You are selfishly blocking a considerably larger group of players from doing one event by asking them choose between your event or theirs. Sure you can probably get back and do enough damage to get the FE rewards but instead of getting 3 exotic chests by doing FE and then Ogre, is to choose between one exotic chest and maybe if they get back in time 2 more if you do Ogre then FE within the 5 minute timer.
Do you even know what you’re talking about here? None of our guild ever loads so slowly that they miss out on FE after doing Ogre beforehand. He melts that quickly. We even have time to get back to the FE chamber and pop a Heroes banner for everyone to grab. If your connection is that slow then getting one extra chest is the least of your concerns.
Just saying. Your wishes seem out of line, because Anet won’t pick any class that is even in the slightest filled by other classes, that would just make this game cheap with a lot of ‘different’ classes that actually do the same thing as others, with a different skin.
I apologize ahead of time but I just couldn’t help myself. Feel free to slap me. >.>
But the part I placed in bold is what ArenaNet has put time and energy into perfecting, no?
I agree with the OP.
However I don’t see it changing…
ArenaNet has created MegaZerg champ train schedule where people only DPS with Skill #1. Its ArenaNet created, ArenaNet supported. Regardless if they say otherwise – it exists because of them.
….what is so detrimental about adding the dmg splash back to stealthed opponents?
My best guess?
A combat mechanic that is imbalanced is being threatened with a considerate amount of balance.
Forget any of the antagonist races/factions. That would be Centaurs (plus, how would they swim?),
I imagine the same way bears and canines swim in GW2 now.
No.
You “WANT” the best stats you don’t “NEED” them to play in over 99% of the games content.
True. But I highly doubt you’ll convince the OP of this. People like that do not accept the differences between needs and wants in this game. By labeling something a “need” when it is not, they make themselves a victim of “the system”. Why? Because then all the grind that they “must” endure isn’t their own fault — but that of ArenaNet.
I never talked in TS before, but i listen to commands and etc. Everyone seems around 20-30 if not older, it seems awkward for me talking since im only 15. Do I need to be worried about anything?
As long as you don’t act like a juvenile on TS there shouldn’t be a problem. Considering you are posting your concerns on these forums, I’d say you are mature enough to handle TS just fine.
Now if the chat you’re in is mature… that’s another matter.
GW2 does not need that level of changes. if Arenanet did a ARR-level fix to this game, it 1) Wouldn’t be GW2 anymore, and 2)You wouldn’t like it, because everything that makes GW2 what it is would be gone, in favor of a highly polished WoW knock-off. and I could have sworn that the lot of you came to GW2 to get away from WoW knock-offs.
Many of us came for the game that was advertised in the Manifesto. GW2 isn’t that game either, now is it?
don’t see what “The Manifesto” has to do with this specific discussion.
but sure. let’s throw out 85% of GW2 and make a WoW clone, ARR style, because it’s not the exact Manifesto down to the smallest word.
I really need to see this “Manifesto” so i can understand why trashing the entire game and starting over from scratch(like FF14 did) is worth discussing on this forum. and why it gets brought up in every single thread on every forum.
and how apparently the current GW2 is so 100% completely different from whatever the Manifesto said it would be. I often wonder if the game is indeed completely 100% different from the Manifesto, or if people are just mad about ascended gear.
I wasn’t commenting on the OP’s idea – which if you must know I feel will never happen. I was replying to your points…
1) That GW2 wouldn’t be GW2 anymore. Well we’ve already been down that road. GW2, today, is not the game that was sold to many of us.
2) That we came here for something other than a WoW knock-off. I came here for, again, what was advertised to me in said Manifesto.
I’ve every right to feel cheated in that regard. Also I never mentioned Ascended gear, tyvfm.
@Grok Krog. It’s great that you do so well on your guardian. However my warrior gets it done in the same amount of time, when I’m trying for time (as many times I’ll farm as I’m doing other things).
I think its safe to say that Guardian, Warrior, Ele, and Ranger are popular options – but each individual should experiment to see which is best/fastest for them.
So when the game first came out gold was in high demand so it was very cheep to buy gems with gold now as time went on gold is a great deal more easy to get or there is just simply a lot more in the system so now gems are worth more.
