Spoilers: What's with Caithe & Trahearne?

Caith and Trahearne don’t emote so much as act. Don’t misunderstand this for coldness on their part.

I’m certain Trahearne and Caithe are getting down to business and it’s a personal vendetta now. They’re both the type that you don’t want to be on their list.

I also agree with the people reminding us that the Avatar isn’t the tree as a whole. I do believe it is a part of her though, and she interacts with this world through it.

What’s happening with the tree as a whole is manifested through the avatar. It’s not good… I really hope she’ll be alright.

Please don’t die Pale Tree! D:

Depends on what sort of games you’re looking at. I’m talking about ones that actually have a story and characters, i.e. RPGs or adventures. When voice-acting was on the rise, the protagonists I played were generally “silent” in the sense of not being voiced, but they certainly weren’t “silent” in the sense of not interacting with anyone or playing no role in the story.

In the “living story” our character does not exist because we never participate or are acknowledged in any of the interactions that advance and explain the plot, even though we do all the dirty work as usual.

I was personally invited to this recent shindig by the Queen of Kryta. I just finished participating a few mins ago.

The asura emissary Vorpp is currently depending on my efforts to get intel on Scarlet’s attacks and invasions.

On a personal level, the story doesn’t progress without me. I get this whole process moving and I’m indispensable to that end. I’m the one who ends up “getting it done.”

You’re free to feel you’re not heroic or helpful or not mentioned enough I suppose, but I don’t feel that way at all.

But then, I’ve never been one to demand a pat on the back.

Maybe you want more personal references or more “I’m the big hero, praise me!” moments? I dunno.

I mean could you elaborate on what you mean when you say that we don’t exist or participate in the Living Story?

I love my ranger and will never main another class…and i would say ive yet to be beaten in a heads up 1v1. and always last till the end in 5-10 man skirmishes …so dig your heels in and have some fun!

if your stuck on using a bow…maybe we can add a couple more strings to it and make it a harp..then you can roam the borderlands strummin your sad tune 8(

But, but, but then they’d have to weapon swap or -gasp- use a melee weapon to engage and their shortbow to chase. They might actually have to move!

Come on man. Ranger forum users can’t be bothered to do that.

The better ones are too busy discussing the finer art of using shortbow/longbow on swap and how to rez faster in the middle of combat.

I respect the spirit of what you’re trying to do, but you’re going about it wrong. This kind of post will accomplish nothing to that end.

Rather, it’s a bit like throwing a rock at a hornets nest.

They’re just the typical QQ element every single major MMO forum is cursed with. It’s to be expected.

The forums are a microcosm and the angry, irrational, salty elements a microcosm of a microcosm.

Anet has thick skin and they’re impressively tactful in dealing with these types.

A lot of the people here aren’t like that. Don’t worry about it too much. They’re not accomplishing anything. It’s just the way they choose to waste their time.

Trolling on the forums is not allowed, the mods are keen on making their visitors sick to death with them.

Trolling in-game depends on how many players complain. A couple years ago a dev said that it’s OK for players to build useless siege, but last month a dev now says this is a bannable offense for anyone caught doing it.

Basically you cannot have fun the way you want in this game, you can only have the fun Anet want you to have.

You’d be surprised how easy it is to determine between ignorance and malice, especially when you’re an impartial party looking from outside rather than from within.

Orochimaru, thank you for that lesson on trolling, fun, and the intents of Anet. You seem like a real trustworthy guy who knows what they’re talking about.

Charr ranger?

A typical charr druid wouldn’t be the beatnik hippy you might think about when you think druids.

Charr are masters of their domain. When I think of a charr druid, I envision a charr who’s become closer to a primal factor of themselves.

Uncontested predators that subjugate the land to their will, fierce, nigh unassailable wardens of nature that one would do well not to end up on the wrong side of.

A boon to their friends and a relentless curse to their foes, for the land itself may as well be your enemy.

An unyielding stalker, tireless in the vast expanses of the jungle. The jungle has become his ally, but it is your foe.

Nowhere to be seen and everywhere you can’t. He is the hunter and you are the prey.

