PvE'ers: What would it take...

Personally, as a PvE’r with a little bit of a WvW solo side, I’d like to see a WvW map that doubles as a PvE map with full blown dynamic events.

E.g. take a map like Fields of Ruin and imagine if that was a WvW map. It’s kinda awkward since there are only 2 opposing sides, but you get my idea, I think.

This map would get rid of sentries and keeps/towers and simply have these camps of sort. I think it would also need to have a player-limit of 100 and/or some sort of anti-zerg mechanism such as…

Each Veteran Guild Supervisor/etc would have an attack similar to Lupicus AoE but it would fire, say, 2 shots for one player, 4 shots for 2 players, 8 shots for 3 players etc etc. Each shot aimed slightly at the target, but with varying degrees of random offsets (such as a small speed modifier, a moderate accuracy modifier). This would discourage stacking because all the aoes would surround you and be desynced so dodge rolling wouldn’t work 100% of the time.

It could also have a special buff that is an aura, given to every player character. This buff would not do anything when you’re with 5 other people, but if you start moving with more than 5 players, each player will receive diminished stats, slightly.

I just want an open-world WvW PvE area that doesn’t consist of zerging and can actually be fun to just PvE AND/OR WvW in, without having to worry about zergs.

Predicitions on Skill Bar for Mesmer

To improve build diversity, we are removing Empowering Mantras, Prismatic Understanding, and moving Warden’s Feedback to be a Grandmaster (swapping with Disruptor’s Sustainment). As of yet, we have not found any replacement for the two removed traits. If we ever decide to release new traits in these slots, all players, legacy or not, will have to unlock them again.
Illusionist’s Celerity will now only affect Utility Skills, so it does not improperly stack with traited weapons.
Phantasmal Warden’s will now reflect projectiles. Traiting Warden’s Feedback will cause them to not reflect projectiles.
Fixed Mind Slash chain. Was improperly removing boons, applying vulnerability, and dealing bonus damage to targets without boons.
To improve build diversity, the way traits provide stats has been changed.
Dueling will now provide Condition Damage instead of Precision.
Illusions will now grant Boon Duration instead of Condition Damage
Chaos will now grant Power instead of Boon Duration.
Domination will now grant Healing Power instead of Power.
Inspiration will now grant Precision instead of Healing Power.

Fixed a bug where Critical Infusion was giving Mesmers Vigor.
Fixed a bug where Sharper Images was being activated by Illusions.
Compounding Power now gives increased boon duration for each active illusion, up to a maximum of 1%.
Phantasmal Haste is being swapped with Maim the Disillusioned. We feel that this will provide build diversity and allow more players to trait Maim the Disillusioned.
Removed Torment from Maim the Disillusioned.
Illusionary Persona also kills the player, as they are being shattered. This makes more sense, thematically.
Imbued Diversion’s Radius is too large, reduced to 0.
Bountiful Interruption also applies Chilled to the Mesmer whenever an enemy is interrupted.
Improved Furious Interruption’s activation chance to 50% from 100%.
Harmonious Mantras isn’t used enough, all Mantras are now reduced to 1 charge.
Deceptive Evasion now spawns a clone only when no clones are alive. This trait now works while out of combat.
Desperate Decoy now casts Mimic instead of Decoy.
Desperate Decoy renamed to Desperate Mime.
Mimic no longer reflects missiles.
Blade Training no longer reduces the recharge on sword skills.
Blurred Frenzy has had it’s cooldown increased to 20s.
Blurred Frenzy has half cooldown if nothing is evaded.
Arcane Thievery is blockable now.
Phantasmal Fury now affects Clones.
Phantasmal Fury no longer affects Phantasms.
Empowered Illusions no longer affects Phantasms.
Mental Torment now also applies Torment to the Mesmer.
Mender’s Purity now applies to Phantasmal Defender and Phantasmal Disenchanter.
Mender’s Purity no longer affects healing skills.
Medic’s Feedback now casts Temporal Curtain on the Mesmer.
Medic’s Feedback no longer casts Feedback.
Medic’s Feedback has been renamed to Medic’s Curtain.
Signet of the Ether has been changed to no longer apply a passive heal.
Time Warp has been removed from the game.
Portal Entre has been removed from the game.
Portal Exeunte has been changed to an Elite Skill.
Feedback no longer spawns on a target.
Veil now applies 2s Protection for allies.
Veil no longer applies Stealth.
Illusion of Life has been permanently been placed on all Mesmer skill bars.

