And Evon, while a businessman, does not look out for citizens. He looks out for profits.
2) Am I the only one who sees ambush skills, a whole new set of abilities only available to Mirage, as well as a whole new dodge mechanic being introduced to Mirage only. ooh and access to an Axe??
We all see it, it’s just absolutely terrible because it offers so little. Yes, we have more, but we don’t have uses for it. Most of the utilities provide us with things we already have, just worse because they have Mirage Mirrors tied to them which justifies (?) them being objectively weaker. The weapon has terrible scaling with both power and condi (you’re better off using Scepter or Sword). The ambushes are all pretty bad, with the good ones being Staff and Scepter. Scepter is pretty weak because it takes too long and the clones have half duration. Staff has a target cap of 5, so.. uh, have fun with that? Also projectiles. Why so many projectiles? Axe, Scepter, and Staff all use projectiles which leave them vulnerable to being avoided (even in PvE!!), destroyed, or even reflected (even in PvE!!).
But hey, we get a dodge that removes our movement so we got that going for us. Oh wait, no sorry they give us our movement back but only if we run forward and it takes up our Minor GM slot.
That reminds me of something. Thief used to gain 50% of a dodge (25% of endurance bar) when dodging. This meant they had 3 dodges if they took Acrobatics (it was a Minor). When the HoT pre-patch hit, they removed that trait because they “gave it back” as Daredevil’s third dodge. Of course, that was built into the Minor Adept that gives the class mechanic. They didn’t lose it, only to regain it as a Minor Grandmaster. Admittedly, having 3 dodges + each dodge giving 50% of a dodge meant you’d have 5.5 dodges from 3. It felt weird losing something only to be given it back as a new class mechanic. Hmmmm… well at least they don’t also lose a Minor GM.
Just because it is not on your Chronomancer Elite Spec level doesn’t mean it is worse than a core or does not give new things to play with..
You are just so short sighted.. but i guess that is a natural response when being disappointed
If you’re so broad/far-sighted, please explain to me how Mirage is good or an upgrade to Mesmer.
The literal only upgrades I see are: Illusion Retarget via IAmbush and Axe3. 150 Condition Damage + 300 Expertise vs Chaos’ Conditional 100-250 Condition Damage + 0-495 Expertise.
The Ambushes are DPS losses if focused on and only Staff (not a good sustained damage weapon) and Scepter (get rooted on a spec about being able to move while casting whew!) can utilize theirs (albeit very awkwardly).
I think maybe, just maybe, IOU’s existed before TV.
Thus rendering invisible bags useless?
Except items like this won’t come back… at all. So you can hold it for as long as you want and the price will go up up up up up… it’s just a matter of how badly you want to liquidate it.
Except that it is still available now. I can think of several limited time items whose value dropped significantly before the end of their run, and even after, that I probably should have sold while there still was a profit to be made. (Some SAB skins, molten tonic recipe, mini southsun wind rider…)
Yes, on the long run the price will (likely) go up, but before that, it may drop well below at what it is now, so it could be a very long wait.
Actually, it’s very unlikely that the price will drop (and stay dropped).
Let’s take a loot at a fancy term called scarcity
This item is a great example of scarcity, because even if the skin isn’t “that good” as some people might say, it has one of the lowest drop rates (see: Molten Alliance Jetpacks).
Why? The droprate is pitifully low in a dungeon that caters to competent players. Keep in mind that with every game, the majority of players are not competent.
So, what do we end up with? An item that rarely drops in a dungeon that is not run super often.
Slap on the fact that the dungeon is only available for 2 weeks (as opposed to SAB which was a full month and was grind-able, especially for skins on an ~15m for 3 chest basis).
I’ll let you figure out where the price will end up, though, because, hey, I’m just a troll.
Don’t run 10/30/0/30/0. If you’re doing Phantasm, run 10/10/0/25/25 or 10/15/0/25/20 for maximum dps (second one for solo, bleed stacks will help out).
If you’re doing shatter, run, for uber dps, 10/30/0/0/30 or 20/20/0/0/30.
