Its usually the one who asks.
Seriously, what does it matter, who bought it?

Just blame a Ranger.

I actually bought 2 stacks 4 days ago on buy order to make 2 ascended backpieces (for 32.99s on buy order). Has nothing to do with the price spike just now but the fact that they filled overnight, shows how volatile the market is.

Minimum Upbidding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

For people that want minimum increments implemented, can you explain to me, why you think this would chance anything about the fact that you will get outbid?

It seems to me that you want a way to be able to place a bid and not get outbid without having to update your buy orders.

If you think someone who outbid you a copper on a 100g item before wont outbid you 10s or 1g now, i think you will be disappointed.

You already have the chance to minimize the risk of being outbid by bidding 110g instead of 100g, so i dont see, how this system would give your bid addional security that isnt already available via personal choice now.

All it would to is increase the pace of price spikes and dumps or in demand and oversupplied items.

I dont have a problem with people wanting to outbid or undersell players on the trade house. The issue i have is that there is no balance to it. A player can jump on the trade house and instantly step in front of 5k people for the price of 1 copper. I’d rather there be limits to to how much you can undersell or outbid someone so its a fair trade off to all the players who are now having to wait behind the person choosing to jump in front of them. And this issue is not just on the bidding side of the trade house. It occurs just as much (if not more) on the selling side of the trade house which is even more of an issue imo. You cant just list all your items for dirt cheap to ensure they get bought. It would defeat the whole purpose of grinding those items to make a fair profit off them.

And I disagree because the trading post is one of the most balanced areas of the game, as everyone is subject to the same rules yet has a free choice when it comes to his personal evaluation of an item.
Its up to the individual seller and buyer to make the right choice in order for his item to sell or his bid to fill in the desired time frame.

Nevermind that any system that requires you to outbid/undercut by a certain amount (be it a % or minimum amount of gold) can be easily circumnavigated.

If a minimum bid for an item is 100g and by new rules i would have to place a bid of at least 101g if I want to raise it, i do just that, then place another bid at 100g and 1 copper, then cancel my bid of 101g.

Projected profit does not include the 5% listing fee, just the 10% sales fee.
You need to manually deduct the displayed listing fee from the projected profit to see what actual profit you will be making on the entire sale, if any.

1s = Sell Price
5c = Listing Fee
10c = Sales Fee
90c = Displayed Projected Profit
85c = Actual Profit on the sale (profit as long as vending nets less than 85c)

If it vends for 99c and you sell it to a 1s buy order, you actually lose 15c on the sale and should have instead sold to a vendor (or salvaged, but that’s a different discussion).

Yes, it is very silly and poorly designed. :\

This is why many of my characters didn’t vote for Evon!

(Maybe…)

Evon just takes 5% listing fee, while Kiel and the Captains Council pocket the 10% taxes.

Quartz Crystal Node (Supply Shortage)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

There was a thread posted by someone interested in economic matters (Wanze) several months back where he discussed the drop in supply and the possible effect on prices. Supply back in May was over 2 million and is now about 70k. Since then the guild halls have increased demand for Quartz while the sources are the same. This additional demand should further decrease supply and increase prices, even if people do take up active farming of these nodes.

I am actually surprised that they didnt really add any new supply faucets for it with HoT (except t&t bags with halloween, wintersday gifts will also drop charged quartz) but added new demand. Considering how much attnetion quartz got on the forums in the last couple of months on the forums, im sure Anet is quite aware of the situation but has its reasons why they keep supply scarce.
The only valid reason i could find is that they want to add more value to DR loot, so it doesnt get abandoned by the player base.
I am not sure about how reaching Magguma works for new players but i would guess they have to get through dry top and SW in order to get there and there isnt a portal going up.
So i think its a novel idea to put some incentive for veterans to go back there and mingle with the new players.
Passion Flowers also didnt get any new faucets even though added demand for infused trinkets was foreseeable.
I am selling PF for 90s now and there are three daily nodes per account in SSC.
Its good gold for a 10 minutes farming per day.
IF you harvest the 3 blooming passifloras and the quartz nodes in DT once per day, you should end up with at least 2g worth of mats and it only takes 15 min tops.

