Clearly the hornet’s nest has been stirred up. Just having a good time here.
I take this topic seriously.
What topic? Righteous indignation?
I’m stunned people are getting offended by this lol. Something that is actually positive. This is why we can’t have nice things.
Just treat it like you would after noticing they didn’t scan an item in at the till at the grocery store. Say nothing and just be happy with your luck!

I was helping old people learn to surf the net. Talk about needing patient.
Yeah, have to put on a good poker face when they start scrolling down a page by clicking on the “down arrow” on the scroll bar 3 lines at a time.
How is it any different teaching a girl to play than a guy? Whatever!
Most guys have been into video games from an early age, she is just getting into it.
Still has nothing to do with her gender. I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember.
You can’t blame him, it’s a pretty understandable stereotype. Video Games are almost always seen as the “guy’s” domain. Should instead be lauding him at trying to help break that stereotype by getting more girls interested.
Insert obligatory computers in the kitchen comment.
What? Just getting it out of the way before someone who actually means it comes in and says it.
Make her play something like Doom. Half an hour of killing the spawns of Hell she should have enough of a grasp of WASD movement to play anything. If that still fails, there’s always Angry Birds.
When I think of “grind” I think of slogging through Molten Core in 2005 for months to get one thing I needed and being presented week after week with Nightslayer Shoulders and kittening Thunderstrikes. Then repeating it in BWL, AQ ad nauseum.
People are clearly missing the point that he is a “Humor Critic.” Probably the only purely positive review I’ve ever watched of his was for Minecraft.
But nobody is left behind here, you can get Exotics in a number of different ways. The only thing you’re missing is the “look”, the “style.” There is no stats difference between a Power/Precision/Crit Explorable exotic and a Berserker’s Exotic from the Trading Post.
but each way is a grind. Karma, materials or dungeon tokens.
I guess your definition of grind involves “anything that takes time.”

It’s multiplicative, but your math is off. 3% means 0.03. So it would be Chance + Chance*MF%. Or in your example, .5 + .5*0.03 = 0.515%. 100% MF would double the chances of finding rare gear.
As for what they mean by “rare” idk, I assume “rare” just means anything that isn’t white(basic) quality.
I’m curious what your experience thus far with dungeons is.
I don’t want to change the topic but I think they are quite braindead. Not much teamwork required to prevail. I brain afk while doing the trash and just roll when I see a circle on the floor, or a projectile moving towards me. Easy click immobilize if a melee is too close.
It needs to change for more teamwork, test your reactions and not your ability to strafe etc.
I think it is relevant to the discussion. If you’re saying that they need to be harder, it’s important to know what you have done so far for comparison. As there is varying degrees of difficulty already present in the explorable modes. Your “Tiers” as it stands, already exist in that Flame Legion gear is easier to obtain than Orrian gear.
Not if it’s going to be pooping everywhere.
I’m curious what your experience thus far with dungeons is.
Weren’t you the one cawing about Elitism earlier?
So your solution is to make getting gear prohibitively difficult for more people. This is somehow the solution to it being a “grind?”
Because it is not a grind. It doesn’t even come close to it. It’s even less time consuming since the last patch. I’m curious what your mmo experience is, just for reference here.
I think we can all agree on one thing and say that this game needs improvements and will hopefully be expanded on (For Free!) to include more variety in PVP, which I personally feel should have been there to begin with. And ofcourse try to sort out the long queue times in WvW one way or another. The way it is i’d have liked to have played the game longer, but without being able to play one of the main aspects left in the game, I found myself with nothing more to do.
You will have to keep waiting for WvW then. Otherwise do as the devs suggested and switch servers. If you can move all your friends, just move. On IoJ my WvW times during prime time are around 5-15 minutes.
I used to get disenfranchised with the whole 2-3 hour queues on Henge, but then once I started getting in there more regularly I realized why and ceased to care lol…but 5-15 mins would still be awesome.
That being said I enjoy my Mesmer a lot more than my 80 Ele. :P
Most unintentionally hilarious thread of the year.
On topic, yes it would be nice to actually be prompted with the motd somehow, though maybe just in chat.
How is someone having more gear than you Elitism? Are they whispering you linking it or dancing around in your face? It’s not Elitism, it’s jealousy, on your part.
You’re expecting handouts immediately upon hitting 80 and you clearly do not understand the concept of a grind.
Not really, just agreeing with other peoples opinions. Nothing wrong with hovering over these forums to put my input into peoples threads. Perhaps I should same the same about you Tradewind for responding in threads saying how wonderful and magical this game is?
Far be it for me to try and explain the concept you’re clearly missing. Maybe erudite something you may have missed out on. So you could start having fun.
If you have a quote of me saying how “wonderful and magical” it is, please feel free to share it. Game has it’s fair share of problems, I however realize that it’s a process, but like everything your mileage may vary.
It sure would be nice to get relevant gear, but it’s still a means to an end. Trade up for it. If you receive everything you wish for, where’s the incentive to go out and get anything?
imo it’s to discourage the idea of suicide runs. If you have to pay for dying like you would normally, you have to actually put some effort in to try and survive and be effective. Not just running into machine gun fire like a ww1 trench solider.
It’s just good, simple fun, casually play, come and go type of game.
So is Guild Wars 2.
No it’s not, it’s a log in, wonder what to do, queue up for WvW for hours on end kind of game.
In your opinion, sure. Which you have made abundantly clear. So I’m curious as to why you’re still here? I mean, isn’t the definition of madness, to keep trying the same thing over and over but expecting different results? Surely if the game is this maddening to you, you have other options.

