Chrono rune on Necro is a bit bugged..
Traited-well is not giving quickness! I wanted to try out a quick-resser necro!
And the Heal skill gives it at the start of the cast time not the end so you can cancel the cast and still get a bit of Quickness xD

Getting to level 14

I know most of those words. Sadly for me they hold no meaning in this configuration.

Go into Edge of the Mists. Find a big group of people to follow. Do what they’re doing until you hit level 14.

Edge of the Mist:

  1. click on the WvW button
  2. look towards the right side
  3. don’t join the dark side!
  4. press EotM
  5. follow the local tag, if far away, wait until he ports closer
  6. press 1 then repeat it until the enemy is down
  7. repeat step 4-6 until you’re rank 14

(Optional: Use birthday booster for faster farm.)

I Did Not Quit WvW

So far that’s 2 people on the thread that say they’ve been on the map when it’s been queued or closer to full. Of everyone complaining, that’s 2.

I don’t think everyone would ignore WvW if they took out EBG, by the way. And I didn’t say take it out forever, just take it out for a week to see. There’s really no harm in trying these things. People didn’t quit for golem week any quicker than they’re quitting for the current state of WvW.

First you say that we don’t have the right to complain ‘cos we did not even tried it.
When we complain after we tried it, you say if it’s just a few ppl complaining, the map is fine?

It is not. It’s a quaggan pve-map forced to be a wvw-pve-mix. It’s not fun for wvw.
And fun > everything else.

I repeat.

IT.
IS.
NOT.
FUN.

Not even with Qs on the map.

Okay, true, it’s more fun than watching esportz gw2 spvp, but that still doesn’t make it so enjoyable as the old BLs.

You can try to force ppl into it. Ppl will play it. Will they have so much fun that they never want to go back to EB? I doubt it. The map is flawed, and you can’t change that with more ppl there.

Go back and look at my edit… Players are enjoying/gaining/reaping/ the benefits of MEGASERVER TECHNOLOGY.

It has nothing to do with their level of personal enjoyment…

There is a difference….

When players are going for events and there are lots of people there to complete it… They are enjoying/reaping/gaining the benefits of MEGASERVER TECHNOLOGY in action….

And I’m not?
All I get is difficulty to reach my fellow servermates in pve while not gaining any advantage to my pve gameplay? If I wanted to do a HYPERBIGPVE-metaevent, I could guest to a server which did it organized, with TS, commanders, etc, while if I wanted to have fun with my servermates I could do that easily. Now I’m surrounded with random ppl in pve, thanks to the MEGASERVER TECHNOLOGY!

And if playing a game “has nothing to do with their level of personal enjoyment…” then I believe there is something really wrong with it.. I mean.. a game not played for enjoyment?

I think Fay’s point was that Thieves have almost no skills with a noticeable activation time. So it’s hard to even proc Powr Block on them in the first place, unless you get lucky, and even then you won’t get the recharge increase effect anyway.

With SA DP Thieves, the usual poo+leap is a nice thing to rupt, can screw them really hard

And as I said it in a few post before, I don’t get benefits from megaserver?
My summed “benefits” are negative, so even if it gives me some, it takes away way more, making it hard to call “benefit”.

Massive Lags and disconnects WvW

SFR-Deso-Kodasch MU, 15 sec laggs (you know, the one you see before DC, everyone running and no skills responding) and random DCs even at 5v5 fights (hell, I almost couldn’t repair the gate ’cos it was not responding..), can Anet roll back their servers to the state they were before reset?

F2P players can join your normal guild, I couldn’t find any filter for them.. but maybe it’s just not in yet.
F2P players can join your normal wvw maps after one of their chars is lvl 60.
Not only F2P players will have no HoT builds, those who are not buying HoT but have normal account are the same. The builds for core and HoT guys can be the same (honestly don’t see f.e. Reaper as the must-have for necros in wvw), as only the elite spec. (weapon-skills-traits) are not there to use for them.

Lagging in a 2v2 fight in wvw, rubberbanding, etc.
Switching to spvp, no lagg, no rubberbanding, skills/weapon change are working..
Yup, my ISP/PC can’t handle the 2v2 in wvw but has no problem with 5v5 in spvp

Thanks Bubi. I wanted to post a similar picture.

