Along aboard the traiiiiinnnnnnnn!
NERF NERFFFFFFFF
You know what else could give you an aerial tour of Tyria? How about this system where you find these places, typically hard-to-reach, and then when you get to them, you can activate them to look around the surrounding area with a camera. That sounds cool. I think it should be called “Viewpoint” or… “Vista”.
The Rapiers are used more as fencing weapons instead of sharp swords. Of course, this makes sense as they ARE meant to stab, not slash.
If you watch Mai when she attacks, she does a standard fencing attack that looks similar to a Blurred Frenzy (or 100b), but is slightly modified.
So, everyone and their mother has made a Zojja clone, but what about Kudu? Why no love for him?
Anyways, I know he has no gear, I made him a few weeks ago, and never leveled him up. He’s an Engineer in accordance to the lore (where he’s an Engineer), but his armor is T3 Cultural Light (with a flipped chestpiece) colored Red and Black, which means I can either be true to my class, or be closer to my looks.
Oh, Kudu, why you kitten me? Also, it’s impossible to get his branded look, at the moment. Yay…
And I'd like to say thatI worked on this by hand using what few pictures we have of Kudu on the interwebs.
No, it won’t. There just wouldn’t be an invuln shatter anymore. It would however, give Stability/Regen with BD and Reflect with MoF.
So because Elementalist, Necromancer, and Guardian all retain all retain their skills flavors (that is to say, Elements are still elements and can now be overloaded in addition to their normal thing; virtues are still virtues, but their actives are now AoE oriented by default; and Reaper’s Shroud becomes a more melee power oriented version of Death Shroud), F4 will switch from being a defensive trait to an offensive trait.
Seems legit.
I think the problem with threads like these is that they have less than a month before they’re releasing PoF. This may sound like something “really easy to make” but we don’t know ANet’s backend spaghetti. Even if it were something easy to implement in that system, it would usually take over a month to push through the pipeline.
Yeah, it’s great that you have your own cool idea about how to make Mirage better, but in a realistic sense, the only thing that’s going to happen is tuning and maybe some minor trait movements or updates.
Sorry, I don’t mean to pick on you specifically, but there are a ton of threads like these that have been popping up since the first preview and it’s not actually useful discussion outside of theoretical “what could have been”.
I think it’s fine. If you run Sword/Shield, you can give yourself Chaos Armor, which helps if you’re running Staff as backup (Chaotic Dampening).
Other than that, Chaos/Ethereal Fields are kind of niche in their usage and most teammates would prefer Water/Fire/Smoke for blasts.
I believe it is the actual phantasams skills charging faster.. not your ability to spit out phantsams.
This is sort of correct.
Phantasmal Haste affects the attack cooldown on Phantasms.
Aka, your Phantasms will have a lower recharge on THEIR attacks.
Aka, Phantasmal Haste does not directly affect your skills.
Aka, working as intended.
It is a solution but it is also trolling in it’s execution. Don’t blame me for the way to fix it, I was just giving a solution that’s already in the game (or out of the game for the second one).
If you are an Elementalist or an Engineer, it is intentional.
But I’m a Mesmer roamer! Scholar runes are still overly priced for a relatively useless effect on me!
No but really, what’s your build? I guarantee you that there’s a better slot set for anything you’re doing.
I run full zerk with ruby orbs or full valk with centaur for swiftness.
If I’m not going full zerk, then I’m running rampagers with lyssa (offensive bunker build, doesn’t work so hawt in WvW).
If I’m not running rampagers, I’m running rabid with 3 2x combos for 30% condi-duration.
If I’m not running rampagers, I’m running knight/soldier combo with mercy runes.
If I’m not running knight/soldier combo, I’m running full giver’s with +40% boon duration.
If I’m not running full giver’s, I’m running full zerk with scavenging for +gold find (don’t tell CoF people, hue).
If I’m not running full zerk, I’m running full zerk with ruby or- oh wait…
Shadows, Render Distance and Render Sampling are the things that hit the game the hardest, after that, there’s Shaders, Textures… and pretty much everything else.
You can always optimize the game via the graphics options, or you can just run it at max and take the fps dips. It’s your call.
Start of fight combo: Weapon Clone + Dodge Clone -> F5 -> TW -> Mimic -> Well of Recall -> Well of Action -> Well of Recall -> F5 (reset) -> TW -> Mimic -> Well of Recall -> Well of Action -> Well of Recall -> Phantasms -> AA
I count 26s Quickness + 12s Alacrity. Not sure exactly how long it takes to execute the combo, which will affect whether we can summon Phantasms during F5 and therefore how long we delay the start of our DPS. Unaffected by Quickness, I think we can execute all those utilities in ~2.75 seconds, and we should have at least 5s of Chronoshift to do it in. iCap has a super long channel time and we probably won’t proc it, so we’ll want to start off with our non-shield weapon set and summon its Phantasm during Chronoshift instead (and then summon another after the reset).
