Please No Profession Loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mesket.5728

Hi everyone,

The article about profession system only presented the idea behind this system and we generally don’t give precise details about these systems unless these details are needed to understand the idea. In this case we can’t share details but we want to reassure players that they’re not going to see changes in loot so visible that some components are going to “rain” or they’ll stop seeing loot variety. It’s more complex than that.

The adjustments to the loot system are fairly subtle and the goals are that, after a certain time, your characters will effectively have more components you can use. So it may take some time for you to see a difference, or not, but it’s not going to feel like a very visible change each time you loot a mob. We want players, in particular new ones or those creating alts, to more often be able to use the items they loot directly or get something that is relevant to their profession. It does not mean that you’ll get less varied loot overall. We’ll keep monitoring the changes to kitten its affects.

Thanks for your early feedback!

Does this mean that it will affect level 80s?
EDIT: I hate to derail your post, but I’d really like an answer on this. The initial blog was very vague, and I’d like some clarification. Thanks for responding to our feedback

seems so…

so basically the game right now has a ridiculous amount of metal and leather over cloth.. they are making it so 5 out of 8 classes will see less cloth and more leather and metal… good job!

2 years and this still is one of the main issues with the game. GW2 is not an RPG. It’s an online assasin’s creed kind of game. Its an arcade. Its not a game about teamplay. We are all single players on the same map. Get it in your head. They won’t fix it.

Is there anybody else who honestly likes these changes? In every topic it is always Vayne irrationally defending the game. If you truly believe this game is flawless no matter what points people bring up, you can’t be reasoned with and thus your opinion hold no merit.

Yes, Lilith and her Asura pictures seems to love the patch as well,… there was a third one but I can’t remember the nickname. Its important for the “metrics” that we count how many are out there that liked the change… so far we got 3.

Wait a minute… does ANet still consider they have “drops” on their mobs? I thought it was perfectly clear already that there are no “drops” in GW2 and everything that falls from mobs are salvage material

I mean,… are they really aware of what’s going on in GW2? do they know that to craft heavy you need light? maybe this idea was tossed out by a new hired and approved by a senior who never logged into the game… its the only reasonable explanation

Scarlet's Redemption

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mesket.5728

Mesket.5728

You know, everyone talks about how much they hate Scarlet. Funny…isn’t that what the devs want?

Hear me out: They’ve thrown a villain at us that is cartoonish, silly, and really doesn’t DO anything other than have her minions (ahem…alliances) fight for her. In a way, she’s just a superfluous figurehead. But, she has galvanized most of the rest of us into hating her, and wanting to see her dead by increasingly cruel means.

Scarlet needs to have her story fleshed out a bit, and she could be a great villain. Finally, when we get to the last chapter in her living story, everyone in the entire game is going to willingly complete it, just to see her die. And, if it’s an instance, they’ll do it repeatedly…

So, in a sense they have accomplished exactly what they were going for with her. We all hate her, or at least most of us do.

No,… everyone hates the Lanister, but we love how well developed those characters are. Not the same hate we have for Scarlet.

First, no… Not everyone hates the Lannister. There are some who genuinely like parts of them.

Secondly, I never said it was the same type of hate. All I said is that if the mission was to make everyone in the game hate her, then they accomplished it well.

Why was it so hard for you, mr straw man, to understand that I was referring to Cersei and Joffrey? I mean the characters that are made for you to hate but are so well done that even if you hate them, you recognize the amazing job done by the writer because he did indeed accomplished his task, you hate them.

We don’t hate scarlet because she is evil and do bad things to good people, we hate her because she is shallow, annoying, it doesn’t have any kind of charm or personality (its a joker copycat) and we don’t want her to be our main villain. We simply don’t-like-her. I don’t care what she is doing or why she is doing it, even if she blows up all the capital cities, I wouldn’t care because there is no reason behind her plot. Everything about her was story-wise forced to happen and it doesn’t make sense. Its breaking more lore than it is generating. Its not adding nothing to the game, its substracting value to the story already written. The only harm she is doing is to the novel writers. I wonder how many book would Scarlet story sell…

Bad Economy

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mesket.5728

Mesket.5728

John,

The problem here is not really about your TP or economy system design. It’s pretty much the best I’ve seen in any game. But this is not an economy game. There was a HUGE mistake by placing the legendary and its prerequisites as TP listed objects.

