Looking to get into wvw

As a few have already mentioned pvp really helps out. Also another few things i would consider is, if you do decide to take peoples advice on trying pvp first, not only learn your class thoroughly, also learn your enemies classes, and how to counter them etc.

When your in WvW get familiar with each map your in, look at where the structures are, their names, easy routes to them, so if you do go down you can get back to the action asap. Watch map chat and learn the lingo. Get on your servers TS, follow instructions well and follow commander that way you will always be learning as your playing. Never try being a hero and separate yourself from the zerg (dont leave the zerg to chase down single enemies), guaranteed some guy will have his sights set on taking you out and will wait for the right moment, to have success.

All in all there is a lot to learn from how the game mode works to score, tiers of structures, siege placements, supplies, upgrades, supply camps, tower, keeps, ruins, dollies, the list can go on and on, and when your in there playing it you will pick it up bit by bit and you should enjoy it.

Best advice anyone can give you is to ask for help, yes you will get some child who was born a pro calling you a noob in map chat but 9/10 you’ll get the odd whisper saying “i’ll help you out” or a cheeky party invite, in which case you make some new friends on the way.

For those that are curious the OP transferred to WSR I believe before linking was a thing back when we were trying to make our way out of bronze.

Back then we had no queues on any border but lots to do, always busy and a small group of 10 could be a major thorn in the side of the enemy server. I fondly remember my friends and I holding air keep on RoF border repelling attack after attack from those on the border before they got 3-4 groups to attack 4 different points at the same time and essentially Zerg it with what looked like 40-50 people. Funny thing is they flipped it but I hid at inner and ported everyone back in to get it back 5 mins later to begin the fun again.

So yeah the OP came to WSR to build up his guild and PPT not to be with some overstacked server ganking people and blobbing.

ok, but from how it sounded this is all fresh, like they just transferred and got relinked etc. I mean if they have been on wsr for some time now this is not the first time they have been linked with FSP and certainly would of in the past numerous times been linked to a tier 1 stacked host and encountered large queues. In which case id probably ask why this post now and not all the other times there were queues.

I do see where the Op is coming from its annoying being shuffled around from one host to the next, but now linking has been around for quite some time, wouldn’t it be wise to pick a host server instead and one that is less likely to be a fast climber to tier 1 at the first sign of a link? You gotta take into consideration too that re-linking has only just taken place and things will quieten down a little soon enough.

So when did you transfer to wsr for a less populated experience? was this while they were linked to Piken floating around tier 1-2? or when you noticed them freshly linked with FSP, who are obviously gonna climb with any type of link? Why not just transfer to a host like ROF in the first place. lets be honest if your transferring to a linked server (not a host) then your future will always be uncertain in regards to population issues. Servers like FSP and Piken, infact probably any host only need that 1 link to mean the difference between tier 5 or tier 1.

Relinking - make the next 2 months better

Anet put something in place which most of us voted for. it started as a solution and would probably of continued as one, but the players insist bandwaggoning to a linked server which will have the most favourable outcome. This is basically fighting against the system that was put in place, then blaming Anet for it falling apart. I mean yes they not doing this system any favours in making it so easy to transfer so frequently but the players that are looking for the easy wins arnt helping either.

Yeh it probably does need another vote now we have all seen what linking is about or maybe a mid period readjustment. Personally i would put a cap on transfers, to 2 times a year per account, and let nature take its course with this current linking system. Maybe in desperate situations if you had hit your cap you could apply to Anet to look into your reasoning to be allowed to transfer past your cap, but dont make it so easy.

It always boils down to that one thing that mucks it up, “the players”, and thats something which is not so easily fixable.

Identities of Linked Worlds

I really think the idea people have been mentioning about using each servers (and linked worlds) abbreviated tags, example: [GH+RoF+UW]. Nobody feels left out like this so they can maintain what little is left of server pride they can.

In addition to this a lot of people me included say that server pride/identities started to die out on the introduction of mega server, and i think thats partly down to losing the days that we were able to go to LA (or any other busy city), and call for help/recruit/or even encourage WvW activity through PvE/PvX players. People dont bother these days because if they were to try this in LA these days a lot will be from other servers. I know the system will try and place you in a copy of a map with players from same party, guild, language, and home world etc, but with so many guilds recruiting these days across whole region being categorised due to your home world would probably be far down on the list i can imagine. I think to bring back the feel of a server community and server pride where we can still recruit into WvW guilds, we can still call for help, we can still encourage WvW activity from the rest of the server who primarily play other game modes, you could introduce a server/world chat like:
/Far Shiverpeaks. At least we can still keep our community going in game even build on it and improve it, bring more into WvW etc. Just a slightly off topic idea thats all.

New EU-Linking: Your opinion

In my opinion I think this time around the linking looks more sensible than previous times at least there is no crazy linking like the stupid fsp triple link (I’m fsp player btw), yes the French will probably be top spot but that doesn’t matter, at least they won’t be as major issue as fsp and piken was last linking.

In all honesty was eu really needing this linking system? Unlike NA, EU glicko ratings prior to linking were quite close I think it was something like 100 points between top 12 server’s, and the others weren’t that much behind compared to NA anyway. Now the gaps in ratings since linking are huge.

World Linking 8/26/2016

Needless to say: I´m out of this.