Keep in mind, that base direct damage, Mesmers are the weakest in the game. Once you trait, you become really strong (your nuke isn’t quite as fast as thief/warrior, but you can down an enemy ridiculously fast, nonetheless).
Also, keep in mind that non-Shatter Mesmers CANNOT utilize Sigils of Force(or Night / XXX Slaying) because they have little to no direct damage.
Sigils of Accuracy are viable choices on Phantasm (and even Shatter) builds, since they are confirmed to work on Phantasms (and Clones) with a recent change.
Half a bag? Either you have an 8 slot bag or you are about to be spammed with RNG Hate.
Finally someone who understands logic.
Did you toss in the exotics or sell them back?
I’ve been throwing in rares, and I’ve thrown in 200+ rares (~50+ tosses) and have sold all my exotics which in turn allow me to throw in more.
I purchased 150 rares to use and sold my exotics which allowed me to buy 150 more. It’s an endless cycle for me right now and I’m enjoying myself.
If you truly had that much gold, why not just buy the Precursor?
I see everyone complaining about the new dodge, I honestly don’t think that this is the problem with Mirage, you get an awesome elite that makes up for the leap, the problem lies in other places like the lack of movement speed, a fairly mediocore new weapon with messy animations/mechanics (why the kitten is it an Axe to begin with?) and Infinite Horizon being close to useless unless you play condi or use sword for the daze.
Woah run-on sentence.
Main problem (imo) with the dodge: You don’t move. Saying that it’s not a big deal because we get Superspeed is a problem. Why? The Superspeed is a consolation prize. It’s our Minor Grandmaster. It’s not built into the dodge. Also, it doesn’t work when doing anything except running forward (which prevents us from sidestepping while casting, thereby negating the point of being able to cast “while dodging”).
But you get an elite skill that makes up for it! I’m sorry, but it’s not very good game design to “give” players a worse version of something they already have and then ask them to take a skill on their bar (effectively taking away our Elite skill) to compensate. Now I’m not saying that Jaunt is bad, but if your point is that the dodge sucking is made up for by the Elite, then you’re actually building my counterpoint for me. The point isn’t to have a mechanic that forces you to run something to compensate. It’s to give you more options. Being asked to run an elite to make up for lost movement is self-defeating.
The lack of movement speed is not an issue with this spec. It provides plenty of in-combat mobility (which Mesmer already has plenty of access to) and is being released in a spec with Mounts. The only game mode where lack of movement speed ends up being a problem is s/tPvP and can be accounted for with Runes (same deal with normal Mes).
The new weapon is messy, but it’s mostly due to a lack of scaling (power) and low condition output. Fun note: You do more damage with Power based Scepter than Power based Axe. You also do more Condition Damage. It being Axe is meaningless. What you should focus on is that it’s a mainhand weapon. What weapon we get doesn’t change anything, just the skin of what we use. It could be a Pistol and it would still be bad. Sure, I don’t like Axe skins, but that’s an opinion (and has nothing to do with why the Axe has a bad skillset).
Infinite Horizon is bad even if you play condi or use Sword (dazes don’t stack duration, and it’s really hard to stagger a leap off of ai commands). Also, the Sword Ambush is only good because it’s a leap, not because it’s a daze.
Final statement: The only thing that Mirage gives us that’s actually useful is illusion retarget and it’s on a 30/10/8 second cooldown for Utility/Axe/TraitedAxe respectively. A separate complaint (of mine) is that the utility should be slightly better, give it charges (even if they each have 30s cooldowns) because retargeting every 30s is… uh… a bit sloppy, at best.
are you kidding??? the normal human reaction is 200ms so being able to drop 2-3 clones in a second means any human will take at minimum 600 ms to identify the real Mesmer. Now factor in the ability to swap places with the clone and invisibility and then dodge clones this becomes an insane number, now factor in all this together and on a continuous basis over 60 seconds a human would need to identify and attack the correct target once every 1.5 seconds continuous to stay sustainable vs any other target except thief. And even at that you will only successively land an attack once every 3 attacks. Name one class that burns a Mesmer down without being a 1 shot spec? Oh i dare your to play Mesmer if you haven’t in spvp its like being a small god.