I love it. After leveling every class to 80, I started a ranger and now have not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 level 80 rangers because of animations and I just love the class that much. I highly recommend learning the class, but whatever you do DON’T use a longbow and a bear!

Or if you don’t give a kitten what the popular infamy suggests, bear does have it’s place. AoE weakness, AoE condi clears in melee, durable as the day is long?

Bad players are bad. Bears can be pretty awesome though.

But I think you mean: If you’re going to be LB/SB (and then never weapon swap), never move around, can’t dodge, don’t use your utilities, or you have this notion that you should never go melee ever, yeah.

Don’t pick bear. Smokey begs you. He’s tired of the negative attention. It hurts his self-esteem.

As far as I can tell, they are not very fond of criticism. So if you are not very fond of making up stuff that goes against the setting of the game, like a player claiming to be Inquest, or some race they are not (e.g.: Orc, elf, etc), or to have killed Queen Jennah, you won’t fit well with them.

So, if you are not willing to accept any made-up nonsense that won’t fit the setting of the game even in a fractal and expect people to actually roleplay within the setting of the game, some of them won’t be very happy about having you around.

Honestly, this is what bugs me about some RPers.

“I’m my GW1 character, I’m a vampire…”

I mean, I guess it could be done, but… meeeeeh. I haven’t seen someone do it in a convincing non-cringe way. Also, it’s hard to chat in combat.

I’ve never found a comfortable medium of dialogue time and actual play. Most folks are either extremely dialogue heavy to the point no actual play gets done.

If play is involved, it get’s cut short or someone carries the dialogue on for far too long where it loses value in a ‘realistic’ setting.

I use the term loosely of course, but I mean, realistically you don’t stop in Orr for like an hour plus in the middle of no where dialoguing.

For a time, certainly, in between foes or a moment of quiet. For a specific reason to advance a plot? An interesting discovery or quip? Absolutely.

At places of rest or camps, sure, we stay for a while. Prepare. Gear up. Banter, boast, open up, convince that stubborn charr to open up. Good times.

But, yeah. Ignoring a live event to continue dialogue?

“The heroes chat about events or some thing of interest while an actual event happens within their vicinity!”

That kills immersion. I’ve had a few bad experiences with that kind of thing. I’m sure better ones exist out there, I’ve just never bothered reaching out.

If I’m particular about things and they’re particular about things, we’ll likely clash and have issues and I don’t need drama. Not that kind, anyway.

Even the OP was just looking to figure out some pattern to the members with regards to Destiny’s Edge and DE2.0.

Quit trying to make everything a sociopolitical issue.

I hate to break this to you then, but when ANet went out of their way to make 2 of the new main NPC characters lesbians in love with each other and added a NPC with a disability as well as going out of their way to make strong female chars instead of the usual generic set of male chars and maybe the token female, they had their eyes on current sociopolitical issues.

I dunno. I have an inkling that lesbians, strong females, and people with disabilities existed before Guild Wars 2 was a thing.

I’m not the only one adressing this. True story.

Of course not. I wasn’t picking on you in particular. It’s a very common thing. This is why we have threads complaining about drop nerfs all the time.

In this particular instance regarding the Lyssa temple event stalling people were doing to farm, it is true. Jeffrey Vaughn confirmed it. The drop rate was nerfed for this event.

Moreover, people just “feel” that way when they’re in a particularly stagnant bout of no rares or exotics.

It’s not been nerfed all around, though it may seem that way for you at times.

http://muller.lbl.gov/teaching/physics10/old%20physics%2010/chapters%20%28old%29/4-Randomness.htm

While you’re getting nothing, someone else is getting two exotics and another just got a precursor. While you’re getting a precursor, someone else is getting a lot of nothing.

Sometimes two people are getting precursors, and one is getting an exotic. And other times, insert endless possible scenarios here.

True randomness is exceedingly kind, exceedingly cruel, and exceedingly moderate and always without any rhyme or reason.

MF does improve your odds and quality of drops overall, but this is no guarantee to the end of getting what you want.

A chance, even a better one, remains only a chance. It is not a certainty.

There is no certain criteria or steps you can follow to get A from B in terms of the loot table. There is no method of influencing that beyond MF.

