It is most definitely a PvE first MMO. Not as much as Rift or WoW became, but much more so than I expected.
Hint: If you play both PvE and PvP, you will never be disappointed by an update
NSP – northernshiverpeaks.org
It’s an old holdover from those who always preferred PvP on GW1. Honestly, both type of players should just learn that it’s OK for each other to like those different aspects of the game. PvE players shouldn’t deny PvP players their fun, and viceversa.
In short, we should not complain whenever developers are working for either PvE or PvP content, because both deserve attention, and it’s selfish for us to want them to cater only to our specific wants. I rarely touch PvP, and have no problem with them working on it at all-GW2 also has PvP aspects, and that’s fine, especially since many players like that stuff. If the PvE game is to prosper, the PvP game should also do well (at least, that’s probably the theory behind all of this.)
A-net knows what they are doing, just have faith and behind every choice they make there is a good reason ; )
I don’t see the need to complain, let’s just accept the changes.
Hello folks, name’s BLU. Some of you may remember me. Back at launch I was one of the founding members of Team Tsunami, and I played actively until late February where I took a hiatus to get college, life, and other stuff sorted out. Well I’m happy to announce that I have been accepted to college, and now that spectator mode has arrived, I am coming back, and in a big way.
I want to cast, and i want to stream. I have experience casting getting pointers from Zael (some of you may remember him from GuildSource ) and working from games that I have saved. I have people ready to work with me, and they know everything I’ve missed over the past few months, and we are already working on our synergy as casters.
Starting on the 30th when spectator becomes available, we will be available 3-5 nights a week (pending on our IRL schedules, but never less than 3). No matter who you are (tournament organizer, team captain, nooby Mcnoobson, I don’t give a kitten) if you want your game’s casted, just ask. I want to make this game an esport (and if you have ever played with me you know that I want that to happen) , and I want to cast all of this now so that when and if this game ever shows up at DH, MLG, or anything else it can have the darn best caster combo possible.
So how do you get a hold of me and my co-caster? I’ve split this into two categories, so please follow them.
casting for scrims/casual tournaments : If I am online in game, the stream is live, or if I am on Skype (if you want my Skype ask me in game, I will give it out to anyone who is serious), so long as I am already not casting anything, just ask me, and PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK. There is about a 90% chance I will drop whatever I am doing at that moment and jump in for you, and even if my co-caster isn’t available I’ll jump in solo, because I need the practice and I want the practice.
casting for serious/preorganized tournaments : Please email ahead of time at DrBLU42@Gmail.com at least 2 and a half weeks in advance. Ill allow for anyone to ask me for anytime at the moment and I will try to squeeze it in, but anything beyond May 15th I need prior notification for to clear up any issues with my own personal/work schedule. I also need time to set up my studio/room for the event, which is why I may not be able to do some last minute requests. Regardless, even if it is passed the 2.5 week mark ask me anyway, and I will see what I can do.
All of the casual casting will be done from my channel and while I would prefer most tournaments to be hosted from my channel as well (I want to do it similar to how TobiWanDota runs his streams) I will not mind or be bothered if you want it on your own channel. I cannot stress this enough however, just ask me regardless of the circumstances, and I will try to do whatever I can do make it work
TL;DR: I was an active player, left for a few months. I’m back now to cast, I have Guildsource with me, so ask me to cast your stuff… please
Edit: Caed has graciously donated an account that I may use for casting on NA, so I am available in both regions now!
Let’s try this esports thing one more time, and lets do it right this time.

I got mine for like 30 or 40 at the mall here in Bellevue, WA. It was NOT $150.
If you pay $150 for a hat, it better protect from nukes, sharks, and make you breakfast on weekends.
That’s a lot for a hat.

