I totally expect ANet to send veterans through the lower level zones again to get mastery points.
This way they will populate the zones for newer players and lengthen the time it takes to progress so it looks like more content.
I wish it wasn’t so, but ANet has sort of a history in sending people back to places they have completed ages ago.
Yay for old content!

Your build in GW2 is defined by your gear. It is just so that everyone runs zerker gear, so you make up fine nuances to build an artificial build variety.
All are DDs in first place. Then they get some support to raise the DPS of the group. This has nothing to do with what the DEVs were talking about.
The system is broken, the encounters are all about burning down the boss, no other mechanic needed. No tanking – no tanking gear needed, no real healers – no healing gear needed, nothing else needed but DD.
This is why all group (zerg) content feels the same: Do as much damage as you can, dodge, damage.
If you say so, record a fractal 49 or 50 with just direct damage, nothing else. No support and no controls.
I can agree that open world zergfest is pretty much what you say but how would you design a content with tanks and healers in open world for 150 people?
I probably wouldn’t design content for 150 people in GW2, it is simply not really designed for large scale battles with many NPCs.
Just imagine 150 players fighting an army of enemies, not just a single HP sponge, or groups of 10, but hundreds of enemies.
Well this game was never even designed around zergs in the first place, that is why all this is a futile discussion anyways.

Interview: 1 specialization per profession
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Choo choo! While there are no breaks on the hype train, ANet was prepared to put some heavy obstacles on the rails.
These specializations sound just like simple class updates.
“Your ranger can now use a staff or be the same old same as the last three years. Yeah, sounds like a tough choice. Be a new druid with new skills and stuff, or still be a ranger. The choice is yours!”
What kind of choice is that. The only thing I see here is:
A. Buy the expansion and have a one-way progression on your class by becoming a druid or
B. Be left behind.
Can’t wait to get more details on this kind of stuff…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You can’t quit, even if you want to. Sorry, doesn’t work. Unless you get a perma ban, that is the only option to really quit in a B2P game you own.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Mesmer bugs are a myth. After existing forever, they are now a feature of the profession.
Also, all high-end tPvP mesmers play shatter, nerf shatter! Nerf it in PvE too, as you always do. Noone cares anymore though…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Low mobility is a mesmer weakness, deal with it. Can’t have everything of the cake.
Not every class can have good access to swiftness / passive movespeed. That’s why classes are different. You gotta deal with it.
Are you the new game designer at ANet? Good.
How do I deal with it in PvE, when my group is constantly half the dungeon ahead of me? Tell them to wait – great way to deal with an imbalance.
How do I deal with it in Wv3, when my group is moving faster than me – as does the enemy – which ruins group play.
I run a full Centaur set and focus off-hand, just to be on par with most other classes passive standards. This kills variaty, this cannot be what a game designer wants…

Your heart is in for a rough ride:
May your heart rest in peace…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You must be kidding…
After they introduced the grindiest grinds ever in a western AAA MMO (noone likes to grind they said), vertical progression (even casuals should have BiS they said), most of the events are watered down to press 1, 1 and 1 again (boring they said), you still think they would give a kitten about what they said in the past?
That is a lot of faith you got there.
Perhaps you should gain some experience/knowledge by playing other MMO’s than just this one. You would see that all of them have a grind and GW2’s pales in comparison to some of them.
Asheron’s Call 2
Anarchy Online
Horizons
WoW
LotRO
DCU
Aion
STO
Defiance
AoC
.
.
.Just to name some of the more well known ones I played to max level (besides Anarchy online). Most of them AAA at start, and the only one that comes even close to the ascended grind is Aion at release.
For everyone on the same power level at eighty and advertised as non grindy game, just this combination is a sarcastic statement since ascended items were introduced.
I don’t know why people would call it a misinterpration of the manifesto though, as ANet themselves have stated that they stopped following it…
Played some of these too, and you are full of it. Ascended, for one thing, isn’t even required. But try doing a T10 WoW raid in T2 armor and see how well it goes. We’ll wait. But if you actually played these games then you know what you’re spewing and doing it anyway. Can’t really reason when its pouting.
This. Asheron’s Call wasn’t a grind? You are freaking kidding me..
Yeah, it was crazy to be honest, but farming “the beach” with two tacticans made you level like crazy and endgame before hero patch was for sure no grind for items… ^^
Was not expecting anyone to have a clue though, so I am impressed that there are still players of this game around… xD
On the matter of who ever said something about no grind for BiS, I quote:
Eurogamer: How are you handling endgame loot – will we be farming bosses?
Colin Johanson: Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectable items in the game[…]

Every single dungeon and every single raid added to WoW that you listed is bigger than all fractals and added dungeon pathes and mini dungeons added to GW2 together.
Ahn’Qiraj alone probably has the size of the Silverwastes…

Well it is pretty big complect in old zone, I hope couple of greatsword hits won’t collapse it leaving no trace of it ever being there.
With all the things disappearing all the time, a tower more or less would not be too suspicious.
Honestly, I feel it’s such a waste to get rid of all the content after such short time, but the Living Story rule seems to be: It is patch day again, be gone old content.

