I can confirm the above post. Deleting all characters allows for a free server move. Paying gems will move all of your characters.

Bank, Currency, Achievments are tied to the account and transfer with you. You can only have one home server at any given time.

Yeah SoR is pretty good. Can’t really comment on population as I have no point of reference, but there seems to be a enough around most times to do champs. WvW they are holding their own (though this week we are really laying a beating down)

I think I meant more along the lines of buying an upgrade from the NCSoft store or something of the like. Gem store is optionally a cash option, but can be done with gold.

I believe it is in the gem store for 2000 gems under upgrades. There might be a cash option as well, but I am not sure.

Early in the game, walk to areas instead of fast travelling. It saves you money and you can fight things and gather along the way. I took this stop-and-smell-the-flowers approach on my character and I was well ahead of the curve. If you are not past 15 by the time you finish the starter zone, as mentioned above, hit another starter zone.

Use XP boosters if you got them as well. Once you are ahead of the curve you will do fine.

I’m not very into it myself. I mean its great fun and I love the tropes and the style of the mini-game. I missed it in April, so it is nice to get a chance to play it again. I just need a break from the go-go-go of LS.

I tend to be an achievement chaser but I think I will skip out on this one. Nothing really interests me in it. I think I will take the break in my LS interest to continue on world completion and finishing my PS on my fresh (and first) 80.

Or I will catch up on another game for a few days. Either way. Not dissatisfied at all. If anything I like that I can use this as a break and be ready for the next part of the LS.

If the progression model for WoW appeals to you, then GW2 will seem like a big “what do i do now?” moment.

There was either a post or a blog I read recently that was called 80 things to do at 80 and there is quite a bit. For the explorer/achiever types, this game has a lot to offer. For those that rush to get into the end game, not so much.

Fractals are on a whole different level from dungeons. They continue to increase in difficulty. I’m somewhat interested but the repetitive nature would bore me. Some might say the same for world exploration, but I just got a new computer so seeing all the areas is interesting to me.

Hope you find what you enjoy doing in GW2, if not, there are plenty of options for games nowadays.

If they are just starting and don’t mind re-rolling, have them sell their gear and delete their characters. When you have no characters, server transferring is free.

Also, you may not realize, but transfer fees are based on the population of the target realm. I’m not sure all the amounts except for high pop servers, which is 1800 gems.

Things to note:
- bank contents, currency, and achievements are tied to the account not the character. They will still be there even with no characters.
- if the server you are transferring to is full, try again later when it is less populated (like later in the evening, early morning).

Combos are definitely not used enough. I think most use them by accident. I just started using a build on my Engineer which greatly leverages self-combos to maximize potential. It would be nice to see a bit of a tutorial or more game hints on combo fields and how to use them.

I feel cheated when I log off my Engy with Speedy Kits and onto my lower level toons. I’d hate to see everyone having some sort of non-stop swiftness (not because I want to be special) as it would get to the point where you might as well make everyone go faster natively.

Level cap raises seem to go against Guild Wars in general. I like the idea of unlocking new skills as one would have done in GW1, but I’m happy that I don’t need to relevel, regear. I played WoW since Launch and every expansion its a bit more ridiculous. DPS calculated in the millions??

Another option, albeit not a good one if you have completed as much as you have, is delete all your toons and you can transfer for free. Bank, currency and achievements remain. It was a good option for me as I only had one level 50 and nothing else and I wanted to reroll anyways.

Also you can guest on other servers as mentioned above. If you dont do WvW with your friends then that is a solid option.

Gem prices can change but I have 200 gems and they can be sold for about 7g50s atm. Buying them is more than that, but that might give you a rough idea.

I believe the Quaggan branch features a pitched battle underwater.

Are you wearing it or previewing it? I have a transmuted Anonymity Hood in my bank but if my mesmer previews it, it looks like a mask.

1. Any class can play a support role. If you like Elementalist, play it up. It has a high skill ceiling, but given how much variety in builds there are, you can likely find something to fit your playstyle. If you like healing, certain professions are better than others. Guardian is strong in this. Engineer and Elementalist can play this role as well. Ultimately support in this game has far more depth than just healing.

I haven’t played much beyond Mesmer and Engineer so I cannot comment on each class with solid knowledge to back it up.

2. This feature is no more as gold is account-wide now and the need to put it in the bank was moot. All currencies are account bound now. You can check your currerncy window on your Hero (“H”) sheet to see.