Guild wars is a lore.
Because this game is massive letdown from GW1 in every single aspect except pve?
someone has tinted glasses syndrome.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
At first I felt the same way. That the encounters were more complex in GW1 because of such a vast array of skills and multiple mobs grouped together. But as I’ve played I’ve realized that combat is much more dynamic and active in GW2. With active dodging and jumping around, I feel like combat is actually that…combat. Before it was stand there and autoclick, your character moved as the attack required it. And I thankfully don’t have to rely on a group of henchies to wander around the world and survive fights. In dungeons you still have to prioritize targets, some buff allies, some summon minions, some dish out serious aoe. So instead of the healer enemy and the mesmer enemy, you have a more robust and balanced enemy.
We also have a lot of conditions & boons in GW2. More than were in GW1. And they lend way to the complexities of combat. We don’t have mesmers with Backfire. Instead, we have multiple professions dishing out Confusion. We don’t have necros with Spiteful Spirit. Instead we have Retaliation. Fury for spiking, Might stacking for burn phases (or whole fights), Prot, Aegies, Swiftness, Quickness.

Because the other thread on Guild Wars 1 combat wasn’t good enough. Well, you’re entitle to your opinion. I personally like the combat better in Guild Wars 2. I feel more involved with it.
At the moment I read ‘New Dungeon’ I was sold. The one thing our guild loves to do is dungeons, and I know I’m going to have a hell of a good time with my guildies in this new dungeon.
noob question, where is the patch notes?

I play and enjoy this game BECAUSE it has no “end game”. People who like and play this game are people who make their own end game. They decide what they enjoy and they do it. The game offers a variety of experiences for different types of players.
That describes a LOT of regular GW2 players I know.
I’m pretty surprised day after day that so many people feel this game needs to be WoW. If they like WoW so much… go play that.

Endgame, huh?
I’m pretty new to MMOs, with GW2 being only my second one. On the other hand, I have played many RPGs and generally more games than is healthy for a 22-year-old.
However, topics about “endgame” and the various points raised within don’t resonate with me as an MMORPG player. They resonate with the me as a “gamer”, a person who plays videogames.
People talk about “endgame” and use words like “progression”. To me, that sounds strange. As someone else pointed out, you’re not progressing as person, the developers are just altering the mold you’re playing in. You can’t even argue that the “endgame gear” is tied with your mastery of the game, as your skills within the game, namely knowledge and reflexes, are not tied to the gear, they’re tied to you as a person and the time you’ve spent with the specific set of rules.
Another thing is, why are you playing to “progress”? Is it tied to some kind of measure of self-worth? That you’re worth more as a person if you spend your free time “progressing”? Or is it that you find increasing numbers fun? Sadly, actually measuring your mastery of a videogame would be a boring task that is best left to the relevant scientists.
I’m not really a stranger to grinding for progression either, I’ve spent several hours in the past few days killing a total of 69 Grand Dragons in Final Fantasy IX to get Freya’s Dragon’s Crest to hit for 9,999 damage, all while also getting a Golden Chocobo, stealing like a boss and gathering a total of 80-something frogs for Quina. Note that pretty much all of those activities were dull. I found myself cursing when the frogs kept running away or when I found a treasure as the timer on Hot and Cold hit 0:00. Still, I did it. I’ve also spent over 100 hours doing similar things in each of the following:
- Kingdom Hearts (I actually started a project to get to level 100 on Destiny’s Island)
- Kingdom Hearts II
- Final Fantasy VII
- Final Fantasy VIII
- Final Fantasy X (300+ hours played)
- Final Fantasy XII
- Final Fantasy XIII
- Final Fantasy XIII-2
However, I did not do it to progress. I did not do it because it had a meaning. I did it because I loved the worlds. The worlds that had those characters I like, the characters I hated. The worlds that had those musics I could listen to hours on end. The worlds that remind me of someone interrupting me or commenting on how boring something looks.
To some, “progression” is about “skill”. However, from what I’ve seen on these forums, majority of the people are clearly not “skilled”. They might be able to do all the dungeons, they might have a ridiculously high PvP rank, a bunch of legendaries, could do the Mad King’s jumping puzzle blindfolded with their toes. Still, they do not display qualities of mastery. And further, what meaning is there in being “skilled” in a set of rules that someone else put forth?
I will admit, some of the most fun times I’ve had with games were in settings where you could argue for “progression by skill”. I spent hundreds of hours playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater nearly 10 years ago. Similarly, I spent hundreds of hours playing and researching in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction on my PvP barbarian.
To me, “the endgame” doesn’t exist. I don’t believe that I can ever truly experience and know everything there is to know about a game. And that’s not even getting into the roleplaying aspect. I would love to look at certain characters and analyze their philosophies, ponder why they did what they did, trying to understand the religion set within a game.
Crap, that became a lot longer than I figured. Grats to anyone who actually reads all of that.
Let’s put the facts together …
1/ on multiple occasion a.net has confirmed to be working on this
2/ in the meanwhile, we do have a functional lfg tool
3/ trolling always happens, trolls will adapt to the official tool, they won’t stop
Personally, I’m very much against wasting resources on something that already exists. For some reason, reinventing the wheel seems to be top priority for most of the community. They can have their way … eventually. Until then, I don’t care in the slightest.
Also, after implementation there will be 10000 threads about why the official tool sucks anyways. You heard it here first.

