People are unhappy because they don’t get an extension, just as they are unhappy with everything that departs from their little habbits.
Yet I am very happy that ANet is willing to experiment with a lot of new things with GW2. That is how we will have fresh air and hopefully an end to an endless stream of empty WoW clones.
Had not nature experimented for 3.5B years, there would not be anything more than bacteria around.
I have yet to see a game which expansion keeps me really busy more than one month, while LS kept me busy for one year.
And as someone mentioned elsewhere, keeping on adding new content just dilutes the playerbase overtime. What they are doing here is smart in that they keep the playerbase focused on ever changing content, hence reinforcing the feeling of taking part to a MASSIVELYmorpg.
Just show me another MMORPG where you can consistantly find hundreds of players playing the same content at once for one year.
To me it is quite obvious that ANet has chosen the path of emphasizing player cooperation through massive events, be it PvE or WvW. I won’t say it is a good nor bad choice, it is a matter of personal taste. But for the moment they don’t show sign of departure from that line since the release and you should better spend your energy adapting to it than crying on the forum. You will start enjoying it after a while, when you finally accept that a game can be enjoyable despite not following the “classical” model.

Quests never really went away. What changed was the delivery system, and I think GW2 vastly improves on the ‘exclamation mark’ system. Even now, playing single player games, I get so frustrated when I manage to do things like complete part of a quest by accident or find an important quest location, but it didn’t count because I hadn’t already spoken to the quest NPC. Convenience features like that are why I love the dynamic event system.
On the one hand, explicit, instructional quests as are present in most mass marketed MMOs canbe a great way to see the countryside, learn your character, and gain rewards. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does get old pretty quickly… I cannot count the times I have gone to quest hub A, gathered up all the quests, gone out, done them, and return to hub A only to be told to go to B and repeat. That isn’t as fun as it was when MMOs were new to me.
GW2’s syetm of DEs is great, but some of the most fun I have had soloing in zones is following those people who come running up to you and say something like “Hey, You! Over Here!” and then lead you on to a few linear objectives.
For instance: The little boy who builds the snowmen out of used armor pieces. If you help him, he thanks you, and goes on, and you are free to do so as well. But, if you hang out for a moment, you see that his efforts work, and the snowmen frighten off the intruders. Then if you hang out a bit longer, the next in the series of events happen, and you end up fighting a mini-horde of Grawl.
There’s a lot going on out there. Sometimes it just takes a bit of patience and observation to see if the little event you just did leads to another, and so forth. The big difference is that you’re not going to see the big green/red/yellow/blue quest indicators over their heads.
The only real quest-type thing I would like to see is if, after you’ve done all your PS chapters, that some of the unused NPCs might have additional things for you to do. I think it would be cool for one to run up to you and say, “Hey, You’re the one who helped kill a dragon, right? Maybe you can help me with (insert quest here.)”
No one has answered the real question: why is braham so useless that he can’t handle a tiny wittle broken leg?
His broken leg symbolizes his broken childhood stemming from his mother, Eir’s, abandonment. Rox is there to heal those deep psychological wounds by tending to his leg and maybe snuggling him.
Cant wait for the Braham and Rox kiss next. MmmMm.
Or would it be face licking? Not sure how this Charr stuff works.
the whole thing was disappointing to me simply because lord faren was not involved. we all know braham’s got nothing on lord faren.

Lol @ all the people thinking I was being sarcastic. Can a person not genuinely be happy and enthused about something? I may have been a bit over the top in the initial post, but that was right after I had just completed it all. It’s sad that I almost feel like I have to apologize for liking something in this game, since apparently hating everything about anything is the status quo now. I adored every bit of the conclusion & just wanted to share my appraisal and respect, since the devs do not get as much as they deserve.
We all differentiate in the creative process, so of course not every single person will be pleased with every thing that they create for us. But to keep things on topic I was just so enthralled in that final hour, and not even due to the content alone but due to the technical aspects of it as well (the cutscene animations, the music, the fight mechanics, etc.) It was all very impressive and something fresh that we haven’t seen before during the course of this past year, and it was executed very well. That is all.
(edited by iStoked.4018)
after 2 days spent on it I’m already done with it.
Better question is, how many hrs did you spend getting all the achievements? Anything over 10 hrs would be a lot of content for the average player to consume in 2 weeks.
Honestly I prefer the whole Dynamic Event system over your standard quest system any day. One thing I absolutely hated about Guild Wars was having a mile long list of quests that I really didn’t want to do and had nothing to do with what I wanted for my character. In the end I cleared the whole list and just ran around. The system in GW2 is far more to my preference. If I want, I can participate, if I don’t, I can walk away.

