For some of us, the ranked queue button may as well say “match me with the challenged”. You can’t control what the matchmaker gives you; some games you might get god’s gift to pvp, and the next game you may as well have been matched with a toddler on a unicycle.

But there is one thing, one variable you can control – your own gameplay. Sometimes you are just too frustrated with your teammates to see your own mistakes; mental exhaustion due to perceived mistakes does do that to you.

Consider this thread.

The OP had repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with his teammates, to the point he was convinced that he was doing nothing wrong, and to prove his point, he put up a video , which, quite frankly, as quoted by “new players are cancer”: some of the worst gameplay i’ve ever watched.

The reason I bring up that thread is because it contains THE most constructive criticism I’ve ever seen on this forum, in spite of OP defending his very very subpar play. Now, this isn’t an attack on that thread’s OP, but the amount of players willing to help him before and after the video drastically changed, and the majority of those helpful players were diamonds/legends.

Based on the above, I feel that if people were more willing to share footage of their gameplay, they would receive more help and would be able to climb faster.

Might I recommend Fort-Aspenwood?

Our North American presence is well established, and we have at least 1 60 man zerg moving across borderlands the entire day. Our oceanics however, are quite hit or miss because some nights it’s uA’s guild missions and sometimes AVTR takes a night off. However, with the leader of our largest oceanic guild by far coming back from a 2 month hiatus, our oceanic presence does outmatch Sea of Sorrow’s by a large mile. When the matchups were TC/DB/FA, our oceanic was by far our most consistent timezone.

Our SEA is indeed one of our weaker timeslots, but not by alot. With DPS coming in a few months back, our SEA presence has increased phenomenally and we can hold our own during SEA primetime against the likes of DB, provided we have another server with similar SEA coverage to us (ex. TC). Our SEA community is still growing, with militia commanders stepping up so DPS doesn’t need to turtle our BL so much anymore.

Admittedly, I don’t think we actually have 1 fully fledged european guild, but with school out, we have a commander from [RET] running WxP trains all day covering for our European presence. However, since any other server that’s not TC or T1 doesn’t have much of an European presence anyway, this isn’t a problem.

Lastly, we queue 2 maps on average (EB + a BL) and maybe 3 on good nights. We always have 1 empty borderland that needs an organized force on it. We also have a community Ts3. Hope you choose Fort Aspenwood as your new home, we could really use you when we get into tough matches later on.

Edit : If Fort Aspenwood is not your target destination, may I recommend SoS, JQ or TC? Honestly, I would say DB, but a lot of their “old guard” has left because of newer transfers and they may implode like what happened to kaineng

Now, I’m expected to cross 3 divisions and buy wings. I don’t have the tickets for wings and there is no way I’m going to cross 7 divisions in the two remaining seasons. It’s taken me from day 1 to today to get to Sapphire T3.

If you were stuck in emerald last season, and sapphire this season, then I don’t know what to say. You must be the lowest of the low. You can’t even lose tiers in those leagues.

So all that work is for pretty much nothing. THE ACHIEVES DON’T CARRY TO NEXT YEAR, SO THIS IS A COMPLETE WASTE. I feel like I got led into trying an impossible task just to be another body in pvp for the elites to beat on.

It’s almost as if there’s more to playing PvP then just the wings.

On the one hand, anet doesn’t want divisions to be grindable. On the other, they require division crossing to get the wings.

If it is anet’s attitude that players should be stuck in “deserved” divisions, then they must intend that getting the wings will be impossible for a majority of players. This is true because of the division cross requirement. That being the case, there’s no real motivation for the vast majority to play. The system is self evidently created to prevent most from ever getting there.

Completely wrong – every player IS able to achieve the wings. It just depends on the amount of actual effort they want to put in to the game. Grinding games != getting better. Actively trying to improve your play, playing in dueling servers/OS, watching rotations, etc.

I played twice against at least one and probably two members of PZ in Sapphire within the past couple of days. They were on alts. I took screen shots and posted part of them on another thread.

PZ players aren’t robots designed to play GW2 perfectly. They are good, yes, but far from unbeatable.

That being said, why don’t you record your gameplay? I’m sure a lot of us “elitists” here would love to be proven correct about this being a L2P issue.

Casuals shouldn’t get the backpiece

I came here back in december from CD because I was impressed with their tactics. I’m still an active WvWer to this day, with no burnouts and all I can say is this server is amazing.

People want to avoid class stacking because more often than not, the team with 3 DHs loses the game.

Not because class stacking is an unfair advantage.

I was a legend last season, I’ve only recently started playing ranked again and climbed out of sapphire pretty quick.

I went 3-3 on the first day of the season against ESL players and decided to wait for them to climb so I could just winstreak up

One of the best before they left GW2. Excited to see how hard their reformed roster punches.

