I think the biggest problem with the Ley Energy Research events is that they are too complicated for open-world events that you’re supposed to just run up and play. I was talking to a Commander that organizes the events and learned much more about them than I was able to by just participating.

1- you can go into WvW with any gear you want. You might die more but you may even learn how to play better. I personally roam and zerg with my full berserker thief. I am by no means a hardcore WvW’er as I enjoy all 3 game modes, but my last session of 2hrs I died twice. That’s not a lot really.

2- if what you state it’s too much buying new armor or buying some with dungeon tokens and just buying runes/sigils etc then I’ve got some real bad news when you actually start making a legendary.
If you want to make more legendarys you will need that armor longer than you think so maybe it is worth it afterall, if you think you need the armor in the first place, which you don’t.

Honestly, this whole Gift of Battle thing is being blown completely out of proportion. Had those who have sat in LA doing nothing, or doing yet another multiloot, or whatever you do for the umpteenth time, or check the forums for something to complain about, actually spent this time in WvW, you’d have the Gift that you’ve been complaining about.

Non Raiders blocked from XP bar spirit shards

GW2 used to be a game in which I could gain XP for my character in any way I chose:

You can still do this.

With the introduction of HoT, this has been changed to ONLY getting XP through the Mastery system. I no longer have a choice how I progress my character because there aren’t enough MP in any of the single modes for me to play ONLY how I choose.

You still get XP in all the ways you talked about until you are 80. Nothing changed. HoT ADDED post 80 progression, nothing about the old GW2 changed for levelling. If you want to play ONLY how you choose you’ll nerf yourself in core as well. I have no idea how much it would cost in time or money to level just by crafting (or even what the point would be) but a normal person, as we are being general about the playerbase here, will do hearts and map completion and try a dungeon and a fractal and the crafting system and so on. Post 80, with the new HoT stuff you are still doing all those things. What things do you hate that is stopping you get MPs? Surely all the things that pre-HoT you count as “playing your way”? What specifically do you need. I can’t promise I can get you those things but I’d be happy to come try unless it was anything in Dry Top as I am not a fan of it, makes me itchy.
You suggest “in the meantime, try raids, might even enjoy them”. I am not a child, I am an adult who knows what I like and doesn’t need “Mommy” Anet telling me to “try brocolli, you might like it”. I play games for enjoyment, not to be dictated how I should “play”.
Well that was a bit unexpected, sorry if I made you feel like you need “mommy” or something. Try raids.. why not? I have never tried brocolli, I’m pretty sure I am not going to like it and I have this really nice cake I’m going to eat instead. I’ve heard (pretty sure I’m being set up for something here) that cakes with stuff in them are just like cake. So carrot cake (don’t like carrots unless sliced in a can), aubergine and lime cake (never had or want to have aubergine), beetroot and chocolate cake (actually I’d try this). So I’m stretching a point, I’ll stop. You might like a raid was all I was trying to say, was not trying to trigger you.

Gift of Battle took me 2 weeks to get, playing WvW SUPER casually. Like maybe 30-40 minutes a night. On the other hand, Gift of Maguuma took me 4-6 months, and this was trying to map the zones, get help with the HPs, do the metas, and etc, etc 5 nights a week at 2+ hours. I would say that ANet is definitely giving us the better deal of the Gift of Battle. lol

You can play how you like. You just can’t get the wvw stuff unless you do some wvw. Nobody is making you play wvw.
But wait you say.. legendaries require wvw components! So play without a legendary then…

I think the problem here is that in your instance:
I love wvw (not really but we’re pretending)
You are “forced” to do wvw.
You believe I will be mad you are forced to play alongside me.
You are wrong. If you are my enemy I enjoy killing you, if you are my ally I enjoy the assist capturing keeps.
Maybe you’ll even realise that wvw with a group is actually quite good fun!

Or you can just be mad at the game, I don’t really care. I just got on with it, got what I needed and am back enjoying PvE with my legendary.

I wouldn’t be mad if it was changed so you didn’t need a wvw component. I’m not going to sit around waiting for that change however.. ymmv.

ANet and the case of Insider Trading

The best way to stop the insider info is to have a PBE server that gets everything far before the live production servers. Also having everything published on these forums rather than forcing people to go to 3rd party sites would help. I know arenanet likes to use the excuse of wanting things to be a surprise. The current way things are done gives huge advantages to select individuals like developer friends/family, 3rd party sites friends/family, and the lucky few play testers and their friends and families. It is like choosing every update who gets to win the lotto. If every patch I was privy to what items are about to skyrocket and I know this info weeks or even months a head of time, then I can start stocking up and get rich. Let a select few do this multiple times over a games life span and it is complete BS.

