I recommend learning how to get to the boss like the other 50+ people that are killing it. Then you won’t have any problems.
It’s not possible for me to get 10k drinks. anet pls remove
Just practice for more than 5 minutes instead of giving up? That’s how you get good at video games. Fallen masks silver is not even hard, I got it on my 2nd try at the minigame, with plenty of mistakes.
Why does HoT Ascended gear require Fulgurite?

Let’s post about it some more and they might fix it
Interesting, I can’t remember a single instance of someone being mean in this game.
I think some people choose to get their feelings hurt too often.
I tried ESO during open beta and the game was just way too easy. Like there’s easy and then there’s faceroll easy. Had to do content a few levels higher than mine and it was still too easy. That gave me a very bad impression.

People sell guild ownership so I guess we should remove guilds from the game to protect those who might get scammed.
They said they would have balance updates every 3? months (The other number I’m thinking of is 6, it’s 3 or 6 but I’m leaning towards 3). HoT counts as a balance update so expect an update in January.
Yeah honestly the function gyro is an ok thing… but not as an elite spec mechanic. It’s not enough to be an elite spec mechanic.
But then again before the expansion I was worried that they would replace the toolbelt with something so maybe we should just be quiet and count ourselves lucky, lest we make things worse.
I don’t think anyone knows yet but there’s 100% going to be a way to get more sets.
It’s probably split. The collection reward says “Open to choose a set of experimental envoy armor”. Or something like that. Set.
I’m not sure I have anything to add at the moment, but I am interested in the thoughts of other folks working towards 250 crystalline ingots for their legendary. (Assuming they didn’t buy any fulgurite when it was still able to be traded.)
It’s very easy compared to many other components that go into a legendary. I collected 250 crystalline ores before the drop rate was like…. quintupled or something. It’s a complete joke now. I got 250 airship oils and auric dust without even trying.
The only hard one is ley line sparks. It took maybe 18 hours spent in TD. The main source of crystals is the meta event. You have to stay at 100+% participation for many cycles of the meta. It’s 15 crystals times three + 75 at the end + 40 from a failed chak gerent event. You can also do hero points daily for 10 crystals and open some chests. Anyway it takes a couple of days in TD afking half the time.
It’s really, really not hard to get 250 of each thing. Complaining about RNG is silly because due to the number of caches/cargo/pods you open, it very quickly averages out to something extremely close to the actual drop chance.
For Sabetha, aside from increased damage from most or all attacks, I think the timed bombs one-shot the carrier, and presumably everyone else who gets hit.
I think timers work well the way they are right now.
If bosses gained stronger attacks over time without a visible timer on the screen, that wouldn’t change the fact that the timer is still there, just invisible. So why not just show the timer.

Players are able to improve. Over time, on average, players will become better.
The GW2 elite content so far, which I will only include raids (the high level fractals are perfectly doable with any setup as long as you have AR), is elite in another sense: you either maximize DPS, or you will likely fail at all cases. There is no “learning the game mechanic” as people try to claim (learning to dodge red circles and to save a single utility slot for boon removal? I learned that in Wayfarer Foothills, no one should feel special about this), and the DPS race requirement can only be fulfilled by a single set of classes/builds.
1. If you maximize DPS you will kill the bosses with 2-3 minutes left. So there is certainly some leniency but you can’t bring tanky gear.
2. The mechanics are pretty good in my opinion. Given that the vast majority of wipes are not because the boss enraged but because of failed mechanics, I certainly think they’re fine. Even if you think VG and Gorseval have somewhat boring mechanics, which I disagree with, you have to admit that Sabetha has geat mechanics.
3. “DPS race can only be fulfilled by a single set of classes/builds” – Completely false. Unless I misunderstand what you mean. But probably still false. Group compositions have a good amount of variety in my opinion.