Im FSP and I totally agree, its ridiculous linking us with 2 other servers. But I will say I dont think we have nowhere near the population we had the week this linking took place, not sure if its the times i play but im no longer seeing queues at all.

In fairness if the needed to tripple link a server to handle the french then Anet should of done some home work, and picked another server as their lab rat, because we all know FSP is useless at PPT, and that is the very reason why even with insane populations we can never hold #1 spot EU (Just visiting). Hell we even raced from rank 8-9 to Rank 2 prior to linking, that alone (climbing ranks) should of told Anet that we didnt need it.

That being said, the only thing we will ever beat the french at (with or without linking) is fighting, most servers will out PPT us without a doubt, yet few will stand on par for fighting, and since PPT is providing a bigger portion of the out come we wont beat the french in that respect.

Anet already said they needed us as a counter to the french, and i can see that what they were predicting for top 3 was a FSP – Piken – Jade Sea MU. But im pretty sure we can all already predict the out come of a Match up between FSP – Piken – Jade Sea.

FSP since linking have lost a lot of players due to the obscene queues we initially started with most of waggoned to Piken’s Linked server, FSP is probably (now) marginally on par with these double linked servers in the MU. However, since FSP and Piken are blood thirsty for the fights with each other, they will spend a lot of the time in open field battles. Regardless of their numbers Jade Sea will use this to their advantage and not be seen all week, just PPT all week out of sight out of mind. They know there s a good chance FSP isnt gonna leave a good brawl with Piken to save a keep/Garri/SM, and because of this, FSP’s structures will be their primary targets. Since all FSP players will be on tag, since thats what they do best, it will leave most BL’s undefended outside of prime time. Piken has a lot of Havoc groups that FSP doesnt have, who will be more than happy to back cap behind Jade Sea, giving them good valuable points too. Regardless how they look in their current MU against Piken, in this version JS will win, Piken 2nd and FSP 3rd. So I truly believe this will be the outcome of such a MU, and if so the counter against the french will fail, because you have 2 fight servers (who will be more interested in each other) against a French door beating PPT machine, who will quite happily avoid combat all week, which i can see their point, in open field vs either of the 2 other servers they wouldn’t stand a chance.

Now don’t get me wrong I don’t mind coming 3rd, I only got 1 thing on my mind (fighting). Yeh ok, it’s nice to win some MU’s but it’s not an issue if we lose, sometimes i go week’s without even checking scores and not know if we won or not. My point is, (not speaking for everyone), a lot of my server think like this, and if you wanted someone to compete/play PPT games with the French, FSP was probably the wrong choice, and playing EU regular, getting a feel with how different communities/servers play the game, or just doing some homework in general would of picked this up in a heart beat. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out FSP should never be in your list of choices as a server to play PPT for you. What you have essentially done is give Mike Tyson a 3rd arm and 3 knuckle dusters and said, “right then Mike ive given you the tools to do it, im gonna need you to play in this Chess tournament and win”.

World Linking 8/26/2016

Hello everyone,

I know a lot of EU players are asking why Far Shiverpeaks is linked with Whiteside Ridge and Fissure of Woe so I figured I would clear up why this link was made…………

@McKenna, thanks for the explanation, but seen as your looking for balance would it not be a lot better to unlink T1 servers EU ( and perhaps lock transfers for a while) and start triple linking T5 servers EU? not saying that you will put them on par with current T1 EU but certainly make them more vibrant and populated MU’s to play in.
Also in fairness I cant recall a “recent” time when any T1 EU server has had a problem with any french combination, they avoid fights, so you poke at their structures and pull em out to play, win fights, make em rage quit, paint map.

P.S im an FSP player, we aint happy either, we think of ourselves as a strong fighting server, who now lacks quality, not directly from linked servers but from those that are jumping on board to be #1, please focus all your future linking in lower tiers (who need populating) not T1, french aint a problem, providing you dont start quadruple linking them too.

We were already on course to 2nd in rankings (and probably Deso’s main rival), and now this? its easy enough saying them 2 servers are more or less empty but if we start winning they wont be empty for long and twice the capacity to fill of a normal linking.

Why they even bother linking top tiers in EU? why don’t they triple link lower tiers to make them more competitive like they do in NA? probably because they pay more attention to NA than EU?

I see no reason why we can’t stay linked, it’s not as if we (FSP+UW duo) are rolling through the tiers like a hot knife through butter. we seem quite stable as we are and not too over powered or weak, unlike other link ups.

  • Describe a typical hour for you in the Alpine Borderlands in the past. For example, What size of group were you running in? What kind of tasks did you run? What activities did you do?

For 3 hrs a night 5 nights a week it was guild raids of 20-25 guild mates running around looking for guilds to fight of similar size regular fighting spots and easy accessibility to re-enter fights. Outside of them times i usually spent around 8 hrs a day, every day solo roaming around or joining the blue tag on map.

  • Compare your experience described above with a typical hour spent in Eternal Battlegrounds, if you went there at all. Does your style of play change between the 2 maps?

I only went to EB for lazy time during the early hours in morning when i couldnt find no fights on alpine maps.

  • Compare your experiences described above with an hour spent in the new borderlands.

Still attend some guild raids, although they don’t last that long due to the enjoyment gone out of the maps. An only really attend what i attend to show support, i don’t enjoy it. I have giving the new maps the benefit of the doubt and have spent most of my WvW time on them, and will predominantly log into the new maps rather than EB but log off not long after as I feel the map doesn’t support my needs, and feel very disappointed that a game mode i love has been destroyed (not even gradually) but in 1 single patch/expac.

