Well… to be honest pvp type gameplay is the reason why i quit\walked away from a lot of games. If you dont play like others do..like lets say run VERY specific builds or use very specific tactics to tackle certain things you are automatically the noob or the looser. Here in gw2 pve i already get enough laughs\hate for playing my beloved engineer that i pretty much equipped to heal, remove conditions, revive allies and condi damage the enemie as much as the little attack damage i got allows me. It makes to me just more fun to ensure that nobody arround me got even a pixel of their health bars missing or a single negative condition showing. What i pretty much learned fast in playing together with veterans is if you dont dps like crazy or can keep speed wise up with a zerk you are worthless so im usually pretty well off on my own and have my peace in pve doing my thing…mostly just running in the starter areas and keeping the new players alive so that they can do their heart quests or down their champs. That makes me happy and is my fun. Hell.. even solo\duo some dungeons together with a friend without much issues since a while. Alone the idea to go wvw\pvp makes me cringe cause i know what will come… verbal abuse and requirement to absolute perfection if you wanna avoid it. Thing is.. i cant stand the first and im not capable to do the latter.

I just leveled my Engi and while I am not healing and stuff like that I am loving it. Engi is very strong roamer in WvW. Sounds like you do not run zerker gear because what good would that do you. I was exactly like you for about half a year ago. Just got into wvw for the map completion and nothing else.
Then I thought well Im here now might aswell help out the commander. And then hooked, almost every day now. And no I am not good, if I can do it so can you.

Indeed my gear is not zerker gear.. i run stuff that gives me a kittenload of hp and healing power cause like i said thats what i do. The one time i did wvw to stop a friend from pestering me for hours on end. First “battle” i survived due to my massive health pool and my probably overkill self heal and experience in dodging stuff bosses throw at you in pve. Took about 2 mins before the warrior sorta went “kitten it” and ran off…to return a minute later with a zerk. Saw the movie 300? If you did i refer you to the death of leonidas just followed by rave sized corpse dance. Right away followed whispered caps lock insults of one of the commanders cause i couldnt keep the supply line save, yea was clearly my fault… totally forgot that i was a fusion of hulk and a black friday shopper. Pretty much said to my self “screw that kitten” and went then to a fortress my colour held and thought that i might aswell build stuff for my team as support. Repaired the siege stuff that was broken, errected more weapons on the walls, cleared the battering ram that still knocked on the door and made 4 golems i payed from my own pocket to prepare the fortress for the obvios 2nd weave. A “useless noob engi, why the kitten you are even in wvw?” was a fitting punishment for my initiative even if the golems wrecked the incoming 2nd weave without no issues. Well.. after that i clearly was in the best mood ever and decided to leave. As i opened the map i noticed that many smaller points nearby are taken by the enemie…so i thought might aswell walk back to the starting point and take the points on the way what went flawless.. even took down a thief somehow…prolly just a miracle. Shortly before i reached the exit i got a final “really.. gtfo you are a disgrace” as goodbye and that pretty much left a bitter taste in my mouth. IF i can do it or not is out of question… but do i want to? Really no thanks…i hope you see where i come from now.

For the love of grenth please, hell I would be absolutely thrilled if they added a trader offered a spike for a stack.

Unless you don’t care about asc or are already done with crafting it, then you don’t quite the silly problem. You aren’t forced to craft ascended items but we are gonna give you ascended mats, they can’t be traded nor vendored. They are gonna be rewarded for everything you do as well as added into your loot table.

Kill world boss, do a dungeon, Jp, kill a champ – here have asc mat, asc mat asc mat and guess what asc mat.

Maybe can get a break roaming in wvw, ooooh a rare steel chest – asc mat

Sob…. Maybe some peace in opening containers – nope surprise mothertrucka !!!!!! Asc mat.

Yeah you can destroy them Which I’ve done with countless dragonite, empyeral, and cursed bloodstone. It’s funny, so easy to say just destroy it but ask for mere value for those that don’t care about asc and it’s…… Lol

I think it is good, pve players will have a chance to see how WvW/PvP players can get organized in large scale fight and how coordenation is important and it is fun.

