I do kind of feel like Anet sold us a Lie here …. :\

“The Deal” they promised to this class, was supposed to be that the ranger alone, was pretty weak. But fighting with the pet to well above average competency, should have atleast elevated it over MM necros & Warriors just chaining Autos. …if not, THE BEST dps in the game. We knew we weren’t going to have the best Spikes. We accepted that. We just wanted respectable overall DPS. …which has been trimmed away in clumps every single patch it seems. Often through stealth nerfs even.

This is uncharacteristically underhanded of Anet.
And that should worry everyone who plays the game, not just Ranger die hards.

We could also use some sort of “Drop” from the Champions at these things….

I don’t mean more RNG coffers, no, I mean more stuff that helps beat the Event sooner.

  • Supply for building our own Siege like in WvW is one option…
  • Bundles that extend the time on the clock if a small team manages to escort them to a specific point without the carrier being downed. (kind of like CTF)

there’s probably lots of other options too for Anet to come up with…
…That they could also apply to Jormag since they removed loot from those champs

Those nerfs to Healing Spring are both unnecessary and very damaging to ranger support in dungeon teams. The long duration water field and the ability to boost melee vigour was one of the best tools a ranger could bring to get players to want them in a party.

Rangers so starved of desirable support options, hitting two of their bigger ones in PvE (and WvW) is such a stupid move. It won’t kill rangers in dungeons but a ranger are just getting further away from that slot in the party.

My staff ele has so much complexity in the boons it offers, the utility it offers and the support it can provide (water fields, blast finishers, control skills, condition removal) it was really nice for the ranger to boast the longest lasting water field in the game and be able to trait for vigour to prove that small bonus to the party to make the warriors happy the ranger dropped it. That really sucks if it makes it through.

Water fields are central to how the WvW meta works, zerg combat revolves around dropping water fields and using blast finishers. A 33% duration nerf to the best tool rangers brought to the WvW meta is going to lead to even more rangers desperately searching for a way to contribute to their server and coming up a full 5 seconds shorter.

This is a really solid argument.

I hope Anet hears it and explores other ways (LIKE TRAITS) to give us that 33% back if we were really counting on it. One example: Making the Boon Duration & Condition Modding stats also improve the duration of all Fields and Combo effects that we initiate. For example: I have to run both Torch, and fire-trap just to keep a Fireshield on myself even 66% of the time and I’m literally jumping through hoops just to get that much. Having to sacrifice too many of our Utility slots is a real problem and we need better build support and compression in this specific area.

If you’ve ever utilized an Ele’s Combos/Initiatiors for example, you notice instantly that their durations last almost twice as long as our’s do. That’s just not fair!

On my server, running champions in Queensdale provides much enjoyment for a large number of people. New and experienced players alike band together…..

You’re “banding together” to smack a Pinata though….

You’re telling us this is the ONLY ZONE you could possibly do this in?
How bad could you possibly be at this game that you need to “band together” for champs that most people could (and often do) easily solo??

What’s changed? Do they just have too much content in the oven all the time to care about what’s already released and being played??

Who asked this question before??

Why are TRAPS TRAITS, in SKIRMISHING instead of under WILDERNESS?

The more I think about it, and how that’s exactly where they were in GW1, and that AFAIK, Traps aren’t supposed to Crit, they’re supposed to CONDITION MODIFIER. And the Condition increase is in Wilderness Survival.

Yes this is most definitely a PvP question (that would help PvE’ers a lot too maybe?).

Only the most blind fanboy would still defend Anet at this point.
The game is a mess on most fronts. From SPvP, WvW to the PvE side. Not properly tested updates and badly designed content is running rampant.

Yep, and they’re clearly not listening to feedback with open ears.
In the vast majority of their comments and interviews, you can see all the humbleness they started out with is GONE. ….there’s being a sensitive artist that also just so happens to have built up thick skin, and then there’s what they have…. Only way to describe I think would be: “a Kormirian Complex”. (soon to be replaced by the Trehearnian Dragon Complex).

