Wanze’s point was that “the majority of the players” didn’t want the default to be the lowest sell price, and so ANet changed it. The only metric by which they could gather such data, particularly within such a short turnaround, would be by listening to people on the forums. Many of the people active on the forums that discuss the TP are the serious TP baron types, who of course would not want mechanisms that would make it easier for newbs to maximize their profits and minimize the TP baron’s margins. I mean, how profitable would the typical short term flip be if nobody ever filled buy orders unless the margins were negligible? It would be a nightmare for people who live as parasites on their fellow players, while at the same time meaning an average of 15-20% more TP gold per week for the average player.
It would make absolutely no difference in convenience or selling time, it takes no longer to place a sell order than to fill a buy order, the only difference is that it might take a little bit longer for the gold to materialize, and most players are not living so close to the margins that they absolutely need their TP returns right that minute. There is no plausible reason why the average player would not benefit from having the “sell order” price be the default option, but it would certainly upset the oligarchs.
Feel free to check my post history regarding the change. I always posted that i rather have the lowest listing as default or give players the option to choose, if lowest listing or highest bid will be their default sales price. If you claim that certain people advocate certain changes, please provide quotes to back it up before insulting them.

Thank you for your reply, Dengar! It is my feeling, as well. Unfortunately, there has been a couple let-downs lately, and I do think as you do; we must voice it! Hopefully, that will be sooner than later; I want to be ready for the raids.
The first raid wings they will introduce dont need you to be in ascended gear.
And i would guess that by that time they introduce the final wings that need ascended gear, you will have enough drops of random ascended armor and weapon boxes from the first wings, wvw, pvp or lower level fractals, to have a full ascended built as you can change the stats on ascended gear for a cost that equals the cost of an exotic set.

1/2
2/2
t5 leather is mostly used for crafting ascended gear and even more so with the new grandmaster mark system, where it accounts for at least 25% (tailor/armorsmith/artificer/weaponsmith) to over 50% (leatherworker/huntsman marks) of the overall material costs.
As those marks dont need any t6 leather at all, players who intent to craft ascended gear or grandmaster marks to get it via the new vendors, should be way more concerned with the rising price of t5 leather, which already tripled within the last 2 months and lost 2/3 of its supply listings on the tp.
But at least, that drops quite frequently from the leather farm.
Many players claim that the implementation of the leather farm has failed and it isnt working as intended but I think that is mostly because most players had different intentions for the leather farm than Anet to begin with. The players expected the prices to fall drastically but Anet just wanted to give players the opportunity to target farm leather of all tiers. That way, supply is more elastic in demanding times and the players can easier regulate the prices themselves. But as long players are able and willing to farm other content because they earn more gold per hour there to buy their leather from the tp, prices will keep climbing. And lets not forget that in the past 2 months, demand for leather from the player base was probably way higher than the 2 months before, when everbody was still farming ABML and not many players were making new builds or crafting new gear.
Since february, we have seen alot of releases, which resulted in new demand for build changes, first the new raid wing and grandmaster marks, then the balance patch. On top of that, I think alot of new players, which picked up the HoT on sale during Dec/Jan, might have started leveling their crafts and working on their first ascended sets, either through traditional crafting or grandmaster marks in feb/mar.
And I dont see that diminishing in the near future. SAB certainly doesnt create new demand for leather (or other common mats) but it keeps a good chunk of the player base from other content, which drops consirably more leather than SAB, so even if demand might go down over the coming weeks as players finish their builds, new supply is probably going down as well, compared to the weeks and months before SAB started. And in 4 weeks or so, we will have the next episode of LS and legendary armor coming out, which might be another huge leather sink, if the grandmaster marks are used to complete the collection for the precursor armor or instead of the collection for additional legendary armor sets.

If you want to become an artificer, you have to talk to the Master Artificer next to the crafting station. He will offer a dialogue like: Teach me to be an artificer.
If you accept, Artificer will be one of your active crafting professions (you can have 2 professions active per character).
If you want to check, which profession you have active atm, go to your hero panel and select the crafting tab. Once you done that, you can select the profession on top to check your progress, if you have 1 or 2 professions active. If you go to the artificer station, you have 5 tabs on the left.
The first is for discovery, which allows you to discover recipes which you havent learned yet and that dont need a recipe sheet to learn.
The 2nd is the crafting panel, where all recipes are listed that you learned until now.
The 3rd is your bank tab that shows your account bank storage and the 4th is the collectible tab, where you can find the crafting materials that you deposited.

