Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Southsun City, sounds kinda cool actually.
Take me down to the Southsun City
Where the Karka are mean
And the girls are pretty
Oh, won’t you please take me home? Yeah, yeah!
Sorrow’s Furnace
Kabal of the Righteous [Seed]
…southwest of Lion’s Arch
Sunny beaches.
Already gated.
Minor problem with the fauna, but a few exterminators can clear that up.
Seems like a nice place to set up a new city…
The thing to remember is that Anet has stated that they fully intend to deliver the same amount of content that would come in an expansion, they’re just not sure that the standard expansion format is the way they’re going to do it. They don’t want to put out a new box of the game.
Personally I think they’re going to use the living story to deliver the content in chunks. Hopefully the features build after this LS season wraps up will be the start of the real new content.
We voted her into office, and now will be her time to shine! We know Ellen was a dedicated and skilled Lionguard agent, and her training hasn’t simply vanished in the few months she’s been sitting in a councilor’s chair. Kiel shall rise, to lead the people of her city to safety! She will help us stop the invasion, as only a hero can!
Plus, she has a giant holographic Ellen Kiel ready to destroy the Marionette! It’ll be like Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla!
Besides, what’s Gnashblade gonna do? Bribe the Krait? Neckstab the Marionette? Those are pretty much his only skills. Fleabag is useless.

I agree. ALL steps of the personal story should be soloable. It’s kind of ridiculous that the major final step is in a group dungeon. Make a solo version please.
Why do people think LA will be rebuilt?

Karka as next playable race :P
they wont increase it. It will go full ape kitten crazy around here if they raise lvl cap beyond 80.
Tonight, I will finally get to play my beloved GW2. After the whole week of missing my gaming computer and spending my free time on reading the forums, I got hyped for this game almost as much as before beta tests and the launch.
If some of you are tired of little issues like overflows, balance, clipping, precursors, whatever else, then try to give yourself a break and you will find you would gladly forget about these issues if you were able to do some open world events, JPs, dungeons, alt leveling, etc.
I have been in Divinity reach since the 1st day of the game lol.
LA has way over load ppl.
I like this move by anet though and i hope it will stay for a long time.
better get ppl moving back to their race’s main city.
I honestly think that there should be MORE exclusive items that arent tradable in the game. Players should be encouraged to look unique and making rare items that only select people have is a step towards this. I currently wear my Fervid Censer with pride because its a reminder of a living story patch I enjoyed, its relatively rare (compared to other backpieces anyway) and fits with my overall theme of my character.
Id even go a step further and say that people who have proven themselves in certain disciplines should have unique skins. Similar to the achievement system but with things like jumping puzzle completion, dungeon master, certain PvP and WvW ranks…. and more harder content when (IF!) its released.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
Umm. Final Rest is unique to the Shadow Behemoth….
I remember in another game the final story quest was also in a dungeon. While it sounded like a great idea at first, in the end it had the exact same issues as Arah story mode in GW2, so the devs in that game created 2 versions of the same dungeon. One was relatively easy, even soloable, and the other was a LOT harder, hardest in the game.
This allowed the devs to offer appropriate content to two different types of players:
A) Those who want to finish the story can do so without much trouble. Even if the final boss looks very easy (they can keep the current Zhaitan fight there)
B) Make the hard mode final boss challenging enough so when you kill it you can say “Yes that WAS hard and exciting”.
The final boss of a big mmo, at the end of a long storyline, shouldn’t be easier than the first little boss you fought when you were level 1. By spliting the dungeon in 2 versions, BOTH with Zhaitan as the last boss you can have the best of both worlds.
It seems that living story content is changing. looking at the last few chapters, the content is kept alive longer. The origin of madness was time consuming (bout 2 hours farming probes + max 5 marionette events (if they all fail with only 1-2 chains broken). But after the introduction (10 minutes) you can do one marionette event (20 minutes) and off course disable a single probe.
So you miss the end reward only, but you see most off the story. The only thing your missing is the diary, but that content is also in the much shorter edge of the mist map. So you can experience the full story in bout 30 minutes.
Edge of the mist.
This one is much shorter storywise.
1: instance in LA
2: instance in DR
3: visit the edge of the mist for 1 dialogue and optional one short task to travel to the senter of the new map to get an item
4: visit the instance in DR again and do some riddle solving.
In total this one doesn’t take more then 60 minutes to fully complete.
I think that this is the answer that you seek. You shouldnt need to invest 5-6 hours to be able to follow the story and you should get some rewards. Off course for the hardcore players the living story should also be challenging. but the story itself should be short enough for someone like you.
So my advise is to give the living story a new change. a lot has changed.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Even back when it was the first time I got that far with my story, where you could still find people for it, it still put me off. Why did I suddenly need 4 other people, when all the rest of the PS is done alone it really bothered me.
Now although I have completed everything up untill that point on all my alts, I have not completed that and don’t see it happening.
The final step of the personal story needs a rework.
I have seven toons and I play them all roughly the same amount. I have no alts in the traditional sense of the term.
People who think LA needs to stay because it is important to have one all important HUB city that does everything in a MMORPG are dead wrong. Several games have done without it by introducing features that made other cities just as relevant as a HUB could be. A hub city is just a convenience nothing more and one that can be replicated elsewhere.
We have a chance in GW2 for a truly changing world that can lose even a major city and keep going. That is incredible and a great step forward for MMORPG’s everywhere because most MMO worlds never change because people are so vitriol about it. They want the status quo to never change so they can be on top, they know the layouts, they think their current build is the greatest ever. What reason it often holds games back because of how afraid selfish and vocal they can it. If they truly destroy LA you need to think about how many possibilities that opens up for the game in general. It means anything could happen now including other major city invasions that change their layouts. That is just awesome!
Besides the mystic forge and the order stories everything else can be done in another major city. They’ve already said one of the greatest mistakes they made was tying the personal story so much into Orr that changing it would ruin it for others new to the game. It made it hard to make changes but they said they had a possible solution. Using the fractals they can have players go in there and see that story as if they already did it in the past themselves. While the world at large continues to change at large. The consortium built that portal pretty sure they can make another for us to use somewhere else and it would no different going to it then any other dungeon.
Another change would be linking all the major cities map chats together. So you’d miss nothing of the social aspect. Other MMORPG’s like WoW have done this and it works great and the population gets to support or stay in the city they want rather then always the hub because they worry they might miss something.
WvW portals in the Vigil keep make perfect sense for the aesthetics of having portals of war. Plus you can queue up from anywhere already anyways. So that really isn’t a big loss.
Major holiday features could be made for every major city instead of just LA or the Vigil Keep could bring a new take to it. Such as the way we fight off the Bloody Prince or Mad King and they wouldn’t have to worry about justifying the damage repairs to something like the Lion statue. You wanted holidays to change and evolve well here is your chance to get that. Don’t blow it by asking for things like LA to never change.
Once again you think only LA has history with GW1 but many of the cities today are built on history from GW1. The searing, refugees, the outpost that became an Asura capital, a tree grown with great care by two different races on a mass grave, the great migration of the Norn where the spirits aided them and some of them DIED. This history is waiting to be tapped and moving the focus to these side cities can let that happen.
The books are an evolving story as well and in a series cities get destroyed and people die. The story can’t grow without these things happening. Just because something was used in a book doesn’t mean it gets a get out of jail free card on any changes.
This can be a fun ride even if it is tied to (gag) Scarlet. Let it happen.
Vigil keep makes the most sense lore and gameplay wise.
How, in either sense? It is a military keep, and while they may be able to support some refugee population outside the walls, it is in no way adequate to assume the role of a major player hub and trade center.
Gameplay? Go look how big it is, and get back to me. Unless the plan to put all of this in Gendarran zone/external keep.
It makes no sense at all. It is just “convenient”.
Well it’s the best according to proximity. There are no other large towns nearby. It also makes sense lore wise considering that the vigil is a military force and can help police and maintain order from all the displaced refugees. I doubt the Norn would be happy with all these criminals or ex-pirates invading their hometown.
And yes, Vigil’s keep is too small. But like any refugee camp, they don’t necessarily occupy the building – they occupy the land around it.
Expect the area around Vigil’s keep to truly look like a refugee camp. They could have makeshift crafting spots and vendors selling their wares. They can put all the misplaced NPC’s all around “BY OGDEN’S HAMMER, WHERES MY SAVINGS?!” while keeping all the portals inside the keep.
The Rebuilding of LA (Speculation Thread)