As you can see the wall blocks all trajectories below 85°. Therefore only target on the wall or very close behind the wall are attackable. All targets far behind the wall are safe.

The thing is, I’m not sure if this is how it actually works in the game (you may have meant to say that, I wasn’t sure).

We were discussing a theory about the real world, where Arrows have trajectory, mostly reacting to this

Gravity and physics. Math works!

So yes, we wanna nerf ACs a bit, either having ~real trajectory or disabling the new changes while on siege.

As far as Anet is concerned, the only question is how to monetize WvW over the reasonably expected lifetime of the game. They don’t make money for people just playing WvW unless they are buying gems (with real $$) or attracting new players to the game who might pay for gems or buy HoT, etc.

Personally, I think they should try to get more people interested in WvW by combining WvW rewards with PvE rewards to get the best gear. Or let people get unique gear from WvW that is superior to PvE gear in WvW.

And then they disable toys ‘cos 1 freakin’ toy can be exploited. So let’s just trash all of them, who needs them in wvw anyway~

Dear Arenanet, It’s just like this.

There is no hype for upcoming tournament at all.
Maximum 30% of wvw population is hyped for it.

And those who wanted to try AA(Artichoke Age) on start will get that chance and you will loose them to AA, just because nothing fresh they will meet in gw2.

Your game is beautiful.
Combat mechanics are awesome.

I don’t care much because AA looks ugly for me (but i will try it though) but those nerds need more hype at certain points.

If you don’t have some big surprise to balance, guilds, wvw, pvp or anything else you will loose a lot of population.

Nope. Just an illusion of movement while the ship was stationary the whole time. The engine just doesn’t support it. Sure you can see other airships moving, but those are not solid, they’re just props with no platforms to stand on.

Actually VoD’s best part is the fact the ship’s not moving.. I mean did you ever summon a banner/use Ice storm on the ship?
IT WILL MOVE BACKWARD!
FLYING/RUNNING BANNERS!
Last time we did it, we had so much fun on TS while trying to outrun the flying banner.. Ohh, Zhaitan is over there? Quaggan it, the banner’s moving!
And jumping down trying to wp back before dieing is a nice #esportz mode, who can wp back later while still alive!

Btw to say something about Airships..
The more “pvp” (not pivido, not npcs, not automated turrets, not sieges) wvw has the happier I’m, so anything that comes with more siege/automated turrets gets a big NO vote from me

Afaik yes, you have to do a HoT pve content to get a GH.. You can invite your wvw buddies to help your scout-guild get one, but I fear the “crafting” of guild-upgrades will need pve-thingies..

They aren’t build to last even if you can cast them on yourself. Why? ‘Cos we’re shattering left and right in spvp while we’re bringing only dps phantasms in pve (maybe shield could be an alternative, but that’s still only theorycraft). In zergs they would die in 2 seconds anyway (not 1 ’cos you have traited invul on them!).

Sometimes when I’m scouting, I would be happy to do… anything literally, but sometimes I have too many things to do (building sieges, repairing walls/gates, upgrading/retaking nearby camps..).

It’s sad, but when you don’t have anything to do, even pve-things are starting to seem interesting.. Like “Let’s just kill Harpy while I’m on my way back to Hills”.. So even thou I don’t wanna fight npcs in wvw, if your keep was not contested the last X (bigrandomnumber) minutes, dunno if it would a good change or not.

Or just give us back Quaggans! Let’s Kill All The Kraits and Punish the Enemy with our Quaggans!

(If you make an event every ~30 min, which gives ya rewards if you can refresh a siege under 30 min timer… Imagine the race for the last AC/treb from all the leechers xD )

Question: I didn’t get a chance to play yesterday. What exactly did they do with the “bug fix” mentioned in the Dec 1 post, about being able to teleport for a few seconds between Repel Attackers events?
Isn’t this how we’ve been defending for 3 years now? Or was there an actual bug.

Is timer still meaningful? Can we still spam WP?

If anyone who played after the patch can explain this, it would be much appreciated.

When it’s working as Anet intended, you can only WP when no enemies attacking, i.e. no WP with timer during defending, our old WP-PORT NAOW is gone…
IF you ignore the glorious Emergency Waypoint .
Basically if an npc gets in combat (like attacking another npc), the keep will be contested and the WP unusable, making it impossible to use on a regular basis…………

Low-cost Band-Aids for WvW

We all know that the “WvW Team” don’t have enough resources for big and fast changes.
Let’s think about cost-efficient TEMPORARY solutions then!

