Guild Wars 2 on Xbox One?

I personally think the real reason why Anet has said MANY times that GW2 will never come to consoles is because they want to maintain 100% control over the game.

If they release GW2 on the PS4 and Xbox One, they would first have to get Sony’s and Microsoft’s approval before they can do anything to the game. Which means if they want to release a bug fix patch or release a new LW episode they would have to first submit it to Sony and Microsoft and wait for them to approve it. This could mean console players could be 1, 2 or 3 LW episodes behind PC players.

I don’t think Microsoft would try to control it at all. They really only get power hungry with games they are developing/publishing. The only thing they would want probably would be a cut of the money coming in from the Xbox side of things. And Microsoft is a lot easier on the rules for updating now a days (At least I think). My friend had a little Indy game that Microsoft had nothing to do with, other than it being sold on the Xbox. It updated like every day for a week or two straight. So I’m pretty sure they are more laid back with things like that now. That being said, I don’t know how Sony is with stuff like that. Like I said, they seem a lot more strict now.

Thus if Anet has 100% control over GW2 they won’t have to give anyone a cut of the profit. Nor will they have to go through a middle man like Microsoft or Sony in order to do anything with their game.

I think it has nothing to do with which console has the least amount of restrictions or how much work it would take to port GW2 to consoles. It all comes down to having full ownership over the profit, full ownership over creative control and full control over the game where they can do what they like. Such as releasing a patch or new content when they want to and not having to wait for someone to approve it first.

I’m pretty sure they would always have full control of their game. Microsoft would never touch their profit, they would probably just want a little of the top from the initial sell of something on Xbox. If you are making $10 selling something. Then someone offers to sell it for you in a different town, they won’t change the product at all but they want $5 from the sell. You are getting $15 now and they are getting $5. Why wouldn’t you do it?

You seem to have strong opinions for someone who knows nothing.

Sony is less strict than Microsoft except for Xbox to PS4 crossplay only because it benefits Microsoft significantly more than sony.

The real less dumb reason is the cost. Let me break it down.

Cost of porting the game to either one of the platforms is expensive.

The cost of releasing patches is about 20k per patch and requires a lot of testing by platform holder. Look at how many patches arena net releases? Arena net could change their process to avoid releasing too many patches but at this stage of the game’s life, why would they?

Platform holder takes 30% of box price per game sold. I think gem store also.

Other MMO franchisee can do that because it was planned during the design process. Gw2 was not planned to have a console release.

The whole premise of this topic is based on the assumption that companies hate easy money. Anet probably doesn’t do it because they think it is not a cost effective use of their time. And it doesn’t even guarantee that there is a large Xbox audience waiting for gw2.

So you literally just repeated what others had said but had to add in that kitten comment at the beginning.

If you are selling something yourself for $10 and it’s working out really well and your making a good amount of income why would you risk investing a large amount of time and money to translate it over to something new (bringing GW2 to consoles), have someone else try to sell it, charging more for it and all you are doing is just hoping to remake the money spent in order to start making a profit again?

In the end, if someone can get onto Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network that means they have the internet and 99% chance also has a computer and/or laptop meaning if the really want to play GW2, they can just buy it for PC.

Guild Wars 2 on Xbox One?

Games too old and dev teams too small to make it worth halting other content development to work on porting it. Anet doesn’t seem to want to pay any fees to other companies to host their game since they dont put it on steam. Engine was built to work on PC not consoles, could be super complicated to port it.

The age of Guild Wars 2 has nothing to do with whether or not the game comes to modern consoles. For example, Kingdom Under Fire 2 a 8+ year old game is still slated to come to the PS4.

The one HUGE problem about bringing GW2 to consoles as others have said the UI would have to be completely built from scratch.

I personally think the real reason why Anet has said MANY times that GW2 will never come to consoles is because they want to maintain 100% control over the game.

Guild Wars 1 : Worth Buying?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

joshc.3129

Well I just went to go check it out and saw the pricess…..30 bucks each??? Sorry but I honesty don’t see it worth that much……EACH. It’s unfortunate but I won’t buy it.

you can buy the whole game with all the packs over on AMAZON !! also I have heard that you can buy it on steam as well too .

Shame you won’t be buying it. Guild Wars 1 is an amazing game. So is Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North and Guild Wars Beyond content that Anet sadly never finished.

If you do decided to buy it don’t compare it to Guild Wars 2. In my mind they are two different types of games.