…fun.. yea gonna be REALLY funny to get utterly destroyed by perfectly organised armies of pvp\wvw pros while most pve guys will be nothing more then targets on legs to them. Man specially i gonna LOVE getting used as soccer ball and teabag stand with my already to death nerfed, engineer while probably also getting a nice and vast collection of ways to call somebody a noob and other utterly charming taunts over the world chat to make it a bit less enjoyable as little bonus. Lets hope atleast a nice skin item or somewhat good loot is in for the time i get practially rented out as walking loot bag and laughing stock for guys who actually love this sort of gameplay and got experience in it to follow the storyline -_-. I do need to say though that i am happy for the wvw crowd to get a new toy to play with. Can only imagine how utterly boring it gotta be to be stuck to the same maps all the time. Though… why dont simply add the map and keep it LS free? Would had been the better choice in my opinion.

A couple of things; buying gems with ingame gold directly benefits NCsoft by raising the gold -> gems ratio and encouraging people to purchase gems. Even if you never spent a single penny on ingame gems, converting your gold to gems indirectly benefits NCsoft by providing further incentive for others to pay money for gems.

Every single pick that gets sold on the gemstore goes towards generating more revenue for NCsoft, regardless of whether you paid ingame currency or otherwise. Try to see the bigger picture, rather than from a personal, singular perspective only. When you exchange gold for gems, you are accepting indirect payment from another player who spent real currency on gems, which they exchanged for your gold.

I am not sure about you, but I wouldn’t consider such a mindless and unrewarding task as grinding the pitiful rewards found in this game worth my time for what would be the equivalent of less than $1 per hour, but of course that is your prerogative.

Secondly, the suggestions that people who don’t like the pick should just “buy it if you want it so much” are missing the point. I don’t want the pick. I don’t want it to exist, I don’t believe it should be a part of the game. I object to it due to the implications for the ingame economy and the hypocritical change of heart anet appear to have had regarding vertical progression.

I could buy this pick for every character in my vault if I chose to, and I could do that with real life currency or gems purchased with gold ingame. This, for me personally, is not a factor at all to do with personal wealth, ingame or otherwise.

I respect the right to have a differing opinion to mine, but perhaps even those of you who do would admit that the lack of response to a serious concern shared by many paying customers is more than a little disturbing. In fact it’s downright insulting. This leaves me with no choice but to withdraw any further financial support; I am positive I won’t be alone in that, which does not bode well for the future of this game.

This patch will bring back just the same hatred among each other back, that WvW Season 1 with its achievements brought to the game and people, which willingly sabotage their own world to the point, that your Server loses, or just doesn’t perform as good as it could, so that people.

WvW just isn’t made for PvE Achievements and PvE Story.
WvW should be about War between Worlds and nothing else.
There has PvE nothing to seach in between.

I’m just true and admit, I also sabotaged my Server just to get the Achievements, that I wanted/needed, because wouldn’t I have done it, then I wouldn’t have made all of the WvW Season 1 Achievements successfully and I will always do this again whenever needed, until Anet learns it that the recipe of success fro WvW comes fom many other things that should be improved for WvW and not by forcing PvE’er either into WvW or by luring them to WvW with lots of Achievements and Loot/Rewards into that Game Mode.

To me currently WvW is far away from feeling like real wars between worlds, because the game mode in my opinion shows so far only like 25% of the potential that it has.
The other 75% are features and mechanics, that could be improved, which are so far just unused that ANet should set on their top priorrities instead of wasting time and ressources on trying hard to merge PvE with PvP in a way, that nobody interests a slightest bit and that just polarizes both factions of players in a very bad way, that we see just a war of hatred and intolerance arise from it with a factor of playing together only, because something indirectly forces both sides to play together, not because both factions want to play together at all.

IMO, it’s definitely p2w. It would be fine if it’s only skin and effect but actually gaining more stuff is really bad design no matter the value of the item gained. Bad precedent.

So I say unto those venturing into the edge of the mists – come armed and come determined enough that when you fall, you get back up and you hunt out the one who felled you so that you can drive him or her from the mists and into the hands of Grenth himself.

The time to ignore us is over – you`re in our world now.

Except for the part where you can’t see anybody’s name, so hunting them out is pretty hard. Oh, and the zergs can make hunting pretty hard. Or other roamers.

I play WvW rarely. It’s not really my thing. I don’t have as much of a hang-up as others, but I’ll say this:

Taking a PvE player who does not enjoy PvP experiences and putting them into a PvP situation where the PvP players want to grief the PvE player as much as possible is a terrible idea.

