Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Taygus.4571

I like the idea of the new trait system although I already had every class at 80 so I only have to unlock 5 traits on each class. That being said they should really think about making the unlocks account bound being as it is the same feats required to unlock the traits on every class. Even just needing the 5 new traits on every class it is taking pretty long due to the mega server and the temples and events required always being completed. I could not imagine unlocking every trait on all classes as a player starting today, it would be a nightmare.

yeah I think alot of people wouldnt mind it so much if they were acc.bound, doing the same unlock over and over again…..blah boring, and puts me off alts anyway. I’m sure it puts others off as well

Greater penalties for Death

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Taygus.4571

Taygus.4571

If you really want a penalty then do it yourself. Reroll on death, buy an Orichalcum Mining Pick and destroy it, salvage your armor when it breaks, nothing is stopping you.

Why can’t we have a relaxed and fun game? Why everything must be hard and mean?

The more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that the people promoting death penalties actually don’t want them for themselves but for the “less worthy” players around them. The mindset expressed in several of the posts in this thread talks about “forcing people to improve”, but I doubt the people actually consider themselves among those who have to seriously improve to not be hit hard by the penalties.

It may just be an unconcious reaction, but most (if not all) of the pro-death-penalty arguments I have seen in this post come down to “I want better rewards than the worthless casual over there who can’t even survive”.

Yeah, it’s what it sounds like to me.

Why don’t they go play the numerous challenging games out there, and leave this game alone.

afk’ing , is NOT playing.
You cannot call it a playstyle, because they are not playing.

I’m not talking about those that might go there and chat or TP.

The majority place their character there and then go do something else.
Probably work or clean. They are not playing. It’s not about play how you want, they are actively NOT playing, while taking a spat in the map.

The force the rest of us to fail. Like I said if 30 or so players are afk, it’s next to impossible to get 1200 saved. Often reaching 900 or so, but never 1200.

This isn’t fair, and the people who afk, don’t care that they’re making it impossible for those actually playing.

I may be strange, but I would be all for a subscription option in GW2. Not p2w (I hate that) but along the lines of some perks. Maybe some gems a month? Maybe like other MMOs do and some kind of loyalty program. Maybe a buff of some sort. Who knows. Maybe with a steady stream of income they could push out content or whatnot faster.

I have no problem opening my wallet for something I enjoy and supporting a company that gives me that enjoyment.

ArenaNet gave me many years of value entertainment in GW1. I expect that to continue in GW2 and I am sure it will.

Thanks for a great game where we can simply take in the sights and be left in awww.

What’s stopping you putting 10 or 20$ per month on gems?

I don’t understand this thinking.

“I want a subscription” but won’t buy gems monthly.

If anet went subbed. (in any shape). I would quit playing. and I do buy gems here in there.
I just don’t support p2p. Even b2p, for an online was something I had not done before. I have no problem spending cash on the game. I don’t want them to ‘need’ to.

I like that I can pay cash when I want and get something from it.
But none of this, if you don’t pay monthly, you’re losing out.

It’s also one of the reasons I love that anet doesn’t give better deals on gems the higher amount of cash you pay. Like many other games do, I feel more comfortable just dropping less (more frequently.) then thinking. “I should really pay the large sum for the better deal”.

This kind of model works best for people who are cautious with their spending. And I love it.

Because you and nearly everybody else who wants one wasn’t lucky, that’s why it’s 1000g.

I don’t care tbh, I’m busy on my ascended crafting.

but the point still stands, people wouldn’t be bothered so much if they could go to npc and hand over 1000g for a pre, it’s paying others your hard in cash because they were lucky.

The problem with this event is not the event itself, and players are only a fraction of the problem.

What we are missing for this kind of content that requires more coordination are the proper tools to be able to monitor and complete it.
Commander tags just don’t do it properly for this one and can too easily be used to troll.

A simple improvement that could do wonders would be to display ALL the bosses life bars at the same time regardless of the zone you’re in.
So if you see a life bar that does not go down, go there !

A second one would be to have the number of players in each area displayed as well, but I doubt that is even possible.

That would be a giant step in the right direction for every player.

All they need to make this possible is add a colour buff that you need to get to fight the boss in the arena you’re in, you can change colour buff at any time, by going to another arena.
We’ve seen that they can tell how many people have the colour buff. This plus your idea… would help strongly for the organisation.

