Revitalize the Game World, Resetting Hearts.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Did you know that the game originally didn’t HAVE Hearts?

But players didn’t know where to go to find the events. So ANet put things to do to pass the time in areas were events tend to pop up. These are the Hearts. They are primarily there to slow your progress in an area down long enough for you to see an event occur. They put it towards map completion and gave rewards to it so that players would have incentive to slow down when they ran into a heart.

And no to a reset that I can’t control. The right side of the screen is already cluttered with personal story and daily/monthly achievement and living story stuff and world event stuff. I don’t need to be forced to have heart information there when I’ve already done it.

We *DO* want to know what's in development.

According to what’s on the forums, ANet’s company communication policy is pretty much “don’t tell them what’s in development until we’re sure its going to happen.”

I feel like this has a very fundamental flaw, which I’d like to explore and ask for other opinions on. Basically, the policy presupposes that the playerbase would be more disappointed to know that something has left the development cycle, than they would be excited to learn that something is currently in the cycle.

But this is clearly false. When we hear about the devs doing something and stopping, we are maybe personally disappointed for a short while, but still come away reassured that ANet has looked into the problem thoroughly and there was a legitimate reason for whatever decision was made.

When we hear nothing, all we can do is assume the worst, that ANet is ignoring or oblivious to critical problems.

Not talking about development actually reduces our confidence in ArenaNet as knowledgeable observers of the game’s state.

In addition, by reducing player confidence the Arenanet developers end up with long-term negative images amongst the playerbase. The scorn we have for a developer who flat out doesn’t know what they’re doing, is alot higher than what we have for one who simply makes a decision we don’t agree with. I think the currrent state of the forums and reddit are pretty clear indicators that this non-communicative policy is harmful to both players and Devs.

One of the arguments against discussion of ongoing development is that players will feel betrayed if you say that something is going to happen, but then it does not. Please do not insult our intelligence. If you tell us that things are up in the air or not decided yet, a veritable legion of nit-pickers will correct anyone who dares ignore that statement.

Far more serious is the sense of betrayal that happens when things are discussed late in development, when you’re already sure they’ll be happening. Often times it feels that we need to go to drastic measures to be heard in time, and most times we are not. I commend arenanet for taking quick action on the commander tag issue, but would point them towards things like the mesmer torment buff. When you talk about things that are already set to happen, it gives us the sense that you only want to look like there’s discussion going on. What’s the point of telling us these things before patch day, if we’re not going to be given the time to give our reflections?

I’ve seen Colin’s suggestion that devs begin posting broad outlines of development goals, and I think that it’s a good one. However, please understand that in order to restore player confidence, we’re going to need to see more than what the devs are asking themselves. Those are the same questions we’re asking every day. Instead, just be frank with us. We can take it. If you’re thinking “kitten healing signet is OP” put that on the forum, not “We want to address sustain imbalances”. Saying that you’re thinking about something or “it’s on the table” means nothing. What you’re doing on the table means everything, and we’d take a lot more than a little disappointment for a peek up there.

Hey everyone,

I want to clarify a couple of points for you that I feel are important.

1. ArenaNet GMs very rarely send unsolicited whispers.

2. ArenaNet Senior GMs all have character names akin to GM Madi Walker and have the ArenaNet Guild Tag.

3. All ArenaNet GMs have GM ‘Hopefully Cool Alias’.#### for a display name.

4. GM whisper text is golden; not purple.

5. Impersonating a employee or agent of ArenaNet will result in an immediate suspension or termination of your account.

Hope this helps you identify real GMs versus the imposters out there.

Hunt safe.

Stolos: you’re spot on. This encounter was an homage to the courtroom cross-examinations from Ace Attorney. You all probably know pretty well that people at ArenaNet are gamers, too, and this occasionally bleeds into the content we create. For example, the Molten Facility end boss encounter took inspiration from Dark Souls. There are small nods/references sprinkled across the game.

2nd birthday experience scroll

Zaxares.5419

Oh boy, they don’t stack? >.< That definitely needs to be addressed.

And since they’re account bound anyway, ANet, can’t you just make them give you +20 levels instead of raising you to level 20? Seriously, anybody who’s been around for 2 years (or even 1 year) is more than likely already going to be higher level than that. And if they haven’t created new characters by this point, I doubt a new scroll is going to tip them over the line.

So.. do people even have characters under level 20 when they have 2 year old characters on their account? Seems to me like they should have been level 25, or level 30 scrolls, or something, but more level 20 scrolls? I have 13, I have a character of every single class, actually I have a duplicate of 1 class because I didn’t like Charr Warrior but that character was an ascended crafter so I couldn’t bring myself to delete it.

But a real problem is… this years scrolls do not stack with last year’s scrolls, so if I wanted to save them on the off chance.. it’s another bank slot. can’t we at least have them stack?

Well this thread is embarrasing. As soon as anet delivers slightly more complex fights people claim its too hard. Its really not hard. I honestly dont know what to think. I thought games were supposed to be challenging.