I can only pray that I am wrong about this, but I fear that we are on the cusp of seeing the worst griefing that this game has seen since launch. The recipe for this is simple: limited-time objective + ability to kill other players who have no interest in fighting and just want to complete that objective = griefing on an unprecedented scale.

We’ve already seen this sort of thing happen with WvW jumping puzzles. The reason griefing-style play is not a more serious issue there is because there is no inherent time limit to completing that content – if griefers are camping the puzzle, simply come back later after they get bored and leave because there is nobody for them to kill. But what if the content/achievements are only available for a short time, as is the case with the living story? This funnels a constant stream of victims to the griefers, and removes the option to wait for them to go away.

Again, I really hope that some thought has gone into anti-griefing mechanisms for this release, but from what information is available so far I am very, very concerned.

I doubt the feedback won’t be a good one.
So far you received never any good feedback whenever you tried to lure PvErs into WvW with a bunch of Achievements and a tiny Story tidbits .

It always resulted only in a big ****storm that was basically guaranteed to happen due to all of the WvW Elitists getting annoyed by us PvEers/Achievement Hunters and vice versa.

Forcing two different kinds of players to play together, which like each other like the pestilence, is absolutely no good thing.
WvW players also do get massively annoyed by Living Story Mechanics in WvW, especially when they are just simply holding you up, like the last time when the nightmare LS was active and everywhere at the mercenary camps permanently poppped up those silly plants with their permanent hallucinations.

Such stuff doesn’t belong into WvW in the sight of really alot of players.
WvW’ers want to see, that this gameplay mode gets mechanically improved and not that it gets bloated up with content, that has nothing to do with WvW at all and is just put only there to revitalize the WvW community and to bring maybe new players to WvW by hoding them their mach wanted Achievement Carrot in front of their noses lurign them that way into WvW, exactly knowing, that there would be no other way than this one to bring more people into WvW, other then to somehow “force” PvE’ers and especially the Achievement Hunters into that Game Mode, if they want to stay compettitive in the Leaderboards and also don’t want to miss out the Meta Achievements.

I personally would much more prefer it to see that WvW gets in future improved with meaningful content, that fits to this Game Moder, other then always tryingto lure temporarely PvEers with Achievements and Story into the WvW Battlefields, where both sides will always just meet on each other only with hatred, wrath and intolerance from begin to the end of the patch’s content, so long until its over and everybody is happy, that new content is there so that the WvW’ers have their peace from the PvE’ers and the PvE’ers being happy, that the new content’t doesn’t force them to do literally PvP

You should have seen the reactions of Players within WvW Season 1, never seen before bigger ****storms and rants over each other in WvW before that, when there were those new WvW Achievements for that period of those 7 weeks and WvW good flooded by PvE’ers, that WvW was nearly permanent full at specific times and alot of players, especially WvWers had no chance to get into the Maps anymore (which is the reason why EotM comes now)

Before you continue to waste your time and energy (in my opinion) in future more with putting PvE Content into WvW, I personally would much more likely love to see that tiome and energy getting used for fundamental WvW improvements within 1 or 2 WvW special Patchs, that are for nothign else made, than to improve just only WvW.
Focused Updates are something, which are needed sometimes, instead of slow tiny steps that let you beleive, the Gameplay of that Mode gets improved as fast as a slug moving.

I’d love to see all of the current WvW Skills getting merged more and improved, so that all of them have 10 Tiers of Skills as also some new Skill Lines that improve WvW to give us a much better impression of playing a real war between “worlds” with much better improved class roles for WvW.

Thats why I think something like class spcific WvW Skill Lines are absolutely a must to strengthen the roles of each class for WvW.

The Commander System needs fundamental improvements for WvW.
Mercenary Camps need to become much more important and should be something that should exist in all WvW Maps and not just only in the Eternal Battle Fields.