It’s not nearly as arrogant and pedantic as most god complexes are, obviously it’s following nothing but a Road of good intentions. But Abaddon’s story also started off with nothing but good intentions (and he was seriously popular b/c of it, with almost as zealous a following as Dwayna). … but that’s not how “listening” works. That’s not how a customer service industry works either. You don’t just tune out the criticisms once all the Fanfare dries up and spend the rest of the year building pity-party Festivals for yourselves while the franchise goes down hill. You acknowledge it and then tell people that you’re going to try to improve on that part and then trust them with exact details on how you plan to do it.

THAT ALONE, impresses your Fans a lot more than the actual execution of it. And it keeps them as fans too instead of risking them crossing over into being critics when you keep doing the exact opposite of what they were hoping for. The finished product / execution itself is just there to try to win over the critics. If that doesn’t succeed, you don’t take it personally or go hide in your stupid Ivory Tower again ….Besides, it’s a lot more fun to flip it around and ask the critics what they would have done differently (then laugh b/c they usually don’t have a good counter response).

dungeons fine, op is bad at game

Which is actually Anet’s fault though…

When we were in Beta…. even stuff out in the open world was actually a Challenge to fight. People had to get good. Events would actually fail when there was too many leechers. Yeah it was a steep learning curve, but it actually did something useful: It made people use timing and CC and positioning and Combos to get every little extra benefit they could. Fire Ele: compare that in beta to the ShadowBehahahaha. It killed entire Zergs until it was nerfed. And so was all the other open world mobs. What really should have been a steep learning curve, was dropped down a few stories so that what should have been the skill level people acquired by reaching 80, would have actually meant something.

As time has gone on…. There’s been this festering …. pool … of easy-mode crapola giving the fastest rewards in the game. COF / Champ Train. Even brand new players are still sucked into this Idiot-Mold the instant they roll a new human (as most do) and step out of into Zergsdale where everything is still handed to them on a silver platter. It’s “indoctrination”.

Then all this Living Story stuff hand-crafted for them, Scarlet invasion especially (but also things like Ember Farm they didn’t address nearly fast enough). Heck nearly all of the Dragon’s Generals were also a joke, especially Shatter. …Should probably even include WvW in here b/c the “Blob” still rules there.

.

Granted, some people who find this stuff easy, do so b/c they spent years in Gw1 or other more difficult/deep games like DaoC, Elderscrolls, Demonsouls, etc. But that didn’t mean new players to the franchise couldn’t eventually do the same. They’d just be about a year behind the rest of us …. like they are right now. Except they actually would have had a bridge between skill levels and carrots that were appropiate. Nope…. instead anet just threw the carrots at them too early and now there’s this huge skill gap but they all expect the same rewards that much more experienced & observant gamers put in real time for. :\

I guess I don’t understand why people continue to play in spite or come back and post here to try to convince people that the game is bad.

Because you’re not listening…. It didn’t start off bad.

Now…. It didn’t exactly start as great as Anet themselves said it would, and there was never any way it would EVER live up to the “Unreleased MMO Hype Tier” Fantasy most RPG’ers have a horrible tendency to build up in their own minds. (Hence why they’re Fantasy RPG’ers, b/c their imagination is generally the best Movie/Game generator specifically for them that will EVER exist with today’s currently tech limits).

So yeah, it didn’t start off bad… but there’s been almost no Quality of life additions aside from Rendering option in WvW. Balance has all been completely 1 sided. They lost probably a 1/3 of their base back during the Ascended items debacle. The crafting gets you no where, while the economy has been nothing but runaway inflation. And the cash shop is mostly a casino. The Living story had a couple fun minigames here and there but certainly nothing you could build a genuinely replayable MMO around.

That’s okay though… No reason to go off half kittened and tell everyone with criticisms to Get da kitten OUT if we don’t like it… That’s not how this franchise was ever meant to work. Cuz y’know… if We don’t like it, we can play less or in some cases not at all till things get better again b/c we ALREADY paid for the game. This is not some F2P Forum where your’re either providing content for the Paying customers by being an Easy kill for them (like in Planetside) or YOU ARE that monthly paying customer. No no no… we already payed. We can send in that feedback just whenever…. whenever it’s convenient or the mood strikes basically.

