The fact that a full zerk player can be as supportive as a full “insert whatever support gear you have in mind” proves the support role flawed and it drags the game design along with it.
This isnt correct though. A full zerk player can do support but not as well as someone with gear and traits targeted at support. You can fill each role but you’re not as effective at all roles all the time, your build choices shift the balance there.
No, you are right, efficiency wise they are not on par for support. But unfortunately, for support, you get nothing for over gearing. You won’t clean more conditions that the ones being applied. Support needed ends where the content says it ends. This is where in my opinion is wrong. You can’t make the party better because support options are extremely limited.
Follow me on this thought, in GW2 3 roles where promoted: Damage, Control and Support… where the other classic 2 roles (heal and tank) were excluded. I find this amazing and I would’ve loved to see that implemented. For some cosmic reason I can’t figure out why, they placed stats for the roles excluded (tank and heals) on gear but there is not a single stat that works for support and control (consider healing aside from support if healing is not a role). This is the big design flaw I always criticize. Why are there no stat that increase the potency of my buffs? not the duration… the strength of my Might or the crit chance of my Fury. You may say this would be OP now, but this should’ve be thought during the game design and balance accordingly. Why is Defiant a stack and not a bar? if it was a bar, a player with a stat dedicated to control would’ve been better at CC than a character without said stat. A guy full in control stat could knock down a boss with half its defiant bar while other player would’ve only reduce that bar in 10% (random example out of my hat). See my point? they didn’t change the rules of MMO to innovate, they just went back to when it was simpler. This doesn’t mean it’s open for more people, it means just that, its simpler.
As long as a full team of zerks can endure conditions and bypass those difficulties then the environment is not demanding a support role like you propose so I stand correct.
Environment demands nothing that is why it leaves room for full zerk teams to exceed.
Thats kinda the point of total freedom. At the end of the day in a fight what you want is to kill your opponent and the more damage you do the better. No contest there. But freedom is freedom, if you enjoy a different play style you can do that and you will bring the advantages of that to the group. Your zerker team will be better equiped to handle conditions and survive a mistake here and there if one of their team mates focuses on support for example. You’re trading in some firepower for some survivability. Whats wrong with that?
There is nothing wrong with that conceptually. It is wrong in practice. If this idea is well executed, every team composition would have the same efficiency. I know this is a design madness and almost impossible to balance well but it was them who promote this on their manifesto and use it as a flag to sell the game. In my book, they deliver it mediocre.
The game only scales in one way: One Shot hits and bigger and bigger HP pools. That kinda force you into one build at the end and you know the answer.
I would add 2:
a. After dodging
b. While doing combo (maybe cooldown if effects are too powerful, but something like increased condition/boon duration to the combo effect can work very effectively if you consider blinds, auras, burns)
One could argue that they need the time to sort out bugs and “bugs” with the feature pack.
The main bug they need to fix is the one that when planning on how to improve the game results in destroying it.
this game will be GTA-like by 2016

don’t get fooled by the snow and blizzards outside… its summer! hot as hell and the poor norn couldn’t stand the hot furs on the bed
You have no idea how HYPE i am for a universal distribution platform patch!
absolutely this
I can’t find a single reason to be hyped about this patch. Its just a merge with the chinese client which in many players opinions it is actually worst.
I can only asume that it seems to be easier to update the chinese client than the NA client so we got theirs. Any argument about if the changes are good or bad its irrelevant because it was never something to be fixed, we are just getting what they got for other reasons, not balancing, fixing, updating, etc… its just a client merge and deal with it.
From a rewards perspective, though, is it worth it?
The fun killing him and seeing the rest of the group die trying is reward enough for me.
/agree
It is a fun fight, better than almost every other. I’m playing this game to have fun fights; if I don’t do them, why the hell am I even logging in?
Please, no particle. This game needs no more particle effects.
Wow is that way —>
stop wowizing gw2.
Rest in peace… in peace… seriously… in peace… no no,… in peace… yeah,… you get that, in peace….
Ps. Nice duck caller to lure all the CoF farmers together lol
No more robot chess?
meh… wasted content…. not saying it was amazingly fun but I don’t understand this kind of moves… just don’t remove it! place it somewhere else, with no benefit or purpose,… maybe someone had fun just playing with the robots? I mean,… its an extra filling the world and make it more complete; Y U REMOVE IT!?
you confuse more sparks with quality.
You’re confusing your subjective opinion of their added effects with the objective fact that devs actually spent time and effort adding said effects.