Keeps, Supply Camps, Towers ect. need more Tiers to improve them and to build them up into higher tiers of basements, like turning a Keep into a Fortress, like turning a Tower into an Outpost, like turning a Supply Camp into a Sanitary Center ect.
That are fundamental mechanics and gameplay features, that WvW needs, not temporal PvE Content, that just annoys most of the players, cause its only there to hold either people up, or is something obsolete, like the current thumpers, that are for nothing good in WvW at all if you destroy them and even don’t give any WvW Exp, if you destroy them, so just destroying them, is a waste of time …

WvW could be also improve more, with adding more new Traps to the trap Vendor, or improve WvW with new Siege Weapons, or new Siege Weapon Skins to unlock for your account ..

Thats the real stuff, that peopole want to see for WvW and not, how some random electric pillars are placed all over the wvw maps with some annoying enemies defending them or such things, that interests no single WvW Player.

Just wanted to add my voice and say that this is a perfect example of what’s wrong with the gem store. Either add the same watchwork bonus to the previously released gathering tools or remove that functionality from the watchwork one and leave it the same as the others.

Others have brought up the slippery slope argument, I don’t need to go into it. Maybe ArenaNet is hesitating because they’re coming off another huge gem store scandal with the human light T3, but this is unacceptable. Find another way to make money from the gem store without compromising your integrity, please.

@Nike, I get that. I just feel like (like this morning) this thread had been pushed all the way to the second page, and stickies don’t work all that well, because people not always look at the stickies (see the Dolyak express). So in terms of exposure, the general discussion forum gets so much traffic for other unrelated things that it hinders the visibility by being here.

My opinion of course…

I completely agree the process needs to get better exposure.

I mostly find my way to Dev “hotspots” by using the Dev-Tracker. They tend to revisit places they’ve been recently. Its how I chased down BobbyStein to have a little chat about Player Voice in the Scarlet Climax.

I don’t think having a single “CDI Category/Board” is wrong, I just think that IF doing so pulls the threads out from in front of the faces of casual forum-goers the move is self-defeating. We have a CDI compilation stickied – make its steady maintenance steady for one thing.

And I should have said it earlier when the post was made – having CDI activity (start dates, stop dates, branches opening, whatever) broadcast via the big red announcements at the top of the page we see for things like server updates is a BRILLIANT idea. I think the mere existence of the CDI process needs a blog post linked via the log-in news feed, and I think when the reviews of “How CDI has impacted the new release” is gathered it also needs treatment comparable to the Evon Gnashblade Sales pages – get the word out there that ArenaNet treats players as part of the solution and not just part of the flock.

Just a little fun with something I thought about.

Has anyone noticed that the Guild Wars 2 forums have the same classes that you find in game?

Forum Warrior: These are the people that will defend their position emphatically, even when nobody else is even interested anymore. They will bunker down in a topic and sit for an hour, telling everyone why their opinion is the best.

Forum Guardian: These are the ones similar to the warrior, but spend more time defending Guild Wars 2 than they do themselves.

Forum Thief: The poster that puts in a single witty (at least in their mind) comment and then disappear. Sometime later, they may pop back in, but it’s only briefly.

Forum Engineer: Those that will take part of what a few other posters have already said and spin it in such a way that it becomes something totally different, can be explosive, but in most situations is useless.

Forum Necromancer: These are either the posters that resurrect old and well-dead topics or bring up old ideas that have been rehashed over and over again.

Forum Elementalist: These are the ones that explode into a topic right away, and if the other posters haven’t moved on after that, this person does. All burst… no substance.

Forum Mesmer: These are the posters that say the same thing over and over again, basically cloning their original comments excessively, usually prefaced by “My point still stands.” (I’m guilty as charged on this one.)

Forum Ranger: Usually contributes nothing to a topic, but fights like hell to prove they are important.

DISCLAIMER: This is just a bit of fun. Take it at that.

The pick adds loot to mining that no other pick can get. My harvesting tools are solely cosmetic and infinite, which give me zero advantage over any other player who uses Ori picks.

This is a massive red flag for GW2 in my opinion, and I think we are in for serious P2W items soon. Say what you will about sprockets being cheap and that a player will not make any real money from using these picks over Molten Picks, but sprockets trade for the same amount as copper ATM. This game is headed in the wrong direction.

What's wrong with Logan?

in Lore

Posted by: Shiren.9532

Shiren.9532

It doesn’t have to be big changes or a rush. The world is set up for it already.