Please can we have Guild Recruitment In-Game

I very much support having the functionality for in-game guild advertisement without the need to spam map chat. In addition to making it easier/less spammy for guilds to recruit, it would also make it phenomenally easier for people (like recently me) to find guilds suiting their criteria without having to bugger off to places like google and Reddit.

I have seen this type of feature in many other MMOs, and I feel like it would be quite a nice QOL addition.

Please can we have Guild Recruitment In-Game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lady Elyssa.2469

Lady Elyssa.2469

I posted this suggestion over on reddit yesterday and seems the ideas were well received.

I think it is high time that guilds could advertise in-game without the need to spam chat channels or have to go off to 3rd party websites.

Here are some suggestions to be going on with:

  • Every City to have a Guild Recruitment Office where people could view guilds that are actively recruiting, see how many members they have, how old the guild is, which game modes they cover (PvE, sPvP, WvW, Raids, Dungeons, Fractals, RP, etc), timezone, language, along with a brief guild recruitment message, % rep, requirements and a little picture of the guild logo.
  • The Guild Recruitment office would also make it easier to contact guilds in-game based on external sources like the various guild recruitment channels that don’t require people to contact specific people in -game or to find out a guild is no longer recruiting and hadn’t removed or updated their post.
  • Guild Recruitment could be set to only be “active” for a set period, after which it would need to be reactivated. This would stop dead / inactive guilds blocking up the recruitment lists as well as assure people that a guild is genuinely active.
When players look at Guild Recruitment they will also be able to choose which servers guilds to view (for easy switching to a guild on another server) in addition to being able to contact the guild with any further questions.
  • Guilds would have a access to a new Guild Recruiter NPC who would frequent their hall and allow guilds to toggle their recruitment status to active / inactive as well as provide a short recruitment message.
  • Guilds would also require their own mailbox (separate from regular in-game mails) to respond to member enquiries and to be able to accept or decline membership.
The Guild Mailbox could also be used to send a message to everyone in the guild for Event Reminders, Policy changes, etc.
  • The Guild Mailbox would only be usable for those ranks with the correct privileges.
Guilds could also have some form of reward badge added to their recruitment post if they have achieved specific goals (e.g. age of guild in years , server loyalty, pvp tournament winners, etc). Special award badges could also be given to guild efforts within the community. A couple of examples might be for the GW2 Community organisers, The Asura News Network, etc.
  • Add a report option for Guilds that might want to abuse this system.

Redditors added the following suggestions:

  • Concern with trolls / spam for guild applications, perhaps this could be limited to X guild applications per day per account, recommended 5.
  • Having a Guild Crier in the Cities and LA to help make new people aware of guild recruitment that could also “shout” some text from the currently recruiting guilds for that particular server.
  • Having a Guild Calendar for Guild Events.
  • Some were in favour of a dedicated recruitment channel, that can be toggled off as per the other chat channels but is automatically switched on for new players. For those repping a guild the recruitment tab would no longer be visible unless manually reselected or not repping.

It would be good to hear any other suggestions that that people might like to add.

^^ I could have used the term trolling instead of rambling but avoided it, but I’ll use it now. It seems like a troll thread given the OPs history and many of their posts in this thread. So if you all want to go ahead and entertain that go for it. I think everything has been explained enough to the OP through this thread and their other thread on the same issue that got closed. But people do love their forum PvP. /sigh

Given the off chance the OP is not trolling you said it best yourself.

He’ll either need to come to terms with the game changing without his permission or he will need to find a game that doesn’t change as he’s not going to get what he wants here.

His posts are a bit more odd than when you started updating the gem store sale thread from your alt.

Every time this thread gets bumped up with replies to the OP it takes space from the limited amount of IMO more genuine threads and discussions that are displayed on the front page. Just my 2 cents and the last I’ll have to do with what I see as an attention seeking troll thread.

Obtena. That is a main problem. I did not just bought the right to play. I bought 10. SERVICE AND AVAILABILITY also. And I bought it in 2012. Why? Because I believed in a reasonable discretion.