  • Describe the nature of combat in the borderlands in the past. How have the new borderlands impacted this paradigm for you? What style or build changes might it cause? For example, knocking people off cliffs or into lava might play a more important role.

The old maps had certain easily accessible spots where all the fighting would take place, even without looking for a tag u would easily be able to find fights solo/group or zerg at any of these spots for example between bay and garrison, between bay and briar or between garrison and hills just to name a few, most within easy walking distance of a waypoint no matter friend or foe, people didnt run and hide as much because they knew if they died they would be able to re-enter battle quite easy and quick. For the record knocking people off cliffs or in lava don’t interest me at all I would basically put that down to a cheap shot or no skill, we all seen that video of a necro fearing a zerg off cliff in EoTM’s, funny the once but takes the fighting out of it. The new map reminds me so much of EoTM’s: it’s big, you can be hit/fall off edges, takes so long to re-enter fights that people don’t bother and log out, new players without much play hours can easily get lost, lack of waypoints, playing with complete strangers instead of the guilds and pugs u love playing with (takes away your identity, although this hasn’t happened “yet” got a funny feeling it will) and if this is the way WvW overhaul is going then it’s end for me.

  • In your experience, compare the time it takes take a structure or objective here, then it did in the past.

In old maps, most of my solo time i used to spend setting up cata’s and taking down walls, in preparation for when our EB blob border hops, for me to communicate what i have taken down for them to cap map back faster. However, when doing it with this map i have the problem of the walls upgrading while im waiting for EB blob, and im unable to slow down the supply to stop it from upgrading (very annoying), it wouldn’t be as bad if i was stopped by player interaction, but im not. I am being stopped by a game mechanic in a PvP game mode. I will say i do like that the NPC lords are a bit more beefy, and each have unique fighting styles.

  • How is the loot and wxp for you compared to in the past? Will it be able to sustain whatever you are doing? Did it take a hit, or was it improved? If you are planning to unlock an elite specialization, do you think you were helped or hurt in these regards? Do you think you could pursue any other in-game goals just by playing WvW?

Sorry to say I havent noticed in regards to loot because every time i enter WvW recently im spending less and less time in WvW (or GW2 in general) shame really because i used to love this game and more to the point this game mode, I suppose im only here now because i have hop that Anet will swallow their pride and realise and rectify this mistake that hit WvW on the HoT expac.

  • How will the map change impact the long sessions (multiple hours) you spend in WvW?

It has already impacted my WvW hours, I went from 8-12 hrs a day (overall) to sometimes not bothering even loggin on, and when i do i now spend an hour in new maps (EBG queue friggin huge) maybe bit of time in LA trading passing time by and log off again. As I say I am only holding out on a thread with hop, but if mega server hit WvW, I will be saving myself a nice chunk of space on my hard drive after uninstalling.

  • In 100 words or less, describe how the new BLs could be improved.

tbh anything remotely similar to Alpine maps and as far away from EoTM and desert map as possible will be brilliant. remove gimics like air pads lava pools, mid event. allow waypoints to be manually built and used as previously, so we can cap build and hold enemy keeps/waypoints. less vertical, less chokes, allow us to build waypoints in own BL keeps.

  • In 100 words or less, describe how the borderlands work to a new WvW player.

I am a veteran player, and understand WvW mechanics, I pitty any new player that has to learn on a map like this and hasn’t seen or had experience on the previous version.

  • In 100 words or less, describe how the borderlands work to a veteran WvW player that is new to the maps.

I have covered every inch of this new map and know all the short cuts and siege spots and still find it very negative to a PvP environment. I could be standing vertually next to an enemy player and yet i am still unable to make contact (in certain areas), due to the amount of vertical parts that need to be climbed to get to where i want to be. And around the palace for example if the air pads are in favour of the enemy i have a hell of a long trek to get around which make me wanna log off even more, i dont want to be spending my valuable time trying to get from one place to the next, the only reason i (and probably others) play WvW is to find continuous fights/battles side by side with friends, and when u take this away by making us explore/trek more than whats needed and less fighting or not making areas more easily accessible u have lost have of the player base. Solve this, if in any way you can make fights more easily accessible for all parties/servers (thus making fights more frequent) you have one half of the battle regardless of map, at least in my case anyway. (I would probably say reverting back completely to old waypoint system and manual upgrading would aide this alot.

  • Which map am I most likely to find you currently, if you’re on Gw2?

LA trading post less and less time every day, eventually if something isn’t sorted i will find a new game and uninstall

Thank you it’s a start in the right direction.
However, The main problem with the desert is that it’s not easily accessible to get back to where you originally were if you d/c or die (especially with no revive while in combat).

  • Objectives upgrades will no longer be automatic based on time. They will upgrade based on dolyaks that reach them. Smaller groups can now prevent an objective from upgrading by preventing dolyaks from reaching that objective.

It still has no meaning to have upgraded structures, or put in time and effort to upgrade. Give us back the ability to upgrade and hold waypoints in any map, it would give meaning to upgrade in enemy BL’s playing for area accessibility. If me and a few guys upgrade a keep in an enemy BL to get a WP we have achieved accessibility to that side of the map and have made it more a priority to defend it, which in turn will populate the map more.