Step 1: Press Ctrl + T.
Step 2: Press T.
Step 3: Cast skill.
There MAY be Mounts in the future, but, again, there’s no point. And you have your Brooms, Sonic Tunneling Devices, and Tonics!
I mean… if MoR has the best hp/s that’s fine, imo, because you’re not attacking for 25% of the time, meaning you’re dropping your dps by about 10-20% (not actually 25% because you can use it when you’re in the middle of your low damage skills, such as auto attacks while waiting for phants/other skills).
“If Anet can’t fix Mirage, then please let Mesmers gain 1 Gem whenever you grab a Mirage Mirror in combat in PvP. That’s the only way people will play Mirage.”
Or something.
If you’re not man enough to have butterflies around you, just imagine you cutting them apart with your skills. >.> They are exploding mid-air.
You forgot the ((DELETE-ME)) Achievements.
You say that as if trash fights last long enough for you to even ramp dps. Your ToT and WoC are going to be on cd between trash fight encounters in dungeons and sword autos + warden pull/warden is actually enough “cleave” to finish the encounter.
Now the real challenge: Map completion.
Ahhhh! CongRats!
Now you can try and get to 80 only from the Tutorial
Make me proud! But I do believe that you do deserve a title for such a challenge.
You mean like this? (I have an Experience Scroll, but I will not use it on this character.)
It’s okay, all my events are 100%, the only thing I dislike is that the infinite achievement will ruin my 100% streak. WHYYYYYY!
I understand where you’re coming from. I assumed the Living Story would bring forth story based off of the current lore/stories ingame as opposed to creating new stories from nothing. There are hundreds of untold stories ingame yet Arenanet insists upon creating a new tale out of nothing. In fact, a lot of the Living Story doesn’t fit in the lore of the GW universe, but what can we do? Retcon the makers of the game?
Guys… Yes i think mesmer dmg is low in pve . Yes i feel some ambush skills are underwelming, yes im sad mirage is a condi spec i rather prefer power, BUT:
You guys wanted to ambushes to solve mesmer low power dps. Then you mention GS, then you mention clone ambushes… It makes 0 sense
I think the reason why they’re underwhelming is that they are all balanced around your clones casting them as well.
Overall, I think they’re too slow and balanced around ideas instead of applications.
Look at the ambushes. They’re all fairly weak by themselves (even the Scepter one). They almost NEED clones to do something meaningful, so instead look at what each weapon is trying to accomplish. And then you get to Power weapons which have really awkward applications.
Additionally, if you take the current condi spec and you slap on Mirage, you can actually lose some condi duration because it’s easy to upkeep 7+ boons if your chrono-sharer is running chaos. Other than that, it’s a straight buff, outside of the utilities almost being locked bar elite. (Keep in mind, the only “flexible” slot is Reflect and that’s used because Condi Mes is a meme build that’s used when you want Reflects and don’t trust your Chronos. The idea that it’s considered “viable” as opposed to Power Mes which has higher DPS is silly, especially since the Power Mes can also bring Reflect without significantly hurting it’s DPS is silly.)
Lastly, your tl;dr brings up points that you didn’t write about, so it seems like you did a little skip and a jump to get there. Those points are definitely still valid, but they aren’t pertinent to the discussion at hand. I’m also not saying that Power Mesmer DPS needs to get fixed, it’s just awkward being given tools that don’t actually fulfill a job.
Tl;dr: My complaint with the ambushes is similar to the Phantasmal Sworsdman giving 8 Might without players given the relevant traits to synergize with it. It’s out of place, and doesn’t have the context to make sense. That’s how Mirage ambushes feel, EVEN the condi ones.
Yes, there is a recent program that allows multi-boxing, auto-boting and a few other features in it on a website with which I forgot the name. It was just recently opened to the public for a price, but I’m just surprised that Anet hasn’t gotten wind of it as the website has been posted on their own forums.
People can and should (in my honest opinion) apply my point to these chests in general.
No, they are not causing inflation. Yes they do give a lot of gold, but they give it over the course of a long time.