We are here to play as adventurers, we are warriors, archers and wizards. We kill Ogres, Trolls and Dragons. We simply don’t care about economy and I don’t need more gold that what’s needed to get a beer barrel and sharpen my axe. Now,… how did the big end rewards for long term achievements ended up bottle neck in the TP?

This is why people complain.

Nobody complained in Wow when players reached ridiculous amount of gold, because all the big shines were at the end of a dungeon and everyone who can make it there (playing the game) would have access to it.

I can tell you from my personal experience that this is not the case for us guild warriors. I achieved almost anything the game has to offer. From Dungeon Master tittle, to world completition, WvW kills, even the whole jumping puzzle list. I have hundreds of Dragon and many other big bosses kills. I like to go exploring and solo whatever champion I find around…. I even went far on Fractals just to experience the hardest content. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying come here and hand me a Legendary; but why is it that I’m SO far from it? Even if I get lucky enough to get a precursor… I would still be around 400g away from it. I’ve been doing dungeons and anything at my reach on daily basis… I play every day and have over 850 hours in my Warrior. The one and only thing I don’t do is play the TP and this is why “I fail” at this and can’t have my Legendary yet. It all comes to this… economy and TP. The huge bottle neck of the game for us who play the game.

Of course, you don’t NEED a Legendary to play the game, but so far it is the only one big reward implemented and of course, us adventurers; think we deserve a better chance at getting one that the people standing inside Lions Arch the whole day.

How I am starting to see things in this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mesket.5728

Mesket.5728

Genfar, I see your point exactly.

In my case there are 2 things bugging me about this game.

1) Zerk players becoming a trend (Blame ANet for content bad designed)
2) particle FX on skins.

This game advertised as something great and revolutionary…

its turning more and more into another WoW but without strategy (which is kind of even worst).

Flashy players thinking they are the reborn Satan with fire, dragons and demon armor (or all white with lights like they are all angels, wtf); of course, all full DPS using the biggest weapon they can find.

I’ve been playing a PVT Warrior (Axe/Shield and Hammer) since Head Start and I never had a problem with any content. I got my Dungeon Master last year and I’m still using the same build. Why? because I think is the most effective and representative of my class. I have lots of CC skills, good damage (highest power you can get unbuffed), block skills, etc…

Yesterday was the proof. I had a blast with the event, my GF (she plays an arcane elem and learned her way to support like no other) and I were farming those champs having a laugh while the map chat was a river of tears from all the Zerks who think they can play like the videos getting killed over and over again by the vets and AOE skills.

Don’t follow the trends or the masses… most of them just follow what they read without a proper analysis, and they don’t realize they are not as good players as they think and most of them fail badly.

Leveling an alt is so much more tedious now

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mesket.5728

Mesket.5728

I’m not convinced. How many traits are available to a new player through normal gameplay? And what would a new player consider normal? We’re talking new player, not us rolling a new alt.

With the previous // With the current system a new player could:

Start reading/learning about his own traits at lvl 11
Now he has to wait until 30.

He could try out builds and learn the advantages of his grandmaster talents from lvl 60
Now he has to wait until 80.

The way this community works, it is unlikely for a new player to hit explorable dungeons before lvl 80. Now it is even more unlikely since we will start seeing players lvl 80 who will have absolutely no clue about his own traits because not only he didn’t had the chance to equip them but now he doesn’t even have them!

Obtaining any part of a Legendary isn’t hard. A 13 year old with ADD could do it. If you meant long, tedious and boring to the point where I would poke my own eyes out then yes, I would agree.

If bots could do it…. people still defending the current designed must be afraid of a) loosing a potential precursor sell, b)not up to real challenge.

GW1 = more build diversity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mesket.5728

Mesket.5728

in GW1, any useless skill, COMPLETELY useless skill, could be the next FOTM without any balance patch just because someone put some thought and find a combo with the least thought class combination and made it the most OP build ever. Given the amount of skills, class combinations and runes, it was theoricrafters dreamland and the best (at least for pvp) there was no meta because every meta was always countered… in GW2 pvp metas get nerfed because there aren’t enough tools ingame for the players to counter them,

All I’m saying is that if this game wants to be GW sequel, its needs a ton load of more skills and let us choose between different weapon skills as well, not just the same 5 for any build with the same weapon.

