GW2 on consoles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

I understand the appeal…. but no thanks. As players wouldn’t be able to play across the two platforms, and would instead be separated into two large groups with no contact, I’m totally against any potential split on this level.

my point wasn’t to make gw2 exclusive for consoles.
That would make no sense since i said in the post that it would be nice for them to make it free for users that already own the game, just giving them a different platform to play on instead of pc, not dividing its community.

I did mention i want to play again with my guildmates again, what you said just sounds as if you didn’t read what I said.

Just because I don’t support your idea doesn’t mean I didn’t read what you posted.
You don’t seem to understand they would never allow it to be cross platform like you envision. Having PC gamers, who play using a keyboard and mouse, share the same servers with console gamers is just…. not going to happen. Perhaps it would not be an issue if this game were strictly PvE, but its not. Players in one platform can not be given any special advantage or disadvantage over another player in WvW/PvP just because they’re platform has a better/easier control system.

You have to know that one would be better than the other.

Grind is still grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

Anet did NOT say “the game has NO grind at all” they know there is ( they made the game. lol) however, they said you don’t have to do it.

I did not read the whole thing but here are my thoughts on this topic in general:
the reason they took WvW map completion from the 100% world completion is because many servers are stuck vs way stronger servers, and never get a chance to do the WvW map completion, so that’s not something they are changing about the ‘Grind’ in the game rather its a fix for a problem.

take away the grind and make the game grind free!, everyone get dungeon master because they played the dungeon once and just for playing the game for 100 hours lets give you a legendary(that a grind for hours though) and lets not reward players who played the game days in and days out and invested many hours of game play and make em just like everyone who played the game for 3 days and quit, no more special skins for fractal grinders who played them for 100’s of hours to get that lame underwater skin that no one ever see and make it once you play an underwater fractal you automatically get the skin, and once you finish all fractals you get the fractal tonic that only a hand full of players have ATM, and once you kill a player in WvW you get the “ultimate dominator” title and kill a player in PvP and get dragon rank and finisher, I think you know where im going with this.
if you don’t want a ‘grind’ in a game maybe you should be playing a single player game not an MMORPG

I agree here. So many players are quick to complain about “grind”, its many interpretations, yet very few are taking a moment to think about what a game with no grind at all would be like. We would play it for a few days and then walk away from it. There would be nothing keeping us there.

Thankfully the grind in this game is entirely optional — whether people accept that or not.

Steam Ogre

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

To recap, the reason people were mad isn’t because they missed out on a minor Champ Bag. The main problem here is that trolls ruined the pattern of the run. Because of this, I haven’t touched the Steam Ogre in a while. I heard it was bugged, so I stopped going to FE. But now that I know why it was “bugged”, I’m upset, purely in principle.

But trolls are everywhere. In WvW claiming Keeps with 0 buffs in a small guild. Undercutting my prices on the TP. And purposely ruining PvE trains. I’ve learned to live with it, but that doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to be upset at some people don’t understand the logic of how a train operates.

Constantly referring to Azhure as a troll, you apportion malice to their purpose of doing Ogre. By their very opening post, they have said they announce their intent in map to do the event. They’ve gone to the trouble of preparing a key and announcing it. How can any malice be attributed to them and their guild?

What you seem to miss is that the train is not convenient for all players. Azhure and their guild have their own “train”. Should an entire guild be inconvenienced simply because their train schedule is different? Is their train any less logical?

The malice is from the fact that he says he doesn’t care that everyone else wants to do the Steam Ogre after the FE. Purposely doing it to make others mad is bad form. If he did it, apologized to everyone, and promised not to ruin the train again, then I would be more forgiving.

I don’t recall stating that I “don’t care” or that I’m doing this to intentionally “make others mad”. Where do you get off saying so?

EDIT: I do care. If I didn’t then I wouldn’t be bothered by the heat I take for opening Ogre beforehand and if I didn’t care… then I wouldn’t bother announcing in map chat that we’re opening Ogre in advance.

The danger is that new players coming into the game will end up with a shallow understanding of the game and thus share your opinion.

Without the crutch of a champ train leveling experience most players find out there is a lot more than just pressing 1 to the game. If that’s all they see then it’s possible, like you, to think that’s all there is.

We should fear for the future of this game if that is acceptable to anyone.

Why not compromise?

With the way it is currently designed there is no way to truly compromise. ArenaNet could potentially redesign the encounter to help ease the conflict. However there are so many map shards that are created during the FE timer that its not like everyone is affected by our actions every single night. Further still we don’t always do it beforehand, as I’ve said multiple times already, there are times that we don’t have enough time to do it beforehand so we try to do it afterwards (if we stay after FE).

When we do open it beforehand:

  • We warn multiple times.
  • We give players plenty of time to travel.
  • We provide the key.

All of that benefits those present.
I will never apologize for not being able to please everyone, for not waiting on last minute map arrivals, for not following the majority. Nor will I EVER allow toxic individuals to change my gaming experience.

After skimming the thread, I’ve come to the conclusion that if I decide to open steam ogre’s room exactly 20-21 minutes before fire elemental, thus depriving azhure’s guild an ogre spawn in favor of generating one in time for the world train to arrive, I’m fully within my rights, I’m not trolling, and azhure can suck it up. Sound about right? Anyone see something wrong with that?