ANet realized that by “fixing” iLeap, they broke it beyond usefulness.
ANet can’t fix the broken AI, going back to the old iLeap would be a bandaid.
ANet does the only thing that will make iLeap work (which I posted monthes ago), the skill will finally work as intended.
People should just get over the fact, that a profession using a melee weapon gets a working gap closer. They act like iLeap is something totally new and mindblowing overpowered.
Which it is not. If I just got one copper for every tear shared of some random pvpers over mesmer changes, I would be the richest player in the game.
“Mesmers get a broken skill fixed, burn down ANet!”
I say, if ANet ever manages to fix the illusions AI, we can change the skill back to how it is now. Until then we keep the new iLeap.
Which means forever btw.

For me as well Gw2 is best MMO out there.Just community sux, full of troll’s like that guy above me.
GW2 is not a bad game, just the DEV’s do try hard to make it somehow worse all the time.
As a sidenote, I have supported the GW2 community more than most players here and helped many players. If that makes the community fail, what is not?

Well, at least for open world, the change of Illusionary Reversion will cause two things:
1. Everyone will still have to pick Dueling for Deceptive Evasion
2. People will pick Improved Alacrity or Danger Time over Illusionary Reversion, as it is usless if you have Deceptive Evasion anyways…
Goodbye build variety, welcome back Deceptive Evasion.
Edit: Maybe it can still work with Chronophantasma, if the respawned phantasm works as illusion which it should, and alacrity gives enough CD reduction on double-traited GS to bring Mirror Blade CD down fast enough. We will see.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
(edited by Kaiyanwan.8521)
It blows my mind, that people would defend something that is obviously broken. Even ANet said that it is broken.
An easy fix would be to implement a first person view, but for whatever reason, ANet loathes the idea of doing so (some talk about different points of view for different races comes to my mind)…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
You call the living story and SAB garbage, I call legendaries garbage.
I’d rather have content to play than grindy skins to pursue.
Honestly, both are garbage. The weapons are a bad grind in a grind in a grind.
The living story is the worst storytelling or even story ever in a MMO.
I wonder why we have dragons as main plot if we have to fight a cheap version of adult Tiny Tina for monthes…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
So much anger, so much hate.
People have preferences, people play differently. I see the futility and ignorance on both sides of the argument, while the answer is simple: No build is optimal for every situation while most builds will just deal fine with most situations.
You don’t like the GS? Don’t use it. But please don’t call it names. You point out the strengths of the sword/focus combo, why not go with both. Sure, the staff is a bullet proof life saver with some support, but not everyone likes to wait on cooldowns for about an hour.
You like shatter better? Welcome to the club. But in dungeons, phantasm builds are just lazier to pull off. Do I play phantasm builds in dungeons? Sure, from time to time, but if they bore me, I stop playing and than noone has anything gained. So I play shatter and still get things done. If the team knows what to do, I do not even care what spec I am on when entering a dungeon.
You can still adjust your utility, you can still swap weapons depending on the fight. Every mesmer can equip a focus and pull things together.
PvE is not rocket science even though some people make it look like it. It is a matter of learning and having the necessary equip and right skills for the challenges at hand. The encounter will not fail on your traits if you know how it works. At least in GW2, min-maxing is not necessary for dungeons. Thank god, many of us were tired of being locked in one way to play.
Enjoy your freedom, and let other enjoy theirs.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Well to be honest, Wv3 is sort of an ugly child of PvP and PvE, and there must have been a lot of alcohol be part of the process bringing them together. So it is somehow ok for PvEes to go there.
The new map on the other hand is just a random team deathmatch. Random teams, random players from random servers. It is not even Wv3, it is just an arena.
I am still surprised that the Wv3 people are so happy about it.
But this new map will be a nightmare for PvE people. Questing on a de facto FFA PvP map with anonymous players.
That doesn’t sound like Wv3, it sounds like a slaughter.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It is just bait and switch, I am surprised that people are surprised.
1) Druid was not ready for release nor have the pets been.
2) BWE3 druid version was a fake version to make the druid appealing so that rangers would buy the expansion. New pets were overpowered and actually useful.
3) After release, nerf everything to the ground, because people got the expansion out of hype already.
This has happened a hundred times before in MMO releases. ANet just adapted to the common standards.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Elitism will spill over to the casual raiding.
