Posted this in another thread that’s having “page 2 bug” issues, so here we go…how I basically make my Gold by doing nothing. Literally, I put up buy orders, go level…come back to town before I wanna log off, do my stuff and resell it all. Come back next day to a pile of money.
For those asking how to make gold, I have about 50 now between what I have on hand and some investments. The key part is the last part, it is going to be a long hard road if you think you’re going to make a lot of money selling your blues and greens. As many people have found out they’re not worth much on the TP, partially because of poor undercutting but largely because they are abundant. Same goes for practically all rare weapons. What you need to grasp is the concept of taking a loss now for possibly higher gains later. Ways to do that is leveraging your crafting disciplines, making a decision on whether to salvage or not and how much are you willing to spend at the possibility of doubling, tripling or quadrupling that investment.
Not long ago, you could make a small fortune on Superior Runes of the Pirate, for obvious reasons, people wanted them and were willing to pay for them. The materials to make them were cheap, you could quite literally buy a Platinum Doubloon and two Gossamer Scraps to make a Superior Rune of the Pirate and have anywhere from 10-15s in pure profit. Not so much now, however they still sell for 40-45s you just need the Doubloons which are somewhat abundant. Abundant enough that it’s worth trying for. This is what I mean by leveraging your crafting.
For Jewelcrafters, your biggest hurdle is Globs of Ectoplasm, however some Exotic accessories sell quite well, in the 2-3g range. Start salvaging your rares for ecto’s when it makes sense to do so. Use either the Black Lion Salvage kit, or a Mystic Salvage Kit or the Master’s Salvage Kit on Level 68+ rares for a chance at 0-4 Ectos. The caveat here is you need to know what that Rare is going for. If it’s going for more than 30s, preferably 40s or more, try and TP it. If it sells you’ve made enough in profit to get at least 1-2 Ectos. If it’s anything below that in the 20s range. Salvage it. You might get burned with nothing but Mithril or some Silk in return, maybe the cheap major sigil on it, but you could luck out. Start turning those into Exotic accessories and you’ll be rolling in gold. This works for non JC’s too, just a bit less dramatic, but Ecto’s are almost a guaranteed sell. So if the math works out and with a bit of luck, you should be getting a higher ratio of Ecto’s from each rare. Is it going to work overnight? Not likely, but a week, couple weeks, you’ll be looking at returns of 3-5g from the TP, well on your way to maybe stepping it up a bit.
I and others prefer to make it by literally gambling on the Mystic Forge. Between trying to trade up cheap Rare Dyes for better Rare Dyes can turn 40s into 2-3g pretty fast if you get lucky. It’s all about how much you’re willing to risk. I have no qualms with dropping 2-3g on cheaper materials on the Trading Post in large quantities and literally transmuting it in the forge into gold. Doesn’t always work, but if you stick with it and don’t act cheap about it (ie. don’t buy 20…buy 200) you’ll find that generally you’re making profit. It’s enough of a return that I feel lucky enough to try buying rare weapons and armor directly and trying to reforge it into Exotics. Because a 1-1.5g gamble can pay off big time.
I do these things every day and have yet to end a day lower than when I started, it’s almost always break even or profits. Don’t get discouraged though if you do go down, you can always build it back up again with Ectos etc.

Looks like a Siamese cat with progeria in a sweater!
Charr look great in heavy armor if you turn the helmet graphics off. Otherwise you look like a cat with it’s head stuck in a bucket.
On the whole I agree with this.
What does give me pause, however (as a fanboi), is people who have reached 80 who say the endgame PvE just isn’t fun (in the sense of not being particularly challenging, i.e. the dungeons just aren’t very good, very challenging, etc., in the way that raid content is in some other games).
But on the other hand, I’m fairly confident that that’s precisely the sort of thing Anet are on the watch for, and prepared to improve, and add content that’s actually good. If I’m justified in my confidence, we’ll see GW grow and evolve in that way – as Anet get a feel for the playerbase, they will create content, and evolve the virtual world, so that in the future, a few years from now, nobody starting the game who loves challenging and varied endgame content will have cause for complaint.
I like this post but sadly it’s going to go ignored by most people either a) not reading this thread and go on to start their own later or b) they just don’t believe you. Which is sad.
People seem to not realize this is only the first iteration. First of many. This isn’t some xbox game where what you see is what you get, updates are made, content is updated and added. There’s no guarantees that it’s going to change a bunch but at the same time there’s no guarantees that it won’t be improved for the better. Just have to wait and see.
Nuts to all of this combat inclusion, should be limited to city only cosmetic gold sinks. Put some shinies on it, throw your guild emblem on there and have at it.
very weak against multiple regular mobs (Mesmer, Thief, non-staff Ele). Both lists are not complete (these are just from my experience).
Errr? What?
As for the OP yeah it can be annoying, but it shouldn’t be that much of an issue. Unless it’s respawn after respawn over and over and over. But 1 extra mob on top of 1 shouldn’t be a problem :\

