Please FIX the dungeon Boss Encounters.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ilr.9675

ilr.9675

Here you want a Fix to this that fixes EVERY stupid boring over-tuned boss in Dungeons??

When they do their big Telegraphs?? ….ya Following this?…
….
Their stupid unnecessary gimmicky Unshakable passive drops for 1.5 seconds.
….(go ahead, click it if you’re not sure what that is).

But ya don’t stop there… you also start putting more Veteran mobs in these fights… Veterans that place a “Bond” skill on whichever mob is getting spiked with the highest DPS. Bonds like: Angelic & Seed … that follow the same rules for Necro/Mesmer “stripping” that CC follows (IE: also drops during those big Telegraphs).

When it came to Spiders in EotN… these massive spawns of DPS’ing ones were a total joke. Hell they could mass spawn EarthBound Oozes with them like in Arachni’s and it didn’t matter one bit to players who actually knew what they were doing and weren’t just running Maximum DPS bullcrap. That’s how fights were kept interesting. Every now and then they threw in a couple LifeWeavers or a Chained Cleric. Our abilities to actually MOVE mobs around in this game with real physics and crap gives this whole reality even more potential depth than GW1 had. So the only question remaining, is why the hell the Devs haven’t done it already??

Are we still in the Training Wheels stage here?
Are they too worried the Zerkers might rage quit??

If people are going to do nothing but talk past eachother (just like in map chat), then this probably doesn’t need to keep getting bumped and it will eventually turn into something that gets locked like the other 2 or 3 threads about it did.

I don’t think Anet’s going to say anything more about it either. Either it will just be quietly patched out soon, or everyone will get penalized for it in some way as Smith has already confirmed that they might have overdone it slightly when it comes to currency “Supply” into the current economy.

and 50 points are a bad joke…

i mean 5 points are ok, but how can people get that points?

right! never! or it take ages…

You have that backwards.
Take a good look at how little time it takes just to get 25. Look at some of the latest Bazaar Achievements. Many of them are over 20 points and take much less than an hour to get.

Every HOM point over the first 5 or 6… literally took Days… each. Some took years.
(especially for ppl who got Ascalonion defenders in the early days, or Drunkard)

What reward was their in Guild Wars 1 for doing the HoM? Wife and I did the 30/50 for the skins (couldn’t care less about titles) but I did not get a reward in Guild Wars 1. The HoM was put there (pretty much EotN was put there) to bridge the gap between Gw1 to GW2, and so us old players that started GW1 on day one can carry on with our game.

Quoting for Truth.

Some very very very vocal minorities in this Forum want all of us to believe that HOM was only achievements that started and should have stayed in a in a “different” game. But those people are astroturfing every thread about it, and directly contradicting the entire Reason that Anet added the HOM. This is the truth, we got nothing out of these efforts in GW1. From the very beginning of 2009, it was only ever about carrying over our achievements from that game to this one. That’s Anet’s own words on it.

People who don’t like that… well… dunno what to tell them, except that maybe they should have done more research before buying this game, huh? I mean if they’re so hardcore about achievements, you’d think they would have read a little about past achievements to know what they were gettting themselves into, right?

Flipping is actually the most effort-effective method. And it’s clear from TP values that everyone and their grandma is doing it. …especially in the case of Dust where you have flippers flipping flippers flipping flippers. It’s like an echo-chamer of uncalled-for inflation (though J.Smith will claim otherwise based on Real-World principles that also intentionally obfuscates actual Consumer-Price-Index values)

Survivability in Dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ilr.9675

ilr.9675

“Survivability” in dungeons isn’t as bad as it is made out to be on the forums. A large portion of the very experienced playerbase has moved to a very heavy DPS based mentality, and when they see someone/some group doing poorly in dungeons, it is often assumed that he is wearing “survivability” gear, when the performance is probably better attributed to dungeon inexperience.

^This
Forums are always going to be full of Hyperbole & ‘internet tough guys’.

Most dungeon runs aren’t going to be 5 uber-experienced spikers who dodge perfectly all of the time. And playing with those sorts of people gets boring really fast IMO. Plus, if you’re a longer time player with gold to burn, there’s no ‘fight club’ rules here saying you can’t get another bag slot just for a second or 3rd set of armor to switch to in the less common event, that no one’s ever getting hit back by anything. :\

I run mostly Vitality, Crit, Tough on my ranger too. It’s not some crutch. It’s just a reflection of the reality that things change, and Anet likes changing things. Maybe not every month, but certainly every year… And I don’t like respec’ing my entire approach to things that often just b/c some speedrun kiddies followed the next fad and expect everyone to embrace that month’s flavor with them.

I do one better…. I run double fire fields on top of that and an Ascended sword with Ascended GS on swap. Super sig of Battle & Strength to stack up might even more.

And after all that hoop jumping with 3400 base power …. I crit for a grand total of 1600 on the Sword’s highest damage attacks :p …I could even record video of it if you’d like… 6-9 stacks of Might + Fury … pretty much perma. And still only half of the DPS that a Warrior gets with barely any might, Exotic weaps, and NO fury.