You’re going to want to waste your shatters while casting your Wells (which, along with Mimic, should get cast pretty darn quickly with Quickness) and then cast a Phantasm at the end (do Phants get destroyed when you break F5? if yes, idfk, otherwise idfk). You get bonus Alacrity when shattering and since you have IP, you’ll get yourself 3s of Alacrity in 1.5s (0.5s band-aid internal cooldown which is now “working as intended” T_T).
It’s not much, but why not get more? Although if breaking F5 returns your boons to where they were when you cast it, don’t bother since you won’t get anything out of it.
Hey, just because you’re outnumbered all the time doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to be in last place…
Just look at NSP. :D

And, they have given everyone who was on the fence about buying one a couple of weeks notice to get a fully functional tag at a discount. Well done.
Snabbed one a few days ago. I haven’t used it in case I could have picked my color. Now, I can use it… not that I need to.
They have the asuran dodge, not a roll. It’s intentional.
….they already have the best gold sink ever…..GEMS!
Gems don’t destroy Gold. When you buy Gems with Gold, that Gold is going to another player Selling the Gems. There is the transaction fee that destroys a lot of gold but its only 15%, but that applies to all over the TP.
Gem store has a 30% conversation sink. 15% Gold —> Gems and 15% Gems —> Gold.
Don’t feel too bad I didn’t even get that. I see everyone else getting nice exotics, all I got was a few boosters and some gathering tools lol. I would gladly take some new pvp skins over that.
Congratulations on opening the 100 reward chest. Tomorrow you’ll get a PvP chest inside your chest (iherdulaikchestzbro).
Back on topic: Can we please stop complaining about free stuff?
Who actually enjoyed Darkmoon Faire after the 2nd time?
I’m fine with people farming champs. It means the prices of the koolio skins will drop.
Until then, I’ll just be abusing gold gains…
Also, keep in mind that it’s a bannable offense to report wrongly (multiple times).
I was taking 4-4.5k shatter hits, something gonna get nerfed hard I suspect. Maybe that’s normal? I don’t know I havnt mesmered for like 2years.
It’s normal considering how much damage everyone is doing now.
12k backstabs on a 4 to 5s effective CD if landed…. shatter hits don’t seem that unbalanced to me.
But they’re Mesmers! They need to deal 1k with Shatters on pure glass cannon!
Not every trait is fantastic for everyone. Some players will use the time given by endure pain to prevent their doom, even if you can’t. The master traits are good enough to compensate even if you don’t like the grandmasters.
This is a good post. You can also apply Defiance Stance when it ends to heal up or just use Endure Pain after Defy Pain for laughs.
Is there any intention of making this an actual available weapon skin ingame?
I’m a fan of one-handed swords, especially those of the wooden variety. I have every wooden sword from wintersday, 4 wooden swords (Wooden Sword of Fire, Water, Air, Earth, going to add Generosity a sweet old-school reference after I finish making the rest of my skins Exotic Berserker), 2 Ebon Vanguard Swords for Roleplay/looks, 2 Ghastly Swords (Sigil of Night synergy is so nice), and a few more swords, all of which are exotic (except the wintersday which are still in skin form).
In case you’re wondering, my main two swords are Wooden Sword of Air in mainhand and Wooden Sword of Water in offhand. I also use Ghastly Swords when it’s nighttime for obvious reasons.
So… when I saw the pointy stick, I was absolutely, positively, drastically in love at first sight. Is there any, any, any possibility of this skin becoming available to players?
Thanks in advance. (I’ll post a screenshot of all my swords in inventory after sorting my alts inventories.)
You only need to cast Mimic before closing the Portal.
In regards to the debate on Personal Banks/Gold Inventories and practical uses.
Some players like to get into the spirit of things and limit their characters (or have different characters each having different wallets). By making the account-bound wallet, you no longer create that divide.
“Oh, I’m a new Sylvari, fresh from the tree. Look at me running around with 523 Laurels, 2931 Gold, and all of these Dungeon Tokens. Weeeeee!”
That’s just an example, but it is a playstyle. Some people enjoy having separate wallets, and not one gigantic wallet. It is not tricking your mind into thinking you have less money than you really have. It is playing each character individually, as opposed to one whole account entity.