  • Points per kill will be turned on and kept on. This is to more directly recognize the contribution that fighting other players adds to the success of the world.

Passive points should be turned off but connect holding and capping to the PPK, if you hold 1 keep you earn 1 PPK if you hold 6 keeps you earn 6 PPK etc etc, you hold 0 keeps then you get 0 PPK and 0 points full stop. This will still encourage people to capture and hold structures whilst still encouraging them to also come out and fight for the points they are passively holding. This way you also cater for a wider span of players, the players that enjoy capping, the players that enjoy defending, the players that enjoy upgrading and the players that enjoy fighting (large or small).

Im still not quite getting it? So if my community is made up of guild A, B, C, X, Y and Z, and i am in guild A. With 3 guild to an alliance my guild leader teams up with guilds B and C, and a lot of my friends are in guilds X, Y, Z and my guild leader would never team up with them because they don’t get on, does that mean outside of my guild i will never be able to play with my other friends any more?

Just wanted to quote something someone said, who sums it up in 1 sentence,

Their approach I feel was like going to PvE’ers and asking, "What can we do to get you more involved in WvW than approaching WvW’ers and asking, “What can we do to enhance the system?”

Outside of guild raids I enjoy roaming and mostly easily find fights around camps(people upgrading) and strategic supply lines (escorting dollies). This new map takes this away from me, as well as many of the other things people have mentioned. I thought, ok I’l try out this event in middle of map, there are bound to be people to fight against, and in all fairness there was, had a couple of fights, win some lose some, but when i respawn and try getting back I either need to timely solo hack down a barricade or walk the long way, after dying 2-3 times i logged out Ifind a similar problem with the EoTM map design, not so much about size but accessibility, fights/tag/previous location are not easily re-accessible after death/disconnect/or other, for what ever reason.

lol I can just see it now, big announcement saying “We know how much the WvW community loves PvE, so we have decided to release a hint that the next Elder Dragon is located in caverns beneath stonemist castle in the eternal battlegrounds, and we will have a huge story line with many meta events situated in WvW.”

in all seriousness, map designs are moving very similar to EoTM style maps, and I don’t think they understand that players that play WvW “full time” are in most cases not the same people that play EoTM’s, to make everyone happy they need to seperate as many similarities between WvW and EoTM’s as possible, when it comes to map design, we see them as 2 different game modes. EoTM is one big K-train (i know it was intended as a solution for queues), while WvW is primarily (excluding a few servers), used as battlefields. EoTM is for rewards/karma/WXP and WvW is for winning can be winning fights or MU’s. It’s starting to feel as though any things being added to WvW now (just like the new maps), should belong to EoTM not WvW.

New maps look beautiful, and they should be very proud of them, but they don’t belong in WvW. Personally I would place them (with a little tweak) into an EoTM rotation and give WvW alpine maps back 25% larger than before with the sentry effect, old waypoint and upgrade system.

Analysis on Desert Borderlands' unpopularity

Don’t get me wrong, I can see that a lot of time and effort has gone into these maps, and they are like next generation maps very beautiful to “look” at. But unfortunately it goes against everything that people wanted .

We complained about PvE content in WvW – you give us more.

We ask for scouts/defenders/upgraders to have a better reward mechanic – you scrap them roles and made them virtually non existent.

We asked do not end up making WvW like EoTM – They couldn’t be any more similar.

We asked for another map in addition to the ones we had – I feel like I have taken my car in for a spray job and they decided to scrap it and turn it into a 40ft kittening yacht, yeh looks great but I can’t swim and don’t live near the ocean.

People love to fight players, that is why the majority of them play WvW, these maps have taken that away, sounds weird but true. Fights are not easily accessible, people don’t want to run across a map for ages to get to where the fight is and if they die, will they bother going back? probably not, takes too long.

Alpine maps were near perfect, everywhere was very easily accessible, even if u had to run from citadel with no waypoints on map. Auto upgrading? why? We have no purpose to defend now, the tactics of building and holding a waypoint in enemy hills/bay/Garri are long forgotten which was also an achievement.

What’s with all these silly mechanics like air pads etc? I ain’t interested in doing these silly jumping puzzles to get to my guild etc. I go to WvW to fight, all these canyons and cliffs and different level’s, the saying is very true “less is more”.

I spent 3hours in my home BL last night and although everything was flipping constantly, I seen 2 enemies whole night. This is not what i want out of WvW, I want to have 3 way fights exiting on the edge fights, easy to access again if die or d/c. I want something that we can fight for like enemy blob about to reset our way point we spent so long trying to upgrade.

Anet please bring back the Alpine maps so we can bring our players back too. Who ever designed the Alpine maps thumbs up, this desert map seems like it was left in the hands of a PvE player who casually steps foot in WvW.

I think your problem is your EoTM’s groups. I know we have been told EoTM’s don’t count, but i think the EoTM’s guys log in WvW for reset see if it’s easy mode week, (triggering your WvW population activity at a crazy lvl), get wiped a few times and think kitten it back to EoTM’s farm upscales and leave u guys the rest of the MU with bad numbers.

My server, which is #14 in EU has ratings similar to #8-9 in NA, they have a huge gap between #7 and #8 which I think totally messes up matchmaking for them.

Also, both T4 and T5 matchups are pretty balanced point-wise and we get matchup variety in silver too.

yeh no doubt, i was using EU gold as an example, most of us (as servers) have been careful, not to cause unbalance, and turned away many guilds we would normally beg for.