Hi guys,
When on Trading Post was Molten Alliance Mining Pick for 800 gems I bought it. Now Arena Net add Dreamcleaver Logging Axe which costs 1k gems. Arena Net, If another tools will costs 1k gems I want 500 (not 400) gems in Massive Achievement Chest. Ok, but players whose reached more than 5k Achievement Points may feel very, very bad. So… You should lower price of gathering tools back to 0,8k gems.
The gathering tools are account bound now, hence the increase in price.

Oh, I get it! People put actual facts in front of you, and you simply choose to see what you want to see. No wonder these arguments never go anywhere. The people who are wrong just make kitten up!
August 10 – 1351g
Sept 10 – 1313g
Oct 10 – 1225g
Nov 10 – 1305g
Dec 10 – 1339 gThat is in now way a steady decline. Not only you’re neglecting the previous 2 years of data, but you’re also ignoring the fact that it cost over 1300g.
I think there are some billy goats trying to cross your bridge.
You are ignoring the fact that 1351g>1339g.
Those prices are with a variation of 10% incredibly stable. In the same timeframe, ectos and t6 mats variated mostly around 20%, t5 mats over 40%So, someone accuses you of cherry picking and lying, and your response is…cherry picking and lying? Brilliant! Thank you for only further validating my point.
I’m not ignoring anything. 1225g < 1305g <1339 g. Two of your 4 months of steady decline are steady increases. And I never said anything about T6 mats, so trying to redirect the conversation away from how wrong you are won’t get you anywhere.
Here, I don’t have the time to endlessly point your flaws. That would be a full time job. Instead of replying, simply replace what I would normally say with a random choice from https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/. I’m sure your argument will be full of whichever one you choose.
Yeah must be inflation then, i guess.
If that kind of inflation is too high for you for a precursor, you have the option to buy Rage for under 80g.

1) I think the majority of earnings on the tp come from doing tasks that other people rather not do and prefer someone else to do it for them. Be it salvaging in bulk, crafting, opening containers, farming, flipping or storing items, or having patience.
All those activities are deemed playing the game as intended and act as a gold sink when combined with selling on the TP (with lootbags the exception as they usually generate a couple of copper when opened but i think that amount is irrelevant as long as its not more than 15% of the value that comes out of the bag).
So i ask again, why not punish those with higher taxes that generate more gold than they sink?
2) At 6 or 12 months until a listing is removed, it will hardly affect anybody and considering the amount of items traded within that time, it will have next to no effect on market liquidity, your intended goal.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Why would they need an invite to their own servers?
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Far less.
I have spreadsheets on droprates (and average values) on most regular loot bags with more than 350k lootbags opened. There i can pretty accurately determine the average profit i make, if i buy 1000 bags of any kind.
With champ bags its harder to determine because some drops from them have a very low drop rate, for example the exclusive skin weapons, ascended chests and precursors.
The amount of mats dropping also varies quite a bit (from 1-10), and the pssible gear drops go into the thousands which means you need a far bigger sample size to accurately determine the average loot table.
While my calculated loot tables for loot bags became pretty accurate after a couple of thousand openings, i would have to open millions of champ bags to get an accurate figure.
There is also a difference between the average value of a champ bag and the price of it on the TP because that one is usually lower than the average value.
My educated guess would be below 10 silver plus the average coin drops from the bags as price on the tp and about 1-3 silver average profit for opening champ bags and selling its contents. That 1-3 silver profit might look high (buy 1000 bags and make 10-30g profit) but its not unreasonable, if you consider that you have to salvage alot of gear in the process, an inconvenience that many players will try to avoid.

No, just no. At least not as long as PvE and WvW shares the same system. The maps are small enough for the zergs which have 100% of uptime swiftness, don’t need to add more to their already good mobility.
Besides, if you are only mapping what is the problem in using a signet, utility or a trait? The only professions that really suffers with mobility are guardian and mesmer. Still guardian can use Save Yourselves, but mesmers only have Signet of Inspiration which can or not give swiftness.
I’m currently playing a level 21 warrior. They don’t have speed signet. The only thing I can use is the warhorn for a speed buff. I can’t use traits because they are currently locked. And besides the only trait I see that gains swiftness lets you do it in combat on critical hits. That wouldn’t help you on mapping because it would be worn off after you left combat plus you slow down for combat.
If I use travel runes I have to be level 60 before I can use them and I have to throw 6 of them on my armor. They are 7 gold a piece because only the expensive superior ones give the 25% swiftness. I’m not speeding 42 gold for +25% swiftness on level 60 armor. I’d rather spend money for runes I actually need to help with combat stats at level 80.
And if they implemented the buff i’m talking about the mesmer wouldn’t suffer anymore. No one would.
Yes I can use warhorn but I would rather run around with a bow or rifle while mapping so I can do range attacks. And I’m not really just running around discovering stuff I’m actually doing a lot of hearts and events and combat. So at my level warhorn is the only speed option that I can think of. So I’m stuck using a weapon I don’t really like if I want to run faster.
You already run 40% faster, once you are out of combat, that goes for any class.
What you want is perma swiftness for all classes while OOC.
BTW, the trait you are looking for:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Warrior%27s_Sprint
Wont work for bow/rifle.