TTS did training raids yesterday, maybe check that out.
Or if you watch the videos and read about the mechanics carefully, and you’re sure that you understand every mechanic and part of the fight, you can lie and say you’re experienced. Because if you’ve seriously done these things you’re already likely to be better than some other players on your team
I don’t recommend celestial stats though.
Magnetite shards from the raid is an easy way to get ascended pieces.
I think in a month or two many groups wouldn’t mind taking someone new to raids, if that person says they’re new and researched the fight in advance. It’s not that hard to beat the bosses with 1 person performing at say 50% efficiency. As long as they’re not on green circles duty or similar. I guess with Sabetha there might be a problem.
How good you are depends on how good your group is. If your group is bad then you can’t play as well as if it was good. I’m not saying you should get carried by good groups. What I mean is when all party members contribute buffs, heals, etc it lets you survive and do more dps. And of course you’re expected to contribute the things that your class is good at.
If you’re doing a fractal and your group sucks then you will be dying a lot or have to kite things forever. On the other hand if your group is good you will stack, share buffs and heals, and kill the mobs easily. So don’t assume that you’re necessarily bad. It could be bad groups that don’t cooperate enough.
Next thing I want to say is that after I learned raid boss fights, I noticed that I became a lot better at other PvE. You have to go out of your comfort zone to improve and starting to raid is possibly the best way to do that.
(edited by Wahaha.7938)
When you have time to play you can join a group that is on Gorseval if you want.
You ever thought those connection errors might be on your side?
Or teleport to Sparkfly Fen 10 mins (or even 5 mins, or even 2) before Tequatl comes and you’re basically guaranteed to be on a good map.
I’m pretty sure TT is done at least once daily. Yesterday when I did TT there were 2 maps doing it at the same time. That’s only at that time of the day, there were probably other attempts at other times.
If TD becomes like TT it would be very easy to get a kill for anyone who bothers to learn when a map is being organized.
However, maybe attaching King of the Jungle to the meta of TD was not a good idea. Maybe it should have been a separate event chain. Chak Crown could have been the meta boss fight, with changes to make it more like a boss.
GW2 raids feel… like a joke. No story, no trash, no fun.
Have you actually done the raid? It has fun events with tons of trash between the 1st and 2nd boss. Between 2nd and 3rd there’s also trash but there it’s not fun.
I feel like all professions are in demand except thief and to a lesser extent necro. That’s pretty good. And thief is kind of fine, mostly misunderstood.

