Stop, Pop, and Go
Stop: stop moving.
Pop: activate some sort of condition removal.
Go: get out of the way of further attacks.
They are not the new DE.
They are a separate group of characters introduced through this living story.
Nobody needs to be replaced, finally we got likeable, actual characters ever since Tybalt and few others. No need to kill anybody either, just to fill in the “new DE quota” by copying the same story element for the sake of copying it.
No no no and no…I want them ALL to stay, I totally like them ever since this update, and keep on having them, replacing them would be a very, very bad idea.

Ahem I don’t think there should be a 1 for 1. And besides, keep in mind the original Destiny’s Edge had 6 members (7 if you include Garm).
Remember, Remember, the Snaff who’s a member.
@Argon: It’s no longer speculation. In a livestream, Angel called them a couple.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
The marionette has so much more roles, subtasks and interesting mechanics than the wurm does. That’s basically an auto-attack spamfest with 1 ‘mechanic’.
I know that the marionette cannot be kept, but it’s leagues better than any world boss currently available.
Sorry for the long ramble that is to follow: here are some of my thoughts on Scarlet’s motivations, not necessarily her targets.
Plus the whole ting with Zhaitan falling to his “doom” is a classic – show me the dead body and I’ll believe he’s gone.
“This rose has thorns, and here they are!”
Sylvari shout this when they get Retaliation – Retaliation is a boon that damages anyone who hits the affected target. The attacker will not be damaged if the attack fails to hit. Retaliation does not reduce or prevent damage taken.
A Briar is a form of Rose
Scarlet wants to free the Sylvari (and perhaps everyone else) from their “predestined/predetermined” lives.
To Break the symettry of NIghtfare and Dream etc
Is the Vision she has of the Pale Tree wrapped with the Briar(?) Thorns a vision of the Dream and Nightmare entangled together?
Perhaps there is a symettry with each race/elder dragon/dragon?
Also of Note is the
The Brier score is a proper score function that measures the accuracy of probabilistic predictions. It is applicable to tasks in which predictions must assign probabilities to a set of mutually exclusive discrete outcomes. The set of possible outcomes can be either binary or categorical in nature, and the probabilities assigned to this set of outcomes must sum to one (where each individual probability is in the range of 0 to 1). It was proposed by Glenn W. Brier in 1950.1
The Brier score can be thought of as either a measure of the “calibration” of a set of probabilistic predictions, or as a “cost function”. More precisely, across all items i\in{1…N} in a set N predictions, the Brier score measures the mean squared difference between:
The predicted probability assigned to the possible outcomes for item i
The actual outcome o_i
Therefore, the lower the Brier score is for a set of predictions, the better the predictions are calibrated. Note that the Brier score, in its most common formulation, takes on a value between zero and one, since this is the largest possible difference between a predicted probability (which must be between zero and one) and the actual outcome (which can take on values of only 0 and 1). The original (1950) formulation of the Brier score, the range is double, from zero to two.
The Brier score is appropriate for binary and categorical outcomes that can be structured as true or false, but is inappropriate for ordinal variables which can take on three or more values (this is because the Brier score assumes that all possible outcomes are equivalently “distant” from one another).
Which is all about Probability – which is what she was exposed to in Omadd’s experiment, effectively a sea of “Universal probability”.
Also she says
“I’ve learned so much,” Scarlet continued. “Now I have to put that knowledge to use. An insurmountable challenge is rising, and my people have been called to meet it. We are compelled by our creator to do so.
“But I reject that call. I reject the notion that that I must choose the Dream or be lost to Nightmare. The forces that push us this way or that can be redirected. They can be set against one another to the detriment of both, and now I know how.”
Also given this quote from http://www.gamerzines.com/mmo/sacred-destroyed-pondering-guild.html:
This malevolent being out there was so powerful that it started taking over her mind and giving her suggestions in terms of what she should be doing and things like that. There is a big point here, in terms of the battle between Scarlet’s free will versus this creature’s and you’ll see her transformation.”
Yet again breaking the mold/symettry of the Sylvari Destiny (Nightmare/Dream).
She means to remake the world, perhaps to stop and endless cycle of the Eleder Dragons Rising and being Put Down.
Thus the Marrionette – is the weapons test to prove that the strings of destiny can be cut?