1. Drives the in game economy.
So does Account Bound
2. Armor tailored to fit a Charr will not fit an Asura.
Apparantly not because most armors (except for cultural) can be worn by every race.
Account bound still drives demand down as you dont have to get new exotic armor for each character after you use it on one character.
And ascended armor is not point of this discussion as it is not soulbound.

As soon as you refine them, you can sell them on the tp. The 1 per day per account limit was introduced as a timegate for several reasons. It gave crafters the opportunity to make some decent gold when they sell it to people who would pay a premium to get their ascended gear faster than they can craft. Another reason was to limit consumption of the crafting materials. When ascended crafting went life, the crafting materials (wood, ore, cloth; leather not so much) all had a price spike. If there was no timegate on how much you could craft, that price spike would have been alot higher.
Ascended gear was also designed as a long term goal, so thats another reason for the timegate.

120 ecto’s for 6 pieces? what else in the crafting process takes ecto’s? The insignia take 5 each (so 30 ecto)… why are another 90 required? Unless you made 4 sets of gear…
the chest, legs, and helm take 20 ectos each, gloves, boots, and pauldrons 10 each. Like I said, I don’t feel particularly smart for doing this. It IS a HUGE waste of resources. Now that I’ve done it, and it looks like a couple others have, watch a-net go … woops we messed up. I just hope when they do I get a bunch of ectos showing up in my mailbag :-)
They didnt mess up, you did.
They talked about this in the blog posts.
Those crafted armor and weapons as well as the backpacks are intended to veteran players (425 crafting proficiency) that level their alts. These items have higher stats thats comparable on level gear and they have selectable stats. I also think they stay account bound after use, so you can use them for more alts, if you wish, but i am not 100% sure about the account bound statement.

How do you sink my gold? The couple of gold for commander tag amenities i shuffle out on the side without making a dent into my wallet. Most of your suggestions are p2w borderline anyways.
Your proposal would do little to my wealth but make it very hard for new players to become a commander or get ascended gear. Hey John! I have a question about limited time items, or items with no current way of acquisition other than the trading post. Alot of these items will continue to go up in price on the TP, the Halloween 1 skins for example, but there are also a few with no real demand for but are still unobtainable by other means. The current LS1 items are on the laurel vendor now(Which I personally thought was a very good way to deal with them). Are there any plans on re-implementing this idea on the other items that are unobtainable? Or would the re-introduction be too volitile?

Now, is this the case with silk? who knows, but we cant find out, because we cant adjust the supply.
We cant find out by adjusting supply but its not neccessary because Anet can.
They have all the metrics, of how much silk scraps and weaving threads get created per day, how much gets destroyed and how much get bought and sold at which price point.
So in the case that falling silk prices and rising silk supply dont result in added demand for damask, there is not need to further devalue it.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Not at all. It was part of my assumption, but not it’s entire basis. Gem conversion still artificially channels wealth from all over the game to a small number of items, and causes their prices to rise more than would be the case without gem conversion.
this is true whenever a precursor is bought from the tp, the gold needed to purchase it is usually collected from all over the place, it doesnt matter if someone got the gold from gems or farmed it in game.
Their price is rising due to demand, not because of the gem exchange.
If the gem exchange wouldnt exist, prices for precursors wouldnt look any different.

