WvW – teamplay like dungeons/raids/fractals but without the “same encounter” mechanics
Discord makes money by selling your user data and usage history – that alone gives me pause.
Welcome to WvW – I bet you’re new. We’ve been largely ignored by Anet since going live and most of us have given up hope of any change. We play because we love WvW; warts and all.
Most don’t care about rewards – we never had them before so pips really don’t matter. Just having something is better than we’ve had.
Guardians typically can do more damage than warrior but depends on the build (power, condi, etc.).
I play both – love the warrior even though the Guardian does more damage. I just can’t get the hang of Guardian.
There is already a lobby – that’s the whole purpose behind EoTM
I’m getting 4 pips every 5 min, at this rate I have to play wvw for 30 hrs to hit the ticket cap per week. It’s a little ridiculous for new or even average players of wvw. (Even worse if your server comes in 3rd).
This is what has led to afk pip farming and frankly I don’t blame them. Apparently wvw is the new grindfest of the game.
Here’s the thing – the pip system is meant to reward loyal and enduring WvW players. The goal is to get permanent players. It’s not meant for those who want to “jump in…get reward” then jump out. If you want it, you will need to become a dedicated WvW’er and put WvW into your play rotation for the foreseeable future.
I’ve been playing WvW almost exclusively (had to PvE to get elite and durability runes) since Seasons 1. I’ve been in fight guilds, GvG guilds and PPT guilds. Now, I pretty much run guildless because of the intra-guild drama that inevitably happens.
It pains me to hear all this “elite guild” stuff. That’s not what GW2 is about nor what makes WvW so blasted great. I’ve been in guilds where we would run tagless, trying to shake the pugs. Bottom line is it doesn’t work (pugs still follow) nor does it really affect things in the long run. Sure maybe we lost a fight or two that we would have won otherwise, but no big deal.
We then tried running half our raid time closed and tagless (announcing it to the map…but also saying we’ll be opening it up in an hour). That worked OK – people would mostly respect it. Then we started to always run tagged and invite the pugs in. Our driver would teach builds, positions, rotations, etc. Over time, the overall quality in pugs got better and we had built in recruiting tool.
GW2 is about inclusion, not exclusion. WvW isn’t closed ended like PvP or raids..it’s open to everyone. Maybe if the “get gud” guilds would spend some of their time teaching, they might get some good fights and some good recruits to boot!
I doubt the “commander” bonus will be that significant – in the time it takes you to earn 10 pips, the commander might earn 12…not a big deal. Probably get a lot of tags at the beginning but if you’re on a server for more than a few weeks, you already know the good commanders. I don’t see the veterans joining up with an unknown tag. When the unknown tag gets one-pushed a few times, their squad will quit. If you think your guild is too good for pugs, no problem – just continue to run tagless.
Personally, I remember back to Season 1 when I was a noob and I learned so much by following some good tags. We need new blood in the game – I hope the experienced tags will welcome the new pugs and train them.
The only thing that worries me is the AFK participation – with queued maps, people standing around isn’t good. However, it sounds like they are addressing it. If you’re not an active WvW’er, you will get less from your low rank and it appears that you’ll need to do more than tag a yak to get pips.
I hope this revitalizes the game mode!
Totally due to the map!
The players have jumped on Anet because they’ve given/done things that we haven’t asked for (or it’s their interpretation of what we want):
- Desert BL – all we wanted were more open maps to make the massive fights easier. We got the opposite.
- EoTM – we never asked for it
- Golem Week – never asked for it
- Portable cannons – never asked for it
- Scoring changes – asked for it but the idea was that Anet would continue to change/develop it into something that works better. Granted, this won’t really be fixed until server balance is fixed
- Linking – we asked for server balance and got linking. We’ve given it a try and it just doesn’t work. No one’s fault but a revision needs to be forth coming (not a year and waiting)
- The other “improvements” such as getting gold for daily is only in WvW because it’s in PvE. It never would be implemented only in WvW.
The poster about petting the cat hit it right – Anet rightfully is hesitant to change things given the community response. But the solution is simple – get the darn dev’s to actually play WvW for more than 1 hour a month and they can see what we’re talking about.
In that case the tier Mag is in will always get you fights. They could care less about PPT…only fights.
I believe the thread of poll #1 has a red post that says that if DBL was not supported no other WvW maps would be done.
Could you please locate that post and provide a link? I’m not seeing it.
Maybe try a tanky backline (ranger? necro?). Get a few hits in then back off. Use some exp boosts to make it go faster; all you need to do is keep your participation up.
Good luck!
As someone who only plays the endgame content (WvW)…I’m happy. Finally getting some attention.
I thought WvW was the endgame content. PvE until you memorize the computer moves (just becomes routine then), next PvP to learn how to fight individually but against an unpredictable opponent, then WvW to add team play and strategy
I think linking is working just fine but some could use some tweaks:
1. Link on a more frequent basis
2. Forget linking; just merger servers and let’s move on
You absolutely can. There are a lot of players that play almost exclusively PvP and/or WvW (I only WvW). A few years ago when I started playing and gearing up, I was forced to PvE to get equipment, etc. and most recently had to play HoT for durability runes.