3. You can join a guild and guest in PvE with any server (in your region, I believe). You can join multiple guilds as well. Your account is what joins. Every character you make will be in it. You can choose which one to represent and have access to guild chat, bank, etc. You cannot guest in WvW as you can only represent your world.

As a note, if you find a guild you like on another server but don’t want to pay gems to transfer, delete your toons and then change servers for free. Any achievements, currency, or bank contents will persist. I can confirm this.

I’m biased (80 eng and decided to do the Asura race stories as an eng as well) and will say Engineer.

I loved mesmer but I couldn’t put down my engineer. So much viability. I always avoided FT but once I started chucking fireballs from the end of the barrel, I was hooked.

I read something about needing to be part of one of the sub-events for closing a minion portal. I have since made a point to involve myself in at least one minion portal event until it medals and I have been incrementing fine since.

You could breathe life into your Engineer by trying out some different builds. I jsut shifted to a FT/EG hybrid and it is insane how fun it is. I am constantly switching kits and lining up combos off my own abilities.

Engineer is a complex class and has a lot of options.

Easy way to find out. Create yourself another character. I cannot answer this one beyond that as I have not bought the upgrade nor do I plan to.

The FoR gate is nice. I was a bit confused at that point in the Vigil story as to why Ebonhawke would be in Rurikton.

As I mentioned before, there are a few things that MIGHT be affecting your ability to complete these achievements:

Killing Molten Alliance or pirates does not count towards event credit.

Killing spawns from the Clockwork part piles does not count towards event credit.

The best bet for getting event completion is going to be taking down the Clockwork champions. They are directly tied to event completion.

Please keep providing details when you fail to receive completion.

Thats kind of silly considering the Aetherblade and Molten Alliance killing is key to completing the event (yet not the achievement…). They should fix this as it might make it so people are not farming the reinforcements, making it harder to successfully complete the event.

I try not to worry about missing too much. I came back during the election starting and did a bit of the achievements for it. I kept leveling. With QJ I sought out all the achievements for it and was successful. I had to get an escort to one or two of my balloon towers. I completely skipped the Gauntlet as I was only level 40 or so when QJ dropped. I got a lot of XP exploring and doing the events.

Now with CC, I have been doing invasions and achievements and am at level 76. I think I might be able to finish up the CC achieves, but if not, so be it.

With the LS being temporary and every changing I have learned to accept that I just might miss some achievements. It is a good state to be in because it makes the game fun and less stressful.

Thanks for the responses. I believe I have gotten an exotic in bags opened prior. I’m happy knowing the items will be level appropriate (even if green) for when I hit 80.

The whirlwind of LS experience has left my equipment a bit mixed across the levels. For the most part I am up to date, but these levels have been coming so fast.

I’d do world completion on more than one toon….because I enjoy exploring this world.

I had this issue too. I got to 4/5 and had done about 9 invasions to no avail. I also did Frostgorge and did not get the Friend of Fire and Frost increment.

I submitted a bug and a support ticket and they said they may need to implement a fix but wont give me my achieves. Finally I did a zone I had not done (Bloodtide) and got my 5/5.

Still not sure what the deals is and I have no idea at this point, which zones I have done that counted and which I still need to do.

I have noticed that the contents of the yellow bags (also the boxes from completing an invasion) seem to scale with my level. Is this determined at the time of opening or when they are looted?

I only ask as I am a few levels from 80 (LS is mad XP!) and have been holding onto most of the bags after the first few invasions in hopes of having a solid set of (hopefully exotic) gear when I hit 80.

Can someone confirm this?

The only decision in your personal story (that will affect what you can access) is which order to join. This will affect what armor skins are available, but you can counter that with alts in the other orders and transmutation stones.

The personal story decisions prior to that just determine what story quests you go through on your way to the main story.

I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this….but here goes…

I’m trying to get the 6 HoM points to unlock the full Heritage Armor skins. I got three for linking accounts and would only require three more.

According to the GW wiki, the quickest option is a green and gold mini. Would anyone have any spares of these types they would be willing to give away? If not, what kind of gold am I going to need to obtain such as these?

I’m torn though as I only use my personal spending money on stuff like this and my limited amount left from my last birthday makes me have to pick and choose between gems or GW1 so I can unlock the Heritage skins.

I love the nature of some of the “bad guys” in the personal storyline. I enjoy how shades of grey quite often come into play.

I had poured over gaelic and celtic names coming up with something good. Ended up making my Mesmer a human hehe. I just started a Sylvari Ranger alt and ended up naming him Sprigley. Definitely plant sounding, not too blatant that it couldn’t be a normal name. Is it celtic/gaelic, not directly, but it works for me and doesn’t make me feel like I’m breaking anyones RP or immersion by picking it. I like it.