The humans are losing the war with the centaurs. After a big loss (Fort Salma is destroyed) Minister Caudecus criticiseses the Queen for supporting Ebonhawke when Kryta is in dire straights. All of Kryta’s resources should be going to protecting her own people, withdrawing support for Ebonhawke would also make talks with the charr easier (Caudecus doesn’t care about this, he just want to hit the Queen with it). Faced with losing support from the people and the council and possibly the war with the centaurs, the Queen decides to cut ties to Ebonhawke. Logan can’t accept that, those are his people, his family’s legacy, so he quits and leaves the Queen. This change in Kryta is big enough to make Logan question his dedication to it, a believable betrayal of Ebonhawke and a revival of Logan’s pre-Seraph identity.

Things get real bad in Ebonhawke. Without the Fallen Angels or supplies from Kryta, the city is divided and overthrown by Separatists. In attempts to replace the supplies from Kryta, Separatists become more aggressive in charr territory, kittening off the Black Citadel.

Working from behind the scenes (with the support of the Order of Whispers and Elonians wanting to maintain the door to the Crystal Desert) Logan and a few free Ebon Vanguard form an elite unit, giving hope to the oppressed people of the city by reviving legends of the Ebon Falcons, Kieran Thackeray’s unit that helped found the city 250 years ago. Ebon Vanguard propaganda starts appearing in Ebonhawke and Ascalonian settlements in Kryta.

Insert series of events showing Logan’s unit saving the charr from Separatists, Separatists swapping sides (characterise them with believable and representative villains, showing the depth of that conflict beyond “these are the bad guys hurr durr”), grandstanding villain at prisoner execution disrupted by the Ebon Vanguard etc. Mix in some charr rebels as well. Finish with a joint Vanguard/charr assault, retaking Ebonhawke and Logan refusing to hand it over the charr.

Follow it up with Logan beginning scouting missions into the Crystal Desert. His new allies help reforge Ebonhawke as a bastion at the edge of an Elder Dragon’s domain. When the Crystal Desert does open up, Logan is now positioned to proceed with his redemption.

Give Logan a makeover. Think less “Disney prince” and more “Sparatcus, rebel gladiator” from the Starz TV series. Ditch the Seraph armour (he’s not one any more) and give him some new gladiator/Ebonhawke themed armour. Less steel, more leather, maybe even some exposed skin (it’s hot in the Crystal Desert), he is a gladiator after all. Give him back his hammer (everyone loves free protection from NPC auto-attacks) or finally give him Magdaer (how long to norn smiths take?). Give him a hair cut and some stubble, he’s not trying to woo the Queen or play politics in the city, he’s a soldier on the front lines in daily skirmishes, no need for long locks and daily grooming. His appearance should help characterise his new life and how different it was from his cushy job in Kryta.

I’m really glad the OP pointed out how different Logan was in the game from how he was before he met the Queen in the book. I’m really interested to see what their proposal for how to turn him into a great character again looks like.

What's wrong with Logan?

in Lore

Posted by: Shiren.9532

Shiren.9532

Regarding his move from leather to plate, it’s the same thing Kieran did (I believe Kieran’s swap was intended to honour Logan’s position as guardian, I do think it’s strange they repeated it in Edge of Destiny).

Logan is too defined by Destiny’s Edge and Queen Jennah. They keep writing him like he’s terrible at his job and he’s annoying and weak when he’s around the Queen. Solution? Give him his autonomy back. Send him to Ebonhawke. Increasing hostility with the rebels and instability in Ebonhawke threatens the peace between humans and charr. Logan goes to deal with it, gets in touch with his ancestry and his legacy and decides to quit the Seraph, ditch the Queen and join “his” people.

Logan’s ancestry is very prominent. Two Ascalonian heroes who founded Ebonhawke. Ebonhawke and it’s relevant figures are someone under-represented in the story given how prominent this part of the world is to GW1 players (and it also plays into the charr story). I’d like to see a story where Logan leaves Kryta, leaves the Seraph and leaves the Queen. He takes on the mantle of the leader of Ebonhawke in honour of his lineage.