I know this is old (inb4 old news is old), but I recently came back to Guild Wars 2 after a long break and discovered how much of a grind Ascended gear is, and feel like writing a rant (deal with it).
It takes me 5 days to craft one Ascended weapon!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? And that’s assuming I already have all the materials required. Oh, but it only costs 500 of this and that and that. Yeah, that’s only 3 weeks of grinding dungeons, bosses, events and what else you got. For one weapon. Are you kidding me!?
So, if I have one character that uses like 6 weapons, it takes me at minimum a full month to craft all his stuff. But that’s without taking in account the time it takes to grind the Gold and the 1000s of Dragonite Ores and Empyreal Fragments required to craft them. And that’s only for one character that only uses 6 weapons. Then what about my other 4 guys, that use 6+ weapons each? I’m not even going to do the math for that.
And what if I’d like to change my character’s build at one point… what if I get bored of a certain playstyle and want to try something else without sacrificing my stats? Tough ****ing luck because you’ll have to grind another 3 months just to get your single character fully equipped again (that’s even ignoring the ridiculous amount of Transmutation Stones required if I’d want to keep my old look). And before anyone says you don’t need Ascended gear: YOU ARE WRONG. Of course you need Ascended gear, why else is it there? Why else have they have given it better stats than Exotic gear? By that logic we would not need any gear at all since people can solo dungeons not wearing any armour whatsoever. Like, durr, why do we need any armour in GW2 at all when we can clear content in our underwear?
Whichever gear gives the best stats is what we NEED.“But you get all the stuff you need while playing the game, no grind required.” Again: WRONG. What if I like playing dungeons? That doesn’t give me any Dragonite Ore (seriously, who came up with that name, anyway?) What if I don’t like world bosses? They’re just one giant lag fest making me feel like I’m watching a Powerpoint slideshow and don’t offer any satisfying gameplay since it’s just “stand in 1 place with the 100 other peoples and auto-attack away”.
So, I need to do 20 hours of world bosses for a single Ascended weapon. And you call that no grind. LOL!?!?What exactly happened to this no-grind philosophy? Why wasn’t Exotic gear good enough as a final tier of gear? It’s not like people were unable to clear any content with Exotics anyway. Ascended serves no logical purpose other than to **** off those people who don’t have the time to play 28 hours a day, 450 days a year.
While you were off to a long break, those that stayed needed something to do.
Dont expect the game and everybody in it not to move on, while you are gone.
Why should they reward your absence with faster progression?

I can’t figure out why cloth is so much more expensive than leather (despite both dropping from most of the same sources at similar rates).
Leather is only used for ascended medium armor (and asc bowstrings) while cloth is used by all 3 armor professions.
You could also craft ascended leather since September, so the supply was there before the demand.

- #12 White gold Dye
Another flipping opportunity I took advantage off that was triggered by gem store temporary gem store releases.
But the low buy order price wasnt triggered by general supply of dyes from Chests but mostly by the reintroduction of special dye kits.
This item is on the drop table of Taimis Dye Kit, which also offers the until then pricy electro dyes. When it got reintroduced, alot of people opened Taimis dye kits in order to get electro dyes. White gold dye, just like the other rare, masterwork and fine dyes also on the the loot table of that kit, flooded on the market and while most people concentrated on the electro dyes, I snatched up the other dyes for low buy orders.

I recommend waiting. The price will almost certainly drop as impatient buyers complete their collections and impatient speculators try to recoup some of their investment by unloading their over-supply.
Plus, I strongly suspect ANet will setup an actual source (even if it’s not a “faucet”).
I strongly suspected Anet to set up an actual source this year because contrary to popular belief, the decision to close all faucets (expect upgrading) for the superior wintersday runes and sigils wasnt taken this year but already at wintersday 2015, when they converted all tiers of previous wintersday gifts into the wintersay gifts we get now. The new wintersday gifts didnt have the conjurors kits or the runes and sigils on the drop table and they also disappeared from the pvp reward track last year, compared to 2014.
However, last year, nobody really complained about the fact that there arent any drop sources because there was enough supply in the economy to sustain the demand surge for the newly introduced winters presence and the big topic was the festive imbiber achi, not the non-existant new faucets for the runes and sigils.
On a macro-economic level, those runes and sigils had a way bigger impact last year compared to this year. After all, they spiked from 30 copper to 30 silver, which means 10k% ROI compared to the ROI of 1k% from 30s to 3g this wintersday.

Well, he certainly claims to be, but then he was talking about how dye prices tanked after HoT launched and how that was them “solving this,”
I never said they “solved this” because in my opinion the wasnt a problem to be solved in the first place.
I just pointed out that there was a big influx of dyes registered with HoT Launch because in your OP you suggested that Anet should have done exactly that:
“Knowing that scribes would need hundreds of brown pigment to level their craft, and that brown dye would be in short supply, they could have created a temporary faucet for those materials.”
I also wouldnt be surprised that pigment not going into the material storage for the first couple of days wasnt an oversight but intended, in order to have the player base list it on the tp first before they moved to depositing it into their storage.