The 560 rating difference between servers 1-9 NA is roughly the same difference between 1-19 EU. 1 single NA guild coming to EU silver league can easily put that server mid gold in a couple of weeks, maybe more.

Point i’m making is as a community there is a lot we can do ourselves in regards to population, but help from Anet would be an added bonus, since we cant physically see figures of WvW activities and moving guilds server to server is costly.

I do personally think that free transfers to the right servers, not aiming at the server population but more the WvW activity (if it can be measured), would do great.

For example EU gold league have done quiet well in moving guilds around trying to balance the ratings and more matchup variety etc. Even recently a large NA looking for an EU server to join, and any EU server would normally Jump hoops to get an NA guild, but most of us are/have been trying to drive them to opposing servers that need to also fall into our parameter, and not upset the balance we have partially restored.

Yes this is currently on EU gold League, not brilliant, but getting there, but would be great if all server could do the same, we partly created this mess along with Anets free transfers at start of the game (not taking WvW activity into consideration). We have to stop this obsession with over stacking servers, we have seen the results of it.

Now if we are playing our part, I think it only fair that Anet play their part too in the population fix by giving us free transfers. Not like they have done in the past, and said “here you go free transfers for x amount of days, go where you like”.

More like monitor WvW activity (even it its from queue activity), base the server to get free transfers on that information, give 1 week of Free transfers to them servers only. Monitor ratings and WvW activity and queu activity for 2 weeks, then repeat free transfers for another week for other servers based on this info. Yes it will be a long solution, but no matter how quick things take to mess up, to get them right will always take longer to solve.

Rough Rating difference in EU 1-9 to NA 1-9 servers atm:

EU 1-9 roughly 175 difference in rating. (would be even better, if more would leave SFR to lower servers) But we have a decent amount of diversity in MU atm.
NA 1-9 roughly 560 difference in rating.

PvE have their SW chest farms, Dungeon farming, achievement hunters etc etc, PvP have their sky hammer farms and decap/recaps, and WvW have recently come up with a few events a day farming in OS. If any were to get a Nuke dropped on it out of convenience, weather it have any infringement on rules or not, we all know which one will get it first. And the guys are right in saying there is no matchup manipulation taking place, to do this in the Borderlands/EBG/EoTM’s would be a different story altogether.

I see this no different than someone standing in a particular area farming raptors/ettins to get raptor/ettin slayer achievement. They get loot from these too and eventually get diminished returns. Get and achievement at end of it. Whats the difference? it’s not for long periods.

The Most Fun I've had in WvW!

I started out on Far Shiverpeak myself. It was a brilliant place to play, alas, internal strife tore the WvW population apart and caused massive internal debates. I left the server before the meltdown that caused several guilds to either leave or disband. The aggresive side of this feud was also in charge of the community forums and openly abused their powers there to further drive a vedge between the players, even the neutral ones.

Yes this is true but old news, so old it was almost forgotten about until i read your post.

FSP currently has drive, good internal communication and organisation, and a if they want it they take it attitude, you can siege cap your Garri all you want, if they want it they take it. FSP imo although not as strong as some other servers in the PPT, is getting stronger week by week. They certainly in my eyes offer the best fights EU and as far as a PUG blob vs PUG blob goes, I would probably go as far to say i’d favour the odds of them coming out victorious. Yeh they have a couple of weak spots as far as coverage goes, but you can’t deny they will always favour a good fight.

So yeh I totally agree with the OP if he was talking about the new FSP (after the drama), and no they never won a matchup in T1 (yet, but watch this space) but i assume he meant battles.

From what I gather as for this moment in time they don’t want to be stuck in the tier 1 cycle and want to float around 3-4 rank for fight and server match up diversity, but i’m sure somewhere down the line they will push for 1st and if they keep getting stronger like they have been I see no reason why they wont get it.

When you say your going to test adding PPK, does that mean along side PPT? Or replacing PPT for a limited time?

Because if the reason for this test is because of how PPT currently is, wouldn’t it be best to test this new scenario without PPT and just PPK or something similar to give true results?

It needs to be PPK ONLY, no PPT at all.

Thank god only very few have this mindset. WvW is about collective strategy, fights, assault and defense with siege and what not. If you play WvW purely for kills i suggest you PvP, GvG in OS and such. Or might as well just go play CoD4.

Read my other post and you will see that there will still be collective strategy, fights and defence with siege and what not. And not purely for PvP, GvG kils in the OS. Capping/Defending and upgrading will play the major part in it.

Ok, guys. Some of you are unhappy about this change, I can see that. BUT… quite honestly, most of you are sort of (I hate to use the word) ranting (sorry!) instead of offering suggestions.

My suggestion is since people use the Trade Post daily, and have had to adapt to the new buy/sell slider (u know the 1/250 quantity slider).

Why not since they use that daily, have the same mechanics for the gem exchange a slider from 1-250? That way your pleasing everyone, people like me who buys 15-20 gems day to day over time to save for the items they want without putting huge holes in ur bank balance. Whilst also pleasing people who buy larger amounts who can buy in repeatable block over 250 gems at the move of a slider.

At least this way people can purchase the “exact” amount they require and not having to purchase over the required amount and spending Gold they didn’t need too.

Also Ideal for new players too, who are not going to have 70-80g for their first Gem purchase, hell i know players who been playing for ages who have never even had 70-80g all in one go.