Every game is a monopoly if you put it that way. There is no real life counter-part to someone that can create unlimited natural resources with a simple database edit.

But yes, Anet does tweak the economy.

They stopped ectos from dropping below 20s and caused permanent hair contracts to drop from 4000g to 1500g.

No. Anet, as a company, didnt list a single ecto or contract on the tp. It was players that stopped that from happening.

Basic material prices, problem and solution

in Crafting

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

The recently discussed anomaly in the price of soft wood made me take an overall look at the economy of basic crafting materials. The profit to level curve in GW2 is relatively linear and flat compared to the MMO norm of exponential growth. This is generally good for the economy. However, in such a setting even slight irregularities in the supply/demand process cause noticeable side effects.

To see these effects, I compared the values of different basic materials, ordered by tier. The following table excludes jewelcrafting metals copper, silver, gold and platinum. The values listed are buy values of refined materials in silver on Sep 23, 2013.

T   Wood   Metal   Leather   Cloth
1 1.85 0.69 0.07 0.31
2 6.48 3.21 0.20 0.79
3 4.50 3.65 0.71 2.44
4 3.12 3.09 0.47 0.75
5 1.65 0.57 0.09 0.16
6 22.30 10.09 2.05 7.39

In a perfect situation all values would increase as a function of tier, roughly in step with the profit to level curve. Significant deviations from this behavior are an indicator of a structural supply/demand problem.

As already mentioned, the price of soft (T2) wood is irregularly high. One factor to this is the requirement of using 4 logs for one plank instead of the usual 3, but even if this were corrected the value would still be quite high at 4.86 silver. However, the forces caused by the recent addition of T7 crafting have not yet been completely relaxed. Thus, one could suspect that in the long run the value of soft wood will drop around the same level as hard (T4), provided that the number of required logs is indeed reduced to 3.

When ignoring the soft wood anomaly and tier 6 for a moment, the table shows a peculiar trend. The price increases from kitten T3 as expected, but after that it drops! Overall, T5 is the cheapest material of the five, instead of the most valuable.

There are several factors to this behavior. One that can’t be controlled is that the active player population is tilted toward the upper end of character level, thus producing more higher tier materials than lower ones. The thing that could be controlled is that T5 is currently a waste product of T6 acquisition. All the basic methods of producing the desirable T6 materials are guaranteed to also produce much larger quantities of the undesirable T5 materials, flooding the supply side.

The recently introduced T7 recipes tried to address this basic problem by consuming different amounts of materials per transmutation, 20/10/20/50 for tier 2 to 5, respectively. Looking at the results and comparing the ones affected by this force to the one that isn’t (cloth), one sees that the measure is not sufficient. T3 is still anomalously high, and T5 anomalously low.

However, there is a very simple solution that can correct the situation. If players can downgrade materials, either by salvaging or transmutating, then the price structure will naturally adjust itself. It is possible to achieve the “correct” structure by using right process cost and yield parameters for the process T_X + Catalyst -> N * T_X-1

While this is not very realistic in the physical sense, neither is flinging fireballs from your fingertips.

+1, great post.

I fling fireballs from my fingertips all day long, though.

GW2 2016... A message to devs and players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

Wanze, these are the game boards so I’m using this medium constructively… Your arguments are null and void. Thanks. I’m not going to negotiate ncsoft’s role anymore or use of these forums unnecessarily. There are bigger messages to discuss.

You yet have to lay out how their statement, which you based your OP on, is related to development of the game and not marketing costs.

Cost effective marketing has nothing to do with the flaws you see in this game.

The conference call didn’t say that they were looking to do something like reinvest into their games to increase long term revenue and earnings now did they? Right?