Guild Wars 2 is a dumb down online mmorpg. Guild Wars 1 is in a way a more traditional mmorpg.

You might feel a little overwhelmed with Guild Wars 1 with being able to duel class and the crap ton of skills. Many mission require thought and being prepared meaning having to change up your build if you plan on soloing it and/or using henchmen and/or Heros.

In my mind Guild Wars 1 is the better game. Much MUCH better story across the base game and all 3 expansions and the Guild Wars Beyond content. Missions are actual missions that again require thought and not just spamming skills until everything is dead.

Downside to Guild Wars 1 for players coming from Guild Wars 2 is:
1. When you leave a town or outpost and go into a world map, that map is dedicated to you ONLY, so you won’t run across other players outside of towns and outposts.
2. In Guild Wars 1 there is no trading post, only player to player trading. So expect to spam “looking to buy”, “looking to sell” or “price check on (insert item)” in chat.
3. Builds mean so much more in Guild Wars 1 than Guild Wars 2. You will find yourself being killed a lot. One build may be great for certain missions but horrible for others.
4 Dying in Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall during a mission means you lost the mission and have to start back at the beginning. In Eye of the North when you die you can revive at the last checkpoint.
5 Getting material to make new armor requires you to farm nonstop or spam chat with “Looking to buy (insert item)”.
6. Achievements in Guild Wars 1 actually have to be earned. They aren’t just handed to you.

Losing interest in Living Story

in Living World

Posted by: joshc.3129

joshc.3129

Yeah I don’t/didn’t like how Season 3 jumped around a lot story wise but there are 2 main things I really hate about the Living Story.

1. How they go about with “end game” content. Meaning making all the enemies OP as hell. Don’t get me wrong end game content isn’t going to be easy but could they have made the White Mantle and more so the Jade Constructs any more powerful? I HATE the Lake Doric map do to how OP they made the White Mantle. Add in how fast the re-spawn time is makes it even worse.

2 The cryptic end boss fights in the story missions. I love a good challenge but also I like to have a hint how to go about the fight. Any hints you had to lure the Champion Unstable Abomination to the Larva and then kill the Larva in order to hurt him? No! Any hint you had to get the Champion Ice Beast to run into all the minions before you can actually start to damage him? Nope!

I too miss old Lion’s Arch. When I was running my Mesmer threw the personal story, the missions located in Lions Arch made me really miss the old layout. I was wishing the missions didn’t have walls and let me run around old Lion’s Arch again.

The new layout always came off to me as if Anet let their creative team have full reign in the redesign and they went crazy and no higher up ever came along and told them to stop.

Re-instauring the Dual class system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: joshc.3129

joshc.3129

It was also the duel class PLUS an ungodly amount of skills PLUS+ like others have said the nightmare it was for Anet to balance all those skills that helped create those ultra powerful builds that made you basically invincible if you played it right that helped crash and burn GW1 economy.

Also it was those ultra powerful builds that were being used on bots that in turn help crash GW1 economy.

When Anet first talked about Guild Wars 2 and how it was going to be set up they clearly said the reason why they chose to go with a single class profession and limited skills was because IT WAS a complete nightmare when it came to balancing all the skills in GW1.

It was also because of this balancing nightmare entire classes where nerfed to the point of being utterly useless, Rangers in GW1 comes to mind as an example, while other classes were basically ignored. Elementalist from day one in GW1 was handicapped do to every enemy more so in Hard Mode having protection from fire, air, earth and water, add in how Anet only really seemed to care about the fire skills and never really touch the air, water and earth skills, that in turn made those skills basically worthless to use since they were all overwhelmingly under powered.. Mesmer’s didn’t become PvE friendly until VERY late into the game’s life and was only seen before that as a PvP only class and Paragons were the poster child of a profession being completely ignored. Then again I don’t think Anet even knew how to begin fixing Paragons.

In the Beta Version of Guild Wars 2 Diversity’s Reach actually had a Cantha District for those who remember like how there is a district based off of Elona but there was a problem.

South Koreans didn’t like how their a architect style was mixed with Chinese architect styles and vise versa. So what happened? Upon full release the Cantha District was turned into the Great Collapse again for those who remember and was then turned into The Crown Pavilion. Anet did this since South Korea (where NCSoft, Anet parent company is based) and China is a huge market for them and they didn’t want to upset either side.

Anet has said they would love to go back to Cantha but it’s still up in the air.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: joshc.3129

joshc.3129

The main thing is that your positive part rests upon the assumption that they only have those two weeks to work on the releases.