Hope something does get sorted with this because i really want an item off gem store and it only costs 200gems and getting the 400 would be a waste.

Ive just noticed this too i only want 200 gems but need to buy a min of 400?

Besides im the type of person that doesn’t like like to spend large sums of gold all in one go. What i used to do was over time spend a few gold every few days, say 7g 1 day, perhaps 2 days later 10g and 2 days later 4g etc etc, and build up a chunk of gems over time in-case there was anything i needed and now still sticking by my merits of not spending large sums all in one go, i will now be forced to buy less from the Gem store.

Just out of curiosity, what was wrong with it before hand that needed a change this big? I agree it could have done with a little more user friendly tweaks but nothing this drastic.

However, please be ware that PPK will only work if PPT is removed completely, otherwise your regular night capping server will PvD every map late at night until they have a considerable lead and avoid going out into open field and start hiding behind walls for rest of the week, not giving you the opportunity to take points off them through PPK only through their fully sieged structures, in which they will probably get more points from you than them, giving night capping servers an even bigger advantage.

It needs to be PPK ONLY, no PPT at all.

Siege Troll Discussion

I think we have 2 major issues on why it happens:

1. They are under the assumption that they are doing nothing wrong.

2. Hard to prove that it is them doing it, so as long as they think they are invisible they will continue.

Of course this does not count for every siege troll, but a large portion of them. So any methods is just as good as getting rid of them.

1. Evidence – Make siege placement a map wide addition to the chat system, similar to combat log but in main channel. “Twinny Todd Deployed Balista.”

a. If a tagged Commander placed siege it would say something like: “Commander Twinny Todd Deployed Balista.”

2. Action – Make it reportable with screen shot of given evidence from the chat window, and announce it’s a ban-able/suspend-able offence.

How will it help?It will partially help as a deterant, in the troll knowing that he is now visible to all on that particular map of his actions. This alone will reduce trolling considerably, and in addition making it reportable will reduce trolling even more.

To avoid people getting reported when they shouldn’t be, for example small Havoc groups/defenders etc (who do usually communicate in map chat what their upto), the report will need to be made but multiple people to be flagged.

Each Siege unit can be dismantled/recycled supplies back into the structure, or to the recyclers if at enemy structure or in open field, but to avoid trolling of dismantling well placed siege, each siege requires 3 separate individuals to interact with it to recycle it.

In addition to this each siege could have the persons name prefixed infront of it, for example looking at the siege built or unbuilt on the ground would be named “Twinny Todd’s Superior Balista.” So you could even see for example, if I was the troll and their are 5 x balista’s and and 2 x rams at a random indestructible wall, all with my name infront of them, weather im still on the map or not u have screen shot evidence that I have been trolling.

I mean things like this are much more simple to implement and may not get rid of every troll, (imo nothing will get rid of all of them), but will certainly make them near non existent in time.

btw this recycling siege business could even add some fun tactics to the game recycling rams on a outer gate to use on an inner gate.

Pretty much similar to what Arghore.8340 came up with above^^.

Points for Stomps: value of the Stomps is determined on on the structures you own and have upgraded.

No Points for initial cap:

No Points for stomps on 1st Tier: Value for Stomps only increase after your 1st Tier, giving major incentive to upgrade and defend everything you cap, no matter what time of day it is, or how small the structure is, and attack and take back everything that your enemy has.

I could go ahead and make up some figures like for instance:
T2 Tower = 1 Per Stomp (PS)
T3 Tower = 2 PS

Camps Half the Value per Tier
Keeps Double the Value Per Tier
Stonemist Tripple the Value Tier

Calculate the above ^^ by the amount of structures you hold at the required Tier levels and divide them by x amount for a more manageable Points Per Stomp

Bloodlust stays the same in regards to the buffs but does not qualify any value against stomps.

Im sure you can work out better figures than me but using that as an example.

What will this achieve?

Since WvW is a game mode within a game it will never be completely balanced. However, there will be no tick to be gained unfairly against a server through night capping. They will still be able to PvD (if that’s what their enjoyment is), but it will have no direct impact on the score.
Yes they can turn upgraded structures to paper reducing our ability to score, and yes they can upgrade their structure increasing their ability to score, but they cannot score if they don’t have anyone to stomp.

This in time should make people think twice about transferring to a server/time zone/region which doesn’t cater for their time zone. This in time should balance out the ratings more evenly, not so much by numbers but mainly by coverage, solving 2 of our primary issues atm, which scoring system and coverage. Currently as it stands majority of the people who end up PvDing a server in the same Tier as them have come from a specific region/server to do exactly that, which is a major reason of the imbalances in coverage.

I should imagine in time they will realise, that their PvDing is having little direct impact on the score at hand, and most would transfer themselves, possibly to the other servers within their tier to balance the tier out themselves, so they would be a benefit, and have something to compete against.

In addition to this you could introduce handicap measures, as others have mentioned. Allowing smaller numbers a better chance to compete with greater numbers, perhaps not offensively but more to the point of if the if you are against an enemy player that is outmanned and not on your own BL any supplies used by workers for upgrades are reduced by a %, *(in other words workers carry 5 supplies instead of 10 while upgrading or dolyaks carry half the amount etc), making it that much harder for you to outman a server in their own BL and upgrade everything in 1 night.