Yes. That is entirely within your rights. However I would question your intent, if it were only to try and spite me. Also know that it is incredibly easy for me and mine to reroll a new FE map that has an Ogre chamber not on cooldown.

Charged Quartz Crystal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

To answer your first question: No, not really. Though I think I remember one of the recent LS rewards being 3 Charged Quartz Crystals or something like it.

Just charge one each day for a month and you’ll be ready to make a full set of armor. If porting to a place of power daily is of issue — some people just leave an alt on one and farm it daily.

A month is not a horrible amount of time. Yes, that is my personal belief. I understand that. Another belief of mine? I’m perfectly fine that the game has items in it that aren’t available for instant gratification.

Either way — Good luck.

Levels 1-60 are boring.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

Best guess about 16 to 18 hours of play with breaks.

A full work week is 38 hours for most people… then comes family/work at home and finally you have that little bit of time for yourself, unless you’re too tired at the evening to bother logging in. Happily I do not have a full time job + a family to take care of. I study at university and I still have busy weeks where I log in maybe 3 hours in a whole week.

So yeah I totally understand people who say leveling is too slow, because for them (and occasionally for me too) you don’t want to spend that 1 hour of pleasure doing something you dislike: i.e. leveling. Instead you want to get the fullest enjoyment out of your time, and then you get a hate toward leveling.

Oh yeah, not to mention: those 18 hours you speak of would take the aforementioned people close to 2 full months.

Then I would suggest not creating alts for those that are PvE oriented and to stay in HotM for those that are PvP oriented. Wanting something and expecting to get it just because you want it, and not because you worked at it, is illogical.

An End to the Queensdale Train

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

I disagree with the perceived need to eliminate the trains. In fact I would like to see trains in every map. Queensdale is popular because it feels alive. The train is part of the reason for that. Instead of trying to make yet another dead zone, Anet should look at why Queensdale IS alive.

Firstly the issue here is not “all trains”, its the QD train. Please don’t lump them all together like they’re the same and use it like a shield to protect your argument. Secondly, and I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but none of the starter maps feel anything less than “alive” thanks to the megaserver system. I’m a regular map completer between all my alts and I can tell you that the other starter zones are enjoyable, mostly, because there are other players on them AND there is no QD train going on. Last I’d say our definitions for “alive” seem to be very different. I equate what you’re talking about to something more along the lines of the undead. Its moving, sure, buts its not alive.

Some of us work long hours. Its hard for us to get involved in any kind of guild or dungeon running. What we want to do is spend that hour or two having fun. We dont want a grind. We dont want to plug in to a second job. The train IS fun. Odd as it may seem one of my favorite parts of it is the pause waiting for boar. All kinds of silliness goes on there.

…. You “don’t want a grind”? … I have no words.

A question about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

A lot of people in this thread seem to be (willingly) missing the point. Or perhaps I am. TC isn’t complaining that the game has been made more difficult, he’s complaining that earning gold – and by extension, the ability to purchase items – has been made more difficult.

It’s not like these changes have been made so that the skilled among us must accomplish X, Y, and Z to earn the cool new armor just added to the game, because new armor and weapons are rarely added to the game as rewards. Instead they’re slapped in the gem shop to be obtained with cash or gold. And changes have been made to make it harder to earn gold. Ergo it’s harder to get new items without the game actually being more difficult.

This thread isn’t about the game difficulty, it’s about “wallet fishing”.

Its becoming increasingly difficult to buy items because of constant inflation. With gold flooding the market, the value of that gold lowers, making items more expensive over time. It is not the gem store that has done this. Its over farming. How is ArenaNet supposed to solve this problem?

Nerf farming/loot or increase farming options/loot gain? Which do you really think is better. If we were to go with the latter option, or even stay current with the same model we have been running with for the last year, just imagine how much items would cost in another 2 years. DUSK may end up costing more than Twilight is today, t6 mats will be 1g+ each, etc etc. It would be an ever increasing nightmare.

The reason some feel pressured into buying gems and converting into gold is also our fault, not ArenaNet’s. We’re so used to getting 10g/h, 15g/h, and so on and so on – We’ve gotten carried away. Now that its slowing down, people are panicking. Let deflation happen.

Inflation is a kitten. Look what its done to us.

Waypoint costs are about 2s-5s for a level 80 character, correct? Port to any zone and do what you came to do. Azhure.1857

I’m not sure how much of a tutorial the game needs, but good game development states that a useful tutorial is vital to the intro-game experience. I certainly wouldn’t turn down a better training area. …That’s actually an idea. Those areas that have training dummies and such? Why not have NPCs performing various attacks on a few (whirl, leap, element fields, etc), and give players a chance to time them and see what their effects are? That way, it’s there, it’s in the game properly, and you don’t need a friend or guildie nearby to learn them.

My question is how many people would choose to practice in a better training area, even if it were provided for them? Without a need for all game mechanics, in ALL areas of GW2, there is no pressing need for everyone to learn. Its a sad situation and I don’t see people changing. My apologies for not being optimistic. There are too many things that melt before a zerg spamming 1, just too many.