(If you’ll notice with the Secret of Southsun Cove event, one of the buffs is a huge MF buff along gold find buff; it’s a pretty safe bet Anet’s testing things for improvements in drop rates.)

As soon as you understand this, you can begin to have fun seeing that doing anything much else with the same frequency is just as likely to get you the same gain.

Or despair as your dependable monotonous repetition isn’t going to yield you a dependable monotonous reward.

As the case may be.

Hang in there, farmer. Anet’s pretty good at pleasing all of the people some of the time. Maybe they’ll work something out for you.

Or maybe this game just isn’t for you. There’s no shortage of grindy/farmy MMO’s out there for you.

I guess I would like to see Norn females have more “bulk”. If you took a max size, max width version of the Human female and Norn female, they’d still share a relatively similar outline. In contrast, if you took the male versions and compared them with each other, it’s immediately obvious which one is the Norn.

When you compare a human female and a norn female, it is ridiculously apparent which one is human and which one is a norn.

Just because you choose to correlate fiction with non-fiction does not mean others do.

You appear to be unable/unwilling to separate the two.

Saw this same nonsense when I made a comparison a bit back. An analogy can be used to make things easier to understand.

The analogy doesn’t suggest the one who made the analogy is drawing a direct correlation between the two things.

It’s impossible to believe Scarlet to be akin to any real life mass murder in any serious sense. She’s a video game character.

The fact that you think people don’t get that says something about you.

It is however a very relevant analogy when trying to make a point story/lorewise in game about why most people would celebrate or otherwise appreciate the end of Scarlet.
_

OP, it is a sad story. I’m sorry Ceara lost her mind. But it is what it is.

You can take cold solace in the fact that whatever madness and/or evil that took her, that made her Scarlet Briar, can no longer torment her. Her part in this has come to an end.

Also, “as is your premise”? What? How can I make a strawman argument when I wasnt arguing against someones argument at all? You clearly dont know what strawman even means

The existence of this frivolous, asinine thread is an argument. A very poor one but here it is. Who’s fault is that?

It’s based on a false premise, that you are being forced to do something. You are not. That’s an objective fact. It’s not very hard to understand. You’re just being petty.

It’s one weekend. They need to test these things on live, it’s necessary. You do not have to be a part of it. Resume your normal PvP activities after the beta event.

December 10th Ranger changes

in Ranger

Posted by: CETheLucid.3964

CETheLucid.3964

-snip-

Ranger. Is. The. Pet. Class. That will not change.

You shouldn’t play a class hoping that they’ll change a core mechanic about it. That’s stupid.

That’s like me playing thief, hoping they remove stealth from the class. Or a mesmer, hoping they remove clones from the class.

If you hate the pet so much, you really should reroll a class you can better tolerate. I’m not being a kitten, I sincerely mean that. Your gaming experience will be a lot better.
_

I really like my pet.

I’ve always liked the pet classes in other games, pets are awesome. The pets you can tame in GW2 are amazing and unique critters, the variety is incredible.

Best I’ve ever seen in a game. The F2 mechanics and the different rolls they can play, the different stats for the different species have endless potential.

I switch my pets around often, either on a whim, compliment my current build, or because I think a particular pet is effective for the current thing I’m doing.

It’s all good up until the AI… the AI is bad. Terrible. It’s barely tolerable on a good day, and just tripe and rage inducing on others.

Some days I can make my pet attack one target while I handle the other… and other days, when I tell it to attack one target and I take another, it inexplicably stops attacking the target I told it to attack and comes back to mine.

To be fair, when this happens, I had probably accidentally pressed it’s F2.
_

Some background/pet quirkiness:

If you have your pet attack a target different from yours with F1, if you use F2, the pet will use it’s F2 on the target that you are attacking.

Not the one you originally told it to attack with F1.

Ironically enough, if you tell your pet to begin the attack on an enemy with it’s F2, it will attack with it’s F2.

But if you the ranger select a different target from the one you told your pet to use it’s F2 on…

It’ll stop attacking the target you selected for it, and attack the enemy you are attacking. However, if you select a target for your pet with F1, and you do not use your F2…

You can select a different target from the one your pet is attacking and your pet will continue to attack the target you selected for it until it’s dead (the target or the pet) or you call it back/swap it leaving you the ranger free to change your targets around while your pet focuses on the one you wanted it to attack with F1.