GW2 meta builds are a kinda of a joke when compared… “I equipped reflect wall, I’m now the party reflector, that’s my role”, “hey I have time warp, I must be the party buffer!”..

Condition damage was a failed design and it is core. It will take them a lot of work to re-do it properly (they’ll probably never do it). Legendaries are a luxury object. And thus prized as a luxury is to be expected.

legendary is a tier

That tier will be unavailable to other players for some time every tier jump we will have.

See what happened with triforge and amulets?

Well imagine having a better armor of any other player for about a month every time a tier get release or lvl cap upgraded.

I never wanted a legendary before november 15 as many other players that doesn t like those skin…

Wrong game. Legendary is mainly cosmetic. Check the stat difference between the legendary weapons and exotics in the same slot.

And what you mention is the gear spiral- again wrong game.

Legendaries represent more than luxury and cosmetic, this is where you are wrong.

There is no other achievement in game on par with a legendary. Remove Legendaries from the game and 90% will plain quit as this is the only thing remaining for someone who already completed the world, dungeons, and got bored with WvW.

Anet knows this and let the market madness continue as we keep struggling with 0,00001% drop rates. There must be a carrot at the end of the stick.

Sparks do beahve better now, but still dodge the circle many times and for players like me with an average of 300+ ping its even worst. Why not make the circles a bit bigger? I mean,… its really the latest challenge of the game to herd mobs?

Funny how elitist still think this is challenge because others don’t want to endure this pain.

I’m just stunned this is so painful for some people.

It’s not irrelevant… forcing new players to go back on their own steps to do a skill point they were not allowed by system it’s the opposite of promoting exploration. It’s annoying and makes no sense. Gating skill points with a level requirement is really stupid. I can’t believe they actually paid someone to do this changes.

No, I’m sorry… I try to follow you but I can’t. I disagree on every line of thought. This won’t make the game easier for new players. Explaining what and how to get in WvW is helping new players. Removing their skills is not. Anyone who played a computer game in the last 10 years knows how to press 1 to 10.

Clicking some pastures and feeding a cow is intuitive. Clicking a cow and feed it with your thoughts its not. A game is a game while there is something to work out and resolve. This stops being a game and it is now a simple task to be done. Its not fun.

I got to admit, I was sticking up for the idea of a scroll in the hopes it would be a simple “gain X levels/XP” as opposed to the fast-to-20 scroll, and I was certainly disappointed when it was the same scroll as the other. That being said, I appreciate that I got anything from them for my character’s birthday, and hope that this year (#2) the entire community will be more positive and outstanding and then maybe, just maybe, ANet will decide to actually love people instead of gifting us a rock.

I mean, really, it just makes me laugh, because in my head all I can picture was someone trying to get a gift for a friend who does nothing but act like a jerk all the time, and know that I would have done the exact same thing. Next year though, no more scrolls. I mean, they can’t possibly think that after having a character for two years that people would need another level 20 scroll right? Then again, if it wasn’t account bound I could give it to people who don’t have all the alts I do…

You know… sometimes its even better not to give a present if you don’t know what to give:

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mesket.5728

Mesket.5728

Doesnt duration automatically increase potency of a boon though? if the mights you apply last for 10s instead of say 8s doesnt that mean your might buff is now 20% more potent?

Not really, they way the game works now lets you stack 25 mights without struggle and you don’t even need 1% boon duration to make it. We are again the land where on paper their idea was not bad but it was implemented wrong. Still, I think support need a stat that allow players specialize into it and if it was me, I would replace healing for it. If they truly want to remove healers as a role then why do we have a stat for it?

Thing is removing some dps and introducing support and control isnt removing something important and introducing something useless, you’re removing one element and adding another.

In the equation it’s not the same. That is why zerk groups are more efficient. Damage stats scale ridiculously better and there are no other stats to increase other roles.

I think the OP has a point and I agree with him. The current game only cares for one role and its damage. The other roles are not developed. If you take all the gear combos and split the stats into groups you will find that most of the if not all falls into 3 categories: Damage, Tank and Healer (trinity brought up by their own stat selection while designing the game). The game really looks like they worked in different departments with poor communication between each other.