And hey… Some years it takes Anert longer than others to see the light. Sometimes, like in Factions’ case, it took them 2 or 3 years. And that’ll just lead to either a gridlock of feedback or a return to daily login levels seen back when the game took 2+ years just to hit that 2 million sales. (and Gw*2* would probably hit 5 million a lot faster if they were doing more things that lived up to their Manifesto).

So the game’s not dying… (it can’t die, it already sold 3 mil copies)
…it’s just not really going anywhere very quick. And this MyFace thing proves it.

Overall, I’m not actually finding Ascended Mats to be a major grind.

With ONE BIG EXCPETION … Empyr Shards … I think they’re dropping at roughly half the rate they should really be dropping at. The worst part in WvW with them is you have to tag the enemy Guild Claiming NPC pretty hard in camps to get any of them at all. There’s also several very difficult Jumping Puzzles that are only giving ~3 of them, or NONE AT ALL

Speaking of WvW: Dragonite Ore there is even worse for those guys:

I think Anet owes WvW’ers a big apology right now.

Infact even group events are still being completed there including the Lich champ after the explosives escort, and the Undead Megalodon with the hilariously broken damage & attack animations

These aren’t small little deserted servers either like Henge or SF. These are servers that also complete Jormag, Grenth, & Balthazar every…single…night

Anet obviously made a huge mistake here with the HP coefficient (instead of using scaling and other more entertaining fight mechanics). Eventually they’ll have to admit to those mistakes by changing it AGAIN.

since this content is for everyone and missing out on a title really sucks if there’s no chance to get it back later :<

All that does is cheapen the value of that title. Just like legendary weapons and T3 armour isn’t that prestigious anymore, because it probably just means that the person spent hours upon hours farming CoF P1. Exploiting, fixing races, endless QQ about WvW’s inclusion in the Living World achievement section, all that is doing is killing the prestige from these things. There are already plenty of participation rewards out there.

Well to be fair, those things were gonna have cheapen value anyway.
T3 you can just buy, just do CoF runs and viola.
Legendaries are endgame, so eventually most will go for them. Heck, I’ve almost got one now! lol

No what cheapens it is the Fact that Anet designed it cheapened on purpose.
First it’s only worth 10 AP. You get more than twice that just collecting the stupid crystals on the race course itself. Add to that the randomness of it and Latency. Even spamming grounded, there will be a few times where you just fly off the course for no reason at all (usually lag or a skill not activating when or on-who it should-have). And most of all… it’s a MINIGAME for kittens sakes. It’s supposed to be Trivial. The people who stay in it for hours on end just to deny other first, are really only trolling themselves. Even camping WvW puzzles has a bigger impact on the math (and DubVee rankings sometimes too)

..mainly b/c there’s no where else to go… not without transfering servers, lol.

Nobody likes difficult content, it’s a myth.

There are 2 different sets of players; those that want easy content and those that want exclusive content.

The first set wants the game to be incredibly easy so they can relax, socialize and generally progress with minimal effort.

The second set wants content that is tuned specifically for them so they can beat it and subsequently brag about it to players unable to beat it.

Notice, no where in there did I say either set wants difficult content. When given the option of being handed a $100 bill or being given a days worth of work and being paid $100 for it, no rationale person is going work when they can get the same reward without working.

+1 to this post…. …with one major modification to the “Bragging Rights” part….

And not as an echo’er of “dwaaahhh, it’s too hard guys” …. no, as the second camp of desiring Exclusive content. Case in point: my guild team on our first run-through, wiped twice in this new Twilight dash pirateship is steampunk assault cartoon… and both times were due to glitched/bugged sections or an achievement-kittening part of it, not in the areas that puggers get completely kitten-blocked in.