I think people are also kittened off with having to pay for an event…>.>

It’s the inevitable conclusion to all that is good. People will find ways to exploit and use minimum effort to get what they want.

AFKers and uplevel leechers are two of the most prevalent groups that will usually make any Gold Medal map implode into obscurity. I just had it happen today with what was initially a TTS map.

There really isn’t any solution for this aside from making these events a large group instance, which I don’t see this ever happen considering pretty much nothing in this game is like that (I guess you can say WvW and EotM is kind of like that, but still you can’t really control your guild members getting in at all).

You can’t really blame uplevels.
Some of those people are actually new, and have as much right to experience the blitz as you do.

Unless you looked outside of the game, I don’t even remember rallying being explained in-game.

It’s not.

I reached level 60 before I fully understood the down state. I never played a game with it. (or anything like GW2.)
I never felt I had time to read the downstate skills, I used to cycle through them and try healing..

It was reading the forums and guildmates, who taught me what I was meant to do.

And I know to many players that’s like “how dumb do you have to be”. But not every players has a gaming background and what they do, could be totally different.

I didn’t know about traits until I happened upon the merchant and I thought “what’s this??” Click -buy~use….“OHHH”.

The fact is, anet knows the numbers, clearly they thought that there was enough players who don’t know how to play…or didn’t learn about it when they should, there’s enough that it made sense for anet to put the time into changing things.

QFT

There really ins’t a good way to describe ‘casual’ vs ‘hardcore’ since it does vary a bit from person to person.

One person will classify ‘casual’ as anyone that can’t sink 8+ hours a day into the game.
Another will classify casual as someone that desires to simply play for fun.
Another may classify casual as someone that simply wants to enjoy some ‘easy mode’ content.
Some classify casuals as anyone that doesn’t play pvp.

Trying to label groups in a black and white manner simply doesn’t work (and really just shouldn’t be done). There truly are too many variables that create a grey area. Human beings and their actions really aren’t that simple.

Personally, I would consider myself a ‘casual’ player. I put in between 12 and 20 hours a week. I do dungeons. I do Teq, Wurm, and Marionette. I enjoy a challenge. Do occasionally stick my nose into wvw or spvp from time to time (only to endure some absolutely terrible verbal abuse which chases me away for a bit, but that’s neither here nor there for this convo). By other people’s definitions, that might define me as more ‘hardcore’ than ‘casual’ because I do enjoy a challenge. Because I do think about my build and my gear; though not to the extent of most min-maxers. Where as to some serious min-max speed runners, I’m a casual ‘carebear’ because I don’t min max. Because I don’t speed run. Because I don’t play the stack and smack gimmick.

Everyone sees it differently.

Put it this way.
How about labelling games causal/hardcore. Thats easier right?
This Sims, Fable, Angry Birds..none of these would be considered hardcore…and neither will their players. Of course there are some that can enjoy both, but this is uncommon.
Casual players generally prefer casual games.

Now what makes these games casual? One reason is they’re ‘come and go’ games, jump in when you want, stuff don’t take major hours to complete. Do what you want, the challenges are minimal.
Even as far as Dragon Age Easy , or DA on a harder setting, would you not say the player on the higher difficulty is more hardcore than the player using easy?

Yes hardcore/casual definition can change per player, but less so per game. And this then somewhat defines what a player is.
Guild Wars 2 is a casual game.
There are many players here who never played another MMO, many who only play GW2. There also many who haven’t played others games or such. This is for the casual players. I would say more so then in other MMO’s
You don’t often see them in the forum, because they are happy, satisfied and challenged enough by the content in game.

Like the game for what it is… don’t try to change it to match other MMO’s.

I didn’t notice a real change in PuG before or the Queensdale champ farm. Some people were terrible back then, some people are terrible right now and they don’t see any reason why the should become better at this game (a lot of the times, they don’t even know how bad they are until they are stuck on a platform during the Marionette with 4 other bad players and they wipe and blame each other).

This, doing my first dungeon made me see how important it is to dodge/block, but you can’t really learn those things til you try them out.
If experienced players have an issue with n00bs, try teaching/explaining. I think most are open to listening/learning. Giving out to them for “being useless n00bs” (which you see alot) won’t make them better players.

And then of course there are some that don’t won’t to learn, but I think most are willing to listen, if you don’t go on the attack first.

