 80 now feel free to go complete 90% of the map in 2 hours.” Considering most map completion rewards scale by your actual level (not all, but some of it) being able to plow through it all with ease is hardly “rewarding.” At the same time, lower level content is to be experienced evenly by all players, having a guy who out levels the area come through and carry you for a while is counter-productive.
And all that said and done you do have a combat advantage against lower level mobs, a significant one just in skills and gear quality alone.

I heard in GW2 you can only play one profession.
YEAH REROLL.
Yeah… clearly. Get out of this sub-forum please.
And yes edit the misleading class description.
And no Meteor shower doesn’t do any damage at all. It tickles compared to what everything other classes have.PvE-wise elementalist are fine because monsters are useless standing still which makes our very slow and very delayed ability actually hit them.
But for PvP. Having an elementalist on your side usually means you will loose.
Yeah it’s much more constructive to tell new players “don’t bother playing this profession!” If you wanted to flood the game with more mesmers, engineers and thieves it could be accomplished with a much shorter thread with far less angsty passive aggression than this one.
Don’t like the prof, don’t play it.
(edited by Tradewind.6913)
Works great for pretty much everywhere else, the idea of being able to play the game easily without staring at a “Realm is full, estimated wait time 2 hours” is in my opinion the greatest thing since bagel bites.
Could the same thing not be added to WvW? Clearly it’s going to be a bit skewed as I’m sure there is population imbalances everywhere, so the second part of the suggestion is the meaty bit.
WvW Overflow within the current WvW cluster (same 3 servers as in the real thing), same format but with 3 random teams. Can either be the same points system as it is now or make it frivolous with no points system and more or less a roaming pvp deathmatch. Who knows, but it’s certainly far more engaging than farming Orr for 2 hours while the queue ticks away.

or at very least have it after a week notify the poster and ask them if they wish to remove it or repost it at a new price.
basically a friendly nudge that hey this might not go at this price
Exactly, just something to pull extremely overpriced and poorly positioned supply down from the trading post and give those people an opportunity to re-introduce that previously frozen supply into the market again. Hopefully driving the current prices down a tad.
There are far too many items stuck at day 1 prices (ie. Platinum Doubloons for 6 gold ea.) which while they may not directly impact the decision of someone selling an item to set their buyout at the current price. They do however sit in a miasma and pull additional supply out of the market indefinitely. Causing the current price to stagnate and remain higher because the current supply cannot always meet the current demand because there is a supply of items locked in at, sometimes, ridiculous prices.
If anything it will help normalize the prices across the board without making the value for exotic and limited quantity items suffer.
So in short, timed expiration of buy/sell orders with the deposit refunded.
As an elementalist that runs D/D I tend to use mostly the gear with the stat “Carrion” which is power, vitality, and condition damage.
Except you’ll find that your condition damage is almost always overwritten in group events by any other class adding burning/bleeds. I haven’t tried D/D in explorable modes yet, I usually prefer staff for that so I can’t comment on it’s effectiveness there. Since you should be stacking your debuffs in the group, it might work. But I would imagine D/D would spend a lot of time on their backs in explorable modes.
Personally I prefer Knight’s sets for explorable modes, power/precision/toughness. Other times just Berserker’s, power/precision/crit damage. Accessories are almost always Knight’s.
Are you running both Steam and GW2 as an Admin?
Miracles.
Seriously, nobody came up with that until now?
You’ll likely want to get a new power supply as well, the one packaged with that Asus desktop is likely going to be a bit under-juiced.
I find overflow has more people in it and is more often than not a bit “laggier.” I usually change just because I can.