Yes that’s the problem, game’s out, good rates are done. Artists are fired, devs are doing artists jobs. Voila! Fairy wings for everyone! Who has time for concept in one of the most beautifully released games? of course they don’t, screw the original art and add more fairy space wings!
fixing mobs following distance to at least 2x distance of next pull would be nice. That way if you want to skill you will have at least 2 pulls + the upcoming third one on you. This will make skipping requiring at least both hands and make dungeons a little bit more dangerous. Right now its a joke that you can enter the very deep of the most dangerous place on Tyria and just run through mobs for 10 seconds and be safe…
Ty for the input. I’m sorry for the guy whom I steal a few stacks of bleeding. It makes me feel sorry for the guy who built for it.
There are other things that can be tweaked to make roles viable and wanted that is not a direct change to how defensive stats soak damage. Aetherblade can lock you up with CC skills, who will cast stability to the whole party? why is that stability or vigor only last 2 seconds on most cases and its only on a few skills? those 2 are very underrated buffs and if dungeons demanded it, people would want them more often than another GS full of zerk stats.
Problem again is that stability and vigor don’t scale with stats, other than boon duration. The most simple solution to problems like this, on the assumption that you need a lot of stability and/or vigor, is to take more guardians/warriors which will still be in berserker gear.
I really feel like the best way for ANet to promote more class/role diversity would be to give each class something unique, which would be more or less desirable depending on the content. Let’s say like… a buff that works like Empower Allies/Spotter, that gives allies in the area +x% movement speed. I’m not feeling too creative right now, so that’s the only example I have atm. Maybe ‘x% chance to life steal on attack’.
I get your point and I’m with you on that one. I even opened a post on the suggestion forums (how naive right?) asking to change the “boon duration” stat for something like “boon potency” that not only increases duration but also the power of the buff, making Fury not only 20% crit but scalable to who knows 40%? (let them do the math lol) with full gear or Might giving more and more damage as the higher your boon potency is. Banners could provide more numbers also. The only “gray” I could find was regeneration where healing and boon potency could override but its not even a huge deal for a design-develop team to figure it out, like let healing alone do the job.
If only something like this… I believe all party would like to have someone full on boon potency for the amplified buffs and let him do the job while dps sports their damage utility instead.
there are plenty of free to play games and all of them are covered in glowing effects… when will players understand that glowing fx is the easy go solution for lazy artists? it is always easier to cover things up with some glow rather than work on textures to represent different fabrics… stop asking for cheap things in what it is supposed to be a quality game!
It would be better if they removed zerkers.
Clearly zerker gear is OP. Otherwise, why would all the other sets be considered bad?
So… should we start opening threads “Assasin gear is OP!” now? or wait for it? or should we just jump to “Knight gear is OP!”.-
Point is, its not the gear itself that is too good but the content too bad that in the equation of risk vs reward; there is too little risk for too much reward.
dodging is for the weak, the strong just stop an axe with their teeth
The TVH strongness in that horse is over 9000, he can solo Arah path 5 with his tongue (?)
Increasing the lvl cap its a long way of constant updates that leads directly to the game’s death, in a way or another.
Fractals of the mist do this already, some of the fractals reflects stories from the past like the Charr assault to Ascalon where the humans used to live.
And yes, I’d love to see more of this! (becoming the chosen one in Elona again would be nice
)

I would literally pay for gems for an option to remove all special FX and outfits from my screen. Please add that as a feature. That new Lich thing has worsen the GW environment by a lot (for the people who is trying to keep the aesthetic at least)
I know GW1 also had them… was the reason I stopped playing that game and never bought EotN. After that I just played solo with my heroes but here I’m forced to see them everyday.
You could…for example…put your Character Model Limit on low. :I
I want to keep the aesthetic not remove it completely. Having all those flashy things feels already like playing a low graphics game. Its pure glowing, no textures at all… while outfits, are just not original… I did a dungeon with 3 (not 2… 3!) Lich outfit guys. It felt like playing whatever but gw2.
They want to be happy with it. They want us to accept it. This is making huge profits for them.
They don’t want this game to run for years as we do (they will try to keep it alive with the least amount of effort possible, its business), so if they can squeeze every penny out of it, they will probably do it.
I, finally, realized that this will not be the game to be played for years; so, good bye long term investments.
So long and thanks for all the cheese.
expect something on the hundreds of gold for a crafted precursor.
Are you asking me how to fit more than one melee player on a boss without them overlapping? Incidentally overlapping is not stacking. Stacking is when everyone in the party intentionally stands on the same space for the duration of the fight.
I uh… um.
Okay.
No, this would be stacking (and some amazing 5 minutes drawing skills lol )
They are the minority because basically no PUG group ever skips. In fact, I even operate under the assumption that we’ll be skipping trash when running a dungeon with randoms.
I have never seen a PUG group that doesn’t skip.
Skip > easy
Kill > tedious (first) with the chance of showing you are bad.
No PUG ever kill trash.
