Explination for Signet of Rage Nerf?

in Profession Balance

Esplen.3940

Well, currently Warriors are getting rewarded for not using their Burst abilities, spamming their Signet and FGJ (FGJ makes sense being spammed, obviously) for 100% Fury uptime in addition to getting nice amounts of Might and Swiftness. The Swiftness isn’t really an issue, but having 100% Fury and instantly 8 stacks of Might while looking pretty definitely means they’re doing something wrong.

The same can still be said of Healing Signet where the Warrior is being rewarded for not touching it at all. Not only can it end up giving the Warrior stats, but it also gives them really good healing/second, especially paired with the no animation/cast time/etc. Additionally, you can add in Crit-heal food for almost 700 hp/sec.

So they make it look more appealing to not use Signet of Rage and make the effect of Signet of Rage not as powerful to incentivise players not using it. Of course, most players will still end up spamming it, but we may see some Healing Surge usage combined with Burst Skills being better… or not, in PvE.

Aetherblade Retreat: an alarming trend

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Using the living story’s logic, it’s time to remove all of the risen from the game and the entire story quest. Zhaitan has been gone for ages. Make everything limited and you don’t have a game anymore.

Zhaitan/Risen/Orr are all part of YOUR (individual character’s) personal storyline.

You seem to miss my point. There is no reason to differentiate these two things. The logic behind the living story is that the world is ever growing, ever changing, so in order to encompass that idea, they make content limited and remove it after a period of time. They do this to make the game feel like a real world in that once an event has been done, it’s done. That particular person/thing is done and gone.

And so using that same logic, Zhaitan needs to be removed because that event is done and over, but they don’t do that because you need to have some actual content in the game. By making the living story the way it is, the game never grows. There is absolutely no intelligent reason not to have everything be your own story.

Zhaitan is gone for the people that have finished their own story line. He is not gone for the ones that haven’t. The people who haven’t finished their storyline are probably a fair percentage of the population.

And you could say the aetherblades are still there for those who haven’t encountered them either, I fail to see your point.

And YOU seem to have failed to understand my point. The WORLD has progressed. The WORLDS personal storyline has moved a little bit. Now the WORLD does not have the Molten Alliance actively plotting to take over. Currently, the WORLD has Aetherblades trying to disrupt and invade the Lion's Archcouncil. However, when the Dragon Bash ends, the WORLD will not have Aetherblades actively vying for control. They will have (potentially) stopped. (I say this because with both the Molten Alliance and Aetherblade Pirates, we haven’t seen or heard of their head honchos so I’m sure they’ll be back for more.)

It’s like when you make a new character. You defeat the big, bad guy at the very beginning. He’s gone and done for. Woot woot, you finished him, never to fight him again on that character.

Now imagine someone was playing a supporting character, like one of the guards, or npc’s. When YOU finish killing the beast, regardless of whether or not they participated in the fight, they (at least in YOUR iteration of the game) also get moved on and have now progressed. It doesn’t matter that they didn’t get credit for killing the beast. Sure, they could also be called the Hero of Shaemoor, or whatever other name you get from finishing your tutorial. BUT THEY DIDN’T AND THEY AREN’T.

Crafting runes/sigils...wtf

in Crafting

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

In regards to low level Runes/Sigils (Minor and Major, to be precise), it’s fair that they use items that aren’t easily accessible.

Why?

Because players aren’t, in the confines of the game, supposed to have easy access to them. They’re supposed to be bonus goods to put on your items. The only problem with this, having said it, is that they ARE easy to access out of the realm of crafting.

Upon playing the game, you are immediately thrust into level 14 Masterwork items (not including karma items). These level 14 Masterwork items all contain Sigils/Runes allowing you to boost your stats tremendously. From this point on, using and maintaining Sigils/Runes becomes trivial and, in some cases, even meaningless.