Now if you’re still with me, congratulations. You’re probably a decent ranger.
_

Dear Anet, please take note of the above. The above situation with how the pet AI works is crazy.

It’s confusing, non-intuitive, and something you “learn” through a lot of trial and error.

If we can’t get a comprehensive pet AI redo anytime soon, would it be too much to ask that the current system be streamlined, tweaked to be more consistent and less… crazy?
_

Proposed Hot Fix:

Let F2 skills “lock” a pets target like F1 does. The ranger can use their pets F2 on one enemy, and they themselves can attack another like how F1 works.

An additional function to using F2 to target with the pet would be to let it automatically use it’s F2 on recharge (F2 attack always has priority) on the selected target, that way you don’t change targets by pressing F2 (like how it works now).

It would fire off on the selected enemy automatically, until you called it back with F3 or pressed F1.

Using F1 works like it does now, and would double as a way to “turn off” the auto F2 attack.

Using F1 simply locks the pet to your selected target and does not activate this “auto F2” function that using F2 to target an attack would do.

Not pushing anything just works like it does now, attack what I’m attacking, attack what attacks us behavior… until you do push one of the pet commands.

Using F2 later in the fight simply works like it does now, it activates and your pet then “locks” your current target.

Pressing F1 locks the pet on a target like it does now, and does not commit the F2 attack to an auto sequence.

Pressing F1 or F3 breaks/turns off the “auto F2” function. As would swapping obviously.

This is good for non-offensive and utility based F2’s, though they could also be used in the auto F2 way.

Something like this works within the current framework of the current pet system and would be a godsend for rangers in terms of pet management.
_

Also, Nike’s idea is awesome and something that should be considered in the event of a total pet AI redo.

Thank you players, devs, haters, for reading if you read. Appreciate the time. Sorry it got a little long.

My thoughts on Ranger balance

in Ranger

Posted by: CETheLucid.3964

CETheLucid.3964

I feel sorry for Anet. Ranger must be a nightmare of a class to balance without making them too weak or too strong.

So here’s my stab at it: A good fix for rangers range options, the bows, the signature weapon of the class, would be to give them an overall huge weapons damage buff putting them up there with warriors in raw damage.

The rangers longbow damage should be top tier in ranged damage, something they truly shine at, while also being fairly insane with their melee stuff.

Rangers, the jack of all trades and master of them too. Not the guy or gal you want to meet on the field of combat.

To off set this boon of weapons power gain, the rangers pet would have to take a massive damage output nerf. But we can’t leave our beloved pets high and dry though!

So to make up for that, all pets should be buffed to be exceptionally durable critters.

Durable enough that they simply can’t be ignored. Essentially a second body on the field that you can’t two shot kill. You can kill minions and summons easy enough.

But a ranger pet should warrant the combatants attention to the end of killing it… though, typically, it shouldn’t be worth it.

On the whole, the rangers pet would do paltry and very minimal damage output overall, but be a persistent nuisance that unless dealt with, will be the undoing of the enemy.

This is where the unique F2 skills of the pets could shine, being the pièce de résistance of a pet.

This would make up for it otherwise being a big lump of meat that can and would likely be ignored, due to it otherwise being a very weak source of DPS in lieu of greater threats on the field; these skills should be absolutely devastating in what they do, albeit one trick pony’s.

And to that end, given greater cooldowns to such a degree that they can’t be abused.
_

So, those are my thoughts on a balance update for rangers. Just wanted to put this out there for consideration, maybe something to be used to build other ideas with.

What do you think?

[PvX] My blasts prioritize my combo fields

in Profession Balance

Posted by: CETheLucid.3964

CETheLucid.3964

Just allow us to blast them all, when several fields are in the same location.