Complete waste of time.
I wouldn’t have minded so much except that I didn’t even really get any loot.
/end snip
I suspect this is the true reason you didn’t like it.
/snip
…they have absolutely no chance of getting the living story reward in the two-week time limit.
/endsnip
As far as we know, this chapter is lasting longer than 2 weeks…or did you not read the dev’s posts?
/snip
But now these super-hard Tequatl-style bosses are blocking progress in the temporary content, and it means players like me are left in the dust.
/endsnip
What you are actually saying is that:
a. The content is too hard for you
b. There’s not enough loot for you
c. Anet should ignore everyone who enjoys hard content because you don’t like it.
I am a casual player. I have a life. I will never be able to get Ascended gear (and don’t really care to, either,) and I have no desire to get a legendary (right now.)
I am enjoying the hell out of these new encounters, and I hope ANet makes more like the Marionette.
What I am saying is that you do not speak for ALL casual players, and I take offense that you would say you are speaking on my behalf simply because you do not like the content.
Good day…
Orange circles have nothing to do with whether or not a game is “art”, much less “good art” or “toilet art” (whatever that means). Art isn’t arbitrarily limited to imagery being naturalisticly rendered or animated any more than op-art or modern art or abstract art or any sort of more wildly experimental art is not art simply because it doesn’t involve an illustrative rendering of a subject. Using abstract shapes and colors in a non-representative format to lead the viewer’s eye has been a tool in art long before video games existed.
If you consider that ascended weps the armour also came out you will see that the casual player is being forgotten.
A casual player doesn’t need Ascended Armour/Weapons at all, as casuals don’t run higher level Fractals.
It’s entirely possible he hasn’t been in the instance yet.
I’d say this is the best story release BY FAR.

Nuke Lions Arch and burn it to the ground please. I hate the place, its chock full of AFK’ers and extroverts who want attention 24/7. And thats just the NPC’s!
No but really, KILL IT WITH FIRE!
Give LA a kicking, move the Asura gates to………………….oh I dont know how about Rata Sum, ya know the place where they were invented? Like an Asura is going to give up a monopoly on world wide transit though its City as a main hub.
That or put the fractals gate in Rata Sum, since ya know the Asura are the ones doing the experiments in fractals “rift”. And they would want to be close to home for spare parts, new theorems and be home in time for dinner.
But to tldr; KILL IT WITH FIRE!
This could be implemented as a part of the living world, but be permanently.
Still think a long quest series taking you all over would work better, since it be long can’t be farmed as much or as quick, also bound item at the end so no reselling.
Regarding the topic, perhaps the locals can re-purpose the wood used in the tower (that was taken from the surrounding trees) to construct a monument on the shores of Viathan Lake to commemorate the victory. Showing the structure in various states of construction over the next few updates, while also including NPCs chopping at the remains of the fallen fortress and the incremental lessening of fragments littering the area, would really give the world that Living World feel.

This is a way to get people frustrated and quit.
Think about it for a second.
Take me for example. I work daytime and only have 1~2 hrs play time per day..
out of the 1~2 hours I will want to be WvW, fighting bosses, crafting, PvP, etc most of my time. (Hint. Traveling is not in one of my preferred activities!!)
If waypoints are scarce I might be spending 1.5hours out of 2 hours running…. which is freaking boring and tedious to do.
after a week I will quit. If i want to play a running simulator, I will get Wii Fit not GW2.
If you like running, by all means run! but dont take away my WPs because I and a lot of people do not enjoy running everywhere
I really dislike this mentality that ‘one player’ causes everyone to fail; it simply isn’t true. It takes 3 failed chains and poor lane defense, or 4 fails with good lane defense. That’s pretty forgiving for a boss meant to be pretty difficult, and definitely more than can be pinned on the shoulders of one person.
Rather than give grief to people for wanting to play the game they paid for(and offensive as the thought might be, it really isn’t ‘content made for well-geared 80’s only), maybe it’s time to think about maximizing effectiveness; even an appropriately leveled for the area warrior can be a banner machine, and plenty of other classes can provide buffs and other benefits even without being super geared for devastating dps. See if you can’t pull a higher concentration of non-80’s to the easier fight on lane one, then reinforce them with a party of you uber elites from lane two for the next chain round if it comes to it. And for goodness sake, help people out! Very very few who show up to the party are apathetic about the outcome, and if you’re so hung up on victory or bust isn’t a little bit of typing effort in the coordination phase worth it to make your chances better? Even just calling out a quick rundown of champ tactics and tips can help. Put that skill and knowledge to good use, instead of blaming a few for what really is a whole group effort both on and off the platforms.
And that could come down to pure dumb luck.
No, it was great teamwork. Everyone listened to the more experienced players, and followed commands perfectly. Plus I sent over some reinforcements from lane 1 to lane 3, after lane 1 had completed the chain event. I knew that lane 3 was lacking players, and that is was generally regarded as being harder. I’m not sure if this is what ensured our victory, but it could have been a deciding strategic move.
We also had good morale. Everyone was confident that we could succeed, and succeed we did.
Depends on priorities, really. If the goal is to make an event only people perfectly prepared and gear can complete .. if they get lucky and it isn’t ruined by a handful of inexperienced players or even griefers.. then yes, it’s well designed.
For typical players? It’s a shame.
You are incorrect. This evening we had a very poorly prepared group, and only one commander (me), but we still made it. We did not have an optimum amount of players. Most players were probably not perfectly geared, and we had to explain the mechanics to everyone in map chat. A lot of them were casual players. We did not use Team Speak.
Everyone gave it their best, and we prevailed. It really isn’t as impossible as you make it out to be. Yes, it is hard (perhaps harder than it needed to be), but perfectly doable by casual, unprepared players.