Instead they are building a new mobile studio, has 60 employees out of the planned 100 and leveraging (gambling with) a new ip instead of propping up their current bread winners…

Gw2 is an amazing game in ways and just added 2 million new users since play for free and has a 3.1 million monthly concurrency rate now… So maybe time to reinvest and boost momentum and staying power and growing power for gw2 into 2016…

It’s simple to separate “cost efficiency” and “reinvest”… It’s pretty self explanatory… The rest is just PR money talk mumbo jumbo for people who look at their accounting statements wondering what happened… It’s different for the boots on the ground…

Then i dont know why you claim cost efficiency is the root of all evil, if its the lack of reinvestment.

If you want reinvestment, say so. Just because it wasnt mentioned in a transcript from a conference call made by an mmo fansite, doesnt mean they dont do it.

You can claim its PR mumbo jumbo but then it makes no sense to use it to back up your OP.

Find a statement from NCSoft that says they arent reinvesting into GW2 and we can continue the discussion.

Damask

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

And then there is the massiv difference in cost between different armor types.
A light armor set cost more than twice of a medium armor set in ascended materials.

…Does it really? I made my light ascended armor back in July, and here are the numbers I used:

Light
393damask+12leather= 405g

Medium
262damask+40leather= 302g

Heavy
273damask+56steel= 329g

While I agree that light armor shouldn’t cost so much more, let’s not overstate the case.

It’s possible the numbers have changed since then, or that someone could get different numbers depending on what mix of buy order / sell order / craft they use to calculate values, but I won’t believe it’s double unless someone can show me their numbers.

As of right now (rounding to the nearest number for price of mats), the cost of ascended armor with just ascended mats is:

Light
(36 bolts of damask x 17g each) + (6 elonian leather x 3.5g each) = 633g

Medium
(24 bolts of damask x 17g each) + (18 elonian leather x 3.5g each) = 471g

Heavy
(25 bolts of damask x 17g each) + (16 deldrimor steel x 5g each) = 505g

Prices for mats were taken off GW2 wiki under the “trading post” section of the mat summary on the right upper part of the mat page.

So, really, light armor does cost twice as much as medium armor (right now, only considering price of ascended mats).

Fixed for you, as you forgot to consider the damask for the insignias.

Thats light armor only around 35% more expensive than medium and that percentage would go even lower, if we consider all the other mats because they would add value equally to all three weights……..

knight power cores usable for other things?

I actually think the account bound loot (and loot drops in general) from the last 2 updates has been handled extremely well by Anet.

There were plenty of skins that dropped through achievements in game only:
Halo, Horns, backpacks, Scarlet Helm and Rifles.
I really liked the implementation of the backpack crafting, using multiple tiers of crafting materials. Even though prices went over the top for some mats in the first couple of days (Iron, T4 Dust), its a good way to introduce some material sinks where they are needed.
Also the choice of armosmithing profession to craft your gift of Blades influenced the prices of refined asc crafting mats (deldrimor ingot, Elonian Leather and Bolts of Damask) and their lower tier materials to get more into equilibrium, especially for leather in general.
The last 2 patches actually showed us where the bottlenecks of common mats are (iron, rugged leather, luminous dust, which spiked the most and that is a good thing because Anet actually adresses these issues).

It might take some time to adress mat sinks and shortages but they still adress it.
t2-5 cloth prices for bolts of damask, that got a little out of hand since ascended armor got released, were adressed with their inclusion to the loot table of alliance supply bags, rare skins and recipes that were only obtainable via rng during past ls releases, got reintroduced via the Ultimate Citizen Rescue Bag. I know that many of you are still waiting for a drop of monocles, the molten firestorm mini or a jetpack and say the droprate still isnt good enough. But those items were rare when they came along the first time and should be rare now. All masterwork, rare and exotic drops from the ultimate rescue dropped in price within the last 3 weeks and thats the point.

As a Trader, i dont like Anet reintroducing limited items to the loot table because i lose alot of potential profit but i can see the general benefit of it for the game and i am ok with it.
As a Trader, i dont see that move as a potential loss but as a possibility to reinvest when prices are low.

Also, in the last week, Anet responded to critizism on the forums and informed us that blade shards will still be valueable after the patch ends and we have to trade in heirlooms and belongings, which is a step forward in communication in my book.
Even though they didnt say anything about power cores, its a different pair of shoes, as they are tradeable.