We truly believe these changes will help improve diversity amongst builds and help improve Mesmer’s in all modes of gameplay. It will also, healthily, improve Mesmer play.

Dungeon bugs

Esplen.3940

Just a UI bug, you’re still in the party.

To fix it, have someone vote kick you out and then re-invite you. The game may think you’re offline in which case you’ll have to go to character select and back.

To tell if the game thinks you’re offline, look in your guild tab. If it says Offline next to your name, you need to relog.

Also, don’t kick and reinvite while inside the dungeon as it MAY reset the dungeon if the person being kicked is the leader.

I highly doubt that GW2 will die when ESO and Wildstar get released. Even if Anet were to do nothing from new in terms of updates to the game (and just did LS) until then, the game will live on.

Your points in this thread have nothing to do with anything. It’s mostly just rambling.

Your first point
You say it’s great that they’re doing free content, but you want more free content, and not just any content, but content that you want. Great. Why not ask for Anet to also give us drinks. But not just any drinks, we should all get the drinks that we enjoy.

Your second point
The leveling is so casual it hurts. You might not like the lower levels, but it’s the same in any game. If you can’t bear through the lower levels, then craft your way through them, or just swap in at dungeons for exp rewards. There are so many options that this isn’t even a complaint. It’s just people (or you, in this case) being adamant.

Your third point
There is no point here. You start off by saying that PvP is great, but then you tangent off to say that there needs to be dynamic stories (cough Living Story, anyone? cough) instead of a Murder simulator.

Wait, so you want dynamic lore in sPvP?

Continuing on, you then go off to say that every update is doing lore, but push people into PvP. In what ways are players getting pushed into PvP? Please, do tell me, because I am not getting pushed into the Heart of the Mists anytime I login.

You then state that things need more looking at. You can say the same thing for anything in existence. There is always room for improvement, making this point null on so many levels.

Why am I bashing you so hard?

You just rambled about nothing and stated that pretty much everything needs to be improved, but don’t worry, because everything is great. it’s just that everything sucks so everything needs to get better. Okay, bye.

Anet forgotten there's underwater gameplay?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

Problems with underwater combat:

3 axis opposed to two (sure, you can jump, but you don’t actually fly, meaning your z axis isn’t particularly used). This actually causes problems such as camera angles, depth perception, and other things. Depth is a kittene, because when we see depth in a video game, it’s usually tied to something such as size and/or position on a plane. However, we don’t see that plane so it’s reliant entirely on size and not everyone has experience with size-relative depth. This can make it confusing when you’re checking your range to see which axis you need to change to be in range.

Camera orientation is stuck in “gravity” oriented. While this makes it easier to know where “up” is, while you’re downed, it makes the fighting very, very hard to do. Water is similar to space (yeah, no, it’s not that similar, but in a virtual reality where there’s no gravity pulling you down…) the only “up” and “down” are defined by you, yourself, meaning that down should (or could) be in relation to how you orient your camera, and not how your camera orients itself. If anything, this can be released as a level-gated thing to help ease new players into it, or it could just be there from the beginning (and will revert to the current camera system upon downing).

Not enough keys for control. Defaulted, you don’t even have enough keys. There’s swim down, swim up, move forward, backwards, left, right, turn left, right. There also needs to be rotate axis of control (see camera section). Of course, this makes there be a ton of keys that aren’t very intuitive to control, but it would help make the combat more fluid for people who like to stay in it.

Disparity in skills because, god knows, we can’t have fields underwater. Oh wait, we do. Now, I understand it’s hard to get ground-target skills without, you know, ground all over the place. But that doesn’t mean there can’t be variations. If there aren’t variations, there should be water-only utility skills. Also, there needs to be more variety in water weapons. 2 weapons is enough for players without weapon swap (ele/engie) even though they only have 1. At least 3 or 4 for players with weapon swap. This allows for fluidity and control of combat based. 3 is a good one for players with weapon swap, as most players don’t typically utilize weapon swapping too much, currently.

