ok your specs you mentioned are better then mine and i play off an external drive like you suggest so it is doable. mine runs flawless but im set on lower graphic settings then my decked out desktop on my laptop but its playable and i do a lot of wvw on my laptop

i try to figure out if its a duel or not by asking if it not ill attack but if it a duel ill leave em alone. i find dueling usually has a small group around them watching so i just leave them alone

Remaining Critique for Desert Borderland

There is no strategic value to anything in the desert border lands, other than castles with waypoints.
There is little to no benefit for towers or keeps as bridgeheads for further conquest. There are so many vertical barriers and pathways that towers can easily be bypassed. They don’t serve as a base of operation, since there are no noteworthy treb targets, you could reach from them.

The problem with the desert borderlands is that holding any objectives serves no other purpose than PPT, unless you are planning on holding a keep for long enough, so it can get a waypoint.
This is completely different from the old borderlands, where holding hills, for example, was important in and of itself and getting the waypoints was merely a nice bonus. With hills, you could exert tremendous pressure on the spawn tower and the spawn camp. Someone holding a keep in desert bl? Nice for them… I guess…

i get where your coming from and agree they need to adjust the map to make it more strategic that taking an object brings you closer to taking another object that the old alpine had

i wouldnt mind the dbls changed up a bit for strategy reasons. seems like the objectives are take and not keep the old abls were kind of take one to move to the next stage thing going. the desert bls still got those environmental issues which the abls didnt that i hate and still spots that end up awkward.the dgl are better then they are more open space but still have a few tight spots in them. id like to see the northern towers brought down a bit so they were strategic for taking the side keep possibly moving the side keep closer to the lower towers kind of spring board and maybe move garrison which everyone calls it center keep a but south id like to see two camp on each side of spawn to be jumping points to the first towers which would be moved south a bit. i think those changes would make it more strategic and a big improvement of the dbls just not sure how much that would be

i was complaining but the more i think of it im more upset at my guild for trying to eb instead of bl bl got a short queue early but if we had gone there we might have ended together within 20 30 minutes. i never got to eb on reset night but im thinking it wont be so bad next reset

its funny today i ran with squad and reset night i did the same only problem i had they were a pug squad not as good as my guild squad which runs same type of setups when we can. im not a big zerg guy im was solo or small squad now im squad of 5 or 10 and zerg when im trying to eat while play gotta get nourishment now and then

my only problem on reset night was it queues hit so quick i waited 45 minutes to get into a borderland and the queue for eb never popped for me and i played four hours so i never got to go with my guild who almost all went to eb. as for fun i have a bigger blast the next day on the borderlands lots of action going on and i squaded for a while and ran with the blurb for a while. im on jq i expect nexts week reset to be a bit more sane i think tons came to see the action and might not be back next week

Next time, maybe employ your guild to have some foresight and go defend the home bl on reset night. Or go raid on enemy bl. You may not “love” the map but there is still plenty of action to be had on reset night and your guild would more easily be together.

Back when this game had the population to support it. We played on bls, not in ebg, ebg was a kitten around map and a map to use at night when pop dwindled. We have that population again, so people should try to go back to bl’s again.

Contrary to belief, the BL’s became dead long before the new maps. I liked Alpine better too but it doesn’t change the fact most of the time was spent circle capping supply camps on an empty map for the last year or so before HOT.

my guild tried to coordinate with the rest of jq server they had server meeting to map out who went where but it did no avail everyone queued eb and those guild who were to go there had either go somewhere else with only half going there which hurt me by the time i decid3d to go somewhere else i hit queue on those too and truthfully i wanted to play with my guildmates who were spread out on all and i like the bls now have no problem with them. it wasnt the bl it was i joined with zerg on bl andc never got to play with my guild cause too many queues

im not disagreeing i think earlier would be nicer but they stated reason for the late start had to do with possible patches on friday. people hate on patches during reset night and hates saturday night resets so compromise was later reset friday night