This is false.
As far as we know most of part 1 of Season 2 was already done before it even started.

The shortness of the chapters is more likely a design decision rather than a creation time issue.

True but I still think Living Story missions and other missions for that fact should be overhauled.

They main problem I have always had with Guild Wars 2 is how simple and short the PS missions and the LS mission are. I get them being simply is a way to allow more players to get into the game but longer missions that are more complex and what not doesn’t mean the missions being simply has to be sacrificed.

The games missions are way to focused at casual playing. Look at the mission from Guild Wars 1. To do a mission itself and skipping the bonus may take 15 mins or longer and doing the bonus it might take 20 mins or longer and you have to actually put thought and planning into how to complete the mission unlike the missions in Guild Wars 2 where you can charge in with your eyes closed, put no thought into it, spam skills and win in about 5 mins or so.

After the expansion pack comes out and everything gets settled if Anet hasn’t already decided to possibly abandon the Living Story idea hopefully with LS Season 3 they will overhaul it.

What I mean is abandon the 2 week updates possibly in favor of something like a once a month release schedule .

Downside: only one release a month.

Positive: Gives them more time to make each episode larger and more fulfilling. If they are making a new map for it, allows them to take more time and go more into detail with it. Allows them to make the episodes longer. Look at the episode updates at the last half of Season 2. They can be beaten in like 15 mins. A once a mouth release schedule allows Anet to make the episode missions longer and more detailed and not have missions where all it is, is just you talking to a few people and *BAM*mission over.

Just my thoughts.

Also what would be the point to be able to warp a lvl 2 character to a level 80 area that’s fresh out of the training mission besides possibly having a lvl 80 character have them in their party to help them power level?

Anet has said from the start when they first started talking about GW2 they might do expansions (and they did make one) but they would be more inline with Eye of the North and have no plans to do a stand alone game like Factions and Nightfall.

Well, it really depends on how much content there is going to be. The maps can be huge with sparse events, or it can be small packed with lots of events and other things.

It’s really quite hard to measure content, and compare it to other stuff. GW2 took 5+ years i think? With HoT, i think they’ve laid out the hardest part by introducing a new class, skills, masteries, and specs.. all these take months to a year or more to create. With these foundations laid out though, maybe they’ll create more content faster now. They also have the living story too.

Guild Wars 2 has only been out for a little over 2 years now. If you are talking about Guild Wars 1 and the time it took for them to come out with Factions that only took a year and 2 days.

Questions about Pricing and Payment [merged]

That also isn’t accurate either since many people who have exchanged gems for gold would never have used black market gold sellers even if Arenanet did not offer RMT services.

Well, I think it was meant to solve both the issue of people that would have gone through the black market, and people that wanted to buy gold with real money, but couldn’t as they wanted to respect the terms of service.

Sorry if I was unclear.

If people can spend money to buy gems to then buy the expansion (if it was on the gem store) they should have the money to buy it outright and not via the gem store since the gem cost would still equal the normal price.

If people farm for gold to then covert into gems to buy the expansion from the gem store it’s like Anet is giving away the expansion for free and not making a return profit which would be a bad business move.

So players that say this would be a good move since they can’t buy it outright, they need to slowly save their money until they can afford it and stop thinking a luxury item is a necessity.

It should be the same. It’s not like they are going to overhaul the game engine and graphics for this.

The digital deluxe edition is just add-ons to the game not like what Heart of Thorns will be. They took the time and more importantly the MONEY to make this and thus they want to see a return in their investments by making a profit and not just give away a free copy of the game to gold farmers or dare I say poor players.

If you are poor and can’t afford the game outright stop expecting hand outs. Save your money and buy it later and quit thinking its “unfair” you can’t buy it right away like some people can.

Earnings forecasts suggest otherwise.

You can keep saying that all you want but doesn’t mean anything.

Earnings forecasts suggest Guild Wars 3. See I can just say stuff too.

I love how everyone is freaking out since the next content release is named everyone is like “OMG it’s finally an expansion!”.

If anything it’s going to be a mini expansion, good chance free and just be a much larger Living Story update. So don’t hold your breath for new races, new classes, new skills, new weapons and a new large playable map like Factions, Nightfall or even Eye of the North had.

At best this is going to be a mini add on to end LS Season 2. I really wouldn’t get my hopes up for a full blown expansion even the size of Eye of the North.