This is greed. Log in, or pay. Vs a sub based game where you pay 50 cents a day for a month(15 dollars a month) and get all content ever released. I can log into WoW right now and go do Baradin Hold dallies from 2 years ago.

Not turning this into sub vs free game argument. But I do think its crap that arenanet made the conscious decision to place this content behind gems(even if its 200), instead of making it free like they said it always would be.

I haven’t logged in to play for weeks, I dont plan on it for another few months. When I return, if I ever return(cuz Wildstar is awsome), I’ll be so far behind that I’ll need to dish out the $$. Or, I have to remember every other week to log in. Like a freakin’ chore.

Actually…just pay if you miss it then, just like a sub, I’d much rather log in twice a month and get it free, and never have to pay a single dime. Thank you.

Dungeon Instance Owner change FTW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Taygus.4571

Taygus.4571

There’s one thing that really worries me about this. I normally open my own instances to “protect” me I guess. I’ve had one run once, with 4 others, all of the same guild. The run had some major failings and mistakes.
With this system they can just kick me (because we can’t blame other guildies of course >> ….) without any repercussions.

Another time half way through the dungeon I had to brb for 5 min, and the party members talked of kicking me, but realised not to because I was the instance owner.

I’m not sure this change is an improvement.

If the instant owner LEAVES, then it should pass on to another player. It should not pass on if the instance owner is kicked.
__
It also could be potentially troublesome for dungeon sellers. Who might kicked after their solo run.

I think putting this in place without setting up some safety measures to prevent kick abuse is a bad idea.

Err did they also reduce the damage that the Knights take from direct attacks? I’m in full zerks and I was doing pitiful amounts of damage compared to before.

I was with a group of 35 trying to take down the Red Knight and we couldn’t even get it past 50% health despite everyone playing consistently well and everyone always having the buff.

What’s going on?

Everyone in the instances I was in was saying that condition damage was gone – as in G O N E.

Post patch, patch, patch, the problems are myriad and go in so many directions that this one issue has many threads with the serious problems and feelings of being given less than what was intended.

All of us should have been given a gift for not getting a single loot for the many times we DID get those knights down. :’(

I’m using Necro-condition build. I spend 50% of the fight rezzing players. And I always get either a silver/gold medal.
I was as upset over this condition reflect, but it’s not so bad.

I still use my scepter, but I manage it so as not to get too many conditions on me.(I’m also using plague signet, which throws on other players conditions to me..)

I have NOT changed my build, nor my weapons. It’s very doable, and it doesn’t require tiddling your thumbs for 50% of the fight, you just need to play support.

Firstly, there are no “home servers”.

Secondly, my guild organises for it about 20-30min early, so it’s not that long a camp either.

The main reason teq is failing, is there’s a load of people who just want to press 1 and don’t realise/refuse to listen/ask about what to do.

It is very important to have defence parties, but a party at each defence spot, you don’t 20 people at one.
And to have people manning the turrets and 2 people (the defence party also helps) protecting them.

Then you have the zerg, that absolutely MUST stay together when fighting teq, you have to kill fingers, and guards should spam reflect,

And then of course, there’s the dead who just lie there rather than wp and swim back. Because lord paying under 2silver for being bad enough to die is such an expense.

rude players should not have all the power. This change is justified. Deal with it.

The problem is, this gives every rude player ALL the power.

You see the faults in this system right?..no?

The kick system needs to be changed before this change is implemented. Nobody should be afraid to pug because of being kicked on a whim.

It was already risky enough starting a run with 2 or more players of the same guild. (not your own.).
Now EVEN the opener isn’t safe to abuse, something people used to at least be able to count.

(and in most cases the dungeon opener is the party “leader”/group organiser. And should be,)
There needs to be someone who is the leader of a party. It’s just too open to trolls now.

(I do think if the leader LEAVES….the instance should always pass on, because that’s annoying too.)

I had fun doing new pavillion with TTS. Coordinated, we were easily able to obtain gold 4x in a row and it only takes 6 mins + about 4 min set up. Unfortunately, once again, the majority of players are just going to zerg it (not focus the turret on boom boom, for example, kitten why boss no die?) and thus abandon it. Fun for the bigger guilds though and the rewards aren’t great but when you complete every 10 min not so terrible either.