Killing of a character is such a cheap and cliché way to create artificial drama that I’m glad anet didn’t go down that path. Hate when stories do that just to be dark and gritty.
Exactly. So many things just kill characters for no point. Personal Story did it, but when they did it it was to show “Hey, this is a major war against undead legions. Not everybody makes it home.” And when it happened, it was well done.
Majory dying in the drill wouldn’t just been meh. Also the fact Rox is a ranger, and rangers naturally are survivors. They know medicine and field healing. Rox stabilizing Marjory makes perfect sense, especially if she wasn’t hurt as kittenhe looked.
•Taimi, I would have had her be a healthy little arsuran child up until Escape from Lion’s Arch. During that update I would have had her talk Braham into letting her come into the city to “study” the drill. When Braham turns his attention from her for one second, a piece of debris falls on her, crushing her legs. Braham’s guilt and Taimi having to learn to live with her condition would have been excellent character building opportunities.
•Jory and Kas, Jory getting knocked back and possibly killed while Kas runs in to avenge her was wonderful. However, I would have had Kas take a killing blow for the player character and Jory wake, permanently scarred, and call her name right as she is hit and killed. This actually sounds amazing…
No, it sounds like a typical “look how grimdark we can be” gratuitous dramafest which young people routinely mistake for good writing. Makes me glad Anet’s writers are adults, not emo teenagers who are obsessed with misery and death.
Also you know, the fact Taimi is 13 years old. Braham would basically get smacked around HARD for letting her into the battlefield. When Logan stumbled across her at the Marionette, he instantly took her to LA and off the warzone. ALL of the people involved wouldn’t let her get close to LA because of the Miasma and the fact Scarlet’s people were slaughtering ANYBODY they could find.
Even if she wasn’t disabled and was perfectly healthy, her being in LA would be kittened. Moreos if her legs go crushed and she was forced to live with it.

I didn’t know GW2 was dead. When did that happen, and why do I keep getting tossed into overflow?
I personally think it makes sense to release LS themed items in the gem shop. I can’t be the only one.
Some minis and an eye patch? How do these hurt the game or cause you disinterest?
Is it the finisher?
Or, perhaps, do you dislike the weapon skins that encourage people to buy Black Lion keys?

No, I love the big group. The 5 man with one snotty idiot that ruins the whole thing for everyone, I can and will live without. I left WoW for that very reason. It’s bread and butter was the holy 5 man, boring. I came here for the open dynamic world. And in the last LW we got it in spades. This new one is pretty good too. I enjoy it almost as much as the Escape but Escape was my favorite so far.
It’s a relationship between 2 people. Should it matter whatever the sexes of the 2 are? Claiming to not be homophobic when making a homophobic point does not absolve the OP from being homophobic.
Race used to matter to people when it comes to relationships. Do you think it’s acceptable to question the race of 2 people in a relationship today?
I think this is completely hilarious, you sound like the old president, with his line ‘’Either you are with us or against us’’. The OP simply expressed his dislikes about the UNEQUALITY of the situation, he points out that the two stated couples are in the spotlight while traditional couples are under the radar.
But what is even more hilarious is the amount of hypocrites (I’m not claiming that you are, but I know there are plenty.) that will gladly support these homosexual couples for the sole reason that they are both female only. However if a male only couple would be introduced… these hypocrites would FLIP THEIR kitten in rage at Anet.
I demand a cute little old gay male couple that razzes each other about home decor.
Companion of Starlight Honeybuns.
You stole me, and I stole you.
The kiss was completely unnecessary and pushed. A hug would have been perfect for that situation.
“Oh hey, person I’ve grown to love over time, in small ways at first, but now truly and deeply, who just rushed in to capture the person responsible for destroying a great city and was knocked out, who I thought was dead, taken from me suddenly, who now has just woken up in my arms…
Hug time! Glad you’re still with me, pal!"

To be honest, I think personally my biggest problem is Braham – acting as ANet proxy – saying “we don’t want to know more”, as in, “we don’t have all the answers to give you so go away please”. I was like, the hell I don’t! I’ve been waiting for Scarlet to spill the beans for ages, but then Leroy Marjory and Ham-Boy here just go RAAAAARGH and I’m standing there fiddling with my gear. Great.
Really? I’d say Braham was acting as the fanbase proxy. This forum especially was rife with complaining about people claiming they don’t care about Scarlet or what she thinks she’s doing or why she’s doing it and that she should just die and go away now please.
Well, we got what we claimed we wanted.
Speak for yourself please, I would have liked to know her reasons. I hope Anet will somehow give us that information (either another diary, or a hologram that explains her actions that she recorded during a moment of sanity, or anything).
During the past few LS updates I got quite invested in Scarlet’s story. Lots of questions have been asked, some have been answered but a lot remain. I would love to know why she did it and what went through her mind while she did it.
Next time tell Marjory Delaqua to approach a criminal with her Death Shroud on.
I don’t like to see ANY romance in MAIN story plot.
I’ve seen people say this kind of thing.
granted, they've all been boys under the age of 14... But to each their own.I enjoy love stories a lot. They make me feel squishy inside. I’m glad to see them in a game I love.
When I said that it’s generally the ladies who enjoy romance subplots more than gents, I was warned about sexism. So be careful!
I get that, but honestly… Literature and storytelling has romance. The only people I’ve met (apart from Knight, now) who are openly disgusted or against these things being incorporated into a story generally fit that demographic. And also, that’s why I put it blacked out.
You didn’t met a lot of hardcore gamers, didn’t you? We’ve seen too much things.
I didn’t think hardcore gamers cared about the story at all, tbh.
I was right, you didn’t.
So you’re saying that hardcore, say, dungeon runners, care about the dungeon cut scenes? They actively role play?
I didn’t talk about mmo-manchkins, i told about gamers who play almost every singleplayer game and mmorpg.
Sorry I thought we were talking about this game right here on the forum for that specific game.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
Hey OP, since we all feel the need to elaborate our sexual orientation beforehand, I’m gonna do the same, I’m a hetero female in a relationship for a long time now and I have no problems investing myself in homosexual relationship like Kasmeer and Majory because they reflect real life and real world feelings of how two people act around their loved ones, especially in dire situations.
That being said I don’t need a hetero romance in the spotlight to relate myself to – i see them as people foremost, and characters. As such I tend to avoid using words “lesbian” or “gay”, but I know a kittenton of people wouldn’t agree with me.
Anyway that’s how I see it. Try to give it a shot :P
My favorite hetero relationship in the game is the bandit man and the seraph woman, hidden away. I don’t remember where it is, but when I found it I sat with them for a while.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
@Jaken:
Never felt that way to me, sorry. To me it seemed like they were trying to sweep Scarlet herself under the rug, overshadowing her with Kas’ and Jory’s romance, Rox and Braham, Taimi’s person, the LA destruction and now Mordremoth.
Which, to be fair, is exactly what we asked them to do, in countless pages of countless threads.
Are you saying there was grinding in GW1? Ack!
I have some weapons in my HoM, but it doesn’t bother me if they appear here in GW2. Seems lots of people have been asking for skins from GW1. So, I guess ArenaNet listened to the playerbase. =)