No OP, I am not annoyed, in fact I think it is really awesome and it shows the incredible creativity and dedication of the staff who works for Anet.
This kind of thing does a lot for productivity since employees who are having fun often give much more than those who are not.
well in all fairness if he’s got spare time then why not read the forums for suggestions he could potentially take to his team give us what we want.
You appear to have some spare time. Paint my house.

I’d like to see your reaction when your boss at work calls you at 9pm at night and says that well, since you’re still awake, you might as well come back in and handle phone support.

It’s pretty stupid to complain about one person from anet doing a minigame like this by himself and the fact that its a cinematic artist makes it even more stupid.
cinematic artists only creates content to other developers content, they only work when they are needed and they have a lot of free time because of that.
One of those artists with the free time decided to use that to create something small and fun for you guys and you rage about it, beautiful.
Maybe you don’t find it fun and thats fine, people have their opinions, but making the flash minigame did not damage anything related to the development of GW2 itself.
Bug fixes and new content are not what cinematic artists do.

hmmm. I don’t see any hypocrisy in clay’s posts.
The hypocrisy is that every time someone makes a thread praising the game or the developers Clay shows up with his mopey attitude to rain on their parades, when he could instead “just let it go and forget about it”.

…sPvP Updates Updated content in the form of rewards, tournaments, 2 new maps since launch, and tweaking to sPvP overall. This content is getting better and better with time. When custom arenas are added sometime in the near future -next patch or two- then it will further the enjoyment as guild fights and duels can start up within it. Only nudge against this section of the game is map objective variety, of which there needs to be more of (CTF, Destroy the Castle, etc.). But, still loving popping in every so often to slaughter a few, get slaughtered, and have a good ol’ time.

…Leaderboards To be perfectly honest, I don’t really care too much about leaderboards in an MMORPG. The score at the end of the week for WvW is the goal at that time; same for the score at the end of an sPvP match. However, this is still good content to those that want to be recognized for their achievements and progression within the game. It’s great for them to have that kind of measured accomplishment and compare it to the rest of the game’s players.