You have service, and the game is available for use 99.9% of the time. So, you got what you paid for. And:

“You acknowledge that ArenaNet may in its reasonable discretion provide subsequent versions, enhancements, modifications, upgrades or patches related to any part of the Service.”

Again, you got what you paid for. So, please, quit with the false claims.

Ahh well, insider Trading has been seen in GW1 as well. So it is not a problem of last 4 years it is a problem from more then 10 years. Their were ppl who stocked matiriels never used before and at the end they wre rich cause of Patches. And they just say it was luck.

Well it happens 1 Time 2 Times but not thatmany that u just ask urself how does he know what to stock.

I gave it up.

It was discussed in Gw1 on the Guru sides, but deaf ears on Anet.

Next point is that Anet is regularing the Market in the Name of stabilizing the Market.

Well they buy stocks they sell stocks. They raise droprate they drop droprate.

The n… tell u that it is rng. But u need just to change a few numbers to change the drop value.

And they can generate inifinite Gold and items.

Basicly u have just to accept their doings or leave this game.

Their is an rng in this game. But it is not that high compared to the doings of Anet manually.

It hurts my sense of fair play, but it doesn’t hurt me financially.

All about you is it? “Doesn’t hurt me, so the everyone else should be fine with it.”

It’s a good thing most of society in RL doesn’t have that attitude.

Most of society in RL does have that attitude. People (on the whole) vote with their pocket books, not with mine.

Regardless, that’s a misstatement of my opinion by taking the quote out of context — I’m not fine with people cheating. I hate it.

What I’m saying is that despite my frustration, there’s no long term, practical impact on the vast majority of gamers. There’s always someone in every economy (RL or game) that stretches the rules or exploits a mechanic to gain an advantage not available to everyone else. But the GW2 economy is so huge that it dwarfs the effects of folks using insider information to make lucrative trades.

Ok, so let’s go with that for a bit. When do we start allowing other things to slip through? Where is the line then drawn? People will scream “why are you punishing us for x when insider trading is allowed?”.
It needs to be stopped. If anyong was making thousands of gold off an unfair advantage ANY other way, Anet would permanently ban them in a heartbeat.

From this thread and previous thread, the OP has unrealistic expectations. He appears to have never have played an MMO but only single player games and bases his expectations on that.

He wants everyone to be able to play the game build at time X they want. Some people playing the at launch version, some playing the fall of Lions Arch version, some playing the Scarlet map invasion version, some playing the HoT pre nerf version and so on and so on, and all of these people with different versions and different skill balances somehow able to play together. He doesn’t seem to realize how impossible this wish is. This is the backbone of his complaint when he talks in this thread about changes and not having given permission for these changes. That he wants to return to vanilla gw2, wants to give permission for any changes and doesn’t understand that the game changes as a whole and it’s impossible for the devs to get permission to make changes. At best they can poll to see if people really like or dislike a suggested change.

He’ll either need to come to terms with the game changing without his permission or he will need to find a game that doesn’t change as he’s not going to get what he wants here.

What exactly are you arguing for OP? I have read your premise several times now and I still do not fully understand what you are complaining about. This is an online game. Patches are not just for fixing issues, they add content and changes to the game. I can’t see you getting much support here, as many of us like many of the changes that have come to the game.

Ascended gear is NOT OP. The minute you make weapons break is the minite you lose most of the player base. I have never seen other players refuse to help others in PvE, so your point on using low level equipment for low level dungeons is moot.

If you think your money was stolen, then file a ticket for a refund. Sorry, you didn’t like the changes, but you seem to be advocating something that goes completely against the idea of an MMO. If you don’t like changes, then why advocate for these drastic changes?

No, QLi doesn’t hate change. They just hate any change that they don’t like and want ANet to come out with a version of the game that only has the changes that they like along with some more changes that aren’t in the game currently. Which isn’t going to happen as that’s not how MMO’s work.

Or they want ANet to ask them if they approve of any and all future changes. And that’s ludicrous because if that’s the case, I want them to do that but with me. And every other person in the game would want to be that one player who gets final say on future changes. So it isn’t going to happen.

What you bought was not a car but the use of a car. You never owned that car and the owner can do whatever he wants. ANet owns the game. Your purchase was for access to the game ANet owns and to which ANet can make any changes it feels it needs to.

If the game has changed so much that you consider it to be the shell of the original game then maybe you’ll be happier finding another game. You’ll never get to play the vanilla version while other people are playing the current version and they’re not going to reverse the changes and go back to the launch version.

