One person mentioned Southsun Cove and I have to agree. It’s close, has “pirate paradise” written all over it, already has several wrecked ships that can be retooled into buildings like Lion’s Arch is and even has its own jumping puzzles. The only problem is the karka. I personally would love to see a living story patch where players decide to exterminate, relocate or domesticate them.

Thank you for making a healthy, happy, functioning, and non-obsessive lesbian relationship. Caithe/Faolain is most certainly none of those things, and I find people trying to draw any parallel between the two couples to be very foolish.

I enjoy Kasmeer and Marjory, both for their own selves and for their fun and cute interactions together. It doesn’t feel “forced” at all. On the contrary, their relationship and care for each other seems very natural and well-written – much better written than a lot of the stuff in this game, I have to add, which is doubtless one big reason why they’ve become so popular.

That’s all I wanted to say. There’s a lot of negativity and needless, endless circular debates about the motives of the writers, and I simply wanted to counterbalance that with some appreciative words. These characters and their relationship have increased my enjoyment of the game. Thank you for making them.

lolwut. Where on earth would Scarlet get the tech for carpet bombing from? I honestly don’t think that’s in the realm of likelihood.

She has airships, she has explosives. Just chuck them over the side. There’s your carpet bombing.

If you have airships, why would you ever bother to land troops on the ground? That defeats the purpose of having the advantage of being up in the air. If I had an airship, I’d simply fly over the main defensive structures of the city, and drop as many explosives over the side as I could. Then once the city was in ashes, I would land some troops to clean up the rest. That is how you use an airship.

First, the game was advertised as changeable. I bought the game for the reason that the maps would change and I’d constantly have new things to explore. So yes, it was advertised as such. I remember one developer add stating something like “Centaurs might destroy a whole village one day, and then no one would be able to go back to it as it once was.”

Second, Scarlet is the very definition of a good villain. Somehow, this prevailing attitude that she isn’t has taken over because of the fact that the entire story didn’t take place in one update. If you look through the whole arc, she didn’t suddenly appear for no reason. it started relatively slowly, with her mustering troops. And while it seemed she pulled the Aetherblades for no reason at all (besides attacking Lion’s Arch) her reasons are now perfectly clear.

She started with a small force. She took her pirates, attacked LA, and found the defenses too strong to immediately do what she wanted.

So what did she do? Rethought things. Recruited the molten alliance. The Krait. Developed a new plan. Essentially went back to the drawing board, started over, and came up with something fool-proof.

Every Living Story update has been a step of that plan. In fact, if the whole story happened in one update, THAT would make Scarlet a bad villain. We have seen her development. We have seen her amassing her troops. This whole thing is a year in the making – all the pieces fit, and it all makes sense.

At times, the story wasn’t executed perfectly, but that doesn’t make it BAD.

It seems to me that people are used to the instant gratification that you might get from an expansion pack on other MMOs, where you can play the whole story through in a few hours, then go on to talk about the lack of endgame (since you would have already finished the endgame, but I digress.) You’ve been given an ever-changing world with new content every two weeks, and that is nothing short of amazing.

I have never understood all the hate aimed at Overflow, yes the Karka event was a nightmare, but sense then they have fixed it. I would rather have overflows then trying to log in and being told server is full, please sit in a cue for 45 mins. While not perfect Overflow is a lot better then not being able to play the content at all.

Good riddance!

They’d have to make historical instances for the personal story, though. A lot of mid-level content revolves around Lion’s Arch.

…but doing so means they’d be free to do a lot more with the living story.

Indeed. More important than destroying a city, this is a sign that they are (finally) moving forward with the story and are not afraid of messing with the Personal Story anymore. That means that important characters of the Personal Story can die, cities can be build (please please please expand Ebonhawke), Orr can be cured, the peace treaty between Charr and Humans can be signed, the Charr can get rid of the ghosts, and so on!
This is great for the game, and as the rabid fan that I am, I couldn’t be happier.

I’m totally okay with losing Lion’s Arch, maybe even in favor of it as long as this means that

-Each racial city is getting their own mystic forge, portal hub, wvw-pvp portals and Fractals gate.
-Returning or temporary LS events are equally spread apart across the racial cities (Hoelbrak getting Wintersday due to setting aesthetics, Black Citadel getting Holloween now due to the new Bloody Prince connections, Rata Sum and Divinity’s Reach sticking with SAB and Queen’s Jubilee, etc.)
-Certain dungeon armor sellers are relative to each city (Ascalon Catacombs and CoF sticking to the Black Citadel, Twilight Arbor armor can only be bought from a seller in The Grove, etc.)

If Divnity’s Reach is going to become the new hub that everyone is forced to congregate to, then I see no point in getting rid of Lion’s Arch.

This. This and this.

I ALWAYS wanted Hoelbrak to be the Wintersday hub…I mean that thing looks like a fairy tale. With destruction of LA, other cities should get more importance. Make it happen, Anet!

Burning down LA seems masochistic and has shark jumping potential. I can’t help picturing the devs posturing, “Come at us bro. We’re willing to burn the whole thing to the ground!” This type of inflationary story telling mirrors the inflationary model being applied crafting.

Hopefully the reward of rebuilding the world makes this worthwhile. Would be interesting to see player choices and actions influence how the world is rebuilt. Tyria could really use some sandbox.