…Balances, Bug Fixes, and More Basically a “job well done” on all the normal MMO patch updates that goes on. The balance, though not perfect, isn’t ever completely out of wack like some other classes in other games (*cough*Warlocks*cough*). Bug fixes are progressing nicely with it being understandable that it does take time to fix complex bugs without breaking something else within a tied system.
So, to close with what I’d originally stated: Thanks for EVERYTHING. Every bit of content you added to this game, or will add. Be the content temporary or permanent changes, it still adds to the overall player experience in the game. And the focus of the content doesn’t just stay in one little area either, as different parts of the game are added to: sPvP, WvW, exploration, PvE, jumping puzzles, story. That shows care for all your customers, not just a select few. Thank you.
A.Net,
Thank you for everything in the game. First let me just state that everything that came in the basic box was more than my money’s worth for the $150 (CE owner here, have all the prints framed on walls and Rytlock on a shelf). The game was very fleshed out, tons of fun that me and my guildmates enjoy immensely. But, that wasn’t good enough for you as you just had to keep adding content each and every month. Great content. Fantastic content. So, I want to thank you…
Thank you for….
…Halloween What a blast, literally! Mad King blasting through the Lion’s Arch fountain, all the fun tiny things with the event. The jumping puzzles, ghost Yaks, skeleton mobs, candy corn nodes, costume brawl, item skins, Reaper’s Revenge, the Labyrinth, Mad King’s fight. It was all so fun and there was content for every play-style.

…Lost Shores Somewhat of a bumpy “shipwreck” (ha!), it was still great enjoyment. The best part was how there was the mystery that led up to the events, with the signs on the shores, the Consortium showing up, the washed up whales. All those things culminating towards the Karka’s invasion of Lion’s Arch, the big fights against them, and eventually the chase to Southsun Cove. The final fight was long (4hrs on my server), but very challenging and rewarding at the same time. Another temporary event that’s not only cemented in that new (at the time) zone, but in the encased Ancient Karka statue at the basin of the nest.

…Wintersday A great holiday for one and all. Another great holiday jumping puzzle, mini-games in the form of Snowball fights, free mini-pets, free everlasting potions, cool toy weapon skins, bell choir, and tons of good ol’ holiday cheer. ***A personal note: my guild was one of many that created their own events by all taking Reindeer potions and running as a ‘herd’ through the WvWvW battlefields. The confusion and laughter that it created as very entertaining and fun.

…Flame and Frost Though a bit slow to start, this arching story line adds to this being a Living World and not just a static game that many others are. Each time updated, there are things like more refugee camps, more signs of warning, more enemies popping up on the roads. The climax of this event should, based on the description, be an entertaining end to an odd alliance of cats and mole people.

…Super Adventure Box It’s a dungeon! No, wait, it’s a jumping puzzle! No, wait, it’s a game within a game! No, wait again, it’s an educational stimuli for training future generations of Tyrians! No, wait further more, it’s 8-bit inception! No, wait one more time, it’s a device to make all of Tyria hate monkeys! Wrong! It’s all of the above and then some. An exceptional distraction from the everyday norm of the game, which is fun and exciting. The mode known as “Infantile Mode” makes the content enjoyable for even those who are jumping-puzzle inept. The skins for the game are amazingly cool for skins that are free from the dreaded Black Lion Chests; also being able to get the Super Fun Boxes from the even, rather than just the Gem Store, is a really sweet touch too.

…Mini-Dungeons This is something that many are unfamiliar even exist or were patched in. Vexa’s Lab is one of the most amazing dungeon experiences I’ve had in the game. The boss fights in these are uniquely fashioned, the puzzle aspects make one think, and overall they present a distinct challenge that can be either soloed or taken on with friend, guildmates, or PUGs.

…Fractals Love and hate content, for sure it is. The addition of the new gear Tier stirred the bot of boiling anger amongst many, but the new dungeon content that came with it brought love and enjoyment. Though there are quite a few that speed run these solely for daily tokens, attempts at chest rings; there are also those that run these for the interesting fractal zones for the fun of it (maybe I’m the only one?).

…WvWvW Ranks & Changes A much beloved change to that section of the game, these ranks give purpose and “progression” to content that some deemed lacking direction. Though some adjustment may be needed to the WXP gained from doing PvE mob events (worm, Warg, Centaur, etc.), overall it’s a welcome change. And the removal of culling: AWESOME! That one change alone has brought back many who could not stand getting stomped by otherwise invisible enemies.

If we’re losing someone who refers to those with whom he disagrees as “fanbois and losers” I’d say good riddance.