However, pre-level 14 is the only time in the game where Runes and Sigils will make an overwhelming difference in your gameplay experience (yes, it makes Runes and Sigils at level 80 look like wearing a Hero’s Band instead of not wearing a ring at all). Why is this? Because at lower levels, let’s say level 1, you’re supposed to have access to very little amount of stats.

In fact, assuming you’re playing this game with no previous experience, you have just your base stats and that’s enough to kill mobs. Now, let’s take a step forward. There’s level 0 gear (which is, ironically, stronger than level 1 gear) that you can wear. This gear will give you a total of 12 Power.

You start with 24 in all stats, so 12 is already 50% of what you have. (And starting gear gives you 0 stats.)

Now let’s add in Runes/Sigils. Each rune can give you 10 in any stat you desire (11 in Condition Damage if you want to be fancy, but that won’t add anything before upscaling at this point). That’s another 41% in your stats. Note: You can use 4 runes at level 1.

This means that at level 1, the game expects you to have 24 in all stats, but it’s possible to have an additional 52 in all stats before going into Runes and Trinkets (yes, you can use trinkets at level 1).

So, there’s a Polla and a Hero’s Band. The Hero’s Band will give you 2 to all stats (and 2% critical damage, which is infinitely more than is physically possible to attain at level 1). Polla will only give you 1 to Power, Precision, Vitality and Toughness (but those are the stats we are looking at in this dissection).

So you now have an additional 3 stats, which you can improve with an Adorned Jewel which will add an additional 4 to any stat you choose (and you can use 2 of these).

We now have a total of 63 bonus stat points.

So, we move onto a Sigil. With Sigils, your best bet here is to go with a stacking sigil or an on-critical sigil because the others will only give you a 1% boost (3% on specific mob-killing which is somewhat useful, but I digress). A Sigil of Bloodlust, however, will only give you 25 bonus Power at level 1 (which is still better than nothing, a LOT better), so we’ll go with that.

Now we have an additional 88 stat points. BUT WAIT! The weapons will give 5 or 10 Power (5 for 1 handed, 10 for 2 handed), which means you can have an additional 10 (let’s say you’re using a 2h because there aren’t many good sigils you can use at this point, anyways).

So we’re now at 98 bonus stat points.

You have a base of 24 and then you have an additional 98 (before food).

So… 122 stat points when you’re only supposed to have 24. That’s 500% of what you’re supposed to have. You can then add an additional 20 Power (since that’s what we’re using because the armor gives power) from a Grilled Steak. (I don’t include Nourishment since it will add 1% of your Toughness/Vitality which will only give you 1 at most, if you’ve been stacking Toughness/Vitality instead of Power.)

142 Power. Nearly 600% of what you’re supposed to have.

At level 80, however, you pick your Runes for the secondary effects (in certain cases) instead of the stat points. You will never reach 600% of your current stat spread via runes/sigil/food after level 1.

Body size is antiproportional to intelligence

According to Aesop, when the gods portioned out intelligence, they gave equal measure to all men. Those of smaller stature received more by proportion than those of larger frame. That is why larger men appear to be more slow witted and why the wisest are always smaller body.

[Poll] New Changes Healthy for Mesmer Class?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

The problem is that Phantasms account for roughly 40% of our sustained dps, meaning unless you’re going for a non-sustained dps burst build (aka Shatter), you’re not going to use your class mechanic.

I like how Warrior holding onto their class mechanic got addressed. However, it only got addressed because it was unnecessarily large amounts of damage bonus being added in place of a damage skill. Since Mesmers don’t have a trait giving us more damage for each shatter skill off cooldown, we won’t be getting that same mechanic addressed.

Basically, what I’m complaining about in this post is the fact that we rely so heavily on our Phantasms for dps that it’s kind of silly that our class mechanic is to get rid of them for a small, small burst.

