I think that Lion’s Arch, for the next little while (months… years?) will be inhabited by whatever Scarlet’s drill unearth, and its minions. LA will be completely unsafe for a long time.

At least I hope so.

Disabling backpack view for all characters

Well then you might as well add an option to disable entire character models as well, because a Norn or Charr with no backpack at all is more distracting to me than the wing backpacks. Or people with Legendary GSs swinging them around, the trails distract me.

What I think should take more priority would be allowing backpacks to be seen in the Character Select screen. Why the heck is that not allowed? Sometimes I like to admire my handiwork, and that includes backpack choice as well!

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

Thank you all for your comments. You have convinced me to choose Sylvari. After spending a few hours with this race I fell in love.
Sylvari are so openminded. They seems to be so carefree but in fact they face many problems.

I love Sylvari personal strory. Brew it is one of the most polished. I love their voice. The accent is wonderful. It’s a huge relief after playing female norn with her deep voice. I really like the fact that the Sylvari storyline make me feel appreciation by other characters. Throughout its history, I overcame Bercilak and felt my victory during the dialogues with the characters.

I really like the Sylvari sexuality. They have no problem with that if they love a man or a woman. It is rarely seen in RPGs. Remind me Asari from Mass Effect.

I personally believe that when it comes to the appearance of the Sylvari are the most gain in the night. Their design is amazing. I love their dreadlocks. Such a unique appearance lacked in other breeds. Now I have to make room for the other Sylvari. I think i will reroll most of my characters to Sylvari. I wish I had tried this before.

Thank you all again!

The plant-like dragon seen in the Sylvari personal story, is part of the the story line to fight Zhaitan. The Pale Tree explains that the vision of this plant-like dragon is a vision of Zhaitan. And indeed, it does look a lot like Tequatl.

There is no need to retro-actively assume that a creature from the Personal Story is now suddenly tied to the Living Story.

I’d like to propose that a vendor appear after the LS finishes. He/she will accept all remaining LS items that were never used in trade for some items of little consequence. I have partial stacks of Marionette keys, I’m sure others have Tricolor key pieces, and potentially a half dozen other items from throughout the year+ LS that either never got turned in or are the unusable remains of partial stacks.

Don’t let the vendor sell anything that can’t be acquired elsewhere, but give us something to do with all these extras taking up bank space. The vendor would be proof that we’re allowed to finally “trash” stuff without repercussions.

Before the invasion, I typically AVOIDED LA – loading times were much longer in and out of there due to the generally higher-than-average player counts, and things were much more spread out than in the capital cities (both Rata Sum, Divinity, and the Norn capital city have more convenient access to bank/TP/crafting provided you use the (free) waypoints).

I for one hope that LA will remain ruined/hostile territory – please make it a permanent Lvl 80 zone filled with danger and excitement. There’s a lot you could do with it in its current state or as a logical conclusion to some of the living story breadcrumbs that have been dropping… Just my 2 coppers.

Ignoring the fact that Marionette and LA are zergs in which you follow around a commander for phat lewt, it’s clear that we have different expectations.
Story instances where I’m forced to listen to NPC’s I don’t care about talk is not what I’d consider content.

Molten/Atherblade dungeon on the otherhand were decently challenging content.

NPC’s standing around talking means nothing, nameless NPC’s dying means nothing. Who cares if Nameless Vigil soldier A remarks to Nameless Vigil soldier B about how many people are being killed. If the people actually got massacred in front of the PC I would probably take it more seriously.

You have to make a distinction between how content is designed to be played and how people actually end up playing it.

Marionette really gave you no choice, sure you could zerg in the lanes but the lanes themselves were essentially inconsequential. the actual marionette fight was all about the champions encounters you faced after teleporting in. You simply couldnt zerg those even if you wanted to. It is important to note those fights are the core of the marionette encounter. Dealing with those champions on a timely manner was the meat of that content. The corridors were merely waiting rooms with mobs to kill rather then magazines to read.