This was clearly designed as content that even Anet themselves struggled with and had difficulty on if you watched their LiveStream where their guys (in Sentinel gear) who had done it several times by that point, were still taking too long. Thus their expectations for all of this content … is somewhere along the lines of extended replayability for those who struggle but never give up on it, followed by what I’d assume is casual bragging rights afterwards. Just like how they were convinced this Tequila thing would take everyone several days before anyone beat it, and lots of guilds giving it their all weeks after that.

But that’s not where reality goes usually, and definitely not where opinions go either. Exclusive content gives us a sense of purpose in a world that otherwise is devoid of meaningful rewards for skill and problem solving. But we don’t rave about it or brag about it usually until it reaches a point that 1 of the “Exclusivity” players puts out a video for solo’ing this content that 5 pubbers still couldn’t beat after a dozen attempts. And it’s not that the content was ever truly challenging. It’s because the content was mostly artificial difficulty that we are seen constantly patronizing more casual players and Anet itself over.

Thus we’re the ones who are considered the bad guys here simply because we not only embraced this content, but we completely dissect that content into it’s most base mechanics, and then demonstrate our results with working models and videos…. much like doctors or scientists do (with the exception that our work will never benefit all of mankind or save anyone’s life … nor should it be expected to since this is only a hobby). And as was the case with this latest dungeon path, we even published our theories on it a whole day or two before it went live. A lot of people who don’t subscribe to this exclusivity niche may find that really annoying, grating even. Especially Anet themselves. And as a result, will continually look for excuses to ignore our input and theory crafting. IE: mistaking our modus operandi for malice.

It’s not Malice though…. It’s just how we operate.
We don’t want more gimmicky content anymore than you casual folks do…
Hence why we criticize it and dissect it and then trivialize it the way we do.
Yes we have a messaging problem, obviously…. Who doesn’t at this point?

.

If anyone seems to revel in the fact that it’s exclusive content….
It’s not because it’s excluding too many people…. it’s b/c it proved our theories.
As long as it keeps playing to our strengths like this? … we will embrace it.

There shouldn’t be any quickly respawning champs in ANY starter zones in direct proximity to the most populated cities. Anet knows they need to do a better job of distributing rewards and populations….

(this doesn’t mean Frostgorge needs a huge nerf though…. maybe just a 30 minute downtime on the respawning of all champs in the zone whenever Claw of Jormag is active so that the events aren’t in direct competition with eachother and completing the biggest one….. opens the other smaller ones back up again. Competing priorities is definitely a sticky wicket for Anet right now)

Well #1, you need an Exploration buddy. The Buddy system is VERY important for certain map completion objectives.

But the other thing I wanted to say…. is if you think this is bad, you should try Planetside2.
THAT GAME literally gave me an Ulcer. And I don’t mean “oh it p***ed me off really bad”, no I mean 2 different doctors, 1 internist, and 1 psychiatrist, both diagnosed it as stress induced b/c blood tests showed no biological causation or preconditions towards it. And the only “stressful” thing in my day was that game. I quit it immediately and played GW2 to relax for a few months and now it’s in remission. Yes Gw2 can have some frustrating points in it. But it’s not the worst, not by a long shot. And if you stop what you’re doing and take more time to re-evaluate your strategy and daily routine in it, or just plain old ask for help…. it can actually be stress-relieving.

It’s all in your approach :\ …(yet another reason for the buddy system, constructive socializing like the buddy system is very helpful therapeutic usually)

No

The ball’s in Anet corner to atleast bring it down to the DPS required to kill Karka Queen
(Which is actually a lot MORE rewarding ironically and requires better situational awareness and selfless-deeds as well).

There’s several ways they could do this too:

  • Allow Purging & Rezzing efforts made by players on other players (otherwise known as cooperation and community-building) to extend the Timer slightly.
  • Allow condition and crit builds to affect Teq’s HP’s the same way PVT’ers do.
  • SCALE HIS STUPID HITPOINTS TO THE TOTAL POP OF THE SERVER (IoW: Devona’s & Fergusson’s shouldn’t be expected to face the same % TC & JQ do).
  • Allow champions to drop Siege Supply that additional Siege can be built with.