If I could put better gear on my Pets…. I MIGHT be able to atleast approach the standard DPS of a Warrior or Guardian (Oh and by the way, they’re getting more damage & +Prec buffs in the next patch, while all we get is a super short-lived anti-stealth, and slightly less fragile pets).

That absolutely has to go. You never, NEVER give a spike-damage stealth class the ability to constantly get out of CC’s and then return to stealth or spiking, seconds later. You just don’t. I don’t even think MTG ever allowed overkill on that Element; and they’ve allowed some pretty questionable stuff over the years.

Encounters.

Encounter encounters encounters. GW2 doesn’t have a Story problem. It doesn’t have a Feature problem. It doesn’t have a lack of goals or “achievements”….. as of this last “Feature update” it’s got an Achieve-Ception problem now. Achievements for getting achievements for getting achievements. Who’s idea was that when the most frequent request from everyone was the content to gradually build a Precursor? Nope, instead it’s all a ton of little mini-pieces of pointless fluff added where all that was needed instead was a return to good old strong ENEMY ENOUNTERS and Artificial-intelligence.

There’s nothing in the dungeons even remotely similar to the old Stone Summit armies or Orrion Undead armies or the Menzies hordes or everyone’s favorite “Underworld”… And the combat’s even more 1 dimensional. Interrupts don’t matter. Bosses just ignore status effects and conditions. Every mob feels exactly the same unless it causes knockdowns. There no “Kill Order”. There’s no A.I., only places you stack up and auto-attack from with Might buff Spam. No one is responsible for the wellfare of anyone else in their party nor do they have the abilities to keep anyone else alive once the reflect wall is on recharge. It’s not actually even “Dungeons”. They’re DPS mazes with an occasional annoying puzzle tossed in and not the thinking kinds of puzzles like the old Vabbi mission /w Magrid the Sly

Most instant deaths are completely arbitrary and random feeling. Usually caused by bad telegraphing, NO telegraphing, or being permanently knocked-down. There’s no quick plentiful “little attacks” from big bosses, just a rope skipping minigame of “dodge the 1-shot”.

But worst of all…. Most paths just have no replayability to them. B/c again: the encounters are so 1 dimensional. So people just run the shortest path each day like they’re getting a rub&tug out of the way. Gw1 wasn’t like that. It had real dungeons where real teams of real players mattered. Not 4 warriors and their 1 support kitten

well, it seems like every part of the game is not happy about the balancing that is going on..

This is what I’m saying.
The only exception was some weird longbow/ranger changes yesterday that still clearly weren’t helpful to PvE. The WvW crowd which is very vocal in the forum were singing praises for the first time in (except for heavy condition Settlers Roamers who relied on GS for Defense and were getting a little too much out of GS’s #2 skill with Bleed abuse when compared to what the rest of us are getting out of GS’s historically multi-nerfed Damage) …. been months and months now since ANYONE had anything good to say in there that wasn’t pure sPvP gimmick based.

While it would be great to see the trend reverse like this ALL the time, I think we all know it’s not just going to happen on coin flips. There has to be concerted efforts here to include PvE balance or atleast base it more off WvW if they’re going to continue to outright refuse us lots of minor (increasing stats instead of changing entire function) Skill Splits.

pls

We’ll be more than happy to leave your little private club here…

…Just as soon as this Balance Team starts talking to THE REST OF US out in the other forums where they should have been all along. …..that’s what this thread is about isn’t it? Communication??

They still haven’t answered the BIGGEST question:
—> Why balance 90% of the game around 10% of its Playerbase?

in WvW

ilr.9675

All of these threads telling ANet how much more fun match-ups are when they’re roughly even…

…and we still have no acknowledgement that they’re even CONSIDERING a different way of doing match-ups.

Matching-up can only go so far because some Tiers themselves are just light years away from eachother. ….Even with Anet’s Theorycrafting that the two weaker server would work together more to keep the strongest Zergiest one in check…. it just DOES NOT WORK. …2nd place never wants to team up with third place because the Meta’s mechanics just don’t allow it.

It’s far more incentivized for 2nd place to go take all of the 3rd place server’s candy while constantly running away from #1’s much larger zergs. That’s millenniums of basic evolution right there ….watch a pack of wolves going after the weakest in the herd. We’re no different. … our Cave dwelling ancestors didn’t bad together to take down bull mammoths… #1 too many of them died trying it … but also the Baby mammoths were more tender and just tasted a lot better.

.

What this comes down to, is the population leverage. Without a mechanic to make EVERYONE in the underpop servers into bull mammoths, nothing will ever change. Changing the scoring system itself is only treating a Symptom instead of the cause. Changing the matchmaking does even less. The only way to fix the root problem, is to address Defense better, and also give smaller organized/skilled guilds the leverage (or PvE scalng if Anet wants to be cheap about it) they need to stay alive more than 5 seconds against a Zerg of bads. ….Then you’d finally see a reversal of this Blobbing trend of everyone migrating to only the badwagon servers.

Why the double Standard on Silk?

in Crafting

Posted by: ilr.9675

ilr.9675

Not without a vicious outcry.