Perhaps a getting ‘gold’ achieve would inspire people to figure out the mechanics instead of wanting the zergfest back but then people would just complain its too hard to get. I for one prefer harder content but wish there was a better way to organize people other than spam map chat or hope for 6 pins to tag up so you can take on all bosses at once instead of zerging.

The problem is majority of people arent in such guilds, and anet has added no mechanics for people to know what boss to go to.

What I mean is, you as a person cant see where people are in this event. and if they’re all zerging one, you could go to another, but you’d find yourself solo,

In saying that, there were about 30 people tops doing this event earlier today…. and yeah, they zerged…because no body really cares… events like this should force/activate map chat for people who have it off too.

FOTM alone is makes less than 1% of the whole the available PvE content hence gets played far less.

And I’ve never heard of Lord Of The Rings online.
Provide the same info with Wildstar.

It’s been provided for Guild Wars 1 and WoW. Can’t give you info on Wildstar, but I’d bet that if the game doesn’t attract and hold casuals the game will end up with a very small player base.

Do you guys not listen to what devs have said from different games over the years?

You think GW2 has a massive player base? (not including china) I would be shocked if theres even close to 50k concurrent players at peak times in EU+NA

Regardless, the point I think is that there is MORE THAN ENOUGH casual content in this game already.
What on earth could possibly drive away more players than it already has to add just something remotely challenging content or revamp dungs to add a harder mode with better rewards? even if everyone can’t do it, its something to progress towards. compared to other terrible forms of progression this game has.

Right..
how often id lv50 fractals completed?
Do you play lv50 fracs? in zerk ascended gear?

How often does arah get completed? (can you solo arah? )
or TA aetherblade path?

The majority of the community don’t want to even aim to be able to complete them.

And most importantly, for the hardcore players, how long do these dungeons stay challenging?

Really? You are using Fractals lv50 as if it was EVEN close to a good dungeon! For you to even get to level 50 you have to play the same fracts over, and over, and over, and over, and over and over! With the same boring-kitten mechanics and same scenarios OVER AND OVER again. People don’t play lv50 fracs not because they are too hard to do, but because nobody feels like grinding the same scenarios over and over again just so that later they can do the same scenario but slightly harder.

How is that not Endgame??
Endgame is by definition repeating the same dungeon every week until you have the gear to progress to the next level.
Just because Fractals don’t match YOUR idea of endgame, does not mean it isn’t Anet’s idea of endgame.

If you don’t like it then their are a plethora of other games that offer conventional endgame.

Fractals are probably one of the worse dungeon instances out there (from every MMO).

well, now your just in the land of personal opinion. If you dont like fractals, what makes you think you would like any dungeons they ever make?

CoF, Ascalonian Catacombs are pretty good

LOL, picks the easiest dungeons in game. LOL,

(and I pointed out about Dark Souls, that there are more casual games, than hardcore games. Tell me, why is that? )

Are you actually implying that there is any hard dungeon in this game?
And that’s not true. And still I don’t know who keeps thinking that endgame = hardcore but sure.
The games making more success atm are the ones that are challenging and with high replay value.

You’re the one who keeps pointing out hardcore endgame. Not I. I pointed out how everything in this game IS endgame to me.

Secondly, there are challenging dungeons, if there weren’t pugging for them would be easy.
The first time some of dungeons were done, were quite difficult, as you get to know them, they become easier, which proves my point, made in comments above.

All the same, you picked the 2 dungeons, just about everyone does, because they are easy and quick..and yet you want challenging content?

Anyway, it’s clear from your posts, even you don’t really know what you want, so I’m leaving this discussion. Hope you find a game that has the endgame you want.

New TP: no net profit = bad design

the fact they recognize it needed changing is a plus. and they do show more important stuff now. but it’s not complete. Ideally it would look like this:

sell 250 of xyz for [1g23s45c] each:
Total: 308g62s50c
Listing Fee: 15g43s13c
Final Sale Tax: 30g86s25c
Expected Profit: 262g33s12c

before, they had just the listing fee and expected return (total – final sale tax)
now they have all but the expected profit
maybe the next update they’ll have all of them?

Lol.

People complained about expected profit not showing all fees. Anet took that to mean, we weren’t happy to have expected profit calculated for us.

=.=;

higher population servers = more lag.