Can you please elaborate on crafting trees?
Sure.
The main issue with big piles of wealth in a game like this is how it puts exclusive drops completely out of reach of ‘regular’ players; there’s basically nothing they can do to keep up with the bids for those items. They’re totally out of reach and that’s frustrating.
When you have a really, really integrated crafting system, that simply cannot happen because high value items are pegged in some way to the value of low value items; if their value starts to surge, the value of the basic materials that everyone has access to necessarily surges as well.
Precursors are an imperfect if reasonable example of how this works. The numbers are huge (creating a single precursor takes something like 70,000 common T5 materials and 30,000 T5 fine materials), but their value is in some way pegged to those. You simply cannot see precursors surge to 10k gold each without basic materials (and with it, every player’s real income) surge as well.
This is important because it doesn’t matter at all that there are people with 100,000 gold out there. If they want to buy up a ton of precursors and move prices up, they also drive up everyone’s real income (since everyone gets T5 fine and mithril). Players with 1,000,000 gold couldn’t drive everyone out of the market – as long as you’re producing mithril and elder wood and T5 fine materials, you simply cannot be pushed out of the precursor market no matter what anyone else does.
Granted, the process through which this happens is really opaque and random and a more incremental crafting system would make more sense – and the numbers are probably too high for such a system. But the point remains – the prices are constrained through crafting to everyone’s incomes.
Good post, even though i disagree with the first paragraph.
A wealthy player will obtain a precursor faster than the average player, no doubt, but after that, his demand for that item is 0 because he doesnt need it anymore, so he isnt in any competition with the average player anymore. The same goes for other rare account unlocks like dyes, skins or minis.
The crafting tree for precursors is a good and actual example since the halloween update, due to the amount of t5 fine mats dropping from the labyrinth mobs.
They lost around 1 silver in value since tuesday (bones, fangs, claws, venom sacs) and people already started forging more precursors again, which is obvious, if you consider that mithril ore gained 50% in value in the same timespan.
Elder Wood didnt move much yet but thats due to its vast supply at current value and it isnt needed as much as mithril in precursor forging.
Even if you account for mithril gaining value, this should shave off a couple of hundred gold off the prices of the most valued pres in the coming weeks.
But as you mentioned, most people dont realize that all the t5 mats they farm in the labyrinth just lost 30% value as well, so their income is diminished.

I have the same lag.
A little off topic but if you type
I am Evon Gnashblade
into the search window, the item icons in the display window will become about 2/3 smaller, so you will be able to see 3 times more items without scrolling.

They raised the price because now it is account bound. You can take your Molten Pick to the trader, make sure it’s in your bag rather than your hero panel, and exchange it for the account bound version. That way you only need one for all your alts as long as you are willing to transfer it via your bank.
If they are selling one per account rather than one per character, of course it will cost more. Even with the extra expense, you can overall spend far less on the tools with this new functionality.
I know that the tools are acc bound now. But if it still will costs 1k gems I want 100 gems more in massive achiev chest.
What does the price of permanent gathering tools have to do with gem rewards from achi chests?

This game doesnt need mounts.

Not that it matters much towards your general point but you only need 500 sprockets to make the insignia, not 1250.
If you buy the mechanisms directly from the tp, you even safe 6g compared to its crafting cost per insignia.
Apart from that, i hope you realized that you not only need the recipe for the insignia, you also need a recipe for each armor piece (or the satchel/box) from the tp, if you havent learned them yet because they cant be learned by discovery and dont drop anymore.

Quartz used to be super cheap and plentiful. If there had been no timegate then it would have too easy to flood the market with exotics (throw cheap celestial into forge).
Quartz isn’t so cheap anymore, like 1 silver per. Times 25 times 5 times 6 is 7.5 gold for a set of celestial.
Blood is still twice as expensive.
Even if you completely disregard the value of quartz, it still will cost you around 4g to craft a celestial weapon at current prices for ori, ancient wood and ectos.
The cheapest dropped exotic weapons of each weapon type are valued on the tp between 1-3g, so nobody in his right mind would start crafting exotic celestial weapons to throw them into the forge.
The same goes for armor. Even for medium celestial armor, which only uses cheap hard leather and gossamer from common mats, the 1.5g for the 5 ectos still hold more value than other cheap exotic armor on the tp, which is valued far below 1g.

I think it would be fair to make wxp ranks account bound but that should also mean that you can only allocate your rank points across all your characters not the full amount to each of them.
You have 4 characters at rank 50 each?
Feel free to spend 200 points on one character or 100 points on 2 characters each.
But dont expect to be able to spend 200 rank points on each of your alts.