Warrior, revenant for all bosses, usually at least 2 of each in a group, and more isn’t bad. All groups need 1 chronomancer and most of the time 1 druid. For VG engi. For Gorseval tempest.
I already salvage all blues and greens and sell materials but it’s boring! TP is so slow to load, I’m tired of listing materials on it… plus, my inventory is now full of yellows and exotics.. what to do with them? why do we need to do all this for a game?’
Yellows are basically all safe to salvage. Buy two master’s salvage kits (the yellow one) and use them to salvage all rares you get. You will often get sigils and runes from rares. You can sell those on the tp or combine 4 sigils/runes in the mystic forge for a chance at something good.
Exotics are rare enough that you can check their tp price individually. I salvage maybe 80% of them with a master’s salvage kit. Some of them will have a good sigil/rune inside (their tp price will reflect that), I use a black lion salvage kit on those (get the kits for free from daily rewards).
I agree that HoT maps drop way too many of those stupid bags. It’s not efficient to open them as soon as you get them, I just let them stack up for a long time.
the problems ive experienced with it:
- hot mics. this can be a major drawback with certain people or a non issue with others. only fixable with client, but Client+Link is not an improvement over existing client systems.
- people join and cant hear others talking. i’ve been on both ends of this and its frequent, especially in raids (more players = more chances for one of them to have a problem). it happens a lot.
- people join and things work normal for 5 minutes and then they cant hear others talking. sometimes fixable with a page refresh. voice coms are often for low-margin-of-error gameplay that cant afford people windowing their game to refresh a browser. this also seems to happen very often.
- its not browser agnostic. this is more of a pet peeve to me as a computer scientist.
- people crash out of the chat and dont automatically come back in the way they would with a client service. if someone crashes out they often need to be reissued a new link. again, when needing coms for serious play, we cant afford to be doing this.
I had a party member who couldn’t hear us but I assumed it was a problem on their end. I’ll keep these issues in mind next time, thanks. Now I realize my comment about not encountering bugs was not accurate because I haven’t really tried the web version. It does sound pretty bad.
It’s auto-looted. I think it’s something like 150k or 300k exp? Really not sure about the exp. In any case the exp is “substantial” but not that great, if you want exp I recommend you do lots of meta events in DS or other HoT maps, with +xp% food and util.
The only one I’ve found to be absolutely awful has been “Discord”, which is entirely web based. It spends most of its time living up to its name because it is so badly bug ridden at the moment and doesnt support push-to-talk so you hear every neckbeard mouthbreathing, chewing and talking to their cat, but it holds a lot of promise for a future where maybe we can have clientless chat (there is a client version for discord, but if youre going to use a client anyway theres no reason to both choosing discord in the first place).
I think Discord is pretty great. The main advantage is that it’s super easy to get people to join: paste a link that people go to and they’re sent right into your channel.
The client version does have push to talk, so yes everyone should be using the client ideally. But still, the advantage of getting people to join easily remains. So it’s not directly inferior to TS.
I like the big chat window, and the interface in general doesn’t kill my eyes like TS or Mumble does. I also haven’t encountered any bugs at all (honestly curious about what problems you’ve had). I’m fine with TS but I do hope that Discord becomes more popular because I like it personally.
Why would any business allow its employees to randomly post important new business information and answers whenever and on whatever site they choose for that day
What sort of business allows its employees to randomly chose to post when and where they are instead of doing it in an organized, professional manner on their official site.
I don’t really see anything wrong with it because they’re not posting some kind of official announcement. It’s just some info that the employee wanted to share about their work.
Do you think Anet should tell their employees that they’re not allowed to post anything unless they get an official authorization to do so? Probably not.
Do you think Anet should tell their employees that they are only allowed to post in the official forum? Maybe that can work but that seems kind of sad you know.
By the way Blizzard does the same, at least for the games that I play, their devs post more on reddit than on official forums. There are also other game companies whose devs post more on reddit. I don’t see anyone complaining about it.
Given that this very thread contains a post saying that a dev will post a thread in the official forum, I think people should relax.
How many times does it need to be said that devs posting here or on reddit is entirely V O L U N T A R Y. They are not obliged to post anywhere because it’s not part of their job requirements.
And like some said, why would they want to post here lol, so many nasty people in this thread.
I also would like more dev communication but I’m not going to complain when… you know.. devs communicate.

Good players are more likely to have ascended armor. The correlation goes the other way around. I have found this correlation to be very noticeable.
Also someone with ascended armor is more likely to have good sigils, food.
Buying gems on the gemstore does not make someone a good player. And frankly there’s not really any other way to earn the gold needed to get Ascended Armor
I said “good players are more likely to have ascended armor”.
I did not say “getting ascended armor will make someone a good player”.
Heard a few times that hitting the sapper aggros them to you. Never tried it myself.
I don’t like the idea of an easier difficulty because it would annihilate the enjoyment you currently get from beating the boss on the normal difficulty. I think this is hard for many people to understand so I expect disagreement, but this will indeed be the case for the majority of players. “don’t play easier difficulty” is not a good counter-argument.
Do two achievements to get free 20 slot bags, buy the other 20 slots bags. Halloween pail costs less than 10g I think.
Use deposit materials button.
Right click item → sell on tp to see what it’s worth.
There are very few items that aren’t materials and aren’t tradeable. If you really can’t figure out if an untradeable item is valuable just bank it. Highly unlikely that you can’t tell how valuable an item is though.
Buy gems with gold to buy a bag slot.
Colin said that the marketing team said that the esport thing brings in new players and that it is pretty successful at doing that. If that is true I have nothing against it, more players is good.
Can anyone actually consistently break Gorseval’s bar with slick shoes alone? I find that slick shoes are super inconsistent. Sometimes they break the entire bar in less than 1 second and sometimes they just kind of slowly break half of the bar and that’s it. And sometimes somewhere in between.
I know how slick shoes work: you have to exit the area of the last puddle to spawn a new puddle. So I’ve been doing that and I’ve gotten better at it with practice, breaking the entire bar more consistently, but it still seems like sometimes they don’t work (slowly breaks half of the bar and stops).
Do any engis here use a specific pattern for running around inside Gorseval with good results?