Tl;dr: Treat water combat like space and stop trying to force the camera on us.

You realize that the Gem Prices are based off of players. Anet will not change this. If you do, however, need Gems, you can always opt to buy them with real money or wait until 5000/10000 achievement point chests. They both give 400 gems each.

If you want Gold —> Gem prices to drop, ask players to buy Gems with real money and convert it to Gold.

well, you can always roleplay as “the lionguard captured mai trin”, instead of “i captured mai trin”, since the dungeon itself doesn’t have much story, and the final story cutscene takes place outside of it (and isn’t even available).

And kiel gets all the credit for what you do. COUGHTRAHEARNEWITHBOOBSCOUGH

@BackToOP
Regardless, this dungeon is actually very easy and all of your complaints just sound like you whining for the sake of whining. It’s not as if there aren’t 40 threads about what’s wrong with this living story for this person and that person, that and you brought nothing new to the table.

The Goemm’s lab bug? Okay, there are people willing to port you there.

WvW Jp? If you hate dying THAT much, just don’t do it. You don’t NEED to 100% it, and if you do, like psuedo-OCD kicking in, then you’d just do it without complaint.

The dungeon is actually really refreshing. Coming from a zerk Mesmer, I have actually found a reason to change up my build (actually, lack thereof in my case specifically).

Zerking in this dungeon is very, very bad. In fact, I run a spinoff of condi-zerk so I still have no defense, yet I’m one of the tankiest people in all the groups that I run. Of course, I still prefer to have a Guardian in the group just so that Mai is easier, but the dungeon is a SKILL dungeon, not a DAMAGE dungeon. You should be willing to take 1-2 hours for each run (it can go by relatively fast and be ~30-45 minutes, but don’t expect that). It’s better to take it slow and not die than to try and rush it like everything else and die. That’s one of the great things about this dungeon. It punishes you for zerking. Yes, I agree the first 8 hours of me inside the dungeon were painful, but once I started to get the hang of it, it became more and more FUN and EASY. And no, those 8 hours weren’t just 8 hours of me wiping constantly, I finished it 3 times in those 8 hours, which is slow, but it was great practice.

This isn’t just a run and spank dungeon. It’s a dungeon where you need to practice and use your skill as an individual player to help the group proceed. (In the boss fights, you typically don’t res. That says something about the dungeon, but it’s because you’ll put yourself in danger if you try to res. Of course, during Mai and Horrik, you NEED to res, but you can’t res during the barrage.)

Toxic communities existed before LoL. In the MMO industry, it started with minor griefers and moved to extremely competitive games, such as DotA (where the game was extremely elitist) and FPS’s.

From DotA, the players moved to other games, like LoL. The reason why LoL’s community is terrible is because, no matter how hard you try, you fall into their ranks when playing with them nonstop. It’s usually always someone elses fault, so you call them out. But you don’t do it nicely because you’ve had a terrible day where everyone called you out in a very rude manner, so you call them out in a rude manner.

It’s a self-revitalizing (or bashing, in this case) cycle.

In GW2, the community CAN be toxic at times, but it, as a whole, is not toxic. Additionally, the vocal part of the community barely scratches the surface, whereas in LoL the vocal part mirrors the majority of the community itself.

Reason why Competition is a MUST

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

I am back, hopefully intact (I think) and… I RETURN WITH A TRANSLATED OP!

Once we get to max level, what happens? We start to become good at PvP, participate in Events, and become bored. As we become bored (or even if we don’t get bored), we being to question why we play this game.

(That goes for anything we do in life.)

In due time, we begin to question our motives and reasons behind our actions. One never mindlessly continues to repeat the same daily routines without a motive.

This is why a competitive nature is needed. (TN1)

A competitive game keeps a game alive because without having all these problems, they can start saving up for content while the player is caught up or addicted in the game. (TN2)

That being said, I understand that a competitive nature will change the community, but think about it.

What kind of community do we have?

From a player that has played from level 1-80 (TN3), I can tell you that whenever someone goes into a dungeon, if you’re not with your guild, you better fit thepart they need or you’re gone.

Funny enough, it’s taken so seriously over the garbage you loot from the dungeons.