I had a super epic encounter last night where everyone in my champion ring died except for me almost immediately (we were fighting the shrieker). Then, I went on to solo the boss, killing it with 20 seconds to spare, and managed to finish off the power regulator with less than a half-second remaining on the clock. All of this was happening to the cheers in /say chat from the viewers, stunned that a Necromancer of all things soloed the boss and ultimately broke the chain. We went on to win the whole thing because of that success (we had no failures allowed left before bar filled), and it made me swell with pride to think that not only had I achieved something truly great and not only had I benefited about 100 other people, but that a group of them watched it in disbelief and cheered me on. It was nerve-wracking and absolutely unforgettably amazing.
It’s moments like these that I remember forever, and for that, I thank ANet for making such an amazing and awesome fight where I could show off my personal skill and make a difference for everyone.
1) Players have different roles. Instead of everyone doing the same thing at the same time (stack, zerk, kill) as is the case with many bosses, players must simultaneously fight minions to prevent them from entering the portals, construct and repair defenses, and attempt to sever the Marionette’s chains.
2) The roles are mutually reinforcing, and your contribution to any role has an immediate and visible impact on the overall event. The better the defenders do, the more attempts the group gets to sever the chains. The better the attackers do, the fewer attempts are necessary. This mechanism, in my opinion, is VASTLY preferable to an arbitrary countdown timer, as it puts more control in the hands of the players.
3) Despite the large group setting, there is still the opportunity for individual/small group heroism. Splitting the attacking group into five smaller groups, where each small group has to accomplish a task, makes individual contributions matter greatly. Where it’s easy to get lost in a zerg and feel as if your contribution isn’t doing much in the grand scheme of things, it’s obvious that what you do individually matters here.
4) The difficulty is very carefully tuned. Success is definitely possible, but by no means guaranteed. Boss encounters should not be so easy that winning is essentially a guarantee with no effort (see most previous world bosses), but also not be so difficult that they discourage players from future attempts. The Marionette walks that line nicely by providing incremental benchmarks for success – each chain cut is a miniature success on the path to overall success, and even if you fail, it’s easy to imagine doing incrementally better the next time.
5) Rewards scale with performance instead of being all-or-nothing. Even if the overall event fails, you receive some reward for the partial successes you achieved, preventing a failure from being perceived as a total waste of time and thus encouraging players to try again even when success is not guaranteed.
6) This event fosters community. Never have I seen so many map chat messages saying, “We believe in you!”, “You can do it!”, and “Go team! It’s up to us!” And if you ask me, that’s the best part of the whole thing.
I just want to know how Kiel and Evon will play into the story.
It doesn’t drop champion bags in order to prevent people from failing it on purpose and raging at those that don’t go along with it.
Mostly this. Every event that the champ farming reward is greater than the final reward has resulted in people not wanting it to succeed. This way the most reward comes from finishing each leg of the event. This was actually asked for in these self same forums.
The dragon in the ceiling is red.
She had alot of colors to draw with, but she did it with red.
Now what dragon is associated with the color red?
Primordus
;D
Thought it is also logical that she used red because she likes the color, and her chosen name IS Scarlet.
Dakka Warforge- Level 80 Charr Engineer
Xairro – Level 80 Asura Revenant
It doesn’t drop champion bags in order to prevent people from failing it on purpose and raging at those that don’t go along with it.
Nothing, of course. And as this is an unfolding storyline, only time will tell…and if it turns out I was wrong about it, I’ll happily come here and concede the point.
I fully expect if it turns out to be nothing more than an offhand comment and this relationship is never brought up, we’ll be back here all discussing how Arenanet wants to bury any semblance of GLBT to please the “social norms”. And everyone will be staking out places and positions once more, causing more utterances of “now I’m not gay, but…” . . .
. . . and then we wind up right back at the top of the thread you replied to where people go “why does that actually matter at all what you are?”.
Wait.. that’s a guy?
It begins.
I cant speak for the Wurm encounter but Ive had no problem getting involved with the Marronette and with decent numbers (second time was on an overflow). Obviously neither time was a successful kill but most there were learning how the fight went and we still did pretty well over all.
The fights aren’t all there are. Just doing the Marronette allows you to proceed with the story part of the LS weither you fail or not. The instance in LA was well done and developed the characters there nicely. The rest is a scavenger hunt Im still working on that unlocks details on Scarlets story.
Over all personally Ive been pretty satisfied and I haven’t even done the Wurm.
I like Scarlet and enjoyed most LS’s.