LA on the hand much like invasions is content designed to fail if people zerg. Miasma events scale to unbeatable levels after certain group sizes. The main aim of the event is also to save villagers and it will be nearly impossible to achieve that if people dont spread out. That people rather zerg then win is not something Arenanet can really do about. As long as the game doesnt introduce mob tagging (and lets hope really really hard it never comes to that) people will continue to zerg cause in their mind large numbers means easier I guess even though the little pop up says event failed. In anycase content is definitely designed in an anti-zerg way its just unsuccessful at that because really no matter how many times people say to hate the zerg if there is just any way in which they can zerg they will no matter how much Arenanet may try to make the alternative seem better.

Well you may not care about about NPC dialog, you may not care about which NPC lives or dies and thats fine but plenty of other people cared to the point of critizising Arenanet for putting such lore outside of the game in their short stories and how these should really be presented ingame. Like Morrigan pointed out this is an example of how feedback to Arenanet resulted into a change. I am sorry its a change thats not meaningful to you, ofcourse no change can ever be meaningful to everyone but it is meaningful to players who appreciate lore in their game.

Brilliant. I absolutely love the dynamic event system and how you can actually affect the development of the world!

I linked up with a friend of mine and we quested together. GW2 has a great loot system and the missions are so much fun when playing with someone else. I have uploaded a fifteen minute ’Let’s Play’ highlights video to YouTube recently, all taken from a single day of playing…just thought I’d share.

Anyway, to the devs…you guys and girls are inspired!

A missed opportunity for Personality Types

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Twyll Blackleaf.9641

Twyll Blackleaf.9641

Normally, I find ANet’s small-scale writing— incidental NPC dialogues, character conversations with NPCs, etc.— to be really high-quality, one of the things I like most about the game; and everyone I’ve spoken with about the game agrees. That’s why I found it really odd that the character’s options for responding to the refugees from Lion’s Arch, a place many players have become very emotionally connected to, are really very cold and distant in many cases. Kae Mayumi says, “I spent six years building my store. It’s all gone;” and my only available reaction is, “Good-bye.”

Also, many people have noted that the Charm/Dignity/Ferocity personality types are highly underused. So why not use them to provide different ways of responding to the poor miserable NPCs in the various refugee camps? Complimenting their resilience with Charm, inspiring them with a bit of Dignified motivational speechifying, using Ferocity to appeal to their fighting spirit?

I understand that in a huge Living Story event like this, there’s a lot of dialogue to write and little things like this are not the highest priority, but it’s also the little things that make a Living Story feel real, complete, that really integrate it with the existing fabric of the game’s narrative. Having the ability to respond more sympathetically to the refugees, especially if that ties in with your character’s personality type, would be a relatively small effort with huge returns in adding cohesiveness and immersion.

Heck, enough players are emotionally involved in the fate of these characters (note the thread about Raisin-Face, and I’ve personally spoken to many people who are interested in the fate of Trader Jikk) that it might serve as an interesting base for the creation of a Collaborative Writing thing similar to the Collaborative Development project but on a much smaller and more concrete scale. If there’s any way for players to contribute along these lines in a way that doesn’t create problems with copyright and suchlike unpleasant realities, I’d put all my Charm and Ferocity (and what little Dignity I can muster) into pulling it off, because I’d hate to see one of the facets of this game that so many people love suffer due to an event that’s so ambitious in other ways.

I worked for so many exclusive items, I have so many of them in the bank, that I don’t care if other people have a shot at all of them. It’s hard to explain. I like variety and I like seeing variety. I have more variety in my bank than I have characters. I like seeing other people dressed in all the different things. Think how often do you see the original Sab blue backpack? How about something newer? The crystal wing backpack? How about the backpacks from Southsun cove?
People tend to be geared up in the latest thing. The latest backpack. The latest weapon. The more of the early stuff they’ll be able to get, the more of the early stuff will be worn and the less everyone will look like they’re a copy of each other.

Deal with it.

Complaint #1: “Lions arch was the most convenient place to do anything, and now its gone and i have to pay $12.50 (USD) for the same thing.”

LA was NOT the most convenient place to do business. There were much faster locations for bank – crafting – Trading post services. Lions Arch was just popular. Popular doe not always mean the best. Lets use Justin Beiber as an example.