At the end of the day, regardless of how much the developers make it competitive or no, there will always be a need to do something in record time and for maximum profit. (TN4)

What else do you have for PvE? Events… world bosses… All you do is just walk in and do it. There will be others doing it as well, a party isn’t needed, therefore, regardless of the competitive nature, this will not be affected unless developers change the way we do events/open-world PvE.

Let’s move to sPvP.

If it was anywhere near competitive we would actually feel satisfied with our progress in the long run.

Yes, we like to own in PvP, that’s nice, but what happens after? What’s the point in the long run? There is no point!

From what I see, sPvP doesn’t get any money and always stays the same. (TN5)

Besides your standard balance updates, what’s so bad about getting a monthly map? Or new weapons? Or new PvP modes? (TN6)

Yes, it’s always nice having king of the hill, but what about other modes?

Or… just a deathmatch? Why not make a mode that’s deathmatch instead okitteng of the hill?

Keep the king of the hill, but add more game modes. The environment won’t change, people will still not party with bad players.

Others will go join games randomly, while some focus on 1v1 or 2v2.

Believe it or not, the atmosphere won’t change. Except, you’ll have A LOT more people trying to improve.

This will give them, and yourself motivation to keep playing and beating other teams/players. (TN7)

At the end of the day, adding motivation to the things you do is what makes you want to repeat the same thing over and over.

Getting rich for a legendary is cute… and [TN: shiny pretty items] accessories. But like I said, at the end of the day, that’s not going to motivate anyone. (TN8)

Even if you get all of the Legendaries and [TN: shiny pretty items] accessories, yes yes, I’m sure you can name things to do, but lol like I said, no motivation just meaningless and uninteresting chores with no core value. (TN9)

you cant respond by stating something based on “feeling” plz dont.

“The September 2014 Feature Pack is on its way, and we’re extremely excited about the balance changes it will bring!”

“The September 2014 Feature Pack is bringing exciting additions to PvP!”

Most of these are things that players have known about for quite some time. It’s not exciting new things, it’s well-past the expiration date QoL changes that should have made it to the April Feature Pack.

Looks at WvW
WvW Ranks + Abilities + Tournaments + Split Obsidian Sanctum into own map + EotM

Looks at sPvP
sPvP Reward Tracks + Free Tournaments + e-Sports Tournaments + Use PvE skins + Coin Rewards

Looks at precursor crafting
Got me here, although would you really want a precursor crafting that would most likely be the equivalent of making a Legendary without the Precursor… on top of making a Legendary?

Looks at official GvG game-mode
WvW map that got sectioned off for GvG fights, though it’s never used.

Looks at guild capes and guild halls
Capes would only really look good on Humans, Norn, and Sylvari. Additionally, you can already get capes by wearing a Grenth Hood or a few other pieces of clothing to give you a cape-ish feel. Not the same as having a really shiny piece of cloth on your back, flapping with it’s own physics, but I think that’s good enough.

Looks at new zones and dungeons
Dry Tops, Southsun, Labrynthine, Fractals, More Fractals, Aetherblade… yeah, nothing new…

Looks at new weapon, utility, and elite skills
New utilities and healing skills, sure, not much variety, but still something. Also traits. Traits got worked around a bunch (although this can go in the next segment).

Looks at slow and almost non-existent balance updates
They used to be fast. But they’re still… n-… we-.. I’ll give you this one. However that’s only recently, over the 2 years, they’ve done a lot of changing the game, both with the engine, UX, and trait/skill balance.

How is this game doing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

I’m not going to migrate, but this game is getting worse. Arenanet seems to be doing the ostrich approach when it comes to their game. They do what they want and nobody can say anything about it. Sure, they attempt to make some communication, but if it’s not what they want to hear, they ignore it. Also, you have to be really loud because their head is in the sand.

The main focuseseses focii… focus of GW2 Arenanet is currently e-sports (with an unbalanced, flavorless meta), PvE progression through Living Story (extremely slow, bland, re-using old content and shoving players back to old content to progress new content), and WvW Tournaments (in an attempt to keep WvW fresh and engaging, along with more World loyalty).