This. Able to blast up to 3 fields (of different types) at once, but with a diminishing returns system:

if #fields > 1, each field effect duration is decreased by 20%, cumulative, so:

  • most recent field – 80% usual duration
  • 2nd most recent – 64%
  • 3rd – 51%

and/or…

Fields can interact, to form new fields, eg:

  • fire + water field = steam field (cures conditions and grants regen)
  • ethereal + dark field = void field (convert boons -> conditions)
  • ethereal + light field = celestial field (convert conditions -> boons)
    etc

Obviously wouldn’t need to be exhaustive.

This would be wonderful.

Petition for Pet Removal *Option*

in Ranger

Posted by: CETheLucid.3964

CETheLucid.3964

Please. The pet mechanic is basically a summon that follows us around that we have some control over. It is nothing compared to the other class mechanics, as not only do the other professions have far better control, they can benefit from using them and not using them as well.

Hounds of Balthazar? Thieves Guild? Warband Support? Phantasms? Those are essentially summons or pets as well, except they despawn after a time limit (Phantasms after they die or the target dies) and you can’t make them come back to you or do a certain attack. But at the same time, you have the option to not use them. With the pet, the moment to get in a fight, you’re stuck with it. And while it helps early on, once you get to a Risen Abomination or anything that uses lots of AoE, your pet is either dead or just making things worse for you.

The pet mechanic makes a ranger a ranger? Please. It breaks the ranger more than not. Either fix it, give us the ability to stow our pets in fights so they can’t be used against us, or ditch the mechanic in favor of a better one. So far, they’ve done none of that.

Until they do, the ranger remains a sub-par profession compared to the others.

You sure refuted that soundly. Look here, I found another thing you can so accurately compare ranger pets to.

It reminded me of your argument. Definitely needs a buff. Flame burst is gonna eat that poor pup alive. ):

Oh ok, there is no proof in his post, there is clearly a lack there of, and if we go with his argument, Anet has recently as in the last couple Quarters been quick to fix patch note and Tool Tip discrepancies. So the lack of then doing that points even further to it being a bug.

I agree with this, Anet have been quicker to fix these things than they used to be. Look, I’m not arguing for or against this being a bug or not, all I asked for was some official response on the matter.

For example:

FYI the unblockable portion is a confirmed bug. ANET did not allow rangers to use it during the most recent TOL.

I’d like to see the official info about this, if available. Don’t mistake my request for info as a for or against argument.

The best that can be found on this unless Devs stated on anything on Reddit for the ToL, Edit here is the Link

Well, as long as we’re being pedants about everything it should be said that this is not an official statement.

That’s a call by the tournament sponsors on account that the SoTW change isn’t a patch note, ergo, ‘unintended’.

The fact that the tournament sponsors had to make such a call means they don’t know if it’s intended or not and err’d on the side of caution.

It follows that if there was a patch note or mention by an official source as a change to the skill’s function, it likely wouldn’t have been banned from use.

Until we get official word, who’s to say it’s not simply an undocumented change?

But seriously… most people here aren’t arguing the semantics of the change being classified as a bug. The change intended or otherwise, adds something new to the skill.

IMO, it’s on the level of a minor QoL thing. I like it. But I certainly don’t believe 8 seconds of utility on a ~52-60 sec CD is OP.

You sacrifice the passive on top of all that, and it has a huge tell. Literally.

A giant Mario coin pops up over your enemy’s head basically begging you “interrupt me!!” and failing that, you can tell the person is unblockable because they hulked out.

Failing all that, it’s in their status bar and counting to 8 isn’t very hard. You don’t have to agree with me and you’re free to argue it’s OP as it is.

But no one here except you is honestly arguing on the semantics of it’s classification and that’s a foolish place to make your stand because we simply don’t know.

Unless you’re going to follow up with official word from Anet, I’d suggest a more practical argument that isn’t grounded in baseless conjecture.

Don’t play Ranger.

I think the simplest solution to your reaction is this:

Warriors have adrenaline skills. Mesmers have clones.

Rangers were always going to be a pet class. You came into the game knowing that. They’re working on our problems. There are problems.

But rangers will always have pets.

They’re not going away. We’re as likely to lose our pets as mesmers are to lose their phantasms and clones, or warriors are to lose their adrenaline mechanic.

Take it or leave it.