Use the Living Story to remove him from Kryta, kill the inane love story. Set up Samuelsson as Jennah’s political match (Krytan and Ascalonian royal lines merged, although I heard it’s happened before) and set Logan up in Ebonhawke as a soldier/leader. Ebonhawke would believably rally under the ancestor of Kieran and Gwen. Have him work on the treaty with the charr – something I’d like to see the Living Story deal with anyway and as a Krytan Jennah isn’t as credible when it comes to Ebonhawke (spend some time there, the conflict is very personal). This allows him to repair his relationship with Rytlock at the same time. Once that’s done, the story is set up to move into the Crystal Desert expansion and Logan’s true redemption, Kralkatorrik. Fighting behind enemy lines is what the Ebon Vanguard are known for, under Logan’s leadership there could be some nice parallels with GW1 in the Crystal Desert.

The biggest problem with Logan is his relationship with Jennah. She undermines him as a character, his decisions are about her, his actions betray other priorities for her (at her bequest, she called for his help) and keeping him around her in Kryta is stopping him from growing as a character. Give Jennah the political pairing she wants and give Logan the freedom to be a hero of Tyria befitting of his legacy.

You are nuts.

he he… picking at threads here. Aetherblades stealing Hologram projectors during Skypirates of Tyria, we see Scarlet use Holographic projection to taunt us ever since and use them to make false walls to hide secret lairs. Feel like there is more to this.

Marjory’s E could be Minister Etham, seems like a good minister in the mix, and I think she would have mentioned him not being human in her story. She also ask Logan about it, poking around Divinity Reach contacts more makes me think this person “seemed” human to her.

Caith’s secret? Zhaitan is not dead. She knew this and yet said nothing to her friends.

I still think she is forming her own version of Tyria…
Consortium → Black Lion

Aetherblades → Pact
Inquest → Asura (technology) – >Priory

Krait → Humans (gods)
Nightmare Court → Sylvari

Molten Alliance – > Vigil
Flame Legion → Charr
Dredge → Norn

Watchworks →Order of Whispers/Pact

Scarlet's Secret Lair *Major Spoilers*

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Volstag.6371

Volstag.6371

If this is the case, we should be able to find her other bases. This is a hypothesis we can examine by simply searching really hard.

I’ve been all over Lion’s Arch, and didn’t notice any secret lair, but LA is a pretty big place, and it can be easy to hide something there.

Maybe it is in plain sight? I have started to think the Consortium is Scarlet’s Black Lion and they have a gate to the Mist.

I searched all over LA too, trying to find another base (even the sewers). It could have represented the Aetherbase, if the lair was there before Scarlet left it for us to find, but I doubt it. That is another thing, how did the Priory find it? The original watchknights could imitate other creatures, you don’t think Scarlet is using glamoured watchknights as spies do you?

I searched around the island where the Chantry of Secrets is never finding another secret base. There is an odd group of Pirates on the back side of the Island, and Inquest (Scarlet’s research arm) that attack a Lionsguards fort. There is a small cave inlet to the east of island that has the potential to be an entrance but no such luck right now. Still searching the West side of the island.

OK…Crazy Time!

I have also considered how Scarlet felt about the meddlesome humans. What if…she isn’t talking directly about “us” but about the movements of the Ministry/White Mantle? I theorize that at Caudecus’s Manor, the Queen was abducted and replaced with Mesmer Illusions. It is only after the manor that the Queen sends Logan away and now the Shinning Blade will not even let him near the Queen. It is possible a shadow war between Scarlet’s Alliance and the White Mantle have been fighting over the bloodstones, both needing the Queen to “seal” the deal. That would explain the attack on the Jubilee. It is the Mesmer illusion shattering as Lord Faren reaches for it that anyone one knows different. If that is true then the Shinning Blade could actually be controlled by the White Mantel as well. Could this all lead up to us confronting the Queen and discovering that she is a Watchknight in disguise? That could lead to Logan being banished to Ebonhawk and/or the Search for the Queen, (wild guess is she is in Cantha) and that the Ministry of Purity there is actually controlled by the White Mantle.

TLDR: Volstag is nuts.

Guild Wars 2 Narrative Lead

What people don’t understand is that we wrote and voiced a lot of these moments throughout the year. Some scenes and story instances were cut or never implemented in the final releases, which is why this particular story instance was longer than the typical one and filled with lots of exposition.

I sincerely hope that over course of the year there was an opportunity to get the Hero Voice Actors back into studio and allow the players to be more engaged in the climax of the arc than as mute witnesses.

