I would like some major gay male npcs

Allow me to put it this way. Sylvari are not homosexual. They’re pansexual. The entire race is pansexual. Having a male Sylvari in a relationship with another male Sylvari isn’t a homosexual relationship. Its a pansexual relationship, because both individuals are pansexual.

And this makes them undesirable to you as representatives to your persuasion… how again?

He just said. Because they’re not homosexual. It is not a representation or inclusion of homosexuality if the characters are not homosexual.
Take it from an actual pansexual.

My relationship with my wife, for example, is not a representation of heterosexuality because neither of us are heterosexual, even if we are male and female.

No matter how much I’d like to see a male/male sylvari relationship, it would only be inclusion, really, for pansexuals, because it’s representing a male/male pansexual relationship (unless a gay person decides to count it as inclusion on an individual basis, it varies between people, the OP is not in this boat). And unless it’s very explicitly stated that for some reason those two particular sylvari really do prefer males for some reason, and I don’t really see Anet getting that specific any time soon. This is why he’s asking for humans, because they don’t default to pansexual, and it’s much more likely a male/male relationship with them would be heavily implied to be homosexual instead of bisexual or pansexual.

Hopefully I have explained this concisely and clearly.

Masculine effects for a male Mesmer?

... It’s referencing the butterfly effect (chaos theory), as we deal out chaos magic. Nothing gendered about it. It’s awesome whoever does it and whatever colour it is.

I always see them as purple, not pink, as well, but I suppose it depends where your monitor is adjusted to.

Also, laser beams. The greatsword is shooting out laserbeams of death. It’s a Tyrian lightsabre, and it’s epic! Embrace it!

I used to think that the butterflies were a bit effeminate at first, but as Astral said, while toying around with one of my alts for a bit, I’ve managed to role play a male Mesmer who’s a tad of a playboy rogue.

I now see the pink as magenta/purple (a very royal/noble/typically psychic colour) and the butterflies as gender-neutral effects of the mind-bending glamour.

There are male butterflies. They don’t consider themselves feminine or effeminate. And pink used to be considered a masculine color until about the turn of the century while blue was a feminine color. http://forgottenhistoryblog.com/pink-wasnt-always-considered-a-feminine-color-and-blue-wasnt-always-masculine/

In other words what a culture thinks is feminine or masculine is arbitrary and can turn on a dime and reverse itself.

Another lesbian relationship?

Seriously, some of you people need to grow up. All this outrage over a homosexual relationship, and a kiss, is totally uncalled for. Are we in the dark ages?
How dares a story in a game represent developed characters of the same sex that hold affection toward each other! Even worse, how dares one person kiss the other in relief after finding out they are not dead? Unbelievable I say! Gather the mob, prepare the dunking stool! (Yes, that was sarcasm if it didn’t register).

Also, a kiss = sex? Really? I am sorry but that is totally out of line. The kiss scene in question had no sexual innuendos whatsoever. No fondling, no tongue play, no nothing. It was a genuine kiss of relief. Anyone saying it was sexual in any way clearly has no idea of what a “sexual” kiss looks like.

If a kiss bothers you so much, please, by all means, stop watching television, reading books, browsing the internet, playing games, and even going out of your room. That way you are safe from that blasphemous act.

One more thing, what’s with all the Kasmeer whitewash? Why are some of you people trying to force your own views of how she should act based on whats a stereotype and what is not? We are all different, and some people do infact act like her. I know a person in real life who is extremely similar to her. There are many ways of being “strong”. To me, she comes across as a brave character that is trying her best to be the most she can be, while remaining faithful to who she is – and that is a truly admirable trait, one that most people in real life lack. By all means, debate her character on these boards, that’s what they are for – but trying to force your own views down everyone’s throats of how “females should act” or how “she should be” is simply bigotry on your parts. Be above the pettiness.

The simple fact that mods have not locked this hatefilled charade of homophobia is disturbing to say the least.

Semi-expansions via gemstore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Akari Storm.6809

Don’t know how I feel about gem store content. I think from a players standpoint, buying content with in game gold via gem/gold conversion would be way to keep playing the game free, time spent earning gold not withstanding.

However, I think this would take a lot of money out of the pockets of Anet releasing content via real expansions that they can just charge for.

Earning items through the gem store version of content is a nice idea, but essentially they would probably make more with the current set up.

Added, we already have content coming in that is free. Would I want to change that? No. Permanent or no, it’s still content.