They don’t have to just nerf its HP’s globably…. infact that would cheapen the achievements of everyone who got theirs during “BossWeek”. But they DO have to fix this horribly shortsighted “DPS check” design and make it into an actual repeatable fight where you’re watching what’s happening AROUND YOU instead of all our focus being on the UI and a teamspeak channel….

DPS checks are boring and overused. GET GOOD ANET. Kill the DPS check. Replace it with a “Community Goodwill” check.

This is what Regina always did on the wiki too…

If you have to “forward” stuff to people to get them to see it, it goes without saying that they weren’t interested enough to actually do anything about it in the first place. I think a lot of us accepted a long time ago that Anet’s devs are always going to do what they think is best for the game. And that’s fine. Design is an “Art” first & foremost. Rushed content that people clearly weren’t enjoying themselves making, is the WORST content and we don’t want anymore more of that thanks. But they still do owe the paying customer some sort of best-guess as to when they can get back to this aspect of the game.

If it was important enough to have its own separate forum, then it’s important enough to keep a schedule posted so that everyone who takes a break from it knows WHEN to come back. That’s been the whole point of Guildwars since 2005… we’re not supposed to be only playing one part of it all the time. It’s supposed to be something we can put down and come back to later. So just clarify when “Later” should be, and everything will be squared away here.

Arena games were something we all did because the technology just wasn’t there to support any other format. It’s time to move on. This includes their balancing team. The Ranger was left behind and calling anyone who doesn’t find Arena “fun” anymore “QQ’ers” or bad at the game…. is ignoring the big picture here and just living in the past. Move on. Adapt. Doing it once, and then rarely ever again is not Replayability. MMO’s are like Rent-to-Own. If you don’t own that part of the content then you really have no credibility in the first place to be giving lectures on it

Heh… gotta agree with the OP…

I don’t spend all my time in the Lore sections, but I couldn’t help but notice that GW2 feels like “Bleach” waiting for the rest of the Fights against the real Arrancars. Gw1’s storylines after Nightfall didn’t exactly hit it out of the park everytime either… but atleast they made us feel like we were still moving forward in time towards some stuff that was epic b/c it was epic (not epic b/c they changed the top tier of our gear treadmills).

I think I’d rather sit through 8 more Zinn Trials than do some of the stuff I’ve seen on the docket here…

Legendary weapons were a Psychological Case Study contracted by the Government.
Their purpose is to study the effects that Fluoride in water supplies had on nerds in various parts of the country. The study requires more than a year to conduct however which is the main reason that a Scavenger hunt that should only have taken 2 months to build, is taking much longer. It certainly has nothing to do with the high probability that Mrs Murdock could have fallen over in her chair again

I crafted a set of light ascended armor early and would not be upset at all if they lowered it to 50. I’d be very happy for my alts and everyone else who didn’t have to deal with this issue.

THANK YOU!

They’d raise the refine costs of the other materials to 100 before lowering this back to 50.

In fact, they should raise the refine costs of the others to 100, and I’m kind of curious why they haven’t already.

And what is your Reasoning for this? What do you say to long time Casuals and Critics of Ascended Gear treadmill who point out that the marginal increases in Stats aren’t worth 10x the work Exotics require? You want to make it 20x the effort? Why? Do infusion Slots increase your Gold-Farming 10x-20x? …Is there some secret to Fractals you’re not Sharing?

Do you just really really like Treadmills?

The depth to which skill continually fails to be rewarded on this class, never ceases to amaze me. Even the most trivial of details never fails to escape the overarching black hole of its careless almost malicious design.

I read it. You didn’t have a point. You thought you did. Maybe Learn to play first? ..and then maybe you won’t feel like your point is being missed??