Scavenge some clips from the existing Personal Story library if you have to, but please don’t leave us completely silent in the face of these world altering events!

Funny that you mention player voice. I’ve had a few meetings recently about that. I can’t go into details but I will say that it’s on the list of things we’re looking to address. The current issue is more of a tech one and less of a “we don’t want the player to talk” decision.

This new pick was bad karma. It will bite Anet repeatedly. And it should.

BAD FORM.

Sprocket Tool: A proposed compromise.

One part of the argument is that people are upset that their previously-purchased tools are now worse by comparison to this new one.

The other part of the argument is that no matter if its this one single tool or all the unlimited tools, it still gives the unlimited tools an inherent advantage over normal tools. Its no longer just convenience over never having to buy another tool, now you actually have a tangible advantage over players who don’t want to buy the unlimited ones. You buy an unlimited tool, you get bonus loot. You don’t want to spend the cash or high in-game gold for the conversion, you don’t get that.

Your solution only solves half the problem. Unless they give the PLAYER an upgrade slot instead of the tool, that way all players can apply that upgrade to themselves and get bonus loot whether they have a normal tool or an infinite one.

At Chris’ request, I’m going to further define the structure I laid out in a previous post regarding User Stories.

For those who are unfamiliar with the term, user stories are a method of determining requirements or opening discussion for the development of a software project.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_story

  • The story is written as one or a couple of sentences where the developer (in this case, each one of us) makes a request or statement that they want the piece of software to perform. The statement is usually written in the most simple language or vocabulary as possible, as if a user (or in our terms, a player) were speaking to the developer directly.

For example – As a <role>, I want <goal/desire> so that <benefit>

“As a WvW player, I want stronger defensive tools/rewards, so that zerging across objectives is lessened and defense is more valued.”

  • After the basic story is established, the poster could spend a couple paragraphs detailing their design. Again, whenever possible, the most basic language and vocabulary should be used. This way, any player of any language can understand the design, critique it, and offer their own insight.
  • The idea of simplified user stories would allow people like Chris and other contributing Devs to get a quick overview of what the player wants and why they want it. If the Dev agrees with the player or the player touches upon an aspect or design that may already be in discussion or development by Arenanet internally, then the developer can read through a player’s detailed design suggestions.
  • Interesting user stories Devs can “Favorite” or “Tag” to be explored further, or used within the final proposal at the company roundtable.

Essentially, it puts us, the players, in the developer’s chair as if we were at one of Arenanet’s SCRUM or Sprint meetings.

Personally, I feel establishing a format for a concise presentation like a user story would help us cut down on a lot of the redundancy, confusion, and length that have existed in previous CDIs.

As a <role>, I want <goal/desire> so that <benefit>

Something akin to this structure or user story template at the beginning of every player’s post would make elements like type of player, intent, and scope much more visible from a simple statement.

Scarlet's Secret Lair *Major Spoilers*

Well we know in the next patch that Scarlet is sending her Aetherblade pirates to the Edge of the Mists map.

And I’m going to sit on my Bloodstone theory:

1) Queen Jennah is a target for her bloodline
2) The Molten Alliance were building that giant drill
3) The Aetherblade Pirates are her Navy and Airforce
4) The Watchwork soldiers are her Army

What she’s doing…she’s found a way to unlock the Bloodstones but for that she needs the Keystone which will be found in…the Edge of the Mists? Maybe. Possibly. Hopefully. But probably not.

After that she’s going to get the Keystone to the Edge of the Mists, mobilize the Watchwork Army to the Orders, send an Aetherblade Assault to Lion’s Arch and spread Toxins in Divinity’s Reach to kidnap Queen Jennah (because the Queen will be protected with tooth and nail, not something that you can just accomplish in bloodshed but with stealth) and make way to Bloodstone Fen in the Maguuma Jungle.

I’d like to say my opinion on this topic:

I think CDIs in general should be quicker (no more than 2 weeks) and at the same time more publicised by ANet.

I mean, every time I have to explain to my guildies what are CDIs, what CDIs topic we discussed, summarize the entire thing…

My suggestion: next time in the patch notes, after listing all the in-game changes, you put a big, shiny “NEW CDI HAS STARTED! TOPIC: COMMANDER SYSTEM. FEEL FREE TO JOIN!!!”.

What do you think?

Thank you for reading.