That right there is the solution. We need to make gold harder to farm, harder to gain. We need more gold sinks.
OK I have a solution , allow males to wear the same clothes as females. Problem solved.
Problem not solved. :/
If it isn’t worth much, why not just do it after Fire Ele when there’s time? That way your train doesn’t disrupt someone else’s train. And a new player’s chance at the Steam Ogre achievement related to Fire Elemental. The new player isn’t likely to know of the timer on it.
If we’re late getting to an FE map and there isn’t time to do it before, we try to do it after if we don’t need to rush elsewhere. Many times we’ll just port away after FE dies though. I understand your concern for new players. I care more about their experience than I do for those toxic trolls or those that idle around FE all the time. However a truly new player wouldn’t be fully aware of the Steam Ogre whether its before or after FE, where its located, and probably would be left behind when the zerg charges towards the Ogre’s chamber. Many people get locked out even if SO is saved for afterwards.
When we warn in map chat we do so several times. We tag up and tell them what we’re doing and when. It is much kinder than leaving downed/dead players or those that just didn’t run fast enough after FE, all behind. Of course that is my opinion.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking, but I just want an official dev answer if possible.
Yeah… I’d put money on that not happening. But good luck.
I’d upgrade them as high as Artificer allows and save them, personally. Gratz on hitting 300 cap though.
You’re closing the discussion to those won’t don’t have the same opinion as you, not sure that’s a really healthy way of using a forum.
+1
for a lack of caring too much, basically, haters gonna hate. it’s nothing special that there’s a group of people who avidly try to hate the game but regardless, keep playing.
Excuse me… are you saying that those of us that aren’t thrilled with GW2 as it is today are nothing but uncaring haters?
But I really do need to make this point clear: the way the last two weeks have been handled from a PR standpoint is inexcusable. I’m not blaming you or anyone in particular b/c I don’t know who makes these sort of decisions in the company. So please get this feedback to whatever Anet/NCSoft big wig needs to hear it.
Ya’ll need a dedicated voice between devs and players. To drop something like the Megaserver and then leave us with zero response to feedback on it for two weeks looks really, really bad on you. “We’re very busy” isn’t an excuse. If you’re too busy and stretched too thin to handle basic PR functions, you hire new staff. Period.
I wish you all the luck with the Chinese release. And that’s the thing, guys; I love this game and I want to see it succeed. That’s why this whole fiasco got me and others so worked up: we care. And it feels like we were used as guinea pigs and then brushed aside. We don’t like feeling ignored, particularly not after you’ve thrown our communities into disarray.
Agree.
Though I still feel as if I’ve been “brushed aside”, and I can tell you that will not fly with me forever.
- Support, while powerful, is not largely effected by stats. You can run full Zerk and still have near equal use of Support and Control functions.
You say that like it’s a bad thing, when it’s an incredibly good thing.
I do not see how a system that is so lopsided it makes any other choice subpar in comparison can be a good thing.
Either this player isn’t aware of the last patch destroying the QD train or is just trolling us.
Perhaps its just me but I don’t like the tone of your thread title that much. “Ugly” is entirely subjective. While I don’t really like most of the skins, I have noticed a great deal of players running around with them. More power to them.
Now creating a thread with ideas for new back skins is another thing and something I would fully support. Its a more positive spin than saying they’re all pretty much “incredibly ugly”.
Just my two cents.
I always thought my kasmeer staff was better than legend. 75% of the ingame population isn’t using it. It has a feather trail which sets it apart from other trails like footprints and that glowy thing.
Less and less people seem to care about the details in weaponry, or armor for that matter, because its now all about being flashier than your peers. “Keeping up with the Joneses” comes into play in Tyria too…
Player A: I have a weapon with special effects!
Player B: Maaaaaan…. I want that!
Player A: /flex
months later
Player B: Hey, look. * flashes new weapon with special effects * I got it!
Player A: That’s nice…. but check this out. * flashes multiple legendaries and their effects on armor/footprints *
Players C-P: * admires the free laser light show *
Player B: ….. Dude, that’s awesome! I’ve so gotta have that now.
