Hi and welcome back.
End game in Gw2 is what you make it to be, which is why it’s always difficult to answer these kind of questions.
You can do dungeons, pvp, wvw, hunt achievements, maybe finish the living story. You can also go for titles, skins, make alts and learn new professions.
My advice is to play what you enjoy, try out stuff and not worry what the end game should be.

Which build would you pick?

in Players Helping Players

crochip.2389

That is tough decision. I’ve roamed with both specs for a long time and both are very fun.
Trap ranger is strong with the constant stealthing with the trapper runes and might go well with a mesmer, engie requires more skill and has more varied condi specs though, so you can switch around.
I would probably go for condi engie first, but if you decide for it, please don’t use perplexity runes, it will make it too easy and you might get bored of it fast.

Good WvW roamer?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: crochip.2389

crochip.2389

I don’t think any profession can be considered absolute best, especially in roaming where there is lots of build variety. Every profession has several good builds, some are easier to master, some are not.
A good player can make any profession “the best” for him.
All 3 you mentioned are very good for both roaming and dueling.
I’m not much of a pve player, but from what i’ve seen warrior and thief are top choices, and ranger is also pretty good if you play it correctly.
I would suggest going for what you enjoy playing the most.

How to Get Better at Understanding PvP

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: crochip.2389

crochip.2389

Well, you mentioned playing other classes, which is the best option in my opinion. But other than that, you can also check streams with experienced players and see how they play and what is important to dodge/counter.
You can check metabattle for most of the builds that are used, or you can just go to a build editor and go through every trait and skill of the profession you wish to learn, although you won’t learn the animations of skills this way, it will give you an idea how the skills play out so you can start recognizing them in game when you see them.
As you get experience the game will slow down and you will be able to see what is going on most of the time, it comes with practice.

Is this "Normal" for a GLeader in GW2?

in Players Helping Players

crochip.2389

Class composition and builds in “hardcore” wvw guilds are very important, and unfortunately for rangers and engineers, other classes do their roles better, which is why they are left out from top guilds.
I think the main problem was that he wants the guild to be more serious than the other members and although he was right when saying 3 mesmers, rangers, engies and nomad eles are not optimal, he did that in a totally wrong way.
Seems like a more relaxed wvw guild would suit you more, i would suggest talking to the guild leader before joining another guild and seeing what he wants the guild to be.

Advice on builds with a sunless weapon

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: crochip.2389

crochip.2389

Sunless weapon have the rabid stats, right? So that means you should use it on a condi build, which aren’t that good in dungeons, but for WvW roaming there are several good condi and hybrid builds, especially for engineer.
Both warrior and mesmer also have good condi builds, but i personaly don’t like them much.
So your options for weapons would be getting a pistol or a shield for engie, sword or longbow for warrior, staff or scepter/torch for mesmer.
You could also try to make a wvw build that uses a different weapon with those stats if you would like or just get the skin you like the most and ignore the stats or the weapon itself.

PvP help wanted...

Posted by: crochip.2389

A
- The job of a bunker is to keep the middle point hopefully to your team, or at least decap.
.

Just wanted to add a bit to this part. Bunker guard has to be in the team fights, where he can heal and cleanse allies. For example, if a guard sits on mid point the whole match, and the enemy team ignores middle, the rest of the team will be 4v5 on other nodes, and the guard is pretty much useless just sitting there.

Also, if the mid point is lost, there is no point on going there alone, bunker guardian can’t decap or 1v1 anything, so you have to find where you are needed the most.
I see alot of people making the mistake on going to mid no matter what the situation is. Like thaddeus said, learning how to rotate properly comes with experience.

It’s a bit difficult to play bunker guard at the moment, since there are celestial builds that can bunker a node, have better mobility and can also 1v1, so they mostly replaced bunker guards. But if you enjoy the playstyle, it’s a good place to start learning pvp.
Feel free to add me ingame, i’ll be glad to help if i can when i’m online.

Can I buy lvl 80 gear to use in PvP?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: crochip.2389

You don’t need gear in sPvP, you are upscaled to 80 and stats are determined by the amulet you use, so level of the gear you wear has no influence.

All of the basic traits are unlocked, but to use the new grandmaster traits they added later in the game, you either need to do the event specified to unlock them or just buy them with gold directly from the trainer. You can find the trainer in the heart of the mists and in major cities.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: crochip.2389

crochip.2389

I like the idea that warriors can resist to movement-impairing CC (flavorful with their “sturdy bodies”), but I dislike the idea that warriors can Ride the Lightning with their greatsword.