Now, for a literal representation of how our DPS is without Phantasms (ignoring you, shatter), 100b can easily hit 30,000 damage. Imagine with that exact setup, you instead dealt 18,000 damage because a mob cleaved your banners, effectively dropping your dps. (Shhh, it doesn’t work perfectly, but that’s how weak our attacks are without Phantasms making up the difference).

Responding to most Warrior Posts in 1 Thread

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

The problem, I find, is that the overall gameplay of the Warrior is not only easier, but also more forgiving.

I can watch anime while playing GW2 and the difference in my DPS is a very low drop in my overall damage because of not using skills immediately as they go off cooldown in my roration.

However, if I play on my Mesmer, I have to actively pay attention to enemy animations, timings and other small quirks.

Now, to be fair, as a Mesmer, the class is being shoved into a utility only role, so it does make sense that a Warrior will deal more damage, but I think the problem is how easy it is to deal damage, bring utility, and survive as a Warrior.

Well, Esplen, how does a Warrior deal damage, bring utility, and survive? Warrior has one of the highest DPS. Now, that’s not to say they have the highest (not including cheese strategies like FGS or Bearform) overall damage and dps. It’s pretty fair to say they have the overall highest DPS versus effort, though. I doubt many people will argue (unless we’re talking PvP). Warrior utility? Banners, Fury, Might. Yes, a Warrior can, by themselves, almost give full Might to a party permanently. Survivability on a Warrior, in PvE, makes everything seem easy. After having played thousands of hours on my Mesmer, I got a Warrior to level 80 during Crown Pavilion Boss Blitz. I instantly geared it with Arah gear, so I have one of every weapon and full armor, everything is Berserker except my trinkets which are either green Berserker or Ascended PTV (Backpack). I can outdps and outsurvive my Mesmer, both are to be expected, however it takes a lot less effort even though I miss out on on-demand Invulnerability, Evasion, and Reflects. My Warrior, on the other hand, only needs to use Endure Pain versus big fights like Lupicus (especially if my group likes to spawn bubbles) and can take plenty of hits without worrying. On my Mesmer, if I take one hit, then my health is either going to stay at 1% for half a minute, or I’m down. If, by chance, I actually have my utility I mean, Heal, skill up, then I’ll be at 50% HP. On my Warrior, not only can I take at least 2 hits that my Mesmer couldn’t (at LEAST), but I also heal without ever pressing the Heal button. Heck, I’m usually sitting around 75% health because I can slack off and take the extra hits.

Tl;dr: Warrior is too easy to play in most cases. It can do too much with too little effort.

I have an 80 Mesmer, Warrior, Thief, and Necro. Each of them I have done extensive solo play in scenario’s like Arah solo. My main with more than 80% of my gametime is my Mesmer. The easiest of my characters to play is my least geared character, my Warrior.

If you really want, I can go into Thief and Necro, although I haven’t really used my Thief except as a bank for about a year.

co nfusion about the heroic chest

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

So with the heroic edition armor chest you receive the chosen skin (so the skins for each piece) AND you receive an armor set, level 0, that you can use on a character of that armor weight. As you level, you will get better gear. Stats don’t really matter until you are max level, however.

Actually, each of the boxes contain 2 items (well, actually 7).
The first item is the full set, contained within itself. You can open this up to receive all of the pieces of the set individually, but you will have unlocked them all into your wardrobe just by having it.

The second (6 items) is/are the individual pieces. You can’t actually wear these, either. They’re also just item skins. You can, however, apply these to your armor for use. If you go to the Wardrobe tab or double click the item, you can apply it for free, but it will consume the item. Using it again (via the Wardrobe tab) will cost Transmutation Charges.

So the real choices are:

Are you sure you want to pick Light Armor?
Do you like the Light Armor the best?
Does it matter?
Do you have to pick now?

Remember, all three sets are in the gem store, but they cost $10 each, or about 100g (estimating current market prices).

Healing skills should hurt the undead

in Suggestions

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

But, technically, they’d be getting healed.