People will try to copy whatever they see on youtube, and if a profession is missing, it will have a hard time to get into raid groups for that reason.
We will see, but I am sure that all raid encounters are designed to work without a druid. They might be easier with one in the beginning, but as soon as they have been beaten, the ranger/druid will drop out of the meta again.
The ranger will be as popular as it is now after the raids are on “farm”.
If every ranger has to start his own raid groups to actually get there, than this is not a very satisfying solution, sorry Stalima.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Hey OP,
I can still recommend my builds in my signature. They might have taken a bit of a hit with the last nerfs (like the whole chronomancer) but they still get the job done.
I do not recommend a pure melee build for several reasons:
- GS is great burst damage
- getting into melee takes time
- you want to stay mobile and still do damage
- many mobs have nasty melee attacks, chak poison will totally get you out of battle if unlucky with a melee setup
- more AoE
- it is super easy to solo many hero points with a GS
- instead of worrying about blocking or evading attacks, just do damage
- etc.
Go solo with a GS even in melee with my build(s). Most of the time it is more efficient than using or switching to a sword as a chronomancer in open world.
But hey, I won’t tell you that I am right, just give it a try and decide by yourself.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The game is what it is.
ANet changed some early gameplay because of METRIX™, but over all the game won’t change.
Sorry. If you don’t like it now, there is very little chance, that you will ever like it.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Too much hype too little delivery.
It is one of the few predictable constants in regards to GW2.
God forbid that gamers want to actually see the game and not some people chatting about whatever. If I want to see a sitcom, I have better options.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Soulbeast feels terribly clunky.
Dagger is a waste of a main-hand weapon. Who came up with this?
But to be honest, I mostly played power soulbeast. The problems for me are mainly:
1. Too many swaps with too many gates. We got weapon swap which is fine. but we also got pet swap, wich is now gated behind the soulbeast mechanic. While before I could swap the pets for F2 (in PvE mostly for break bar), I now have to leave beast mode and swap to use F2 – wasting time and putting beast mode on cooldown…
I don’t get ANet’s desire to put a cooldown on everything, especially on a class that has two swaps with cooldowns already. Why does beast mode have a 10 sec cooldown? Put the cooldown on traits related to it. Let us jump us in and out of beast mode at any time to actually achieve a fluid gameplay.
Just too many gates, too many cooldowns, too many steps to achieve the same result as before. I understand that the dev’s want us to make decisions. But the way that soulbeast plays does feel more like avoiding decisions.
2. Stances suck. No idea if I will ever once use even one of them. Shout+signet/spirit outclasses them for power gameplay IMO.
3. Traits: If we take beastmastery can we please get the 25% runspeed for the character all the time instead of just in beast mode? Who came up with the current trait and thought it would be a cool idea?
This just for a start.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It did.
People who play a game in a hardcore manner play min-max builds. So for dungeon mesmers in GW2 this would mean s/s + s/f.
New players prefer the GS for its range and flexibility. They do not need to know all encounters, they can fall back if insecure.
Hardcore players get bored and leave, because there is no new content. New players pug dugeons with GS. Players that have been around a longer time but not hardcore enough to challenge new games with harder content get upset by the newbies in easy dungeons, just because they have nothing else to do.
Newbies get better and bored and leave. New newbies pug dungeons with GS, Same old same players get upset, because hey, how else would you feel superior in a game that has nothing left for hardcore players.
This is like an endless cycle, fueled by the same few people who think that min-maxing has still any value.

The funny thing, ANet makes this game grindy as hell to craft anything of value.
Than people grind and grind and grind and get banned.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The two rules which have been true for all MMOs before:
1. Never play on a patch day.
2. Exploit early, exploit often.
Thank god, ANet got it right and fixed both issues.

Well Blade&Soul is the most succesful MMO this year for sure. Breaking all records in a matter of weeks. But most people just don’t look too far to the East, even though that is no excuse to fail to see the giant at the horizon.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Fyi, the delay on first attack has been present since BWE2. It is there for balance reasons to give enemies a moment to react to the powerful summon.
So it is WAI? As if in PvE any mob would ever avoid an AoE, but no, the oh so mighty phantasm gets killed by mobs in PvE before it can even do one attack. Am I the only one who sees a problem here?