So then why not give you all your retroactive chests on day one?
Well, I went over this in another thread, which can be found here.
If you are going to read that, keep in mind that 90% of players have less than 4000 achievement points, so my point is slightly nullified.
However, to reiterate the point I wrote of over there, if this chest (and things like Celestial Armor/Charged Crystal Quartz) was/were obtainable immediately with no delay upon the day of the patch, then inflation will occur. This is pretty much guaranteed.
Why?
Demand. Demand for T6 mats would rise pretty high. Currently, T6 demand has stabilized to what it was before the patch, but on the day of the patch (with the new Zephyr Reward Chests) the price of T6 mats skyrocketed to ~700% (looking at you, Gossamer, looking at you).
Imagine if people were also able to make Celestial armor immediately.
Imagine if people were to get free gold off of chests to fuel their drive for items.
The prices would have jumped and probably would stay high for a lot longer due to a lot of players wanting mats and some players wanting it now versus others waiting it out, and then caving in and buying.
Anet did a smart move with the time-gating. In regards to the Charged Quartz time gating, if there was no time-gate on that, then there would be no point to the home instance node (which has a chance of giving a Charged Quartz). In regards to the Achievement Chests… well, it’s nearly impossible to get 500 points in a single day, so unless you link a fully HoM’ed GW1 account, you’re not going to be a candidate for 2 chests in one day, which means this time-gate doesn’t affect players after this mad-rush of chests.
Just some more food for thought.
Phantasmal Haste makes Phantasms attack faster.
Illusionist Celerity makes all Illusion-summoning skills have a lower cooldown.
They work together and as intended.
If I have iDuelist with neither traited…
Cooldown of skill: 20 seconds.
Cooldown of iDuelist attack: 6 seconds.
With Illusionist Celerity:
Cooldown of skill: 16 seconds.
Cooldown of iDuelist attack: 6 seconds.
With Phantasmal Haste:
Cooldown of skill: 20 seconds.
Cooldown of iDuelist attack: 4.8 seconds.
With both:
Cooldown of skill: 16 seconds.
Cooldown of iDuelist attack: 4.8 seconds.
I would recommend not running GS unless you’re against a boss where ranged is effective (Jade Maw, bad groups on final Chaos, Trident for Jellyfish, etc). Sword/sword + /focus will be your core, typically, although if you want that extra dps, /torch is better than /focus.
Swap the GM for Power Block since you can AoE interrupt with Sword4, Focus4, or switch it to Mental Anguish for bonus shatter damage if and when you shatter (rarely).
Dueling should be 1/3/1, there’s basically no flexibility here.
As for utility skills, Signet of Illusions isn’t necessary in PvE unless you’re trying to solo something too difficult that ends up one shotting your illusions (note illusions don’t typically get one shot in PvE, because they aren’t the focus target).
I’d recommend: Signet of Domination if you’re comfortable and can hold it for dps boost, otherwise Decoy or Defender are decent. Disenchanter can be useful in certain scenarios, as well, but I wouldn’t slot it because I’d rather do and forget.
Signet of Inspiration is also kind of useless on this build, because you’re not generating any useful boon to share. See the above recommendations, but if you’re 100% confident in your ability to stay alive (note: in T4s, good luck), run Signet of Midnight. If you need a Signet to activate for Distortion, it will be this one and it doubles as a stunbreak. Try not to use Signet of Dom.
The edited build
Also carry a focus. Focus4 paired with Power Block is just free dps on a skill you should be using on trash.
Lastly: If you end up soloing Chaos final boss, Staff is better than GS if survivability is your objective. Don’t ask why I know this.
Air sigil is a 1.1 co-efficient. Fire is a 0.85 co-efficient, they can crit, and they have a base damage.
Using base Power, they can deal 3700 damage on an enemy with no armor. Assuming both of them activate and they don’t crit.
You play an alt and don’t roll in combat because you don’t want to spawn a clone to hit that unaggroed Firefly next to you.
You realize that this will be available until the end of time. You don’t need to get them right now. You can also purchase them with gold if you don’t want to get Keys.