Yup, and also create a volcano at the end that erupts with 5 meteor showers that knockdown people for 8 minutes each.
Also, on the path you leave a line of fire that burns and pulses for 10k dmg per second, while creating lava elementals that immobilize and daze foes in an area.
If traited, during the skill you ride a bear that shoots lasers from his eyes that stack 25 vulnerability for 10 minutes in a 180 degrees cone.

Anything else?

You don’t think that 40 seconds CD for an utility that does exactly the same as similar weapon skills is ok? For something you will use once every 2 or 3 fights I would do something more usefull…. not much of an Bull’s Charge utility if I’ll get stopped by a rabbit.

Arenanet totally forgot GW1 fans?

Mesket.5728

Have to chime in one the side of being a GW1 vet who doesn’t feel betrayed, abandoned, forgotten, etc. … are there aspects of GW1 I wish were in GW2? Sure. But, by the same token, I wish there were aspects of CoH (RIP) (costume creation and flying) in GW2 and even aspects of PotC in GW2 (owning a ship and sailing to Southsun would be awesome). And I don’t feel my experience with GW2, or the time I’ve spent playing it, have been wasted because it lacks those aspects, as it brings so much else to the table.

I know this isn’t the answer for everyone, but if I truly longed for Cantha that much or Elona, or EotN, then I’d just log back into GW1 and go wander around those areas. I know no new content is being developed or released, but what I did enjoy about it is still there. But, as another poster or two mentioned, the few times I’ve logged back into GW1, it wasn’t long before I was logging back out again because I wasn’t enjoying myself the way I do in GW2.

The big question to ask is:

Would so many GW1 fans buy this game knowing there were not going to be any additional zones so far? Knowing the atrocities their “art” team is doing? How the lore of the game is being put aside for lame excuses to use the gem store?

Hey folks, here’s an update on the situation that you will soon see in an upcoming content patch:

I made it so that the sparks will better follow players. They will try to get closer to the player before using their skill, and their skill recharges faster, so they will spend less time standing around after using a skill. I also made them prefer player targets so that they won’t just attack a minion/pet/npc if a player is nearby.

While her healing is a factor, I felt the main problem was the spark behavior. The changes I described above make them better follow the player, which is in line with the mechanic of the fight.
I’ll be keeping an eye on it though.

No no no Robert! Problem is not the sparks! We fought it yesterday for over 2.30 hs! by the T: 2:15 we were Master Spark Herders,… and its funny cause someone posted exactly how we herded the sparks:

https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/34164/Dwayna_Alter_Battle.png

the problem is the boss going invis, invul and healing at 50% no matter how long has it been since she last appeared… let me give you this example:

(This actually happened last night during our 2.30 hrs of constant fight against her)
Engage, she is at 100%, downed to 50% invis, heal to (lets say) 75%.
Engage, she is at 75%, downed to 50% invis, heal to 70% again… (we getting better at spakrs)
Engage, she is at 70%, downed to 50% invis, BUG OUT! Sparks explode almost instantly, she is at 52%-55% because she had no time to heal
Engage, she is at 52-55%, downed to 50% in few seconds, invis… again, in like no time.

So we tried something.. we started it all over again, let her enter the 70%-50%-70% loop but this time, when she came out of invis we let her live looong enough before downing her again to 50%… she NEVER went invis again until she hits the 50% wall…

So basically, you glitch it, bug it, align the stars, sacrifice a goat for the blood god, make a pact with satan or you will never kill her.

The event needs design review cause there is definitly something wrong/broken in it. The only groups able to do it currently are groups using the 4-1 trick because the way it is designed is currently impossible.

thanks Robert anyway for listening to your player base and work for our fun.

How is GW2 progression different?

Because WvW. That’s why.
And if new tier every 2-3 months is added on this game, a lot of people would QQ. So ain’t happening.

There are other games with so much better realm vs realm than GW2…

I’ll just drop one tiny HUGE detail that makes this game bad for pvp…. body blocking.

Nuff said…. without body blocking the whole system of taking and defending things is pointless. Any serious pvp oriented game has it. In GW2 pvp is a minigame for the lulz when you are bored of the pve minigame for the lulz.