She was digging for answers to the horrible LS.
Unfortunately we killed her, before she could tell us if she found one.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The whole argument that you do not need the best gear is so insanely ridiculous.
It is the argument of an elite, that actually should not exist in GW2 as it was promoted as equal powerbase for everyone.
In vanilla WoW we had the same: You don’t need the epic gear unless you raid (and the raiders steamrolled PvP with the uber gear). Ask WvW people what they think about your argument…

@urbancat Yup, the “best game” is the one where YOU are having fun, where YOU discovered new ways of having fun. If the mentality of some ppl are “Meh, no LS for the next 2 weeks, i’m bored”, then yea, ofc they think other games are better, since they dont try wvw, pvp, or thinking at a new goal in the game and try to accomplish.
What about the people that have been here since release? They surely are getting out of goals after waiting for solid content since forever…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
But how on earth are new players supposed to ever think about raiding? Those poor sods are waaaaaay behind the curve. And most probably will burn out before they ever get there.
TL/DR: If ANet wanted ascended to be the standard gear for raiding, they should have put some reasonable, progression-based methods in the game to acquire it. But they didn’t.
This so so so so so much. I am one of those new players. It is downright discouraging. I have already thought about looking into a different MMO. Not because I don’t like the thought of “needing” this gear. But because, as a new player, obtaining looks like a near impossible mountain to grind.
I feel so sorry for new players. This expansion is already tough on veterans, but it must feel totally futile for the new ones when they realize the timegated grind ahead to get into endgame.
This is worse than catching up in WoW… No gear grind my lower back.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The engine GW2 runs on has enough clipping problems as it is.
Capes would just be a horrible clipping nightmare. That is why we do not have them.

Anyone with half a clue will spot the clones in a heartbeat. No offhand, standing in position spamming attack one, running straight to the target without attacking. No buffs be it food or skills.
But hey, I remember saying so in the other thread about reducing mesmers hitpoints, and I was getting flamed.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Personally I think you have to decide first: Condition or direct damage.
If you want to go with conditions, the greatsword is just not a good choice. While you can use the stuff in a direct damage setup fairly well, the other way around just does not really work.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
If I’m not wrong, those aren’t all the april changes we’ll get, but simply some tweaks to prepare players in advance for what they should do or not do until then.
Ah, after re-reading it, you may be right. I really hope you are, actually.
Hope is nothing but missing information.
Hoping for anything more than what is announced by ANet is a bulletproof way to get disappointed.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
As Kaiyanwan says, the only problematic part is that people who are too angry or too bored with the game can still post on the forums.
xD
ANet forces me fairly often to take a few days off the forums… But for the very moment, I am allowed to post something every ten minutes. ^^
But, I am not entirely sure if the message you got out of my posts is exactly what I had on my mind…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Using wvw as a reference to balance is kind of pointless.
Why? Is one out of three game modes not worthy for all classes to be on the same level.
If your point is that large scale battles are never balanced anyway, than you could simply throw balance out of this game.
Noone needs balance in PvE, as all content can be done with every class anyway… Sounds great.
Noone needs balance in WvW, as there is never balance anyway… Oh, good.
Balance around PvP? Nah, only around tPvP, so we have this great eSports stuff going on. Works pretty well, with two out of eight classes (war/guard) being on every team. Looks totally balanced to me.
In the end, who needs balance? Why is anyone moaning anyway?
BS.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium

In matters of gold farming: ANet is doing the right thing to shut down methods to earn gold by farming. The gap between casual gaming gold earning and farming is already way to big.
Class balance is playing with number, and unfotunately we do not have them. ANet will try their best, though nerfs will always cause nerdrage anyway.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
In fact, the title has no longer to do anything with the game.
People will tell you about the guild wars and you should read the lore, but honestly, this is so unimportant for this game that the title just implies that this is a sequel to a game called Guild Wars for whatever reason.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Hey mesmers,
For clarification: if you have 0-2 clones out and you dodge, you will summon a clone.
If you have 3 clones out and you dodge, nothing will happen.
Yeah, I’m 99% certain that’s NOT what they were describing.
The only change I see that would create is you could no longer replace injured clones. Its barely a change at all, and it doesn’t correspond to the rest of what they were saying. You don’t talk about a footnote as long and as nervously as they did.
Would you mind double checking with the Skill and Balance team, because they may changed to that in the last few hours, but I can’t believe something that trivial is what they were discussing in the live-stream.
I think you are missing the point. This is a major nerf for builds with traits that apply effects when a clone dies. Not trivial at all.

To be honest, I am a solo PvE player and I like Orr the way it is, all of it. It just misses some population from time to time, but this could have simply been adjusted by better rewards.
Now another three zones will get as easy as the whole game already is…
If all three zones become a cakewalk, what is the reason for still playing them. Some people like a bit of a challenge, and yes, you can do most of the DEs in Orr solo, it is just not brain-dead easy some times.