0.) Let’s pretend we don’t have the Old BLs, they clearly don’t want to give them back to us “soon”.

0.5.) Reset:

  • Move the WvW Reset back to the old Friday time.

I am willing to be kicked out from WvW if they really update something during EU reset, it’s still better than the Saturday Reset. Saturday Reset makes Friday evening/Saturday meaningless for the PPT, the MUs are almost always decided for the last 2 days, it’s this way for years and I really doubt it will change.
(Personally I have zero motivation to cap a keep on Saturday morning as it’ll be reset soon, no point building defensive siege or scouting it, as prime time will be after the reset. )

1.) Map Control for Upgrading Keeps and Towers:

  • Turn off the upgrade-timer
  • Incoming Dolly still subtracts X minutes from it
  • (Optional fluff) Change the Timer and Minutes to Dollies x/y (i.e. 3/10 Until Next Upgrade), balance the amounts

This way you have to “Control” your map, you have to secure camps and escort dollies to upgrade your keeps/towers, giving at least something to do for roamers as they can finally stop an enemy objective from upgrading.
More Roamers -> More Defenders -> More action on the map.

2.) Player Interaction for Upgrading:

  • Give the Quartermaster back it’s previous role, you have to speak with him to start next Tier Upgrade.

This way you need players actively running to every Objective to start next Tier Upgrades. Dollies still giving Supply when no Upgrades running, but they will not count for next Upgrade.

3.) Oasis Event:

  • Disable it until you can fix every problem with it.
  • (Optional) Think about how it favors the bigger server and think about why did you place it in WvW. If you think it’s not working for that, don’t put it back.
  1. Rubberbanding: Right now it makes the whole map rubberbanding, even while solo-roaming, fighting for the event is basically impossible as you and your enemy will rubberband everywhere. No rubberbanding after the Event/Laser is over.
  2. Laser: It still damages walls in some Objectives (like SW Tower) and last time I checked you could Body Block the damage, so if you had a big blob next to the gate, it took less damage.

4.) Rethinking of the Barricades:

All it does is giving problems for Roamers while not blocking the blobs in any way.
A “full map blob” can destroy it in ~10 seconds while a Roamer has to spend minutes on it, even more if it’s a condi-build (I personally don’t have a problem with the increased time for condi-builds, but it’s still not healthy).

One not-so-low-cost idea:

  • Change it to “normal Wall”, only siege can destroy it. Less HP than Wall, not upgrading with Objective.
  • Make a “Burrow” under it, with a Global Usage-CD of X second (Similar to the EotM Wurm-teleport-thingy just with a CD, after a player crossed it others have to wait X seconds).
  • (Optional) It places you in Combat for Y seconds/minutes.

This way a solo-roamer can cross it without a problem, small groups can cross it fast, bigger groups have to think about what to do:
Destroy it, spending supply?
Go the other way, taking more time to get there, scouts have increased chance to spot you?
Wait until everyone can go through the “Burrow”, wasting even more time than going around?

That’s from me, but what kind of low-cost temporary fixes can You imagine?

What aspect of the reward system are you complaining about exactly?

Siege system. (trolls, balance of sieges)

Screen shot and report them……………I hate siege trolls myself, but I haven’t seen a single intelligent idea to address the issue other then screen shot and reporting them.

The only thing that makes it enjoyable for me is the Combat system, which is the same for PvE/sPvP.

No, your wrong. The siege equipment and mass PvP makes it very fun, neither of which do you truely have in either PvP or PvE.

(Thou I would like a no-AoE-cap system, I can understand that their servers cant handle it. )

It has nothing to do with the servers. It would really be better if you wouldn’t speak upon matters you have know knowledge of. The caps were set at player demands via forums out cry.

I have yet to see a single logical argument that can show WvW as broken in any way. It may have flaws, and be imperfect, but it is not broken by any means.