Game Updates: Traits

Thanks. I’ll pass this on.

So, this is how it works? Cherry pick ONE PERSON’s “list of things I don’t like”, while ignoring 40 pages of really good feedback and ideas? OK. I’m done with this thread.

From this response from JonPeters and his initial post it is obvious that Anet is not going to fix their new leveling process or trait system except the individual tasks themselves.

I’m discouraged since I used to like leveling new alts but can live with just playing my level 80s instead.

To be clear we are looking at the system as a whole but recognize that changing that will take longer than is satisfying and are looking for ways to improve the current system until a time at which we can make a better overall system from the ground up. Specific suggestions on what traits are poorly placed are helpful for #1, specific suggestions on #2 are also welcome but are going to be read but not responded too right now.

So, if I’m reading this right, are you saying, you’re looking for quick changes to make the system more bearable while not confirming or denying the possibility of a holistic revamp at some point in the indeterminate future?

Because knowing that would really settle some of my anxiety about the existence of this request for feedback.

Yup. and I would replace the word possibility with the word probability…

Would you also stop the loot by profession change? or do we have to wait for 42+ pages of feedback… its already 9 pages and from this Sept 9 it will then be “too hard” to change and we will have to satisfy with “changing the word possibility with probability”… stop it now before its to hard to remove!

It shouldn’t be that hard to update the DB where fields are *,999 to the full value.

Not even Bad Luck Brian would get killed at 499,999 xp or have 199g 99s 99c :S

It had good art at the start… then I think they confused their art book with wow’s art book and did the wrong model… Wings and other atrocities started to appear and now we have this Korean cheap game with more flashes than a nipple slip at the red carpet.

Didnt you hear? Legendaries are not for adventurers, they are for traders and merchants. They should change Legendary weapons for Legendary hats, monocles and batons. 0 Damage and summons BLTP agents anytime.

Legendary items should have the Legendary Farmer tittle associated.

well,… isn’t green the server who ranked first on its tier? Isn’t EoTM a leveling ground? then go to WvW, win, and get the green (?)

Filtering bads from pugs

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Mesket.5728

Depends on the dungeon. I only PUG Arah, and a bad player is just useless regardless of gear.

I agree, and I also add that in the end of all, zerk or no zerk doesnt even matter if in the sum of the group skills you dont have some balance between group offensive and defensive buffs (its funny and sad at the same time seeing players die out of poison/bleedings because no one, not even themselves have skills to clean them).

Most bad players i found pugging weren’t using zerk gear. A bad player with other kind of gear doesn’t go unnoticed and doesn’t contribute anything at all. Even the worst berserker player ever at least does some damage before dying. A PVT/rabid/dire/cleric etc. geared bad build using double bow/double rifle player is good for nothing and does negative damage before dying.

That made no sense. I prefer a cleric guardian cleaning conditions at melee than a zerk warrior that after dying 3 times he pulls out his bow. If talking about bad, I prefer the realistic bad that doesn’t die because he is bad.

Hard Mode

If that’s not what you were going for in the first place, then I apologize for jumping on it and misunderstanding. We’ve had hundreds of threads on that topic, and when another one pops up, it’s quite frustrating.

No, I said that in a hard mode, mobs shouldn’t simply reset like they forgot about you completely. You want to skip them? do it, avoid their aggro range, use invis, teleport, w/e that works better for you. But when I think on a hard mode dungeon, I wouldn’t call it hard if I can just run 10 meters and call it a day (unless there are specific scenarios where you lock a door behind you as one example and you lost the mobs behind you, that would actually help the immersion).

A call to remove Hammer from Warrior

in Suggestions

Posted by: Mesket.5728

Mesket.5728

Hammer is fine. Dodge it.

Their hammer is fully equipped with excessive Permas beyond any class weapons in the game, and to me that is bad design.

what is “Permas”?

I heard some complains about some runes causing excesive ammounts of confusion but other than that… I don’t see any way Hammer can be OP. It has average damage at very slow attack speed and the same cooldown as any other weapons. It doesn’t even have its own +x% plain damage but a +x% damage to incapacitated which is situational and you can only get like a one or two lucky hits with the bonus on it.

I understand Warriors can be thought but aim your complain better. I hardly believe the hammer is the issue.