Braham and Eir's "Reconciliation"

Well, your choices are pretty limited when facing possible extinction from the dragon threat of Tyria.

1. Stay home with your family and wait until you and your family are killed off miserably.
2. Take up the mantle of hero, leave kid with father, try to save the world for said child that you might have a future together.

Which is better do you think? Says a lot about you as a person. Being that they’re norn no less, what do you think is more reasonable?

She didn’t abandon her son or even blow off her husband, she did it because she was able to make a difference.

And she has. Not just for herself or her family but for all of Tyria. Eir’s a hero. It’s something Braham begins to understand. She didn’t run off just for the glory of it.

That’s just a nice bonus, given she’s a norn. And Braham begins to see for himself, it’s not all just stories.

Why do you rangers suck in Dungeons?

Could a Ranger play melee instead of bow? Yes. But what if you wanted to play an Archer – what profession do you pick? ArenaNet describes the “master of the bow” as the Ranger. But the Ranger’s “mastery of the bow” is not working.

This, pretty much. I like to play ranged characters. I have in every online game I played, and I hate the idea that ranged weapons are just something to use until the enemy happens to get close enough to switch to your REAL weapon or for extremely situational/quirky encounters.

I’m probably one of the ‘bad’ rangers in peoples’ eyes because I will not use a melee weapon unless a very specific circumstance comes up in which I absolutely have to (and I will be extremely annoyed in such cases). But quite frankly, if it comes down to “Melee or get out”, I’ll take the latter option. The main selling point of rangers to me was 2 (default) 1200-range weapons + Eagle-eye. If the class was never intended to be able to stay at a range and fight (and given the way the Risen behave, that does seem to be the case), then I consider that a massive failing on ANET’s part, as the lack of a class that is designed for this purpose pretty much means there’s no place for me here. I’ve tried R/LB Warrior and SB/P-P Thief, and while the mobility is a lot closer to what I wanted in the latter’s case (though still not ideal), they still seem massively kitten. :-(

Second hint: If you picked your pet based which one looked cool, you’re probably playing a hunter.

But they make me use a pet and you can’t transmute a cat, so… >_>

This game will need you to switch between ranged combat and melee combat. You have a weapon swap for a reason. If you refuse to use it, Anet can’t help you.

You’ll need to L2P. Since you’re hellbent on range, you might try an elementalist on staff.

But given the nature of your complaint with ranger weapon swapping, you’ll then complain that you have to swap attunements and you don’t want to do that.

Nothing Anet can do to help you there.

To be sure, ranger does need some love. But they’re not a terrible unplayable class. Far from it. Ranger is always teetering on the ends of barely legal and UP.

I do not envy the balance devs when it comes to this class.

OP I’m sorry, but it really is a learn to play issue. As a ranger you’ll need to learn both range and melee combat styles, while managing your pet, or you will be a bad ranger.

That’s not going to change. A ranger is good at everything she does; to be good she must do everything she is able to do.

Or else the ranger falls short. Do or don’t. But you can’t blame Anet for your own unwillingness to learn how to play your class.

Shopping for clothes is a horrible experience for a Sylvari Male, or males in general, really.

Nah, GW2 is actually pretty good about this kind of thing. Even a lot of the robe type armor tends to be open ended and you are in fact wearing pants.

And of course there are a few armors that are straight up pants. Compared to other MMOs banana dress, I’m quite happy with GW2’s selection for male magic users.

Mixing and matching can get you some really cool looking combos.

We had to make our point clear with a 1000+ post and countless locked threads and negative PR on various gaming websites that would scare away any potential consumers in the feature while damaging the image of the company.

It’s go loud or go home I guess. If that’s what it takes then that’s what it takes.

Because gaming journalism is in such a wonderful place right now, right?

But hey, let’s entertain that. What gaming websites are you talking about? What negative PR?

Are you talking about Gaile Gray? Because she’s been saintly about the whole thing from beginning to end.

At the end of the day you have a relatively stable client and servers that never went down but for a few moments (for you) to get you your update.

On this point, certainly a valid one to raise, the Anet team listened to their players (even the really… ‘special’ ones) and addressed the issue within the span of a day.

One day.