Of course none of this is working because…

WvW:
Megaservers are one step in the wrong direction for world loyalty. Now, I’m not saying Megaservers are bad. I love them (as long as they don’t give me 10 or less fps), but they do dilute the game and make it harder to say “I LOVE MAH WERLD”. Notice when you see those guild recruitments in town? Did they forget to include their world? Is their world not yours? Fun. At least Global Guilds will be a thing, soon, but that’s still less world loyalty for WvW.

PvE:
Fresh content in the forms of… sections of a new map. Not even a whole map, but just sections. Now, I’m not going to say that we’re not getting ANYTHING, but we’re not getting anything new. After the second patch of Dry Tops, we pretty much got everything there is in it. The third installment added a bit more, but had nothing new in comparison to the second, which was barely more than what was in the first (bar the weapon skins and continuation of Mawdrey).

Mawdrey attempts to force players all over the world to keep it fresh and engaging, which would work if all the Waypoints were borked, but.. they’re not, because Taimi (yeah, her, the PROGENY, not any of our thousands of Asura Pact Commanders or Pact Engineers or Asura Home Instance Krewe’s) was able to single-handedly stop Mordremoth from disabling them all. So people just waypoint near the area, get the item, and go back to whatever they were doing. Also Dungeon, Fractals, and fresh zones are getting no love (Dry Tops is similar to a champ train but instead it’s events for Geodes for Keys for Chests for loots). Wooo, another level 80 zone full of loot trains. It’s not like we have Karka Shell farm in Southsun, Champ Train in Frostgorge, Plinx + More Farms in Cursed Shore. Nope. We don’t have any farms, none at all, not since they nerfed Queensdale farming (which was actually a viable, cheap way of leveling up characters after the horrible trait update [horrible in relation to leveling new characters]).

PvP:
Still no matchmaking, still no new game modes, still no new maps (bar Skyhammer and Courtyard, one of which is available for Arena). Huge imbalance Skyhammer + more. Removal of water (sort of justified, but they really need to rework underwater. Additionally, PvP gets rewards that are used in PvE, instead of getting rewards useful for players in PvP. With the addition of the generic suits, it ends up nullifying the PvP only skins, unless you’re a henekitten LAkitten.

Underwater:
From the beginning this has only been an addition to land combat as opposed to being it’s own combat. The fact that about 10-30% of the game is underwater still baffles me as there are so many problems with the combat. From few finishers to lack of variety, there are problems. The fact that you can’t use all of your utilities underwater means that there are land-only utilities. So why, then, are there no underwater only utilities? Why? Because Arenanet doesn’t care about underwater anymore. They removed the underwater PvP map because of tons of underwater bugs they didn’t want to address and changes to skills. Hmmm, that sounds very healthy. Oh, and sink is fun. It likes to ignore defiance and stability.

EDIT:
This came out longer than I expected, but I can keep going. Keep in mind most of this is all my opinion and should be taken as such.

Unlimited Zenith screwing up weapon system?

The 90% line is currently sitting at ~3,400 AP.

The 50% mark is at ~806-1070 AP.

This means that 50% of all players have 1k or less AP.

40% of all players have 1-3.5k AP.

9% of all players have 3.5k-~8.4k (rank 1000 is near 8.4k).

1000 players have 8.4k-11.7k.

I think it’s safe to say that this system is not ruining the game. It is, however, a fairly new skin and it will be flavor of the month for a while.

Additionally, the numbers I have listed does take into consideration people who play the game and quit or have not played actively recently.

Nike, you do realize that there are other professions that utilize traps, bows, and fight Dragons.

The fact that every profession fights Dragons makes the whole “Dragonhunter” theme feel somewhat impersonal. Especially since there are Rangers (notably mistaken for Hunters constantly both within and outside of the game)… that fight Dragons… with Bows… and Traps.

So when you say Dragonhunter, it just feels like you’re another Ranger trying to be all buddy buddy with Logan Thackeray.

Oh, but you’re a Guardian? Woah there. So what makes you unique?

Oh, you have a skill that gives you wings and let’s you leap at your foes? That’s cute. You’re just making yourself look like a Ranger even more.

So what distinguishes you from a Ranger? The fact that you’re a Guardian? No. You’re not a Guardian anymore. You’re a Rang-… Dragonhunter… among 7 other Professions who all hunt Dragon minions. Okay. What.