So what does chill do, perhaps it’s worth checking how that works given we can check that at any point in game.
If chill makes a 3s cool down ability take 5s to recharge then we know alacrity should be making a 5 second cool down ability take 3s to recharge.
Assuming you’re chilled forever, 5s cooldown will take 15s to complete.
Assuming you’re Alacrity[ied?] forever, 5s cooldown will take 3s to complete.
Instead of thinking about it as a %, think about it like this:
Every second in Alacrity reduces your CD by 1.66s.
Every second in Chill reduces your CD by 0.33s.
Every second in neither reduces your CD by 1s.
They negate each other but are not actually inverse (because, you know, having 3x shorter CD’s would be kind of ridiculous).
The problem with Riposte (bar the line projectile on cancel, ‘cause that’s a whole other can of worms) is for me that you can interrupt the damage portion by dodging after the block. If the damage was instant and the clone was after a cast, I’d be happy because then I could intentionally cancel the clone when I have 3 phants out but keep the block (and damage).
Heck, if it was like Deja Vu where you could recast it for the second part that would be nice, too. (Not recast the block, but cast the Clone + Damage portion instantly at will for a few seconds.)
WvW titles are shown to enemies in WvW instead of your name.
PvE titles are shown in WvW and PvE.
Therefore, WvW titles are shown to enemies in PvE instead of your name, you just can’t see NPC’s screens.
Tremor is disabled you can’t even select it.
FAN BOY SAYS IT’S BAD!!!! uh oh…
Don’t we basically have that in Illusions line with “Phantasms attack more often”?
But that stacks with Alacrity, so you can make them have even shorter attack animations. All you have to do is not give Alacrity to your teammates.
Maybe I’m not, either.
All I know is I had a terrible time when I worked with all females.
Work doesn’t tend to be all play.
Games, however, should.
Not necessary in an expansion with mounts, tbh.
Probably thinking more PvP/WvW but with access to superspeed, don’t count on it.
The access to superspeed is trivial and shouldn’t actually be considered when thinking of the speed of this spec. That’s like saying that nobody needs swiftness because they can dodge for bonus speed.
Additionally, 25% speed in WvW is useless because everyone can and should stack swiftness. Paired with sword ambush leaps and focus swiftness you can easily move around the map and still end up in the weapon set you want to be in.
For PvP there is Rune of the Lynx (although that’s a bandaid).
The queen didn’t get kidnapped and if an amazing story with no holes is so easy, can you please make a story in GW2 that coincides with the lore (without retcons, mind you)?
But if it was to stay this way, maybe the CDs need to be reworked a bit, since the heal is pretty much spammable now.
I mean so can Mirror… especially traited.
I don’t know if it is worth taking both idefender and ienchanter just for the sake of shattering them and reducing cooldown.
By taking the GS trait and illusion line. You already have mirror blade and izerker on pretty low cooldown. Shattering 3 phantasms give you 6% cdr, which is about 1 sec. It is really not that big of a deal. Considering in a real fight situation, you also need to spend a lot of time on staff kiting and supporting.
It is after all an adept trait. Not build defining in any sense but some nice extra is you like to shatter your phantasms.
It’s not percentage reduction. It’s 2s per Phant.
This is why I basically skipped out on the entirety of flame and frost. And guess what, none of flame and frost is permanent as far as I know. (outside of the one mini and the weapons)
Jetpack, Recipes, Sentinel’s stat (Azurite), Titles, World Tweaks (Refugees in Lion’s Arch and the progression to Southsun’s story).
Also, in regards to people saying that new players will be ripped off for not getting free, limited content, should we also push in every holiday each time someone makes an account? Honestly, these monthly limited contents are the EQUIVALENT to monthly holiday events, WITHOUT BEING TIED TO A REAL LIFE HOLIDAY. Think of it as such, and then move on with your life.
If you didn’t like Wintersday, so sad. If you didn’t participate because it wasn’t permanent, that’s not ANet’s fault.
If you didn’t like Flame & Frost, so sad. If you didn’t participate because it wasn’t permanent, that’s not ANet’s fault.