I eagerly Await your suggestions.

How would you feel about an option for a buy/sell pricewhich is somewhere between the current buy and sell offers (I like the midpoint)? I would be willing to use that, but find it too tedious to enter the midpoint manually each time I want to sell something; I know it’s not needed right now, but I suspect that if it existed the buy/sell prices would be more likely to converge. (This does mean more efficient pricing, and less profit for flippers … at least for active markets.) The only real downside I see is that it might reduce the depth of orders … but I think prices would fluctuate enough during the day that you could still do range trading.

This exists already.

Path of Fire Stress Test August 31, 2017

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Ok. Let’s all make minion masters, equip minis and concentrate in one point and use all of our skills at the same time.

That would be awesome, everyone do that

Wait really? Is this really what you want people to do?

We’re trying to stress test, things that put stress on the servers are encouraged. We would also like you to play as you would on day one. We are looking for the performance issues that Gaile talked about in the initial post, but if a bunch of players want to get creative I’m the last person to tell them not to!

But again, as Gaile said, be prepared performance issues, but as this is a stress test, lets stress things.

If you run into bugs or weirdness, take into account that we are doing a stress test, but you can always use /bug in game. We have people who look at those reports on a regular basis.

I guess there will be a feedback thread during the stress test, so maybe its a good idea, if you can give us a little template on how we should report, if we plan some crazy stuff with info on shard IP, time and what exactly we were doing.

As a trader, I sometimes have very long loot queues rolling down on the right side of my screen, for example when opening 5k lootbags or using salvage all on 5k bloodstone-warped hides.

After a couple of thousand items scrolled through my screen, my framerate drops until it freezes at some point, unless I reset the loot queue by waypointing.

Most of those performance issues are probably caused by my side due to hardware limitations, depending on which computer I am playing.

But sometimes, especially if i just afk after opening/salvaging a big sample size and let my loot queue run out, which has taken more than 30 minutes on occassions, I come back to the game and see complaints from other players in map or say chat reporting performance issues as well during that time. Keep in mind that I usually do that in DR and not on a full pve or wvw map.

So I always wondered, wether my loot queue also might put alot of stress on the servers and create performance issues for other players as well.

I could probably manage to get a good sample size of containers and salvage items to do some testing during the stress test.

Or I just try how many wintersday gifts I can open while doing the race.

I´d wager you a Hardened leather-padded Mystic Coin that I can manage 10 stacks of Wintersday Gifts and a Top 5 Finish.

If not, I just blame performance issues and rage quit.

Analysis of poss. upgrade reqs for wvw armor

in WvW

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

I had a good look at what might be required to upgrade our wvw armor from ascended to legendary and posted my findings on the economy subreddit but thought I post a link here, as not many of you might frequent that subreddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/gw2economy/comments/6s0sxx/speculation_about_material_requirements_for/

Quick TL/DR:

  • 18 different wvw precursor pieces currently cost 1280g and take 22 weekly resets if you get 175 tickets per week
  • 18 different pve precursor pieces currently cost 640g and also take 22 weekly resets if you get 13 LI per week
  • Upgrade costs for wvw leggie armor might be a little cheaper than for pve to balance the higher acquistion costs for precursors
  • Gift of Craftsmanship is a candidate to be scratched (gift of battle instead) if they want to lower the acquistion costs. Another possible scenario is introducing different Provisioner Tokens that can be obtained by trading in crafted rare armor and weapons at provisioners in each of the 12 keeps and maybe sm
  • Mystic Clovers will be needed as well but easier to acquire in wvw through reward tracks, so this might balance acquistion costs already
  • Gifts of Condensed Might and Magic will stay and be the main gold sink
  • Gift of Prowess will be the same and act as timegate of 2 weeks, so 350 skirmish tickets instead of 25 LI
  • Gift of Dedication will be bought from vendor, most likely for badges, proofs of heroics and memories of battle. 4th ingredient will either be an rng trophy from mobs (Hylek Tongues, Ogre Tooths, Legendary Spikes etc.) or they will split the timegate between gift of prowess and dedication, so 175 tickets each.