And what if you’re not hunting Dragons? What if you’re mosing off in Metrica Province or thwacking some Charr in Ascalon? Oh, you still hunt Dragons? All 0 of them under your belt? Okay, okay, cool.

See, the difference between the Chronomancer and the Dragonhunter, at least in name, is that the Chronomancer gives a unique concept in design and execution.

Chronomancers are all about time-magic. Risk and reward over time. You won’t know if you made the right choice until after the fact.

Dragonhunters are all about… dragon hunting? Except, you know, they’re still hunting dragons alongside everyone else. Everyone.

It’s not strong. It’s basically a necessary evil to have on your traits atm.

Also, clone ambushes aren’t what they’re cracked up to be unless you’re trying to condi burst and even then they take too much preparation.

EDIT:

Going off on Curunen’s traints of thoughts to fix it:
If you’re going to buff the personal ambush of Mesmer, that will address the issue of Ambushes being scaled as if the Mesmer runs Infinite Horizon, but the clone Ambushes are still pretty weak, so the trait almost needs a rider.

I highly doubt that you were at our college[s]. If anything, you were under the impression of being at one college by visiting a krewe out in Metrica Province or being at Rata Sum, which is NOT a college. Additionally, the problems you helped solve were able to be solved by Peacemakers, WHO WERE ON THE WAY, ANYWAYS, but the majority of our people are solving larger problems, such as Dragons.

Plus, making anti-rust G.O.L.E.M.s are the standard of this day and age. You’re a tree, so act like one and leaf us in peace..

Your mother's IQ is so low...

Your mother’s IQ is slow low that she doesn’t even know how to crossthread a micronfluxcapacitor multiphasic unit with a simple dimatrix array power inversion unit equipped with a subsonic alpha wave modulation circuit.

I mean, how human do you have to be not to realize that a simple recalibration of the carbohypothermic intake valve release frees up the injection array subprocessing unit so that it can combocalculate the exact reverberation of the magic stream inversion coil.

::eyeroll::

what a dolt.

Why crossthread it when you can simply multicrossthread it. Also the dimatrix array power inversion has been outdated by the new trimatrix array power inversion which has an exponentially better power inversion capacity. You don’t even need the subsonic alpha stream inversion coil at all, in fact it was proven to slow down the process by tenfold with the new trimatrix array.

There is no need to combocalculate, that’s just wasting your iterations. Simply take a quantum nucleic phasitron and adjust it to entwine into the array. You can get rid of the entire coil and intake valve.

Seriously… who taught you this stuff?

I dont understand how ppl say bonus dmg after a dodge , forces us to dodge offensively. Its just ; play the game , dodge , deal bonus dmg after dodging.

If the skills were faster and less clunky, then maybe. The problem is that some of these skills lock you in place, they are easily predictable, they are a part of your burst (this is notable in PvP and WvW), they are not always stronger than just auto attacking (LOL WHY?).

Almost the entirety of the Mirage traitline works to “improve” these or do something when you dodge, but they give barely noticeable buffs. If we compare this (not to Daredevil) but to Acrobatics (the other dodge traitline), the “only good thing” we get is Renewing Oasis which is an Adept that rivals their GM. Additionally Dune Cloak has hidden power with it’s 20% condi duration (at all times in PvE).

Mirage doesn’t do anything for your clones. It doesn’t do anything for your phantasms. You can argue that it does Infinite Horizon for both of them, but Superspeed on Phants is rarely useful, and clone ambushes are for you, not clones.

You can’t play Mirage by just “dodging when you need to and counterattacking”. That’s like running Daredevil and only dodging when you need to, and getting the attack for free. That would work except you severely hamper your damage output (this example works for both Mirage and Daredevil). As soon as your elite mechanic revolves around dodging, your rotation revolves around dodging. As a Daredevil it’s not too bad because they get Endurance regen up the wazoo (and not just from Daredevil, it’s a thing that was a part of Thief for quite a while). Mesmer gets… Vigor. Mirage gives… a tiny bit of Vigor. Um… what?

Not every profession can even utilize Celestial takes to a greater effect.

Additionally, why would you craft Celestial trinkets? There are ascended celestial trinkets for a reason.

Lastly, you can get CQC from your Home Instance node and Sanctum Sprint. It’s a low chance, but it’s there.