And i still want to know what nasty stuff Caithe did !
Your keyboard has tons of buttons on it and it is already paid for. Just a thought.
But your left hand only has 5 fingers.
May I suggest that, if deciding to do so, the chosen charity project is an international one?
There are players outside the US who might like to donate, too. I think it is naturaly understandable that they will be more willing to contribute to a world wide charity (or one that is closer to them) then a national one, at least if it is not in their own nation – which may be too much to do from an organizational aspect.
Exactly. Actually, you showed me the core of what bugged me with the OP’s request. People with MS or another condition, they don’t want your pity. Let me repeat this: they do not want your pity. Christina is not her cane, and Ceridwen’s grandmother is not her wheelchair. Let’s assume for a second that the OP’s request was granted. What would happen? Someone pops out a mini Taimi, and immediately shows that he or she has condition that is “worth” Anet’s pity. “Hey, look, it’s a mini Taimi. Awwwww, it must be someone with a condition then.” Do you really think that anyone would want that? They don’t want to stand out because of their condition or handicap. They get that enough in real life, and it ain’t pretty. They want to stand out because who they are and what they do, just like anyone else.
If anything, Taimi should be a symbol of strength. Not pity.
If you want to fully understand this concept, there is an absolutely brilliant film out there called The Intouchables. A major French production of 2011, nominated by almost every major film festival in the world (including the golden globes) as “best foreign film”, some of which it won. It’s often hilarious and serious at the same time, and zooms in on the core of this discussion like no other film I know does.
I think you’re misunderstanding what the OP and other posters here are proposing. No one is feeling bad for anyone. No one is looking at anyone thinking “Aw, how sad, give them a gift” That’s nonsense. No one with any sense would think about another person that way.
The only reason there should be a mini (or pauldrons or broomstick like gimmick item or tonic) is for charity. Anyone can buy it, it is not linked to having a condition.
And the only reason Christina should be given hers for free (or a slightly different one) is as a form of thank you from everyone for inspiring us and raising awareness.
People don’t want to give her a gift because she has a condition, they want to recognise the contribution she made by sharing her story with us and thank her for it.
But because there are people who may view things the way you describe (and I don’t mean that in a bad way…. it just is what it is), it may indeed be better to just have one item and send her one for free. But imo that doesn’t make the gift misguided, just people’s perception.
I see nothing wrong with marking an individual’s contribution in that way. Remember the “Sanctum of Rall”?
That said, I don’t think it matters even if we only get a charity mini available for purchase, so as to not upset anyone, it’s pretty obvious that Christina will be receiving enough copies as personal gifts to last for a while
P.S. Someone needs to save Danicia from all those critters…

This is my second ’great game ’thread. Make no mistake; I absolutely LOVE Guild Wars 2. It is without equal. It beats to a bloody pulp every other MMO out there. I only started playing about three weeks ago and in that time I have become addicted. My wife, friends and even my brother (who has always hated MMOs up until now) are now playing and they love it too.
I started with a human warrior but decided on a whim to try out an Asura Thief. Amazing. It is so much fun. The dev(s) who created Rata Sum should get a digital art award or something. The whole Asura territory is beautiful!
Once again, I love the dynamic event system. No more stupid fetch-quests that exist without meaning or purpose. I actually feel like I am changing the world with every event! The story is awesome too. I love the way the Asura ‘power-station’ arc ties into the narratives of the other zones.
Anyway, I have posted another video of my me and my wife playing the game together. Thought I’d include it in this post
Once again…magnificent game!