The problem is that developers, with the introduction of the Account Wallet stated that to have an individual wallet, simply use a personal guild bank to denote each character’s gold (not quoted word for word). Now, with a limit being placed, players who may have more than 500g are being told you’re an edge case and your outdated playstyle has been completely phased out. Is that fair?
This isn’t for me to decide, nor do I fit in either category (I don’t mind having an account wallet, but I wouldn’t mind being able to “deposit” or “withdraw” to a personal wallet, either) but I just wanted to clear up some confusion on the party that is saying that the playstyle is dumb, unfounded, and/or has no real merits except to foster/nurture a psychological problem (not quoting anyone, simply extrapolating from the context). Which it isn’t. And it doesn’t… in some (most?) cases.
But comparing it to getting 2 full dungeon armor sets, you can easily tell which one takes less effort and time.
Wow, you must show me this time travel device which you used to know the fractals that are to come out.
Also, the margonites are still humans during the Fall of Abbadon.
That is incorrect, we know Lord Jadoth was at least transformed prior to Abbadon’s fall and possibly others.
Get lore. xD
Also nobody knows anything for sure about the future…. but I am probably right xD
Get lore. xD
Lord Jadoth, also referred to as The General, was once a human Margonite alive before the Exodus of the Gods. For unknown reasons, he was hunted down by the Forgotten and exiled to the Crystal Sea. During his exile, when the Forgotten’s armada approached his refuge, he called upon Abaddon for salvation and became the first Margonite blessed with magic by Abaddon in 1 BE.
Before the Exodus of the Gods, the Margonites were a seafaring people who chose to worship Abaddon exclusively, rather than all six gods.
——-
In Year 0, they were imprisoned in the Realm of Torment along with their god, the defiled temple, and all other traces of Abaddon. Since that time
their constant exposure to Abaddon’s power has transformed them into the demons encountered in Elona.
So no, Jadoth isn’t a demon during the fall of abbadon, he’s simply an empowered Margonite (think Claw of Jormag but instead of having Abbadon create Jadoth, Abbadon infused Jadoth).
And stating that “nobody knows what will happen so I am right” is such a huge logical fallacy that we might as well say that the Thaumanova Fractal involves all the remaining Elder Dragons because…
nobody knows anything for sure about the future…. but I am probably right xD
You can purchase Quartz from the trading post for ~50c. That means that one full set of armor is 75s before counting the other materials (ore, silk, etc).
I doubt Rebound is going to make Alacrity useless.
Think about it… your next skill is now at 75% cooldown. If you maintain Alacrity, it drops to 50% cooldown.
Alacrity is still potentially stronger than Rebound since it drops the cooldown of a spell by 66% (if maintained for 66% of the spells cooldown). Rebound does not need to be maintained and…
You know what, think of Rebound as Mimic. Does Mimic make Alacrity useless? Does it outshadow the concept of Alacrity? Do we not need to become Chronomancers because we have Mimic?
The color and butterflies and other things have to do with chaos and the mesmer class… It is somewhere here in the forum… Understand the meaning behind it and you won’t be so cynical of it.
Purple is [generally] a color of royalty and butterflies are a symbol of chaos (relative to the chaos theory, think the butterfly effect).
Mesmers in gw2 are generally upper class (poise and elegance is not typically found in the lower class) and manipulate chaos.
Simple layman summary of the longer post regarding what they meant.
I’m assuming that you made it a PvP skin and then deposited it. In this case, you’ll find it at a PvP Locker in the Heart of the Mists (click on the Crossed Swords at the top left of your screen).
You mean… like… changing your armor and traits? GASP!
Most people are so accustomed to current MMO standards that all MMO’s must meet those standards.
No endgame treadmill? THIS GAME SUCKS.
No expansion in the works? THIS GAME SUCKS.
No easy to work for shiny? THIS GAME SUCKS.
No spoonfeeding? THIS GAME SUCKS.
No new dungeon every 2 months? THIS GAME SUCKS.
No new gear for treadmill? THIS GAME SUCKS.
Meanwhile Asura still hold their GS.
This. It’s height discrimination, I say.
If anything, we should be one of the few to not hold our weapons since we have to make up for our physical strength with our mind, be it through gadgets/technology or mental prowess. Hmph, clearly the Human Bookahs at ANet didn’t think it through.
Assassin’s is cheaper and you can always stat swap later.
Playing an asura mesmer - This only annoys me because it seems like the default choice of someone bored with their main class and wants to try something different.