Did I miss something with condition damage builds, do they do absolutely zero direct damage now? Power (and to a lesser extent crit damage) is the only one that directly improves the damage range of the skill independent of other stats. Crits add to the burst capability but cannot be relied upon and their overall effectiveness is still dependent upon Power.
As has already been said Condition Damage just needs improving on some abilities.
From a balance perspective too, if a condition damage build benefits from Power, even only 50% then they can maintain their current performance but add more survivability trading Power/CD/xxx gear to Power/Toughness/Vit gear, above and beyond what another class could provide themselves as they have to balance power/precision and survivability.

“About 15 of us went after one of the towers close to the enemies port in. We took it and held it all night (our sides zerg saved us a few times.)”
What kind of rewards were given out for this? It seems to me the play mechanics are there, the reward system is what needs work…
I watched a football game and my team won, the game was exciting I had a few beers and spent time with friends and other fans, I had a lot of fun, unfortunately afterwards I was not given a present. Therefore I must rate the whole experience a 1 out of 5.
Save the dodges for the knockback, typically speaking it’s the one ability they have that does the most damage or leads to a lot of unmitigated damage while you’re downed.
But then you’re double dipping on primary stats with Power/Condition damage gear. They just need to raise the coefficient for conditions and condition damage, not start applying other primary stats to it.
Wait a minute, shouldn’t Zhaitan be as big as a mountain range or something ? And you guys killed him with 1 ship ? Hopefully it will get fixed before I get to that point.
http://www.guildmag.com/wp-content/uploads/Zhaitan.jpg
Also, shouldn’t that epic fight be truly epic ? With like hundreds of players all over the place ? Come on ANet, change it to something that will remain in memory for years.
That’s not Zhaitan. Maybe Jormag.
The community completely SUCKS. Stop being so defensive.. We are simply requesting an awesome feature. Not kittening about it. Grow up.
Because your opinion is more valuable than anyone else’s? They are entitled to share their viewpoint just as much you are.
As someone who is stuck in 4 hour queues in [that other mmo] when I get home from work, to the point where I haven’t been able to level anything with my guild yet…I would say that Overflow servers are the greatest thing Anet put into this game. That varies though, shared gathering nodes is a close 2nd.
As for what I find the “worst” it’s actually harder to pick that one out. I find most common problems are nothing more than a minor nuisance or irritation because it’s inconsequential to my gameplay. I would say if I had to pick it’s just the random broken skill points, but on a scale of 1-10 for the rage meter that’s a 4 at best. Because I know I can just come back and do it later.
haha people think GW2 is a grind still.

No offense but I’m not reading that. I read some of it and it just sounds like you didn’t actually know what the game was about before buying it.
I will agree on mounts being needed in WvW. It’s a travesty traveling back and forth when you don’t have the waypoints.
WvW needs to have the travel time, otherwise every single battle is just a mess. Nothing would ever get accomplished, it’s built around the idea that dead people have to run back, sometimes a large distance.
It’s pretty naive to think that the complaints and most of the issues being brought up are shared by half of the game’s subscriber base. The math just isn’t there.
I wouldn’t be so sure that it’s less though. Remember that SWTOR lost 75% of its players after 4-5 months, mostly due to issues with endgame.
The number may not be that high for GW2 yet, but I see no novel reason why it won’t go exactly the way SWTOR did.
Numbers aside, what is clear is that the playerbase is divided on happiness with endgame.
The difference there is that BioWare was incredibly slow at making changes and the vast majority of those changes made no sense. I gave them 3 months subscription to do something about even the basic concerns and nothing positive happened, some things just got worse etc. If SWTOR at the time wasn’t subscription based, it wouldn’t be such a big deal, but I cancelled after the 3rd month because I wasn’t feeding them cash anymore. Even now that it’s essentially F2P, I can’t be bothered as I have other things to play now.
Overall people have a point and everyone have a different taste when it comes to having fun. So don’t join the cheering crowd and listen what others stating.
There is as much criticism as there is cheering. Some will not have it, however.
In reality, those that are pointing things out really want this game to shine.
You don’t see any “I Quit” threads or anything of that nature, only Mods locking constructive criticism threads.
You can have the game the way it is, one half happy, and expand on other aspects, satisfying both crowds.

The opposite is also true.
No it isn’t really, but even just basing off forum numbers the amount of actual complainants is maybe 3% of the population. That was assuming unique posters for all threads and replies, inflated numbers on the side of complaints and including repeats of the same topic. So even that 3% is quite generous imo.