Quaggan sushi.

You can get a full set of exotic dungeon gear within a week, even less if you mix and match karma rewards and crafted stuff. How is that in any way shape or form a grind? The only way it could be less of a grind is if it was mailed to you when you hit 80.
Then perhaps it’s just not for you?
GW2 is not loot driven though, a Rare with power/precision/vit is going to have the same amount as another Rare with power/precision/vit of the same level. So really you’re going to get more vendor loot from it, maybe the occasional thing worth selling on the Trading Post. But you’re not going to “feel” different or more powerful just cuz your bags are full. Or is there another point?
The game is only 1 month out to the world. Give it some time.
Because it’s not a “review” in the strictest sense. It’s just humorous to see what sort of analogies he comes up with and his “angry words.”
People who like to equate the drive to play mmo’s to “progression”/ “obtaining stuffs” as opposed to “having casual fun” are likely to be disappointed. Nothing wrong with that imo. But I fail to see how threads like this do anything to fix the issue and only serve to exacerbate an already tenuous connection between the two player types.
Pretty typical for Yahtzee. I think he gets upset that every game he plays isn’t Psychonauts.
I don’t get his objection to a lack of story of purpose or however he put it. I felt much more “connected to my journey” in GW2 than any other MMO.
But, alas, everyone has their thing.
Likely due to his loathing of most mmo’s he didn’t get very far into it lol.
I love it lol. In the context of a Yahtzee review, I’d say that was positive!
Just, you know, getting the facts right :P
He’s been broken about 5 days now.
He would have reset on Tuesday when the patch came out. I think you mean to say, “He’s been broken everytime I’ve checked for the past 5 days.”
Yeah I love it. Keeps you on your toes!
This is why it’s important to know who you’re going with, obviously if you’re pugging that’s not always possible. But varying your group’s conditions helps a ton in this case. That being said, it would be nice if some conditions were split between sources. But at the same time, you’re still contributing by stacking the bleed intensity and maintaining it.
@Craven,
I’ve actually seen that habit displayed often while on my Ele. If I pump out a healing rain and a geyser, it’s often earned me some attention, especially on boss fights.
Good luck tanking anything with an ele
You’ve got 2 dodges, as well as mobility skills on dagger and staff with a reasonable cooldown, a utility skill shield, a utility skill invuln and two from traits at 50% and 25% HP. With some changes in a setup it’s not difficult to “tank” for a moment. It’s naive to assume that you’re not going to have to do it once in a while.
The concept of aggro is so closely tied to the Holy Trinity that it’s unlikely to change. Every class has a means to “tank” so to speak, if you’re built for it. Insomuch that if you do gain aggro from a mob you should be able to survive. The key here is body blocking, if you have someone who it setup to take the brunt of the damage they can block the target in. Otherwise you’re relying on control mechanics to keep them at bay.
Think about it really, the concept of “aggro” is unrealistic. Not to anthro things too much but from a mob’s perspective…“Am I going to keep beating up on this guy who is clearly not dying, or do I go for that squishy light armor guy back there and make theirkitten mine?”
Read the dungeons thread for incredibly good reasons why this is the dumbest thing to hit GW2 since Anet started letting just anyone make their changes on a whim.
I see people complaining, justified I guess…then Devs asking for details…then more people just complaining and still no details being provided. I think it’s some unwritten rule that people live to just make other’s jobs harder for no reason, even when they’re trying to help.
Post was meant to be whimsical, not necessarily threatening. It just mirrors what happens with the Henge WvW scores as there is a strong Oceanic contingent on our server.
If you look under Controls near the bottom you can set a key to un/sheath the weapon. It’s not necessarily permanent, but a quick keystroke to remove the weapon again or sheath it if the need arises.
Again you’re precluding the notion that you have to actually invest some time into it. 10g is 10g regardless if it needs 1 or 2 items of high value or 20-30 of lower value. You said there’s no “reliable” methods remaining to obtain crafting mats. That’s one reliable method…and actually takes considerably less time to do it.
Oh now you’re making up numbers for me and apparently everyone selling the materials is a bot. You’re on a roll. Again, try picking up your sleeves instead of clamoring for appeasement.
p.s. if you hadn’t figured it out, the best way around it is to seek out more valuable items and buy the raw materials you need. Typically at a profit beyond farming them in the first place. That’s some free community help.