But… Asura Mesmer is my main class. I didn’t pick it for the PvP advantage…
Staff S/P see Bamf Joe for shatter combinations. Just be careful with new sword3, along with light aura instead of retal (sword3 is only 1 leap for you).
Wouldn’t Mesmers already be able to do this? I find it degrading that Kasmeer, Anise, Jennah, and all other NPC Mesmer’s are way stronger thkitten yet we’re forced to go and kill everything because they’re all “too weak” and “too busy”.
Heck, Kasmeer has Feedback on less than half the cooldown of our own and can ground target it. Same goes for Time Warp.
Anise can spawn upwards of 10 Phantasms instantly, except she doesn’t do this if you’re a Noble.
Jennah can effortlessly convert an entire army of clockwork machines to not only look, but also act like other creatures (which goes beyond Phantasms). So effortlessly, in fact, that she’s unable to take off the illusion…
Mmmmmm…
But it puts you in combat, slowing you down and having your group speed up ahead of you to leave you with all the trash they aggro. Just slot in PU and stealth the group.
To add onto what cpq has said…
Guardian is a melee-oriented support class.
Elementalist is a (typically) ranged-oriented support class.
Engineer is a (typically) mid-range oriented support class.
Mesmer is a support class that can go through any range.
Of course, this is a very broad generalization, as Elementalists can be front-liners. Engineers can be back/front-liners. Guardians can be back-liners (albeit with one weapon which they tend to have to use a lot, the Scepter). Mesmers can still be all over the place.
However, going full support with any one of these professions is not an optimal choice. It is possible to spec for a supportive build, but with the lack of a trinity (or with the GW2 trinity of control/damage/support) it’s best to aim for 2 parts of the 3. When building a build, try to get control + damage, control + support, or support + damage. While it is possible to go pure in one direction, it really leaves your build lacking a lot of potential. (Unless you’re in PvP where full damage can work. Doesn’t mean it will, but it can. Note that most WvW/PvP builds are a mixture of at least 2 of the prongs even if it doesn’t seem like it.)
Actually it’s more of a: Well, since all my skins are on this, now I need to get 17 more for all my different stats.
Oh hey, why not just do BOTH on items.
Regardless, neither of these will be implemented.
I just sat down with a simple combo build and learned how to combo and improv.
GS/Sword+Pistol is an easy one.
In PvP, you get PvP ranks. When you “levelup” in PvP, your PvP ranks go up.
If you’re talking WvW, however, your character will retain the levels.
Yeah I’ve got my eye on this but we’ll see how it goes in the reveals and stuff. Just as mesmers wouldn’t/didn’t like people crying about chrono being OP before release and everything I don’t think we should cry either.
I don’t think it seems OP, but I’m a little miffed at them giving power block mechanics to another class, particularly the one that’s immune to it.
And it’s not even a trait, just a skill! Hue.
Also, before that I had been running around with my Molten Pickaxe (which has already been paid for because at the gem prices when I bought it, it was roughly 10g).
Now, I only mine with my Watchwork Pick and I avoid gathering on other characters, in general.
I think they’re fine as is. If you want special effects get a weapon with special effects. If you don’t want special effects get a weapon without special effects.
The spirits of the wild are not the human gods. The spirits of the wild are beasts in the mist that the shamans commune with to gain insight in their troubles.
1: In WvW, your gear scales to appropriate gear. This means if you’re level 10 and wearing a level 10 Blue, you’re essentially level 80 wearing a level 80 Blue (not quite right, but close enough). If your gear is lower level than you, you will get less stats than a level 80 piece of equipment. Additionally, it is possible to outstat a level 80 in WvW, which is why the level 80 wearing a level 80 Blue isn’t exactly right. If you are to outstat a level 80, once you levelup your stats will slowly diminish until they are correct.
I don’t know exactly how to outstat a level 80.
2: Arenanet has their own research team to figure out what needs balancing. We are not their most favored class, but we are still running strong even with the “we get nerfed every patch” mentality that a lot of Mesmers have. Mesmers are not necessarily easymode. You can play them easymode, but you can also 100b Warrior, or D/P Thief (actually it’s S/D right now for the mainstream build). Mesmer just has a much higher skill cap/ceiling (if there even is one) and a much higher skill floor. Note that even with the high skill floor, there are still some builds that allow unskilled players to utilize the Mesmer.
What most people don’t understand is that the lack of a skill cap on a Mesmer is not the same as a lack of a skill floor for a Mesmer. They will complain about a Mesmer killing their entire roam group when in reality they just fought a ridiculously skilled Mesmer (or they were trying to play with one hand while writing an essay with the other).