That’s an incredible turn around, with Gaile being here every step along the way until this point and will likely follow up post-patch.

You have such a negative, sensationalist view of the whole thing when in reality this is just a very average event in the update cycle.

The community was right to raise the issue and Anet listened to it’s players. Those are the facts.

All the usual junk involved in a typical hot topic with a happy ending that bellies the fact that Anet listens to it’s players.

Not even newsworthy on a slow day. They’ll need folks like you to spin it for them.

Because CoF farming didn’t really pick up until the AC changes?

CoF will get it’s changes shortly, and whatever faceroll run people come up with to take it’s place will be dealt with accordingly until everything is sorted. Savvy?

Besides, with the next dragon being an underwater type, I’m sure that means underwater combat is going to be a focus soon enough.

Could have, but it didn’t cost you anything. Next time don’t be a kittenhat (to a GM no less) and move over a few pixels.

Or, you know, it might not have been the GM and you’d still D/C because any other countless reasons.

The number of authority abuse apologists on this thread is frightening.

There would be no issue at all here beyond what the OP made it out to be.

Now if the GM took all his gold, temp/perma banned him, ate his legendary or all his gear or something, sure. You can be mad.

That’s an egregious abuse of power. That’s totally out of line, and I’d be behind the OP or anyone the victim of such authority abuse.

OP possibly got soft kicked (something we can’t prove) from the game because they’re being a jerk? I’m having trouble giving any kittens for that.

The lack of common sense in people is disturbing.

Economy concerns

This is incredibly hyperbolous. In the last week, the median player earned less than 3 gold in the new content (that’s discounting all players who earned less than 1 gold).

The ENTIRE week? You have to be kidding.

There is NO way the median player earned ONLY 3g from the new content in an ENTIRE week.

3g is like 20 minutes of play in DR or CS. You can’t tell me that the median player played less than 20 minutes in either of those places over a week.

Median, not average. It’s entirely possible – of course, it would mean that a lot of the people (over a half of active players) are not interested in this new content at all.

It’s not that I’m not interested as a casual-ish gamer, it was incredibly done. The story is awesome, and I can’t wait to see where this is all going.

It’s a great update in general. But I’m also not there farming 24/7.

I just feel like doing other junk both in game and out. I really don’t care if I’m missing out on the once in a lifetime million billion gold farm.

It’s not that important to me. I like how that seems incredible to some people. lol

When I do go there to farm though, it’s nice. I like it. It’s good money. I can see why the pavilion attracts the farmer type. It has everything all in one place.

It says to the user “farm me :)”.

Doing something over and over ad nauseum isn’t my cup of tea though. So I stop and come back to it later. Everything becomes fun with friends.

I have a few who rarely have time to get on due to work.

They hadn’t gotten the balloon achievement, and it was a great time running around everywhere to get the balloons, even though I had it already myself. I had a blast.

The other night in doing that I met her out in Orr in Cursed Shore (no balloons!), and we just decided to randomly take on the risen giant champion together.

It was a longer fight. We didn’t really get any help beyond one or two people passing by, but eventually we defeated it. It was challenging!

Pretty much the same deal happened the other night with another dear friend and a champion troll out in Sparkfly Fen.

I remembered that troll used to own me back when I first began the game, it was satisfying to take it down.

We were handsomely rewarded due to the new champ loot system, it was wonderful.

We might not have done that prior due to champs not really giving you much of anything.

John Smith’s statements reassure me both that I’m not alone in my way of thinking (as in I’m not a minority), and that I’m right in not worrying about it.

Other things will come and are coming. Y’all have a good time in the Queen’s Pavilion. :3

Please, don't assassinate Queen Jennah!

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: CETheLucid.3964

CETheLucid.3964

Yeah, cause nothing that happens in the world can be out of sync with the Personal Story. The truth is, Jennah is only around in instances, they can easily kill her off while preserving this.

Rurik and Togo both die in GW1, that doesn’t stop you from repeating missions which have them alive. If they can kill an Elder Dragon yet have his minions and champions still appearing in the open world, they can easily take out a queen who has little to no relevance to the open world outside of minor mentions in a handful of DEs.