Player Q: /facepalm
…. eventually we won’t be able to see “characters” anymore because giant masses of flame, light, darkness, etc etc will be all we’ll be able to see.
I really don’t see this thread fostering constructive discussion at all.
Scar tissue =/= Armor
Guild Wars =/= Guild Wars 2
Azhure, question for you:
Considering how quick Steam Ogre goes down, how would doing Steam Ogre after Fire Elemental throw a wrench into your train?
ANet: Simple solution would be to have the Steam Ogre’s timer reset to doable when the Fire Elemental is killed. The rewards are already labeled as not so great, so it shouldn’t even be a huge issue if someone does it before and after Fire Elemental. That should satisfy both groups without requiring a huge amount of code.
I’ve already answered this question but I’ll answer it again because you’re being respectful about it. (Thank you for that, btw)
Our WBT is not confined to the bosses only found along the world boss schedule that ArenaNet created. You know the one that has a World Boss about every 15 minutes? With some bosses overlapping – like Karka. However there are many world bosses like Foulbear, Dredge, Fire Shaman, Rhend, Eye, Arah, Balthazar, Lyssa, Dwayna, Melandru, and Grenth.
In conjunction with another full guild we scout working IP addresses (looking at you Dredge and you FB!) and then act as anchors for our train, our people. It takes work to balance some events between others. While we’re pulling people into an FE map we already have other people scouting other available events/bosses. There are many times when a Temple priest/chest event is called out and burning quickly. In cases like that we have to act quickly. If we don’t do Ogre beforehand, many times we don’t stay after FE to do it because of the normal rush to run elsewhere. Please remember that we’re 30+ people every night. The process of waypointing and using taxis can eat up a lot of time… sometimes we don’t get everyone in on time.
Some of you can’t imagine what we do and how quickly we move around from map to map. Some of you don’t understand. That’s okay. But its been like this for a long time for us. While our train has mutated a little bit with the introduction of Megaservers and the World Boss Schedule — our guild runs the same WBT that IoJ was known for every night. If any of you ever joined us for IoJ’s WBT – you know how long we’ve been doing this.
exactly. but y not just making the eventmobs and bosses harder instead of?
This is a downscaling issue. The power divide between a level 80 character and a lower level player that is equal to that lower zone has always been noticeable. In many cases it is so extreme that maxed characters can plow through mobs while they’re lower level counterparts can’t even get a hit in before the mobs are destroyed.
Fixing downscaling to a level that makes maxed characters more equal to the zone they’re playing in makes sense. I support it.
However if they simply made the content harder, as you suggest, lower level characters would be punished for it. How? Yes, if they were surrounded by 80s when they’re in these zones, it may mean that they can get their hits in. Maybe not. But what would happen with harder content if those maxed characters weren’t around to help? Its like demanding Plains of Ashford foes to hit like they’re from Fields of Ruin instead just because there are level 80 toons that don’t like the thought of being downscaled appropriately.
@JMadFour
I could take the time out of my day and develop a very long, detailed list for you. But you don’t really want to hear it, do you? Not really? If you were a Guild Wars player that was sold to the idea of GW2 by their Manifesto, you would already know. Whether all of those players agree with me or not – a good many do. They know. They care.
But you don’t. You’re happy with GW2 today, for the most part at least. Liking the game for what it is isn’t a bad thing, JMadFour. Just don’t pretend that there are a LOT of people out there that have no right to expect anything else.
So please excuse me if I’m not going to waste time trying to convince someone that has no interest in actually listening.
Let me correct this for you.
Your doing the Boss train, traveling around.
WP A was a lie so WP B, also contested, is a lie and you end up at WP C.
There is no way you can get back to WP A where the event is before the Boss melts away to the Zerg. You lost the cost of traveling.
You lost the reward from the event.
Did you die trying to get there? (Megedestroyer comes to mind)
Travel cost again to repair.
Did it make you late again? Lost reward.Apply the concept to what players actually do and this thread wont seem so funny.
If you are not able to get to the event after the patch, then you also would not be able to get to the event before the patch.
So no, you didn’t correct me, you further showed that you don’t understand what is happening pre versus post patch.