Requests for Exclusive Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

There are many items besides these skins that can be invested in, and many more that will appear later on. They have been exclusive for some time now, and people have made profits on that. The point of economics is that supply and demand changes. Restricting the supply all the time is not good for an economy. I don’t suggest making them available 24/7, but allowing some supply to come in and replace the few that people manage to purchase won’t hurt anyone.

Besides, GW2 and GW1 have a sort of policy of making things available later on or in another way. For a recent example, see the laurel vendor with all the season goodies. Noooo reason why this can’t be done for these two.

Well, it would hurt the ones that just purchased one before it gets reintroduced. And as already mentioned, all items in question have already been re-released.

Crafting Gift of Color post Wardrobe?

in Crafting

Posted by: Wanze.8410

It doesn’t, like I said, I did try to search.
The last update to the wiki page was on the 15th of last month, changing the supply from 250 to 100 unidentified dyes, with no explanation.

There’s a finite amount of them available without a) Paying real money, b) Spending a work week of laurels c) using 400 other dyes (more than previous recipe)

Edit: In other words I think all options are ridiculous so I want a confirmed secondary option

You have to use the Unidentified Dye, which is available at the Trading Post, from BL Chests, Laurel vendor or forged from 4 color specific, crafted unidentified dyes. To forge 1 UID, you have to use RARE crafted color specific UIDs, if that is intended or a bug, i dont know.

However, due to the decrease from 250 to 100 UIDs and their price fall from 40 to 20s, the gift of color now costs 20g instead 100g.

T5 and T6 mats crashing?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

I hardly call a 10% drop in T6 prices as “crashing”. But supply is going up and I think that’s because T6 is now clearly the best conversion of Laurels to Gold since they raised the price of UniDye by 10×.

It is when you got a very large batch of items on the tp, just to find out prices have dropped more then 1 silver per item.

Someday I will get into the habit of reading the OP and not just the title.

So 24 hour dip?

Using GW2Spidy’s 24hr moving average. Last day.

Ancient Bone: 35.61s to 35.19s
Vicious Claw: 36.92s – 37.10s
Crystalline Dust: 17.75s – 17.87s
Vicious Fang: 34.85s – 34.76s
Armored Scale: 38.54s – 40.40s
Elaborate Totem: 26.04s – 27.97s
Powerful Venom Sac: 31.36s – 32.37s
Powerful Blood: 45.17s – 45.79s

Yeah, that’s a huge dropoff there, NOT. You do realize the price fluctuates quite a bit daily right?

It’s likely you looked after someone sold to highest bidder more mats than the bidder was looking to buy which drops the low sale price to the previous high bid for the remainder.

I am aiming for t5, and the prices dropped quite alot for the item i got on the TP because of this.

Maybe it’s not crashing in the normal terms, but that sudden drop was still happening.
Right now it seems like it stopped and it rised a little bit. If it didnt, i would lose 100s of gold for even putting stuff on the TP, so a 10% difference is ALOT.

To lose 100s of gold by a 10% drop on t5 mats means you are listing 1000s of gold worth of t5 mats. Flipping t5 mats was never profitable so you were speculating with these mats, i guess. Anticipating price shifts is a big part of speculating, so this time, you just lost out.

If you’d also like to link that to how it would be affected by people trading an item for an item securely without having to pay extra money to cover the cut taken in order to make an equal-value exchange, please do.

If people dont have to pay any taxes on p2p trading, they will try to do that, in order to maximize their profit. That leads to a hoarding mentality which results in more supply being stored in peoples inventory (or your proposed ITP) instead of the regular tp. Less supply on the regular tp means prices will be more volatile and subject to higher price shifts. I, as an experienced trader see so many ways, i could exploit this for higher profit margins.

And how do you prevent your ITP being used as free storage? Want to store 100 stacks of iron ore? just list a hundred trades, 1 stack of iron for 1 dusk.