Now with the reward tracks and heroics dealers newer players can gear up much easier in WvW including runes, etc.
Personally I think I’ve never seen a Rev commanding.
Mal, from OnS (on TC) commands on a Rev
Time for the DB bandwagon to de-stack
T1 can get laggy on the big battles but nothing too bad. Dragonbrand (DB) is known for being a bandwagon server; it rises as much as it falls. If you want good fights and some stability, try an open T1 server (probably TC or JQ) or join your friends on FA. WvW with friends is a much better experience.
EoTM is not WvW and is a different experience; don’t play it much. I’m pretty much a pure WvW player.
The root cause of bandwaggoning is man-power rules everything in WvW.
This is WvW – the intent is massive groups fighting other massive groups. It’s not roaming, it’s not havoc – it’s large group versus large group.
Bandwagons happen because people get tired of being in very uneven matches for months at a time or they want more action. The only way to counter this is to spread the population out. It’s been seen that players won’t do it on their own.
The only solution (abet a very unpopular one) is to put everyone into a pool and Anet allocates to the severs. No transfers allowed. Then, every few months, everyone goes back into the pool and gets re-allocated to smooth out the populations.
With the megaserver setup, servers mean nothing in PvE so no reason to have PvE and WvW servers.
Large caps lead to the problem of stacking and coverage gaps. While painful, the “small server” concept of Tyler’s is actually workable. Tyler could put together small server slices to even out coverage and population.
I wonder if free transfers were available (of course T1 servers would have to be “full”), the WvW population would voluntarily de-stack themselves. It’s the only solution unless Anet decides to force de-stack. I don’t think either will happen; leaving us right where we started.
How about making it a bit more “realistic”? The rate of fire of a “real” arrow cart is very slow; they had to reload all those arrows. So one way is to leave it as is but just increase the CD time to 15 or 30 seconds between volleys.
I’m not a WvW player by any means, but I might just try some, just to see how long it does take to get one.
I’m hearing it takes about 8-8.5 hours of just afk standing around based on getting the lowest points per tick. If you actually just follow a group and actively participate, you can 4x that amount which would drastically cut your time down.
Regardless of the notice, if you’re making a legendary, spending a few hours in WvW (compared to say map completion) isn’t a big burden at all. Think of all the WvW players that have to play much longer PvE content.
As an older gamer who grew up on playing nothing more exciting than Pong, WvW is my preferred game. PvE is way too static and boring for me.
I had to do Octovine to get my Durability runes and I had to farm the maps for mats for my ascended gear. I’ll never get a Legendary because I won’t do the amount of PvE required.
Don’t wait. Some updates are already in and others are on the way. WvW is very different than before and I think for the better. Weaker servers are linked to higher tiered servers, game mechanics are different, the elite specializations are in and there is a special reward track.
Thanks thunderfall for a real response! If WvW is dead perhaps I will wait until the updates so I can enjoy it more. That’s good that it’s getting updates though.
@Gator and Fluffball: If I wasn’t asking for the opinions of others I wouldn’t have come to this forum in the first place. Kind of obvious that’s what I wanted by my post existing in the first place lol. Also, I uninstalled because I was quitting the game and didn’t want the ability to log back in and am hesitant to reinstall because I don’t want to be disappointed again. Not hard to figure out.
The biggest thing I liked about the dbls was that everyone hated them. I could spend hours patrolling the south loaded with 1v1s and small team fights. There was more to cap as a roamer & you could cap a camp with out 10 people coming to kill you. Also the terrain was interesting and kept you on your toes instead of just putting on auto run. I think the rotation will be a good thing.
Isn’t that more PvP/PvE than WvW?
It’s called WvW, not GvG for a reason. Same reason it’s not called “Solo Roaming World”
Guilds on powerful servers (such as T1/T2) have little incentive to move even if it means not growing as fast as they would like. In order to balance population, I agree that Tyler is on the right track – you need more slices in the “cake” so every piece is roughly the same. Unfortunately the only way to do it is to force some changes.
You can see that BG is the most stacked server. Even without ET, I doubt any other server combo could take them (unless you paired TC with DB or TC with YB) and put them up against solo BG. Not saying you should but it will be impossible to balance population unless the larger servers are broken up…one way or another.
1. Get Teamspeak
2. Go to Eternal Battlegrounds
3. Ask in map chat for instructions on joining your Teamspeak server
4. Look for a tag and follow it
5. Post on the WvW forum any questions you may have or ask in map chat/teamspeak
Magira.6390, get a team a 2 or 3 players, u cant be expecting to do it all alone.
Yes, it looks like this as the end of the solo roaming would come. The World Linking is the kiss of death.
Thankfully yes it’s the end
They tried lower caps about 2 years ago. It didn’t work. Queues were high and didn’t help lag.
Another issue is spreading out – look at the whining people have with the linking. People don’t want to move servers. Locking servers didn’t really help either.
The queues weren’t significantly any different after the guilds transferred in so it’s not that. It’s the mergers.
Top 5:
1. Revert maps or fix DBL’s
2. Skill balance
3. Get rid of gimmicks – rock walls, banners, etc.
4. Rewards
5. Population balance
I only play WvW and proud of it!