I want more than 10 times the difficulty of this fight for future stuff. But its a step in the right direction. Maybe you will learn how to play the game if anet continues to increase the difficulty. I can only hope. :P

To the OP: You certainly feel ‘Entitled’ don’t you.

If you actually look at the forum, A.Net is trying to engage again but with rants like yours, I see them pulling away because it is a ‘darned if you do, darned if you don’t’ mentality.

If this was a personal gift, given from person to person, I would agree with you.

It’s not. It’s handed out by an automated script that cares nothing about you or your character. Telling the devs “this item would be a lot more awesome if you adjust this one field in the datafile” is hardly being ungrateful.

Now, give us Anise's armor.

in Living World

Silberfisch.3046

I’ll sign that, but only if it comes as an armor skin set and not an outfit. I would prefer to only use parts of it.

And I would like a Countess Anise minipet while we are at it. Having someone who refers to the player character as “pet” as a mini pet sounds oddly fitting.

If you happen to stumble across any typos,
you may keep them to rear new and interesting variants in your basement.

Now, give us Anise's armor.

Caro.2730

So… Since Countess Anise has a bigger role now and hopefully it will stay that way, can we have her armor please? It’s much, much prettier than all the armor and outfits in the gemstore. -.- I’d prefer it as light armor though, I don’t want brute warriors to dress in such piece of art, they don’t deserve it.

You know what would avoid suspicion? An appropriate attire for the event. I mean, who would trust someone that looks like this (1st picture)? Or worse: like that (2nd picture; might as well have cursed a child to eternal sleep)… I wish we had more “town clothes”-esque outfits like the nobles are wearing. Considering my human mesmer is a noble too. No wonder they don’t trust me.

Anyway, what did you wear to the party?

Please take the time to read this post ive thought an enormous amount about this, please don’t remove it either im not trying to be cynical, just realistic to the playerbase who commits to this game for specific reasons.

After all of gamescon and recent interviews, what we’ve pretty much obtained from the devs is “if you like wvw, spvp, fractals/dungeons, then too bad because we’re working too much on the living story to do any content/features for that.”

What we learned from gamescon interviews.
- No new dungeons planned for a while, too much effort, fractals easier. Fractals have only ever had 1 update which shows how little committment they had. They specifically said “there are so many parts of the game to commit to thats its hard to do this as well”.
- WvW updates comes extremely infrequently as well. And when they do, we get what happened with this feature pack. A handful of changes that take a week.
- sPvP has taken 2 years to develop to a state thats almost esport-ish. We still have like 3 new maps and 1 gamemode after 2 years. This is not even remotely close to enough development to support an esports type of scene.

All of these things were big things at launch, implemented in the game. Bigger than the LS that didn’t exist then. For some reason this has changed. Anet still has their eye set on the living story.

At least with the first living stoyr we saw a diveristy in content, which was yes a complaint which is why they separate living story from feature patch now. But there are so many things that are considered content that don’t fit in the living story or features patches. Let me give a list

Fractals
WvW maps
sPvP maps/modes
New dungeons or revamped dungeons
Guild missions(also completely abadoned)

At first I had some hope that “hey well the devs technically can find a place to fit this in during the living story, they just need to give a lore reason behidn it so it fits in the story.” Thats exactly what they did in the first season. Except this tiem around they show no interest in doing anything but open world content and living story instances. They sound like they actually can’t do more than that because its too much.

Anyway im giving up on this game because Anet really has pushed me and many other parts of the community away for only one part of the game. Interviews gave this away and if you all want to be honest with yourself, then you should do the same.

I don’t hate the living story by any means, but if its all Anet can do, then they’ve failed. If they have no other big projects in the background then they will dissappoint the community even more because what they are doing right now is not working at all.

Make All Dungeons Open World

This is the GW2 playerbase we’re talking about:

If they can zerg it, they will.

Go try to do some actual, engaging PvP in EotM and see how well that works out for you. Huge PvP map, lots to do, many possibilities for large tactical fights. What happens there? Karma train. Alt leveling express. Dragonite grind.

If they put a string of bosses in open world that give any kind of decent reward, the zerg will come and negate any/all difficulty that the boss may have. We have world bosses, as well as various champs/vets scattered throughout the maps. Your plan would just turn dungeons into more of the same.

Not trying to come off as rude, I just really can’t see how this would improve anything. We want new dungeons because we want more challenging instanced group content — A safe-haven from the zergs, if you will.

What are devs working on ?

What are we working on right now? Feature Pack 2 (in ~two more weeks), Season 2 of the Living World (coming back this fall), the WvW Fall Tournament, and the World Tournament Series PvP global tournament are just some of the things we are currently working on that we can tell you about right now.

After the end of the tournaments, the game will be the same since it was released!
Players really want:

  • New Dungeons/Fractals
  • New Dungeon/Fractal Rewards
  • PvP modes/maps
  • Guild Halls (GvG)
  • New Legendaries
  • New Weapon and Armor skins (No RNG)
  • Precursor Crafting

Please, stop tournaments and living story, We want more permanent content!
We’ve spent years asking and you don’t listen us!