Legendaries should have every available state

As far as I know, Legendaries offer every available ascended weapon stat.

As ascneded givers weapons dont exist at all, legendaries dont offer giver stats.

they dont have giver, apostate, captain, or forgotten

they should definitely have captain at least.

And as far as I know, there arent any other ascended weapons with those 4 stats, so why should legendaries have them?

captain trinkets are available

I am sure, once Legendary Trinkets get introduced, they will offer captains stats.

Inspecting players

So, i think it would be a Great idea for Guild Wars 2 to have a player Inspection option so you can look at your friends/guild/random players, whomevers gear, and maybe a little side note if they have it Transmuted so we could know what they have their item looking like
but mainly id just like to be able to see peoples gear, for the soul purpose that we could know how much better someones gear is so that we might be able to ask them where they got it or how they got it
i believe that if we see someones items it will persuade us into getting better gear

My mount doesnt like its cape skin to be inspected, so i told Anet not to implement it.

No trust me its perfectly fair that i have to grind for hours daily giving my gold to you in order to play fractals and www while you sit on your pc making 100X what i do without even logging the game….

Perfectly fine….

You are helping the game you should be proud…..

And is it perfectly fair that your gold rate through fractals/wvw is much higher than players who choose to make money through gathering or even map exploration?

Why don’t we nerf your method down to that level?

Did you read when i said cutting few trees gives more money that the most difficult istance in the game?

And for your info ANY profitable source of gold in the game was nerfed since release…

All but the TP, the no risk free pvp minigame that gives 10-100X rewards of anything else in the game at the cost of people who doesn t want to participate.

That is what is wrong….

I stopped reading between “no risk” and “free”.

Lots of people that dont know the market have held on to their UIDs or bought some in the aftermath of the patch, so there is a huge supply left thats not on the tp.
Prices will slowly go down, triggering small time traders to eventually sell their stock to cut their losses because they dont have the patience of good traders. That happens most of the time, when they need some gold for the next thing that everybody wants comes out. Once the majority of the supply is in the hands of a smaller group of big traders, demand will eventually outpace supply on the tp and prices will rise.
By the time that happens, you will most propably munch Halloween or Christmas candy.

The price of Cloth Bolts..

Wanze.8410

Someone made a decision that wasn’t thought out. Obviously when a t2 mat costs>2x the corresponding t6 and the t4 costs >5.5x as much as the t6 something is amiss. Will we ever hear anything about it? Probably not, it’s very hard for ppl to admit mistakes and we will most times do anything to avoid doing so even it it effects other ppl.

I pretty much think this is working as intended to give new players, who lvl their first toon, a chance to earn gold through regular gameplay at a rate that is closer to end game gold farming.

If that is truly the reason, it is a poor one. It doesn’t take that long to level a toon to 80 and you don’t need to earn gold at a high rate when at that stage of the game. Plus the fact that you shouldn’t gain gold at the same rate as end game content especially considering the end game stuff is meant to be much harder which, in turn, should reward you more.

I think its way more challenging to do a map completion on level on your own than running the champ train with a lvl 80.

GW2 2016... A message to devs and players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Yeah, sure, that’s called spin doctoring to explain poor numbers and not look bad for poor reinvestments back into their current games…

Sure, lets blame marketing when gamers don’t care about marketing, they care about a good game. WIIFM my friend… Look it up in sales strategy… That’s what players/customers/consumers/end users care about the most…

Those explainations are for money people not game people… But you don’t get that concept…

Cost efficiency and patch notes are all we need to see to know… Sorry.

But why do you use cost efficiency to explain the development flaws if it is clearly a money people explaination, as you have stated?

NCSoft stopped investing into GW2 development long ago, all they do, is take Anets earnings and use a part of those profits for marketing their product.

Where is the correlation between marketing budgets and game development flaws?

Anet is wholly owned by ncsoft…

So maybe it’s time to reinvest and make them better bread winners…

Investors and owners dont care about game balance, legendary armor, raids or wvw maps.