So, the simple approach in my mind is to do what they have been doing with the free stuff and release an actual expansion with added lands/armors/dungeons via a boxed version.

Smaller paid for content (that needed to be bought with real cash) always made me feel like I was being nickeled and dimed in other games. Every new dungeon is gonna cost, every new class is gonna cost, every new land is gonna cost. Throw it in large installments I say and get it over with.

Thank you for Kas and Jory ANet!

Now, before I start, I just want to state that this is NOT a thread intended for remarks that are against the inclusion of homosexual relationships in Guild Wars 2, there are enough threads already in existence for that, here are some links if you want to express that kind of opinion:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/Another-lesbian-relationship

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/lwd/More-NPC-s-having-heterosexual-relationships

This is a thread simply thanking ANet for including a relationship like Kasmeer and Marjory’s, so here goes…

Let me begin by saying that I am a gay man and I am not against any sort of heterosexual relationships in this or any other game, but through the years I have certainly gotten used to pretty much every single relationship in a game to be heterosexual, that’s just kind of the way it is. Gays are a minority and so why cater to us? That’s just a reality of life, and I have learned to accept it over time.

I have been playing Guild Wars 2 since launch and yeah there was the whole Caithe and Faolain but that never was anything major, just more like a couple of lines of dialogue. But with Kasmeer and Marjory, well, that was such a breath of fresh air. I remember some of the first dialogues between Kas and Jory and I thought to myself, “Could it be? Are they in love???” And when it all culminated with the kiss on Scarlets Breachmaker, I’ll admit, it brought a tear to my eye, it was quite beautiful.

So this thread, ANet, is to thank you for including this kind of story within your game, and not just as a couple of lines of dialogue, but as a main story. It really means a lot to me, and probably many other gay gamers out there that play games with nothing but heterosexual relationships. Once again, not that I, or any other gay gamers out there have anything against heterosexual relationships in games, but we just aren’t really used to seeing such a prominent gay relationship at the forefront of the story, it’s refreshing, and for once I don’t feel like I’ve been forgotten or brushed under the rug.

So often in life, I feel like people tolerate me, but don’t really want to see me do anything gay, like kiss my boyfriend, or hold hands with him, or things like that, and to see Kas and Jory do things like that and NO ONE bats an eye, NO ONE thinks twice, NO ONE questions who they. It’s quite beautiful. I sometimes wish that this world was a little more like Tyria, where love is love and people are who they are and no one judges them for loving another person.

Well done ANet, keep up the good work!

Possibility of a new playable race?

in Living World

CaptainVanguard.4925

The biggest problems with the Tengu is that the Tengu are basically “Parrot Charr” aka: Their racial traits and personality types are almost exactly the same, they are just bird versions of Charr with less technology and more Samurai stuff, but otherwise, their actual personality types are exactly the same.

The Largos are more likely to be added as a playable race primarily for 3 reasons:

1. Actual humanoid bodies with unique animations for male and female on land.
2. Easier to make into a playable species modeling wise and timing wise since most of the real challenge would be for their wings and how to implement them in game mechanics.
3. Lore Wise, the Largos have a fresher outlook on their back story, they add a mystery that the other five races lack, they are a race of underwater “Predator” inspired fellows that have a fondness of hunting, assassination and secrecy, which makes them the “Dark Hero” trope we don’t currently have among the 5 races of Tyria.
4. Adding Largos would also be the perfect way to refine Underwater Combat giving a heavily underwater centric expansion to help give Underwater Combat more value in the game.
5. The Tengu at present are more xenophobic than ever, its actually more likely they may end up becoming antagonists than allies, at least until they are subdued.
6. The Tengu don’t really have any interesting lore going for them, since they were added mostly as a Cantha thing which means the real strength of their lore actually came from the Canthan Empire fondly trying to obliterate them.
7. Bird People Vs Elf-Like Sea Assassins, come on?

On a final note, I don’t think the Tengu are a bad race, but they need to be more interesting, presently, they are just bird people, with very minimalistic lore, even in Gw1 they were never particularly “deep” or engaging, so if they do become playable, they need a major lore overhaul to make them more interesting and also to give them some diversity from the Charr which presently they are too similar to.

Sylvari's Corruption Theory *spoilers*

in Lore

Posted by: Lutinz.6915

Lutinz.6915

There is a lot of details here we don’t know enough. The Dream, and the Sylvari’s connection to it, is still very much a mystery. We don’t even know for certain if the Sylvari are connected directly to the dream or its through their connection to the Pale Tree that they can access the dream. Perhaps Malyck did was once connected to the tree and his tree was killed, severing his connection.