High end food is only a 1-2% damage increase depending on how cheap you want to be. One person using it makes it like a 0.1-0.2% difference. The boss lasts 1 second longer?
If you need to use expensive food to beat raids then you have far bigger l2p issues than the performance loss from a cheap food. But feel free to waste your gold.
If your party is experienced at the boss fight and can kill it easily, sure they can use cheap food. However if trying for a first kill every little bit helps. Given how often groups beat a boss with several or all people downed, I expect everyone to use good food for that extra 1%. There’s been many occasions where a group beat Gorseval 1 second before world eater finished. If someone was using cheap food there, gg no awesome victory, try again.
It’s not too late, just look in LFG, or in the “Looking for…” category of these forums, or find a guild by other means.
I don’t think it will ever be the case that no one would want to take a new player. There will always be groups willing to take new players and also there will always be groups of mostly new players.
Just do Teq daily and you will get it.
PVP Nameplate Icons, Show Player Names [OFF]

I dislike the pvp tags as they are, but if they looked “cleaner” and more conspicuous I probably wouldn’t mind. It’s just that a big yellow square is too much.
Don’t use expensive food.
A tad rude to the rest of your raid party, don’t you think? :P
If your party constantly wipes at 1-2% health, then it’s rude.
This logic only works if you’re the only one using cheap food. But even then it DOESN’T work because your cheap food is making every phase last longer, creating more chances for failure than just at the very end.
Also causing even ONE wipe because of cheap food is rude.
I will be clear here, there are a lot of people play this and other mmo who have Asperger syndrome and other similar conditions who cannot use things like team speak. We come hear to escape exclusion.
Most groups are perfectly ok with someone joining ts and not talking. They just want everyone to hear instructions and attack calls.
Aside from knockbacks, the trick is to not stand in them. Green circle seekers are unavoidable of course, but for non green circle ones, just don’t stand in them.
I think the meteorite shards are ok because I want at the very least 2 more sets of ascended gear and this is a cheap and easy way of getting them. Even after I get the 2 sets I’d probably want extra weapons, and maybe one of those cosmetic weapons if they look good, though those are expensive. I’m satisfied with shard rewards for a long time. And then they add rewards for other wings.
Boss drops were quite bad for me, only crap exotics, no exception.
On a zerker set, you’re getting maybe a “massive” 52 extra stat points, plus another 60 armour. If you seriously go into a group and nod in satisfaction that everyone must be using ascended armour because everything is going much more smoothly than other groups, then you need to get real. Individual skill and knowing your optimal rotations is hugely more important. There are a whole list of considerations, starting with using good foods, sigils, runes, etc. that can individually matter several times more than whether someone’s using ascended or exotic armour.
Good players are more likely to have ascended armor. The correlation goes the other way around. I have found this correlation to be very noticeable.
Also someone with ascended armor is more likely to have good sigils, food.
Also the bosses are defeated with several or all people downed surprisingly often. The 1-2% of dps really matters. Big kudos to Anet for designing the fights this way btw.
If I’m going to spend the next few hours trying to beat a boss I sure as kitten want people with the best performance possible.
In other games, raiding is how you got that gear. You go to the raid to get that thing, not to already have it so can show up looking on point and sparkly.
I know you’re replying to the other person but I want to mention that if you beat VG you unlock the option of buying ascended armor, approximately 1 piece per 2 weeks.
Changing visual effects is really not going to accomplish much unless they nerf the visuals of most skills in the game in which case it will look like kitten (just like the new skill visuals) and I assume that will turn some people off the game. I certainly wouldn’t play a game that used to look good but then was made to look significantly worse.
Raids will destroy GW2, because raid people now only want a certain (very select few) of classes in the raid.
That’s not true at all.