Reward System: “Kill 1,000,000 enemy supply caravans.” or “Successfully escort 500,000 supply caravans.” is not Broken for you? (I believe when others did the math, they calculated something like 5-7 years for it.)
And I believe that if you have to play another game-mode only to be able to play your favorite, it’s broken. (Without playing pve/spvp, you’ll lose money over the time as in wvw you spend more money than your income. )

Siege system: Don’t you think that killing a door without siege is Broken? Do you think that if its easier to kill ppl on walls than the other way then it’s not Broken? (And we, as a server reported the trolls for months, maybe half a year, nothing happened.. Sorry, I can’t trust Anet’s support for wvw. Now that dev’s had experienced the trolls in wvw [adopt-a-dev], they have a thread about how to fix the problem.)

Combat System: As I said, I enjoy it very much, but besides the fact that you’re supposed to fight against players and not AI’s (which is not really true when pvd-ing), a bigger raid in pve has the same mechanics. You can buff up, you can drop the bomb, you can dodge/avoid/negate the npc’s “bomb”, you can blast Water, drop Banner.. And no, fighting under AC fire is not fun for me. Maybe it’s an understandable situation when defending your objective with LESS ppl, but otherwise it’s not fun for me.

No AoE Cap: Maybe it would be better, maybe worse, but we can decide only if we can try it without lags/culling, which I believe we never had the chance to try. And btw I said that “I would like”, there are ppl who wanna stronger AC/Golems, ‘cos they’re underpowered! :P

Anet just don’t care, the forum has a lot great ideas to fix/make better wvw, “all” we got in this “big Feature Patch” was 3 hexa-number change to the tag [which got Datamined like 3-4 months ago] and some little QoL change we asked for since beta weekends.

Anet, do you think that if we have 2 enemies (or more) in meele range, we need the same amount of Life Force as in 1v1 situations?
Don’t you think that we need (at least) 2x more because they’ll do more dmg to us?

As I understood the patch, the life-force gain will only occur once per skill use, so basically all we got for dagger is more dmg against more enemies in meele-range.
I believe we need to get life-force not per skill use but per enemies hit.

Or i misunderstood the "As it is with Thief, the positive effect from these abilities can only occur once per swing. " sentence?

Stability changes - general

Guard is great, but it is there for support, NOT for spike. Guard also got lousy mobility, so 2x lousy mobility classes aint great in general. Sure swiftness spam is prevalent, but you often need burst movement, which both necro and guard is bad at. So is staff ele, but they got the range to deal with sudden blitz pushes.

GS Guard has no Spike dmg?

Pls say how GS Guard has the same mobility as a Necro.. I wanna leap so far away with my necro. And then we don’t even take JI as a possible gapcloser..
Staff ele 1.2k range, Staff Necro 1.2k range most of the time, 900 for wells.. Not really new, we played this way for years, now it’s easier to avoid the meeletrain with Necro as they have less stability..
And ele btw has “Blink” to “deal with sudden blitz pushes”.

Yet i stick to the frontline with my trusty GS and i do not die. My profession is supposed to suck at frontline, yet i run a roaming build in T1 EU and still survive just fine.
However my profession got limitation on its own, it doesnt support allies very well, it doesnt do massive AOE damage.
It does however, cover its own rear end VERY well, and in the cases of being overwhelmed, it can run away VERY fast.

Selfish classes are not good.. If you’re not doing dmg, why are you there? What are you doing there? How are you helping your team to win? Ranger will rely on others for condi cleanse, don’t ya think? Or how’ll you escape from immob+cripple+chill bomb?

Necromancer does not cover its own rear end very well, nor does it run fast. It relies on shout warriors and guards to deal with the majority of issues, even more so if out of LF.

No change, it was this way for years and necro is still one of the GWEN. So maybe it was not a big problem for good players?

1.: The “Official” dueling area is in Obsidian Sanctum, there’s a loooo~ng tunnel at the beginning which ends in an arena-thingy.
On borders south to the south-camp, behind the Windmill is the spot where most “agreed” duels/fights are, as it’s far away from the other players, less chance to get interrupted by them.

2. If you just want to find someone to fight, you can try to “poke” a spawn-camp ( south-west and south-east camps) and see if there’s someone coming for defense, you can try to wander between the south-camp and the southest-ruin, near the Sentry, or maybe between Bay and Garri.