All MMOs change whether you like the changes or not. You can post your dislike of the changes and make suggestions but other than that your only choice is to continue playing or move on to another game.

So I bought a car. Developers decision was that a car I bought was not good anymore. Security problems.
So service people came to my home chopped the roof of, tires were replaced with tractor tires and the inside of a car has a pool. Its only the looks of a car. I did agree to a user agreement. Did not expect security works that way.

The difference is:
- when you buy a car, you buy a car, it’s yours, thanks for the money, see you, good luck.
- when you buy GW2 (or ANY online game, because all of them have the same terms), you buy the right to use a service (in fact you don’t buy the game itself) with a lot of terms you accept (or you can’t create an account to play). And those terms include “ANet can change whatever they want, whenever they want, without asking anyone”. You accepted that. Maybe you didn’t read anything and just clicked the box and “yeah, continue with account creation, I just want to play!”, but you accepted that.

Maybe you didn’t know it. You will never have the chance of playing original GW2 again. Deal with it. Life is cruel.

Maybe Anet can use the special key feature so that when you enter amber you just have to use special key in order to use harpoon instead of picking it.
Same thing for bombs, when you are around barrils, you automatically pick a bomb and you have to use special key to use it. This will solve issues with trolls

even better is that we will put it off response.

What exactly do you expect to happen? He said he has some ideas, but he’s not the coder and the coders don’t return until Monday. He’s also going to look at the logs to see if ANet can identify the trolls and apply some sort of proportionate response to their actions.

Would you rather that they just reflexively disabled everything in the game that could interfere with TT? Or that they figure out some sort of long-term response and see if they can make it happen quickly.

I definitely hate that people take advantage of the game’s mechanics to spoil things for others. But I think we’d all hate it worse if ANet reacted hastily and caused something worse to happen for more people.

I’d rather people not be overly sensitive – so a player did a little trolling to break up the monotony big deal the event will be back. The smallest harmless actions offend players who in return want blood – you might as well just be playing an online single player game with a heavily censored chat so that safespaces are kept intact.

It’s rather entertaining to send people into the lava after megadestroyer or to their icy death behind the ice wall at jormag.

LOL really? you don’t find that response entertaining? Where the typical anet “we will look into it” means weeks later and thats as he stated IF he even remembers next week to bring it up – most likely meaning at worst a silly warning but thats very doubtful as wvw has been dealing with this type of action since forever

According to the Reddit thread it wasn’t “a little trolling.” It was some sort of infighting over several events where people used this event to get back at other people. From other people’s comments further down it was several ex(?) guild members getting back at guildies commanding and playing at these events.

From that thread

Hestebridge

As someone who can speak for the “Trolls” I want to point out that what is being called “Trolling” is actually protesting. Now this may seem like a tenuous argument, however, I want to stress that this is NOT trolling for a wurm. The events that have been unfolding for the past week have been 100% due with infighting to-do with the dysfunctioning community. While a few people may have come to the event to simple “have fun trolling” the majority of the people there were doing so to force the people running the community to start listening to the issues that a large portion of its members feel; a portion who feel there was nothing left that could be done.

To stress, the issues that sparked this were NOT done to troll the normal people on the event and many of the people, including myself, felt pretty terrible for the “common pug”. Sadly, it was collateral damage.

I also want to point out that this is likely over now. It is likely that no one will want to hear my point now but I would suggest going to ts.gw2community.com or heck even ts.psdh.eu

Apologies again. If one thing, as someone who has actually commanded this event 100s of times, hopefully areanet will get rid of these bugs/issues with the event mechanics. (Including invisibility on kegs making them get removed)

I think when they decided to have 3 armour weights part of the reasoning was they wanted them to be distinctive, so you could always tell what kind of character you were fighting (at least generally) by looking at them.

Of course that went out the window with outfits being added, so it’s not really relevant any more. But they haven’t created many armour sets since then.

I’m really hoping the next expansion is going to include some more varied armor, like trousers for light armoured characters, less long coats for medium and…I don’t really know what I want for heavy, other than something a little bit feminine my asura can wear. (The carapace shoulder with the butterfly would be perfect, but she gets the male version.)

(BTW am I the only British-English speaker who always finds these topics a bit amusing? Over here pants is short for underpants, so I get this image of warriors running around in their boxer shorts.)