Thats for the developers.

Some posts earlier, you said you dont care about investors and now you want their money to get a better game. If you want more money from them so Anet gets more ressources, you should talk to them directly.

I never said I didn’t care about investors…

I said that conference call was a message to investors by ncsoft… Players don’t care about that message, they care about what is in game…

Nc makes the big money decisions ultimately… That’s what you are missing…

So are you anti making this a better game?

Seems so from your posts here, and I’m trying to communicate my thoughts (not alone with this thinking either) to maybe make this thing better for all of us…

I am not against making this game better but i have little faith that your way to go for it will yield any results because:

  • you dont contact those who make the money decisions
  • you take a statement that was about marketing strategy and budget from NCSoft and apply it completely out of context towards game development from Anet

When i post on these forums I often get confronted with the claim that I am just trying to hawk my investments to other people in order to maximize my profit.

I agree that some of my posts do have that effect, the price of some items i invested in rose in value, after i talked about it on the forums.

But my ability to raise prizes by posting about it usually is never the reason why i invested in that item in the first place.

I invested in it for some other reason and would expect a good profit, even if I wouldnt talk about it. If I talk about a certain item or market I invested in, its usually not because i want to raise its price (even though i have to admit its a welcome side effect for the most part) but because i want to participate in a discussion about it.

Whenever someone decides to follow my lead and invest in the same item that i just talked about, he almost certainly will see a lower ROI over time than me, while mine gets bigger with everyone hopping on the hype train.

So its basically impossible for me to show people how to be as successful as me by just telling them in what to invest.

Thats why i have to try to teach them, how to find profitable markets or items themselves and which economic forces they should consider.
For that I will try a different approach. I will post screenshots of the top 10-15 items in my flipping, selling and purchasing history of the last 90 days (provided by gw2bltc) and tell you a little bit about every item on it.

Exchange a legendary/precusor

So, buy the cheapest precursor off the TP and exchange it via the mystic forge for the most expensive one? Sounds like a plan!

Sure is. Didn’t i say it being one time only and it come with some cost. Of course, an initial ripple in market is to be expected. If you are one of the market manipulators, of course you wouldn’t like it, no?

I bet Average Joe, who just crafted one of the expensive legendaries in order to sell it for 3.5k gold will be delighted by this change and this sudden influx of new supply, forged by rich players, who can afford to outright buy one of the cheaper legendaries for around 2k gold, throw in a couple of mats worth 50g and undercut him with a legendary that cost them 500g less to acquire within 3 min, while he was grinding for it for the past couple of months.

I have enough gold to purchase one of the cheap legendaries to turn it into a quick 500g profit, so i second this proposal.

Not so sure wether average joe would agree though.

Maybe they should make a way to produce an account bound precursor.

Like a scavenger hunt or something?

Thats an awesome idea and you should open a seperate thread in the suggestion subforum about it, so maybe Anet can squeeze it into HoT.
Shouldnt take much to time to implement, anyways.

TP Item search improvements

Marked Manipulation would be if i have 15 000 gold and would buy all the supply from a item, selling the item again and increasing the prices by a lot. Thats not a win win situation.

Even in that case, i dont think you are a market manipulator because you are using it as intended.
You didnt force anybody whose supply you bought out from the tp to sell to you at that price, that player offered it at that price by free choice.

And if you relist at a high price, you also dont force anybody to buy your listings, they are free to put in a lower buy order.

let us sell ascended materials to vendors

I hope you are aware that this is not the first thread on this topic.
I understand that it is hard to just destroy something that you earned and has no value to you because you dont craft but it still boggles my mind that some people that obviously start getting storage shortage due to ascended mats would even be content with a 1c value (2.5 silver per stack).

Considering the average price of an extra bank slot, i would never store asc mats while hoping that the stack of asc mats occupying it has a slight chance of giving me 2.5s back at some time. I would rather use that bank slot for something else that gives me a better return of investment.

I also have personal question to you, as you seem to be somebody that gathers alot of those mats and doesnt use it:

How much stacks of asc mats (doesnt matter which kind) you actually get on an average day?