Certain world events will require waiting to play in on higher pop. servers.(be it your home server or not. Just look at all the overflow threads)
The only major differance between servers, is NA region can’t guest in EU, and vice-versa, but any EU can guest to any other EU .(limited to 2 servers per day).

Other than that, you might want to choose your server, based on role playing, or hardcare/casual., general player attitude.

For Necro, just use the search function, there’s alot about necromancer, and they seem to fair quite well, with various builds.

Any class, is worth playing if you enjoy it. It doesn’t really matter which class you pick in this game, once you understand how to set it up. (and of course what you enjoy to play most)

You bring anything that you placed in your personal bank and your wallet. That is all.

[Suggestion] Infinite Gathering tools per alt

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Making the proposed change would also reduce the incentive for them to make new ones. For instance, I have all 9 of the unlimited gathering tools currently released, so I get to have them on 3 alts. There’s an extra sort of convenience factor in doing that. If they could just be endlessly replicated, that aspect would disappear that would make purchases of the newer tools less desirable.

I think the suggestion does make sense in principle, but they want that convenience factor to be absent so that there’s still some incentive to buy the new tools they release.

Although admittedly, I mostly buy them just because I want to support the game

Well there’s always gems to gold to support the game :P.

As it is, I won’t be buying anymore infinite tools. They are very annoying to move from alt to alt and as such spend most of their time on my “mining” char.

I know many others look at infinite tools go “yeah, don’t have to buy but..still have to swap it, so still annoying.”. There’s alot of people who don’t buy them because. If you hop from alt to alt.(and I do so, often.) They’re actually more annoying than just using ori tools. and keeping 2 in inventory everytime you pass a merchant.

At this rate...a big let down.

Why are people so salty?

I logged out for more than a year and when I came back the game was the same as when I left.

LS2 is a great step forward compared to LS1, judging by what we have now, but we do NOT know what the future brings, so how ckittenay that logging off for 1 year gives players an expansion worth of content? You can’t.

Anyway, that is not the main point of post. It’s an improvement so I’m fine with that.

However, when you see people ask for an expansion they mean content that enhances the game(play). You know, stuff like weapon skill and utility skill balances (Not just tooltips and some numbers, but actual changes). Lets be honest, there are so many weapons that serve no purpose in any environment since launch.

People want new maps, weapons, dungeons etc. and not to mention in game rewards that are rewarded for play not bought with gold.

Currently farming gold is the end game, but I do think that gold should be important and I’m fine with the gem store, but right now the gem store is end game. This made champion and EOTM trains end game (cause all that matters is where u get gold and karms the quickest). How is this healthy gameplay. Spamming 1/AoE in a group as end game instead of dungeons/events and PvP battlegrounds…. we NEED an expansion to fix the many design errors that are in the game.

Right, because it takes an expansion to do that.

Isn’t the new LS account bound weapons a step to changing that?

yes, I agree LS1 doesn’t count as expansion because of it’s temp content. Which is a problem for most people. This isn’t the case.
LS2 should be more like an expansion. Without the need of an actual expansion. (something I much prefer. )

Mini Orange Kitten

well at 400 gems it better \=

It’s terribly inconsistent, which is why I wanted to know.

The plush griffon used to, then it couldn’t, with a developer saying it was “immersion breaking”, which aside from being a great pun, is just plain silly. It’s laziness.

The mini black bear, lion and white kitten from last March’s “here’s a pet a week, hope you all go broke” event all swim.

The awesome puppy (was that from around the holiday? I forget.) does ‘not’ swim. He’s basically the same frame as the lion cub. What is up with that?

So thus my question, and hope for proof, before I get the pet.

That’s funny considering that I can do deep sea combat with a cat at my side when playing ranger.

While I don’t think that it makes sense for a dog to go scuba diving either, it’s just plain bizarre that the designers find it perfectly rational for the cat to be totally water friendly, while the dog is totally hydrophobic.

But yea, a mini pet being able to follow you underwater would totally break immersion. (sarcasm)

LOL, that is funny.

And of all the things that could break immersion in this game, I really doubt the mini is one of them …oh anet you’re an odd bunch.

(I really agree about the mechanics, I have hope that witht he new hero panel, there’s a chance they could odd a mini pet slot thats always active., and maybe also be able to switch your mini without having to go to bank.
Probably wishful thinking, but it’d really make minis more worth while.)