Seems, most people here are more concerned about the achievement/reward part, like:

“No I didn’t enjoy the season, because I only took a few mins to get the events done and then i stepped out of WvW for the rest of the week”

I mean what type of crap is that, if thats all ur playing for is a little achievement, then u shouldn’t need to comment on the season as a whole, and ur not gonna enjoy any aspect of any Season, because WvW is about having a good time stomping and getting stomped and not some achievement or reward.

When you you start worrying about PPT or enemy server is stacked or the score etc, all the fun goes out the window. I’m in WvW every day hours on end and the only time I see the score is accident when i press B to log into WvW and even then the only numbers that concern me at times is the queues not the scores.

For me the Season was AWESOME, just like every other season, aint got a clue if we won or came last and couldn’t care, but the Tournaments certainly bring the good fights out of the wood work. Each Season i have participated in has brought the quality out in the fights, and the best raids I could ask for. So yes I did enjoy this Season, very much.

To devs:
The solution is really simple, how to do that?
Just change “tick score” system to “gain points” system – that’s all!
For claiming every object server gets points once.
Camp- 5
Tower -1 0
Keep – 25
SM – 35
As usual, but only once, so server which does pvd (player vs door) will get only max 695 points for all night for example, not like now that one or two nights with pvd and match is over.
Feel free to modify this system in anyway.
Benefits?:
- no more blob style, which will be extremely not effective with gain point system,
- no more zombies blob all day long,
- overpopulated servers will split naturally, because insane coverage factor will be crushed and not one way to win.

BTW:
For WvW community health I suggest to separate pvp servers, u can change names of that servers, because in one mega server time, PvE players just killing WvW in lower tiers, they rise transfer costs, and don’t participle in WvW. Make transfer to lower tiers cheaper and you will gain balance pretty soon.

Got a funny feeling that people wouldnt cap their stuff back until last day to avoid it being flipped again for more points.

I would probably say in regards to scoring:

Only get points per stomp – but your stomps are worth more the depending on what structures (keeps/towers) you hold.

at least this way night capping wouldn’t score any points unless they had enemies to stomp. Yes they could still turn things to paper and make stomps worth more, but without the actual stomps it wouldn’t affect the score.

Which ever way it goes some people will get upset with change.

Im sure Anet have the tools/graphs to see the population use and coverage of WvW.
So what about implementing some sort of rotating transfer allowance? Something like a constant free transfer window to the lowest 3 servers in regards to population and coverage and a constant block on the 3 highest servers in regards to population and coverage. This will change dynamically depending on the change of coverage and population.

For example, i am from EU on Deso and since i don’t have magic figures and graphs i’ll use ranks as an example:

Highest population and coverage
SFR and Deso and Kodash will have a block on transfers.
A few things can happen to change these transferable again:

1. People wanting to transfer to either of these servers for the T1 experience will be forced to transfer (if they still wish to do so) to the next highly populated server, but unfortunately for them it will be T2 bringing that band of servers more in line with ratings to the T1 servers and eventually becoming T1 themselves and them being blocked.

2. People will for what ever reason eventually leave the T1 servers (please note im using T1 as an example of highest populated) and find a new home bringing that server eventually off the block list.

3. People sick of the queues and transfer out, perhaps take advantage of the free transfers at the bottom of the ladder.

Lowest population and coverage
Underworld and Vabbi and Whiteside Ridge will have constant free transfer.
A few things can happen to make these server no longer a free transfer:

1. Guilds/people may fancy a change and take advantage of a free transfer.

2. Guilds/people may think they could take on a project of raising one or more of these servers out of T8 (NA) T9 (EU) and climb the ladder.

3. People may want to transfer to another region and want to test the latency/lag for themselves at a free cost.

Guilds/people are always transferring from T1 servers for many different reasons and they have no worry about doing so because they can always transfer back at some point, but taking away the ability to transfer back until that server is in a more balanced category is what each region needs.

Yes it will take time, and yes u will always get people/guilds that don’t mind paying to transfer, but im sure there are more that would prefer to transfer for free or at a lower cost and not having the ability to transfer back or too a clearly over stacked servers is always a good thing.

I’m not saying that it would balance it in a way where T8/9 will be able to compete with T1/2 because that should not be the case, we have tiers for a reason, but it should at least get the more of a balance between corresponding servers so T1 isn’t steam rolling T2 like they are nothing and T8 isn’t steam rolling T9 like they are nothing and same goes for all the other tiers in between.

I agree Tequatl isn’t hard when in an organised group, but shatterer should still be less trouble that doesn’t need a full’ish and highly organised map to complete it.

I think it should be similarly rewarded in percentages/stages, like tequatl. For example.

Dragons should take more than players hacking at its legs to defeat it. So would require some siege in order to lower it’s HP.

I think some simple little mechanics to avoid ppl from afking and making them think and move more whilst not making it as difficult for some as other organised boss fights.

The aim is to build a Giant Crystal which which is made up of 4 smaller crystals, to build each of these smaller crystals players must collect crystals that drop from the dragon through different intervals through the fight (like eggs on the Queen Karka event), and take them back to where the siege is now, to complete this crystal to powers an Asuran Mega Lazer.

When The Shatterer spreads his wings and fly’s up those not having stability would get knock over and stuck to the floor for 5 seconds due to the back draft. And those who are not moving and stood still gets 1 shotted by lighting bolts from under his wings.