The last two letters of your first name and the first two letters of your last name are a derogatory term for someone who is Jewish. It probably censors it even if there is a space kitten<-see?

I named my Engineer Ezra Sarona. Name sake dating back to SWG (Ezrat Sraona). Dropped the t and rearranged the last name to make it more fantasy genre friendly.

My mesmer is Jumi Fioren. Jumi/Jume are names I have used on and off in various RPGs for female casters. Fioren I just introduced with this toon.

I also have a human thief named Arcadia Rumen. Came up with it during character generation and liked the flow of it.

I find it really strange that you cannot sell an item for less than vendor price, even though the sales tax would give you less than vendor price.

For example, If an item is vendorable for 19c and I list it for 20c, I would actually get 17c after tax (1c list fee, 2c sales tax). Now a new user of the TP may not understand the taxes and now ends up shooting himself in the wallet.

I would hope that one of two things can occur:

1. Make it so that a listed item cannot be listed for less than the vendor sell value AFTER fees and taxes (vendor value/0.85).

2. Remove the limit altogether. Let us reap the reward for those that list that low.

Personally, I would prefer number one. I facepalm every time I see an item listed for 1c above vendor value, however number two would at least let those that pay attention make some money off those that either do not know better or choose to undercut to the point of losing themselves money.

This is definitely from the Personal Storyline. I have it and love it on my engineer.

If our professions are star powered I want mine to be Bieber-vomit powered.

I was looking at builds for my mesmer as I level. I liked the idea of a condition build based off of the Staff. I created my own build and was going to go with Scepter/Focus as my swap. I went to play after creating this build and almost immediately reverted to running around with GS/Staff. I find this immensely powerful for leveling (mind you I am only at level 15 or so)

Does GS/Staff translate well into end game/PvP or is it more glass cannon-y? Any recommendations on how one would build off of these two weapons?

Toughness to hammer the AoEs? Still go for conditions (Staff would suggest it) right?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Ezra Sarona is a throwback to my first MMO character from SWG, Ezrat Sraona (not a typo in that last name).

The last name was a random generated one. The first name was originally going to be Ezra but I tacked the T on. I decided to lose the T again as I was playing SWGEMU recently and everyone kept calling me Easy Rat which is not my intended pronuciation. I felt Ezra was a bit more fitting to a fantasy genre.

I have an engineer named Kali Verholme. This is inspired by my long-time pally in WoW (hate me if you want, im over World of Kung-fu Panda) who was named Kalimura (an anagram of my wife’s name). I believe I used many other variations of this name for a time (Mirakula, Marakilu, etc) for alts.

Other characters include a Norn Ranger named Sigaard Wolfson. I used this in LOTRO briefly, the extra a was from Sigard being taken, though I feel the extra a makes it a bit more Norn-ish. Sigaard was a Warden.

Lastly, I have a Sylvari named Valjira, a partial namesake to one of my earliest WoW toons named Valja. She was my third toon actually, but my main for a long long time when I was more hardcore and raided heavily in vanilla. I was one of those sick people who enjoyed playing a priest as a healer.

Other toon names that I have used in GW2 are just names I like that fit the lore of the game.

I play 1-2 hours a night and maybe the occasional stint over the lunch break and I consider myself to be playing a lot. This is in the context of owning a business, plus holding down a full time job, being married, and having 4 kids and other commitments. I enjoy my time gaming. I used to play 6-8 hours a night, longer on weekends, and although I enjoyed it, I was really was not going anywhere in life.

I figure that each of us has to put their own playtime in context. When gaming becomes a problem is not measured by time, but by how you rate your priorities. If I come home and I have half an hour to squeeze in some game time before dinner, and the kids are playing, sometimes I do. I always feel better about playing with the kids though.

To the guy who said he played 16 hours a day though…that’s just sad. I don’t see how one can play that much and not have a problem. That leaves you 8 hours to sleep and work? Crazy.

Personally, I found myself to be lacking in motivation for RL success by my gaming habit. I felt a similar vibe from many that I played with in guild of days gone by. Several of them also worked in a crappy job and just carried on with it. I don’t mean to presume that everyone who games heavily is like that. I also knew several successful business owners that had plenty of play time.

Long story, short…

Question your priorities when it comes to gaming, in comparison to the rest of your life. If there are no other priorities, are you truly happy? If there are, which do you favour more? Gaming is the easy answer. RL is much more rewarding.