There should be no rebuilding of the place. There should be a big hole which scarlet has made with her drill, into which you can delve to find the dwarves and destroyers.
Destroyers would crawl out of the hole, making the area around it hostile and impossible to live in.
There may be another city built and it may be called Lion’s Arch, but not there and not now.
Why is everyone so eager to play a race mirrored after chickens? ;S
Good question….
I hope they do it like the Tower…when you first log in to the zone, you ge thrown to an instance, but subsequent log-ins would be live…
It’s a Tybalt mission, how could it not be enjoyable?
You know… this could open up real estate in L.A. for guild halls and/or housing…
I don’t play WvW and have not really found the content lacking in any way shape or form.
How exactly do people come up with these ideas? That this Living Story chapter is constructed to remove any association between GW1 and GW2?
Like seriously..if you hate this game that much, at least say so. Don’t try to hide it behind some BS idea like this.
This is a terrible idea.
The problem is with ArenaNet’s host, not their code. Posting lots of bug reports just inundates their support team and keeps them from being able to handle problems that are fixable.
Please. Please. Do not do this.

Been playing exclusively humans since beta.
The new one looks much better in my eyes. Less helpless-little-girl and more of someone who is actually trying to make an effort to kick some kittens.

I kind of think Scarlet discovered the Sylvari all have a sort of “Order 66” programed into them. They aren’t Dragon agents… until Mordremoth throws the switch.
Thing is Scarlet is a born rebel – its the very essence of her beings. So when she went into Omadd’s box and the switch tried to eat her from the inside, she did what she always does, what she must do: she rebelled. And now she’s trying to hunt down the power at the other end of the puppet strings and KILL IT, because that’s how Scarlet rolls. Obviously you just kill an Elder Dragon when you want the voices in your head to stop… No big deal, right?
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