3. I don’t really know a lot about ebg (I think there are duels/fights near SM outer walls, like the south area), but I don’t like it, I’m roaming on borderlands.
But IMO it depends on the matchup, on which tier is it, on which servers are there right now. Some has more roamers, some has almost none, some has a “lot” of duelers, some has almost none.

For me, EBG in higher tier is more about the blobz, and thou you can find roamers, the chance to find the zerg is pretty high compared to (non-prime-time) borderlands, when only one map-jump blob is there

I’m sure someone from the lower tiers will say what’s the roaming-situation there.

Where are they really useful outside of 1v1? Or to say, small-scale sPvP?
In wvw, they are roamers (1v1) or Veilbot/portalbot.. not useful.
In PvE.. are they in meta for other uses than portal-skipping/Reflect?
All of them are utilities.. not even one thing of our weapon skills are needed (well, if you have traited focus, then you can reflect.. but that’s meh)!

Oh i am sry, last time i checked mesmers were really good in conquest and were picked for tourneys. Heck, last tourney i won we had a mesmer. Portal is really good for team nukes, decaps, caps, rezzes with vamp rune/ele mist form. Slow/haste on stomps/rezzes is huge as well. Constant ranged pressure and lockdown, especially running pain train together with thief. I love aoe invul from shatter from teammates, it saved me many times. Invul is also great for stomps. Boon/stab strip on shatter. Stealth for teammates. Moa for target spike, preventing stomps, lord kills, removing rampage/plague etc.

Naaaah guize, mesmers are totally useless outside of 1v1. And i totally run p/p and spent my time in hotjoins after playing this game for 2+ years and few thousands of ranked matches. /sarcasm

But that’s not the question nor the topic of this thread.
Just cause you can command or participate in WvW it doesn’t mean you isntantly belong to the meta. The meta is what is best and engineer isn’t in there for WvW. That doesn’t mean you can’t make such profession work, but it’s just not as good as the profession you would replace.

Why do you suggest folks are weak readers simply because they disagree with you? You can have a discussion without backhanded comments.

When you PIN up, you do not have to have an engineer if you don’t like. Speaking of which, how often do you PIN up?

I find the engineers pull with magnet, ranged AoE with grenades, AoE cleanse with ED to be very valuable.

Cannot Claim a Camp

Our 3 man guild-party just got the reward for the mission, we took a camp and “upgraded it” (ala afk in the camp) for ~8 mins then suddenly we got the reward.. So it’s bugged some way for sure.
(We took a camp before but forgot to start the mission, so we went to the other camp, started the mission, took it then went to afk.. Now either the old camp’s upgrade was down or the new one’s was somehow “faster”, but either way it has some bug )

Tested it some weeks ago, downed allies don’t get our shared invul.
It’s sad, as invul is able to deny the stomp mechanic (ele’s #2 does the same.. with moving).

Actually… some years ago, there were a few commanders in wvw who liked to get Bubbles (Big Pink Bubbles!) before clash on their meleetrain.. when someone called Nullfield/TW, sometimes he said to Blast it
‘Cos Big Pink Bubbles on Charrs is OP! (And it’s easy, hammer guard/WH warrior in a party and a fast blast while moving through…)
The problem is that there is no low-CD Ethereal field, you can’t just waste TW/Nullfield for blasting.. while staff eles have their Fire Fields on a much lower CD. Quaggan, even their water fields have lower CD…

Stealth Finishing

You should not blame Stealth Finishing, you should blame the imbalance in downed skills.
Ele can deny 1 stomp, Mesmer can deny 1 stomp, a decent Thief can deny at least 1 stomp (well, it’s possible to port to your other location, but if you use #2 just before the stomp’s done, it’ll be.. almost 100%) .
All the other professions can’t deny the stomp (blind/stab/aegis/invul), only if the Stars decided that you’re lucky. That’s the problem, not stealth finishing.