Before the patch, WP A & B were ALWAYS shown as contested meaning you ALWAYS had to go to WP C and then either run or pay an extra WP fee to get to WP A.
After the patch, WP A & B will NEVER show as contested, meaning you will go to WP A, B, or C depending on the contested status of the WPs at the time you decide to use them.
In absolutely no case will the new system be worse than the pre patch system, it can only be better (A. or B.) or the same (C.).
Too right. But there are drama queens that are blowing this up into something it isn’t.
+1
Would be nice if they created a split system — Where there are parties like we see now and then there are parties with a designated party leader, in which all members that join the latter party are given a warning that they have no voting rights within that group.
Perhaps that would solve many of these issues?
It’s more like a small group of customers going to the restaurant’s Facebook page and demanding that the waitstaff post recipes, share the planned menu changes for the next year, and make changes such as serving an entirely different kind of food (a classic Italian restaurant offering hot dogs and cheeseburgers, for example), then loudly and constantly complaining when they don’t get their way.
Not really.
Customers are having their service, as it has existed for a period measured in years, negatively affected and/or interrupted. Asking for the service to continue to be delivered in a manner consistent with its past delivery is not even close to your analogy. Even if there are people who fit your analogy the simple fact is that people who are merely asking for a continuation of service are not having their concerns addressed.
There’s a difference between constructive criticism and noise.
Unfortunately ANet does not seem to agree with you as they are treating both types of response in exactly the same manner.
I completely agree here.
If I treated my clients the way ArenaNet is treating its own, I’d be out of business.
Considering that it takes 30-40 seconds to kill the ogre after FE, the “we have other stuff to do” reason doesn’t make sense. I fully understand your reasons and I think you’re in the right, but if the price to pay for not being raged at is 30 seconds then you might want to consider it.
You’d be surprised how much difference 30 seconds can make in my guild’s nightly WBT. There are times when we barely get everyone in on some events, even when we try our best to time things properly. You’re welcome to come along and see what we do, if you like, then perhaps you’ll understand how busy we can be.
@ Azure Fang, Crimson, and everyone else with a clear head on their shoulders: Thank you. Because of you guys/girls — I will continue to warn in map chat so that everyone available can join in if they choose to, regardless of the toxic backlash I may receive for doing so. Happy looting.
This is a horrible idea.
I would support more recipes that require Obsidian Shards before I would support the OP’s suggestion. Please keep in mind that not everyone is rolling in a surplus of Obsidian Shards, I would say that not even the majority is in such a situation. The only people I can see this happening to are the heavy K-trainers and the dedicated Silverwaste farmers.
Wait you mean ArenaNet did another kitten job on charr characters again?
I’m like…. totally shocked. >_>
+1
I’m tired of the cheap, fat weapon skins.
No longer can I look at the majority of the greatsword weapon skins in particular without thinking they’re anything but giant paddles – instead of swords as they should be.
You, Adry, I now know as someone that finds enjoyment from getting up on a soap box and crying out to the world. You create repeated threads over the same topic whenever your threads die – just so you can remain in the spotlight. Or you create threads like this one that have no standing other than to kitten for the sake of kittening.
You don’t like sPvP? Fine. Don’t do it. Raging at those that do is childish.
Now if you wanted to create a thread that was full of constructive ways of improving sPvP, that would be different, but you’re not doing that here.
All I see is a tantrum thread – one that I’m sad to admit I’ve given enough of my time to.
Good day.
Can you imagine what glow dyes would eventually lead to?
Rave parties with Kralkatorrik and the Branded?
Yeah. Pretty much. xD
Charr.
What Ashen said.
We Charr don’t tolerate World Bosses on our front lawn.
However you can find Rhend, Foulbear, Shatterer, and Fire Shaman farther out….. That’s not so bad and I don’t think you can say the other racial territories have that many.

Continued negativity even after Gaile’s last few statements is depressing to me. Meh.
Gaile, try not to take any of …. this… home with you.
Though I guess next we’ll see World Boss Spawners in the Gem Shop, amirite? :P
I would lose all hope for ArenaNet and this game.