  • Shatterer HP 75% Dragon Fly’s up in the air doing is AoE attacks and Drops Crystals Players collect as many crystals needed to make up 1 small crystal shard.*
  • Shatterer HP 50% Dragon Fly’s up in the air doing is AoE attacks and Drops Crystals Players collect as many crystals needed to make up 2nd small crystal shard.*
  • Shatterer HP 25% Dragon Fly’s up in the air doing is AoE attacks and Drops Crystals Players collect as many crystals needed to make up 3rd small crystal shard.*
  • Shatterer HP 10% Dragon Fly’s up in the air doing is AoE attacks and Drops Crystals Players collect as many crystals needed to make up 4th small crystal shard.*

All 4 pieces needed to complete the crystal, Crystal complete.

Dragon now realizes that the players are getting the better of him and Fly’s up one last time and gets rdy for a super AoE Breath of Crystal Dust attack and it catches the crystal which auto powers and shoots the mega lazer instantly defeating the Shatterer with his own breath.

Between these stages players are bombarded with adds/chaos storms/crystal showers and frequent random AoE attacks from his feet and Tail.

^^Not too tough and don’t really need much organising, but stops people afk attacking and makes u move about in fight while still giving the chance to get loot per event stage

Can you please work out a better way to do rather than just a complete wipe. I would rather have the ability to add and subtract points from lines rather than have to do over the whole thing.

Example of Tag acquisition (not just a gold payment)

Each tag comes with a commanders log, where they have to capture x amount of structures and having to complete these events with atleast 70% of their squad on map.
Once commanders log is complete (hence gaining leadership experience, from small scale to large scale) upon handing in their completed log they are then eligible to purchase next rank.

Example:

Gold – Captain
35g – 10 players max – strike team
Must achieve the following to be eligible to purchase next rank
35hrs minimum, commanding at least 70% of their squad completing the following objectives:
capture 70 supply camps and 70 ruins Or 70 supply camps and 70 mercenary camps.

Red – Commander
75g – 30 players max – Guild Support group
Must achieve the following to be eligible to purchase next rank
75hrs minimum, commanding at least 70% of their squad completing the following objectives:
Capture 100 Towers and 100 Keeps and 100 supply camps

Blue – General
150g – 91 players max (includes his 2nd in Command) – battle field General
Must achieve the following to be eligible to purchase next rank
150hrs minimum, commanding at least 70% of their squad completing the following objectives:
Capture 250 towers and 250 keeps and 500 supply camps and 100 Stonemist castles and 250 Mercenary camps or 250 Ruins

Platinum – Legendary General of the [enter servers name]
300g
This rank has no extra abilities than a General (Blue tag), and is only for show as in recognition to the amount effort u have made in commanding your server, and the time taken in completing a generals log.

although I have just made up figures I hope you can see what my ideas are.
this idea not only makes use of small groups people trying to complete logs to promote themselves but also have large groups on map too for the other commanders to try and promote themselves too.

Where as ruins and mercenary camps are sometimes left alone and are not a massive necessity these ideas will bring them into the game more than they are.
People will now have incentive to fill up their squads as much as they can (or at least to 70%) even if your a General you still have incentive to push harder even if it means it wont affect your abilities at all its still an achievement.

PvE Commanders
could be done in a similar manner in regards to world bosses/events or tequatl with turret commanders etc (sry don’t know much about PvE lol) but just a suggestion.

A new UI window would probably be needed though, Something similar to the guild roster (could also be located there) with multiple party windows, with a drag and drop scenario, to organize parties and class composition. This would also fall in nicely with the Gold/Red/Blue Tag scenario.

Rank Structure of a Blue icon General, I have provided an img of how I would have liked it to work Image is in post above which u probably already seen, notice I have placed prices in regards to acquirement, Gold Icons are pretty cheap since they you need more of them and less people under your control. This would also encourage strike teams and roaming.

Obviously figures, colours and suggestions were not precisely accurate, but more towards putting the idea out there.

Although I appreciate the job that Anet has done to get these coloured Tags in game which will be of “some” use by all means, and new colours is a good start. But i was hoping for something a little more of use to actually commanding and structuring your zerg. Something that would truly be a big change (a very helpful one) for us WvW (and PvE partly) dwellers.

Taken from a previous post i done with a diagram of what i was really hoping for, or something at least similar.

1. Tags with squad limits and various prices respectively, and each colour having a unique use instead of a fashion parade.

Gold Tag: Small strike team Captain upto 10 people (2 parties)
Red Tag: Squad commander, upto 30 people consists of upto 3 strike teams (6 parties)
Blue Tag: Main map General/Commander Consists of upto 3 Squads (18 parties)+1 2nd in command.
Green Tag: Guild groups, can consist of the same amount as a Blue Main map commander, but only applicable/visible to member of the Guild you are currently representing.
Colored tags are purchasable NOT earned through rank, earning individual colours through rank, will put off people wanting to take up being/learning to be a commander and turn things into a popularity contest.

2. Commander alert system.

3. Improved Supply info/range.

4. Account Bound.

5. Secrecy Chat Channel: for commanders only, which will be able to contact commanders on different maps in order to call for short term back up.

6. Chat Suppression: Not removed completely or it WILL get abused/trolled, but improved alot. although doing the above i mentioned with the tags and squads should eliminate excessive use of other channels apart from squad etc.

7. Ability to make tag invisible to select groups.