eb got queues most everytime i look now and im not playing in peak hours bls have quieted down a bit and i think they are nice now small squads can play but a roving zerg bounces back and forth on map. its better then before link on bls but the eb queue all day ill have toi try late night hours to see if there is queue there too. its not a big queue usually 2 people so not bad. i kind of think they should have left tier 1 alone maybe tier 2 too and linked tier 3 and lower

i took me an hour to get into the borderlands but that didnt bother me. i was supposed to go into eb with my guild but never got there but im sure the queue will die down. i think they made a mistake by combining all the tier together. they should have left tiers 1 2 and 3 alone and combine the lower tiers. i think that way they would have had less tiers but not be so overcrowded and make the borderlands less blob ish.

barricades gone opens up the dbls a bit stilll needs works here and there but progress reward track like pvp one of the big things i wanted and asked for. provision master line unexpected but im good with it heriocs account wide good. yeah id like to go back to the old upgrade system made maps livelier. havent checked out near keeps yet and changes there yet but so far im happier

i dont think dbl is that bad but it needs minor tweaks. the middle for one there really is no reason to use that unless your doing event there which i is terrible. too many cliffs and choke points a little visibility in parts would help keeps too big they need to be a bit smaller. the monuments arent bad but id rather have the old tuins back instead of the monuments that change and make more choke points

1first redesign the borderlands there are things on the desert that are good but too many choke points and cliffs no more pve in middle of map ever nothing should be there to make taking easier

2 population needs to be adressed on lower servers maybe combine a few in the lower tiers to make a bigger population or something along that line. i dont like the alliance thing that was mentioned in other threads

3 dragon banners and stuff emergency waypoints dont like that at all

4 awards need to be changed more like the pvp reward line not high enough to make it most rewarding but something unique or give us stuff like pvp does. i like the pvp reward lines and think they should be used as examples

5i dont like ppt but i know many do i feel that wvw should be around objectives but im willing to conceed this point for the other 4 things

Anyways, I read an article stating GW2 hit 7 million players at the release of HoT. We’ll guess that 2 million are inactive.

That was total accounts registered, which is a fairly useless number. The professional estimate was 3.1 million active players just after HoT. Judging from what others have said last month based on NCSoft’s earnings report, HoT likely only sold 300-500k copies. Not only was HoT poorly marketed (the focus on minorities, the lack of content, the price, etc), it also came at a bad time (in between other major releases, like FO4), so it’s really not surprising.

The ones who say HoT is easy are the ones who are actually playing with others.

The problem with difficulty is that it can vary greatly depending on what and how you’re playing. A pet bunker build is obviously going to be trivial compared to one of the lower defense professions played in melee. Just having a decoy can make a huge difference. Also keep in mind that some people are going to see everything as group content and just skip through it, rather than facing it. Some enemies can easily kill you within seconds for example, but for the most part, you can just skip them. Even then, without a death penalty, some may still think it’s easy because they can just waypoint.

Personally, I don’t really play alts so I’ve only played through HoT 1.5 times. First as a zerker ele and then as a zerker ranger wearing only rares, half accessories and no runes/sigils/upgrades. Although poorly geared, the ranger was easy, simply because of the pet tanking everything, plus I primarily skipped through everything and focused on the story.

hot got easier every char i went through with funny thing i had the hardest time with my mesmer but it was my first char stopped playing her and switched to my guardian which build was a bit more tankier way easier but i had already adapted. mesmer i finished up after rolling at least one of each profession through and after i knew what i was doing my mesmer was steamrolling through it with a zerker build. i still stand you got to learn what to do and it makes it easier. i went though with one of each profession story and hp runs. the more you learn the easier it gets

The ones who say HoT is easy are the ones who are actually playing with others. HoT is solable to a point, I know as i did all the maps (minus the Meta and Champs) on my Mesmer and Necro alone. And its not easy, takes a long time, but it IS interesting…the first few times you do it.

to the comments ‘Why play an MMO solo’, because solo play is fun too. And there isnt always a group availble, so sometimes you have to resort to playing alone. Does this mean all content needs to be solable? no. But there is a lot of content that needs to be toned down, specifically areas that have 20+ Mobs where it just doesn’t make sense to have that kinda setup.