Whenever I get a ‘broken lockpick’ or ‘shattered lockpick’, it feels like a punch to the gut.
I’m more tired of the skip-glitch-stack meta rather than the zerker meta. Doesn’t matter what gear everyone runs, they all skip past all the trash mobs and seek out bosses only. If anet doesn’t fix the zerk meta they can fix this meta.
- Make trash mobs keep aggro unless the dungeon mechanic specifically requires you to skip them
- Increase their loot drop rate to make them valuable to kill rather than skip.
- Add mechanics to bosses which penalize stacking (like a small powerful quick firing PBAOE that instagibs if it hits more than 3 people)
I’m in agreement with you there. Dungeon runs are so cheesy the way they are now.
But I also think the Zerk Meta needs to be addressed. I’m not saying it should be destroyed — Zerk will always have a place. Unfortunately, no matter how much you all yell and scream that we can play “how we want”, it is really hard to do some times with the current “Go Zerk or GTFO” mentality. But with damage being the only thing rewarded and most encounters being so bloody easy that even those players that are multi-tasking other things outside of the game can get by without blinking — I don’t see it changing. Its a sad thing.
1. Make your own groups trumps “go zerk or gtfo.” So your point is countered.
2. Support is more powerful than DPS. so your other point is countered.
Thanks for offering an opinion though.
Thank you for being so delightfully asinine. I’m sure it was warranted, right?
You can “counter” what I say all you like but it makes my opinions no less valid for it. The Zerker Meta isn’t a perfect system. Yes, there will always be a meta and berserker is just the one that fits in the game at present. But why does the idea of opening discussion on improvements in that system be such a horrible thing? Why do you and so many others react so vehemently to the very thought? There could possibly be a solution out there that doesn’t send those of you that have put time and effort into ascended zerk gear into a panicked frenzy. It is POSSIBLE. Probable? No. But still possible.
+1 Realist. Well done.
Huh…
I actually like the idea of a function that automatically Blocks people if you report them as Gold Sellers/Spammers. I mean… its not like anyone that reports a gold seller wants to keep hearing from them, right?
+1 OP
Yeah, I have to admit, I can’t comprehend the “No it’s not in the game because its not in the game” argument. It seems so obviously flawed. I guess some people are just too basic to waste time with.
The strongest arguments against Mounts are:
- Outside of the Wurms in Nightfall, there is no history of mounts in the Guild Wars universe.
- With the current waypoint system and relatively small size of maps, there is no present need for mounts.
- Mounts w/buffs will likely create even further balance issues.
- Mounts w/o buffs, meaning cosmetic only, may create lag issues and flood player’s vision with even more than we already have to deal with.
These are all valid reasons against Mounts. Does that mean they will never be implemented? No. However those that want mounts MUST justify them against these reasons. If you can not – then you likely have little hope of getting ArenaNet to add them. I could very well be wrong in that because ArenaNet could just see it as another way to make money. * shrugs *
But if you only wish to downsize or insult the Anti-mount people’s reasoning, I’m afraid you’re not doing yourselves or your side of the debate any good.
You can do better.
Why do I have to do it again?
Notice to all players, especially the AP farmers:
You do NOT have to do this. Period.
That’s basically just a cop out excuse, kinda like playing GW2 itself is ‘optional’.
It really isn’t.
Sorry but I’m not a believer in “the end justifies the means”.
Ah… so the value behind the Dungeon Master title isn’t that you’ve done all the dungeons and their respective paths their own way – No, instead its meant to be a flag to everyone that you’re a Pro-speed Dungeon raider?
Pardon me…. but….
kitten that.
Good day.
You’ve never seen Holy Grail? It’s been made into a musical for crying out loud. Sure that seen isn’t in it but it’s THE classic, most quotable Monty Python movie ever.
“It’s only a model” “They call me Tim” “African or European?” “I’m not dead yet” “Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three” “Huge … tracts of land” “She turned me into a newt” “They ate Robin’s minstrels”
Where have you been man?
Makes me feel old that there are people that don’t know Monty Python. Not a feeling I’m used to… yet.
Lo and behold, the forum goers have done it again…
Fighting for hours, days, even weeks on end.