At this point, I’d rather get 2v1’d again to get action on the maps. BG seems dead because there’s no action, which causes people to log out, cause we’d rather do anything else other than karma training (I tag up for fights, fights end, half my group logs off). Groups from YB and JQ are just karma training empty borderlands thinking they’re hot stuff, complaining about us zerging them down with 10-15 man groups calling them “blobs”, all the while bunkering in keep lords rooms with siege.

If you want BG to play again, bring us fights without siege. Most of us won’t even care if we’re vastly outnumbered.

@Torqued: You seem bitter that BG won’t respond to your requests to push PPT. Guess what buddy, we’re not here to play for you. We’re here to play for us. If you want to play PPT, tag up and do it. Don’t expect someone else, who has no desire to want to play for PPT, to play that way.

Regardless of your perception of my attitude, the fact is that Blackgate is actively driving away PPT players and putting themselves at a disadvantage. Blackgate will never beat Yak’s Bend until they are willing to become like Yak’s Bend.

You don’t know how PPT works, regardless of all those number crunching stuff you do (good work on those btw, they’re interesting to look at, despite not having any real relevance in the current WvW climate).

Why don’t you explain to me how PPT works? I’m always open to learning something new. What is my data missing that is so important? Server politics?

PPT isn’t a function (right now) of organisation and skill, but rather, of time and numbers. The more numbers you have on at any given time means that you’ll naturally get more PPT.

If you log in at any time outside of NA prime on BG you’ll notice this. Our small groups are backcapping as fast as they can, but due to lack of numbers, our PPT suffers. We lack numbers because people aren’t willing to put the time into WvW right now due to the lack of incentives to win and the lack of rewards while playing.

But then, I don’t think anyone on BG ever saw you put more hours in-game to help out our weaker time slots.

Maybe if Blackgate didn’t have such a sour attitude towards pugs and pve players they would have MORE people to put in those hours and there would be no grind. But alas, Blackgate is a “skilled fight” server and have chased away all those no skill pvd players.

Your inability to get the coverage speaks volumes about your server culture.

I really don’t understand your posts Torqued, it just seems bitter, and like your mad at BG because we play for fun..and we don’t devout all our time towards something we find meaningless, unrewarding, and not fun…

You are entitled to your opinion, or in this case, confusion. Don’t confuse my engagement in a larger argument as bitterness towards BG. I left BG because I didn’t like the culture the old guard created. As a person that is interested in playing the game that Anet created, sitting on BG and listening to the whining about how Anet ruined everything was getting tiring.

If you are confused, its because you don’t understand that others can enjoy things that you don’t. In this case, I enjoy games when I’m trying to win them. I don’t enjoy listening to stories of the glory days and how we could win if we wanted to. Put up or shut up. I don’t care about how awesome Blackgate was … I want to play the game.

BG’s toxic attitude towards PvD, siege humping “cancerous” game play is evidence that you don’t approve of others that enjoy different things. BG is bitter that Anet has ignored them and not provided them a “skill-based” WvW. which is about as idiotic a request that I could imagine.

Large scale warfare is not about fair fights. Its about coordination, communication, community, resources, alliances, “coverage”, morale, inspiration and RAW NUMBERS. You don’t have to believe me, but I would direct you to a history book. Warfare has always been a numbers game. And as the scope of the conflict grows the possibility of a fair fight dissolves and guerrilla tactics take over.

The servers that make the rational choices within the current game mechanics will push up and those that don’t will fall.

I’d just like to point out that some of the most “elitist” servers (namely BG, Mag, JQ, ) are the most active and coordinated servers in NA so your claim that exclusivity and elitism are a detriment to WvW is not very well founded. Historically, the servers that have been the most, for the lack of a better term, “carebear” have fallen dramatically (IoJ, TC come to mind.)

The practice of requiring TS to join certain squads is prevalent because it is the most optimal way to play the game. No commander needs to cater to the specific individual regardless of how “special” the individual might think they are. Everyone is subject to this. If other players refuse to use TS or can’t use it and aren’t invited to squad, why should you? I for one support the TS requirement in all at least semi-serious squad.

Additionally, not only the right end of the bell curve can play multiple classes. Do you really want MM to choose your team comp for you?

Use that triple meditation DPS build. It does metric tons of damage while having good condi clear and sustain. Great in fight mobility too.

I know a lot of guilds like to run without a tag so they can gvg and have fun as a guild in general, i get that, and have no problem with it.
But when its a major guild are you’re the primary zerg in that borderland, would it kill you to stop being such excluding kittens? Throwing on a commander tag gets you all the “pubbies,” yes, but the pug people might just play this game casually and can still be very skilled at wvw. So for the good of your server, just throw a kitten tag on man!