Actually, they take dyes, they’re just a different “material” than most clothes. On some of my characters, with their helms dyed Midnight Ice, the entire wreath turns near-pure blue-black. You’ll have to find colors similar to the expected color, but not quite. I’m not sure if you need it to be more pure or dull, but you can play around with it to find the right dye.
I much prefer fighting the dredge suit over the ice elemental. Especially in higher difficulties. Those extra ice eles cause all kinds of problems whereas the dredge suit has only a couple of very easy to dodge moves. And you can reflect his bombs back at him for huge damage.
And if he’s overheated while you do it…
I think the sunday trash has come out of hiding from during the week to give us the white right message about how the game works.
We must all obey the sunday trash!
Mr…. Evon Gnashblade?
If you’re a Chronomancer, don’t use Sig of Domination. The Alacrity gained from Wells will do more damage (paired with the actual damage from the wells, along with the conditions applied) to the breakbar then the stun.
If you do a simple ToT + F5 → TW + All Wells, almost every breakbar will have broken.
The WORLD has progressed.
You aren’t reading at all. Do you not understand the concept of making everything someone’s personal story? It is the same concept that’s been in every game. All of these events happen in the player’s eyes. The world progresses through a player’s experience.
Actually, I feel like you’re not reading. You take one little snippet out of the entirety of my posts and relate your entire argument over that one little snippet. But, I’ll play along. Yes, currently, we, the PLAYERS are PLAYING INSPECTOR KIEL’S STORY. I’m sorry, it’s sad, but it’s true. So, Inspector Kiel is about to finish her Personal Storyline Quest. She’s about to get her reward and move onto the next quest. I think the reward is going to be a promotion in the Lionsguard. That’s great for her! Oh, by the way, did I mention that when she progresses, she’s not going to try and do old Personal Storyline quests again? Not that she can, but I don’t think she will.
Again, there is no reason to remove content when it can happen through a player’s experience. A video game makes up it’s own rules, and the rules of the living story are stupid compared to a personal one. Do you understand?
I agree, when I fight a mob, I don’t think the mob should be removed from existence. I think I should continue to be able to beat up the mob while it’s dead because it is content that happens in my, a player’s, experience. A video game makes up it’s own rules, and the rules of the monsters are stupid compared to what I think. Do you understand? (Note: this is a straw man because your argument in this paragraph is a post hoc ergo propter hoc)
The only thing a living story accomplishes is to make content limited. It does not make any more sense than a personal world.
Yeah, I agree, when we elect a president, the presidential election should continue for years to come because even though other people enter the world, they should still have a say in the past. I agree entirely. (Note: you don’t even have an argument here, so I just applied a fallacy.)
-Yours truly
A Tired Esplen
Oh, you mean skills to buy? Utility skills won’t really make a difference at the beginning, aim for Venoms, Signets, Stealth, and Scorpion Wire. Slot on Signets and Stealth. Don’t use the Signets unless you know what you’re using it for (the teleporting signet as a stunbreak AND teleport, not just a teleport). Don’t use the Stealth unless you’re running away, running through, or reviving someone.
Rotations, you can probably run D/D and spam Death Blossom. That’s always fun to level up, especially when paired with Caltrops. Lure as many mobs as you can, drop Caltrops and Death Blossom for days.
If you want a safer method of killing, run S/P. Use Pistol 5 to blind everything, then cleave with your sword auto attacks. Feel free to use Pistol Whip if you want (S/P3).
D/P is also safe, but since it’s single target (soon to be double target) it’s not that “good” for leveling up. Definitely is fun with shadow shot. Remember to use Heartseeker when the enemy is below 25%. If they’re at 50% or lower, it’s still good, but not always the best option (at least for now).
The reason why D/D and S/P are good is because they’re AoE (yes 2 daggers is AoE, wooo) so you can lure a few things together (or more with D/D) and then smack ’em all down gaining tons of exp (not really). It simply makes finishing Hearts or Events faster and allows you to progress instead of fighting things one by one, which thematically is cool, but really ends up just being inefficient and tedious.