It’s also not as if people are suggesting that everyone who doesn’t like it to just kitten off and never come back. Try it again later on, maybe after new content is released. The advantage being, you’re not months behind on loot, you have no subscription, everything is there for you when you get back.
you could just select the TP npc…
Some people haven’t quite mastered the skill necessary to get their mouse cursor to transcend layers of players swamping the npc to be able to actually highlight it.
Is this going to turn into a “stop liking what I don’t like” thread?
sports events
Maybe he’s a Cubs fan?
I shouldn't be punished for forgetting to res b4 logging out of WvW

Stop rage quitting….problem solved.
idk, it might be tough to resist the urge after being 2’d by a Thief to death.
I remember the first time I had alcohol.
About 48 between in hand and investments.
Uhh because fun is not a goal, rather an adjective used to describe something? Are you stupid?
This being an MMORPG, progression is usually the most fun part. The feeling of power growing and accumulating new skills and abilities.
When you figure out how to sit there and do “fun” you let me know how I can do the samekitten
Hostile much? That’s your definition maybe, if becoming a precious snowflake e-star on video games is somehow “fun,” then yeah I could see how you’re having trouble achieving that goal.
For other people it’s playing a game with friends. Doing some dungeons, some pvp and having a good time. I’m sorry you’ve forgotten how to do that or obviously made a bad purchasing decision when you didn’t read up on what this game is offering you.
PS. if you’re going to be indignant or call other people stupid, might want to make sure your snide commentary is accurate. The word “fun” isn’t just limited to acting as an adjective.
(edited by Tradewind.6913)
Why can’t “fun” be a goal?
I know, I know…opinions are great and all but threads like this and the opposite ones like “zomg no endgame” “dungeon grinds durr”…it’s like bringing Bacon to a Bar Mitzvah. It’s just going to rile people up.
if Deep Sea Dragon involves underwater combat in it’s current state I might just shoot myself in the face.
Oh good, I give this about an hour before it smells like a farm in here.
Sigils on your mainhand will trigger a cooldown for all sigils, it’s almost pointless to have it on more than one weapon. Goes for swapped weapons too as has been my observation.
Might be a bug, idk.
I have no issues with it, just don’t stab or shoot me anywhere below the chest and it’s good. But my cans can withstand tank fire.
(edited by Tradewind.6913)
What’s wrong with jumping puzzles? Also, there’s a difference between actual jumping puzzles and having to climb something to get to a vista. Namely, getting to a vista often requires nothing more than hopping up a few rocks.
I think dungeon drops might be dependent on contribution, but I have no idea.
So that’s why my elementalist never gets any good drops.
ba-dum-dum-tsch
The progression focused player base is not worth retaining, at least for this game.
GW2 is a one time purchase, to expect it to have regularly added progression after initial purchase is ridiculous.
Except for that one-time price you’re going to get free content updates for the life of the game.
Bugged or not finished, either way it’s not working as intended.
Fight.
Is.
Bugged.
how many of you would like to play it?
Since it reminds me of the last 2 hours of my day at work, my answer would be no.
Since we just had one of these threads. Where exactly is there a grind? You can quite easily complete an explorable set in a week and that’s playing “casual hours.” Additionally since you have to actually clear the dungeons now for the tokens, I’m not sure where your point is going.
I think more of those types of players need to be shown that the only reason there is an advancement and progression model is so you keep subscribing every month. Not unlike a crack dealer.
Really loved Arah story mode, the 2 Dragon Champion fights on the ship were extremely amusing for some reason, the parts before them as well.
Although Zhaitan, that’s supposed to be the big thing here, got me a bit disappointed. Protecting a stupid laser and then spamming the “2” button on the cannon while he latches onto a tower is really, really boring.
The last fight was (and possibly still is) bugged.
http://www.gw2cartographers.com/ is a good bookmark to have as well, somewhat relevant to the question :P
I dont think A-Net will add Marriage in the game because they don’t want to develop certain issues. C’mon, they call it “Wintersday Festival” not “Christmas Festival” even if in Chinese MMOs they do.
Yeah they risk slighting some special interests group along the way and it would just turn into some gargantuan cluster kitten.
he he, cluster kitten.
That’s Cursed Shore, not WvW.
I think there’s been a steady downshift in how much grinding is needed, but it’s still there. It’s ingrained in a game like WoW because of the RNG nature of loot…or seemingly RNG (getting the same kitten 5 weeks in a row and DE’ing it, starts to get questionable). So if you want something, you have to go back and do it over and over and over until it drops. But even by that comparison the supposed “grind” in GW2 is far less than even current WoW, and much much less than 2005.
Realistically though, if you want to talk grindy MMO’s, play EVE. In that you can’t even avoid it really. It’s almost a fundamental principle in that game.