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Why not use reward system already in game, which people forgot it exists, dungeon tokens/ pristine fractal relics + vendor.

So instead of pure rng straight out of the box, you combine the two. Meaning if you are lucky, you get your drop early from the chest at the end of the lvl, but if you are not, like myself, you get the option to trade in the tokens/relics for it.

Then you make that mystic toilet, i mean forge to some good use for change, and put in items that would always result in something you want. 100%

Now to give example, you make each dungeon/fractal have its unique artifact that is super rare and drops from explorable end chest. But if you play certain dungeon enough times, and gather enough of tokens/relics, you can just get it off of vendor, for 10000, 100000, 100000000000 tokens or whatever.

Once you get all 8 + fractals, you make it similar to crafting gifts of might and magic, there is this recipe you have to get from rng, or trade dragonite ore for it.

lets say ac,ta, cm and se are one gift, and cof, coe, arah, hotm are another gift, fractals one would be a stand alone gift, and then you miss 4th element to make it really intricate way of crafting something you put your effort into, or got extremely lucky.

Either way you get rewarded, and you feel like you achieved something/ earned something, rather than straight out rng drop.

But i wouldn’t really bother with drops, not before you make changes to current dungeons / add new harder dungeons, because current dungeons are way too boring and way too rewarding for how hard it is so beat them, arah included!

Cheers!

A problem i see with using existing tokens to purchase rare items in the future is that it will instantly put alot of wealth into the hands of those that already farmed lots of those tokens in the past. I know its great if all that useless stuff that you have been hoarding in your bank or wallet out of a sudden can be exchanged for awesome rewards but i think if reward structures get changed, everybody should start on a level playing field.

O.o is it even possible to get gossamer below level 80? much less enough to make anything?

Those items are meant for people that level alts, so it gets easier to level them, i quote from the blog post:

These items are intended for the up-and-coming heroes of Tyria. As such, they extend up to an exotic level of rarity, but they are all exclusively under level 80. You may find that early explorations of Tyria are easier the second, third, or twenty-third time around with some of this gear.
The recipes for these items are meant for advanced crafters
, but we’ve also added versions of the weapons to monster hauls across Tyria that come with a few stat combos intended for characters who are still leveling. If you find one you like that doesn’t work for the character you’re on, you can always store it away for another character on your account. Happy hunting!

Solution to cloth shortage

My guess is the scarcity and inflation on cloth prices is intentional. If it wasn’t they could just simply lower the silk bottleneck.

It isn’t fair that it’s far more expensive to fully outfit an elementalist with ascended.

An Ele only has to obtain 6 weapons to fully outfit him for all weapon combinations, a warrior needs 14. I am pretty sure, those 8 extra weapons will make the warrior more expensive to fully outfit in ascended.

Use for HoT ascended crafting materials.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

So i was thinking about what we can do with materials such as Ley Line Sparks, Airship Oil and Pile of Auric dust as you get insane amounts of those when you open chests on HoT maps. If you are not upgrading guild hall their only usage is to make fulgurite and i don’t think that you need a couple of stacks of those constantly(at least i don’t). That’s why this materials usually end up taking a lot of inventory space or just getting destroyed.

These materials werent primarily introduced as loot (thats why they are account bound and not tradeable) but to make sure that you complete a certain amount of certain game content in order to achieve certain goals. Therefore they have a very specific function inside the game economy. Once you earned enough of these for your own needs, they completed their task and become more or less worthless.

Their acquisition methods and faucets werent designed to be interchangeable with tradeable loot (or currencies that can be exchanged for tradeable items).

Considering that you arent the only players that by now accumulated large piles of these materials, the chance of Anet giving them a worthwhile new faucet besides the intended one are pretty slim to none because it would mean that plenty of players that are hoarding these materials will suddenly be rewarded (in bulk) for past playing time, which would give veterans a large advantage over new players.

The only problem here seems to be your inability to delete stuff in your inventory that you dont need anymore because you feel entitled to gain value from it.