Would be nice to see their GS leaps range be decreased to 900 and Rush requiring a target (alongside being bug fixed, so it’s actually useful in combat). What do people think of that?

Yeah, no.

Why is everyone so bent on having forced targets in an action combat system ?

Additionally what GS leap ? Warriors dont have one.

You know what would be lovely, FGS reduced Whirl and Dash range to match Warriors GS.

GS mobility is way over the top in wvw, either a longer cooldown or a shorter range is definitely needed. And the difference with the gs is that it is an elite skill with 180s cooldown. You can switch to Gs every 5s.

Which class needs sword the most?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: crochip.2389

crochip.2389

In what game mode? WvW, sPvP, PvE or just overall?

Thief-In all game modes, it is the main weapon. Maybe in large scale wvw, shortbow is more important. Other then that, you can use sword as a main weapon.
Guardian-PvE mainly, in sPvP less so, in WvW only in roaming, large scale specs use 2-handed weapons
Warrior-Only “worker” warriors in large scale wvw, or condi specs in roaming.
Ranger-In all game modes, sword is pretty good. It is the main weapon for PvE, for WvW mostly taken for mobility, and it’s decent in sPvP.
Mesmer-PvE main weapon, WvW also important. sPvP currently uses more staff/gs but sword can be ok too.

What's the point of WvW and Roaming??

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: crochip.2389

crochip.2389

For me wvw is a place to get good fights, get better at dueling and fighting multiple players. All about the fights. Others prefer to fight for their server, getting the most points for it, you just have to find what you enjoy the most.

Regarding the guardian and warrior question, i would go for guardian in your case. PvE in itself isn’t difficult so you don’t have to worry about having to be a perfect guardian to be able to do good in dungeons. Warrior is definitely easier to play, but i also found it to be the most boring in comparison to other professions.

WvW Necro Build?

in Necromancer

Posted by: crochip.2389

1) For large scale WvW, power wells is much better then going for condition. As far as i know, there are 2 builds that are mostly used: 6/2/0/06 or 0/4/0/4/6. I personaly prefer the second one.

2) You need to find what you are most comfortable with, in terms of survivability. I first started prety tanky, with lots of knights and cavalier gear. The i started to remove some cavalier and add some zerker until i found the right balance for me.
Some can play full zerker, some need a bit toughness, so i would suggest to find what is best for you.

3)Staff is a must, the second set is usualy axe/dagger, but you can also use dagger mainhand or warhorn offhand.

New and looking for a class. best 1v1 roamer?

in Players Helping Players

Anything but Guardian should have at least one way of being a decent roamer. Maybe Necros aren’t so great at it either, haven’t played that class and I don’t recall ever really running into any who do that, not that I WvW much.

Actually, guardians can also roam pretty effectively, but you have to spec and gear for mobility (traveler runes at least) to have a chance, otherwise you get trained/kited easily.
But yeah, if you are a good player who knows his class, any class is viable.

1) Yes, both energy and battle will proc in that case. Sigils no longer share cooldown, so you can use any combination except two of the same sigils, like 2xbatlle sigils.

2)Warriors have a trait that allows them to swap weapons every 5s, elementalist also proc swap sigils when changing atunements and engineers when swaping kits. The sigils would be too strong for those profesions without an icd.

Need advice - came back from a big break

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: crochip.2389

crochip.2389

Not much of a pve guy, but i’l try to answer. For the 2nd and 3rd question, i leave a possibility i’m wrong since i don’t do pve much.

1.Rangers can take down warriors, but it takes time and is very build reliant. Also depends if you are talking about spvp or wvw. For the reroll maybe mesmer might suit you, it has high burst damage and is able to kite pretty well.

2.As far as i know, glass cannon is the way to go in dungeons, at least for people how try to clear it fast. I usualy join a more relaxed run since my gear isn’t fully optimal for speed runs.

3.For gold farming i think it’s best to run different dungeons and paths each day for dungeon dailies and not run the same path over and over since they have diminishing returns now. Hotw p1, cof p1, TA up and forward and SE 1 and 3 are the fastest and easiest. Not sure about the rest, i only did those when i needed gold. Also, strength got nerfed so there are couple of good cheaper alternatives now too. I think Pack and scholar were mentioned to be on par with strength now.

4.The easiest way to see the real mesmer is that the clones don’t strafe or go backwards, they only go forward or stand on one spot. They also don’t jump, dodge or do any other attacks other then auto attacks.
After a while it will just be natural to see the real mesmer, just need to practice.