Complaint #2: “Ermergherd, how could you do this Anet? how could you make us pay real money for stuff. How could you have such a cash grab like this. ermergherd.”

ok, lets not forget people. Video Game development costs money. Arena Net, NCsoft and any other studio / publisher on the planet are a business.
I like to think that ArenaNet prefer to do cool things rather than cashgrab. But the world of business does not agree with my feelings.
you CAN NOT blame ArenaNet for trying to make money. its YOUR choice to buy into these things. nobody is forcing you.

Complaint #3: “what? now i have nowhere to do my craafting!”

Every main city, and even a lot of explorable areas have crafting stations.

Claypool in Queensdale has a full set of crafting stations.

Ebonhawke in Fields Of Ruin has literally everything, and its all MUCH closer together than it was in lions arch.

what if you don’t need crafting? In mount malestrom, in Soobetme (just west of the mountain) , at the FireBreak Fort Waypoint, there is a bank and a TP so close together, you can stand between them and right click both of them. not to mention, loading into MM is a LOT faster than loading into LA.

I bought the permanent airship pass. Its an item you have in your inventory and can right click it from anywhere, and it takes you straight to the airship.
This is a lot more convenient than the Royal Terrace. (which i didn’t buy, because i didn’t see the point.)

TLDR. Don’t buy it if you don’t want it. Dont complain. You have nothing to complain about.

Reward: farming vs saving citizens

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Walhalla.5473

Walhalla.5473

The point is bags contain crap loot but you get better loot from saving a certain amount of citizens.

300, 600, 1000, and 1500 citizens gives rewards. The best loot is at 1000 and 1500 which offer a chance to get past rewards from any update.

Citizens > bag farming.

It isn’t event bag farming that’s the main problem. It’s champ bag farming.
This event has devolved into a glorified champ train.

And people don’t recognize that they make it harder for themselfes if they go into the zerg and try to farm champ bags. The way the events scale, it’s more like " In Lion’s Arch mobs farm you". All they get are lvl 84 Elite mobs massacrating players, with one shot aoes, one shot hammer attacks, hundreds of fire fields, tornados, and protection fields, and a chance for champ spawns. Also the mobs take way longer to kill in a zerg than in 5 or 10 man groups. It isn’t worth it to scale the events so high, but people don’t understand this, because they are used to do this in the Scarlet Invasions or the Tower of Nightmares, and there is also the champ train in Queensdale.

I prefer to think that they’re trying to get people’s belongings back to the rightful owners, and that the rewards are incentive for us to collect and bring them in. It might be nice if we’d do this for free out of the goodness of our hearts, but risking life and limb for mere things is a bit of a tall order, given the warzone you have to go into to retrieve them.

If it eases your conscience, imagine your hero saying, “Just trying to help,” while the Lionguard says, “NO, PLEASE, WE INSIST. HERE, TAKE THESE…LEMONS IN BULK? YOU DESERVE THEM.”

I only get Standard Citizen's Rescue Bags

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

According to the wiki there are 5 tiers of Rescue Bags. I’ve gotten up to Tier 4 in terms of completion (1000 citizens saved pre hotfix patch) and I only ever get the Standard Citizen’s Bags. Is this a bug?

If not, some people find that getting one or two extra Standard Citizens Bags isn’t really worth going for the extra tier. People would be more incentivized to strive for higher tiers if we got better bags, assuming that higher tier bags give more than just an heirloom and more blades/belongings.

Well tier 5 just gave more heirlooms, blades, belongings and some dragonite.

Yeah, this doesn’t seem right.

Nope, those are exactly what you should have been expecting. Are you new to this game?

Since I left out the numbers it was something like 5 heirlooms, 10 blades, 10 belongings and 12 dragonite, 4 salvage items. Got a glacial core from salvaging those 4 and a bunch of mithril ore.

A few got stuff like celestial recipe sheets or the experimental chili recipe. One of the tiers gave me 5 dragon coffers the other day. I think that was a tier 3. I am not sure who would be desperate enough for those to try to get to tier 5.

The reward systems in other parts of the game though not perfect, seem fine to me. To each his own.

People want to get to tier 5 because actually getting it is interesting and requires a bit more coordination than usual, and right now it doesn’t seem worth it for most people. Because there are rewards documented on the wiki that most people haven’t ever seen leads me to believe that there’s a bug in the rewards.