Double Standards in WvW

My favorite angry-whisper came from a Stealth-based Thief during roaming, as I was using SD-Engi with Analyze , I was called playing “noobplay” ‘cos it destroyed him..
(You know, those ~20k burst (5-6k Pry Bar, I Love You!) SD engies, 6 second is enough most of the time.. ofc against good Thieves it’s not so easy, but average ones are just panicking and using every stealth skill..)
Was not even a /bow 1v1, just roaming..
So it’s perfectly fine to stealth away every 3 sec for another Backstab but playing something against Thieves is “noobplay”

My problem with running away is that not every class can do it with the same effort.. I mean as a power-necro, it’s almost impossible to get away, so I just fight ‘til death, I have no chance to run away, while every Warrior with GS can do it.
Ofc I’m not saying it’s cowardly, I just take it as I won and they had to run away. But if they come back after regenerating I’m a bit angry

I personally kind of like the idea of this. I used this feature in Heroes of Newerth depending on my mood. You could select shorter queue times with worse quality matches or longer queue times for better quality matches.

After watching “the video” (the presentation they streamed), for me it seems like an eotm +skyhammer+pve combo.

Ledges to knock enemies off.

you mean like there’s ledges close to hills and to the northern towers in the current borderlands map? Shocking.

I don’t remember legdes next to the gate on the current maps, neither ledge-stairs from where the falling equals death.

Automated Turrets which shoots you.

without playing the map, the effectiveness of the turrets remains to be seen: I hope those are not as annoying as the cannons in EOTM

The Knock-Back Turrets next to a ledge means certain death if not dodged/no stability. Effectiveness is big.

Big Boom Cannon which destroys every enemy outer gate (basically opening every tower), so you can capture everything faster when you have superior numbers (timezones for da win!).

because a zone blob building 20 omega golems couldn’t wipe your borderlands clear, right?

20 omega golems need “a few gold” (~50g), “some supply” (let’s say.. 3k?), and they can be destroyed by good defensive siege placement/scouting.
An event which occurs every 3 hours, where a big blob can just split up to 3×20 man groups, use the cannon, blob up again and take towers (no gate), take keeps easier (no outer gates, so supply needed only for inner), so it gives little chance for defending.

instead, it looks like this event requires a lot of coordination: there’s 3 collection points to camp, and 4 towers and 3 keeps to conquer as quickly as possible after the event is completed, that means you’ll probably need a lot of smaller, coordinated groups, instead of a huge blob of mindless zerglings spamming staff 1: scary, uh?

‘Cos during the night, when your server has 5 ppl defending against the enemy’s 40 man nightcap, the cannon will make your defense easier, yupyup.

Keep Lord, which are.. “fun to fight”.
’Cos wvw players love to fight npcs, yup.

no, we don’t like fighting npcs
but when we are defending against bigger numbers, we’d rather have useful NPCs to our side, instead of wooden puppets that will die in seconds

As long as the boss scales, its not THAT bad.. but instead of making pve-bosses, I would like to see defensive layout, where the defensive players have some advantage.. like you can shoot them from the wall while they cant you? On the video I saw the same walls as now, providing close to zero defense for defenders.

The map is nice, it’s beautiful, but.. I fear the mechanics will make it close to unplayable for me

The “2 min random footage” was a ~40 min tour on the map with developers discussing it.

ANet said they wanted to make defending more interesting (and hopefully, more rewarding); I think the design shows it. Choke points, powerful mechanics for the defending forces holding the shrines around the keep (improved mobility and stealth) and defending NPCs that can actually make a difference in a equal-numbers fight.

If the attacker have harder time when equal numbers are fighting, they’ll bring more numbers. That’s all.

Calling the “Big Boom Cannon” a “PVE event” is just plain ridicolous: there will be players from all the factions trying to win the event (by killing each other, mainly, I guess, since killing a player damages the enemy AND gives you a point), and you’ll need to decide how many players have there and how many to have close to the towers and keeps for a quick cap. Endless possibilities of taking advantage of the enemy hard work…

I don’t remember calling that event PVE event, I was calling the map one with filled pve. NPC sentry golems (shrine reward), NPC lords with pve mechanics, jumping-puzzle-like jumppads, etc.

And they are trying to split the blobs, by making it impossible to cover all the objectives with one single group.

I’m not saying they succeeded, but the ideas are sound, and I hope there will be some form of beta testing before the release.

With the towers-blocking-the-path change (which is actually an interesting one), dunno if you can split the blob up better or they’ll just blob themselves past the tower THEN split up, or just continue blobbing as always.

And don’t forget, there was a reason to take out the Orbs from normal maps.
Afaik it was the FLYING/FASTRUNNING ppl.. They’re still here, so I don’t know what to think about it.