But I think the main issue with HoT, its not like the Classic core of the game at all. Just about every aspect of HoT is completely different. Its like a whole other type of game.

i play solo and i say its easy. i havent gone with any guild since hot started. i used to belong to a wvw guild and only things i did as a guild was wvw or pvp. so your theory goes out the window tthere

op i like your original post and it echos my thought entirely. i posted in another thread a few weeks ago with a person saying it was too hard and he seemed atr first to want to know why. so i went in how i changed some stuff up on my character cause my main was the same as his his reply was i want to use the same gear and same skillset that i use everywhere else. i tried to explain change it up til you got a sense what the monsters are doing and how to avoid them. he just didn’t want to play any different style or try to learn to play better cause im first to admit when i first tried hot i thought crap thats hard but i changed my style and way to play and now i find it relatively easy. i call it learn to play and i think those who are calling for Nerf don’t want to learn. as for hot it made me a better player more aware of my surroundings the way a game should be

as a big wvw player and i play the pve too id say no reverant not a big enough deal to just play it for wvw and you dont need the elites really they make things nicer but if you only play wvw i think youll be ticked off. i play enough pve to make hot worth it but if you not playing that id say no

what i actually do is change my jump button to another button in options while doing jps i find that helps me more then trying to adapt to how long i hit space bar. it helps but sometimes i forget in the middle of a jp thats when i kick myself

The Elder Dragons serve a purpose, they devour magic so it’s not flooding the world, not having something to regulate magic will have its own dire consequences.

My best guess is that something similar to the Kormir/Abaddon business will happen here, someone (or something) will take the place of the 2 dead dragons. The Egg is one obvious canditate, maybe the Player character will be another, far fetched but I think I reakittene spoiler about it somewhere on reddit, or even the Pale Tree after she recovers.

Also, this part:

Survivors have begun to regroup or gone home to mourn the dead while the heroes of the great invasion into the jungle investigate a strange disturbance to the north.

I wonder if it’s about the raid (north of maguuma) or north as in Shiverpeaks (Jormag). How “north” is that “north” supposed to be?

I hope this time they have multiple plots at the same time, although more confusing, it does create a more interesting storyline when you have lots of different things to deal with, rather than a single thing at a time.

my thought were it was the dragons unwaking is what drove the gods down. i think once we get to the last dragon we find out what the gods really are and bring them back in a way

i got more to do out of the expansion then any of the ls seasons combined. i think your wrong on waiting the year maybe a year for another expansion but they did say there will be some ls too. i think the model they are adapting will get better over time and im hoping for another expansion in a year with periodic content til then.

yes op wvw could use with few more incentives or maybe reward lines like pvp got(actually i think that might some back with better rewards not the ones who only want gold). it doesnt pay gold to wvw but i do it like you more for the fun but people looking for gold arent going to wvw(and i dont eotm cause thats not real wvw in my eyes) cause it not there. but before wvw gets better rewards there are a few things that could use fixing first

im on borlis pass looking for guild that does a decent amount of wvw . i do pve also but i belong to another guild that does that primary. ive been around since beta and have one character of every class that has my elites most of my toon haVe ascended gear might be working on one or two atm. i havent done the raid yet. i play mostly guardian and necro but mesmer is my third favorite char. right now ive been doing mostly solo runs but i prefer 5 to 10 man havoc groups over solo or zerg. i have a commander tag but prefer not to lead but i can when needed. i just left my old wvw guild they havent done any wvw in a month so i figured it was time to find a new one and left them behind