Every skilled player in DIFFERENT gear, is not OP. A skilled player in Sentinel’s is completely wasting their Skill potential. They already had evades & interrupts and dodging to deal with most of the slow attacks every mob in the game puts out roughly 2 seconds apart. When you get REALLY good, you can actually anticipate when the next big Skill is coming b/c they use it upon recharge usually. This is the FACTS that you can not argue against. You are not allowed, to say that Defense combats the overall timesink of the PvE game at the same level that pure Offense does currently. Defense quickly hits a point of diminshing returns.

Do you understand what a diminishing return is?

I found Illyria very helpful when soloing the Mage Crusher (which opens up the WP for everyone else in the party).

You guys should just be Grateful they didn’t end up being a bunch of Master Togos

.

But yes for the sake of BUGS they definitely need a “What’s our Status (are we stuck?)” Dialogue that forces a Variable reset and a series of simple boolean checks (is X & Y Boss Dead?) to make sure they opened the doors and objectives they were supposed to open.

Straits of Devastation, Both parts involving escorting the subs to Brassclaw.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcPFgGqlSfM

That’s not LAG. That is a constant upward force resetting everyone to the surface in the confines of the this Event.

This doesn’t just happen to players, it happens to the NPCs and even the Enemies near the subs. And then in the second Phase, it doesn’t even start because half the NPC’s can’t get into position or something to trigger it to begin. So the whole Event stalls out and never starts.

Champ loot: wrong solution to wrong problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’d say the biggest problem is what they put in the Boxes.

Basically…. more silver than any Event gives. Plus Greens with a minimum merch value
Atleast as much as COF generated if you do nothing else all day long.

And that’s the key word here… GENERATED.
It doesn’t take a genius to realize they should have thought more carefully about what they put in these things and stuck mostly to Crafting goods & Herbs instead like most other loot-bags give. Except with a cleaner Table that eliminates stuff people obviously don’t want (like Silk & Leather). …Then everything would eventually hit a point of “Saturation”. There is no Saturation point however for gold. It can just inflate every other commodity infinitely… (or until it reaches some kind of technical hurdle like in GW1 where people started substituting Ectos & Armbraces)

Why is the aggro mechanic "secret"?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ilr.9675

ilr.9675

Because we have no scientist-minded players who want to do extensive tests on each AI to determine their aggro patterns.

It’s not for lack of trying… it’s for lack of CONSISTENCY.

There may actually be RNG elements which wouldn’t be the least bit surprising considering how many other areas of the game (esp rewards) are propped up with RNG.

Does the Clockheart lock all party members out of half the skills on their bar whenever a Warrior auto’s it with 5K damage Axes, and prebuilds Adren to 100b’s it?? Does it heal itself for huge numbers everytime a Mesmer or Guardian puts up a Feedback or grants the party Haste/Aegis??

NO???

Then it’s not Mallyx
(unless you’re a ranger…. then yes you’re definitely fighting Mallyx)

I’m tired of gold. I wanna put supply back into the market. Something other people can actually use. Like Thread/Herbs, Blood, and T6’s & stuff… But the only way to do that is farm in a tiny little circle somewhere out in open PvE until D.R. kicks in. There’s nothing social about that either. …oh hey but I just got some Champion Coffers in Orr though, that’s kinda almost from teamwork… Let me unbox those right now b/c Colin said they’d contain Materials we’d really like … and maybe some cores/rares…

  • Scroll of Skillpoint, crap Green, 1 Ori
  • Drip, crap Green, 2 silk
  • Drip, crap Green, Glacial core
  • Drip, crap Green, 3 intricate totems
  • Drip, crap Green, 3 silk
  • Drip, crap Green, 1 ori
  • Drip, crap Green, 2 silk
  • Drip, crap Green, 3 claws
  • Scroll, crap Green, 3 Thick leather

Total market Value?? ..about 1/2 what I spent on waypoints and dying to get it :\
Geeee… I feel so rewarded now.

3 hours of broken Events, just to get to these Priests & Champions… and nothing new to show for it. …Boy that sure makes me wanna hop into dungeons next and fight even more champions every step of the way with only 4 other people I barely know and get even more of this garbage.