The reason why “healing” hurts undead is because it’s typically holy/light spells which is opposite to their unholy/dark magic (sustaining them). In this game, it is Magic that sustains them and Magic that heals.

If Healing Magic were to affect Risen, it would heal them because it could mend their sinew/muscle/structure.

Keep in mind that most healing Magic in GW2 is Water Magic, not Light Magic (if we were to assume that there are archetypes to magic, which there are, it’s just they removed the magic trinity of damage dealing).

Im not saying its a terrible skill, im saying it is a terrible combo finisher leap.

As the clone-summon part does not indicate a leap finisher, I thought it can’t be misunderstood.. seems like I was mistaken.

I may be wrong, but I believe the clone itself still has a leap finisher as part of old functionality. Maybe I’m just thinking about Swordsman.

Either way, if you Leap-Swap immediately, it’s still a Leap finisher and the clone is typically not dead within that timeframe (if you queue it up).

Actually, the only problem I found with it was the lack of polish code (not to be confused with polished code, although similar).

Things to note are:

  • Enemies will occasionally strike players in melee after their ranged attacks have been thrown, no animation shown. It seems like remnants of code that are copying Mario where players will get hurt by touching enemies, however it occurs when near an enemy, not when touching an enemy.
  • Mushroom jumping lacks finesse. Player position is ignored when touching a mushroom for a jump. It auto-centers your player AFTER the jump has been initiated. This means players can jump a longer distance by moving forward to the edge of a mushroom, then get jumped instead of falling off. It also will screw up normal, unabusive jumps.
  • Frog boss jump attacks don’t coordinate. The damage and animation are off. If you jump over the animation, you’ll still get hit, but if you jump as it starts, it acts as if you rolled. If you roll, however, you still get hit (for the most part).
  • Poison water tends to tick every full second (instead of using delta time) meaning that players can get damaged immediately upon entering water as opposed to being in water for one full second.

You can’t cater to entitled players and skilled players with the same content.

And yes, for some random reason, there are vocal casual completionists. I guess they’re just entitled players.

Remember, the Living Story used to cater to low levels, but the higher levels (even the casual completionists) complained that the content was too easy/fast/boring. Now, they cater to level 80 skilled players so upleveled/entitled/skill-less players find the content too hard/long/requires too much attention.

The animation on Dune Cloak is tiny and not indicative of it’s range, and the basically flat 20% condi duration is huge (300 expertise? sign me up!). Numerically, it’s actually better than IH on sustained fights (for burst, IH is going to be better).

This is because the best case scenario for IH on sustained dps is:

  • Untraited Axe
  • Axe Ambush
  • 3 clones (lol?)
  • +300% condition duration on Ambush ability

If you trait Axe, it drops to +200% condition duration because axe clones do not get the bonus axe on ambush.

If you opt for Scepter, it gets, at most, +150% condition duration because each clone innately gets 50% of your condi duration (lol?).

Keep in mind, even though these numbers are large for condition duration, they’re only good for burst because you can’t constantly dodge.

Assuming you ran ideal runes/sigils for dodging and had 100% Vigor uptime, instant cast time on all your abilities, etc, you’d still get 0.43 dodges/second in PvE/WvW and 0.38 dodges/second in sPvP. This assumes Rune of the Adventurer + proc every 10s (MoR), Sigil of Energy + proc every 9s, Mirage Advance + Return every 25s. This does not account for Sigil of Stamina as that is… not reliable for bursting?

With all of that in mind, you’d get, at best, a theoretical +129% condition duration/sec uptime while running 3 untraited axe clones. This turns your burst into sustained dps but since you’re running clones all the time, you also don’t actually have burst anymore.

The reason why it’s 129 cd/sec is because it doesn’t affect any of your rotation except your ambushes. Without a realistic rotation, I don’t know how much of your condi damage is dedicated to ambushes, which will significantly hurt that number (although if you’re camping axe with all that setup you’re probably not going to be doing much else).