[WvW] Staff/Hammer build thoughts

in Guardian

Posted by: crochip.2389

crochip.2389

-It’s WvW, there is almost never enough condi removal, soldier runes with shouts are a great way to have constant removal for you and your group.
Haven’t tested any chill runes, but i don’t think it wouldn’t work that great, the chill uptime will not be that high to justify the 6th bonus, and it usualy get cleared very fast.

-Hammer auto chain is veeery slow, and even after that you would need to stand on the symbol to get the protection. In wvw you will rarely stand that long in one spot, or at least you shouldn’t.
Hold the line has a very short cooldown so it synergizes well with soldier runes and pure of voice.
-You could maybe go melandru runes and swap the second stability for condi clear on virtue of resolve. And then leave the signet if you wish.

-Like i said, i made the tankiest possible build, geting some extra crit chance would be nice since it’s harder to proc the crits on hammer then on gs, for example.

-You won’t feel the condition damage increase on this build with celestial, but all other stats are useful. If you can get better stats with other gear, go for it. This is just my preferance.

-They did change the way sigils work, all sigils now have their own cooldowns, so both energy and hydromancy will proc when you swap weapons. Haven’t tested ice sigils, i prefer to have control over when i hit the chill. Also, hydromancy is aoe and also deals decent damage, ice is single target.
-If i have selfless daring on, double energy is a must for me. It’s a free dodge and 600hp heal.

You can test out the chill duration thingies, i’m sure it would be annoying to get hit by that without having condi removal to clear it.

[WvW] Staff/Hammer build thoughts

in Guardian

Posted by: crochip.2389

crochip.2389

So much misinformation in ezeriel’s post…
Anyways, guardians are in a really good spot in wvw. They are essential in both small scale and large scale, as well as being beasts in roaming if specced and played properly.

If you don’t want altruistic healing, i would probably go with something like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQJASWlsApWolDxVI8DNBFRl5LseYnALwEcZAkgA-TVyHwABeCA+UG8QHwSleeU/R3+DxVCC4SAcRTAZAYGDA-w

Couple of points about the build:
-It is the tankiest version, so you can change the gear if you want more damage.
-You can swap retributive armor for either strength in numbers or cooldown reduction for JI
-Your role would be to cc enemies, support your group and secure stomps/ress.
-Damage would be decent, but you probably wouldn’t be able to kill anything solo, it would require more dps oriented gear.
-Precast ring of warding and JI combo is a fun way to get the opponnent to panic
-For solo i’d swap staff for gs or sword/focus

Other:
-Symbol traits are generaly not worth it, imo. You would give up too much to be able to take those, and possibly skip better traits.
-Stats depend alot on personal preference and what you feel most comfortable on. I started really tanky, and for roaming just started shaving off the tanky gear for more damage until i found the spot i like.
-Vigor is very important for guardians, especialy because of the selfless daring trait. About 20-30% crit chance should be enough to keep a decent uptime from the Vigorous Precision trait.
-Selfless daring scales really well with healing power, virtue of resolve and shelter less, but still decent. I prefer to have about 400-500 healing power in these kind of builds, it adds up nicely.

Hope i helped at least a bit. Those are from my personal experience, so if other guardians here have some different thoughts on the points i made, i wouldn’t mind being corrected.

Profession Strengths

All classes are great at everything.
As for builds, whatever that fits your playstyle.

I don’t believe in cookie cutter builds.
Every build has it’s purpose.

I wouldn’t entirely agree with this. There is a reason why certain classes and builds are better in each situations. Sure, you can build a warrior with banners, but you can’t expect to be effective as a wvw roamer, for example.

For OP, i’m not much of a PvE player, but i do alot of wvw, solo roaming and bigger organized play, so i can only give my thought for that game mode.

For wvw zerg, currently 4 classes stand out as most effective:
Necro (Power wells build)
Staff elementalist
Warrior (Shout support or DPS)
Guardian (shout support)

Mesmers are currently used primeraly for timewarp and veil, so 1 or 2 are generaly enough.
Medium armor classes are not as good as the above, unfortunately, with rangers at end of the list.

For roaming pretty much every class has a viable build if you know how to play it.

Scarlet is releasing Quaggzilla from its underground prison!

Great, now i’m gonna be dissapointed by anything other than a Quaggzilla.

I’m leaning toward engie and warrior.

Engine just seems like so much fun and they’re so kitten slippery.

Can you run apothecary with an engie?

I reccomend engineer as well, it’s a fun class for roaming.
I tried both apothecary and rabid version, and both are good. I prefer rabid for the on crit condition procs, but you can also mix those two sets to your liking.
Just don’t use perplexity, it makes bad habbits