Maybe that’s it! The answer to the “why” – LA to become the area where player housing is located! Meh one can only dream and hope. :P

….
We defended (and I wouldn’t say easily) LA against a dragon champion, and a mindless monster of one at that. Not to mention the army that time was undead; not exactly overachievers. Scarlet is intelligent and resourceful and has an army made up of multiple factions of civilized races who have pooled their tech together into a very advanced and potent force. She is considerably better prepared and better equipped to take the city than Zhaitan ever was.

She also has failed at every invasion attempt she made. Zhaitan owns three entire maps which are NEVER conquered by the players or the pact. There is no ingame reason for why she should succeed at something that Zhaitan failed at. That is bad writing for me.

This is simply false. In every “invasion” or alliance scenario, Scarlet obtained what she wanted. With the Molten Alliance, her goal was to obtain the specific sonic technology used in the thumpers. With the Aetherblades, the goal of the invasion was to kill a member of the Captain’s Council and install one of her own on the seat – the first part (the actual invasion + assassination) succeeded, while the player thwarted her attempt to put Mai Trin on the council. With the Toxic Alliance, her goal was to obtain a poison and modify it to be immune to any antidote that the races could concoct – the tower itself was arbitrary, though, if it had been left unchecked, things would have been worse. In the Queen’s Jubilee event, her goal was to obtain the clockwork army – everything else was secondary. The Marionette wasn’t an invasion – it was a weapon’s test.

So what, exactly has she failed at?

Right now I feel Anet is just getting better and better. Living story is really starting to show its potential and feel more like a living world.

The trailer really gave me the chills. It is starting to show a more realistic(fictional) world and not as cartoonish it was before(say 6 months ago).

Cudos to Anet for making this. It really feels like they are going all in right now.

They hands down took the right decision choosing LA (IF and only IF it’s permanent)
1. LA has stood in this game as long or longer then abaddon..orr…or any other content this game has ever seen….i mean COME THE KITTEN ON!
2. Because of (1) it has a huge sentimental value to both oldschool and new players…so anything that happens to LA good or bad also has an impact on the players themselves.
3. Destroying LA would mean several things for the game:
- It’s not permanently tied to the past
- It can actually support PERMANENT changes
- Means a new start (good or bad) for all races of Tyria considering LA was like their local bar
- The game moves forward in it’s history.

Nothing lasts forever as they said….LA has withstood longer then “forver” i feel. It’s time to let go and look for a new future. Just imagine if they actually make an event in which we start creating a NEW city for all races (not called LA and not in LA zone)…where we contribute for 2-3 months by doing quests collecting stuff and so on. That would be amazing because at the end of the day u will think “hey i was part of this and i built this”. It would be the perfect opportunity to get players involved into content that effects Tyria forever (bad AND good).

Similar was the karka launch event where we built the settlements and bridges and so on. That day even tho it sucked because of the technical issues was honstly the one i am most found off because i helped do something there that i can come back and see years after and feel proud even tho it was pre-scripted lol.

But again…if this is another temporary thing….like “we have to take back LA in 1month” i am sorry but this event that “changes the face of Tyria forever” equals to an almost flawless 0 never before seen.

One thing you guys need to keep in mind, this is not just ANet. It’s not just NCSoft. This has been happening with alarmingly increasing frequency all over the internet for the last few months. Google been running slow for you a few times? Well guess what.

Enjin’s been getting hit a lot, Sony’s been getting hit, as well as other MMO’s. This is not specific and ANet isn’t the one to fault here.

Not a lot that can be done with the sheer volume these god kitten script kiddies have been shooting at the internet lately.

Opening up the Dominion during the destruction of the city and introducing Tengu as playable shortly after would be a wonderful move. This is absolutely the perfect opportunity to bring them into the fold and I think Anet would be making a huge mistake not to.

The Ruined City of Lion’s Arch as the new dungeon! just sayin’ Lupicus solo vids are getting old…

I hope Zomorros is the end boss. He takes all your gold if you wipe!

you’re thinking too small. Zomorros would have a RNG chance to permantetly delete one item on your character every time he hits you. Once you are out of items he will start taking away levels on each hit.

Additionally he hits every player in a 200000 AOE every .5 seconds and has 10 million health.

once you reach level 1 he starts deleting your characters.

I am sincerely confused at this point. For a moment there I thought there was a glimpse of hope and after acknowledging, partially at any rate, how much of a terrible trainwreck Scarlet is overall they would start withdrawing from it. Instead this is getting progressively “No one else has done this, but you can bet Scarlet will because.”

This isn’t even a rage post, I am just confused at this point. What is going on? Why do they keep doing this sort of thing? Does no one in management or quality control ever manage to voice up and go “You may just not want to do that because it is silly.”?

Because they had it all completed months ago and nobody puts that kind of work into something and doesn’t use it. I mean, except for Minecraft mod developers. But they’re a special sort of insane.

They know we (that is, most of the people on the forum) don’t like Scarlet. They know there were problems with her. What they’re doing is saying “hold your noses people and let’s just get through the first ‘season’ then we will attempt to do better come round two”.

Of course I predict plenty of people on the forums are invested enough in bashing the Living Story concept to not like anything they do very vocally and let people know how much it sucks. So we won’t see a change in the forum’s tone. Because internet.