This never made sense to me. There’s no direct way to use Gems to buy more Scraps so there’s no “legal tender” precedent here. Furthermore:

When the game first got rolling and Soft Wood supply was completely over-saturating to the point they added another log required for refining AND temporary forge recipe to eat up as much of the overstock as they could, they didn’t suddenly say “Okay you are all indebted to us 25% more logs (back-Logs… get it?) now for all the Crafting progression you’ve already made”. When courts change a precedent, statutes of limitation on damages apply automatically to all cases that came before the decision was overturned (unless it was a human rights violation which obviously this situation IS NOT). There has to be some direct pre-existing cause for that level of entitlement which assumes that the buyer couldn’t possibly have known all the risks and at the same time proves that the acting company was actively concealing all evidence of said risks. …..but enough legaleese, this is about trends. Supply is actually trending downwards and will continue in that direction if the Dry-Top geodes & whatever-else tiny-zone event farming is any indication of where Anet’s new story direction is.

.

Also, where is that Dev Digest on their plans to “Change/Expand” on the end game Treadmill? …. let me try and find the exact quote here where that was leaked out with other LS2 info…. ah yes, here: " http://i.imgur.com/o0v29zi.jpg " …..this isn’t just a material disparity, it creates a Class disparity too. So where is this “Team”? Do they understand how inter-connected all of this stuff actually is? Anet’s Transparency levels are at an all-time low over a 10 year history. If they WEREN’T, then I’d already have all the dataming evidence needed to prove that the market is definitely not “Bearing” this obscene disparity.

Jon Peters reads this forum from time to time.

But he couldn’t give two craps about PvE and he’d probably say that to us in all honesty as well in any room where there wasn’t a camera or an internet connection. …They’re still glomming onto this idea that they can make the game E-sport worthy without even realizing what Real big shift in “e-sport” actually took place lately.

E-sport USED to be about who had awesome skills in a game that had extreme learning curves. IE: your Starcrafts in Korea, your DOTA’s here for the custom map players, your Counterstrikes, Tribes/Quake2/Unreal Tourney & and SSBM Tourney kids. Basically all stuff that needed to be shoutcasted so you had someone do a “Madden” and explain what was happening to a couple of the people in the audience who didn’t understand what made a great play. But things changed when LOL came around… Viewerships jumped from 10,000’s…. to 10 millions….

Why?

B/c it was stuff people understood b/c they already used that same exact playstyle themselves. It’s the same reason Soccer is “the World’s Sport” while the rest of us here in the states only care about Hand-Egg, Hockey, or Nascar where you need super specialized gear and a personal support crew for every player on the field. E-sport is just plain old sport now. Infact the youtube vids that get the most viewership usually aren’t even about a great play, they’re usually about a Meme or something funny that happened instead. … or something trolly that everyone wants to immitate.

in Ranger

Posted by: ilr.9675

ilr.9675

I don’t think it needs a redesign…. (we just need Barrage unnerfed in PvE so we can actually kill Burrows and other key objectives once again).

If we need a new bow for long range, it should be a new weapon like a mini Ballista (that probably Necros … and … Thiefs I guess?? …would also benefit from… b/c they also need a long range option along with Guardians). For us specifically, It could even include a new mechanic, such as having the #5 skill (on a 3 second cooldown) camouflage & put us into a Manual mouse-based Aiming mode that doubled the damage or Condition durations we inflict with its skill much like Archer’s Signet used to. But with a big downside like also being rooted for 2 seconds everytime…

No little task was ever too Trivial for one of these Mary Sues to steal credit for.
As an Artist who’s had their work stolen/edited and reposted under a new name in obvious places I was obviously going to see it again, I think this is almost directly comparable.

Semi-out-of-topic

How do you guys expect the Ranger to play? I am asking because I am currently levelling a Ranger and I want to get an idea on how people like them to play.

I noticed most issues are on pets – what about it?

Stow the Pet and learn to have unlimited Dodging through Vigor exploits & 40% Endurance Food. Getting really good with the 1h sword takes a long time but is worth it. Faceroll the Greatsword if you can’t even do that much. But mainly: ditch the “WrongBow”, it’s only good in WvW and Farming. Not 5-man groups.
….Also learn which attacks by certain “deal-breaking” mobs CAN’T BE DODGED.
(Ie: Scavies, Lupicus, Snipers, etc…)

I agree that people should not do things that aren’t fun. But ANet is not trying to reward people for doing stuff they like. As usual there are a couple of options for getting stuff, the quick way (dungeons and temples) and the SLOOWWWWW way (jumping puzzles and world bosses). (Don’t mention WvW the rewards there are a joke).

All of it would be fine in small doses, but man, you have to do a lot of temples to get the necessary dragonite. None of it is fun, so I’m not doing it.

I actually like Temples and Dungeons so I’ve already got the 500 ea of those 2 mats.
But I agree completely with the small doses prequalifier… Trying to do all of this stuff at once has worn me out. I’m just a few dark matter & soft wood planks short of crafting that first Ascended, but I’m already too worn out to cross that finish line.