That’s all well and good, but you forget that Rurik and Togo dying are part of their respective games stories.

If an add-on (Guild Wars Beyond) had Rurik and Togo all fine and dandy, that would be an impressive paradox to bridge.

Queen Jennah does not die in Guild Wars 2. She looses relevance as you continue your personal story, but she’s still around.

The dungeons expand on the games lore to that end. Queen Jennah is a very important figure in this game.

We’re even getting a living story dedicated to her! :P

At best, the queens life may yet be threatened. Maybe she’ll be killed off in a later game.

But she’s not going to be killed off as part of the living story of this games story without some impressive explanation and some serious in-game retcon, leading into said sequel or something like that.

It could be done, but short of something as huge as a sequel it would be a horrible, stupid idea.

Though, seeing as the majority in this thread don’t pay attention to any of that I’m sure many of you would be none the wiser… even happy about it.

Bunch of sick puppies, some of you.

We can get something interesting without killing off beloved characters, calm your bloodlust. Remember Tybalt.

Am I able to keep up from the Living World Developments? I’m a real fan of the whole History and Story development of GW2 (I’ve read the books. Loved them.)

Excluding season one unfortunately, yes. You can play all of season two which leads into HoT.

They designed season one and two differently. Season one was a living open world event that happened at intervals that you had to be at in real time when it came out.

Someday they might bring season one back in the new format.

If you don’t have or are missing parts of season two, you should be able to pick up the parts you need for like ~200 gems.

Has the story for the main quest line and the Living World evolved so far out that I would be lost/clueless?

Not especially. Same basic story. Each dragon does tend to bring a new trick or twist. But in general it’s easy to follow.

That said, a lot of major things happen in HoT.

Has there been any major changes excluding HoT?

A whole bunch. New trait system, new pvp reward system, wvw EoTM map… a lot of the basic systems have been overhauled and improved over the years.

It’s not hard to figure out though.

Season two brought a couple new PvE maps prior to HoT out west. The drylands before the jungle area that opens up in HoT: Dry Top and The Silverwastes.

How’s the WvW and the server population? Is it still poppin?

WvW has experienced a slight drop since HoT came out.

Most are waiting for the new revamps that Anet is going to do for WvW and a lot of people weren’t satisfied with the state of WvW post-HoT.

The top WvW servers still have a powerful presence in most places, even the new borderlands.

The lower tier servers that have always had coverage problems are worse for wear. Server population in general though?

Tons of people still play.

Ghastly Longbow Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: CETheLucid.3964

CETheLucid.3964

Hello, I’m posting about a bug with the Ascalonian Catacombs Longbow that you can purchase with Tears of Ascalon.

It’s in game name is called “Ghastly Longbow”. I see a lot of people refering to it (as I myself once refered to it) as the “Ascalonian Longbow”.

I figure maybe that’s why when I’ve reported this bug twice in game with the bug report feature, it didn’t seem addressed.

I figure I’d make a forum post and get everything as detailed as I can get it this round. It’s a pretty simple thing.

The Ghastly Longbow has an amazing glowing and particle effect at night and in dark caves like all of the other Ghastly weapons from the AC dungeon set.

It seems to work in stages. At dusk, the bow glows and the particle effect “pulses” on and off for lack of a better word. This works properly.

At night, the bow completely glows a ghostly blue hue and the particle effect is in full swing, a constant thing, like the other AC dungeon weapons.

It’s awesome. But here’s where the bug come in. You lose this awesome particle effect when you fire the bow… and it does not come back.

This isn’t consistent with how every other weapon from the AC dungeon works.

Now when you reload into an area and if it’s night, the glow and the particle effect comes back… until you fire the weapon again.

It’s a very irritating bug because the bow is so cool at night, but you can’t experience it if you actually… use it.

It’s a complete and total bummer. It’s still an awesome bow, it’s cool looking in general.

But the perk of owning an AC weapon for that awesome effect at night… you don’t get to enjoy that if you pick Ghastly Longbow.

It would be wonderful if I could get a dev answer regarding this issue. Some kind of confirmation this will be looked into.

I, and anyone who likes cool haunted longbows would really really appreciate it if this got fixed. Thank you!