Its the new back pack.
800 gems and you have that guy hanging from your back. Infuse it and it will have particle FX and wave his arms like wings.
Haha, why dropping warrior? try condi warrior, am currently using longbow/swordhorn build in pve.
Because if I wanted to be far from the battle burning things I would’ve rolled an elementalist.
Unfortunately, some of us are here for the fantasy as well, I like playing a warrior, who is strong, hits hard and endures battles.
Berseker is a weak version of that that only works for a few seconds and needs recharging. Rogues and Mages (generalizing classes) are better at enduring combats in melee than warriors, I don’t know how to think of this… I believe someone screwed up trying to be original.
Not before Elona desert.
Ok. I’ve seen this kind of stories over and over again. What do you exactly expect from gw2 after you reach lvl 80 ? And if there is nothing to do tell me what would you do in other mmo’s when you hit max lvl that is more fun then that you have right now ?
I would do raids and have a sense of progression or do pvp and get gear but there is no pvp gear in this game
This is not the game for you. You should be playing WoW or other games alike.
Home instance was a failiure… it is only used in the personal story or by some maniacs to farm crystal or candy once a day. There is nothing personal or to make it feel “home”. Just a bunch of NPCs you run along in the personal quest.
Soooo much room for improvement there but well,… flaming and sparkling items in the gemstore are priority I guess…
This game made the impossible… I think this is the first MMO out there where a character built exclusively for damage dealing is considered “team contribution” and someone who builds for support is considered selfish… I truly am amazed of how did things turned out for this game.
Block anyone that kicks you as a Guardian,… that way you are manually filtering baddies.
Engie flamethrower → Best tagger hands down.
lol great thread…
This one caught my eye: Activists claim Tequatl mutation the result of illegal dumping of used Boxes o’ Fun I have to check this out lol
ty for the fun
ahmmm I did it 2 man in the past… is it different now? or is people forgetting how to play this game due to excessive farming?
Scissor’s OP
Rock is fine

“Guys,.. never step here on this burrow when you destroy it cause you might bug outside of the room… This one, here; never step he….
I’m bugged on the other side, wait for me".
I think we need more cheese looks. Flamez were not enough, now we have power rangers.
People don’t like Guild Wars 2. They like the mini-games, activities, and two-week content that comes along with it.
Then they like Guild Wars 2…
An people love Mc Donalds because they like the toys.
Get real and don’t get into that childish argument. You know what GW2 is about and you know what minigames are, then why answer that silly statement?
(edited by Mesket.5728)
I remember my first gold invested in gems… 1g – 364 gems… THOSE were the good old days.
Some cool armies ruined by a salad cover. Then the most obvious and predictable ending, an Elder Dragon was awaken.
Lets see after all the feedback after the original personal story how they will develop this new elder dragon.
For all those posting specific feedback. Thank you it is very helpful.
I don’t know how ‘This change stinks, please put it back the way it was’ isn’t specific enough.
Because that would be recognizing they did it wrong the first time and its probably his neck on the rope giving excuses why it failed to begin with. Minor tweaks won’t resolve this but will probably silence the complains about it. I hope people keep complaining about it.
(Most) People want to feel like they earned their legendary, not bought it directly with gems—>gold (or massive farming) or just got super lucky with drops.
I wish we had some sort of long, solo, hard, instanced quest that just couldn’t be zerked to victory.
It’s good that they are letting us craft them finally, but if it is going to cost as many t6 (or 7) mats and/or lodestones as a legendary that doesn’t really solve the problem.
I agree, such a quest would be the best solution. It should be very hard however, much like Liadri was in the Queen’s Gauntlet (of course with better visibility).
and maybe not one-shot/time-gated fight? perhaps they’d like to include lag victims this time (like anyone who lives far from the servers).
I just meant to refer to a difficulty level, not the exact same fight. Of course it should be possible to complete no matter where in the world you live, as well as being able to take as long as you want to.
If you want to take eight hours to defeat it, by all means, you should be able to do that.
Indeed
They didn’t give me a chance to tire Liadri up so we can talk about her issues and why she is so mad
Reduce the hips and you will have a Norn that cant even hold his own weight.
Seriously, the last thing we need is anime looking Norns. Let Norns be Norns and play skinny humans if you choose Vogue models to be your toon.
Reduce the hips… pttsss..
around 15 real life friends joined this game with me at closed beta… around 5 more joined within the first 2 weeks.
Only 2 returned after they all quit somewhere between the first 3-5 months after release.
Those 2 haven’t log back in a month already…
they loved the game…
loved…
I’m afraid we’ve already seen the best of GW2.
This is kind of a must for a soon to be truly dead zone…
events and stuff scaled for lots of players, nobody goes there since the only end game is fractals :S