I think that the Sylvari’s ‘immunity’ to corruption is either due to their connection to the Dream or simply their physical biology. Modremoth is likely effecting the dream and he can corrupt plant life so I suspect that immunity won’t count for much against him.

Personally I think it’s far more likely that the Sylvari are the product of the Druids, perhaps as a why to ‘arm’ nature and the Dream against the reawakening of Modremoth. It would explain why the Sylvari are humanoid, their location and why a sylvari PC has the ability to summon a Druid Spirit as a elite racial skill.

To cut your theory off, secondary corruption does not kill an individual. When a charr gets corrupted by let’s say Jormag, he can still be corrupted by Kralkatorrik and followed by perhaps Zhaitan. This is shown in the Crucible of Eternity dungeon. Sylvari die before they get (fully?) corrupted. That’s a difference with other races.

Also, on another note, I’m not 100% sure of this but I believe that the Nightmare exists within the Dream. I therefore believe it to be plausible to be corrupted by the Nightmare, you also have to experience the Dream.

Blame the posters and players who drove the loot into the spotlight. It wasn’t about loot until the population in general decided to make it about that. Well, that and how awesome quaggans are.

The emphasis on loot came with ascended which I still view as the worst thing to have happened to this game. Sure, there were always proponents of that kind of progression but they were by no means in the majority.

But yeah, given how expensive and time consuming it is to fully deck out a character today the gold obsession is albeit unfortunate completely understandable. They bred this mentality.

Anyone who makes the game about loot is probably not going to have a good time. The shame is so many people think loot is the game.

The game is freaking horizontal progression. If you want something cosmetic, you have two choices. Pay real cash, or grind your brains out for.. you guessed it, loot to sell or somehow process into gold.

Gold is the end game in Guild Wars 2. The rest of the content you burn through so fast that it gets old extremely quick.

I bet a lot of people would disagree with this. The end game for me in any game is to have fun. That specifically means NOT farming. I’ll get what I get when I get it. I don’t have to have everything and I certainly don’t have to have everything now.

I’m quite content to have fun with the guild, do what I’m doing, and eventually have enough gold for something I need.

It’s a mentality that makes gold the end game of this game, for certain types of players. Not everyone feels this way.

Have you seen the Dolyak graveyard, Arwen? Did you listen to the lovely music in Plains of Ashford? Did you get a sense of pride when you completed that ‘impossible’ jumping puzzle? How about those three different breeds of moas that hang out together in Metrica. Have you taken the time to read some of the plaques and memorials hidden in quiet little corners and felt saddened by the story they told. Have you stopped at some breathtaking vista and imagined the scent of the forest far below drifting up to you. There is so much more to this game than earning money.

I did the LS event on day 1. My first attempt it was bugged, but they patched it later to make it playable the same day and I got it..

Because of the way the content is live unless they had a test server with an NDA for new content where a large amount of players could test it without releasing spoilers there’s no way they could accurately test everything with the amount of players doing different things all at the same time.

Plus people would still leak spoilers most likely because they feel entitled to, so..

Personally I think they do pretty well with the LS patches and fixing the stuff that launches broken. So the knights didn’t drop loot for a day, who cares? You still were able to do the entire event and get the achievements/chest reward.

If anyone really believes that what Anet are releasing is untested then either you also believe they have the most skilled programmers the world has ever seen (and as a result these are the only bugs that ever occur). or you have never seen genuinely untested content.

The type of bugs that make it into the game are extremely minor and usually hard to trigger compared to what you’d expect in a genuine Alpha test.

Funny…I was just thinking this morning how maybe Scarlet had ‘planned all this to happen’ and actually used the ley lines to take control of a dragon’s body. We know it’s possible, seeing how Snaff did it.

It would be the worst thing that could possibly happen to the story of course. Just imagine an elder dragon with Scarlet’s personality and voice.

What a depressing view of game the OP has. The LS is great, new content every 2 weeks and recently its been some of the best stuff yet. Sure the writing has been poor but I’m sure that will improve. The Gemstore is there to support the game and I have no issues with the way they are trying to keep this game going.

Not only that you can still exchange gold for gems. So even if you are broke you can still get whatever you want IF you put the time and effort into the game.