more maps with less levels to them. obviously another dragon or two. fights a whole new set of elites so make the profession more robust. i dont mind the mastery grind as it is but more ways to get mastery points. no more currencies too many as it is double up use for some. i wasnt upset with hot like some. i dont care for water combat unless they fixed what i think is wrong with it now. only seems like about half of water mechanics work and half the classes dont have decent skills for it but this is my opinion on water. im hoping in the future we can return to cantha or elona sometime. i love comparing the old areas(gw1) to the new areas (gw2) so i want areas that are mapped in gw1 for the most part. i go into both game at same time and go back and forth

come back try drytop and silverwaste first they are closed to the new exspansion thaT we get but hot does bring elites. wvw doesnt have the numbers it did but their are supposed to be changes coming up for it. raids are the big thing now. hot content is harder not the easy streamroll pve used to be. i think with the harder material youll be more satisfied if you left because you were steam rolling everything but first id try drytop and silverwastes cause most of the hot content is zerg type of content and has timers and you meta events to complete

i think when i realized what i was doing wrong in hot and stopped dying but im thinking when i get precursor drop i got all the materials to finish any legendary but not the precursor right now im saving to buy the precursor so maybe the day when i got enough to do that

also want to comment when you first try it try to space out your healing skills. i did change up my build somewhat too tweaked to give an extra heal when i needed once i got elites they were better for hot and didnt need as much heal but movement even left to right and keep your eyes on other creatures when moving. it is a learning process for every class. ive taken all nine classes through to get my elites and what you learn on one goes for a lot of the other classes. i am going to say i learned a lot of class mechanics from hot and im a better player now because of it things vanilla gw2 i didnt need to learn from it. it has made me a better wvw and pvp player too

thing i like to do with guardian before i got elites was movement along with rotating the shouts i carried kept me alive but now with a few elites i jump in and trap and watch them drop quick. i love the bow using ranged attacks but when i want to ouput a bit more damage i move to another weapon set. most hot enemies give you a warning when they are going to hit you hard just moving right when you see that warning saves on all classes. hot changed my style of playing instead of standing there(regular gw2) i move often. movement and aoe timings on raptors or annoying monsters means survival. i think since i learned to play better and i still solo stuff including veterans minus a few of them which are hero points. did a duo with an ele the other day and we both knew our stuff we downed everything in our path within a second or two. the ele say how i was playing and used my stuff to their advantage and i used the eles stuff to my advantage

ulgoth the mornir or tabitha covington(and the shaman too so i agree with op suggestion) could have some difficulty added he goes down too quick for my tastes and no to the maw i don’t want starter zone bosses any harder they should stay the same a few minor tweaks maybe but no more harder need to keep started zones user friendly. those three i wish to have an overhaul

beside wvw changes i like the expansion alot of thing done well and a few thing wrong but its the first expansion and i think anet working out how they are going in the future with stuff. i think the masteries are fine and elite skills are good where you got them now. i like the new maps and different tactics needed for them

Given that the “special skins from living world events” were continuously back to back and always temporary, I’d honestly rather have the masteries that, while only obtainable in a small amount of area of the game (that will grow over time as new maps are added), is actually permanent.

But in all honesty, I would not do farming if I prefer – and since I can go after masteries at my own pace, I don’t have to farm them; I would have to farm for the skins, since they’d be temporary as a true “living world” would be.

I prefer their current set up – Season 2 styled living world that fills in gaps of otherwise no-content between expansions. It just needs to be more content in future expansions than what we got in the rushed-feeling HoT.

Am I the only one that actually enjoyed the expansion? I understand that some people may not share the same opinion but attempting to kitten it on forum isn’t going to help anyone, just directly contact Anet if you feel your opinion can help?

no your not the only one first impression was wow im going to have to learn to play better and i did i know the tactics actually other day in td me and other one other were burning down veterans like they were nothing we now knew the tactics and worked together. reminded me of solo play in the rest of tyria. i dont think the expansion was a fail might be more of a success. i dont think its perfect but i think anet still learning with what they want to do and where they are going still next expansion i think will be way better and cant wait for the next elite sets i got elite skill on all nine classes plus 150 hero points extra on three characters. the expansion has caused me to play more that a sign it was good in my book
